sorry folks more ‘gushing about octopath’ posting
something i really like about octopath (both mainline entries) is how it’s very ‘work smarter not harder’ when it comes to overcoming challenges, particularly its boss fights (which are imo the best parts of the whole experience). you’re encouraged to learn from your mistakes and rethink your approach rather than just be put to work grinding your party. it helps that octopath is one of those games that actually lets you debuff big bosses and inflict basic status effects like poison on them (those can really tip the scales and you should absolutely do them!).
imo there’s absolutely no point in the main traveler stories where you have to grind for a fight (grinding to be a high enough level to do certain path actions to progress the story is a different case). in fact i think the ‘recommended level’ that’s attached to each story chapter is complete nonsense that can be mostly ignored.
i’ve had a sneaking suspicion that those levels are intentionally inflated in order to give players who rush in way below that threshold that sweet underdog glory when they beat a challenge the game advised they were too low level for. that’s another part about octopath that i like so much. you can (and should) barrel into the next story chapter with your party members (sans your exp hogging leader) 5-8 levels below the recommended to both not waste your time on grinding and also to challenge yourself and your battle strategies just a little more. spice of life, baby!!
so it always disappoints me whenever i see people (namely on reddit when i scrolled there when the first octopath was all that there was) despair over not being a high enough level or thinking they need to grind to meet these recommended levels that are a huge jump from how their team currently is. no!!! stop!!!! you don’t need to grind stop!!
(maybe you need to grind for Three bosses in the endgame. but before then you definitely don’t need to)

Actually I’m curious with the Mama!Harley au how would she react to vol9 jaune?
"Hattah, Imma give ya one chance!"
"Tsk, tsk, Miss Quinn!" Said the strange man in a green hat.
Jervis Tetch, or The Mad Hatter for you few Gothamites reading, wagged his finger at Harley. Same gag as he always pulls; kidnap innocent girl, roleplay his obsession with her, snaps because she isn't a fan like him, then kills her to find the his next 'Alice'. Harley managed to get the girl out, but Tetch had to be taken care of. When she chased him, his trap caught her. Hey, we all have our off days.
"You should know better than to chase the White Rabbit, don't you?"
"I wasn't chasin' a rabbit." Harley snapped. "Only thing I'm chasin' is a creep who got way too into his story books."
"How rude!" Hatter balked. "Clearly, a readjustment must be made, post-haste! Wouldn't you agree, my March Hare?"
The poor goon behind him simply drooled and nodded behind in his brown rabbit mask. Hatter turned to him and snapped his fingers but was only met with the same drooling face as before. From his pocket, he produced a small sitch. With a point and click, he electrocuted the henchman who was gratefully too numb to scream as he was shocked to death.
"Now, what will you be?" Jervis took a mask from a box at random. He clapped his hands with glee at the face that stared back at him. In his hand, he held a mask shaped like a cat. "Oh, my dearest Cheshire! It's been too long!"
"Keep the hell away from me, you creep!" Harley thrashed against her restraints.
"Oh, Harley, I wish you could see things my way." He shook his head. "If you only could see things as I do..." His voice became faded and distant. "Through... the... look... ing... glaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa..."
---------------------------------------------------
"Ugh, what the hell?" Harley looked around and found herself in a strange location, even by Hatter's standards. Was she about to meet the Walrus and the Carpenter, because that was the only place she could think of that had a beach like this. Still, the colors were way off. "Okay, just gotta find a way out."
As Harley walked, she noticed the scenery was wildly different. Floral gardens had been replaced with lush jungles. She saw a tribe of mice work together to water a bush of thorned vines. As she passed through the village, she noticed all of the characters were pieces from different board games.
"Jaune used tah love board games." She sighed. It felt like forever since she last saw her baby boy.
One day, all of a sudden with no warning, the transdimensional gate between Remnant and Gotham broke and couldn't connect. It was like the gate on the other side was broken somehow, both at Beacon AND in Atlas! Without another portal, mother and son couldn't reunite, no matter how much she wanted to.
Until then, she had to wai-
"M-Mom?"
Harley froze. The voice was different, but she'd recognize it anywhere, anyway, anyhow. It's a real power. Just ask your mother. Jaune could.
"Jaune?" Harley turned and tears flowed on sight. Her son, her baby boy, her little cupcake. He was right in front of her.
But he was so old. His hair, once bright like spun gold had now dulled and filled with white streaks. He'd grown an inch or two, too, and was wearing armor so covered in rust, she felt like she need a tetanus shot just looking at it. And she would after she was done crushing Jaune in her hug.
"M-Ma!" Jaune whined. "You're crushin' me!"
"I don't care!" She laughed and sobbed. "You're my baby boy, and I'm nevah letting you go!"
"What are you doing here?" Jaune asked as he hugged her. "How are you here?"
"It's a long story, sweetie, but I can tell you later." She pulled away. "Right now, I need to find a creep in a green hat. If I don't find him, I'll... I'll..."
"Mom?" Jaune asked.
Harley was conflicted. On the one hand, Gotham needed her to come back. Hatter was still loose, which meant a lot of innocent people were in danger. Batman could handle it, but he wouldn't be around forever.
But neither would Jaune. After so long, she finally meets him again and it's in a fantasy world. She would never get this chance again would she?
"Jaune, I... I don't know what to do." Harley shook her head. "I need to go back, but I... I'm not sure if I can leave this time. Not when I have you in my arms."
"I know, Mom, but... you'll have to let me go some day, right?"
"If I had it my way, you'd be my baby forevah."
"I always will be, Mom."
Harley was crying with a smile. This would be the most painful she'd done since she gave birth and brought him into her world. Not a close second, but a second regardless. She stepped away.
"Jaune, I'll nevah fuhgive you fuh breaking yuh mothah's heart..."
---------------------------------------------------
"...but I'll always... love... you?" Harley looked around and saw the Dark Knight standing over a beaten Jervis. Panic filled her mind as she found the cat mask in pieces against the wall. "NOOOOO!"
---------------------------------------------------
Jaune stood there. He stayed where he was, unmoving as the world continued to move silently around him. Some who passed stared as they went about their lives. Children. Parents. Sons. Mothers.
Harley's last words to him rang on a loop in his mind.
'Jaune, I'll never forgive you for breaking your mother's heart.'

Bird of Prey Chapter Four: Til Death Do We Part
(a/n: Hey friends! Decided to put this out early!! taglist: @carry-on-my-wayward-gays, @bluiex, @devorakian-guilt, @teslapenguini, @majickth )
"So... what now?"
What now indeed. There the two of them were, sitting down on the bed in the ranch, staring at the communicator until it blinked off. They'd been staring at it since Jimmy got back from Scott's death. They'd won.
There wasn't an overwhelming sense of joy, like was normally felt when winning. Was this what it felt like? What even was the point of winning if it just meant emptiness.
No. Not emptiness. Tango was here with him, Tango would go where he goes. And Tango meant he wasn't alone. He never would be, not again.
Jimmy soon broke into a smile and stood up tugging his soulmate up with him. "Come on.. We don't have too much longer left... the evening is young. Let's make the most of it."
Tango couldn't help smiling as well. The once jaded canary had some brightness back to him. For once, the bright yellow wings didn't look artificial. He took Jimmy's hand and kissed the back of it gently. "Let's... I think I have just the thing."
The night went pleasantly. Tango fixed up a jukebox and custom discs, similar to the stuff they were playing with in Hermitcraft. The two danced all evening, Jimmy blushing in particular when he heard Tango whisper to him the words of the song.
"I don't want to set the world on fire, honey.." He crooned, and Jimmy felt himself melt. "I love you too much.. I just want to start a great big flame, down in your heart..."
And he had. Jimmy hadn't felt more alive in one of these games since being paired with Tango. Alive, and full of love and confidence, a feeling he'd never felt in one of these games. Not since the first time.
As the clock ticked away, Jimmy threw his arms around Tango's neck and brought him down into a kiss. Bold and tender and sweet. Tango let out a surprised little "meep" before it happened, but he melted into it all the same, arms settling around Jimmy's waist as he smiled.
This was home.
And in the time they had together, they decided they'd make something to remember this world, this life, each other by. Tango worked with metals, bending and shaping them with ease. Rummaging around other people's areas lead him to find netherite, exactly what he needed for this. Not for tools or armor, no, there was no point to that anymore. But there was something else he could do with it. Two thin pieces of the material were bend into a ring. One for him and one for Jimmy. A promise that no matter what world, what life, they'd remember this moment. This bond. Their soulmate.
Jimmy was busy at work too, gathering up the molted feathers that were scattered around the ranch, and making sure the animals were well fed. They deserved that much at least.
He gathered a few feathers together, some of the muted yellow and some of the bright yellow, and tied them up with string. That string was hooked to a small, thin piece of iron, and clipped to a short point.
When the time came for them to exchange gifts, Tango insisted Jimmy go first. Sheepishly, the avian handed the feathers over. "It... I'm not the best with metalwork- and you may have to tweak some things, but it's.. it's an earring. I know you like wearing them,, and it's my feathers, so.. a part of me is always with you."
"Buttercup.." Tango smiled, warm and sweet and making Jimmy's face turn all sorts of red. "I love it.." He carefully put it in and grinned. "Looks good, huh?"
"I'll say..." Jimmy muttered under his breath. Tango snorted, shaking his head as he took Jimmy's hand carefully. "Here's my gift..." Carefully putting it on, he watched as Jimmy stared down at it, his voice hitching.
"Tango-... is that a ring?"
"A promise ring." He confirmed. "A little reminder that we'll always have each other. No matter what world.. I'll always love you. You'll always be my soulmate, my rancher."
Jimmy, at this point, shouldn't be faulted for the floodgates of tears that opened almost as soon as Tango started talking. He threw his arms around Tango and hugged him tightly, burying his face into his soulmate's shoulder. "I love you-" He said, voice weak and shaking. "I love you. I love you." He couldn't stop repeating it. Not until Tango carefully brought a hand up to rub his back and play with the ends of his hair.
"I love you too, songbird.. it's okay.. deep breath, baby." He soothed. "Deep breaths.. it's okay.."
Jimmy eventually stopped staining Tango's jacket in tears, though that definitely would not be the last time. "It's just-" he sniffled as Tango brought his face out from his shoulder and thumbed away his tears gingerly. "Everyone's always seen me as the curse,, the stupid canary,, not a real player. But- you... you made me feel alive..! You believed in me- everyone thought I'd get out first, but you.. I felt like I could actually make it.. Thank you.."
"Of course.." Tango kissed the top of his head and smiled. Warm and comforting. Tango was always warm. "I love you so much,, and I know we don't have much time left in this world, the game is over after all. And when we go to sleep we'll wake up in new worlds... but, I promise to find you. We will always have each other.." He held up his own promise ring, allowing Jimmy to put it on him as he kissed the tip of his nose, smiling as it scrunched up slightly. "I promise you that.."
And things were peaceful. They were quiet, and they were home.
The peace, however much they wanted it to, wouldn't last for much longer. If they slept, the Watchers would decide who won. And neither of them wanted that.
"You should take the win." Jimmy blurted out. Tango couldn't stop the shocked laugh that escaped him.
"What?"
"You-... you should take it.. only one of us can." Jimmy muttered. "You've... given me something worth so much more than winning the game.. You gave me hope. You showed me that my curse, though cruel, isn't something that I should let hold me back. You believed in me... What's more powerful than that? There's nothing I could ever do to make up for that... but I can let you win the game.."
"I think you deserve the win more than I do, buttercup.." Tango laughed softly and shook his head. "You've been working for this the whole game.. Fighting the odds, biting the hand that feeds, and ripping it from the arm that enforces.. You've shown them you're not just their canary, but a real part of this game.. Besides, against you, I don't even want to win. I was okay with dying at the start, and I'm okay with it now.. You take it, baby."
"I- I don't think I can do that.." Jimmy whispered, his voice breaking again. "Not when I know what it's like to be with you... Now that I have you in my life, how could I ever give that up? I don't think I could live without you."
"You won't lose me forever, Jimmy.. I promise.." Tango smiled knowingly. "We've got other worlds... We'll see each other again. I said I'd find you in the next world.. And I will.."
Jimmy nodded, leaning into his comforting arms and relaxing with a shaking breath. He looked up at Tango and thought for a moment, before whispering, "we go out together."
"Neither of us win.. Neither of us lose." Tango looked down at him and kissed under his eye.
"We can even go out the way we went in... with a bang."
"I'll get the tnt."
It was decided.
The tnt was placed around them in a small ring. Tango held onto Jimmy's hand and helped him inside the ring, smiling at him a little bit. "Well... This is it."
"Yeah.." Jimmy whispered. "This is it... This is the end.."
Tango tilted his chin up to look him in the eyes properly, smiling down at him and brushing his thumb against his cheek. "I'm so glad I got paired with you.."
"Me too.." Jimmy held Tango's hand to his cheek. "We probably shouldn't be wasting anymore time.."
"Right.." Tango struggled to light one of the bundles for a bit, eventually striking the flint against the steel right and lighting one of the fuses. Then he went right back to Jimmy, taking both of his hands gently. "Let's get the hell out of here."
Hand in hand they went out. Til death do us part, as the old saying goes. Just as the seconds ticked down, Jimmy yanked Tango down into a kiss.
And it was over. Everything went white around them, no sounds could be heard but the hissing and popping of tnt.

Part 1: Fresh Start
:)
Backstory
You loved wakanda and loved serving for it. You were ride or die for wakanda and always made sure the people were safe in Wakanda. Many people loved how you were about wakanda and many kids even looked up to you.You loved the imagery the people the culture and the overall vibe in wakanda. Until you had a change of heart about Wakanda.
No one knew why you had a change of heart. Scratch that it was only one person who knew your change of heart about Wakanda. Round Of applause it was Queen Shuri. She was actually why your heart changed about the nation. She broke your heart into pieces, pieces you couldn't put back together at that. You and shuri were a secret couple and had been dating for what felt like forever but was really 5 useless years. You guys broke up due to you guys always being busy and when you were up she was sleeping when you were sleeping she was up. You guys never had time to talk about coming out and telling wakanda that you were dating or how you could fix that part of the relationship. You were just now moving out of wakanda since the breakup. You moved out of the place a day after the break. Now you were moving out of wakanda for good. Many Citizens of wakanda tried talking you out of it . But it was no hope no matter what anyone would say you were moving out. Wakanda brought back the good and bad memories of your relationship. You were tired of seeing those memories everywhere. You couldn't go the park without having a flashback."Since the movies are in a couple of hours how about we go to the park " Shuri says while walking to the park."Yeah, That sounds cool " You say while smiling. You guys started to walk up a hill to get food before going to the park. You were going to have a picnic date. You even remembered your last day in Wakanda. You even remembered the day that you left .You started to walk on the drone getting ready to leave wakanda for good. You felt a tap on your shoulder you turned around to see who it could be. It was Okoye your boss and leader of the Dora miljae. She was now your ex-boss but still your best friend. "Your moving for good huh, " She says looking at you with your bags. "I'm Moving for good " You try to smile. "I'm going to miss you I'm still a part of the Dora miljae for good. " You say shedding a teardown your face and heading to the ground. "You will always be a part of the Dora miljae " Okoye smiles. You take off your kimiyo bead bracelet earrings and necklace shuri gave to you."Send me a card as soon as you settle in ok " she smiles "Of course " you reply. You hug Okoye and then walk onto the drone.
Present Time Y/n's Pov
You lived in an underground nation most people wouldn't know how to pronounce the name or spot where it was on a map. That was perfect so most people from wakanda wouldn't be able to spot or know where you were. You lived in Bakunawa.
Today Bakunawa had a meeting on a new plan to take down some nations. You were a warrior for the government so you had to be there on time or earlier. You were dressed in the armor they provided. And you hair was sleek and done.
You were walking to the throne room where this so-called meeting occurred. As you walked in the throne room you felt all the eyes on you . you walked to where the other warriors were standing.
Queen Ayra of Bakunawa Got up "Our meeting is now in session " she says while sitting back down in her thrown."We are gathred here today to take down one of most powerful nations Wakanda " she says . You were in your thoughts thinking about life. "Woah Woah Wakanda, " You ask her. "Yes Y/n wakanda did I stutter," she says being snappy. "Woah you shouldn't do that " The queen rolls her eyes at your response."Y/n if you want to defend wakanda so much I can demote and send you to jail if you don't fight in this war "
"Listen I used to be a Dora miljae warrior and the only way that we could beat wakanda is if we have vibranuim. And I know for a fact most of you guys have never seen virbranuim" You say
"ehh I guess your right y/n Since y/n knows so much about wakanda you are going to go to wakanda on a mission to get vibranuim," she says while smiling.
"Alright Jaromir you guys start training and pre- paring for the invasion on wakanda, " Queen Ayra says. You were excited but you also felt like somewhere in your heart you crushed something."Alright in wakanda there 2 different types of the Dora miljae regular Dora miljae or the midnight angels. There are exactly 2-midnight angels they have shorter spears but they can fight well. The regular Dora miljae has a long spear. You say talking with your hands and pacing. "Now there a couple places that have vibranuim but it is very dangerous," You say while posting on your whiteboard."Listen when going to get vibranuim there are going to be protective and if you get caught you will be humiliated. That means you have to be on high alert and always ready to put up a fight," you say while pointing. "This is the least secured vibranuim safe. " That means we need to start training for every possible problem," you say making everyone get up to start training.
Once training was over it was 2:15 in the morning .“Go home everyone and get some rest meet back here at 10 am, "you said looking around at everyone. They were sweaty tired weak and dehydrated. You got your stuff together so you could leave.you walk out of the jaromir you where tired and a lot was on you mind.
Once you made it to your apartment door you started to open . Until you heard sound from your tv. You unlock your door but kick it open. The Dora Miljae told you to always be alert . You got in your fighting stance until you saw okoye and nakia .
“What the hell are you doing in my apartment” you ask placing your bags on the grounds .”Im supposed to be from people in wakanda “ you say closing the door so no one could be nosy. “Your really hidden, took us many times before finding your right location”okoye says as she chuckles while standing up .
“Do you guys know what they’d due to me if they caught us they will demote me make me a citizen for a day than put me in the worst prison they have “ you say while looking at Nakia and okoye crazy.
“Ok well why are your here and why did you find me “ you ask while sitting on your bar stool. “ well for a couple weeks now shuri has been talking about you and missing you and she didn’t know you moved out of wakanda “ Nakia says while crossing her arms.
“Oh yeah that was the point” you say while being chill. “What do you mean that was the point” okoye asks. “I moved out of wakanda because of shuri” you say while taking with your hands. “Why though” Nakia asks confused on why you would do this. “Because me and shuri dated so everywhere I would ago I would see the memories of the relationship and i was tired of it so I left “ you say chill and unbothered at the end you shrug your shoulders .
“Well I’ll see you guys later I need rest “ you say opening the door signaling them to get out .”I’ll tell her why you left “ Nakia says you nod in response. “Ok that’s fine “ Nakia goes out then okoye .
You begin to smirk at a thought “since she misses me she’ll see me soon very soon”

