so I’ve been trying to think of the best way to talk about Skuld’s fate for a while now and I think I’ve finally got it. My feelings about how she could be handled are a bit complicated (maybe even controversial? lol) but I hope I can make myself clear. This is essentially gonna be the post I point to whenever and if ever I need it later in the future. Thanks in advance if you read this!

If for whatever reason it’s confirmed that Skuld isn’t Subject χ and she gets together with Ephemer in canon (which I don’t believe will actually happen, but who knows), I do genuinely think there’d be something incredibly poetic about both of them leaving behind a legacy together.

Skuld as Subject χ is a super intriguing concept that I want to see get played out in canon, and even outside of that possibility, I would really love to just see her go on her own journey, have her own story where she can grapple with the events of khux in her own ways. But as someone who also happens to love her and Eph’s dynamic, I like to indulge in the possibility of them founding Scala together too.

Believe me when I say that I’m very skeptical of Skuld getting the credit and spotlight she deserves given the track record of how female characters are treated in this series. It would break my heart if Skuld got turned into an accessory or got shafted or worst case scenario, is used only to kickstart the Ephy lineage and nothing more outside of that. She deserves good, solid writing no matter what her fate is, I’m sure we can all agree on that at least.

And then there’s also the question of whether or not Nomura would ever establish a canon romantic relationship, and if he even should do that in the first place. I think it would be great, as long as it’s written in such a way that it doesn’t impede on the other types of relationships he’s already established. It could delve into some interesting new territory that can highlight the themes of kh, and make them even stronger and more profound. But you don’t absolutely need romance in order for that to be accomplished, ya feel?

Do I love Skuld and Eph together? Yes. Do I think they should be together (romantically) in canon? Not necessarily. You can both enjoy a ship AND recognize the nuances involved.

But anyway anywaaaaay, long disclaimers aside, these two characters have been through so much together…they witnessed two apocalypses. They’ve suffered the loss of a dear friend at their hands, along with their other friends as a result of horrible circumstances they had no control over. They stayed side by side as their home collapsed around and on them. But they also laughed together. They looked out for each other, stood up for each other. Encouraged and comforted and teased each other so they would smile.

From the very beginning, to the very end, they had each other over and over again. Clinging to hope with incredible resilience. From party members, to friends, to leaders. They’re both wonderful characters who I have no doubt would support each other throughout the rest of their lives, just as they always have.

I’ll be fine if a romance between them doesn’t become canon, in fact I’ll probably be pretty relieved. But I can’t deny that the idea of the two of them being entwined forever, bonded by the tragedies they’ve been through, yet also by all of their happy times and shared memories, is a beautiful thought to me.

Surviving to see the other side and building everything from the ground up again together, and seeing the legacy that follows their love, is a story worth telling, in my opinion. In the end, if that’s a story left to us fans to tell, that’s more than enough for me. We have so much to work with. Regardless of what Nomura and/or the rest of the writing team choose to do, I don’t need them to be a canon couple to enjoy the profound love and care they have for each other.

TL;DR - Whatever happens with Skuld, I’m down for the ride. As long as she’s present, period, I’m here for it. Just…please for the love of god, let her be written well. I miss her so much and I need all these years of loving her character to pay off

I definitely agree that besides his mood varying from the time he's summoned/whether he's incarnated or not, he's also affected by his Master. Kirei also wanting to bring about angra mainyu works well in Gil's decision to cull the world, but I really wonder what would happen if he was incarnated in the modern day with Hakuno as his master. I wonder if she'd be able to reel him in from going off the deep end

That's an interesting question to which I don't have a certain answer and also it depends about which universe we're talking about. About Hakuno's universe or our universe?

If we're talking about Hakuno's universe I can't say too much since we don't know too much about what kind of world it was and what people were doing before it got corrupted by BB since all of the events were happening in the cyberspace outside the Holy Grail War and that cyberspace serves more like a "purgatory" or maybe "limbo" for lost souls that cannot exist outside this cyberspace. Plus Hakuno is not technically a human and also mostly amnesiac during their journey and we don't know much about them, their past and their true wishes and goals and why they got into Holy Grail War and also everyone is collaborating for the same goal even after getting back some of their memories instead of getting on each other's throats. And since Gilgamesh was mostly cut off from those triggering factors he's acting more chill and reserved.

But if we're talking about our universe and our modern world I don't think that Hakuno would help too much and won't really change his convictions since he would still mostly be affected by his surroundings because first and foremost he's the king and an arbiter of this world and the world became more messed up, I mean, it already was but with technological progress it became more wicked and twisted.

