There are many web hosting companies to choose from if you're taking the plunge into making your own website with a comic content management system (CMS) like ComicControl or Grawlix, a Wordpress comic theme like Toocheke or ComicPress, or a HTML template to cut/paste code like Rarebit. While these solutions are generally free, finding a home for them is... generally not. It can be hard to choose what's best for your webcomic AND your budget!
We took a look at a few of the top hosting services used by webcomics creators using webcomic CMSes, and we put out a poll to ask your feedback about your hosts!
This post may be updated as time goes on as new services enter the hosting arena, or other important updates come to light.
Questions:
💻 I can get a free account with Wix/Squarespace/Carrd, could I just use those for my comic? - Web hosts like this may have gallery functions that could be adapted to display a series of pages, but they are very basic and not intended for webcomics.
📚 Wait, I host on Webtoon, Tapas, Comic Fury, or some other comic website, why are they not here? - Those are comic platforms! We'll get into those in a future post!
🕵️♀️Why does it say "shared hosting"? Who am I sharing with? - "Shared hosting" refers to sharing the server space with other customers. They will not have access to your files or anything, so it is perfectly fine to use for most comic CMSes. You may experience slowing if there is too much activity on a server, so if you're planning to host large files or more than 10 comics, you may want to upgrade to a more robust plan in the future.
Web Host List
Neocities
Basic plan pricing: Free or $5/month. Free plan has more restrictions (1 GB space, no custom domain, and slower bandwidth, among other things)
Notes: Neocities does not have database support for paid or free accounts, and most comic CMS solutions require this (ComicCtrl, Grawlix, Wordpress). You will need to work with HTML/CSS files directly to make a website and post each page.
Hostinger
Basic plan pricing: $11.99/month or $7.99/month with four year commitment (monthly, 1, 2, and 4 year plans available).
Notes: Free domain for the 1st year. Free SSL Certifications. Weekly backups.
KnownHost
Basic plan pricing: $8.95/month or $7.99/month with four year commitment (monthly, 1, 2, and 4 year plans available).
Notes: Free DDOS protection. Free SSL Certifications.
InMotion Hosting
Basic plan pricing: $12.99/month or $9.99/month with three year commitment (monthly, 1, and 3 year plans available).
Notes: Free SSL Certifications, free domain names for 1 and 3 year plans. 24/7 live customer service and 90-day money-back guarantee. Inmotion also advertises eco-friendly policies: We are the first-ever Green Data Center in Los Angeles. We cut cooling costs by nearly 70 percent and reduce our carbon output by more than 2,000 tons per year.
Reviews:
👍“I can't remember it ever going down.”
👍“InMotion has a pretty extensive library full of various guides on setting up and managing websites, servers, domains, etc. Customer service is also fairly quick on responding to inquiries.” 👎“I wish it was a bit faster with loading pages.”
Ionos Hosting
Basic plan pricing: $8/month or $6/month with three year commitment (monthly, 1, 2 and 3 year plans available).
Notes: Free domain for the first year, free SSL Certification, Daily backup and recovery is included. Site Scan and Repair is free for the first 30 days and then is $6/month.
Reviews:
👍“Very fast and simple” 👎“Customer service is mediocre and I can't upload large files”
Bluehost
Basic plan pricing: $15.99/month or $4.95/month with three year commitment (monthly, 1, 3 year plans available).
Notes: Free domain and SSL certificates (for first year only). 24/7 Customer Service. Built to handle higher traffic websites. Although they specialize in Wordpress websites and provide updates automatically, that's almost a bad thing for webcomic plugins because they will often break your site. Their cloud hosting services are currently in early access with not much additional information available.
Reviews:
👎"The fees keep going up. Like I could drop $100 to cover a whole year, but now I'm paying nearly $100 for just three months. It's really upsetting."
👎"I have previously used Bluehost’s Wordpress hosting service and have had negative experiences with the service, so please consider with a grain of salt. I can confirm at least that their 24/7 customer service was great, although needed FAR too often."
Dreamhost
Basic plan pricing: $7.99/month or $5.99/month with three year commitment (monthly, 1, 3 year plans available).
Notes: Free SSL Certificates, 24/7 support with all plans, 97-day moneyback guarantee. Not recommended for ComicCtrl CMS
Reviews:
👍“They've automatically patched 2 security holes I created/allowed by mistake.” 👍“Prices are very reasonable” 👎 “back end kind of annoying to use” 👎 “wordpress has some issues” 👎 “it's not as customizable as some might want“
GoDaddy
Basic plan pricing: $11.99/month or $9.99/month with three year commitment (monthly, 1, 2, and 3 year plans available).
Notes: Free 24/7 Customer service with all plans, Free SSL Certificates for 1 year, free domain and site migration.
Reviews:
👍Reasonable intro prices for their Economy hosting, which has 25GB of storage 👍Migrated email hosting service from cPanel to Microsoft Office, which has greater support but may not be useful for most webcomic creators. 👎 Many site issues and then being upsold during customer service attempts. 👎 Server quality found lacking in reviews 👎 Marketing scandals in the past with a reputation for making ads in poor taste. Have been attempting to clean up that image in recent years. 👎 “GoDaddy is the McDonald's of web hosting. Maybe the Wal-Mart of hosting would be better. If your website was an object you would need a shelf to put it on. You go to Wal-Mart and buy a shelf. It's not great. It's not fancy. It can only hold that one thing. And if we're being honest - if the shelf broke and your website died it wouldn't be the end of the world. The issue comes when you don't realize GoDaddy is the Wal-Mart of hosting. You go and try to do things you could do with a quality shelf. Like, move it. Or add more things to it.” MyWorkAccountThisIs on Reddit*
Things to consider for any host:
💸 Introductory/promotional pricing - Many hosting companies offer free or inexpensive deals to get you in the door, and then raise the cost for these features after the first year or when you renew. The prices in this post are the base prices that you can expect to pay after the promotional prices end, but may get outdated, so you are encouraged to do your own research as well.
💻 Wordpress hosting - Many of the companies below will have a separate offering for Wordpress-optimized hosting that will keep you updated with the latest Wordpress releases. This is usually not necessary for webcomic creators, and can be the source of many site-breaking headaches when comic plugins have not caught up to the latest Wordpress releases.
Any basic hosting plan on this list will be fine with Wordpress, but expect to stop or revert Wordpress versions if you go with this as your CMS.
🤝 You don't have to go it alone - While free hosts may be more limited, paid hosting on a web server will generally allow you to create different subdomains, or attach additional purchased domains to any folders you make. If you have other comic-making friends you know and trust, you can share your server space and split the cost!
Want to share your experience?
Feel free to contribute your hosting pros, cons, and quirks on our survey! We will be updating our list periodically with your feedback!

