I don’t know much about being diagnosed as a psychopath, so I’m not gonna involve that part of Khoas character, since I don’t wanna make assumptions about it.

It’s said that Khoa doesn’t feel empathy or fear though, which is interesting.

I’ve always imagined Khoa is someone who shows his affection through physical items, like an expensive watch or a personally tailored suit. Maybe even a brand-new car, or even a whole new apartment in the most expensive part of town.

I can’t see him as someone who verbalizes his love very much, like he wouldn’t say I love you multiple times a way. Instead, he would give you a gift, or squeeze you extra tight when you hug or kiss you extra longingly.

If you are a vigilante like him, he would make sure you had the best gear as well, to keep you safe. He would absolutely love to spar with you too, and its one of the easiest and fastest ways to get him riled up.

Outside of sparring, he loves to watch you wear his clothes or the stuff he’s bought for you. He always gets this curled smile on his lips as he saunters towards you, grabbing your hips or crawling up the bed and lying beside you.

His hands wander when you guys are together, it doesn’t even have to be anything sensual. Khoa just likes to touch you and be in contact with you at all times.

Khoa has a bit of an ego, so you have to stroke it sometimes. He can’t help but puff up a bit and chuckle when you call him handsome or squeeze his muscles and whistle about how he seems buffer than normal. Even if its just jokes, he likes it.

If you aren’t a vigilante, expect to be taught how you protect yourself. That’s a necessity to date him, if he truly cares about you, he is gonna train you. Khoa is not a kind teacher, but he always patches you up afterwards and will give you all the kisses and gifts you could want.

He doesn’t praise your work if it isn’t good though, he had very rough trainers himself, so he isn’t gonna compliment shabby work. This is when you’d figure out how seeing you being strong and lethal gets him going, if you hadn’t figured it out before.

You have to be okay with murder, since that’s one of the reasons he does what he does. Even better if you have the same morals at him, expect him to purr flirty comments into the comms when he sees you break a neck or take someone out.

You are gonna meet Batman at least a few times, those two are connected in one way or another. You don’t have to worry about being jealous though, with Batman or anyone else, Khoa is loyal to a T when you guys become official, and he expects the same from you.

It is kinda fun to make him a little jealous sometimes, if glares could kill the person flirting with you would go up in flames and cease to exist. Khoa always make sure you know who your partner is, one way or another.

Arguments can be pretty tense with him, especially if neither of you like to apologize. I can’t see him being super emotional and mushy, so after an argument you two would both go by yourself to cool off.

If he is in the wrong, he would come back later with flowers or something you like, would kiss you softly and hold you and quietly say he’s sorry. If you are the one in the wrong, you can do the same and he would forgive you.

If you guys get married, you know damn well your wedding is gonna be expensive. Even if you want something lowkey, your wedding is gonna cost enough that it leaves you feeling faint. The rings probably cost more money then you have ever seen, but seeing Khoa puff up like a proud peacock seeing you wear it, makes you feel like cautious about it.

My problem is that the HarveyxBrucexKhoa dynamic that I've really created in my head is not actually the three of them but rather Bruharvey and a Khoa who is a jealous and petty mf.

It's 100% Harvey reentering bruce's life in a much more permanent way and Knoa immediately being like 'who tf is this?? Bruce, you can do so much better. also. you dont get to leave this friendship for some stupid romance.' and thus he needs to prove that 1) there are people out there (khoa) who can be much better romantic and sexual partners than just some guy and 2) Khoa is actually the only life partner you can have. it's not up for discussion.

So you have

Harvey, who, after lots of therapy and a few decades of ups and downs with bruce, is confident that bruce will never leave him. And he's just giving khoa the side eye cuz this random guy that Bruce met in europe years ago is continuously and rudely interrupting their dramatic, bittersweet and romantic reunion that they've been building up to for DECADES

Khoa, who refuses to admit that he wants a qpr with bruce and is in a one-sided pissing contest with harvey

and bruce, who is happy to have both Harvey and Khoa back in his life but is a little weirded out because while yes, he and khoa did have a good fuck every once in a while, Khoa is getting a bit intense and Bruce is like 99.99% sure that their relationship wasn't like that but now that .01% of doubt is hitting him in the face real hard

I fully believe that Ghostmaker (Minhkhoa "Khoa" Khan) knows that Bruce has kids, but doesn't know many details beyond that. Bruce was going to correct him but-

Khoa: Bruce, you have like 20 kids! How am I supposed to know everything about them! Only 2 of them are yours biologically!

Bruce: You've been hanging around Gotham for months now you should- wait, you said two of them are mine biologically?

Khoa: Yes... why is it three?

