House of Lies and Sorrow by Emily Blackwood
268 pages, published July 6, 2022 - 🌟🌟🌟🌟 Now do not get me wrong this book was a fun ride and gave me just what I needed, however, I will admit it is one that after reading I quickly forgot major pieces (which is gonna cause trouble with the sequel coming out on September 26th of this year)

Prompt 241
Wing au? Wing Au. With perhaps a bit of a twist. Also a hint of eldritchness perhaps. For fun!
Ghosts have wings. Sure, they aren’t normally seen, not in the visible spectrum, but they do. Scanners pick them up, and sometimes a ghost might even reveal them, which was hypothesized to be some sort of animalistic intimidation attempt. (Something more than one Amity Parker rolled their eyes at)
Everyone had seen them at least once- the motorcycle-driving ghost’s mass of shadowy feathers, the green-haired girls matching shaggy ones, the rocker’s ones that looked like pages of music before bursting into flame. Even the box ghost’s had been spotted- feathers looking more like sheets of cardboard than anything else.
It wasn’t until the whole kidnapped to the ghost zone that anyone saw Phantom’s, but that was another tale unto itself really. Honestly the arrival of the GIW would have maybe been seen as positive before, but the fact that many of them had looked in the mirror or gone to the doctors only to find feathers beginning to sprout on their back soured it.
Especially as the GIW continues to prattle on and on about how all ecto-contaminated scum are less than human, less than bacteria. And well, what does that make them? Them, who have been to the realms of the dead and gods and back, touched by the swirling green energy in ways incomprehensible? Changed by that energy?
So the people silently brush hidden feathers together, quietly rebuff the white-wearing lunatics from the city as best they can, and hope to anything listening that they can stop anyone else from disappearing. That maybe they can find the few no one noticed had been taken before it’s too late, even if they have to tear down the entire government to do it.

Theta is an incredibly old Hag having been able to survive for a millennium, her true age unknown as she herself stopped counting. Thus amongst Hags, not only does she rank as a Grandmother but a very powerful one at that, her only misfortune having been the last of her coven, the group having cannibalized itself in a struggle for power.
Such old Hags exist but are a rarity, and in some isolated pockets of rural areas they are worshipped as deities of the natural cycle of decomposition and as the group for life. Though this practice is few and far between and generally discouraged in favour of the standard pantheon and generally labeled as a false or old god. Their domains consist of ancient forests older than civilizations, not unlike Silvanus, though where they differ is that the Fae have a propensity to grant wishes and desires, for a price of course, rather than keeping a distance for the sake of balance (Often times this involves body parts [ a la what Auntie Ethel does in BG3, where they would be granted sight or hearing through your body] or living beings).
Theta's reasoning for pursuing Blythe is nothing special - she was simply seeking out Elven women with a potential, ones that have not awakened or honed their magical skills as to be molded and influenced (She sees it as teaching a chick to fly).
Like other Hags, Theta believes in the obscenity of love; patron of obsession and possession. She encourages Elven mages to cannibalize their lovers - and is staunch in the belief that consuming another grants their power. Whether or not that belief is fact or fiction is dubious.

I'm curious about the changelings AU please!
It would be impolite for royal parents not to invite their fae neighbors when their children are born and named- and it would be impolite for the fae not to bring gifts.
The trouble is that fae gifts can be a double-edged sword, and when it comes to royal heirs, stability is often preferred over power.
Hence, the secret tradition of "changlings" comes about. An orphan baby is changed for the royal child during the party, and receives the gifts and curses, and then is switched back later and taught how to use their power. Changlings grow up to become mages, and mages grow to supply royals with new changlings.
All is well, for the royals, the mages, the fae, the people.
But then one day, the fae realize how they have been tricked for so long.
And they begin to retaliate.

I’ve been thinking lately about how the mlp fandom had “creepypasta” (or just generally weird and evil) versions of all the characters and had an extended universe where they were all fucked up but still friends and I think that’s so funny and I think the hermitcraft fandom should do that too.
Skulk/vex Cub, Geminislay, dungeon master Tango, vex Scar, Ren the King, demon Impulse, jungle Bdubs, Zedeath/evil scientist Zedaph, eldritch horror Keralis, fucked up watcher Grian, Beetlejhost, etc should all come together and torment people as best friends forever.