It appears to be very possible and actually pretty easy to view the exact numbers of a running poll without voting in it on Tumblr. The data is available at:
https://tumblr.com/api/v2/polls/{blog-identifier}/{post-id}/{poll-id}/results
Most of the information about this can be found at:
However, this particular endpoint does not have documentation and we don't know how to get the poll-id. You don't actually need to, though. If you open the networking console and filter for "results", it will show this data for any polls that have been loaded.
The actual data is in the response JSON under response > results. It appears that the data is in the same order as the poll is displayed, although we only tested this on one poll.
It would be pretty easy to write a browser plugin to add a Show Results button using this data and/or to display exact numbers in the results.

clovenhooves.org now has over 100 accounts! Thank you everyone. 💜
Based on the "application question removal" polls, I removed the "What has been your journey with feminism?" question. It looks like people were good with the rest of the questions, so that is the only one that has been removed from the membership application.
I'm currently working on getting a "latest posts" plugin working, so it's easier to see new activity. I'm also planning on creating an invite system.
As always, suggestions and feedback welcome!

A New $upporter Perk Appears
tl;dr: $upporters (Patreon, self-host) can now vote on a special project to work on during my streams
January 29th will mark the first edition of the "$upporters-choice $tream"! I'll send out the final poll on Thursday, but first, a public, non-binding interest check! Note that all I’m promising is project progress, and the projects might take a few streams to complete.
Here's the projects you (and $upporters) can choose from:
Let’s Build a Guestbook Starter!: Missing guestbooks? Well, here’s your chance to help the “guestbook renaissance”. The final product of these streams will be a GitHub repository anyone can use (or copy) to build their own guestbook using Astro.
AO3 Downloader Obsidian Plugin: Wish you could download AO3 fics in markdown + frontmatter and add them to your Obsidian vault? This is the project for you! The first step of this project will be to extend AO3.js to support downloading the content of fics, which will unlock other projects! A website starter might be in the cards too…
Load Alt Text from File Astro Plugin: If you’re using Astro, you might find that adding long alt text to images makes your markdown hard to read. Luckily, someone (read: me), wrote code to fix that. In this stream, we’ll package my plugin to load alt text from a file, and put it up on NPM for everyone to install! If time permits, we might make some progress on the next step too: creating a plugin for any website that shows visitors any extra information you wish about your images (alt text, author, source etc.).
“RobinBoob Remake” Progress: As you might know, we’ve been making progress on rebuilding RobinBoob so we can add more cool, highly-requested functionality to it. Unfortunately, we aren’t done yet! This is your chance to “buy” extra time on this project, and get the new RobinBoob to the masses quicker!
Reblog this and let me know why you chose this option in the tags 👇 was it a close choice?
If you want to vote on the real, binding survey, become a $upporter before Thursday! (Patreon, self-host)

