☀️🌙THE SUN AND THE MOON🌙☀️

In cultures all over the world, humans have anthropomorphised the sun and the moon and associated certain feelings and identities to them.

Some see them as masculine, some see them as feminine, some see them as deities, some see them as humans transcending their mortal bodies to become one with the stars.

But it's nothing new to see them as celestial lovers, forever dancing in the sky, separated by the confines of night and day, never to touch.

Here, I chose to depict the sun and the moon as two women of differing cultures embracing in tender love for one another.

The sun, an African woman with a huge afro of golden curls and a dress made from kente, draped in golden jewelry and her rich brown skin glowing with it's own internal fire.

The moon, an Indian woman with flowing pale locks, her skin dotted with stars and her sari dress sparkling with the inky darkness of the night.

I am really pleased with how this illustration turned out and I'm hoping you guys like it too!

I've been trying to focus on art a lot lately, just to give myself my own sense of peace given everything that is going on right now.

I call her my moon but she is the sun and the stars. i am just the moon reflecting off her, cherishing and adores her light.

cosmos of a thousand stars I found the one I met in my dreams. who said she'd meet me between the sky and sea.

she was like a golden light, the warmth of the sun as it soaks into your skin. that bright spark of kindness on a lone wildflower to bloom.

she's a light so rare a comfort in fear, that glimmer spark of hope. my golden flame under the same sky I'll follow you through any cloud.
