can someone explain to me like im five why these streaming services and places that rip from them will label videos as "HD" or 1080p and you look at the video specs and it is technically 1080p in that those are the width dimensions of the video but it is pixelated over as if buffering from the internet quality even when downloaded (which btw is NOT HD). like
this is pulled from an actual disc:
Tumblr media
this is labeled as "HD" pulled from a streaming service that you pay money for:
Tumblr media
this shit wtf is this shit
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Why is macroblocked pixelated shit labeled the same as actual quality shit? Why are things that I am paying monthly for in 2024 worse than a VHS I rented from Blockbuster in 2004

The challenge with defining an art style lies in its role as a foundational tool, essentially serving as the initial mark on a blank canvas. Moreover, what makes this tool particularly intriguing is its versatility. It's fascinating how this single tool can be wielded for diverse purposes across the artistic spectrum.
For instance, consider the prevalence of a realistic-leaning approach in concept art. This style often aims to capture intricate details and nuances, breathing life into fantastical worlds and characters. On the other end of the spectrum, animated movies frequently adopt an expressive cartoon shape language. This approach exaggerates forms and features to convey emotion and narrative, demonstrating the adaptability of the same fundamental tool.
Now, shift your focus to the realm of fine art, where the boundaries of artistic expression are boundless. Here, art can take on abstract forms, devoid of immediate, tangible meaning. Instead, it becomes a deeply personal, almost enigmatic journey for both the artist and the viewer.
These diverse manifestations - from the realism of concept art to the expressive abstraction of fine art - all contribute to the rich tapestry that is the concept of an art style. Despite their apparent disparities, they share the common thread of being manifestations of human creativity, each a unique response to the blank canvas and a testament to the endless possibilities inherent in the world of art.
My struggle lies in the vastness of creative possibilities, akin to being a blank page with limitless potential but feeling mentally confined to a stagnant space. I find myself repeatedly doodling and engaging in less popular pursuits, seemingly without progress or direction. It's as if I'm yearning for a sense of belonging in the creative realm, but every pursuit falls short.
For instance, when I immerse myself in the enchanting world of "Steven Universe," I'm drawn to the idea of crafting something cartoony and infused with an anime-like vibrancy. Yet, when I delve into the intricate and dark universe of "Berserk," I'm inspired to create something rich in detail, with a touch of darkness and humor. Then, after playing "Devil May Cry," I'm compelled to explore the dramatic, realistic, and gothic aspects of art.
These myriad inspirations constantly pull me in different directions, leaving me feeling divided and adrift. It's as if I'm running on a treadmill, exerting effort but ultimately getting nowhere because I lack a clear sense of purpose in my artistic endeavors.
The root of my challenge lies in not knowing how to channel my creative energies effectively within the realm of art. It's a struggle to find my artistic identity and establish a cohesive direction for my work. As a result, I often find myself in a state of artistic flux, yearning for the day when my creativity finds its true path, and I can channel my diverse inspirations into a cohesive and fulfilling artistic journey.
To the kind reader, you might be wondering, "Why not amalgamate all the elements you hold dear into one cohesive artistic expression?" I've ventured down that path, and the reality is that I either lack the requisite skill at this point or the amalgamation appears far too disparate when I attempt it. The outcome often manifests in my sketchbook as a somewhat clumsy, unattractive amalgamation. Alternatively, it could be that I simply lack the swiftness and concentration necessary to create something textured and intricate.
I find myself in the conundrum of standing at the crossroads of limitless creative potential, with the ability to traverse any artistic terrain, yet struggling to move forward. It's akin to possessing an expansive map but being uncertain of the route to take. The result is a sense of artistic stagnation, a feeling of going in circles, where I can imagine the destination but can't seem to reach it.
In essence, I'm torn between the desire to blend my varied interests and the practical challenges that stand in my way, whether it be the gap in skill or the time and focus required for detailed work. This artistic dichotomy leaves me in a state of creative flux, yearning to bridge the gap between my eclectic inspirations and my current abilities.
"I have no mouth and I must scream."
The conflict within me stems from a craving for intricate detail, yet a distinct lack of patience to painstakingly craft it. I'm drawn to the allure of realism, with its ability to capture the world's nuances faithfully, but at the same time, I yearn for the boundless freedom of artistic expression.
I harbor ambitions to delve into the realms of animation and video game concept art, avenues that demand expertise and creativity. I can't classify myself as a beginner in the realm of art; I've traversed beyond the rudimentary stages. However, I'm currently trapped in a sort of creative stasis, a space where I find myself traversing in circles, unable to advance.
It's a frustrating predicament, one where my artistic style remains stagnant, and my skills are not progressing in the direction I desire. I feel as if I'm standing still on a path that ought to lead somewhere, yet I'm unable to perceive where that destination might be. The blend of aspirations and the existing state of my abilities creates a perplexing paradox that I'm eager to overcome, eager to push forward and see both my artistry and my style evolve.