Honey Hollow is coming back!!!!
Hi everyone! In march 2022 I made the decision to shut Honey Hollow down due to starting the process of moving to a new country, which in turn caused me to be jobless. I'm mostly moved now, although still jobless, but recently my friend Boyd offered to pay for the cost of the server because we've both been missing HH and this community. So she's back!! Or she will be back :) When? I don't have a set opening day yet, but I'm hoping to come back before the end of December so we can have a holiday event. This will be a much easier goal to reach because we're keeping our towns, so we won't need to do much rebuilding, but I can't make any promises. Is anything changing? A little bit! We're keeping the most used warps from the server, but the world will be completely new. I've also had to purge some of our plugins due to them being outdated and broken, so if you notice a feature missing that may be the cause (but feel free to ask, I forgot to make a list of plugins when I shut the server down and I can't remember all of the ones we had). Not much else will be different though, and the server is still 100% free to play for everyone with no restrictions on commands, homes, etc! What version will the server be on? 1.20.2, but you can join from any version! You can also still join from bedrock :) Have more questions? We have a FAQ on our tumblr and in our discord! If you'll be joining Honey Hollow for the first time, I recommend joining the discord! I only post big big updates on tumblr, but everything is announced in the discord, and I do polls before making changes to the Minecraft server to make it a more player controlled experience, so you could contribute there too! Thank you to everyone who used to play on the server, to everyone who has stuck around since the shut down, to everyone who talked about how much they miss the server (this motivated me a lot to bring the server back), and to anyone new who wants to come along for this next journey! I love you all and I'm excited to see your usernames in Honey Hollow again or for the first time <3

Progress Update #6: Hi-Fi Wireframes, Prototype, & IG Polls!
Hello, hello! 👋 Thrilled to have you back on my Tumblr blog! Dive ↓below↓ for exciting updates on my project!
What has been happening over the past 2 weeks?
Website ➜ Website Prototype
First, some bad news, but good news for me. After emailing my instructor, she approved my decision to reduce the scope of my project from delivering a website to just a website prototype. Given the time constraints, I fell back on a website prototype, which I previously mentioned as a backup. I also want to say that I have been describing my web designs as microsites when I really meant webpages.
Website Updates
With that out of the way, boy, oh boy, do I have some great news! I locked in and got a lot of work done during these past two weeks. Needless to say, I have been super productive! I finally finished my high-fidelity wireframes in three to four days, and after that, it was just a matter of setting up the hotspots for my prototype. The prototype didn't take me too long, I’d say 30 minutes up to an hour. I simply connected the pages to each other for navigation.
Instagram Updates
Yesterday, Sunday, I finished the drafts of my Instagram stories and posts and just started my campaign there. The polls began on Monday, April 7 (today) and will be posted daily at 12 PM until Friday, April 11. I will post the results after the polls close, so it’s a day at most. I will also post the polls as story highlights when they're done campaigning. I advertised and promoted my Instagram Stories on Discord (ACMWO, ASUHWO, UHM, YFP, and NCH servers) and Slack (UXHI), so hopefully we see some results! By the way, if you don't know already, I run the ACMWO (Academy for Creative Media at West Oahu) server for our server, albeit unofficially. Here is the link to our Discord server for fellow ACM students to join: https://discord.gg/XypuYABU7n!
What is coming up for the next 2 weeks?
Once the results are finalized after Friday, I will begin summarizing them, which will be posted on my website prototype on Figma and Instagram. After I update the results page on my prototype, I will send out a Google Form survey for user testing, which will be the starting point for my post-production phase. I am so close to the finish line; it’s exciting!
Hiccups/Hurdles/AHA moments
I encountered a little hiccup when I realized that Instagram polls only accept four options, so I had to reduce the scoring from five to four. So, instead of rating the website designs on a scale of 1 to 5, it is now from 1 to 4. I could've easily avoided this blunder by just testing the Instagram polls beforehand. That was my bad! 😓
An AHA moment I realized was discovering a Figma plugin where AI would generate a high-fidelity wireframe, which was perfect for my project. It was also the reason I fell back on a prototype. I was unsure how I would let AI generate on a website using Wix, so you cannot imagine my immense relief when I learned about this plugin. It was life-saving, to say the least.
Any deliverable drafts to share?
At the top of this post, you will find screenshots of high-fidelity wireframes and my prototype from Figma. I have also included my introductory post for Instagram. Click here to view my project documentation again and see the updates. If you're curious about the drafts for Instagram stories and posts, I have linked the Canva files to them, respectively. They have been approved by my instructor, which is why I have begun campaigning. Plugging this again, but here’s my Instagram account! Please follow me, don’t be shy, and keep voting until Friday!
୨⎯Update Thursday, April 9 (4/9/25)⎯୧:
I just realized I forgot to share my prompts and website copy document for my hi-fi wireframes, so here it is! Google Docs Link. You can navigate the document using the “Document tabs” on the left.
Where are you on your timeline?
I am proud to announce that I am officially in the production phase, very close to the post-production phase! I am so glad to finally be back on track for this project, which I have dreamed of for so long. I was so anxious and uncertain about whether I could even finish this project, but it looks so much more attainable now! I am very proud of myself for making it this far. Graduation is now within my reach!
That’s a wrap! Appreciate you stopping by (≧◡≦) ♡