Okay so you said to send prompts so we can talk about dad!Spencer so my thoughts: how does Spencer and pregnant!BAU reader tell the team that they are expecting?? Is it like a game? Do they just announce it suddenly? How does it go
IT TOOK ME SO LONG BECAUSE I CAN’T DECIDE THE ENDING BUT HERE WE GO. OK THEN since JJ was the first person who find out, so here how it goes:
Spencer and you have been talking about it for quite some time. Your parents and his mom already knew, and sooner or later you have to break the news to the team too. Spencer had been a little more agitated than you, mainly because a) he couldn’t conceal his happiness for so long; b) he would want you to stay back safely if the team called for a case.
You suggested a quite straightforward method, inviting everyone for dinner to break the news. He agreed and promised he would start looking for some good restaurant to invite everyone. You tried to suggest cooking the food by yourself and he shot down the idea almost immediately.
All the plans were thrown out of the window, however, as soon as you found yourself standing in front of Morgan’s desk, lips quivering and eyes glossed with tears. Morgan peeled his eyes away from his paperwork slowly, almost syrupy-like, and was more than surprised to find you staring at him tearfully.
“I am sorry,” you blurted out immediately, leaving him no room to ask why you were staring at him like that.
Morgan blinked. “What?”
“I am sorry!” you repeated, with more force in your voice that left him stunned. “Please forgive me.”
“For…?”
“I ate your cake.”
“My cake?” Morgan repeated dumbly and slowly. He blinked, tried to piece everything together, slowly walking back through all the course of events in his life that led him to this exact moment. “The chocolate cake I left in the fridge at the break room?”
“Yes, that one. I am sorry, I didn’t mean to!” you started to sniffle, feeling some stray tears started to stream down your face. Morgan looked alarmed as he straightened up on his seat. “I am sorry!”
Morgan was more than confused, if not alarmed by your sudden tearful confession of you eating his cake. You saw JJ stood up from her seat from your peripheral vision, pushing a chair towards you and gently coaxed you to sit down. You couldn’t really register what happened through your high wave of guilt and tearful eyes, but suddenly Emily is standing next to you and JJ rubbed your back soothingly.
“Morgan!” you yelled his name, agitated by his silence. “Say something!”
You could feel Emily gesturing something towards Morgan, mouthed some words you couldn’t hear. Morgan flickered his eyes between you and Emily, his eyebrows furrowed together in a mixture of confusion and pure concern.
You know that it was stupid, and you probably had made a scene in the middle of the bullpen. Judging from the fact that Garcia is suddenly asking everyone what happened and Hotch — oh god Hotch is watching you having a tearful outburst — is out of his office, you knew that you had attracted everyone’s attention.
You couldn’t really tell whether it was mortification, or guilt, or just overall your hormones messing with your head, but you started to cry harder. Violent sobs wrecked through your body, and suddenly you’re engulfed in Emily’s embrace. Morgan looked even more alarmed with your violent sobs, wrecking his head to find a word to say.
“It’s alright. Hey, hey, hey, look at me,” Morgan gently placed his hand atop yours, coaxing you to look at him. You lifted your head to meet his eyes, and a pang of guilt punched your chest at the gaze he sent you. “It doesn’t matter, it’s okay. It’s just a cake.”
The concerned stares he gave you knocked out the air out of your lungs. You knew he was genuine with his words, but it had upset you even more knowing he probably felt guilty for making you cry in the middle of a bullpen. You felt like a child, and you were angry with yourself.
Morgan blinked, again, didn’t know what to do. To be really frank, he didn’t care about the cake one bit. He didn’t mind if anyone ate his cake at all. But all of his effort to comfort you seemingly only made you more upset and he really was at the end of his wit.
“What’s going on?” Spencer, like a knight in shining armor that he is, showed up just right in time. His eyes widened at the sight of you crying in Emily’s arms, and immediately made his way towards you. He shot a glare towards Morgan who immediately raised his hand to the air in surrender.
You immediately threw yourself into his embrace, couldn’t really bring yourself to care and remind yourself that you’re in the middle of a professional setting surrounded by your coworker. Spencer rubbed your back soothingly and gently rocked your body back and forth as you cried into his shirt. You mumbled something incoherently into his shirt as you sobbed.
“Sweetheart, what was that?” Spencer gently pushed himself away to take a better look towards your face. You glanced up to see him through your wet eyelashes, frowning at worry plastered all over his face.
“I ate Morgan’s cake,” you said again through your tears. “I didn’t mean to. It was the baby, I swear.”
You could feel Spencer stiffened underneath your arms as you said that, but you realized a little too late after a long silence fell and everyone stared at you with a wide eye. You swore somebody could drop a pin and it could be heard clearly.
“I—” you opened your mouth but then closed it again, more to address your wide-eyed husband rather than anyone in the room. You swore you could spot some hidden amusement and wonder behind those eyes, and suddenly you felt absolutely annoyed.
“I’m sorry,” Garcia was the first one who broke the silence. “Did you say baby?”
You took a quick glance towards Spencer. He just smiled and shrugged and you caught JJ quietly turned around and walked towards her desk to hide a smile and suppress a laughter. Well, the cat is finally out of the bag at last. All it took was one meltdown over a piece of cake.
“Uh… surprise?”
“What the hell,” Emily let out a snort of laughter. You shot her a glare that did nothing but made her laugh even harder, shaking her head as she draped an arm around your shoulder. “That was one hell of a dramatic way to announce your pregnancy. I really appreciate it, I always know you’re my best friend for a reason. Congratulations.”
“Oh my god! Ohmygod we’re having another baby!” Garcia squealed. “Congratulations. I love you, even though you hid it from us this long!”
You grinned at Garcia as she pulled you and Spencer into a hug. “Thank you.”
Hotch gave you a long look. “I am really happy for you both. Congratulations, but next time, please refrain from having a dramatic announcement,” he said sternly, although you swore you caught his lips twitching.
After many rounds of congratulations from everyone, the initial crowd that gathered dissipated and soon it returned into another normal day in FBI’s Quarter. Still, you couldn’t help but to notice Morgan keep staring at you with a mixture of awe and wonder.
“Is that why you yelled at me once when I was wearing my perfume? Even though I have been using it for years?” Morgan asked you with a voice thick with awe. You started to blushed furiously as the memory of you lashed out on him at the overwhelming smell of his perfume started to fill your head. “I should’ve known! But I just took it as you having a hangover.”
“I’m sorry, your perfume makes me nauseous,” you muttered meekly as your eyes glaring holes into your paperwork in order to avoid his eyes.
Morgan just laughed out loud. Glad that he found humor in your struggle. “Just keep in mind that Derek is a nice name for a baby boy.”

I am once again hitting up your ask box to ask for fic
Can i pwease get selkie jask🥺👉👈
Cheese... As always, sorry this took a fucking age? I hope you like it? And just in time for Monster March!!! <3 <3 <3
There had always been something about Jaskier that set Geralt on edge. But not in the way that he was used to. The way he would smile so easily even when Geralt was gruff and unrelenting left him disarmed and at ease. But it was also the way that there were nights when the moon was high and Jaskier couldn’t seem to find sleep that Geralt’s medallion seemed to buzz with a low but urgent hum. Those nights the smell of brine and sun and sawgrass was nearly chokingly strong, rolling off of Jaskier in waves stronger than a riptide.
Magic. What kind, Geralt could never figure out. There had been something about the way Jaskier wore his heart on his sleeve that made it feel like there was so little the bard would actually hide from him, but this one thing. Maybe there was siren blood in him after all, maybe it was fae? But no matter what it was, Geralt wasn’t about to send Jaskier away for something he couldn’t definitively prove. And even if he could, would he?
They were near Oxenfurt, summer coming to an end and Geralt watched with interest as every so often, Jaskier’s head would pop up from where he sat around their campfire, looking westward. The way he tilted his chin as though someone had called his name.
“What are you doing?” Geralt asked. He kept his tone light, his own eyes following Jaskier’s gaze west.
“Hmm,” was all he got, Jaskier not turning to look at him, his eyes focused on the line of trees across from him. It took him by surprise, their sudden unexpected role reversal. He chuckled.
“Jask!” Geralt set down the armor he was cleaning, waving a cloth in front of Jaskier’s face.
“Ah! Right, sorry. Got lost in thought for a moment,” he turned to look at Geralt, his eyes still glazed over with that lost look. “You know, my home isn’t too far from here.”
“Oxenfurt is just a day’s ride. Have someone waiting for you?” Geralt teased but the idea of Jaskier having someone that could pull him away from the path they traveled together made his tone more accusatory than he had intended.
“No, not…” Jaskier’s eyes wandered back west again as he fidgeted. “Geralt, I need-” he licked his lips as if he was ready to say something.
Geralt’s medallion gave a soft hum where it rested against his skin, warmer than it had been. There was nothing here to fight, only Jaskier, face flushed from sitting too close to the fire, his white linen shirt clinging to him slightly in the late summer heat. The nights wouldn’t be cool for another few weeks and they wouldn’t part for a few weeks after that if the snows held off. Or maybe.
Whatever it was that Jaskier wasn’t saying hung between them in the slight vibration of low magic and crickets.
“Come with me to the coast? There’s something I need to take care of,” Jaskier was suddenly on his feet, striding with unsure steps to his bedroll, his hands wringing in front of him. The magic stopped and Geralt watched as Jaskier turned his back on where he had been watching. He could see it for what it was, an offer to an answer of a question neither of them had been brave enough to ask. Not yet.
“Could be some contracts that way,” Geralt mused, reaching for his sword to clean next.
If he hadn’t been a witcher, if his sight hadn’t been so keen and had he not been already so attuned to Jaskier, he might have missed it. They had been traveling together for what must have been well over a decade now, and never once had Geralt seen Jaskier pull away from him not even remotely. In the fading daylight, it was hard to miss now. The moment Geralt wrapped his hand around the hilt of his sword, Jaskier had flinched away.
He made no comment, only letting the sword rest back against the log as he changed tactics, reaching instead for another piece of his armor to clean. He couldn’t seem to catch Jaskier’s eyes as the bard finally settled down into his bedroll, turning over so his back was to Geralt.
There had always been something about Jaskier that had put Geralt on edge, the smell of sea salt and warm sand and kelp that always surfaced, even with all the oils and perfumes he would soak himself in. A kind of worry gripped him, a beginning of an end to the unsaid things between them. Geralt waited patiently for him to drift off, keeping an ear open for the steady even breaths that came when Jaskier slept. Only then did he reach for his swords to clean them.
Silently he prayed to whatever deity would hear him that he would not find reasons to draw them when they reached the coast.
--
It had been an easy kind of journey, a day to Oxenfurt then another few days to the coast proper. Once they had left the last village behind, Jaskier led the way, keeping always a few strides out front, his fingers nervously tweaking out half conscience tunes on his lute, barely paying attention to anything other than moving onward. Geralt found that there were moments of unending chatter and then complete silence.
The last night that they camped, the trees had become pine and the grass was rough under Geralt’s hands as he gathered wood for the fire. Jaskier sat quietly by his bedroll, his eyes brighter than they had been in what felt like weeks. He moved his jaw every now and again as though he was trying to find the words to say but the most Geralt could get out of him was broken off sentences and hesitant glances.
“Do you always kill the monsters?” He asked finally, setting aside his quill and lacing his fingers together in front of him, thumbs twirling anxiously.
“Only the dangerous ones,” Geralt said quietly. He had made sure not to reach for his swords in front of Jaskier since that night he had asked to go to the coast, afraid that the answers would slide away like the tide.
“Oh, and how do you know when they’re not dangerous?” It had been a conversation they had had before, but then Jaskier had been less pensive, more chatty, taking notes for his ballads. Now his eyes barely looked up from the fire.
Above them, the moon hung heavy and full, silver catching in Jaskier’s dark hair and casting his features into ethereal shadows where the firelight did not quite reach. Geralt risked moving a little closer, using the poking the fire as pretense before sitting beside Jaskier.
“What are we doing here, Jaskier?” He wasn’t accusatory or flippant. There had been answers that he needed and he wasn’t sure what the right ones would be.
Jaskier sat very still, his tongue darting out for a moment. “You know I trust you?”
It wasn’t what Geralt had been expecting. Hell, it wasn’t something he had even really knew needed saying, not out loud. But they sat there, the words hanging between them like a door that would either be thrown wide open or slammed shut and locked forever.
Jaskier chuckled, looking away. “I… Can you trust me, Geralt?” He looked over then, his eyes seeming endlessly blue just then, and so full of something that tugged at Geralt’s chest. He only nodded and let the night slip into an easy quiet between them.
“Fall isn’t too far off at this point. It will be winter before you know it.” It felt so off-balance, Geralt being the one to keep breaking the silence between them. “Unless you have an engagement in Oxenfurt already lined up, I was wondering if you might-”
Jaskier made a choking sound, his head whipping around to look at Geralt. “Wait!” There was panic in his voice as his hands came up as if to protect himself.
It wasn’t hard to scent in the air, the sharp sting of fear and anxiety, Jaskier’s heart hammering behind his ribs. His eyes looked wild and it took Geralt a moment not to pull back himself.
“Wait,” Jaskier took a shaky breath, swallowing. “There’s… Before you ask anything of me, let’s get down to the beach tomorrow. And then-” He looked down, pulling his hands towards his chest. The fear was gone but the anxiety only seemed to grow. It spelled of kelp in the sun and cold oceans in a storm. “Then you can decide if you still want to ask.”
“Jaskier-”
“Not here, witcher. Let me get to the shore first?” It wasn’t uncommon for Jaskier to ask things of Geralt but it was rare that they felt this important, this urgent.
The sound of the fire and the crickets and the ocean far down the hill were the only sounds between them after that. Jaskier after a time made a murmured good night and slipped into his bedroll without another word. Geralt tried to ignore the sharp scent of salt that came from him, different than the ocean, deeper, tinged in everything that made up Jaskier. He doubted either of them slept much that night.
--
Geralt must have drifted off at some point, however. When he woke up early, the sun was barely up, the fire had banked itself overnight and he was alone save for Roach who grazed in the hazy morning light.
“Jaskier?” Geralt called, bolting upright and turning.
“Let me get to the shore first,” he had asked.
He debated with himself for a moment before deciding that he would leave his swords behind him, though Geralt couldn’t quite bring himself to leave the dagger in his boot behind as well. He moved down towards the beach, following the path through the thinning trees.
Something was off the moment he stepped out past the first dune. There in the sand, clothes trailed down to the water, Jaskier’s boots kicked off just at the bottom of the first outcropping of rock. Down the beach, a wall of stone rose above the breakers. It would no doubt have a system of caves throughout it. The last of Jaskier’s things seemed to lead that way.
Geralt followed, wishing that he had in fact brought his swords. His medallion hummed then vibrated, shaking against his chest violently as something broke above the waves just to his right.
A smooth head and wide eyes tilted towards him in the early morning light. The sky above the ocean still dark, the last stars slipping over the far horizon with the last sliver of the moon. The thing in the water moved up to the beach, a large slick body, flippers pushing into the wet sand.
It gave a kind of greeting, nodding at Geralt as it rested in the sand.
He hadn’t seen one in so long, Geralt almost didn’t recognize it as a Harbor seal, it’s pelt dark around its face, fading into a spotted silver coat. He didn’t move, let alone breathe as they watched each other for a long moment.
When the seal began to push up its body contorting unnaturally, Geralt took a step back, automatically reaching for the knife in his boot. Dark eyes watched him and seemed… disappointed suddenly as the body of the seal continued to convulse and shift.
The sun broke above the trees and caught the creature in the face and those eyes suddenly shimmered a bright blue. He couldn’t throw his knife down fast enough as the hood of a cloak fell back from Jaskier’s face, sullen and terrified.
“Well, was worth a shot,” Jaskier gave a wet laugh, pulling his cloak tighter around him.
“You’re a selkie.” Geralt said flatly, his hands coming up to show he had no weapons. “I thought you were a viscount.”
To his surprise, Jaskier snorted, the tension in his shoulders relaxing some as shuffled his feet in the sand.
“I am in fact a viscount and a selkie, on my mother’s side,” he winced. “My father keeps her cloak from her. I just barely managed to-” he swallowed looking down. “Listen, Geralt, I know you plan on going back to Kaer Morhen this winter, and even if you-” he huffed, his hand shooting out from his cloak to rub at the back of his head.
“You need somewhere to hide your cloak.” a decade of unasked questions started to click into place.
“Yes,” Jaskier sighed. “But you don’t have to-”
“And you trust me? A witcher? Jaskier, if something happened to your cloak you-” would be stuck, would die, would never be free again. He left everything to blow away out to sea in the wind.
“I do, I trust you as a man, Geralt. I know what I’m asking,” his eyes were sad and suddenly infinitely vast.
The wind tugged the hem of Jaskier’s cloak, the silvery ends snapping in tune with the crash of the waves. Geralt could see the top of his one thigh peeking between the slick material and suddenly he was far too aware that Jaskier was standing naked in more ways than one on a beach telling Geralt he trusted him with his life.
He pinched the bridge of his nose as he took a steadying breath. “Get dressed bard.” This level of vulnerability left him feeling dizzy with a feeling he wasn’t ready to look at just then.
Before going to collect his clothes, Jaskier closed the distance between them, sliding his cloak from his shoulders, the fabric shimmering in the sunlight as he folded it carefully and rested it over Geralt’s arm.
“Hold this for me?” he asked softly, not meeting Geralt’s eyes. “Keep it safe?”
There was no hesitation in him as Geralt nodded, laying a careful hand over Jaskier’s, still on the cloak. “Always.”

nikokai lantsov: home
hate is spitting out each other’s mouths but we’re still sleeping like we’re lovers.
set during ruin and rising ig?? no spoilers <3 happy reading!
even all consuming contempt could not stop you from crawling into his bed. you hated yourself for it. a part of you though, hidden deep under the suffocating layers of frustration and exhaustion, accepted the inevitable a long time ago.
you used the incessant aching in your calves to justify the decision. his room was steps away while yours was down another floor. the idea of the rickety elevator in the center of the spinning wheel had your stomach turning. you could not trust your overworked body to carry you down the stairs, either.
a single candle burned on top of his coffee table. you caught yourself in the act of shaking your head, having regularly disproven of the rather unsafe habit. you blew it out quietly and moved on but, at this time more than any other, you certainly understood the need for light amidst all of the looming darkness.
he was on his back. although his eyes were closed, you knew better than to assume he was asleep. he always slept on his side—or even on his stomach with his head tucked into your chest. never on his back. much like you knew this, you also knew that he would expect you to pick up on it.
you stripped out of your kefta and almost immediately, the chill in the air seeped through your skin and into your bones. you hung it on the back of the chair adjacent to the vanity—what once belonged to you. you avoided studying any one corner of his room too closely, in fear of the ghost of memories coming back to haunt you.
“c’mere.”
maybe if you belonged to a different order, you could have caught the characteristic shift in his breathing before he produced words. you relied on your silent and careful observation. your heart skipped in your chest—a lucky rock getting three jumps in before it plummeted underwater. then, everything stilled.
every other time you had snuck into your ex-boyfriend’s room—four times in the last two weeks to be exact—you both remained silent. you could not help but keep count. the small action gave you back some of the control you so readily and shamefully relinquished each time you closed his door behind you. you were both smart enough to understand just how much the quiet within itself communicated.
so, when he chose to speak and forgo the expected routine, you nearly jumped. your heart took a moment to remember it’s new place among his. the soft lilt of his voice did not match a tone normally reserved for someone that had broken his heart.
but of course, he had broken yours, as well. with all of the shattered pieces from that damage, it should have come as no surprise that in the hurried cleanup, some of the fragments got swapped. you knew you carried a few pieces of his heart. you might have stuffed them at the bottom of your pockets, hoping to forget they were there, but the weight could never go unnoticed.
“don’t be difficult about it. you’re shivering where you stand.”
there was your ex. maybe, if you were still together, he would have finished his words with calling you love or darling. however, this was not the case. he could no longer even call you his own let alone elaborate on that with an added sentiment.
your eyes did not meet but you knew that mattered little to the surety of his invitation. it nearly embarrassed you, the way his voice bit right into the night. yet, there you were you, poised and ready to climb in next to him and let him warm you under the covers of his duvet.
nikolai hummed as you dropped next to him.
“never delicate with anything.”
“i’ll leave this bed right now.”
the blonde beside you scoffed. your skin shivered as he ran his fingers along your spine, tracing a new pattern all his own. after a moment, you shifted to face him. his blue eyes cut into the night, visible by the trails of moonlight cascading in through his cracked window.
“why talk to me now? touch me?” you mused with all of the playfulness held in your tone and none in your gaze, “you always preferred the quiet and stillness before.”
it almost pained you to watch him equip himself with the armor of carelessness before your eyes—the word almost included because you saw the truth in his eyes. they could never lie to you.
“maybe because it’s the coldest night of the year and despite being your ex, i’m not a dick.”
maybe because i miss you.
all things considered, though, he was right. he was all class. you could not even attribute the quality to the way his parents brought him up. no, nikolai lantsov was the daring flower that chose to bloom among the weeds that filled every crevice of the little palace.
“besides,” he continued to challenge you, “you responded. in fact,” he nudged your leg lightly with his foot, “you’re on me right now.”
you’re on my mind, too.
you shifted uncomfortably under his stare, closing your eyes for a moment. when you opened them again after a pause, you found him studying your face. from the way his curls sprawled onto the pillow sloppily, he had run his hand through them all night.
“i never stopped missing you.” the frailty of his whisper exposed every vulnerable piece of his being.
“nikolai,” you shook your head as you bit your lip forcefully, “stop.”
“no,” he resisted you.
you pushed back the familiar sting behind your irises, “don’t do this. please.” had there not been but a breath between the two of you, your final word would have been lost to the late hours of the night.
“i should have fought for you then,” nikolai built on, “and saints i’m so damn sorry i didn’t.”
“you can’t,” you took a much needed breath, “you can’t put all of that on yourself. we were on a path to destroying each other more than we already had.”
he hated how much it sounded like you had given up.
you blinked quickly, moving to press the palms of your shaking hands to your wet eyes. he caught your wrists halfway, shaking his head. you noticed his eyes had begun to shine with tears, as well. his thumbs caught yours but he held onto his own.
“please.” his voice strained, “saints, please.”
“we’d be so selfish to do this, nikolai,” you spoke, “there is so much more that needs our attention.”
“and what if there’s nothing left after this?” he questioned with an alarmingly sharp tone, “none of it is worth anything if i can’t find my way home to you after,” his voice broke from rising an octave and he sighed before dropping his gaze, “if there’s even an after.”
fright beat the doors to your heart down. ever confident nikolai had not hesitated to express his doubts. you figured everyone harbored a fair share of them but you certainly had not expected him to be the one to let them break his facade down.
your expression grew more solemn. you felt the weight of the bags under your eyes. everything the two of you carried for each other now became yours alone. the burden grew heavier with each fleeting day.
“because i hope you know you are my home,” the fervor in words did not lose itself on you, “and i am so incredibly lost without you.”
cautiously and with the care of a gentle breeze, he pushed a strand of hair behind your ear. you sucked in a breath, eyes fluttering closed at the gentle contact of the man who had once loved you unlike any other. perhaps, he still loved you.
he did.
“can i kiss you?”
the tension in the room thickened. if asked, you would swear up and down that it was to blame for the way you curled into him. his strong arms molded against your back, trailing his lips up your neck. teasing without touch.
“you’re delicate with everything,” you whispered, allowing him a glimpse at your smile and saints was he left greedy for more.
his one arm fell to cradle your jaw and the other found the spot right above your rib cage. you leaned into his touch, letting him place his lips on yours and his heart back into your hands. you were home.