Why do you (as in the royal you) as a member of a fandom,, seem to believe that things need to be,,, canon??? in fanfiction??? why would? that ever be? if you wanted to read pure canon, you could,,,, idk,,, read canon? pick up the source material,,, and if you wanted to read pure canon fanfiction just search the ‘canon compliant’ tag. that’s how ao3 works. so silly.

Not to sound like a boomer on main, because I love my phone- I do. But I really miss the day when I could hang out in public without having to hear everyone else's phones. I don't care if there are babies crying (because babies cry sometimes) or if other people are having conversations (because that's what people come to cafes and such to do) but hearing tinny little phone sounds blasting out loud out of their speakers drives me insane. I'm only in my 30's, why are you making me complain about how things were "back in my day" like I'm 80? Public phone noise is prematurely aging me. Send help.

yeah ok we've heard of butch fem ghost which is awesome showstopping amazing but if i may add onto that: the entire tf141 being butches. soap with the same mohawk stunting around in military surplus activewear to attract femmes (or other butches. she's not picky). gaz who– unlike her friends– presents herself as more of a bifauxnen with clean pressed shirts and a nice smile. price who's the hardest butch out of all of them; never shaving, foregoing bras, referring to herself with brazen terms popular in the older queer scene (all the while having the voice of a chainsmoker, so deep it can initially be mistaken for a man's tone) (maybe she even packs?)
just. ugh. butches…
and imagine if you were passed between all of them? spitroasted by their straps? omg

I disagree with people defending the Chameleon's Backstory
So when Kung Fu Panda 4 came out there was a lot of mixed reception from fans. Some hated it, some liked it or loved it, and others found it fine.
Personally, I think it's fine, I don't hate but I don't like it either. It could've been worse and could've been better.
One thing that always bugs me about fans defending the chameleon's backstory is that keep mentioning the shorts and one animator saying not all dojos were as excepting. Which I have several issues.
1. We don't know if the shorts are canon or not. The shorts are character backstories. Especially in the secrets of the Furious Five and secrets of the scrolls. Fans would mention how some of the dojos didn't accept or respect certain species. They bring up Crane not being accepted because he is skinny and looks weak. That sure is fair enough. But the thing is in the same short we have Mantis kicking ass! Now we don't know much about how Mantis learned Kung Fu. This is another thing I'm skeptical of in the shorts especially Secrets of the Furious Five, as it was Po telling the stories as lessons to kids. So we don't know how accurate they are.
Then we have the secrets of the scrolls. People also brought up but it doesn't make sense as an argument. Like Shifu is a master and he's also small. We even see other Red Panda masters. People say when he gets mad at the five as an example. But people missed the point, He was not mad because they were different species, he's mad because they weren't the people he asked for.
My rule is if it ain't in the actual movie then it ain't canon or brought up at all. Unless DreamWorks actually says they are canon but they haven't. Btw I like the shorts but I wouldn't take them too seriously.
2. People keep bringing up one animator on Twitter who says that not all dojos are as accepting as the Jade Palace. That would've been fine but like, the issue is that it's one animator.
Tumblr media
We haven't heard from the others and not even the writers. Also, they said that Secrets of the Scrolls is canon. But my criticism is that she only worked on the fourth movie and not the previous ones. Unless it's her personal opinion or headcanon. But like I said if it ain't in the movie it dosnet count. I wouldn't mind it if we saw a flashback to see it happen, but we never did.
3. Even if the dojos were rejected just because of her size. It still doesn't make sense because we already have canonically small masters. Like we literally have a Master Rat that leads an army. We knew this because we the army's battle helmet at the Jade Palace in the third movie.
Tumblr media
Heck, even in 4 Po mentions a Master Chipmunk. So how unlucky does the Chameleon to find the right dojo? There are probably dojos out there who specifically train small animals. Heck we even saw them in Secrets of the Scrolls of red panda masters (I know I just repeated myself)
Tumblr media
So that's why I disagree with some fans. I feel like there trying to make it sense in their heads which is fine, but they acted as if were in the movie? Like in the film Chameleons just said she was rejected because was small and lowly. Nothing else to flesh it.
So that was my rant and stuff. I gotta go to bed. Sorry for any grammar mistakes.

I mean I would really recommend putting a neg tag on that. Just for politeness sakes? It’s not a fun experience to see someone calling your fav characters deeply evil n stuff
to be fair, yes. but this character is the one that canonically beat a kid half to death in a bit because he didn't wanna apologize for blowing said kid's best friend up, and then went on to ally himself multiple times with a known abuser. i added it, because u were nice, and I do appreciate the politeness, but sometimes I don't because I feel we as a fandom are past the days of the "poor little oink oink" cTechno takes and hopefully can have open, productive conversations about how Fucked that thang really was in lore like 95% of the time

"oh this tradition isn't that old, it only came about in ..."
bitch, buckling up inna car weren't even a thing when I was little**! Just let this old lady have her lil existential crisis over age things that aren't sharks, rotary phones or modem dial-tones
**no, seatbelts in cars have been a thing since like..the 60s. The LAWS mandating buckling up however didn't start slowly trickling in until the mid-80s all the way to late 90s