Someone has made playlists with radio recordings of news and speeches of WWII, year by year, and while I could talk to you about how listening to these gives a much better sense of the passage of time and the order of events and such, I'm coming instead to tell you about the silly point that is that in the 40s apparently it was NOT the custom to use acronyms for radio stations.
No one talks about the BBC, everyone talks about the British Broadcasting Corporation. And this is how I learned CBS stands for Columbia Broadcasting System, and NBC for National Broadcasting Company.

Hello can we see the Other Power of the Towers Beepo?
YES. YESSS.
Introducing THE AUTUMN PRINCE
Tumblr media
(Also known as Twig)
The Power of The Towers in my park is formed of old magic, magic from the Fae realm. These roots are known by very few, and as time has gone on the connections have gotten weaker. Within the Gardens though, the fairy doors can still be found if you know where to look. As with any door though, it lets things out as well as in.
The Autumn Prince is one such case, a Fae Prince of the Autumn Kingdom who fled their realm after years of political struggles and betrayals due to their status.
Now they can exist more freely, revelling in their trickster nature and able to live completely free from their home thanks to the Fae Magic that's so resonant within the park. As such though, they're fiercely territorial over the crystals as one of the few who understands them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Though they act like they're above others, in reality they're just a curious teenager who doesn't know how to make friends.
(Have a question about/for Twig or any other character I've introduced? Go right ahead! My ask box is always open.)

I hope to one day come back to this idea, but I’d love to illustrate the disney princesses in my own style, with some redesigns to some of them, or just adding neat details I think are cool, like elvish attributes. For now, sketches!

Soooo will we see Eobard in the fantasy AU? Maybe as an unseelie counterpart to Max Mercury?
Eobard will be in the fantasy au 100%.
The role Eobard plays is a little hard to get into without spoiling some things but he is Unseelie.
He's not a counterpart to Max though. Max and Eobard are like two ships in the night. They don't really interact much. Max was more present in Fae society before the war and he's completely absent during and after. Max only really gets back into things briefly when Jay and Johnny are teenagers. He becomes more active when Wally is a teenager.
Eobard, meanwhile, is incredibly active in Fae society. He's the King of the Unseelie Court. But he's way younger than Max. Eobard wasn't alive for the war.
Let's just say that Eobard has a vested interest in the half-fae. Particularly in creating them and making them swear allegiance to him and his court. There's a reason all the Fae raised half-elves are Unseelie. Eobard gets what he wants.
And uhhhhhhh, well... Eobard gets word that he's been swindled. That one of his previous deals, the next born child of a man in return for returned sanity for said man's wife, had been broken. See, the couple had delivered twins. The first born of the two was a happy healthy baby girl. The second was stillborn. The wife had quickly swapped the two and Eobard was given the lifeless infant instead of the infant he'd been promised. At the time he'd been forced to settle. Getting his revenge in other ways but otherwise leaving the baby girl alone.
A couple decades later and the truth was revealed. Eobard at once went to reverse this tragedy. Although the girl had no doubt lost her powers by then, Eobard would still take pleasure in ripping her from her family and taking her back to where she rightfully belonged.
So Eobard went off to collect Iris West.
And that went about as well as you would expect.

So we know from event stories that Lilia often went traveling even when he had Silver under his care. Does that mean he had Malleus/Sebek's family watch him? Just some interesting thoughts about young Silver growing up
Tumblr media
This may be a bit of a spoiler for EN players depending on if you've watched the translated videos for the Endless Halloween segment (Spectral Soiree— which frankly is such a fun name, twst translation team being the standout star as always), but Silver's childhood is WILD; how he survived Lilia's cooking, being left alone for periods of time, and falling asleep at random in the middle of tasks is BEYOND ME.
We do know that Lilia left him alone at their home in the woods, but that's probably when he was old enough to fend for himself. So before then? I personally have a soft spot for Malleus being the one to watch over Silver (guarding his own future guard? adorable), but for multiple reasons:
I think that Lilia trusts Malleus over anyone else (even Silver, as the event will show), especially as he was responsible to some degree for raising/teaching Malleus in his own youth— we still have little idea of what has happened to Malleus' parents (Diasomnia family lore when . . . ). So I think he'd see Malleus as an extension of himself to take care of and protect Silver when he's incapable of doing so himself. But at the same time, what a perfect opportunity for their Crown Prince to be consistently exposed to a positive example of humankind, to have a direct hand in raising a child of the very species they had gone to war with?
On the other hand, and this begins to veer into my own personal HC, if Malleus' parents did perish in the war and because of human actions no less, Lilia would be hard pressed to ignore the parallels of their orphaned prince and this orphaned, abandoned human child teaching and learning from each other.
Concerning Sebek's family, I think they would have played together and maybe watched Silver for short periods of time since he'd be so close in age to Sebek, but if Lilia was away for longer than a day, he wouldn't impose on the Zigvolts and their other children to watch his own son as well, not with Sebek's father working full time and his mother having her hands full of other children.
Which would also play into why Sebek is so cutting towards Silver at times, and apparently jealous of his easy relationship with Malleus and Lilia— Silver's known them all of his life, scampered through the grand palace gardens to play hide and seek with Lilia without understanding the rare blessing he's been given, watched and giggled with wide-eyed wonder as Malleus would make green-gold fireflies dance and shimmer for him. He's monopolized their attention ever since he was a child, isn't it time someone else has a turn to prove their worth?