Bruce: Uh... it's not three. Wich two do you think it is?

khoa & tim fake uncle postfic

because i’m thinking about tim’s fake uncle again and because i’m also thinking about ghostbat: au (loosely inspired by this) set during tim’s early robin era where tim does a version of the Fake Uncle thing, which coincides with minhkhoa khan sneaking into town to spy on bruce.

the thing is, khoa has been off the grid for a while and just learned about jason--both that bruce got another kid, and that said kid had a fatal run-in with the joker. bruce had told khoa to stay out of gotham years ago, but khoa isn’t about to let that stop him once he catches up on the news and pieces together bruce’s grief spiral that only recent calmed down with the appearance of a new robin. a new robin who is, conveniently, posting a veiled job offer for an? uncle?? on the internet, and doing it entirely on his own.

so khoa fashions himself a fake struggling-but-not-too-struggling actor identity and lands himself the position of tim drake's uncle. it’s a perfect way to peek at bruce’s life while flying under the radar, because this tim kid is very eager to keep his fake uncle as separate from bruce as possible. khoa expects to be in and out of this job in a month, maybe two, as soon as he’s sure bruce is stable and not going to crumble because bruce cares so much and khoa knows it’ll be his undoing one day and—anyway. it’s a temporary gig. the kid’ll have to come up with a cover story when khoa inevitably disappears, but that’s not khoa’s problem. and tim probably shouldn’t be making up fake relatives anyway, so khoa will be teaching him a valuable lesson. (the lesson: always make sure you have collateral on someone before trusting them. you’re welcome for the parenting help, bruce!)

except. it’s not so easy to leave.

after just two weeks khoa starts realizing that:

tim is bonkers

like, off the wall bonkers

and brilliant

bad combo, khoa knows from experience

tim desperately cares about bruce and dick and alfred

but does not see himself as part of the family (hence the fake uncle thing)

khoa also realizes that tim keeps secretly patching himself up at home (because he’s downplaying any injuries after patrols) and eventually khoa is like. “okay. i don’t care what happened*, but you do have to stitch that up properly. my fake self can’t be in trouble for child endangerment.” and he patches up a surprised and wary tim. this becomes a routine.

*(khoa knows what happened, he was stalking batman on patrol that night. like most nights.)

ANYWAY. basically what i’m saying is: identity shenanigans where bruce’s ex is lurking around gotham pretending to be tim’s uncle and tim doesn’t know about the ex thing and bruce doesn’t know about the uncle being fake thing and everyone is keeping secrets from each other. and khoa goes from “this is a convenient way to spy on bruce” to “if anything happens to this unhinged baby robin i will kill everyone in this room and then myself” and ends up co-parenting tim without bruce realizing.

also in between having concerning realizations about tim’s self-preservation skills and spying on bruce, khoa finds time to have fun with it. like imagine a parent-teacher conference at tim’s school. the school calls bruce to schedule because his contact info is still on file from when tim was staying with him. but obviously khoa catches wind of this and decides to also turn up, in full uncle disguise, and spends the whole time fucking with bruce and having a blast.

like bruce was kind of checked out last year when the conferences happened and now he’s starting to claw out of his grief enough to be present and engaged. especially now that tim is staying with his “uncle” bruce is like wait. wait. and is trying to make more of an effort, so he shows up to the conference. and then at the conference khoa is just lounging in his chair like, “tim fell asleep in class? good for him, i’ve been telling him to get more sleep” and bruce is trying to be Even Better Dad to compensate while his eye is just constantly twitching.

teacher: i won't sugar coat it, tim is very nearly failing literature

khoa: ah. a ridiculous subject anyway.

teacher: i notice tim is very... isolated. he doesn't seem to engage much with his peers, even when they try to initiate conversations with him

khoa: well children are idiots, i don't blame him

teacher: tim got in a fight—

khoa: did he win?

khoa: oh tim’s getting an A in science? we should celebrate. i’ll take him to get ice cream for dinner. we usually do that anyway but this time he can have extra sprinkles

bruce: that’s not— [deep breath] in my experience tim has trouble remembering to eat a balanced diet when left to his own devices, which is important to his growth at this age.

khoa: yeah of course. that’s why sometimes we get frozen yogurt instead

bruce: tim is lactose intolerant

khoa: [pulls out a packet of lactaid] i know

anyway!! after a bunch of shenanigans and awkward actually-taking-care-of-tim moments, something big happens where bruce and tim are in deep trouble and khoa breaks cover to burst in and rescue both batman & robin and all secrets come out. tim is shocked that he didn’t figure out who khoa was (in tim’s defense, he’s had a Lot going on) and bruce is soooo mad he didn’t see through the disguise, but also bruce is. grateful. that khoa has been there for tim, especially when khoa finally gets to do a full “get your head out of your ass” rant about the various ways tim has been pretending to be way more okay than he is.