Seeing Red-Technoblade
This is a Techno x gn!reader in the dreamsmp! I hope you enjoy!
Check out my masterlist here!
This is extremely different from what happens in cannon lol.
TW: Fighting and descriptions of blood and gore. Techno literally slices up four people. There is nothing too NSFW but Techno and Y/N do take a shower together, but nothing really sexual happens, it’s just a shower shared by two peeps that love each other.
When Y/N gets kidnapped by the Butcher Army to lure their boyfriend to L’Manberg, Technoblade sees red and is willing to do anything to get them back… Anything.
Techno’s POV
It was quiet around the house… Too quiet. Normally, I would always be able to hear Y/N moving around or singing randomly, but there was nothing. “Y/N?” I called out, hoping to get some form of response from them. Silence. “Love?” I tried once more, moving around hoping to find them. Nothing.
A pounding on my front door startled me out of my focus. Maybe that was them! Why would they be knocking though, they live here… I swung the door open and was greeted with the sight of my father, who seemed to be out of breath, on my front step. “Dadza?” I questioned in confusion, “What are you doing here?” “They have them,” He breathed. I felt my blood run cold and my heart stop at his words. “What?” “They have them… The Butcher Army has Y/N,” He rushed out, taking a deep breath, trying to calm himself down. “They gave me this note to give to you.” I snatched the piece of paper from my fathers hands and quickly scanned the words scrawled on the parchment.
“Technoblade, something of yours seems to have fallen into our possession. If you want them back safely, we suggest you come to L’Manberg and turn yourself into us. If you follow our orders, no harm will come to Y/N. But if you refuse, there will be hell to pay and your partner will take the full front of it. Signed, The Butcher Army.”
I felt my blood boil at the words written on the piece of paper. How dare they? How dare they threaten my Y/N? Coming after me is one thing. But going for my innocent partner, that’s crossing a line. “Stay here,” I barked at my father before storming out of the house. Luckily, I had all of my OP armor and weapons on me considering I was in the nether doing… things… Doesn’t matter. Point is, I quickly saddled up my trusty horse Carl and immediately began galloping off to L’Manberg.
Carl seemed to sense my urgancing because the trip took half the amount of time that it normally does. Once I was in the vicinity, I hopped off of Carl and tied him up just far enough away so that no one would be able to see him. I rushed up the Prime Path to the center of L’Manberg and was sick to my stomach at what I found. Y/N, my Y/N was trapped in a small cage with a tall tower built next to it, an anvil looming over the cage. Rage filled every inch of my body as their bloodshot eyes met mine.
“Techno!” I heard them whisper in relief. “Technoblade!” I heard another voice call. I turned slowly and found Tubbo, Ranboo, Fundy, and Quackity standing in the ‘area’ as well dressed in bloody aprons, sick smiles on their faces. “I knew you would make the right choice” Tubbo claimed, everyone taking a few steps forward. “I’m here. Let Y/N go.” I hissed, my teeth clenched tightly. “Oh we will. But only after you comply, get in the cage.” Quackity demanded, motioning to the second cage next to Y/N. “That wasn’t the deal. That wasn’t what was in your note.” “Well we’ve changed our minds.”
All of the rage that had built up in my body finally overpowered me. I quickly reeled my fist back and punched the nearest person near me, which just so happened to be Fundy. He reeled back due to the force of the punch. For a moment, the other three froze but then immediately snapped into action. I pulled out my shield and my axe as they charged forward at me. I easily blocked their attacks while dealing out my own damage. I moved with ease, taking very little damage as my axe and sword seemed to slice through the four boys with ease, their dark red blood coating my weapons.
One by one they all fell at my hand, each of the death notifications popped up on my right arm. I stood there, taking deep breaths as I calmed myself down from what had just happened. “Techno!” my partner’s voice called out from behind me. My head snapped over to the cage and I sprinted over to it. Taking one swing with my pickaxe, the iron bars broke and Y/N was released from their prison. I hesitated before hugging them, not sure if they were willing to hug me while I was covered in blood. Y/N had no hesitations, immediately after the bars broke their arms were wrapped around me and they were crying in my chest. My arms wrapped around them, hugging them tightly to my chest and pressing a kiss to the top of their head.
“Let’s go home,” I murmured into their hair. I felt them nod under my head. I pulled away from them and grabbed their hand and led them to where I left Carl. I helped them get on the horse before I hopped on behind them. I wrapped my arms around them and grabbed the reins. Y/N leaned back into my chest and I moved so that my head rested on their shoulder. I gave Carl a soft kick before he began to trot back towards our home.
Carl knew where to go once our house came into view. Once in the stable, I pulled myself from Y/N to get off my beloved horse before helping Y/N off as well. I quickly desaddled Carl before giving him a few pats and a golden carrot. I grabbed Y/N’s hand and led them into the house.
“Oh god! I’m so glad you’re alright! What happened to you guys?” My father questioned as soon as we walked in the house. I let out a small growl in frustration. I love my father but right now I just wanted to spend time with my partner. “I’ll explain later Dadza. Can you just leave us alone right now?” I tried to ask politely, but it probably came out a little more rude than I meant it to. Phil seemed to understand though because he only gave me a soft smile before nodding. He quickly made his way to our front door, “I’ll be over tomorrow then?” He questioned. “Sounds good dad. I’ll see you then.” I responded shortly. “Bye Philza” Y/N murmured with a small wave. Philza gave them another soft smile, waving back, “Bye Y/N. I’ll see you two tomorrow.” And he was gone.
“Let’s go get cleaned up, yeah?” I offered to Y/N softly. They simply nodded with a small smile. I led them to the bathroom and turned on the shower. I helped them undress before unrobing myself as well. Together, the two of us got in the warm water. The deep crimson began running off of our bodies and down the drain. I helped Y/N wash their hair and in return they helped me wash mine. We helped each other wash our bodies as well, making sure to get all of the dried blood off of our red stained skin. As I washed, I wrapped my arms around their middle and just held them tightly to my chest. Their arms snaked up and wrapped around my neck, one of their hands resting gently in my pink hair and they began to play with it softly.
We stood there together for quite a while, just enjoying the warm water as it washed over our bodies. As the dirt and grime fell from our bodies, the rage and the tension fell from my body inside. Y/N seemed to always have this effect on me. Whenever I could feel myself growing angry and the voices in my head scream for blood, Y/N simply has to look at me and the voices fall silent. They’re my eye of the hurricane.
A chill ran up my back as I noticed the water had finally gone cold. Pulling away from Y/N, I quickly turned off the water and got out of the shower, offering my hand to my partner and helping them out as well. I pulled a couple towels out of our cabinet before slowly and gently dragging the towel over Y/N’s body, drying them off. I finished drying their body and quickly dried mine as well.
We moved to our bedroom to get clothes. Y/N moved to go to their dresser, but my hand found their wrist causing them to stop. “No. Here.” I uttered walking to my own dresser and pulling out some of my more comfortable clothes. Y/N had no objections. They took the clothes and quickly dressed. After getting dressed myself, I turned and was awestruck at the sight. Obviously I’m bigger than Y/N and so my clothes are a lot bigger as well. The sight of my partner draped in my clothes caused my heart to hammer in my chest.
“You are the most beautiful sight anyone could ever lay their eyes upon,” I murmured, staring deeply at Y/N. They turned and met my eyes, their cheeks blushed a bright red at my compliments. “You’re too sweet,” they squeaked, trying to turn away and hide their face. I took a few steps forward before reaching forward and cupping their cheek, turning their head to face me. “No need to hide from me darling. I know you better than anyone has known you. I love you so much,” I hummed, staring in their eyes. Their cheeks seemed to burn brighter but they nuzzled their cheek into my palm, “I love you too… Can we go to sleep now?” I let out a small chuckle, “Of course we can love.”
Together we crawled into bed. I opened my arms and Y/N immediately crawled into my arms, snuggling their face into my chest. I pulled them as close to my body as I could. I heard Y/N let out a content sigh as we laid there. “I’m so sorry that happened today, love.” I spoke, breaking the silence. I felt their shoulders rise and fall as they shrugged, “It happens. I wasn’t too worried. I know you’ll always be there to save me.” Y/N mumbled sleepily in my chest. I tilted my head down and pressed a sweet kiss to the top of their head. “That I will, love. That I will.”
I never know how to end things lol. I hope you enjoyed! If you did please be sure to leave a like!

Unexpected Matrimony
Pairing: Captain Rex x reader
Word Count: ~1.9K
Tags: NSFW, slow-burn-ish (familiar with each other before the story), marriage for the mission, Rex sucks at flirting, reader teases the shit out of him, both are oblivious, PiV (wrap it up in rl), cum outside (whoa I know), some dom energy from Rex, not edited because this got rewritten three times already
A/N: Kinda find Rex hard to write, not being he's not amazing but because I feel like his character is a little more complex emotionally than some of the other clones? (I feel the same way about Echo, I'd love to write him but shit there's so many facets) idk either way - enjoy
Story below the cut
“So how’s it feel being the only clone trooper to be legally married?” You giggle, taking a sip of wine.
You had no idea why you and Rex getting married was so important to the mission but Anakin seemed pressed that you would say no. So much so that he didn’t tell either of you until Ahsoka let it slip on the ride here. While initially annoyed, you enjoyed Rex’s shocked face way too much.
“What the matter Captain? The idea of marrying me that appalling?” You elbowed him in the ribs, earning a hearty laugh from his crew.
He didn’t respond but looked even more flustered at your jesting. Well, there were certainly worse men in the Republic to be forced to marry than him.
Rex’s nervous chuckle brought you back to the moment.
“I have to admit, I never thought that would be something I experienced.” He rubbed the back of his head like he did when nervous.
Since when did you know that? You caught yourself. Being friends with Anakin and Padme meant you got more face time with the 501st than normal civilians so you and Rex weren’t strangers. You’d even accompanied them to 79s on more than one occasion. But Rex, while there, had always hung back a bit while you were there. Or at least that’s what his team told you.
Now it was just the two of you sitting in a honeymoon suite on some planet you’d never been to before while Anakin and the rest of the squad were traipsing around completing the mission. Maybe afterward he’d actually explain why you two were just sitting here. Surely Rex would be more useful helping out or at least happier than he seemed to be in your presence.
“Still bummed that it had to be me?” You circled back to your earlier joke.
Rex glanced up at you, his brown eyes searching your face. His face was hard to read, probably got plenty of practice with a general like Anakin.
“I definitely didn’t imagine it being you. But I wouldn’t consider that a bad thing.” His voice trailed off as he spoke, you almost couldn’t hear the last part.
“Aw well, I’m glad I’m not a complete letdown.” You laughed, happy to see you earned another blush from the man. “I guess the guys will never let you hear the end of this, huh?”
“I don’t mind. I get to rub it in their faces if anything.” Rex mumbled into his drink, a pink tint still coloring his face.
You giggled, biting your lower lips as you watched him. The muscle in his jaw was tensed as he swallowed, the tip of his tongue flicking across his lips. For a clone, he was so distinct and not just from the blond hair. The way he held himself was different, you’d noticed it the second you met him and he hadn’t disappointed since. You found her eyes dipping lower, enjoying the new sight of him without the top pieces of his armor on.
“You’re staring.” Rex’s voice brought you back to reality yet again.
“I can’t help it, you’re pretty good-looking you know.” You smirked, lifting your glass back up to your lips.
“You’re one to talk.” He chuckled. “You ever wonder why the boys are always inviting you out?”
You scoffed with a giggle, “here I thought it was because of my impeccable sense of humor.”
“I mean, you’re so much more than beautiful,” there was the neck scratch again. “You really haven’t noticed their flirting?”
You paused, considering the question.
“Nope, I just assumed they’re like that with all women.” You giggled, pausing a moment.
Maybe you should just go for it. What’s the harm? The poor guy was already married to you.
“To be honest I was probably watching you more than listening to them.” You feigned a cough before taking another sip of your drink.
Rex’s head snapped up.
“Why is that?”
“I told you, you’re a handsome guy.” You giggled.
Rex glanced back down at the floor for a second before standing from where he was leaning. Your eyes followed him, watching the way he moved toward you the way he always did. Shoulder’s back, spine straight, chin up. He paused in front of you before holding out a hand.
You took it without hesitation, allowing yourself to be pulled to your feet curious what he was up to. Maybe the impassive face wasn’t such a good thing. At least to you.
Rex inhaled sharply, this was the closest you’d been to him besides the wedding ceremony. He smelled like the military issue soap you’d come to associate with the troopers and you could catch a whiff of the whiskey he’d been drinking, a wedding gift from Anakin. Or a condolence gift, who knew with him.
“I’d like to kiss you if you’re not opposed,” Rex spoke formally, previous relaxed chatter seemed to be forgotten.
You paused for a moment, surprised at the sudden forward approach. Never once before did you think he would ever be genuinely interested in you. Especially after his teams’ comments about him being standoffish whenever you were around.
Rex’s blank face faltered, it was only a second but you saw the momentary collapse in confidence.
Fuck it.
You reached up, grabbing his shoulders before pushing your lips against his. He didn’t move for a second, seemly surprised by your actions. After a moment you felt arms circle your waist and pull you closer against his chest. You melted into the embrace, feeling the sinewy muscle through his blacks.
He reluctantly pulled away, eyes soft as he stared into yours.
“Why’d you stop?” You asked quietly, eyes flicking between his searching for an answer.
His lips crashed back into yours making your heart leap in your chest. A hand went to the back of your head, fingers knotting in your hair as his lips moved against yours. You looped your arms around his neck both of you pulling each other into yourselves.
Rex’s hands went to your thighs, lifting them so you could circle your legs around his waist. You paid no mind as he moved, just focused on his mouth as his tongue danced with yours.
Suddenly he broke away and dropped you onto the bed in the middle of the room. You gazed up at the captain to see him staring back with an adoring gaze that you had never seen before, not that you were complaining.
“I don’t know where you got the idea that I don’t like you.” Rex spoke in a husky tone. “But hopefully this clears that up.”
He leaned down and caged you down to the bed with his body, lips back on yours. You could feel your lips becoming raw from the attention but you didn’t want it to stop. It wasn’t long though before he moved to kiss down your jaw then neck to your shoulder where he bit down gently, sucking at your soft flesh.
You could feel the heat pool between your legs, your hands moving to his back as you moan. He bit down a little harder and you dug your nails into his back. The rumble of his groan could be felt against your skin before he moved to continue trailing kisses down between your breasts to your navel. You mentally cursed the dress that you were wearing, it was going to take way too long to get it off and you did not want to wait that long.
Rex on the other hand didn’t seem to mind as he reached for your calf, hand moving up your leg and under the dress skirts before stopping right above your knee. His eyes met yours again, unspoken question hanging in the air.
And then his comm rung.
“You have got to be kidding me,” you blurted out, sexual frustration clouding your mind.
Rex chuckled before reluctantly getting up and retrieving the device from where his armor was. He walked back over to where you were, now sitting up.
“General Anakin?” Rex answered.
“Hey Rex - sorry for ditching you two, we needed a convincing cover for being planet-side. Are you two both still alive?”
You could hear hushed laughter in the background, gazing up at Rex you could see his face starting to flush again. He was so lucky color didn’t show well over holo or else he’d never hear the end of it.
“Yes sir.” He answered curtly, eyes darting down to look at you with a hint of a smile on his face.
“Good, we’ll be back in about a half-hour to get you guys. Hang in there.” Anakin said before signing off.
Both of you stood in silence for a moment before you smirked and stood up next to him.
“I don’t know about you but I think that means we still have some time to kill.”
Rex reached around your back to unlace the back when you pushed him down onto the bed. He looked up at you with an arched brow.
“Still not enough to get this thing off,” your smirk remaining on your face as you move to straddle his waist.
His eyes widened momentarily before returning your smirk and pulling you into another bruising kiss. You moved your hips just enough for him to be able to push the waistband of his blacks down before you felt his hard cock press against your damp panties. His fingers pushed the fabric aside as you reached down to guide his cock.
You could feel your own blush crawling along your cheeks as you watched Rex’s face. His eyes were hungry as they locked between your legs as you sat on his cock, he moaned and dropped his head back onto the bed as you bottomed out. Moving your hips slightly earned another loud groan from him emboldening you to set a slow teasing pace.
Suddenly he gripped your hips before sitting up so your bodies were flush against each other again.
“We don’t have time for that mesh’la and I’m not leaving here until I feel you cum on my cock.” His hips gyrating into yours, making sure to hit every sensitive spot inside you.
His hand went to your clit as you rode him, the heat coiling quickly in your belly. You could hear him murmuring in Mando’a as your pussy clenched around him, the tension threatening to snap.
Rex’s comm rang again.
You paused, beyond frustrated.
“I didn’t say stop mesh’la,” Rex growled, hips snapping up into you again encouraging you to keep going.
“But Skyw-” You started before Rex grabbed the back of your head, pulling your face to his in a searing kiss.
The tension building snapped and you felt your orgasm wash over you like a wave, your legs shaking from the force. Rex pushed his hips up into you twice more before pulling you off him, ropes of cum spilling down his cock as you two panted.
Rex moved you to his side as he got up and grabbed the comm, yet again, slipping his cock into his pants before answering.
You didn’t bother to eavesdrop this time, laying back on the bed letting the blissed-out feeling numb your senses. Soon Rex was standing over you, a genuine smile on his face.
“It’s time to go mesh’la.” His voice was soft, as he stroked your still exposed thigh.
You smiled back, sighing deeply. “One more kiss?”
Rex chuckled, grabbing your hand to help you stand. He pressed his forehead against yours before placing a soft kiss on your lips.
“There will be plenty more later mesh’la."