Hi Pia! Question that one been wondering about for literally years and just thought to ask: what's the technical advancement of the fae realm like? When I started reading way back in the day I imagined it as a sort of renaissance -era level but then at some point there were toilets and light switches! Where does the fae realm meet human technical advancement and where does it depart?
Hi anon!
It really just depends on the fae and the fae people involved. Not all fae have toilets and light switches, and many that are running electricity are doing it through magic, and not through actual like...power lines running to a generator. Fae have a habit of taking a fridge back to the fae realm and hiring a Mage and being like 'okay make this cold like in the human realm' - and the magic will make the light go on and make it 'run on electricity' but it's...not really doing that.
I don't think there's many fae communities that have genuine power plants so much as like... filthy rich Mages who rake it in because honestly this is how most of them make money, lol.
When it comes to plumbing on the other hand, they're pretty good at it, because they have so many fae who can simply make tunnels in the ground, or who can direct the flow of water, and again - you would hire the fae you want to do the things you want within a city or a town and pay them or trade them for the skills you need and potentially the maintenance. (Toilets are uncommon for any fae Court and higher though, because they don't really produce much by the way of waste products - this would be an underfae issue more than anything). So plumbing is mostly concerned with baths and showers.
But again, it will depend on like, the kind of fae. We've had zero mention of electricity or light switches in Aethelwaters, for example. Light comes from beetles, phosphorescence, cultivated glowing lichen, and more - but there's no electricity. Their plumbing is sophisticated because they're vench - they're water-related fae who can control the flow of water, which is convenient to them.
Augus Each Uisge in the canon and in The Wildness Within demonstrates how affluent/rich he is at times re: having electricity (fake magic electricity) in his home, and mage-run lights (there are also Magelights). Because we meet other fae who don't have this, and certainly for almost all of The Ice Plague, this isn't a luxury most fae have. For example, Oengus doesn't have electricity, many towns and villages they visit don't, we have no indication that the trows have it in Trowna etc.
Ash runs his consoles and handheld consoles off 'fake electricity.' The power outlets are there, even the cables, but they're not connecting to a power station. They're connecting to a hub of Mage energy / magic that will power things for about 100+ years until it needs to be refreshed again. Fae who want that, pay a lot for it.
Fae like the Nain Rouge, who enjoy a lot of technology, will spend most of their time in the human realm where they don't have to pay much money at all to access basic electricity at all (this also influenced why Ash spent so much time in the human realm). There's only so much the fae realm can do, but without like...literal power stations, or shops that sell electric goods as anything more than curios, it's often more useful to pilfer from the human realm, or just stay there even if it's dangerous.
The fact is, most fae who don't go into the human realm don't actually know that human side electricity comes from power stations, lol. I think a lot just assume that it runs because of some magical force that humans have figured out an alternative to. And...they're not exactly wrong, they just don't really think about it much.
Hope that helps!

shipping the whole uk together,
YES, big fan, but specifically with my OC version! My Wales, called Tristan Mattock, is less of an uwu bean and more like. The sporty, friendly, if also dead tired UK brother. I wanna redesign him to give him more of a rugby player build, too.
Also, he has three mini pet dragons in the hetaverse and three cats in LFLS, who're called Rhew, Ulef and Poki.