(The colours on the left of each element's bit are how they actually look, while the ones on the right are how they look after being put through Studio's "Photoreal" renderer)
(also this won't apply to my next MOC post, since I'm working on it while this poll is active)
Complementary colours obtained using the Paint.NET GPU Accelerated plugin; "Eye" colours (with the exception of the Shadow one) sampled from the Bricklink Studio thumbnails for the 8/10 Colourpack's "Trans-Glow" colours, with the saturation set to maximum and the brightness set to 90%.

Deepseek vs Google Gemini vs ChatGPT: Which AI Brain Would You Pick? 🌟**

Hey, digital wanderers! Let’s talk about the three AI heavyweights currently vibing in the techosphere: *Deepseek, **Google Gemini, and **ChatGPT. They’re all brainy, but they’ve got *very different personalities. Let’s break it down like we’re judging a talent show (but for robots).
---
### *1. Deepseek 🧠*
*The Niche Genius*
Born in China’s tech labs, Deepseek is like that friend who aces calculus and writes code in their sleep. It’s laser-focused on *technical tasks*—think data analysis, coding help, and hyper-accurate research. Need to debug Python at 3 AM? Deepseek’s your caffeine-free fix.
*Strengths:*
- *Code whisperer*: Fixes errors, writes scripts, and explains algorithms like a patient tutor.
- *Data wizard*: Crunches numbers and spots trends faster than you can say “spreadsheet.”
- *Minimal fluff*: Straightforward, no chit-chat (unless you beg).
*Quirks:*
- Not the best at creative writing or casual banter.
- Still learning non-English languages.
*Best for:* Developers, analysts, and anyone who dreams in binary.
---
### *2. Google Gemini 🤖*
*The Smooth Operator*
Google’s answer to “What if AI could do… everything?” Gemini is the ultimate multitasker. It’s baked into Google’s ecosystem (Workspace, Search, etc.), so it feels like that one friend who’s weirdly good at organizing your life. Plus, it’s *multimodal—meaning it *sees, hears, and talks (yes, you can yell at it).
*Strengths:*
- *Ecosystem king*: Syncs with Google tools like Docs, Sheets, and your soul (just kidding… maybe).
- *Multimedia maestro*: Analyzes images, videos, and audio. Show it a meme, and it’ll explain the joke.
- *Safety first*: Google’s strict guardrails keep it PG-13 (no existential crises here).
*Quirks:*
- Can be overly cautious (avoids spicy opinions like a toddler avoids broccoli).
- Still rolling out, so some features feel like a “coming soon” trailer.
*Best for:* Google loyalists, students, and anyone who wants AI to handle their errands.
---
### *3. ChatGPT 🎨*
*The Creative Chaotic*
The OG crowd-pleaser! ChatGPT is like that artsy friend who writes poetry, roleplays as a pirate, and occasionally makes up fake historical facts. With GPT-4 (and plugins!), it’s a Swiss Army knife of creativity and chaos.
*Strengths:*
- *Storyteller supreme*: Writes novels, jokes, and fanfic about sentient toasters.
- *Customizable*: Plugins let it book flights, analyze PDFs, or teach you piano.
- *Personality++*: Sassy, empathetic, or professional—you pick the vibe.
*Quirks:*
- Sometimes hallucinates (e.g., “Shakespeare definitely wrote Star Wars”).
- Requires clever prompting to avoid rambling.
*Best for:* Writers, curious minds, and anyone who wants AI with ✨rizz✨.
---
### *So… Who Wins?*
- *Need to code?* Deepseek.
- *Living in Google-land?* Gemini.
- *Want creativity + chaos?* ChatGPT.
Or just rotate all three and feel like an AI CEO.
*Poll time!* Which would you trust with your to-do list:
🔵 Deepseek’s precision
🟠 Gemini’s Google magic 🟢 ChatGPT’s chaotic charm
*Visual vibe:* A doodle of three robots arm-wrestling on a laptop keyboard, with coffee cups labeled “CODE,” “SEARCH,” and “ART” spilling everywhere. 🌈✨