Renegade
Relationship: Din Djarin x Reader Warnings: N/A Summary: [based off the song Renegade by Big Red Machine feat. Taylor Swift] You're a shopkeeper in a remote corner of the galaxy just trying to get by. For some reason, every now and then a certain Mandalorian pops into town. He comes and goes as he pleases until one day you finally get the courage to confront him on his drifter habits. Unexpected confessions spill out. A/N: I haven’t written something for The Mandalorian in a long time but i just had this idea for a while and i wanted to actually try to execute it. Idk if this came out good but i think it’s still sweet. I hope someone enjoys it :)
Masterlist
You never knew when he was coming into town.
It would happen pretty much in the blink of an eye. You’d shut down your store for the day, retire to your home, then he’d be there, in the middle of the village, bright and early. The Mandalorian kept no schedule it seemed but his surprise visits were always welcomed by you.
He’d make it a point to stop at your store first. He never really bought anything, just browsed the fabric and clothing you had to offer. The Mandalorian seemed to appreciate your craftsmanship, always taking time on his stay to ask about your newer items or what your plans were for your next collection. Your shop was modest but it helped bring in some kind of income which was very valuable as the fate of the galaxy hung in limbo.
You built up some kind of rapport with the masked man but feelings have been shifting within you for a while. You didn’t really understand how it was possible. You had begun falling for a man that never even gave you the courtesy of saying goodbye. But at the same time, the hours you would spend chatting meant everything to you. It felt so good to confide in someone as a life as a solo storekeeper could be quite a lonely one. He also seemed to be no stranger to loneliness as a man roaming the galaxy, taking odd bounty jobs. Nowhere to really call his own.
A deep, deep part of you wished he would call this village his home. He seemed to enjoy it here, evident by his numerous stops. When he’d come and go from your shop, he was always bringing back new treasures. The woman down the road would be testing a new stew recipe or the jewelry maker at the end of the block had talked him into buying something. Most of the time, he’d just give the items to you, claiming he couldn’t resist the shopkeeper but had no use for the trinkets. The pseudo-gift giving was a little ridiculous to you but it couldn’t help but fuel your burning crush. You always accepted and wore whatever the Mandalorian presented.
Yes, you two definitely had formed a relationship over time. You didn’t know really what to call it and you two never seemed to want to speak about it but it was no secret that it was there, and you were a bit thankful for it. No matter where he had gone or how long he had left for, you were always there to welcome him back to the village with open arms.
As many times before, the Mandalorian arrived unexpectedly one beautiful, clear morning. He was hovering around your shop, seemingly waiting. His armor shined so loudly in the daylight, it was nearly blinding, but you appreciated how powerful he was. He may show you his soft side in the village but you’d heard plenty about his hunts. If the truth was even half as alarming as the gossip, you were impressed he could have such a gentle side.
“You’re early,” you called out, pulling your shawl tighter around you as you walked towards the passing bounty hunter. He stopped dead in his tracks upon hearing your voice.
“It would appear I am,” he said, letting out a breathy laugh. “I’m sorry, I didn’t realize the time.”
You came to stop right in front of him. You peered up at his helmeted face. You certainly couldn’t see anything through that insane gear but some part of you still felt him staring into your eyes, deeply. Instinctively, you fiddled with the necklace resting on your lower neck. The charm was a piece of some dark crystal. You didn’t know what it was and you were slightly too nervous to inquire the jewelry maker about it but the Mandalorian standing before you had given it to you the last time he was here. He simply said he thought it would look nicer on you. You didn’t ask anymore.
“It’s alright,” you smiled. “I’m just glad to see you back here in one piece.”
He seemed a bit taken back by that. You worried you had overstepped the boundary between flirting and kindness but then he tilted his head, curiously. “Yeah?”
Oh, you felt yourself blushing a bit. You ducked your head and stepped around him, beginning to work on the lock of your shop.
“Yeah,” you shrugged and opened the door. The Mandalorian followed closely behind. “I’ve heard your work can be demanding. Lots of opportunities for you to get hurt.”
“Does that worry you?”
You stopped in front of the pile of new fabrics you had just woven. You sighed. “I’ve come to think of us as a little bit more than acquaintances. It’s normal to worry about others.”
You swore you heard him let out a low chuckle at that but he didn’t acknowledge it. Or your statement. You chose to do the same. You walked around to the counter and began prepping the logbooks for the day. The Mandalorian continued to hang around, gaze and hands roaming the new pieces you had set up last night. You were hoping this new collection you were previewing was going to bring in some hefty credits. Maybe allow you to take a holiday.
The Mandalorian broke the tense silence with the most unexpected comment. “I worry about you too, you know.”
Your finger stopped abruptly as it scanned your list of sales for the week. When you had offered your care, you had never expected it back. You two technically weren’t on that level, at least not verbally. In other formats of gift-giving and worried looks, it was a different story.
“You worry about me?” You inquired, brows raised in surprise.
He gave a very Mandalorian-like shrug, his gaze still fixated on your for-sale items. Something in you was crushed when it looked like you weren’t getting any more from him. Maybe he’d disappear tonight, embarrassed by this exchange. But then by some miracle, he spoke again.
“Of course,” he said it like it was so obvious. “You’re a very kind shopowner living out in this village alone. This galaxy, no matter what corner you hide in, can be dangerous.”
You smiled to yourself. “I’ve done this for many years, Mandalorian. I think I will be alright.”
He hummed in acknwoeldgement. “I’m sure,” he mumbled. “But can you blame me for having concerns?”
This conversation sure was going to a funny place, you thought, but you were along for the ride. If he was going to talk about concerns, you could for sure rattle off yours. He was worried about your safety in this little village while you worried for his health. It cannot be good for a human, assuming he was human under all that gear, to be wandering the galaxy with no rhyme or reason besides the bounties strung about this galaxy. You never thought you’d express these things to him but the Mandalorian appeared to be a talkative one today. And you felt you two were beyond strangers.
“Well, I’m flattered you think of me,” you admitted. “But I fear it’s you who faces more dangers than me.”
The helmeted man gave a little scoff at that comment. “Nothing I can’t handle.”
Sure, you didn’t doubt that, but that wasn’t what was on your mind. “I’m not talking about bounty hunting. I’m talking about your habit of being a drifter.”
The words didn’t feel very impactful in your brain but when they hit the open shop it was like you had dropped a bomb. The Mandalorian stilled, his gloved hand letting go of one of the scarves you had laying on a table. He began making his way suddenly towards where you still stood behind the counter. You frowned.
“A drifter?”
His eye gaze wasn’t seen but it was sure felt. You shrugged. “I’m not a fool. I know you bounce around from planet to planet throughout this galaxy. Maker knows why you keep coming back here but... I just worry you don’t have a home-,”
“I don’t,” he confirmed. Your heart all about stopped. Well, you didn’t exactly want to be right.
“Oh,” you said, averting your eyes to the wood counter. “And that doesn’t bother you? You must want someone waiting for you. Someone to just spend...moments with.”
“Don’t I have you?”
The question hung in the air between you two like a heavy pendulum. You couldn’t believe what you were hearing. He… He thought of you like that? Of this village? But why would he… Oh, but didn’t it make some kind of sense? The reappearing? The coming and going… He waltzed in and tried to get to know everyone. Got to know you.
Your head was a jumbled mess, so much so the only thing you could get out was a soft, “Me?”
The Mandalorian nodded. He wasn’t looking anywhere near you, finding such interest in the wall of your shop. But you noted his stiff stance. Maybe he hadn’t meant to say that… Except he had. And now it was out there. Something in the mysterious bounty hunter made him let out such a grand confession.
“Yes,” he eventually confirmed. “You. This village. I have that. I have this to come back to.”
With thoughts swimming violently, you had to ask, “But why don’t you stay?”
“I have jobs to do.” He almost sounded offended you had asked that. You shook your head.
“N-No, I mean… Get a place for yourself. You’re always sleeping on that ship. Maybe accept the invites to dinners the sweet lady down the path invites you to. Or you and I could…” Your words faded fast, slightly scared of what was going to slip out. But the Mandalorian wasn’t letting it go.
He turned his gaze back to you. “We could what?”
“S-Spend time together or something,” you mumbled. Real smooth, you thought. Just the perfect way to flirt. You expected him to now be so offended, maybe even storm out such a suggestion, but the armored man didn’t move. Instead, he cocked his head, curious.
“You’d want to do that?”
You sighed. “I want you to start a life somewhere. Really start it. Drifting around this galaxy cannot be very promising. You deserve this. You deserve a home, Mando.”
“Din.”
Your brows furrowed. Now it was your turn to be curious. “What?”
“My name is Din,” he explained. “You don’t have to call me Mando.”
If a heart could sing, yours would be a full chorus. He finally told you his name. After collecting jewelry and stories, he had finally opened somewhat to you. That was a good sign, a great sign.
“Din,” you said, testing the name. It rolled off your lips easily. “We’d love to have you around.” A beat. “I’d love it, especially.” It was a bold declaration but he had given you something, the least you could do was make your intentions more obvious.
“Thank you,” Din said.
“Of course,” you shrugged. “We all need to find the place where we belong.”
Din let out a bit of a chuckle. You frowned at that.
“You think I belong here?” He asked, amused.
You didn’t like that he wasn’t taking you seriously but it would be okay. Just gave you more of a reason to show him everything this place had to offer. From the nice shopkeepers to the lovely food. This would be some kind of home for him or at least a place where he’d always be welcomed. Your heart fluttered at the idea of him leaving less, maybe even never leaving. He could train people on fighting or - or…
You had to stop yourself as your brain was getting beyond reality. You shot the Mandalorian a smile.
“I think you’ve always belonged.”

Tw/Cw: Major character death (its 3rd life and a canonical death so its expected) ; drowning (not really drowning but its kinda detailed so just in case)
It's night, hours after the desert battle, hours after Scott saw the death message knowing he wasn't able to be with his husband on his death.
The blood still on his clothes, all the dirt, sand and sweat of the battle still there. He wasn't able to do anything besides building the grave and burying the things that were from Jimmy he couldn't even bury his own husband, the body turned into xp minutes after Scott got there. The stupid captain america costume, the armor and the poppy, the stupid poppy that started it all.
He sat in that mountain for hours, looking and crying over the grave, he heard steps coming towards him. He didnt knew who it was, he didnt care, if it was dogwarts then fuck them what could he do to grieve in peace?
The steps grew louder, stopping right next to him, the black shoes followed by the white tunic answered to him. Joel, the man who burned his their walls, who wasn't there to fight in the conflict he had created.
He was silent, as far as Scott could see, he was looking down, staring at the grave. The only sound was the animals around and the wind. Without looking at him Scott asked, his voice low and heavy, affected by the time he spent crying and screaming.
'Tell me, do you know how it is to have your partner dying and not being able to do anything? To have to watch them disappear right in front of you?' He didn't expected a answer, he didn't even knew why Joel was there, but he didn't had much time to talk about it, he didn't want to talk about it, Grian told him it was ok, that he didn't mind if Scott wanted to talk about it with him or cry on him again. But he didn't, he didn't want to talk or think about it, he didn't want to think of how this place would be so much more silent and would look way more dead, he was fine.
'Yes' - Scott broke out of his head by Joel's words - 'I do yeah, it's not very good is it?' For the first time he looked up, the other man had a sad and bitter smile on his face. It was weird seeing Joel without the chaotic grin on his face, without the fire reflecting on his red eyes, who, Scott noticed, were more grey than ever, like the fire had died.
'What happened?' He asked, curious but also letting Joel know he didn't needed to talk about it, he could have conflict opinions about the red player next to him but he wouldn't force to him about his partner.
'We were running, something, some kinda of creature, was attacking us from the water. We didn't know what it was, but it was trying to get us. She told me to run, she was always a better swimmer than me, the water was always her element. But I couldn't leave her, you know? We both knew that she wouldn't come back, and for me it would always be her over me, at any time, any circumstance. And- and she looked at me' - and he could see how Joel was lost in memories, hoe the look in his eyes was soft, it reminded Scott of himself whenever he looked at Jimmy - 'and she smiled, and god- I don't know how someone could look so beautiful in the middle of swamp water, covered in dirt and in such a messy appearance. But she looked so beautiful and I knew, I knew I couldn't convince her otherwise but even before i tried, just- the second i opened my mouth to try and make her run. It got her, I saw her being pushed underwater, I saw the second her eyes got filled with fear, her hand reaching out to me. And I couldn't do anything, I stayed there and I screamed her name, I wasn't able to swim. I knew if I did that I would die, either to the creature, or I would drown, and- and then if I did that her sacrifice would be for nothing. So I ran away' -he saw how he closed his eyes, took a deep breath and opened them again, Scott wanted to tell him that he could stop if he wanted, that he didn't need to keep going, but he knew Joel needed this- 'I ran away and I got back to our home. I built her a grave. I never knew what happened, I still don't know what happened to her. But- but I just like to think that whatever happened, whenever she is, that shes happy. I put her favorite things there, her flowers, some photos of her favorite buildings. And our ring, I was keeping it, I would ask her that week- I never did, but i like to believe she would've said yes'.
'What- what did you do after that?' Joel smiled, and Scott saw the red player he learned to fear, the fire came back to his eyes at least for a bit.
'I hunted that thing down, I did everything I could, enchanted and got every piece equipment that would give me an advantage on the water. And when I found it? I killed it, I make it suffer for whatever it did to her'.
'Do you believe she is still alive?' And just like it appeared, the fire was over, his eyes got back to the dark red, and he sighed.
'If I'm being honest Scott? No I- I don't think she is, but I don't want to think about this. I also don't want to spend my entire life hoping she's alive too, just to be crushed in the end. So it's as I said, I like to think she's happy, doing her favorite things. And that maybe, maybe one day we'll find each other again'.
Scott stopped, he looked at the grave again, staring at the 'Beloved husband' words, in a shaky calligraphy.
'Did it make you feel better?' he felt Joel looking at him again, he looked up, serious, hands holding the grass aggressively, angrily. 'Killing the creature. Did it make you feel better'.
And he saw the second Joel understood, how he relaxed, how he looked at Scott with a sad smile.
'Yes. Not for long, but on the second? On the minute I did it? I felt like the most powerful person, I killed the thing that haunted my nightmares every night since that day, I avenged her. And after that i felt empty, because she wasn't back, i wouldn't say it was for nothing, but i wouldn't say it was worth every day and night that i spend looking for it'.
'I wont say that killing the red army will make you feel better, that killing Skizz will make everything alright because it wont. Jimmy will not come back Scott' - he looked at the grave again- 'No matter what you do, he will never come back. But I can promise you that for a second, for at least a minute, you will feel relieved. You will feel happy'.
And he didn't even need to think about it twice, or for more than one second. Just the memories of earlier that day, how he wasn't there, how he wasn't even able to help Jimmy when he died. He wants to kill Skizz, he wants to make the red army feel as destroyed as he felt. He wants to make them feel defeated. He's not a red life, he doesn't have the bloodlust the red lives have, but Scott can feel the rage, the anger, and he only wants one thing: revenge. Jimmy was the one who kept him calm, who would make him focus on other things, and now he's gone, forever, and they will pay. Scott will make sure of it.
He looks up to Joel, the yellow rods around his head shining, his eyes carrying the fury of a grieving husband.
'Are you on our side then?' and Joel smiled, blood red eyes lighting with a sparkle, the dangerous smile getting bigger again. He put a hand on his shoulder
  'Down with the king, Scott'
  Down with the king

________________________________
“The kid is finally asleep.”
You let out a relieved sigh upon hearing the words, not turning to the speaker as you continued to work away at the wires in front of you. You had now spent hours in front of this panel of the Razor Crest, working and prying away at the complex set of wires that just never seemed to work right, no matter what you did with them. A small tool was held in your mouth while both of your hands twisted away at them, your neck leaning forward and eyebrows furrowed together in deep concentration. You hadn’t look at yourself, but you were sure you looked like a frazzled mess with your awry hair and glazed eyes from all the staring.
“Good. I couldn’t concentrate with the kids yelling.” you mumbled awkwardly, the tool still clasped between your mouth.
Din let out a small sigh and you would of turned around to face him normally, but you had to keep working. You swore you were so close. Just a few more minutes and you’d probably have it. “You have been going at that all day.”
You heard the concern laced in his voice. Din had known you for far too many years now, enough to know when you were pushing yourself or immersing yourself into something. Much like himself, you were a work hound and while he’d never let someone tell him to relax, he’d always insist doing it to you. You were his closest friend, perhaps his only true one, and he always wanted to keep an eye on you. Make sure you were safe and heathy and staying sane. Instead of stopping, you simply grabbed the tool from your mouth and brought it to the wires as you spoke to him. “I think I’ve almost got it. Just give me a second.”
You finished one last twist of a wire, finally believing you had it in place. A big grin broke out on your face as it appeared to be working as it should. But to your dismay, the wires started to spark and a light burning smell filled the space you were in. “Dank farrik! This piece of kriffing bantha fodder has been messing with me all day!”
Din let an eyebrow raise at your words. You usually were calm but when something like this happened, you’d let it bug you to no end. Out of all his time knowing you, he’d never heard you speak ill of anyone or curse very often, unless it was at some type of machinery or wire that wasn’t working. “You definitely need to stop for the night.” Din said calmly and you finally turned to look at him, face twisted up in utter frustration.
“And let these wires think they bested me? Oh, no way. Not letting these wires win. Not today.” You said, shaking your head emphatically. You were going to solve this problem, no matter the consequence.
“You do realize the wires can’t think?” Din asked, amused by your dramatics but also partially annoyed with your insistence on continuing to work.
“That’s what they want you to think.” You went to turn back to the panel when Dins hand reached out and grabbed the bicep of your left arm, pulling you away from the panel and towards him.
You finally faced him fully and couldn’t help the small smile that quirked your lips as you got a good look at him. You had been with him on the ship all day but you hadn’t gotten a good look at him, being too consumed by the wiring. He wore the same armor as usual and his face way hidden away as always, but you still liked to look at him. Admire the friend that had been by your side for many years now. The friend who cared for you and who you harbored many strong feelings for. “You look exhausted.”
You let your shoulder sag and huffed at him as he looked down at you, hand still holding onto you but now lightly and delicately. “Well, thanks so much sir. Exactly what a person wants to hear.”
“You know what I mean.”
“Oh yes. I’m just some tired looking creature. Probably a horrendous sight.” You let out a small, theatrical sigh as you looked up at Din with a fake pout. At this point, Din was used to your antics but he still let out a sigh.
“You are not a horrendous sight.” Din paused for just a moment, his helmet tilting. “You are beautiful.”
You froze at his words. It wasn’t like Din had never paid you a compliment before, just as you had with him. But never one like this, and never had his voice seemed to waiver as he did so. You felt your face get warm and you tried to look away, but it felt like your eyes were stuck on him. Your heart slammed in your chest as you tried to think of anything to say. This was the man you had been swooning over for longer than you cared to admit and he was calling you beautiful.
In the midst of your silence, Din finally let go and cleared his throat, clearly uncomfortable. “I’m sorry.” he quietly said as he began to drift away from you.
Before your brain could process your movements, you reached out for him quickly and pulled him towards you. “No, no. It’s fine.” You paused as he slowly looked back at you and gave him a soft smile. “You are beautiful, too.”
“You’ve never seen me.” Din responded plainly.
“I don’t need to see your face to see that you.” You told him and you swore you heard his breath hitch in his helmet. You had known him for so long and had learned to read him so well, but right now you felt lost. You reached out for him more, placing one hand on his shoulder, and looking at him. “You, Din Djarin, are beautiful.”
Din’s helmet remained frozen in the spot it was and you worried that you had ruined it. Ruined the delicate balance of the friendship you had. Some moments you thought there was something there, that maybe he shared the same thoughts you did. But you never dared to step over the line and see what would happen. Until now. And now Din was saying nothing and your chest was heaving. You began to pull away but Din grabbed onto your arms, keeping you in place.
“You’re nervous.”
Your eyebrows quirked up at his statement. “W-what?”
“I’ve known you long enough to know when you are nervous.” You shyly looked down at your feet but Din didn’t tear his gaze away from you. “Why?”
Your mind was going so fast and you felt your hands shake in the areas where they rested on Din. “These wires are really getting to me...” you tried to lamely joke but knew it was no use. You let out a sigh. “Din, stop.”
“Stop what?”
“Stop touching me and looking at me like that and saying stuff like this.” You finally let out, looking up at him with an expression that conveyed just how tangled up you were in your own emotions.
“What do you mean?” Din asked, seeming genuinely confused by your words.
“You can’t just call me beautiful and care about me and be so nice to me cause then it makes it so much harder.” You huffed, trying to pull away but Din kept you in place.
“So much harder to do what?”
He was going to get an answer out of you whether you liked it or not. You felt like you wanted to cry or yell at him or you didn’t even know what. You were too nervous to do this. “Din-”
“Tell me.”
“So much harder to pretend I’m not in love with you!” You finally spat out, feeling your nerves reach a breaking point as your eyes drifted away from him. You didn’t want to see or hear his reaction. Hear him tell you no. The silence continued on and Din said nothing to ease your worries. You tried to pull away again only to fail and you grunted. “Let’s just ignore this. We are friends and that is fine. I’m good with being just friends and pretending that-”
“Ni kar'tayl gar darasuum, cyar’ika.”
You had known Din long enough to pick up a few things in Mando’a but you looked up at the Mandalorian completely perplexed. “What does that mean?” you asked, your eyebrows raised as he just looked down at you.
“Close your eyes.”
“Din, what are you-”
“Close your eyes.” Din repeated, a little sterner this time. You hesitantly let your eyes flutter close and Din finally let go of your arms so they could drop to your sides.
You waited for a moment when a hiss and a click rang through the hull of the ship. “Din, did you just take off your helmet?”
You waited for his response, still keeping your eyes clamped shut in case your suspicion was correct. Instead of a verbal response, you heard his boots on the metal floor stepping closer to you and you sucked in a breath. “You are making me nervous. What are-”
“Can you stop talking?” your heart froze as you heard his unmodulated voice. How could it sound even better without the helmet? Still deep and masculine, but a little softer and more Din.
You finally clamped your mouth shut, biting back the urge to ask him once again what he was doing. You almost finally said something after a few moment of silence but any words you had planned to say became trapped when you felt a warmth on your lips. Your brain seemed to short-circuit and it took you a moment to realize it was a pair of lips. Din’s lips. They were warm and a little chapped, but not in an unpleasant way. In fact, it perfectly encompassed him. You realized for a moment you were standing completely still, your body almost rigid. You immediately snapped out of it and move your lips against his, conveying that yes, this is what you wanted.
You let out a small noise of satisfaction as one of Din’s gloved hands reached up for your face, cupping your cheek softly as his lips moved against yours with the same amount of delicacy. You slowly brought a hand up to his neck, letting it travel upwards so it became tangled in the hair that sat at the base of it. It was soft and longer, and you couldn’t see it but you could just tell it was a beautiful brown color.
Din pulled away from you and you almost whined in response, but instead focused on the sound of him breathing in and out. “It meant I love you.” he finally said, and you couldn’t help the big grin the broke out on your face.
Instead of saying another word, you just pulled him back in and let yourself become one.