khoa: if you’re going to CARE about people so much the least you can do is! pay attention to them!! this kid is your problem, act like it!

bruce: sounds like he might be Our problem now

khoa: only because i don’t trust you to get the job done 😤

(ALSO because khoa is literally there to lurk and observe he notices the league slipping into gotham and they end up rescuing a resurrected jason early.)

anyway i just think the concept of khoa being tim’s deus ex machina adult is so fun. like tim is on some international mission with young justice and it seems like all hope is lost and then freaking ghost-maker swans in and takes out all the enemies and gives tim a whole rant about How Is Bruce Letting You Run Around Like This, Does He Know What You’re Getting Up To In Your Spare Time, Where Even Is He. the vibe is ghost-maker dropping a (carefully patched up) robin on wayne manor doorstep with a sticky note on tim’s forehead reading TAKE BETTER CARE OF YOUR THINGS.

It's Blacktober, so I'm gonna be brave and drop all the Black headcanons I currently have for DC

Putting it under a read more because I added a lot more notes than I originally thought I was going to.

Dick Grayson — Afro-Romani. Nicknamed Cricket because he was a super skinny kid with ADHD who chattered almost nonstop

Jason Todd — Afro-Filipino (3rd generation). Nicknames include Jay-Jay, JT, Jaypee (spelled exactly that way), PJ, and Peter Poppins (he brought an umbrella to a cookout once because the forecast said it was gonna rain, somebody made fun of him, the nickname stuck). Jason Peter Todd just sounds like a name that's simultaneously Black and Filipino idk. Black Millennial name + I swear so many Filipinos are named Jason, especially in the U.S. They named him Peter after St. Peter (he doesn't have to come up with a Confirmation saint and name himself like I had to...man, Jason would be just old enough to get the sacrament just to die the same year.)

Selina Kyle — Eartha Kitt is my live action Catwoman. I need not say more.

Harvey Dent — Black mama and white dad. Old folks who knew him exclusively called him Junior, never by name. Harvey Dent just sounds like an old Black man's name too, like I'm pretty sure a distant cousin on my dad's side is called Harvey. Also, I never see Black characters as mob bosses, so I'm gonna lay my grubby little hands on him. I actually wrote a whole essay on the social commentary that could be explored if Harvey was a lightskinned Black man, but I'm gonna keep that to myself for now.

Minhkhoa Khan — Mom is Black, Malay, and Filipino. Dad is Chinese, Vietnamese, and Thai. I don't have nicknames for him yet (I'd also have to find an excuse for characters to give him any </3)

Walk with me on this one. I'm imagining this haircut as curly on top with a fade rather than just straight hair with an undercut. I don't think he has 4 type hair; but if he did have 4b or 4c, he'd be the guy who'd laser focus on picking his hair so he can ignore you </3

For his mullet era, see Prince for reference. I think people only hate mullets because they're almost always seen with straight hair, and straight hair cannot emulate the sheer cunt that curls serve in every moment tbh.

Also, this just looks like a durag to me. Seems to be tied like one. Every time someone draws this head covering, it looks exactly like a durag. What does he need a durag for if not to keep moisture and protect his curl pattern?

He's also my personal win for the kingdom of Blasia.

Halo from the Young Justice cartoon — she's mixed Black to me. I think Qurac is meant to based on Iraq? So maybe she's Black and Iraqi. idk I just think Black Muslims should be seen more in media.

Everyone in the Superfamily — I read that one post years ago about how logically Kryptonians should be darkskinned if their powers come from absorbing yellow son energy (people without color reflect it instead) + someone else talking about Afro-Latino Superboy. I agree with all their points (don't ask me for either of these posts, it was three fandom lifetimes ago).

Zatanna Zatara — that one post on twitter fancasting Ayo Edebiri as Zatanna. I am walking together with that person. I see the vision. A win for #BlackGirlMagic. Give "Justice League Dark" new meaning (you can throw tomatoes for that one)

In a world where Bruce Wayne remained “dead” for another 5 years or so after, do you think Minhkhoa Khan (aka James Tynion IV’s Ghost-Maker) could have worked as an antagonist or villain for Dick Grayson and Damian Wayne’s Batman and Robin, if the character had been created back then?

Sure. Visually, Ghost Masker makes me think 'what if Rob Liefeld created Moon Knight?' ...but there's an interesting story there and I imagine it could have worked well integrated into Dick and Damian's ongoing tenure as the Dynamic Duo.

As far as I'm concerned, Dick's time as Batman following RIP was far too short. That was a great time in Batman comics and the rush back to the status quo was a shame.
