As promised, here's the art post for my second @deancas-stabfest collab 😍 @lazarus-rose's prompt had me immediately hooked since it was music to my horror loving heart (with a spin on murder husbands I hadn't even considered yet) and takes the name "Stabfest" beautifully literal:

Summary: Everyone has their hobbies—Dean’s just happens to involve a lot more blood and screaming than most people’s. And sure, maybe murder isn’t the nicest way to blow off steam, but Dean’s always thought that being nice is overrated anyway. His latest victim, a pretty guy with startling blue eyes, should be nothing special, just another nameless body on Dean’s list. But then, after Dean kills and buries him, he turns back up at Dean’s house again the next day. What’s a guy to do when they’ve accidentally gotten an immortal witch convinced that they’ve got some kind of profound bond?

something about the fairies taunting jack with rose petals no less. something about the toymaker covering the unit hq in rose petals while he gets shot at. you’ll never get away from the sound of the woman that loves you blessed you with the curse of eternal life

tell me that doesn’t sound remarkably similar to the way fifteen describes the goblins to ruby. the goblins are part of the toymaker’s “legions” — ancient and mysterious entities from the dawn of time, slipping in through the cracks in reality, stimulated by human belief and superstition. goblins abduct little children for their own ends and so do the “fairies”. you don’t know where the chicken or the egg is, where history ends and mythology begins: did the folklore emerge from sightings of the real creatures, or did the creatures coalesce like an egregore because of the proliferation of the folklore about them, a manifestation of humanity’s deepest fears come alive ever since the toymaker changed the rules of the game?

but was it the toymaker? could this all be a chain reaction, kickstarted billions of years ago (or only nineteen, depending on how you look at it) when one headstrong young woman looked into the time vortex and turned herself into a literal deus ex machina, defying all laws of reality, raising the dead and disintegrating the death-bringers? could that have been the moment (lol.) when it all began to unravel?

i haven’t seen classic who. what do i know. but maybe it wasn’t the line of salt at the edge of the universe. maybe it was one girl, seeing everything that ever was, everything that will ever happen, anything that ever could be. the fairies haven’t stopped pursuing jack ever since: he’s the living evidence of her miracle. they slaughter his entire train carriage but they don’t touch a hair on his head. other children are the fairies’ chosen ones, yes, but jack is the chosen one of their goddess. the bad wolf

i wonder who that jonathan groff character in the upcoming series is.

i feel like it’s so integral to have at least one “at home” episode for every companion. so much character to be revealed in the premise of aliens interfering with everyday life once they are back on earth

anyways, i'm still really annoyed that my master post about how badly race was handled in series 3 is gone, so i'm going to remind you all again. martha jones. black medical student who definitely would have been dealing with medical racism as well as general microaggressions. her family. the biggest in the rtd era and the most underutilised. making francine the angry black woman with little to no build up, making her antagonistic to the point of violence with barely any plot. no mention of the impact a father who ran off with a younger white woman would have.

shakespearean london. 1599. two years after the queen tried to expell black people from the town and ship them off as chattel, making martha's concern worryingly accurate. having the doctor dismiss these concerns making him sound like an idiot. shakespeare's fetishisation of martha. the doctor's unnecessarily aggresive, dismissive and simultaneously suggestive attitude with her. manhattan, 1930. excused away having to deal with the inevitable racism by throwing in a line by a black actor to show the writers didn't feel like dealing with it, despite race relation getting worse during the depression. still keeping at the needlessly suggestive scenes and lines aimed at martha - it is not funny or endearing for the doctor to pick up her knickers. i admit his "busy doing stuff" line with francine WAS funny, but overall, i'm not impressed with the borderline inappropriate innuendos levied at martha her season. right down to john smith asking martha what she 'does' for the doctor. and speaking of 1913. the only two parter to actively treat racism as if it exists...until it decides to reward joan (and john for the matter) with narrative sympathy. then we get 1969, another racially unstable era, especially as it's london. any black brit who was around in that era will tell you. and then the master and his jibes about ticking boxes off in demographics which is definitely supposed to be a jab at actual critique of the show but just makes him seem prejudiced also. which isn't exactly helped by him enslaving the jones', maid outfits and all.

not to mention subverting the first female black companion in the tv show's onscreen history into the doctor's. the first and only time they've done this thank god. to sideline her in her own story and constantly and negatively comparing her to the white predecessor was such a huge and avoidable error. not to mention completely forgetting her in 'the doctor's daughter,' seperating her from everyone for the majority of the s4 finale and pairing her off with the only other black male in the cast.
