It's easy to think Gotham became lonely when Jason died.

But it was really because Dick left.

It wasn't really Dick's fault, he tried to see a shitty shrink in under an alias, but she couldn't understand what he meant when he said:

"I see him, Jason, I see him everywhere"

He couldn't go to the manor anymore, the floor's creak sounded too much like Jason's laugh. God forbid he be in the cave looking at the batcomputer, flashes of yellow and red always ended up dancing in his peripheral vision. And the jar Jason had begrudgingly asked Dick to open seemed to move closer to his hands every time he reached into the fridge.

He had to get out.

Driving his bike he'd swerve through traffic thinking the tuft of dark hair could be Jace, only to have frightened a child walking down the street.

In fights he'd leave his left flank open, his muscle memory convincing him it was covered and afterwards he'd wait before stitching himself up because he was supposed to go over wound care with Jason this week-

oh.

There was no teaching left do, but no mourning either. How do you mourn a loss you've yet to let go?

Bruce wasn't even on the same planet anymore, Dick should've felt the loneliest he'd ever been, but it was the presence of the only robin he'd ever fought next to that haunted him.

Gotham and its villains thought they were doing the heroes a service by moving quieter, but their silence only made room for a painfully familiar voice to echo the empty streets.

And so Bludhaven felt like an intermission to his grief. The city couldn't mourn a loss it had never known, and it allowed Dick to breathe with the crushing weight of his prideful sparring partner off his chest.

So he left.

And Gotham became cold under the influence of Jason's ghost. He left Bruce to freeze.

Anything to get away from the shadowy figure that found him when he walked between life and death.

Can you blame him?

- and while i do think richard grayson tried his best to woo you, there was a man who was just always quicker

- faster. speedier. the fastest man alive (for now, bart allen is a sore subject). HI WALLY WEST'S LOVER

- like i said, dick introduced you to the group probably at a musical trivia night, because he lovesss the old musicals and brought you along to cover the rest

- wally was there (because on a night off he's always with his bat) and you two immediately clicked

- i think you made the first "you shall not pass" joke hinting at your love of tolkien and he got lightheaded when he realized you were his type of nerd

- deep into the night he's gone fullll flirting and you're a blushing mess but by the time he's pretend proposing with a paper ring made from a straw cover you hit him with "well for the kids i've always liked the name sauron, it has a nice ring to it!" and he actually fell out of his chair

- you didn't really take it serious at first, but then he started showing up everywhere

- i just love the dynamic of a speedster falling head over heels for a girl who 8 times out of 10 is parked somewhere with a good book and a fun drink

- but you become a kind of home base for him, always there when he needs you, and we can't pretend like you aren't willing to match his insane energy those other 2/10 times...and when you're both acting clinically insane it's like dangerous. to bookstores and nature look-out points everywhere

- he made you a little passport where he wants you to place a red lipstick kiss everywhere he's taken you, so he's constantly on a mission to show you the world

- can't believe i made it this far without mentioning THE HEIGHT DIFFERENCE 7 inches good lord be with you. lots of scooping you up and zooming off, or running in circles around you chatting while you both go on a run

- i think in the long run (ha!) you really match his emotionality, wally is honest and wears his heart on his sleeve, your chill and open-arms vibe is a space for him to relax and appreciate the slower parts of life

- he now likes to fall asleep with his hard around you while you talk about the different stories your into, hum your favorite tunes, or just tug small braids into is curly hair; dick is beside himself with you cute you both are, and often refers to himself as your adopted son-

- at the start of the new year, you both try to care for plants which eventually wilt and are rescued by tim, you replace them with crochet replicas which jason pretends to water every once and a while just to see you smile

- it's just very homely, warm in the way that two people who truly love each other are

- i think, in a way, it heals jason to know someone soft and creative could really love him and see a future that he's a part of

- i think for you, it would place a new confidence on your shoulders, there was a 6 foot hunk behind your every move, and someone who worshiped the ground you walked on (when he wasn't carrying you) it made self worth come easy to you, and to him. you'd be the best thing that had ever happened to each other

- And so you'd been sent to Gotham to assist the baby dark knight, who'd been rolling his emerald eyes everytime they met yours

- Suddenly, it had been 6 months. Dames (a newly established pet name) decided not to return to the league, and bruce finally got a well deserved pause from playing the big bat. somehow in all this mess, you'd stuck around

- In a moment of weakness post-battle you'd told him if he ever wanted you gone, he'd only need to pack your handful of things from the mansion up, you'd take the sign and get out of gotham

- Though he teased about grabbing boxes for you weekly, they never appeared.