The Mandalorian Masterlist
»»————- ♡ ————-««
You scrambled about the room as you gathered your few belongings, hastily stuffing them into a bag without care. It didn’t matter in the long run - a few wrinkles weren’t going to be the make or break for you. The fact that your heart felt like it was broken beyond repair was a different story. Pathetic sobs threatened to rock your whole body as tears streamed down your face, dropping onto your tunic and the metal floor of the ship. You wanted to stay...but Maker you just...couldn’t. You’d thought this life was for you, but now, after all that had happened, you realized that it wasn’t for you atl all. There was no way you could keep going on like this.
You couldn’t fathom a whole life with nothing but being on the run, constantly watching your back and jumping from place to place. Things would be calmer now, you knew that, since Grogu was no longer with the two of you, but off with the Jedi that had responded to his call. It had broken your heart to have him go, to be without the little green bean who you had come to call your son, but you knew it was the right thing to do. It had always been the end game. It was painful and hurt, but you knew that eventually that pain would dull, knowing you’d see him again, and he would always be part of your family. You’d be reunited with him one day.
But it still didn’t change the fact that your life wasn’t going to calm down in the slightest. Din Djarin, your husband - and accidental ruler of Mandalore - was a good man, a man with a heart of gold that truly only wanted the best for others. But this...it just never seemed to end. After what seemed like a lifetime of go, go, go, you were ready for some peace, some silence, and a sense of tranquility. He had promised you this; promised that soon you would settle down and start a real home, a family, everything you had wanted. Because he wanted all those things too. Or so he’d claimed.
Things had never changed; and now you weren’t sure if they ever would. Would he want to be the ruler of a once great society? Would he want to build everything back up and have his fellow Mandalorians come out of hiding? And what about you? Would you be his reluctant Queen? You hated how you felt about the whole situation; hated that you didn’t want him to assume more responsibility, hated that you wanted to drag him away from it, hated that you wanted something so different from him.
You’d always made your intentions clear, that you wanted this whole life of bounty hunting and people saving to come to an end. And he had promised. He’d promised you. He always promised. Half of you was tempted to drag him away and force him into the life you wanted...but you could never do that either. It wouldn’t be fair for you to force him to do anything he didn’t want to. Just like it wouldn’t be fair for him to expect the same of you; and you’d never once held back your desires and wants.
“Cyare,” Din stood in the doorway, the black T of his visor focused on you as he watched you intently, knowing exactly what you were doing, “stop. Please. Let’s talk about this…”
“Din,” you turned to face, your face pulled into a deep look of sadness that broke his heart, “I have to go. I-I-I can’t do this anymore. I am not cut out for this life.”
“Things will be different now...I know it’s hard with...him gone,” his own voice cracked as he stepped closer to you, watching as you flinched out of his way. If he knew it would make you stay, he would have dropped to his knees and begged you, “we can have the life we always wanted.”
“When Din?” you asked as you stuffed the remaining bit of clothing into the rucksack, “when you’re done playing Mand’alor? When someone’s bested you in combat and taken the title? When someone kills you?”
“Nothing’s-”
“I can’t lose you again,” you didn’t even bother to try and hide the fact that you were ready to bawl as you looked at him with trembling lips, “I’ve done it so many times, and I’m sorry if it’s selfish of me, but I want you. Not The Mandalorian, not Mando, not the Mand’alor - you. Din Djarin...my riduur. But I can’t have that, it seems. Every time I think this is over, there’s something else. And I know your heart is pure and that you are a good - the best - man, but I don’t want a piece of you. I want all of you for once. Without anything else, no responsibilities, nothing. Just you.”
“I know things have been hard,” he sighed as he tried to reach for you, tried to gently touch your face but you just shook your head and pulled away, “I swear it will be different now. Calm, just us…”
“I know you want to mean it, Din,” you almost whimpered at him, “I know you do. But I know it’s not true; I’ve come to realize we’re very different people with different wants and needs. I don’t...I don’t want to spend the rest of my life like this. I want to have a stable, safe, loving home, with kids, and just...us. It was always supposed to be like that Din. You always promised. Somewhere along the line we changed and we want different things. And that’s okay, but this life isn’t for me anymore.”
“I do want those things…” he reached for the beskar helmet adorning his head and pulled it off before setting it down on the floor with a loud clang. As soon as you met those soft brown eyes that you had fallen in love with so long ago, you could see that he was crying too. You didn’t want to do this; kriff you really didn’t want to. But if you stayed and committed to this life forever, you would never be truly happy, “I can’t...I can’t lose you. You are everything to me...you and...Grogu.”
“I know you love me, Din,” you promised as you wished the floor would open up and swallow you whole so this never had to happen, “I know you love Grogu. I know, trust me. Because I love you more than you will ever know. But I can’t keep doing this...nor can I ask you to stop. We’re just...we’re at different points right now.”
“I-I’ll come with you,” he stammered as he took a step closer. This time you didn’t flinch but instead you threw your arms around his neck and pulled him against your body as tightly as possible. His armor created a metallic barrier; a barrier just like the one that appeared between the two of you, “please. Please don’t go. Please don’t leave me.”
“I’m sorry,” you whispered into his ear before pressing a flurry of kisses to the side of his head. He took in a shaky breath before burying his head into your shoulder, “I’m sorry, Din. I need to go. If I stay, things will never get better. And I don’t ever want to resent you or despise you because we’re at different points in our lives. This...this is for the best. I know it hurts now, but it’s for the best. We both know that.”
“I can’t do this without you…”
“Of course you can, Din Djarin,” you pulled back and pressed a gentle kiss to his lips, “you can do anything. And I know you have so much good left to do. And you will do it.”
“I love you,” he whispered as he pulled in you for a slow kiss, one that conveyed everything he wanted to say and you understood, “I will always love you. Only you.”
“And I will always love you,” you promised as you pressed your forehead against his, “this won’t be forever, I promise it. I will always wait for you. I have to go - for now - but wherever I go I know you will find me. When you’re ready.”
“I will always find you,” he agreed as he closed his eyes and breathed you in, “no matter when or where. I will find you.”
“I’ll be waiting,” you smiled through your tears as you wiped away his own, “when you’re ready, I’ll be there. This isn’t goodbye, I promise. Our story isn’t finished.”
“I love you.”
“I love you, Din,” you slowly pulled back and looked at him with watery eyes, your heart breaking, but the fact that you would one day be reunited serving as a cushion, “I’ll see you again, when you’re ready.”
“I will give you everything, I swear it.”
“You already have, my love. There’s one more thing I want - you. When you’re ready, I’ll be ready.”
“Goodbye…”
“See you later,” you reminded him with one last kiss, the sweetest and most painful one that you’d ever shared, “I’ll be waiting, my love.”
“I will be there, I promise, I swear everything on it.”
“I know, my love. Until we meet again.”

When the world falls apart, the only thing we can hold onto is ourselves (Part II)
Series Master list
pairing: canon Eren Jaeger x reader
content: Angst, unstable relationship, breakup, smut/nswf+18, major character death, violence, blood (obviously), war (pretty obvious)
summary: War and hate. It’s what defined the world at this exact moment. You failed your comrades, and by failing them, you failed yourself. Your relationship is hanging by a thread and your enemies will not only be found on the other side of the sea, but also in the mind of the person you love the most. How will you take the reins in the face of so much destruction?
Chapter summary: Coming home is melancholy and cold, and your squadmates ask you to do what you couldn't do for a year: speak up and find out what's going on inside Eren's mind.
Words count: 5.3k
They say that when a loved one leaves this world, the days follow turns gray, colorless; How ironic to think that the day we buried Sasha was gray, there wasn’t a trace of the blue sky or some solar ray that could give us the warmth we were lacking. It was cold, a cold that got into your bones and no matter how many hugs and words of mutual support we gave each other, we couldn’t get the warmth we needed.
My soul had been fragmented the moment Sasha left this world, but seeing my friends cry at her grave and leave bouquets of flowers, it fragmented even more. I wasn’t able to meet Nicolo's eyes, my guilt prevented me. Inside, I wanted this Marleyan to yell at me, to tell me that he hated my presence, that Sasha's death had been my fault, and that I should have given my life if it meant saving her. I wanted with all my being that he would give me a reason to really feel guilty.
On the way back to the island, the others assured me that her death wasn’t my fault, that I did everything possible to keep her alive. But my ineptitude, my grief, my low self-esteem prevented me from seeing things clearly. I just needed… something to hold onto.
And I wasn't getting anything.
I felt how I was slowly sinking into the rabbit hole, without the possibility of clinging to a tree root. I was falling, falling, falling, unable to know when I would hit bottom. But that bottom came fast before I could have predicted, because minutes after Nicolo arrived, Sasha's father arrived too, bouquet of beautiful red flowers in hand.
I broke myself. The two people who longed for Sasha most in their lives were standing in front of me, mourning the loss of her young soul. The two people who would hate me the most in the world, standing over my friends's grave. I fell to my knees in front of them and in front of her grave, silently begging for forgiveness.
My tears fell incessantly on the freshly stirred earth as did my fingers, imploring this burden on my chest to dissipate, as if unconsciously I was wishing for Sasha herself to forgive me for letting her die. How could one cope with this heinous feeling? How could I go on, knowing that the world was falling around us, unable to know if the next day we were going to be alive or if Marley would initiate an attack from which we weren’t going to be able to defend ourselves?
My head was racing a thousand per second and the only thing I could let out were those sobs that had accompanied me so much on the way back, the same ones that cradled me to slept, and the tears that so much wanted to dissipate the pain in my soul.
It is said that when a person leaves this world, some people are unable to handle grief, just as they are unable to articulate a word. Apparently I was one of those people.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Nights and days passed. Those of us who survived the attack on Marley stayed in commune trying to encourage ourselves to continue fighting. Hange had recommended us to rest, since the psychological damage could cause us several injuries in the future, and as for Eren ... we weren’t very aware of him. The last we heard from our commanders is that he was locked away from all human contact, stipulating that it would be better to keep him locked up for a while and let whatever shit that was going through his head dissipate.
But that was complete bullshit. I knew that, even locking him up, they weren't going to be able to change the thoughts that tormented Eren so much. I knew that, whatever was wandering through his mind, he wasn’t letting him alone and he would never let go. How did I know that? Because I spent a whole year trying to get him to let me enter in that shell he has been forming in recent years. I tried very hard to get him to tell me his plan before he went to Marley, but I got nothing, and I still get nothing.
My gaze was lost in the window. The nights grew colder and colder and I hugged my arms as I watched the sunset. The boys were arguing about something, something that Mikasa didn't seem to find funny at all, but my mind wasn’t connected to reality. I just stared out the window, remembering the old days when we'd sneak out to steal a piece of meat from the supply warehouse with Sasha and Connie.
I remembered the nights when the boys sneaked into the women's hut to keep each other warm in our days as recruits. I remembered how Armin let me practice my medicine methods on him when he got hurt, a practice that was lost when he inherited the power of the Colossal Titan.
I remembered how we would escape at dawn, grab a few horses and ride out to the ocean, taking nice cool baths on the warm moonlit summer nights. Now those moments only remained in that, in memories.
"(Y/N) are you listening?"
My gaze detached from the window, now it was fixed on a Connie who looked just as tired of the world as I did. This dwarf turned giant was just as devastated as I was by losing half of him, and yet he was still able to continue fighting alongside our friends.
"We think you might be the most suitable to go talk to Eren"
Armin's calm voice stripped me of any desire to go back to the old moments. I pulled myself away from the window tiredly and let my body unconsciously guide me to one of the couchs in the middle of the room, next to the blonde. Apparently while I was wandering in my thoughts, the tension in the room had reached a point where it could be cut with a simple wave of the hand.
As I sat down, I was able to take a better look at the room. From what I could analyze, the group had divided into two, those who still trusted Eren and those who did not, each with their reasons, and apparently, I was playing the role of mediator. The responsibility fell on me to move the pieces of the board: to talk to our supposed war partner and beg him to tell us about his plans and the demons in his head, or to dethrone him completely.
"What makes you think I can go talk to him?"
My words came out of my mouth colder and sharper than I would’ve liked, but it was the simple truth. If Eren was willing to push each other away to accomplish his task, what was I going to accomplish after a year without having answers to his thoughts?
"I haven't been able to speak to him openly in a year"
Armin and Mikasa gave me completely stunned looks. Not even their childhood friend had told them that his relationship was falling off a cliff.
"I didn't know, I thought you were fine"
"Well, we are not fine at all Armin"
I knew it wasn't fair for Armin to get all my frustration, he wasn't guilty at all. I looked him in the eye and I could find multiple feelings in those huge blue eyes: sadness, compassion, guilt, overwhelm. I knew he was one of the worst going through it, his childhood friend was no longer entirely reliable; he had carried out acts of sheer violence and had become the enemy he hated the most; Armin had become his worst enemy and his eyes clearly showed it.
And it was those same eyes that begged me to do something, to go and talk, to try to figure out the smallest thing we could use to get out of this mess Eren got us into. They implored me to save his soul brother from his mental prison.
I let out a long breath before getting up off the couch and heading to the door.
"I highly doubt that I will achieve anything, but I will try to talk to him"
I took one last look to the guys in front of me before leaving the room, each one wishing me luck and pleading for my well-being with their eyes, and sinking even further into the rabbit hole, or rather, going straight to ventured into the lion's den.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The road to the dungeons was long and heavy, but not because of the number of blocks and alleys I had to take, but because of what was waiting for me at the end of the road. Upon coming into contact with the stone walls and their semi-armored doors, the blood on my body ran cold, just as it ran cold when we buried Sasha.
The air below the ground was cold, the smell of mold and dirt entered my nostrils, preventing me from taking a couple of steps without feeling like vomiting. The place really needed a better cleaning, otherwise it would be the epicenter of a huge plague.
At the end of the corridor, where the light was dimmer and let the darkness eat much of the cell, was Eren. My heart skipped a beat when I saw him sitting on his supposed bed, staring directly at the wall, or so it seemed; knowing him he was surely lost in his world. I kept my composure, avoiding giving any trace of my emotional and psychological state.
"Hi"
I got no response, as always.
I had the opportunity to inspect his cell, it was quite untidy and dripping with water, coming from the sink which was covered to the top. Unconsciously I prayed that this water was drinkable or at least that it was not too polluted, since I didn’t have to look completely at the brunette in front of me to know he had put his head in that same water.
"I like your hair, looks very smooth"
"What do you want?"
His voice came out calm but imposing and terrifying at the same time, I would be lying if I said I didn’t startle a bit, but I kept my composure as best as possible to avoid showing the fear in my eyes. Eren may not have noticed, but if he did, he was unfazed.
"The guys think that I can talk to you, but I told them they were completely wrong, I mean...we haven't been able to speak like we used to for a year, maybe more"
My words came out of my mouth like the venom of a snake. I couldn't tell if my intention was to make him feel guilty, or at least feel something, to reflect on my words, but guess what… his eyes didn't even leave the wall behind me.
I crossed my arms and rested my body on one of the bars, hoping to have some intimidating way for the damn bastard to decide to speak. Even though bullying wasn't my thing, I, yes, had a tired face and wasn't there to waste my time, but I had to achieve something, get something, whatever, so I could get out of this damn place.
"You know very well that I'm not going to leave until you say something"
His eyes met mine for a few seconds and then returned to their original position. I knew this was going to be difficult, but I couldn't help my irritation growing from my chest. With every minute that passed, the pain in that area was increasing and a lump in the throat was appearing with each tear that I wanted to avoid shedding.
I'd been through shitty days and had to come alone to the exact place I least wanted to be to talk to the person I least wanted to see.
"I'm used to being on my feet for long hours, I can be here all day, and that's exactly what I'm going to do"
I remained planted in front of the cell, positioning myself with crossed arms right in front of his eyes, preventing them from continuing to look at the miserable wall.
But my bad luck wasn't giving me any sign that I was going to win this fight very soon. Although I was covering his peripheral field, his eyes never deigned to look at me, they simply stayed glued to the front, now seeing my body in front, although in reality, he was seeing without seeing.
My patience was running out and this goddamn silent game had only just begun. I had to find something to work with, something that could flicker him or make him angry… anger would not be the best if I wanted to leave with all the bones intact and my already psychological trauma without further damage; but knowing Eren, anger was his fuel, which made him move and in an action-reaction effect, made everyone move together behind him.
That's it. Everyone. But we weren't all here.
Sasha was dead; Reiner, Berthold and Annie traitors and enemies of Paradis; Ymir disappeared and confirmed dead, being inherited by the new jaw titan; the only one missing from our group was our beloved Queen. The Queen that Eren so decided to care for and protect.
"You know, Historia is about to give birth"
It was mild, but I could feel his body tense. His eyes moved just the same slightly, but in those little acts I knew I had struck a chord. And I was willing to use it, even if it meant destroying my sanity and causing one of Eren's greatest worldly anger.
"Wouldn't it be nice to have a little baby on the squad?" I took a deep breath before launching the second impact of the night, preparing to receive whatever blow came next. "After all, it's your child, right?"
His body moved faster than I could ever achieve and my reflexes weren't sharp enough to pull away in time. His hand grabbed my shirt, drawing me towards the bars and hitting my cheeks on each one, now my face was directly in front of him, my field of vision being just his face and finally, his eyes were focused on mine.
"Don't even think about talking about Historia like that"
If looks could kill, surely I would already be dead on the ground. His grip on my chest was strong, he was even capable of ripping the fabric, but with a push back showed me that it wasn’t strong enough, that everything was a facade. I staggered, almost fell to the ground, but either way, I kept my balance and my expression. I was terrified inside, but I forced myself to keep a stoic look at all time, he was trying to play with me and although I was not entirely sure how much there were just words and how much were an act of anger and violence, I couldn’t dedicate myself to having a hint of doubt.
"Easy, Romeo, I know you're not the daddy...or are you?"
I adjusted my clothes, avoiding his gaze because I knew if I stared into his eyes, I would get a much worse look than the one he gave me a few seconds ago.
"Whatever, you gave me something to work with, Historia knows something and didn't tell us...gee, I wonder why"
I leaned my body against the cold stone. My gaze went everywhere, trying to keep avoiding his eyes and incidentally have a stronger support for my figure.
"The Queen doesn’t have to say anything to anyone"
Ohhh, you little shit.
If that's the game you want to play, then you're going to lose.
Even if his words were absolutely right, we shouldn’t forget that, before she was queen, Historia had been our friend during training and the entire year of accumulated trauma between betrayals and deaths. If we could continue to have conversations with her and were invited to participate in political meetings, then we had every right to be informed of the supposed plan that Eren implanted in our queen's mind.
For a moment I was scared by the physical and emotional state of Historia. Was Eren capable of keeping her threatened? Did he say or do anything to keep her quiet? The questions seemed to have no head or tail, but if Eren was able to grab me the way he did, I can't imagine what he could do to keep someone quiet.
"Yes, you are right, in the same way, trust only the queen before your friends... that’s brave"
I searched the corridor and the cell for something I could use to attract his attention again, if it was necessary for me to use violence against him, I would be willing to do it. My eyes met a chain anchored to the wall, quite a long chain, to tell the truth. And on the other side, reaching almost the middle of the corridor, I could make out a rather dirty cloth.
I glanced at Eren who had sat back down on his bed, head down in his hands, and walked down the hall with one goal in mind. I grabbed the cloth and walked back to the cell, standing in front of the bars. I reached out my hand to the sink and started to clean up what was left of the spilled water.
"It's all soaked, incredible that they keep a cell like this"
Without taking my eyes off the sink, I could hear Eren settling on his bed, perhaps sitting upright. I kept running the dirty cloth over the water, honestly I wasn’t achieving much apart from spreading the now dirty water even more, but I had to continue with the facade of an understandable couple.
"It's a complete mess...were Historia's legs like this when you railed her?"
As before, Eren had quickly stood up, ready to grab my hand that was inside the cell, but I was already better prepared. When I felt his fingers touch my wrist, I turned my hand to anchor it on his arm and draw him towards the bars, having that same arm outside the cell. With half body on the cold metal, my other hand grabbed the missing arm and with all my strength I pulled his limbs towards me, causing his body and head to crash against the bars.
"Do you want to do it the hard way? fine, we'll do it the hard way"
Eren tried to shake off my grip, but the adrenaline rushing through my veins prevented him from loosening even a millimeter. I pushed him and pulled him back to me, stretching his arms even further and hitting his head on the metal.
"What's wrong with you?"
Again, a back and forth motion.
"What is going on in your head?"
Back and forth.
"How much shit can you have in your mind that you are not able to tell your friends?"
Back and forth.
"TELL ME FOR FUCK SAKE!!"
With one last impact, I hit Eren's head and heard the fibers and tendons in his shoulders rip, just as his skin began to stretch and break, revealing the flesh and muscle beneath it. Rivers of blood flowed over his arms, dropping to the floor and turning his skin red.
His head was also bleeding to the side, soaking his torso and rebel hair. A pool of blood formed under our feet. I let go of his arms and then grabbed the chain that was on the wall and chained him. Considering the number of times he hab been chained since his fifteen years, I suppose one more time wouldn't do any harm to his already traumatized mind.
When I saw his hands were secure I dropped to the floor, not caring about the blood that now adorned the cold stone floor. I could feel my ass starting to get soggy and sticky from the substance. I would have to burn this pants when I got out of there.
Both my mind and my breath hitched, enveloping the environment. I tried to calm down and clear my mind to continue this hell of interrogation. I knew I shouldn't have agreed, and now look at what situation I was in.
"You know I can transform and use the power of the warhammer titan to get out of here"
Eren seemed withdrawn from his situation, as if bleeding to death didn't matter in the least. Steam came out of his shoulders, a sign that he was in the process of regeneration and prayed that this process would take a long time to materialize.
“I know…” I tried to calm my voice and breath before speaking again “but if you transform now, you would end up killing me, and killing me means betraying the legion, and betraying them means betraying the people of Paradis… you don 't want that, do you? "
My words may sound sly, but inside I was wanting to run out of there, get under the covers of my bed and sleep until the day of doomsday; I was even wishing to die in that sleep.
"I'm going to stay here until I know once and for all what's going on in your head, because I know that whatever shit is in there… it's killing you."
Now we were both looking into each other's eyes, fighting a battle in silence, seeing who would give up first. We held eye contact for a few long minutes, unable to tell how many. Maybe it was a couple, maybe half an hour or even an hour; whatever the time, I was already getting bored.
"If I had known it would take so long, I would have brought something to read"
"What has you so worried that you can't even tell Hange or the heichou?"
My question came reluctantly out of my mouth, as if my ability to fight was fading. I was already very tired and it seemed like days since I entered the dungeons.
"Noone would be able to understand"
"Oh please! Don't take me for a fool. Do you think that none of them are battling their own inner demons? Do you think that only you can have intrusive thoughts to fight against?"
His comment irritated me to the core. I never found Eren such a selfish person, and to think that a year or so ago he was declaring his unconditional affection to all of his comrades.
What happened in the last year? What changed?
"Each one of them has to face their own internal wars every day"
Before my anger got the best of me, I took a few small breaths, calming myself. I wasn't going to put me on the same level of hatred and misunderstanding as him, even if it meant throwing away all the years we were together.
"Historia surely has to fight against the stress and the multiple responsibilities that being a queen entails, apart from fighting against the offensive comments of the military police"
Maybe the island has been rid of Titans for a long time, but that didn’t take away the fact that shitty people, like those who lived on the Wall Sina, decided to try and continue controlling the poor people who were split the loin so those ungrateful would have a feast every night.
"Connie is struggling every day against losing his other half, his twin"
Connie, Jean, everyone ... EVERYONE! We were fighting and suffering the mourning of Sasha, of our teammates.
"Shit, surely Jean is still struggling with the memory of Marco after so many years"
Yes. No one had forgotten Marco, especially Jean. But we had to learn to keep going on that very day, we couldn't afford to get sentimental and spoil the next missions. From that day on we learned to watch over our dead mates in silence.
"I fight every day against my incompetence"
And now was the time that I could begin to veil my demons once and for all.
Already my body was begging to rest. I had laid my head on the wall and fixed my gaze on the ceiling. I heard the chains move at my side, a sign that Eren was moving, but I didn't have the strength to look him in the face.
"I fight every day against the image of Sasha dying in my hands"
I know that memory is going to haunt me until the day I die.
"I fight every day against the memories of our comrades dying in battle"
I saw countless deaths throughout the year 850, so many that I decided to use my knowledge in medicine to help even to stop a bleeding. I still remember the first suture I made to a mate already lost in battle ... I was so excited, so happy to be of such help.
"I fight every day against the idea of not being enough"
But that exaltation led to thousands of failures. People who had bled internally, who had lost an arm and couldn’t get to cauterize, hundreds who had lost half their stomach or head.
"I fight every day against our enemies on the other side of the sea"
I wasn't going to deny it, learning the pure and exclusive truth of the world, I couldn't help but feel a deep hatred for the Marleyans. I wanted them to pay for the countless deaths and suffering they had caused, I wanted to see them burn, but at the same time I wanted a reasonable explanation.
"I fight the memories of the titans devouring our friends"
Memories of the first day in battle, right at our graduation, when we thought that nothing could happen. How naive we were. And to think that that was just the beginning of a long list of events that would bring us to this moment.
"I fight every day along side with the memories of the team escaping from the base and messing it up to enjoy the summer nights"
Memories of when we would sneak into the palace and take Historia with us, enjoying the air in our faces and running in the valleys of the countryside. Memories of when we ran cows for some strange reason at the beginning of the day.
Memories of when we were racing with the 3D movement gear through the great forests outside the city. Memories of the occasional punch in the face against the bark of a tree for not knowing where we were going.
"I fight every day against the image of the big bright turquoise eyes that I fell in love with"
My gaze fell on those same eyes, but instead of finding the description that I wanted to see so much, I only found grayish green eyes, eyes that had lost all their brilliance.
I found eyes full of tiredness and anger for the world. The brilliance that so characterized Eren had been lost; now I would have to settle for a blank stare.
"I fight every day ... against the memory of our return to the rooms and Levi punishing us for weeks"
My voice was breaking as I remembered the nights when only Eren and I would sneak out to spend quality time alone. Those nights where we would lie down to see the stars or to lose ourselves in each other in some meadow.
I look at my hands, they were shaking. I couldn't help but remember the first night we spent together, back then I was shaking too, but Eren's hands on my cheeks dispelled any doubt or fear that I could ever have. I unconsciously smiled at the fond memory and I think Eren did too, as I heard a little laugh coming from him.
But no matter how much smiles and laughter the memories gave me, I had to go on and face the world that was now in front of me.
"I fight every day ... against the idea of running towards you, towards your arms"
Those arms that one day gave me warmth. Those arms that one day hugged and covered me the moment I found out that a mate had died. Those strong arms that I knew were going to protect me from any harm.
"I fight against the hope that this is all a nightmare, that you are going to cradle me in your arms and tell me that everything is going to be fine, that it was just a bad dream"
My gaze returned to his, now filled with tears. It hurt, the cruel truth hurt a lot.
"I fight against the desire to stay by your side"
Eren's face was dark, he had returned to how he was at the beginning, without any trace of that soft laugh I heard a few seconds ago.
"I fight with my inner voice that tells me that everything will be fine, that in a few years it will not hurt as much as it does now"
Maybe ... maybe I can start over and when all this nefarious war is over I can find peace, once and for all, and enjoy my friends.
"I fight to move on"
...
"I fight every day...against you"
That was it.
I stood up heavily, wiping the tears from my cheeks with the back of my hand. The blood on the floor was already dry and had left the entire back of my pants stained. I hadn't noticed that the air had been permeated with the iron smell of blood, making my vomiting reflex worse, even though I had avoided it in a good way all this time.
"If you want to free yourself from this cell, go ahead, I'm not going to stop you"
His figure was already fully regenerated and I knew it was a matter of time before he transformed and left this filthy place. Eren might trust what he was doing was the right thing to do, but if he didn’t accept that in the eyes of the world, that in our eyes, his friends, the only family he had left, couldn’t understand his actions, then there wasn’t much to ask from him.
If he wanted to betray us, let him do it.
“Do what you have to do to fulfill your dream, I don't care anymore. But don't expect for me to sit around and wait for you"
"Are you planning to go to the other side of the sea?"
What a stupid and dubious question at the same time. Was I willing to leave my life in Paradis to start over even in the lands of the enemy?
No, not at all. Why I was no traitor.
"No Eren, I am not going to Marley, my family is here...but you are no longer part of it"
Those words hurt, but they needed to be said; that way I could already start to heal.
"Is that all you have to say?"
I couldn't tell if his words were mocking or a sincere question. But yes, it was all I had to say. I couldn't spend another minute in front of someone I didn't even know anymore.
"It's all I can bear"
I took one last look at the prisoner in the cell before turning and continuing down the long corridor of the dungeons.
"Are you leaving so soon? I thought I heard you would stay as long as it takes for me to speak"
As I reached the door, I took a deep breath of the foul smell of the environment. My hand lay on the doorknob and was half open when his words reached my ears. There was no need to shout from a distance, the echo of the stones made it easy for me to hear the smallest whisper of the perpetrator. I opened the door, but not before dedicating my last words.
"Goodbye Jaeger"
And behind me, I closed the door.

