Remus convinced Sirius and james that David Bowie was the muggle version of Merlin and that Bowie was seen as a muggle god, this ended up becoming a joke for all the Gryffindor muggle borns/half bloods who knew who Bowie was. This continued all the way to harry Potter sitting in Gryffindor tower with Ron Weasley who is wondering if muggles say "oh for Bowie's sake" instead of "oh for Merlin's sake" little did they know 20 years prior James and Sirius where sat in the same dorm having almost the exact same conversation.

yes yes that man is sitting by an open window in freezing weather eating a single hard boiled egg and flavorless pasta salad, and he can unwittingly come across as quite unsentimental or rude or blunt, and his jokes are awful and overly literal (“a werewolf? he’s sitting in my chair!!11!1”) so remus is a damp paper towel, i agree. but these same things also make him a really stereotypical berliner schnauze

in terms of modern au it's just a funny detail that makes a lot of sense (remus is in a knit turtleneck but still stomping his way through Friedrichshain in crustie doc martens), but its more interesting to me in my personal view of canon?? like this is the 70s. it's before the fall of the iron curtain, remus is growing up in a postwar city halved by the Wall, isolated from the world by the cold war, and filled with spies and punk music and poverty

in my headcanon, remus was separated from his (bavarian) family by the wall and grows up alone as a muggle in kreuzberg, west berlin. i like the idea of remus as a penniless lycanthropic preteen at the very height of Deutschpunk, cynical but still young, going to all the shows covered in scars just looking for a place to sleep. he grows up collecting gutter cigarettes and not eating enough and sharing a filthy flat with a rotating cast of sometimes-benevolent older teens with drug problems. he sees things pragmatically and he sleeps too much and spends his full moons in the abandoned train tunnels under Potsdamer Platz and he shaves his head to fit in and he loiters, eating peanuts off the bar at all the music clubs down Oranienstraße, thinking his life is dull and lonely and monotonous and grey and wishing it could maybe be something more. and then, of course, he gets his Hogwarts letter

Remus gave Sirius the Ziggy Stardust album for Christmas one year and it has forever since been his favorite and most cherished gift, he listened to it all the time. But when Sirius was taken to Azkaban, he thought it would get destroyed just sitting in a box somewhere. But Remus kept it and took care of it, he kept it with all his other albums and made sure it was still in perfect condition, but he could never bring himself to play it. Just listening to it was too much of a reminder of what it was like once, of all the memories and happiness now lost to the test of time

A reminder that the day Sirius had his first birthday in Hogwarts was also a full moon. Imagine 12 years old Sirius not knowing why Remus can't be there on his birthday. Imagine little Remus sad because he can't spend this important day with his new friends.

The Marauders at a sleepover:

● the sleepover is at James's house, cause he's the only one with enough rooms and beds and his parents aren't monsters (looking at Walburga)

● the boys would still end up sleeping in the same room, even though they could easily have their own rooms

● Remus would introduce them to some muggle movies (Mean Girls, Legally Blonde, The Breakfast Club, ect.)

● Peter would refuse to let them play monopoly (Marlene traumatized him enough)

● their initial goal of the sleepover was to come up with new pranks but they got carried away sharing vital information about the school life (gossiping)

● Sirius and James made a bet about who would fall asleep first (they bet on each other)

● Sirius and James were the first ones to fall asleep (none mentioned the bet after that)

● when the two were asleep, Remus read his new favourite book and Peter drew while listening to David Bowie and Queen (they were very comfortable in each other's company)

● after everyone fell asleep, Sirius had a nightmare which woke up Remus

● he calmed Sirius down and they went back to sleep cuddling

● James and Peter never mentioned waking up to Sirius and Remus holding each other for dear life

● they both found it cute, tho

I’ve missed my boys!

- Remus is really bad with alarms, he’ll set so many but still sleep through them whilst Sirius can wake up a minute or so before his (Sirius wakes him up with kisses when they start sharing a bed)

- Sirius, to me at least, loves rock but he also loves classics like 80’s and 70’s stuff too, I feel like he wanted to branch out with his taste when he met his friends and so he took a lot of inspo. I also love Sirius as a drag performer so he listens to a lot of iconic queer artists and songs too

- Remus loves softer indie music, but also David Bowie, the smiths etc, he will listen to ANYTHING Sirius recommends to him tho (he has a 12 hour playlist just of Sirius’ songs)

- they love getting ramen and sushi together, Remus always gets giddy over the food on the conveyer belts

- they sometimes swap clothes but because of their different styles it’s very obvious

- when Sirius has a gig at pride or at a local bar Remus is always helping him with makeup and his outfits, and always sitting front row for him

- Remus isn’t confrontational or loud but if he has a couple drinks his ‘Sirius side’ comes out (his boyfriend inspires him)

- I love picturing them both playing guitar and singing, I feel like they’ll play songs for each other all the time or duet

- Sirius taught Remus how to play piano

- Remus goes quiet a lot so he is always touching Sirius in some way to show him he’s there

- Sirius flirts with Remus constantly just to make him blush and flustered

- they hang out with other people a lot too, they aren’t always together, but being together alone is their favourite thing to do

- I’m a Remus loves pottery painting truther and do they go once a month? Of course