- Somewhere around 8 months you both were busting a local crime syndicate when your grapple gun broke. in a rush, you pressed yourself against Damian before you could explain the situation

- You forgot about explaining the moment you realized there was a pink tint under the cowl, and that his heart was beating out of his chest

- You arrived home and he hadn't spoken a word, after replacing the gun and stitching yourself up a bit, you found him in your room with boxes

- To say you crashed out was an understatement, manically shouting it wasn't your fault the gun didn't work, pointing accusatory fingers at him saying he couldn't keep it in his pants and that it was so sick of him to toy with your emotions like that after he knew you had a crush on him when you first started

- Damian froze. Closed the distance, and gave you a begging look to explain. But your feathers were always ruffled, assuming only the worst saying you'd pack yourself if he was hell bent on pretending he didn't know just to play game with your head

- "With your head? Do you not know how agonizing these months have been for me? Burning for you and stifling my flame to be professional? Had I known you'd - you'd cared for me to I would've- well I would've-" Damian was a man of action, not of words. His lips crashing into yours were all he could do to convey his honest emotions.

Against A Wall - Dick Grayson x Reader

When Dick Grayson applied to be the fourth roommate in your apartment, you (and all your friends) thought he was pretty cute. When you moved in with Dick Grayson you thought he was beyond annoying. He would often leave half eaten bowls of cereal in strange places around the apartment, return to the apartment at ungodly hours, and try to talk to you at the most inopportune moments. Your two other roommates were absolutely normal, attending classes at Gotham U, staying up late studying or going out, and rarely lounging around the house the way Dick often did.

"Y/N? I'm getting takeout, you want something?" you jumped up from studying to Dick resting against your door frame, you'd sworn you closed the door.

"Uhh I should probably eat something, Big Belly Burger right?" you launched the assumption which made him grin.

"You already know me so well"

"Nope, I know the overflowing trash you never take out. But yeah, I could kill a burger right now" you stood up to grab his phone, entering your order and noting the total of your meal. As you handed the phone back you asked, "what's your venmo? I can add tip too if you're picking it up" but Dick just shook his head replying, "don't worry it's on me" to which you realized was a small, but undeniable debt you didn't like.

"Nope. My treat then Grayson" you retracted, pulling the phone to your chest as you began typing in your own card info.

Dick raised his eyebrows, then leaned back on one leg, looking calmer than ever. "I'm paying, now give me my phone back." he said, factually.

Gods, you loved a challenge. "You gonna take it from me?" you waved his phone in your hands with a small laugh.

"Do you want me to?" his voice dropped, and instantly your eyes locked with his. You felt like Icarus, dancing dangerously close to Dick's burning proposition.

Again, you never shied from the sunlight, "what if I do?" Now, it was Dick's turn to look straight at you. His gaze didn't leave yours as he almost floated through your room, closing the distance until he was an inch away from your desk, his hand outstretched, signaling his hesitation to really fight for his own phone.

You looked up at him, feigning defeat for moment. Then a wide grin, "I just remembered my security code! Pick up for now is or is there a better time for you?" Tilting your head to the side with blinking eyes.

His chin raised, glancing down with a grin, "would you set it to an hour wait? I just realized I might have other plans" you frowned, feeling like the banter was dissipating. "Sure thing Grayson."

You felt smug at the personal win as you pressed the order button. It didn't last long.

Within milliseconds of a click two giant arms were wrapped around your torso, his leg pushing your chair back as he raised you into the air like you were a feather. Not missing a stride he backed further into your room, pressing your back against the wall.

Gruffly, he muttered "care if I pay you back now?" his eyes trained on your lips.

Haggardly catching your breath, you took a few seconds to consider the offer. Everyone knows not to sleep with your roommate. Especially not when your other roommates think the one you're sleeping with is cute.

Then again, you were known for making poor decisions when a calloused hand was working on the buttons of your clothes...

And so began a mutual roommates with benefits situation. At the latest hours of night, in afternoons when no one else was home, and once in the elevator on the way up to the flat: you and Dick found a pleasure in the sneakiness of your carnal release.

And it was truly carnal. Clothes ripped and strewn about, deep gashes in his back from your nails, warm red spots around your body from his mouth's attention.

It was like a drug, you'd label yourself a junkie if you had to. And what an exhilarating secret to keep! Knowing glances and dangerous texts always meant fun was incoming.

Except, this wasn't as mutual as it seemed. Richard was suffering. The bouquet of roses (your favorite color) he'd excitedly brought home just lead you to ask "for your mom? so sweet!" dropping a wink before sauntering to your bedroom. They were for you. Until his ego petered out. Right there in the living room.

You had this je ne sais quoi about you, the kind of energy that sucked the "will you go out with me" right out of his lungs. The kind of look that made his heart do flips and his legs jelly unless he was trailing after you.