A Little Red Handprint
Summary - Echo is still learning how to adapt to having a child on board and struggles with deciding to treat her like a soldier or like a child. With a simple question from Omega, Echo finally makes his decision.
Word count - 2.7k
AO3
Echo had spent his entire life being trained to become the perfect soldier for the Republic. He could use every weapon imaginable, formulate a battle plan on the spot, follow orders to a T, and take down a droid with a single perfectly-aimed shot. He was proud to say that with time, he had learned to be exactly the type of soldier that the Republic wanted.
But if there was one thing he was never taught, it was how to handle a child.
Echo was completely clueless with how to care for Omega. Despite constantly watching Hunter, Wrecker, and Tech from the sidelines as they interacted with Omega, he was unsure of how to interact with her even after a few days.
At most, he’d dealt with a couple of cadets as an ARC trooper, but he treated them as soldiers instead of the children they truly were. He regretted his past actions the moment he saw Omega’s eyes flood with awe the first time she went into hyperspace as he learned how children appreciate the little things. There was a time and place for being a soldier but for now, Omega deserved to have the childhood no other clone could have.
Echo was fighting a constant but silent battle in his head over this matter. He wanted her to learn how to protect herself as a soldier could, especially after the events of Pantora, but he also didn’t want her to be in constant fear for her life. Echo was sure that their team would do everything in their power to keep her safe, but a thousand “what ifs?” still circled around in his mind.
He was so lost in thought that he didn’t hear Omega’s soft footsteps approaching. She could tell he was deep in thought and almost hesitated to interrupt him, but she eventually spoke, “Echo, can you help me with something?”
It was only thanks to years of training that Echo didn’t jump out of his skin at Omega’s sudden presence. He’d always had a bad habit of getting lost in his thoughts, something Fives loved to relentlessly tease him for.
Burying his surprise, Echo turned to meet Omega’s soft brown eyes and replied, “Sure kiddo, what do you need help with?”
“My trooper’s head is loose, and I don’t know how to fix it,” Omega said, revealing her trooper doll from behind her back and holding it up to Echo.
It still made Echo’s heart skip a beat to see that Omega had painted her doll to match the Bad Batch’s armor. Even though it was clearly the work of a child, he could tell that she put her entire heart into her work.
Taking the doll from Omega’s outstretched hand, Echo set the doll in his palm to get a good look at it. It was clear to him that the head had just been unscrewed from the neck a few times so with a couple twists, the head was back on as normal.
It was an easy fix, so easy that he was sure Omega would have known how to do it herself. Tech had been teaching her how to make all different kinds of repairs and she clearly had background knowledge as well. There had to be some other reason why she asked for his help.
Just as Echo was about to question Omega, she hesitantly spoke, “Echo, I’ve been meaning to ask, why do you wear leather armor on your belt when no one else does?”
Echo smiled softly as he realized that Omega just wanted an excuse to talk to him for a bit. The thought warmed his heart as he replied, “It’s called a kama, it’s a piece of armor I got after I became an ARC trooper. My captain used to say that it acted as extra protection, but my brother Fives always said it was just to make us look cool.”
Ever-curious, Omega propped herself up to mimic his position and asked, “So the reason you’re the only one who wears a kama is because you’re the only ARC trooper?”
“Yes, but the Mandalorians wore them before ARC troopers did. Once Jango Fett introduced kamas to the clones, ARC troopers began wearing them too,” he answered, preparing himself for more questions from the small girl.
Echo continued to answer her never-ending questions with a never-ending amount of patience. He told her countless stories about Fives and Domino Squad, a fond yet nostalgic smile on his lips the entire time.
Even without being told, Omega seemed to understand that the members of his previous squad were all dead and didn’t ask a single question about how they died. Instead, she asked questions about things like their favorite colors and Echo’s favorite memories with them.
Just when Echo thought Omega was running out of steam, she asked, “Can I try on your kama, please?”
Her question surprised both Echo and Omega, the shocked look on Omega’s face showing that the question had just slipped from her mouth.
Without hesitation, Echo reached behind him to unclip the kama and let it slip into his hands. Omega, seeming to understand what he was doing, broke out into one of her bright smiles and stepped forward to allow Echo to tie the kama around her waist. Even on the tightest setting it was too big on Omega, but she didn’t seem to care as she ran her fingertips over the rough leather.
Echo contently watched as Omega jumped around, giggling when the kama whacked against her legs. Even though she had to hold the kama in place with one hand, she seemed to be enjoying herself.
Seeing Omega so happy to be wearing a piece of his armor, Echo decided he would let her try on all of his gear. Echo was never more grateful for the prosthetic hand Tech had built him than when he was removing his armor. He was able to remove his armor and leave himself in his blacks in record time, Omega too distracted with Echo’s kama to notice what he was doing.
Echo called Omega over to him with a quick call of her name. She strolled to his side, still smiling about the way the kama was flapping against her legs.
Echo held his helmet up with one hand and asked, “Can’t let you just wear the kama, soldier. How about we get you into full gear?”
Omega gasped as her face lit up, nodding furiously. Echo returned the smile and helped her get his helmet over her head. The helmet was so big on her that she could spin it all the way around her head, which led to heavy laughter from them both.
The rest of his armor was also far too big on the small girl, but he managed to at least fasten it enough so it wouldn’t fall off of her petite frame.
Echo could hear her giggles echoing in his helmet and couldn’t help but laugh along with her. If his armor was big on her, he could only imagine how easily she would be swallowed up by Wrecker’s gear.
Omega quickly cleared her throat and stood at attention like she’d seen him do countless times. Even though Omega mimicked Hunter the most, it always brought warmth to Echo’s heart to see the small girl copying his actions.
Echo stood at attention as well, giving the girl a firm salute and smiling as she returned it with a little more force than needed and whacked her hand against his helmet.
“Hi soldier, I’m Echo and I’m an ARC trooper,” Omega’s voice rang out, clearly trying to copy the authoritative tone she’d heard from commanding officers. A quick laugh escaped from Echo as Omega dropped her voice several octaves to try to sound more like him.
Echo heard a quiet snort come from Omega before she said, “What are you laughing at, soldier? Drop and give me twenty!”
Echo replied with a quick, “Sir, yes, sir!” before getting to the ground to begin doing push ups. He felt Omega crawl on his back to sit on him just as she sat on Wrecker when he did his daily push ups. The armor dug uncomfortably into his cybernetics, but he kept his complaint to himself.
Omega jumped off his back after a minute and said, “I’m gonna go show everyone what I look like in your armor!”
Echo didn’t even have time to respond as she marched to the cockpit to greet Tech, armor clanging together as she moved. Echo slowly followed behind her, walking in just in time to hear Omega say, “Look Tech, I’m Echo!”
Tech looked up from the small project in his hands to see Omega with her arms spread wide and a smile undoubtedly spread across her face under Echo’s helmet. Echo didn’t miss the twitch of Tech’s lips as he fought back a smile at the sight of the young girl swallowed in Echo’s armor.
Omega put on her Echo-voice again and said, “Tech, did you finish your work on repairing the communications system? Hunter wanted that done by the end of the day.”
This time Tech allowed himself to smile at the child and responded, “Yes, communications are up and running, though I doubt we’ll need to use them. Everything else is as it should be.”
Echo quietly stood off to the side, doing his best to give the two of them some space as they no doubt spoke of the projects Tech was currently working on. Tech always enjoyed getting to speak to someone about his various interests, and Echo didn’t miss how Omega was eager to soak up every bit of information he gave.
A moment later, Omega sped past him and made a beeline for Hunter’s bunk. Before Echo could leave to go after her, Tech spoke, “We’ll be landing in precisely 30 minutes. You might want to get your armor back in that time.”
Echo nodded and ran off to catch up with Omega. Just as she was about to poke Hunter awake, Echo grabbed her wrist and softly said, “Sorry kiddo, but Tech says we’re landing soon and I’ll need my armor back.”
Echo could sense that she was pouting, but nonetheless let Echo lead her away from a snoring Hunter to a quiet area on the ship. Omega lifted her arms out and let Echo unclasp his armor from around her frame.
As Echo was helping Omega take off his armor, his thoughts drifted to Rex and Fives. Even though the events on the Rishi moon cost him three of his beloved brothers, it strengthened his bond with Fives and introduced him to Rex. Their armor tied them together and while he wasn’t wearing 501st colors anymore, his armor would always remind him of his brothers.
An idea popped into Echo’s head as he removed the final piece of armor from Omega and began, “You know Omega, there’s something from my armor that’s been missing for a long time. I used to have a handprint from my Captain on the chest plate of my old armor. Since I’m part of a new team, I’ve been thinking of getting a new handprint too.”
Omega tilted her head in confusion, so Echo continued, “Would you put your handprint on my kama for me?”
Omega beamed from ear to ear and exclaimed, “Of course! I’ll go grab the paint!”
While Omega ran off to grab the spare paint they kept on board, Echo began putting on his armor, leaving his kama to the side.
The pitter patter of Omega’s quick footsteps alerted Echo to her presence as she returned with a canister of red paint and a paintbrush in her hand.
“I thought the red paint would look best on it, but I can get black if you want!” Omega said, clearly happy to be doing this with Echo.
“I think red is perfect. You ready?” Echo asked as he plucked the paintbrush from between Omega’s small fingers. In response, Omega stuck out her left hand and smiled brightly.
Echo kneeled to the ground, bringing Omega down with him, and brought the paint and his kama to his side. Echo plopped a splat of paint against Omega’s hand, which led her into a fit of giggles as she said, “That’s cold!”
Echo smiled at her laughter and began brushing the paint across her hand, which led to even more giggles as she exclaimed, “Now it’s cold and it tickles!” Echo laughed as she squirmed about, but continued applying an even coat of paint against Omega’s small palm.
When he was finished, Echo set the paintbrush down and lifted the kama in front of Omega. He didn’t have a preference for where she put the handprint and knew she was smart enough to pick the best place for it.
“I’ll let you pick a good spot, just make sure to keep your hand steady,” Echo instructed. Omega nodded, her eyes flicking over Echo’s kama. Eventually, she lifted her palm up on the left flap of his kama, just above his knee. It was about an inch or so on either side of the red border, and Echo thought it would look perfect.
As Omega pulled her hand back to reveal the mark she’d made, Echo felt tears flood his eyes. Even if the handprint belonged to someone else, it would always remind him of Rex. Echo was more than happy to be part of this team, but he couldn’t deny that there were some nights when he longed for the company of his brothers in the 501st. His happiest memories were with them and after all he’d been through, he still craved the simple joy that came from something as trivial as a pillow fight or deep conversations over a cup of caf.
Sensing his sadness, Omega silently laid her unpainted hand over one of Echo’s. Tears began to pour down Echo’s cheeks, but Omega stayed silent and kept her warm hand over Echo’s. He hadn’t cried like this in ages, and he felt years of suppressed moments bubbling up.
(Rex would love Omega, wouldn’t he? And by the Maker, he just knew Fives would be able to make Omega laugh for hours.)
Echo smiled at the thought, squeezing Omega’s hand before using his sleeve to dry his tears. Echo finished cleaning himself up just as Hunter emerged from his bunk with sleep in his eyes and a fond smile on his face at the sight of Echo and Omega.
Omega ran over to Hunter with her painted palm held out and exclaimed, “Hunter, look! Echo let me put my handprint on his kama!”
Hunter chuckled, ruffling her hair and replying, “It looks great, kiddo. You’ve got some skills as an artist. Let’s get you cleaned up now, okay?”
She nodded in response, but ran back to Echo to throw her arms around him first. Still kneeling on the ground, Echo was almost knocked over by the force of the small girl’s hug. Echo returned the hug, placing one hand on her back and threading his fingers through her hair with the other.
She contently sighed against him before mumbling, “Thank you, Echo.”
Echo hugged her tighter and replied, “No Omega, it should be me thanking you. You have no idea how much this means to me.”
Omega stayed latched onto Echo, only releasing him from her hold when Hunter cleared his throat. She pulled away from him and stepped over to Hunter, but not before giving Echo one of her smiles that could rival the brightness of the sun. He smiled in return, watching as Hunter guided her to the refresher.
Staring fondly at the little red handprint adorning his kama, Echo knew that Omega may not be a soldier like them, but she was definitely a member of their team and he’d protect her just as he’d protect any of his brothers. The hole in his heart left by the parting of Rex and death of Fives may never be filled, but he had a feeling that their newest member would be bringing a new kind of joy to his heart.

