I read somewhere that its common in Arab culture to refer to someone close to you as your organs, implying you can’t live without them. Like how in english someone would say “my heart” (qalbi), in Arabic someone would also use “my liver” (kabidi) “my lungs” (riati). Notably, “my blood” is “Dami” which is funny bc it’s Damian’s shortened nickname.
Damian’s brothers have been using the nickname for years with or without knowing. I propose that as Damian gets closer to them, and Tim in particular, he responds in kind.
He starts to refer to Tim as “tuhali.”
…it means “my spleen.”
(Edit: this has now been confirmed by several Arabic speakers! Except the pronunciation of Dami (as in my blood) and Dami (shortened) are different which is sad. But my spleen idea works! So I’m happy!)

percy is middle eastern (specifically lebanese) argue with god
are headcanons about percys ethnicity still cool in 2023. idk im forcing you all to look at it anyway
no way in hell would the entire fucking country look at a little 12 year old white boy and be like "yeah I definitely believe that this child is a terrorist" like they did in TLT
described as looking 'Mediterranean', tans easily
not uncommon for ppl in the levant to have the dark hair/complexion + light eyes combo
also not uncommon for (non-muslim) swana ppl in the US to have vaguely western-sounding names. his last name was anglicized don't ask questions
fun nod to civilizations like the phoenicians being seafarers, poseidon's multiple connections to phoenicia in greek myth + historically being worshipped in the area
he would use the heinous insults that exist in arabic as casually as one would talk about the weather. he doesnt even actually know arabic he just knows how to say fuck you in all its iterations.
just realized how funny this hc would be in light of that comment he made in SoM shitting on hummus LMAOOOOOO

Ok, so I just want to get the general fandom consensus on what they think Jason's ethnicity is, because during DITF he though Lady Shiva was a viable option for his birth mom

I started a modern AU Old Guard fic in Feb 2021 in which, a few chapters in, Nicky starts learning Arabic on Duolingo.
'You know what,' I thought, naively, 'I'll just do the first few lessons myself so I can use some of the sillier sentences from it in the fic.'
Just under 3 years later, I have just completed all levels of Duolingo Arabic on Legendary. The fic, while nudging at 100k words, is still not finished. I believe there is one brief reference to Duolingo in it.
It's a bloody hard won reference though.

At this point if you don't know anything about Arab colonization (as in done by Arabs, not to them) then maybe you shouldn't be commenting on a region you clearly know absolutely nothing about.

I’m actually so in love w my schedule right now. Daily 8-hour study sessions, reading before bed (slowly but steadily working my way through It by Alexa Chung & At the Existentialist Cafe by Sarah Bakewell, among others), snacking on so many tasty fruits, volunteering every week, organic chemistry research every day, marathoning Audrey Hepburn movies bc I’m officially obsessed w her, flash cards on the treadmill, deep-conditioning my curls while studying, I live at my local library and coffee shops and my favorite boba place, going out w my friends on the weekends, carving pumpkins and watching spooky movies w my bsf, vibing to songs on sunset walks, and like actually minding my own fucking business. I would ask for nothing more

It is my god given mission to NOT draw fakir as a white boy idc what’s canon, this interview annoys me so bad
Tumblr media
[ID: rough transcript of an interview with Ikuko Itoh. Someone asks “since fakir is an Arabic word, does that mean fakir is Arab and/or was he intentionally made to look so, and if so why?” The transcriber writes “her response to this is that while in her mind he is not Arab, she wouldn’t rule out the possibility that fakir has Arab ancestry in his family tree”]
WHY’D YOU GIVE HIM AN ARABIC NAME THEN?? It’s okay mr fakir I won’t let her whitewash you

why does every article reporting on idf war crimes go "hamas, who started the war on october 7th with their brutal terrorist attack slaughtering innocent israeli civilians, has condemned the idf's use of-"? like, nearly verbatim every single time. we know about october 7th. we know by now. half the time, hamas isnt even relevant but they gotta find some way to sow doubt and numb any potential compassion responses. will you get fired if you show sympathy for murdered palestinian civilians without first adding a disclaimer saying its all their fault for being born in gaza? if you call "palestinians under 18" children? if you use the words "murdered" or "brutal" or "massacre" for acts that didnt occur on october 7th? if you call a spade a spade? why are israeli reports front page news without proper fact-checking but palestinian reporting is always "allegedly" even when theres video evidence? why does the idf not get the hamas treatment of reminding everyone that theyre biased before treating their words as law, like they havent been caught bold-faced lying again and again?
#soooooo fucking infuriating#'palestinians are allegedly starving but thats what hamas (who are savage terrorists in case you forgot) said as well so who knows?'#'idf soldiers are allegedly bragging about and showing pictures and videos of their war crimes on social media but#its not in english so we may never know what theyre saying. palestinian ''civilians'' are translating so whatever they say must be wrong'#'in other news. heres what ''doctors'' are referring to as a ''calendar'' but is written in arabic (terrorist language) so the idf must be#telling the truth when they say its proof they are all evil and must in some nebulous way suddenly stop living'#to be fair. the 'secret hamas names list disguised as calendar but REALLY about oct 7' shit was the target of skepticism quite early on#but it really does show how often the idf lies to justify obvious war crimes#maybe they should provide verified evidence or even just be given a bias disclaimer before printing their claims as fact???#every single fucking death toll is phrased as 'hamas-run ministry of health reports death toll of x' like?#yeah? thats their fucking government? what else do you expect?#you do understand that the healthcare portion of their government is probably more reputable#than what the phrasing of those headlines are obviously trying to imply?#i understand that bias is still possible there but its not armed combatants making shit up#its doctors who receive govt paychecks doing their best to identify the disfigured bodies not buried under rubble#youre not slick with that wording

Hey, remember that thing that zionists accused Hamas of, about slaughtering Israeli women and cutting open their stomachs to remove fetuses? Apparently, it was called the Sabra and Shatila massacre of 1982.
You think hamas terrorists were inspired by the Lebanese Christian falangists?? That would require an ability to read on their part though :(

My mind operates in half English half Arabic so with certain emotions and topics I think in English and others in Arabic.
My friends and family have pointed out when I like something a lot or see something cute I revert to speaking Arabic so 😭😭😭
