Kuroo x GN! Reader

"I love you"

Words exchanged between lovers, the devoted, and the unbroken. Kuroo continually expressed his affection for you, serving as a constant reminder that you were his and he was yours. You drew something from him that he was unable to explain. Was it your voice? Your eyes or perhaps.. it was your blonde hair.

You often wondered what would happen if Kenma stayed with him, would he still be telling you that he loved you? Would he still kiss your lips if you asked? Would you still feel his touch? Why did you have to make such a big effort to act and look like someone else just to win his heart?

Your stomach drops as your roots start to show. It was almost as if your own body knows that you're a fraud.

Maybe one day you wouldn't have to pretend to be someone else, and maybe you wouldn't feel so ill every time you glanced in the mirror at your own face. As you brush your hair, you wonder if there ever was anything there.

Did he even really love you?

The more you played pretend, the harder it was for you to remember who you really are.

You were spiraling and as much as you didn't want to admit it to yourself, you knew this wasn't healthy for you. The more you thought about your relationship, the heavier it felt in your heart. You were too distracted to even notice how hard you were pulling on your hair, or the tears that were starting to trickle down on your face. The tightness around your lungs was too much to bear, and sobs reverberated throughout the restroom. Your hands dropped onto the counter and held it as if your life depended on it.

You loved him.

You loved him so much to the point where it wasn't even good for you, it was a love that was one-sided and unfulfilling. There was no amount of words that could fill the emptiness in your heart. He claimed to love you, but you knew in your heart that he still had him on his mind. You we're certain, that without a second thought, he would leave you for Kenma if he ever decided to come back into his life.

"(Y/N)?"

You turn to see your lover staring at you with concern written all over his face, his hair was disheveled and his suit was untidy.

'He probably just got home'

As you gather yourself and wipe the tears from your eyes, you reply with a smile, "This... This was nothing, don't worry about me." Even though you were aware that he could read you, you were really hoping that he would leave it alone for now. He looked worn out from his shift; you didn't want to add onto his fatigue with your pointless concerns.

Kuroo snapped as he looked at your frail figure, I guess you weren't hiding it as well as you thought. "You call this nothing? (Y/N) don't lie to me, you've been like this for a week. This is definitely not a one-time thing, at least talk to me!" you were taken aback, you didn't expect him to react so strongly. This was very new to you, mostly because you rarely ever showed any negative emotions in front of him.

The room felt heavy, all his attention was on you. You were already overwhelmed, being interrogated was the last thing you needed right now.

You weren't convincing anyone, and you know that. "I told you it's nothing okay? I'm fucking fine." Right now, you just can't look at him. Speaking was already difficult for you. He was not helping. "You're not fooling anyone (Y/N), especially not me", he said, shaking his head in astonishment.

He walked towards you trying to comfort your shaking figure, "I'm your boyfriend, of course I'd know if there's something wrong with you," he spoke softly, pushing the stray hair from your face. His comforting words only hurt you more.

"Kuroo, I don't need shit from you right now okay?" you push him away, your emotions getting the best of you. Your voice was beginning to tremble at this point. His chest was pierced by your words like a sharp dagger, it echoed on his mind, why were you acting so cruel? You weren't usually like this.

You looked away from his gaze, your stomach was already in knots. You didn't know what else to say; sliding past him, you enter your shared bedroom. Laying down on the cold mattress as you stare out the window. He stood in the bathroom dumbfounded and confused.

The two of you were silent as you listened to the sound of cicadas, not exchanging a single word.