der lagi lekin (hunter x force-user!gn! reader + ep. 8 fix-it)
》 summary: tbb episode 8 fix-it featuring a force-user reader who used to be a jedi. reader is a part of tbb and in a relationship with hunter, but the squad–nor hunter–knows that reader is a force-user. (disclaimer: all of this was written before episode 9 was released! see a/n for an explanation ^_^) (another disclaimer: if you want just the hunter x reader comfort, please let me know and i'll finish it up and post it!)
》 word count: ~8k (yeah, it's a lot LOL)
click here to read on AO3
》 warnings: in-universe swearing, mental breakdown, some slight sensory overloads, pretty mild panic attack, light canon-typical violence, angst + some comfort, survivor's guilt from surviving order 66, no use of y/n, slightly plot heavy because i got way too carried away in writing (whoops?) [if i should add more warnings, please let me know!]
》 spoilers: major ones for tbb episode 8 "reunion"
》 a/n: okay look, i gotta confess: this wasn’t supposed to be an episode 8 fix-it. really. i’m actually glad cad bane won because we get to see that the clones don’t always win every fight... i think it makes for a better and more complex story. anyway, i started out writing just reader and hunter comfort after episode 8 ended. but i’m weak for omega because she reminds me so much of my younger siblings and i ended up writing a wholeass fix-it to save her (even tho cad bane is a downright badass). i kind of liked what i did with building up the plot so much that i might continue this story of force-user!reader with tbb. but that’s a tangent we can deal with later. if you would like a part two with the hunter x reader comfort this was originally intended to be, let me know!
as i said in the summary, i wrote all of this before episode 9 came out–just be aware of that. because it’s so long, it took me a while to edit, which is why i’m posting after ep. 9 was released. but without further ado, i hope you like it! <33
》 misc. notes:
• title of the fic is from the hindi song "der lagi lekin" from the film zindagi na milegi dobara. i linked the song in blue and linked the english translations in green in case you're curious! it's not necessary to listen or understand the song, but i thought it went well with the fic :)
Tumblr media
“Everybody get down!” Wrecker yells. You and the squad immediately do as he instructs, diving towards the ground and covering your head. Stars, I hope this works.
The charges the six of you placed around the gigantic cone that surrounds the core cylinder explodes in a deafening blast. You curl into the tightest ball you can manage, breathing so hard that the HUD inside your helmet temporarily fogs up. Metal shards of the explosion rain down on you hard.
For a moment, it seems like nothing happened. But then you hear the telltale, ear-grinding creak of the durasteel and the squad is roughly catapulted forward from the force of the cone beginning to fall down.
You struggle to stand up as you lurch this way and that, trying to regain your balance and stabilize as Tech calls out, “Hold on!”
You quickly glance at the rest of the Bad Batch, trying to see if any of them were hurt. Other than the absolutely terrified look on Omega’s face, all is well considering the circumstances. The metal groans and begins its descent, taking your feeling of being grounded with it. The weightlessness is uncomfortably familiar to say the least, but you ignore it as the six of you scramble to hold on to the side of the cone. You certainly did your fair share of acrobatics back in the war, but feeling it hum around you...it’s too much. It’s too much. You elect to push it back into the depths of your brain. But it doesn’t leave.
It never really does.
Omega’s anxious whimpers come in faintly through your thick helmet and you whip around, frantically trying to find where she is. But before you can find her, the cone lands vertically on its head and the force is so violent that your stable hold on the durasteel is broken. Panicked, you quickly fire a grappling hook towards the ledge where you were previously hanging on. The hook catches and you stop abruptly, the jerky movement almost wrenching your arm out of its socket.
You look down to see Omega falling from someone’s grip and into Hunter’s arms. You can barely tell where anyone is thanks to the lack of light and the incessant motion.
The cone begins to topple onto its side and suddenly, your wire snaps from the tension. You let out a scream of surprise as you plummet downwards, wind rushing past your helmet. ForceIdon’twanttodieohmyMakerohno–
But you never hit the ground, instead being flung sideways as the cone tears into two. On trained instinct, you tuck yourself into a ball to try and roll in order to break your fall instead of using it. That time is long gone.
You land with a sickening thud and hiss in pain as your back hits the metal hard. You hear something crack, but whether it is your armor or something internal, you have absolutely no idea, and don’t have time to check before you black out.
✧✦✧
You jolt awake, a sound making its way into your consciousness. Finally, the damn place stopped moving. You take a few minutes to try and relieve the painful pressure in your chest, reaching up to rip your helmet off because you can’t breathe, you can’t breathe.
You tilt your head back as you struggle to take in air and let the adrenaline subside. You hear voices in the distance and you strain your ears to pick up on the sound as you quickly check yourself over. As far as you can tell, nothing major is broken, and at this point, that is all that matters. Though, your head is pounding, and for more reasons than one
“–nter.. port side... what… status?”
You can’t tell who is speaking, the message too far away for you to hear. But the bits and pieces are enough for you to know that it’s someone from the Bad Batch and that you weren’t unconscious for long. You stand up and dust yourself off before slowly walking to where you believe the origin of the sound is.
“–engine… got company.” A blaster sound and then an explosion rings through the quiet.
Your eyes widen and you quickly pick up the pace, getting your blaster ready as you pick your way through the sharp metal that is jutting out from the ground.
You click on your wrist comm. “Echo, you there?” A faint crackle before his voice comes through, but the signal is scratchy. You frown in frustration.
“–are you? Hunter is... port side,” Echo says and you smack your commlink to try and get the electronics to work, but it’s no use. The device is broken, most likely from the fall, you deduce.
“Meet… Marauder.”
You don’t bother to answer, knowing Echo would probably not even be able to hear what you had to say anyway. Without a signal booster or repeater, there’s no way you can get your transmission across the channel frequency.
It takes a few minutes, but you eventually find the night sky of Bracca blinking down at you at the end of the ripped off cone. You run out to find that you’re in the middle of where the cone broke in half. Okay, new plan. I need to find Hunter. Hunter will know what to do.
You scan your surroundings. The HUD isn’t picking up on any lifeforms near you, and you realize with sinking dread that you have no more options. Whichever piece you climbed through to get to your squadmates, it would take too long for you to search for them since you don’t know their coordinates and your comm isn’t working. Frankly, the Empire–Crosshair–would find you first. You have to use it.
You have to use the Force.
A wave of nausea overcomes you at the mere thought of it and you sway. In an attempt to ground yourself, you tear off your helmet to breathe some fresh air and end up keeling over as the bile rises in your throat. Nothing comes out. You can’t tell if that’s a positive or not.
You could have saved them. Someone. Anyone.
It itches at you in the back of your head, wishing to be let out of its cage. But you can’t. You can’t do it. What’s the use anyway? All you would be doing is saving yourself. The choice of surviving it all has haunted you ever since. Your head pounds in agony.
You saw it happen. You could have helped them. And you ran like a coward. Only ever concerned about yourself.
You inhale sharply as the scene flashes before your eyes, clones shooting at you and the other Jedi. The blaster fire. The confusion. The screams.
How pathetic.
The last statement, an echo of Crosshair’s words, bounces around in your brain. You clutch your head as you let out a heartbroken sob, knee deep in the dirt and metal and grief. Tears create clean tracks down your face as you finally break down, the flood of emotions bursting the dam open. At this point, you don’t know if the emotions are yours or the ones you previously felt through the Force, all of them swirling and blending into one. The bottled up anguish merged together when you attempted to cut yourself off from the Force after the clones–your friends–attacked.
The pain of their death is perhaps the worst of all. Horror courses through you as you finally process your friends and mentors dying around the galaxy, their deaths, their distress, their fear reverberating heavily throughout the Force. Each one cripples you further as you once again struggle to breathe.
It feels like light years pass when you finally calm down to a practically numb state of being. The scenes stop replaying behind your closed eyelids and the echoing shrieks die down to a faint, hollow whisper. You’re suddenly exhausted, limbs heavy and energy sapped. It was almost relieving to finally let the Force once again flow through your body, your nerves lightly tingling with potential despite how tired you feel. You collapse onto the ground and try to recenter yourself.
But despite finally acknowledging the loss, it doesn’t feel right. You didn’t get to say goodbye. You hadn’t been able to even think about them, much less honor them, too focused on going on the run to concentrate on anything beyond the next day’s survival. Even once you joined the Bad Batch, you were paranoid about their chips, about your friends turning on you at any moment. You were always extremely reluctant to engage in the Force, even at the worst of times.
With a start, you realize that you don’t need to worry about your squadmates. Their inhibitor chips are now gone. You… you are safe.
You let out a shocked laugh as it sinks in. A glimmer of hope, of peace. I’m safe.
You sit up then, criss-crossing your legs as you survey the broken landscape of Bracca. Despite the planet being a graveyard, you feel lucidly alive. Perhaps something died in you, that wretched day. But something else, slowly but surely, began growing in its place. It’s meek, but it’s there.
You let out a breath and close your eyes, reaching for the Force like it’s an old friend. It accepts your invitation with hesitation, joining hands with you as if you did not try beating it to death for days on end. You sink into the gentle lapping waves of the Force, extending into it and widening your scope.
There’s something that lurks beneath the surface, in the deep. Dark and sinister and so utterly painful. It calls to you, quiet and low. Enticing. Tempting. And something in you knows that it’s the reason for your previous life’s demise.
But you can feel Hunter’s–and Omega’s, you realize–presence near you in the Force. Even with your relatively damaged connection to the Force after Order 66, the Bad Batch’s Force auras were something you could always hone in on. You let yourself direct your focus to the duo, letting their emotions be your beacon to the acceptance of the Light side of the Force.
In a split second, you decide to not dive deeper into the Force. This isn’t the place nor the time to discover what is prowling in the endless yawning of the Force, to discover why everything happened. So you direct your concentration to the beings on the planet, feeling and breathing your way through the Life Force.
You freeze. There’s something here. No… someone. Your eyebrows furrow as you divert your attention away from your friends and other organisms to the peculiar source. Something about this person strikes you as familiar.
Your eyes snap open and you gasp. I’m not alone. A Force-sensitive. Someone survived. Giddy beyond belief, you snatch up your helmet and begin trekking your way across the wreckage in the opposite direction of Hunter and Omega before pausing. Whoever this person is doesn’t know about your presence on the planet.
And despite the fear you felt emanating off of them in the Force, you somehow knew they were safe, at least for now. And they would remain so if you have anything to say about it. Maker forbid anything that jeopardizes this person’s fragile safety. After all, you know best what it’s like to constantly flee scene after scene.
Staying away is the best thing to do. I’ll come back for you, whoever you are.
You double back and make quick work of getting across the debris as you focus your concentration on Hunter’s and Omega’s Force signatures. As you get closer to the port side, you hear Omega’s high voice. Through your HUD, you can see her small form. You grin. She disappears then, and on closer inspection, you figure she jumped through some broken cargo doors.
The entrance she and Hunter took is too high for you to jump up to, even with the aid of the Force. Combined with your wariness of probe droids, you decide to take a different route from the right side, climbing up the broken ship. The slick oil mixed with the water still present on the metal makes for a difficult trek, and you slip more times than you would like to admit.
Hunter’s gruff voice floats up towards you and you scramble the last few meters to the edge of a hole in the ceiling before pausing. The Force is itching at the back of your head. Something’s wrong.
You peek over the edge of the giant slab of durasteel that created the hole to see bodies in white armor littered everywhere–clones, you realize. Your heart pangs in sadness at the sight.
Slightly to your right, a blue figure and a techno-service droid stand in front of a ship and a frightened Omega stands behind a defensive Hunter. Your mouth drops open. Kriff.
Cad Bane.
A memory from near the beginning of the war hits you in full force. You and Anakin had taken some time on Coruscant to catch up with each other after you passed your trials and were promoted to Jedi Knight. He told you about a mission where he had to stop a bounty hunter who successfully stole a Jedi holocron. You remember how surprised you were when you heard the bitter disgust in Anakin’s voice. The ruthlessly cunning bounty hunter not only threatened to kill Ahsoka, but he murdered Master Ropal.
Judging by the looks of it, Hunter doesn’t know who he is. If the Anakin Skywalker had a difficult time with Cad Bane, there is no way in sithhell Hunter can take him on, even with his enhanced senses. Frankly, you seriously doubt you can either, especially with how rusty your Force skills are now. And that means this isn’t going to end well.
You watch carefully as you tune into the conversation.
“Ain’t you smart?” Bane smirks. “The kid’s got it all figured it out.”
“You’re in trouble now!” the droid exclaims, pointing at Hunter and Omega. You grit your teeth in annoyance.
“Who hired you?” Hunter asks. Stalling. Not a bad move, Hunter.
“Son,” Bane sighs, already done with the brief conversation. “That’s confidential information. Now hand her over.”
Omega stays behind Hunter, taking a knee as Hunter walks forward protectively. You bristle. How am I supposed to help from up here?
“She’s not going anywhere.”
Your eyes drift over the scene in a panic and you take in the fallen clones again. An idea pops into your head. It is desperate, but at this point, you don’t have much of a choice.
Bane mimics Hunter’s movement, walking forward and putting a hand near his belt. The tension is as thick as duracrete.
“That’s unfortunate… for you.”
You grab the long barrel piece from your belt, fitting it over your blaster hurriedly as the showdown begins. Out of the corner of your eye, you see them staring each other down and you can’t help but roll your eyes. Men.
During the war, Crosshair helped you re-engineer your weapon so you could put together various pieces in the field to make a blaster gun that loosely resembled his own sniper. Seeing the clones reminded you of him. A wave of sadness washes over you, but you shake your head. Now is not the time.
You screw on the telescopic sight and set up your makeshift sniper. You peer through the viewfinder and find Bane’s chest. Your finger tenses over the trigger.
You let yourself sink deep into the Force, let it guide your actions. Inhale. Exhale. I can do this. As you relax, the mellow warmth you missed so dearly washes over you, gently eroding the torment in your mind and heart, guiding your focus to the here and now. Trust in the Force.
Wait.
Wait.
Now.
You fire two bolts straight into your target the same exact moment Bane and Hunter shoot each other. Hunter’s shot hits the droid, breaking off its leg. Bane’s shot hits directly in Hunter’s chest, as yours did Bane. Both men immediately fall backwards and slam into the ground.
“My booster!” Oh. So not a leg. Got it.
“Hunter!”
Kriff kriff kriff. You jump down nimbly from your hiding spot in the ceiling and immediately sprint towards the duo. Is he dead? You would unapologetically release sithhell on Bane if he killed the man you love.
Omega panics as she tries to wake Hunter up, continuously calling his name before taking a glimpse of her surroundings. Before you can react, she grabs her bow and pulls it taut, aiming at you. She looks petrified.
“Whoa! Omega, it’s me!” you exclaim, holding your hands up in surrender. She takes a moment to actually look at you before sagging in relief. Suddenly, the droid comes speeding out of nowhere and Omega shoots, the energy bolt whizzing past your waist and straight into the droid before it can attack you from behind.
The shot rings true and the grumpy robot falls. You turn around to grab at its exposed parts under its head and yank them out to make sure it can’t power on again.
“Thanks, Omega. I owe you one,” you say and Omega gives you a proud smile.
You place a comforting hand on her shoulder before kneeling down to shake Hunter awake, but it doesn’t work. You take a moment to analyse Hunter’s Life Force. It’s a bit dimmer, but it’s constant, meaning he’s out cold and doesn’t have the life draining out of him. You let out a sigh of relief. He’s alive. You glance back to see Bane still not moving. Good.
“What’re we gonna do?” Omega whispers as you both peer down at Hunter. His armor is smoking from Bane’s blaster shot and you exhale through your teeth, trying to come up with a plan. You slip off a glove to check Hunter’s pulse–it’s strong. You don’t want to leave Omega alone, even if Bane is unconscious, but you aren’t sure you have a choice.
“Well we can’t carry him to safety, neither of us are strong enough for that,” you think aloud, gears churning in your head. You would have to wait for help, even if you were sitting ducks.
Briefly, you entertain the thought of taking Bane’s ship. The only problem is you don’t know what trackers or other gadgets are in there–it’s too costly of a risk and a price you weren’t willing to pay. You sigh, resigned.
“Omega, you try to comm the others and see if you can wake Hunter up. I’m going to go inside this guy’s ship and see if I can find something that can help us. We have to get out of here before the bounty hunter wakes up,” you instruct and Omega nods, youthful determination flooding back into her eyes.
You leave her to it, walking cautiously towards Bane’s ship. You look down at him. His armor is smoking in two places from the shots you fired. Based on what you see, he’s still unconscious, and his Life Force reflects the same conclusion. How long that would remain, you don’t know. Which means you need to work fast.
You board the ship while you remove the sniper attachments from your blaster and clip them back onto your belt. You keep your guard up as you look around. No droids. Guess that techno-service droid is his one and only.
In an effort to slowly re-familiarize yourself with the Force, you send out a quick pulse through it to see if there are any lifeforms aboard the ship, relaxing when you find none. You rummage through all the cabinets that you discover, looking high and low as you try to locate something of use. The secret compartment in the cockpit proves to be the fruitful reward to your search. With a wave of your hand, you unlock it with ease. Bingo.
Credits. Bags of them. And they’re unmarked creds, which make your score even better. Hopefully, it would be enough to pay off your debt to Cid and give the Havoc Marauder some much-needed upgrades.
Usually, you would feel bad about stealing from someone, but considering this was a bounty hunter – Cad Bane, no less – you figure you can risk treading the grey area of your moral code.
You grab as many bags as you’re able, stuffing them inside your backpack and clipping the rest onto your belt. At this moment, you’re incredibly grateful to Tech and Echo for designing a sturdy utility belt that fits you well. The standard ones were for clones and you definitely were not a clone.
You exit the cockpit and head to the second level of the ship to see if there’s anything else you can find. A stack of crates sits in the corner across from what you assume to be a prison. You scrunch your nose in disgust as you open one to find medical supplies. Bacta patches and gel, vitapaste, rations, water, gloves, sanitary napkins–it was all there. Delighted, you close the crate and click the repulsor to make it levitate. Oh how you love technology.
You turn around and walk back up the stairs to leave the ship. You freeze at the exit ramp. You have got to be karking kidding me.
“Sorry lil’ lady.”
Cad Bane stuns Omega in front of your eyes before rounding on you and immediately fires. In a desperate attempt to save yourself, you throw your hands up and the honeyed power of the Force rushes through every fibre of your being. The blaster bolts slow down to a snail-like crawl and your eyes widen. How did I…?
Never mind how you argue with yourself. Time to get out of here!
You tiptoe around each bolt, the effort of keeping them in stasis becoming more difficult with each passing moment. You grit your teeth as your arms shake, but you keep going until you are finally off the ramp. You lower your arms and the energy hits the inside of the ship, spazzing out the blinking controls inside.