Do you like my games? Do you want to weigh in on what I make next? For the month of March anyone who subs to my Patreon gets to vote in the poll deciding between these games:
Mister Mandragora's Specialest Errands!
This will be a remake of my very first game, Mister Mandragora's Special Errands! It will be a slice of life Rpgmaker game where you play Blythe Mandragora as he runs errands to prepare for his anniversary with his husband Marth. It will be a short and sweet game like the first one, just with much improved art and hopefully gameplay ^w^)
RadiAngel: Apotheosis
The world renowned award losing visual novel reimagined like never before, FINISHED! The story will be more fleshed out, there will be more cgs, and the girls will have more than one sprite each, imagine!
Ode To Fingers
Visual Novel where you play as a weird angel furry being used as cattle due to your holy regeneration and find comfort in your strange new comrade. Very dystopian meat and gore... romance? :3c It will be pretty dark.
Rot With Me
Visual Novel where you play as a necromancer helping a undead cursed paladin find the relic he needs to die. Miserable toxic dark fantasy yaoi.
Wild Card Rpgmaker Horror
I just want to make an Rpgmaker horror game, old creepy manor type shit. Maybe weird or no combat planned but yes puzzles, I mostly want to fuck around with plugins and things I've seen and wanted to use but couldn't due to them not fitting the current project. Protag will be a lesbian that is the only concrete detail I will promise you.

as im doing my new layout in the wake of the poll results i figured i'd poast my old layout with the old pngtubers i made for myself and some of my friends. sadly the plugin i used to align my chat with that screen is no longer free, so i just. i skewed it.
#daily h#my art#i liked this layout a lot conceptually but the fact that the pngtubers obstructed a huge portion of the screen was uh#less than ideal#to be clear this is the 'just chatting' layout#they were reduced in the gaming/art layout but still pretty dominating#looking forward to making thiss so much better smile

i don’t know if i can directly reply to your answer so i’ll just send one of these again, i asked that vst question
with "back then" i meant 2006-2010 and are the sound&recording features up anywhere? i would look through those gladly (although i can’t read japanese) if you don’t want to
You're good, this is the best way to respond~ They aren't up anywhere yet, I'm in the very early stages of figuring out a new spot to host stuff (not closing the blog itself, just Tumblr has become a bit of a hassle to use anymore for archival purposes and I want something that feels more "permanent" and easier to navigate...). Anyway.
In the 2006 FRUITS CLiPPER/CLM feature: Native Instruments Battery 2, Native Instruments FM7, Arturia ARP 2600V (damn the thing this was replicating was gorgeous), Arturia Minimoog V, DISCODSP Discovery 2, Novation V-Station, Spectrasonics Trilogy.
[They ignored the lad for the entirety of 2007, which is insane, but.]
MORE! MORE! MORE! feature from '08: I wound up having to skim some of this and didn't find much... He says he was still using "the usual Native Instruments and Arturia," something made by Waves (S&R just notates it as "plugins by Waves" as they were listing what was shown in studio photos), and he mentions "only using the hi-hat from XLN Audio Addictive Drums." (As a side note when asked about what pitch correction software he used, he said he changed it depending on what he felt like, between Melodyne, Auto-Tune, Yamaha Pitch-Fix and "free software.")
[His 2009 feature was for FLASH BEST so nothing new, though there is a paragraph of him talking about Hatsune Miku. This is what ya'll are missing out on by not voting for it in the poll lol...]
PLAYER feature from '10: Wow the white text on a black background for this is killing my eyes!! Steinberg HALion Symphonic Orchestra & still says Native and Arturia are his ride-or-dies, Spectrasonics Trilogy and Trilian and that's it.
#messages#nakata yasutaka#studio#production info#Sound & Recording#i had fun listening to some of the remasters while i went through each feature lmao