And as we know Gilgamesh is not against technological progress and all that stuff, he fully welcomes it and supports it but what bothers him is what people have become while he was "away" and how a wish granting tool became cursed because of greedy and wicked nature of humans.

He's bothered how human life became worthless in this world and also (I failed to mention it in my post) how greedy and gluttonous people have become. And sure he might hate that just out of jealousy since mongrels are now allowed to get the privilege that only king has but I also think that he wants to give humans that are blinded by greed, gluttony and other sins a lesson that if they won't change their ways of living it would lead them to their doom and the best lesson is to make all humans without an acception feel their own evil with their own skin.

Also this quote. I think a lot about this quote that fits just perfectly especially right now.

So I think Gilgamesh would act the same way with Hakuno like he acts with Tiné since there's not much to do since it's not his job to parent humans and lead them by the hand since he wants humans to be independent in their choices and learn how the world works by themselves and, well, humans themselves are already doing a pretty good job in punishing and destroying themselves even without his help, so he would just stand on the sidelines and watch the world burn. But still he would give them some guidance (in his own way) to make people understand and maybe learn their mistakes so there's a small chance of his intervention if things would get out of control but still the result won't be pretty for everyone.

“You know for someone with such a handsome face, it really is a shame you frown so much.”

Hero feels a sudden warmth spread to their cheeks and the tip of their ears. They glance up to see a sweet, yet poisonous smile on the villain’s face. It was so strange how one moment they were throwing fists and shouting insults at eachother only to end up in a compromised position like this.

They couldn’t have predicted Villain climbing on top of them in the middle of their fight like this, but it was obvious at this point it was a rather clever technique to distract them. Gears started turning in their head, and they weren’t sure how to react as their nemesis cupped their cheek with a feather-light touch and a piercing look in their eye. It was enough to give them a fluttery feeling in their stomach, one they wished wasn’t as pleasant as they liked to admit.

The hero despised how alluring his expression was, as they leaned closer with parted lips. Only Hero understood the consequences of sharing a kiss with the devil, yet they didn’t move away.

“I- I…What?” They asked while stumbling over their words, unable to fully process Villain’s comment.

“As a matter of fact, I quite enjoy you when you’re like this,” The villain chuckled heartily as they held the other’s chin. “so vulnerable and speechless…it’s honestly rather adorable. More entertaining than when you try to act all tough.~”

“Shut up.” The hero grunts, attempting to retrieve their anger from earlier but not nearly as convincing as before. “You’ve tried this a thousand times, it’s still not gonna work on me.”

The villain simply pouts as they trail a finger up the crimefighter’s chest, noticing their breath hitch. “How disappointing…Though I suppose you have been the stubborn type, hm? Never the type to be honest with your feelings.”

Hero scoffed, lightly shoving the Villain away from them. “And why the hell would that matter to you?” They growled, only for their charming opponent to respond with a toothy grin. The villain gazed at them intensely, tracing a finger across their cheek which slowly turned scarlet.

“Because…I notice how you put a front around the public. Your fans. Your colleagues. Your so-called “friends”. You have a reputation to uphold, so naturally you put up that stoic facade around the people that rely on you.” The villain spoke in a hushed, velvety tone as they casually wrapped their arms around hero’s shoulders. “Well…all except for me.”

Hero’s eyes widened and they attempted to stare at anything else in the room to escape Villain’s alluring presence and the skin-tight leather touching their skin. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“There’s no need to lie to me puppy.”

Their honeyed voice along with the sudden pet name nearly flooded the hero’s senses, almost enough for them to listen to any of the villain’s commands.

“Don’t you want to be free…? I know you must be so tired of hiding. So, why not let yourself go, hm~?”

It didn’t take long for their enemy to brush their lips against theirs, soon giving the hero the night of freedom they had always desired.

Could you tell us more about the Vegimal Reflection Theory? You're the first person I've heard talk about it. Who are reflections of who? I think the theory is pretty dang interesting.