Bane turns to you in surprise, astonished at how you’re suddenly in front of him. You don’t give him the luxury of processing the event and immediately punch him in the face with as much strength as you can muster. Bane pitches backwards and collapses onto the ground, just as he did the first time. You grab your stun blaster and shoot him as extra assurance. You really did not want this to repeat again. Hopefully he never wakes up with a memory of what I just did...
“Now stay down,” you mutter to a knocked out Bane, cradling your now injured hand. You have no idea how Wrecker ever does this because wow your hand is killing you.
You have to say, you’re pretty proud of yourself for being able to render him unconscious not once, but two times. You wish you could tell Anakin–the thought saddens you. He’s probably dead too.
With that vividly cheery thought, you stagger back from the ramp in exhaustion, weary from the sudden surge of the Force still ebbing and coursing through your body.
None of the Bad Batch knew you used to be a Jedi–not even Hunter. It was something only a few of your closest Jedi friends and the Jedi Council knew about.
But after what happened today, with Rex helping your squadmates get their inhibitor chips out, with you finally letting the Force in… maybe it is time to tell them. The secrecy wouldn’t be needed anymore now that you were sure you were safe around your friends. But clearly, the universe wanted to throw a nasty vibroblade in your plans by knocking Hunter and Omega unconscious and having the best kriffing bounty hunter in the galaxy be hot on your heels.
You take a few seconds to get your breath back and regain your mental energy. You aren’t out of the woods yet. You run inside Bane’s ship to grab the crate of medical supplies before sprinting back out towards Hunter and Omega.
You lean down and pat Omega’s cheek gently, trying to wake her up, but she’s out cold. Why is everyone around me unconscious? Frankly, you’re equally amused and terrified by the situation laid out in front of you.
You sigh, looking around to see if you can find some cover. There’s a giant sheet of durasteel to your left, big enough to act as a barrier in case trouble comes knocking. You bend down and pick Omega up before placing her down cautiously, leaning her small body against the metal. You repeat the action with the crate you found.
The third time proves to be much more difficult. Hunter certainly isn’t as muscular as Wrecker, but he sure as sithhell isn’t as light as Omega. You tap your foot nervously, trying to figure out a way for you to lift him. Yes, you could use the Force, but you don’t want to alert the other Force-sensitive on the planet. If they knew about your existence, it could put them in danger, and that was the last thing you wanted.
Giving up, you place your hands underneath Hunter’s armpits and effectively drag him all the way over, propping him up as you did Omega. You cringe at the sound of his armor grating the floor. There are sure to be dirty scuff marks on it now. Sorry Hunter.
Just as you’re about to sit down next to him, heaving deep breaths from the exertion, you pause. A warning is practically blaring in the Force and you tense, urgently trying to figure out the cause.
“Not again,” you mumble under your breath. You can’t handle any more action today. With Hunter and Omega both down, and your extreme fatigue from engaging in the Force, you don’t know how much of a fight you can put up. Not to mention you never trained as a soldier. There was a reason why you left the military planning strategies to the Bad Batch.
You hold your blaster close to your chest as you scan the environment. Bane is immobile and so is the dismantled techno-service droid. So what’s wrong?
Ten nerve-wracking seconds pass before you get your answer. Clone voices waft up to your hiding spot and you bite your cheek in frustration as your head continues to pound. Your headache still hasn’t stopped.
There is no way you can fight them all off, especially if Crosshair is with them. They are too far away for you to get a read on how many there are, and frankly, you’re much too scared to even peek around the durasteel to count.
One of Tech’s previous statements floats through your mind. About three attack shuttles worth.
You can feel your heart thumping wildly in your chest, blood rushing through your ears as anxiety ties your stomach into knots. I can’t do this, I can’t do this, Ican’tdothis.
You take deep breaths, doing your best to clear your mind and focus. You had to do this. There is no other option other than surrendering or dying. No, damnit, you would go down fighting until the Life Force left you.
You peer just past the edge of the metal to see at least twenty clones heading your way. Certainly not ideal, but you bide your time. If you started shooting now, you couldn’t use the element of surprise to your advantage and they would easily overwhelm you. But once they’re close enough, you hope you can at least take a couple out before having to resort to using the Force. It isn’t ideal, but it’s all you have.
Honestly, you don’t know if you could get out of this one alive, much less protect Hunter and Omega too. Maker help me.
It throws you off when they finally come into sight–you see how plain the clones’ armor looked without paint. You never really noticed it before since you were always running for your life in those circumstances. But now that you think about it, you are so used to seeing bright blue or green or yellow that the alabaster white just seems so… odd.
“Looks like a big fight happened here.”
“Yeah, tell me about it. All these men are dead.”
Now.
You whip your body around the metal and immediately begin shooting as fast as you can pull the trigger, trying to make every shot count. The troopers hesitate for just a moment, most likely due to their surprise of you being there. But that second is all you need.
You take out the three men closest to you before jumping back behind the metal as their barrage of fire rains down on you. You do your best to shoot back and manage to take out one more clone, but they’re beginning to gain too much ground too fast. I can do this. I have to do this.
As far as you can tell, Crosshair isn’t with the clones attacking you, but that doesn’t mean he hasn’t set up shop somewhere nearby, waiting to shoot you.
You shudder. It’s a chilling thought.
You grab one of your last detonators from your belt and hurl it as far as you can. The rapid beeping rises quickly in pitch before the charge explodes. Anguished cries reverberate throughout the area, and you briefly feel sorry for having to take such drastic measures as you feel their Force signatures dim swiftly. But you don’t have a choice.
Peeking around the corner, you count around eight to ten clones down. Not bad considering the circumstances.
You continue shooting as much as you can but now the troopers are much too close for comfort and you’re feeling overwhelmed. The durasteel you are using for cover isn’t meant to take this kind of damage, and the integrity of your shield is quickly waning as told by the constant creaks and groans. You don’t know what to do. Will we make it?
In your haste of shooting first and panicking later, you don’t notice Hunter groaning, finally waking up. And before you have time to even glance at him, the familiar hum of the Havoc Marauder and its lights shine down on you. Your sag in relief. Looks like Omega was able to comm them after all. Never before have you been so glad to see the beat-up hunk of junk. (You would never say that to Tech though–the Marauder is his baby, his pride and joy.)
Echo, Wrecker, and Tech all race off the ship, guns ablazing. Wrecker and Tech stand guard, serving as cover fire while Echo bends down to help you out.
“Hunter, wake up!” Echo hisses and smacks his helmet lightly. Hunter mumbles in pain as he starts to move, trying to look around as his HUD boots back up. Seriously? Now you wake up? you think sarcastically. But you’re much more relieved at the fact that he has actually woken up.
“What happened? Where’s Omega?” Wrecker bellows, worried.
“She’s right here, I’ve got her!” you shout back at the same time Echo says, “He was shot in the chest plate.”
You pocket your blaster and gather the young girl in your arms with every last bit of strength you have left. You aren’t strong enough to hold her in one arm and shoot with the other. That is much more up Wrecker’s alley.
“We have to get him on board!” Tech exclaims as he helps Echo support Hunter. You pick Omega up in both arms and bolt for the ship as fast as you can while yelling at Tech to grab the crate of supplies.
“Incoming!” Wrecker calls out as a fresh wave of troopers advance towards the six of you. You grunt as you deposit Omega in a chair near the controls before pulling out your blaster and helping Wrecker shoot down the men racing towards you.
“Got him. Tech, fly us out of here!” Echo commands while Wrecker makes a gesture for them to get on the ship faster. Hunter stumbles as he does his best to upright himself.
“Go go go!” Wrecker exclaims. Tech shoves the crate next to Omega’s seat and makes a beeline for the cockpit as you continue shooting, moving to the side to make space for Echo and Hunter to come on board. Wrecker quickly climbs in right after them and the ramp closes shut.
Tech immediately pilots the Havoc Marauder up and away from the scene. You vaguely hear the sound of blaster fire hitting the bottom of the ship while you drop your blaster on the ground and wrench Hunter’s helmet off in a panic. You take his face in your hands as you scan him quickly, trying to figure out if he’s hurt or not.
Hunter bats your hands away. “He... he took Omega,” he says and you shake your head. Wrecker pipes up from behind you to respond.
“Who? Crosshair?”
“The bounty hunter,” Hunter mutters as he rubs a hand over his face. Before Wrecker can answer again, you step in.
“No, he didn’t. I took him down. And no, he’s not dead,” you tack on quickly when you see Echo open his mouth. Echo shakes his head fondly and you just grin at him.
“She’s right here,” Echo says instead, pointing to Omega’s sleeping figure. Hunter turns in surprise to see that his brother is indeed telling the truth.
“How...?” Hunter’s voice trails off. Echo and Wrecker look at you expectantly, and Hunter follows suit. You sigh and take off your helmet, setting it down on the ledge next to the controls. You don’t look at them.
“It’s a long story.”
You don’t have a chance to elaborate any further because Tech walks in, interrupting the conversation.
“I’ve made the jump to hyperspace. There was a cruiser in the atmosphere, but I was able to quietly go past them by disguising our ship as a bounty hunter’s. They didn’t interfere. I put in the coordinates for Ord Mantell. I estimate our time of arrival to be five hours and thirty two minutes,” Tech reports and Hunter nods while you voice your thanks.
“Looks like we got time!” Wrecker says cheerily, pulling out an extra chair. Tech looks to you in confusion.
“Did I miss something significant?” Tech asks, concerned about the information he did not receive as he adjusts his goggles. You shake your head but now, all eyes are back on you.
“She was just about to tell us how she saved Omega,” Hunter supplies helpfully and Tech nods in understanding. He grabs a chair as well and sits down, interested in hearing what you have to say.
You look around the room, realizing you can’t get out of it. You are exhausted and just want to sleep but based on the looks you are getting from the boys, there is no way you can leave without giving a sufficient answer.
You sit down on a chair in between Omega and Echo and begin explaining.
“When the cone fell, it separated. I got knocked out when I hit the ground, but I don’t think I broke anything,” you quickly reassure as Tech grabs a datapad to scan your vitals.
“After I came to, I tried comming Echo, but my commlink was broken – I could only hear bits and pieces of what he said. There were some voices near me so I just followed them and–” you pause, not sure if you should tell them what happened. What you experienced, what you found out. “–I saw Hunter and Omega. The ledge I found was way too high for me to jump to, so I climbed up the side of the wreckage to see them and the bounty hunter facing off,” you say, choosing to leave the detail out. It was too personal. You still needed time.
All of them are listening intently, hanging on to every word you’re saying. Hunter’s gaze on you is heavy and loaded with questions. Tech is still tapping away on the datapad, but you know you have his full attention. Multitasking may not be possible for regular humans, but it definitely was for Tech.
“When I saw the bounty hunter, I knew Hunter wasn’t going to win,” you mumble sheepishly, rubbing the back of your neck. Hunter winces at your statement and you rush to explain why.
“Hunter, you have to trust that I genuinely don’t doubt your abilities. You are much more of a soldier than I will ever be. But this bounty hunter is one of the best, if not the best in the entire galaxy. He’s gone against the Jedi, and won. Based on what Anakin told me at the beginning of the war, Cad Bane is ruthless. He tortured Master Ropal and killed him. Believe it or not, I think he tried to abduct Chancellor Palpatine. Even Anakin had a difficult time fighting him.”
A tense quiet settles over you all as you mentally revisit your conversation with Anakin, and later with Ahsoka. She told you how it was one of the first times she was genuinely afraid that she was going to die, or at least get hurt very severely.
Echo’s rough voice shakes you out of your reverie. “How do–did you know General Skywalker?” he asks, clearly confused at how you referred to him on a first-name basis. You mentally facepalm yourself. How did I forget he served as part of the 501st? You feel incredibly stupid.
You could make up a lie, of course, but it wouldn’t be worth it. Hunter’s enhanced senses and Tech’s vitals scan could probably pick up on your biological signs, not to mention you would feel terribly guilty about not being honest. I promised myself I would tell them…
You blow out a nervous breath, deciding to at least give them something. They deserved that much.
“I’m–well, I was a Jedi,” you admit, staring down at your feet. You can’t bring yourself to look at them, feeling almost… ashamed.
The boys are shocked into silence and you cringe. There was probably a much better way for you to say that, but now it was out there. Yet the pressure that had been weighing down on you since you let the Force back in didn’t lessen.
“What?” Wrecker questions, thrown completely for a loop. “You’re a Jedi?”
Before you can answer, Tech pipes up. “When I reviewed your medical data, there was no note about an elevated midi-chlorian count or any sort of connection to the Force. Additionally, there is no documentation of you serving as a General or a Commander during the war in the Republic military records. How were you a Jedi? And why aren’t you one now? You used past tense in your sentence,” Tech adjusts his goggles as he attempts to register this new information that conflicted with his previous knowledge.
You sigh, drumming your fingers on your thigh. “I left the Jedi Order before the war ended. I promise I’ll explain everything in detail later, but for now, you have to understand that I’m just a Force-user. I trained as a Jedi, but I’m not a Jedi, not anymore,” you clarify, lifting your head up to make eye contact with each of them.
“Aw man, that’s so cool. You have to show us your cool mind tricks sometime!” Wrecker smiles and you agree to his request. It warms your heart to see him so excited.
“It makes sense. You must have seen the regs turn on the Jedi but didn’t know why. When you started traveling with us, you didn’t know if we would turn on you too, even though we’re not regs,” Hunter realizes, and you nod in affirmation. You’re secretly relieved by the fact that he doesn’t seem angry, just… just thoughtful.
“And then when I saw what happened to Crosshair, I knew I couldn’t risk ever telling any of you. But when Rex told us about the chips…” you trail off.
Echo picks up your sentence quickly. “You figured out you would be safe with us if we got our chips removed. No wonder you were so insistent on following what Rex said.”
You smile at the last part, a bit embarrassed. He wasn’t wrong. You were probably even more insistent than Rex was on telling them to get their inhibitor chips out. Better to be safe than sorry you told them. Though at the time, you hadn’t even thought about how removing their chips would impact you and your abilities. You were too focused on keeping the Force out of your body to entertain that thought.
Wrecker suddenly gets up and gathers you in a bone-crushing hug. “Well you don’t have to worry now! We got those stupid chips out of our heads, which means I promise we won’t kill you!” he says cheerfully and you can’t help but laugh as you hug him back, the knot in your chest beginning to unravel. You could always count on Wrecker’s wonderfully big heart to raise your spirits.
“You’re right, big guy. It’s honestly a relief. One less thing I have to worry about.”
Wrecker lets go of you and you pick up where you left off. “As I was saying, Cad Bane isn’t a bounty hunter we can take lightly. Crosshair helped me re-engineer my blaster to turn it into a pseudo sniper with attachable parts during the war. Because I was so high up, I could get a clear shot of Bane. From that vantage point, I shot him at the same time Hunter and Bane shot each other.”
Echo’s mouth drops open. “Damn.”
“What I didn’t expect was for Hunter to be rendered completely unconscious. So I told Omega to try to comm you guys while I went on Bane’s ship to see if I could find anything. And I did.” You pull off your backpack and dump out the contents. Bags of credits come tumbling out. You unhook the few bags on your belt and toss them into the pile.
“Bane had a secret compartment with a lot of credits. So I took them and that crate I yelled at Tech to get,” you explain as you reach into the bag to show off the Imperial credits.
Tech’s eyes widen as he lifts up a bag to inspect it. “I will have to calculate how much you took and mark it in the inventory, but based on my initial deduction, this may be enough for us to upgrade the Marauder and provide sustenance for at least a few months.”
“Nice one!” Wrecker compliments and you grin in response. “What’s in the crate?” he asks, walking over to lift up the top.
“Medical supplies. We barely had any left so I figured I might as well take that too,” you shrug as Hunter gets up to join Wrecker to peer at the contents.
“What happened after that? You said you told Omega to comm the others, which means she was awake. Did she get hurt while I was out? Is that why you look so exhausted?” Hunter inquires, astute as ever.
You bite your lower lip. “When I was getting off his ship with the goods, he had woken up again. Before I could do anything, he stunned Omega and then immediately shot at me,” you pause, wondering if you should elaborate on how you got out of the situation. You decide to come clean on this part.
“I… I don’t know how, but I was able to stop the blaster bolts and keep them – and Bane – in stasis with the Force. The problem was that it took a lot out of me. After not really using the Force for so long, my energy reserves were pretty much gone,” you sigh, absentmindedly rubbing your arms. Your muscles are still sore from the event.
“After that, I punched him and knocked him out again. I dragged you and Omega away from the ship so that I could protect you, and I ended up using that giant piece of durasteel as cover to fight off those clones. Then you guys came and rescued us and that’s that,” you finish, suddenly fatigued from the conversation. You slump back into your chair, perfect posture be damned.
“Wow,” is all Echo says, surprised by your strength. It took some serious stamina to be able to withstand so much for so long. Echo remembered seeing Commander Tano and General Skywalker be exhausted after some especially intense missions where they constantly had to use the Force.
“Yeah,” you mutter, massaging your dominant hand. It is still throbbing from the mean hook you threw at Bane. You don’t have any regrets. You glance at Omega’s sleeping figure and soften. The things I would do for this girl.
“Looks like I taught you well!” Wrecker laughs and you smile. When you first met the Bad Batch, Wrecker took it upon himself to teach you basic self-defense and how to overtake an opponent intelligently. Even though you already learned how to fight as part of your Jedi and military training, you couldn’t say no to him when he looked so excited. But it paid off because he’s right. Wrecker did teach you well.
“You did. You basically saved my ass out there with your amazing teaching skills,” you chuckle, glancing down at your hand. You think you’ll probably have to cover it in bacta gel to speed up the healing process before having yet another realization. (You seem to be having a lot of those today.)
I can just Force-heal. Before, you couldn’t Force-heal because it would look suspicious if something healed too fast. But now that they know, you don’t have to solely depend on medical supplies anymore.
Tech, as always, is right on cue. “Is your hand alright? For you to render Bane unconscious must have been no easy feat. Not to mention that according to the medscan I just took, you have a mild concussion, most likely due to your fall. I can run a medical diagnostic test to start and then run more specific tests to combat your pain...” Tech mutters the last part to himself, brain running light years faster than his mouth as his fingers fly over the datapad.
You debate it for a moment before nodding. “That would be great, Tech–thanks. But right now, I’m exhausted, so I’m going to go and crash in my bunk. Wake me up if I need to punch someone again,” you joke before shuffling away from your squadmates. You ruffle Omega’s hair affectionately as you pass by her and pick up your blaster from the ground before climbing down the ladder. You don’t notice Hunter’s troubled gaze or how his Force signature sours a bit as you leave.
You quickly clean up and throw on some bacta patches on a few nasty bruises. You sit down on your bed and pull the privacy curtain before deciding to open up your secret compartment next to your mattress. You stare down at the objects, the only things you have left as a reminder of the past. You reach down for one of them, about to touch it when you stop.
You shake your head and shut the drawer. Deciding to finally, finally hit the hay, you’re out like a light as soon as your head hits the pillow. Dealing with the Force and healing yourself could be done later. Not even your constant pain and crippling worry about your family friends could keep you up any longer.
please consider reblogging! it really helps me and is super encouraging ^_^
