Fallout TV Show (Spoilers) Ending Moment w/ Hank MacLean

I've seen a lot of people analyzing this moment in the show. And a lot of people are straight up cherry picking their leading quote.

"Lucy, I loved your mother. But she stopped being your mother when she left home."

^ That's the quote I keep seeing. But there's a whole second part to what he says. And it's really fucking important.

"And(or when) took you into danger."

This is fucking key. If you aren't a parent, you literally cannot understand this. I'm not gatekeeping here, you really cannot understand it. I'm not talking about 'if you haven't given birth to' blah blah blah. I mean, if you are not a parent.

Look, I love my husband. He's the father of my kids. We've been together over twenty years. But all bets are off if he puts our kids in danger. There is no loyalty then. Parental instincts kick in. The kids safety trumps everything else.

Now, before I go any further. Let me say 100% that I firmly believe that Hank nuked Shady Sands because he found out about Rose and Lee.

But... he, a Vault dweller... left the vault to track not her down but his kids down. He had no intention on ever bringing Rose back. Because she was literally a stranger to him at that point.

And let's be real here - she did take her kids into very real danger. Yeah, they managed to make Shady Sands but it was still fucking dangerous as hell up there. I'm not saying their marriage was perfect but what I am saying is that it was dangerous. Real, lethal, danger. Not the 'oh, something bad could happen'. No... they were very lucky that they found Shady Sands and didn't fucking die in the process.

But! Make no mistake - the moment Rose took her kids out of that vault - she was dead to Hank. Because this woman took his kids into the absolute worst place his mind could think of. A literal hell in his mind. And he was going to get his kids back.

Shady Sands? That was Hank loosing his temper. An act that was totally separate from Rose taking his kids. Because they had nothing to do with his kids and her. But... but... Lee had everything to do with Rose. And why she didn't come back on her own in his mind. And who knows, maybe that was why she left in the first place? Though, it could easily be argued that Hank was abusive - emotionally distant - insane. He had to have been the Overseer at that point to be able to pull something like that off. We can speculate all day long.

But! It's important to remember that other part of what he says. Because that's intrinsically tied to his character.

Small reminder that you should really download your favorite fics off of AO3. We are seeing mass censorships well as the chance that anything, such as another severe DDoS attack can shut down the site making works unaccessible and possibly lost for good.

You think your stuff is safe until it's suddenly not, and then often times it's too late.

This post starts with AO3, (because it seems to be the common denominator across all users on this website /joking) but I recommend extending preservation efforts to anything online if you can manage to download it.

I'm not saying panic and start buying tons of storage devices to hold immense amounts of stuff. A cheap usb can hold plenty of things. You don't have to stop using services still available if it's more convenient to read books on your phone than to fill your backpack with 7 of them.

But you should still get (either buying or creating) physical versions because nothing is guarantee that it will remain forever. From shows being pulled from streaming services, to banned books, to losing access to digital copies of media because the service doesn't support it anymore, the account is lost, or the company goes under. This goes for messaging platforms as well. Your role-plays with your friends on discord can be lost forever, your photos can too.

This doesn't even include media most vulnerable to censorship and how quickly it can be removed, and quietly.

You think it will not happen to you, it will. Do not wait for unforeseen circumstances. Go back up and preserve what you can, your future self will be happy that you did.

Magic is a fickle thing, so when the things go down the hill for the Batfamily, and they accidentally (temporarily) regain a copy of little Jason in his Robin era, they both delighted and confused.

Naturally, no one really minds getting Jaybin for a day - Bruce, Alfred, Dick and Barbara all circle around the lost child, talking, offering anything and everything, hugging and kissing his freckled cheeks. Those family members who didn't know him before are no less enamoured. He is polite, nothing like a brash boy they always imagined him to be. He listens to Tim curiously, legs tucked under his chin, happily calls Cass and Steph his big sisters, helps Damian with taking care of animals, and endlessly giggles at Duke's jokes.

Everything is so... nice. What they are worried about, is their Jason's reaction. For the most of it, they expect him to be mad. Offended. Maybe frustrated.

When Jason stumbles inside the Batcave, freezing on the doorstep at the sight of himself, much younger and bubblier, everyone is silent. Dick coughs awkwardly, almost imagining what could happen, and tries to soften a blow:

"Little Wing--"

But there is no need for that. Not really.

Because their Jason stares at little Robin with delight. In awe, even. His whole face softens, and he slowly steps closer, reaching out for a kid.

"Hey, kiddo."

The sheer vulnerability in his voice, confuses others even more.

Jason stares at a kid as if he sees something so dear and lost, and it is strangely baffling. His smiles grow wider when the Second Robin shyly waves at him.

"Come here," Jason encourages him. Once the kid climbs in his arms, he whispers in the crown of his head: "Welcome home, little hero."

And suddenly, it all makes sense.

Because, of course, Jason loves and loved this child.

After all, it is the same one, who he spent protecting from the evil tongues of his own family for years.