Why thank you for asking it reminded me! (Again if someone has already said this out there in the octo-community just lemme know!^^) And mind you, my thing is theorizing/writing and reading wayyyy too far into things😎👍

So the Vegimal Reflection Theory is as follows:

The Vegimals in the Octonauts TV series, aside from Tunip, are completely new and not featured in the original books. This being that the show creators had to formulate new animal/veggie combos as well as give these new characters personalities, as Vegimals in the books were not often singled out(and there are far more in the books compared to the show). The Vegimals are more comedic relief, fun little side guys for laughs. While this is true, they need some character of their own, something that sets them apart from the main more serious Octonauts crew. Something to complement the shows intensity to better suit the young audience, ergo, reflection theory. This theory means that every vegimal is the opposite or reflection of one of the main characters, even tho the numbers don’t match up some can double:

1. Tunip : Shellington and Barnacles : Tunip is actually classified as one of the 8 Octonauts, though never really referred to as one except for merchandise. The biggest episode for Tunip’s complement to Shellington is the Immortal Jellyfish, being more in control and on top of things. Tunip is the “captain” of the vegimals, and we see Tunip bonding with Barnacles in above and beyond. Because Tunip is one of the Octonauts, the reflection theory is bended to more of a representation factor.

2. Tominnow : Kwazii : I’ve talked about this one before, as it was what originally tipped me off to this theory. We see Tominnow check on Kwazii’s room and drive the Gup B in A Very Vegimal Christmas, an episode I used for the first initial bases of evidence for all of em. I’ve talked about how I think Kwazii is FTM transgender, and how Tominnow being a reflection is MTF, it also works with the biology of minnows and the likeliness of vegimal siblings. Kwazii is also very brave, courageous, self confident, while Tominnow is more shy, quiet, a little clumsy. This pair along with Tunip is also in the Barracuda Episode.

3. Grouber : Peso : This is almost an inverted version of the last one. Grouber is the biggest and strongest vegimal, while Peso is smaller and shies away from attention or taking up space. Again partnering with the last one, Kwazii and Peso are often seen together as a good duo, the same with Grouber and Tominnow. Grouber helps Tominnow accomplish bigger tasks, and Tominnow is more of the brains and softer/caring side. Similarly to their complement.

4. Barrot : Tweak : This one is more obvious on a surface level, the Bunny’s opposite is their favorite snack, a carrot. There isn’t as much here as the others, but I suppose Barrot is known for being very speedy, while Tweak is more hardworking at a get-it-right-the-first-time pace. My main point is just the physical opposition, I think they are secret mortal enemies (animators I need a fight scene between these two to the song Flight of the Bumblebee lmao, the reason Barrot is speedy is that they must be ready when the fated day arrives)

5. Codish: Inkling and Dashi : Dashi was the hardest character to place, I’ve always thought Dashi needs more development and doesn’t have an overarching character trait to define her by, but Codish fit the most. Dashi is very much in control, on top of things, acting as the IT Officer and Photographer, one of the only people who knows how to operate the Octopod it seems. Inkling is similar but different, wise and knowledgeable of creatures and topics of his interest, but we saw in RoF he has no idea how to work the Octopod. Codish is a more scatterbrained or clumsy character, typically causes silly problems. This relates because being the reflection of two contrasting characters would cause a jumble of character traits, and Codish lacks the control, precision, general knowledge of the two. Also yes I see the color scheme similarities, I suppose that helps solidify it more with this being the weakest one I’d say lol.

Again, these are just my thoughts with the little veggie guys, I luv em very dearly ^^ To summarize, each Vegimal is an opposite/complement of 1-2 of the main Octonauts crew, as seen through their personalities across multiple episodes.

Here's the thing.

I've never had an OC (the closest I've come is my Sheen!Master but he is my original incarnation of an already existing character) because I though I could never, but I've always loved reading about other people's OCs and I always thought it was so great to have a character that's just your own, no one ever touched them before you ( and as it often is with my muses and their og writers, no one ever ruined their life) and you develop them all on your own, you decide what their backstory is, what their favorite color is etc etc.

But today I've been browsing through OC blogs and realized that I'd like to try making/writing one. And I had an idea, it's not original but I think I'd like to try it out...

So, here it is (under the cut, because the backstory turned out pretty lengthy 😅)

His name is William Austin Burton II (he hates his first name, and he hates the diminutives derived from it, Willie and Billie, which he is called often), he comes from a long line of lawyers and he hates it here. No, hate is too strong of a word, he's just... indifferent, really. From very early on, he was raised to be his father's successor and just that and very quickly realized that he is not allowed to make any remotely important decisions about his life (and that includes but not limited to choosing subjects in school, friends, style, university, living space, girlfriend...) or have opinions that differ from his father's. Or, well, he is allowed to have them, just not voice them out loud. So, even though he had a rebel phase in his teen years, by the time he became a high schooler, he mostly gave up and from then on lived according to his parents' views, neither hating nor liking it, just... accepting it as inevitable.