This was foreign territory for Dick. It felt like his personality was split in two: in the bedroom and his vigilante-ing he was cool and collected, but when he tried to explain he'd stopped by your favorite bakery because he wanted to give you something as sweet as you- well it came out in a jumble.

And it was at the fault of Richard nerves-for-the-first-time Grayson that the roommates caught on. So they had sat him down, thinking he was just obsessed with you and wanted a chance, unaware of the whole physical relationship already formed.

Dropping your keys on the little hook, you heard whispers and giggles from the hallway. You rounded the corner to see each of your roommates seemingly busy: watching tv, reading, floating around in the kitchen, - but no Dick.

One made a slight cough, "there's a -uh- package for you in your room," (cue incessant giggling).

"What the hell did you guys do?" you retorted, cautiously moving towards your room. Upon opening the door you just found Dick sitting in your chair, a bag of Big Belly Burger in front of him.

You gave him a confused look, "this is the package? What did I do to deserve this?"

He took a deep breath and said "it was you buying me a burger that made, you know, happen" he looked down awkwardly with almost a blush at the thought of the last few weeks, "but, I want to start over," he finished decidedly.

You were taken aback, and a little hurt. "That's fine, I mean no strings attached, especially if you're seeing someone now." You couldn't deny the pit that was starting to form.

His eyes widened and gaze shot to meet yours, "no! Not like that! I meant, I wanted us to start over. I wanted to buy you the burger and ask you to dinner, a real date, if you want."

Emotionally you'd now done a 180, and were trying to get your bearings. "You want to go on a date with me?"

"Yes, I do."

"And you told everyone in the house?"

"They figured it out- but they don't know about-"

A chorus echoed from the living room "Yes, we do!" and a smaller "you horndogs" from one of the roommates.

Dick now looked sheepish, "oh I guess they do too." The sincerity and embarrassed look on a such a strong and ballsy man was melting your heart.

You made your way to the chair, sitting down, straddling him, "I'd love to go on a date with you Dickie" to which his only response was closing the distance in between your lips.

No funny business though, he wanted to move slower this time.

That night, while you were heading to the kitchen for a midnight snack, he caught your hand in the hallway, pulling you to his chest for a slow, almost methodical kiss. Like he wanted to memorize the feeling of a kiss that meant more than what it had before.

It was like your wax wings had fully melted, you'd fallen completely for him in just a few hours. And though in a few months you'd both be forced to move out after fornicating on too many roommate-shared surfaces, your friends were happy to have coaxed their favorite people into a beautiful relationship. And just like he'd promised, every day with Dick was brand new, full of all the love and sincerity you'd both been seeking, what a gift it was to find it in each other.

- tim heard about it through the bisexual grapevine and brought it up during family movie night

- everyone agreed simply because they love animated shows

- season 1 & 2 were both out so they started friday and watched all through saturday (bruce had to call the superfam in to watch over gotham lol)

- immediately everyone had a favorite character

- jason thought it was stupid until he saw vi being a total badass and thought "she's chill as fuck i like it"

- damian didn't really have a favorite until he saw ekko. he'll deny it but he shed real tears during the ekko/powder scenes

- dick thought mel was a baddie but secretly loved heimerdinger - he just thought the lil guy was so cute but also so knowledgeable during the second season. he couldn't help but feel the ekko/heimerdinger moments were him and damian to a T

- steph can't help that she loves chaos, so every time jinx went ballistic steph was there cheering her on. she also knows what it's like to be just a girl looking for a father figure

- tim... oh sweet tim... infatuated. obsessed. in too deep. for jayce. can he admit he was roleplaying as victor during the whole show? is it wrong if he just wants a genius hunk next to him in a brilliant workshop?

- tim was desperately texting conner pictures of victor and jayce explaining they had to do a cosplay

- conner agreed

- the ending battles were really brutal for the family to endure, huge debates with steph on jinx's side, tim promising himself victor isn't as bad as he looks, and overall everyone being a little sick of caitlyn up until the vi/cait scene

- steph loudly pronouncing all lesbians the hottest in the show

- damian was too busy thinking of how he could go about forcing star labs to produce an air board for him like ekko had

- everyone felt bad for vander, with bruce tearing up a little at the idea of doing everything for your family even as you feel yourself turning into a monster

- jason felt it too.

- dick was just wondering if he should switch to a giant hammer but decided it might slow him down

- the credits roll and everyone instantly needed to know if there would be a season 3, and there was uproar when they discovered the story was over

- everyone was trying to do victors silly accent for the next few weeks and steph dyed her hair blue in solidarity

- jason started hanging around gay bars looking for a buff butch best friend to no avail

- needless to say everyone loved it, and a few league of legends players were born that weekend, i'll leave it up to you to figure out who would main who!