He graduated Harvard, and joined his father's firm. His father as a lawyer is not one to stick to the rules. He is more of the kind that would use any means, from charm to falsification of evidence etc, to get what he needs. Willliam didn't like that kind of approach to lawyering and didn't really use the more illegal methods. With his brilliant mind and knowledge of the laws, he could be a great lawyer, but because his heart wasn't really into it and because he was expected to become a lawyer from the moment he was born so by the time he did it felt more like a chore at best and curse at worst than something he enjoyed, he never really had a case that would be the talk of the town.

His parents' marriage was arranged, so there is no love between them and never has been. They pretend to be the most perfect and loving couple for the public, but William never had an example of what a real loving relationship looks like growing up with them. He barely got any genuine love from them, either, because they were so busy trying to get the upper hand in their petty little daily war that the only affection he saw from them was a weapon against the other more than it was an emotion felt towards him.

They arranged a marriage for him, too. The daughter of their friends, lovely girl, pretty, smart, aspiring to be a lawyer herself and even graduating Harvard (her parents allowed her that much because when she became a wife, it wouldn't matter what university she went to, she would never be able to have a career, so there was no harm in allowing her to go to the university she wanted and in the meantime her parents for to boast that their little girl went to Harvard!), but having as little freedom as William did. Her and William managed to have a warm relationship, having grown up together, at least, as opposed to his parents. But there was no love there, either.

William has a younger sister, whom their father barely acknowledges as someone worth spending time with but who grows up to be a daddy's little girl, shadowing his every step and doing everything he expects of her and agreeing with his every word just to get a scrap of his love.

When William is ten, his parents have, rather unexpectedly, another boy, whom they call James.

By the time William is in college, James shows himself as a prodigy and gets more and more of their father's attention.

By the time William is 35, James joins the firm and quickly becomes the star, taking to Burton Sr' methods like a duck to water, and William loses his place in the spotlight altogether, both in the eyes of their father and public.

Eventually, though, he has enough and one day just... leaves, taking enough money to start a new life but leaving most of it, as well as most property (except for a couple of things his father doesn't know about, like the cabin in the woods that William built for years, perfecting it as his little hide-out from reality), to his wife, Eleanor.

He changes his name to Austin Clifford.

He covers his tracks.

A month later, he hears news that he died during a hiking accident while taking a long vacation with his family. A tragedy for the family, of course, his father tells the press without a single emotion in his face. There are no words to describe how shocked and saddened I am by the news of my brother's demise, James echoes.

William Austin thinks he should feel upset, angry.

Instead, he only feels free.

why is there a selection process? what are the criteria that we will be judged on? how many applicants will you accept?

Hey there! This is a great question, and one that we’ve had several folks asking, so I’ll try to be as straightforward as possible: since this is not technically a traditional big bang, but is also a zine, we have to be selective in order to keep this project manageable and make sure we stick to deadlines. Especially since it’s been decided that we’re doing a physical zine, page count and price has also become a concern to keep in mind. Longform fiction can take up a lot of space, so we have to limit contributors to make sure the final zine is able to be published and sold at a semi-reasonable price, if that makes sense!

As for criteria, main things I’m looking for are experience, not necessarily with zines but with drawing characters, ability to draw scenes/backgrounds, etc. although that’s not a hard rule, as we’re willing to accept folks who do non-zine-traditional kinds of art, not just illustration! We’ve had some submissions from folks who do graphic design and traditional art, so if you do something that’s not illustration but want to participate, throw us an app! I’m also of course looking for passion for Danger Days, though we’re not requiring anyone to submit Danger Days work, it does help! My main focus with this zine is that it’s solely Danger Days focused, with little to no MCR influence, so seeing folks be passionate about Danger Days and the killjoys as individual characters definitely helps! Ultimately, this is only a loose guide, because I really want to give everyone a fair chance, and let as many folks participate as possible.

Speaking of which, because of the aforementioned limitations with a print zine, we’ll be looking for around 20 contributors total, 10 artists and 10 writers. I know that’s small for a zine but because works are going to be longer-form, we have to consider page count. I am willing to try to squeeze a few extra participants in, like I said, I really want to give a fair shot to everyone I can, and let as many people as possible participate!

Ian leans in again, pressing his lips to Mickey’s in a peck that lingers too long on the pull back.

Suddenly, a woman pushing a stroller passes on their right, her tiny tot giggling at a volume that pulls both of their attention; their limbs a flurry as they step back—the Southside having shaped them both.

This is part where Mickey’d clam up, take space, push away, but those demons are suspiciously silent, replaced with foolish notions of love and grandeur. Like he’d lose, just to watch Ian win.

He blushes, straightening his spine. “Alright, alright, I’m fucking starving.”
