Reviewing tactile paving in Wudaokou, Beijing
[video ID: A video from douyin that shows a first-person POV of a walk along an uncrowded granite city sidewalk. The camera is pointed at a downward angle, showing a silver walking stick sweeping back and forth over vertical block tactile paving, with white shoes stepping in and out of the bottom of the frame. A woman speaks in Mandarin Chinese as Simplified Chinese and English captions appear over the video. At one point, the woman encounters a pair of feet belonging to someone standing stationary at the edge of the tactile paving, but otherwise the path is unobstructed. The English captions read as follows: Okay, begin. I’m showing everyone this blind path. I was just walking on it and thought that it was especially distinct. Plus it’s very wide. This width is very wide. I feel like this is my ideal blind path. And then, just like… Sorry. When I walk on it, there’s also no particular obstructions. Like, there’s no trees boxes or anything super nearby. Uh, of course, I also don’t know if that’s true. In any case, I haven’t bumped into anything. I feel like this is the type of blind path that actually guarantees our safety. I really hope, like, that we can have more blind paths like this. /End ID]
English added by me :)

The Affinity Between Autism and Stuffed Animals: An Unfurling Bond
The nuanced bond between individuals with autism and stuffed animals is a matter of significant intrigue and insight. The soft, predictable, and non-threatening nature of these plush companions presents a calming aura, contrasting the often overstimulating and unpredictable real world. This article delves into the underlying reasons explaining the predilection of individuals on the autism spectrum towards forming attachments with stuffed animals.
Sensory Processing: People with autism often experience sensory processing differences which may make them more sensitive or less responsive to sensory stimuli. Stuffed animals, with their soft and predictable textures, offer a soothing sensory experience. The tactile sensation can provide comfort, reduce anxiety, and help in managing overstimulation.
Predictability and Routine: Individuals with autism tend to favor routine and predictability. Stuffed animals, being inanimate, provide a consistent and predictable interaction. Unlike humans or other animals, stuffed toys do not change their behavior or appearance suddenly, which can be reassuring.
Emotional Regulation: Stuffed animals can serve as emotional regulators. They provide a source of comfort and security which can be particularly beneficial in unfamiliar or stressful situations. Their presence can also aid in self-soothing, which is crucial for emotional regulation.
Non-verbal Communication: For those with autism, interpreting social cues or engaging in social interactions can be challenging. Stuffed animals provide a non-threatening way to explore emotions and practice social skills in a safe, controlled environment.
Unconditional Acceptance: The unconditional acceptance offered by stuffed animals is comforting. Unlike interactions with people, there is no fear of judgment, rejection, or misunderstanding with a plush companion.
Symbolic Interaction: Stuffed animals can serve as a bridge to understanding and expressing emotions, as well as a medium to interact with others. They can act as proxies in social interactions, making the process less intimidating and more manageable.
Conclusion: The affinity towards stuffed animals among individuals with autism is rooted in both sensory processing and the emotional comfort derived from the predictable, non-judgmental companionship they offer. Understanding this bond can pave the way for developing more effective therapeutic interventions, thereby enhancing the quality of life for those on the autism spectrum.

Your boys
TW: well, there's no them
Characters: Vincent Sinclair, Thomas Hewitt (polyamory)
Ps: Well, I made that for my ex-girlfriend in the past, but I through it is cute for reading :) I hope you enjoy it ♡
Tumblr media
You lived in a small house on the outskirts of the city. It was akin to a warm mansion next to a shallow river, surrounded by dense thickets for miles around. There was a grassy clearing in front of the house, always dotted with large daisies in summer; a paved gray path led to the entrance; the porch was covered with dark ivy. The front of the makeshift garden was filled with many flowering bushes of red geranium and white scabious.
Today was a very busy and tiring day, so you were very tired and irritable. Recently, your damn director has behaved extremely openly and promiscuously towards you, what's more, he hung extra work on you in order to cross paths with you once again. It made me very angry. So the only thing you wanted right now was to come home and go to bed.
You forcefully pulled the door handle, then pulling the keys out of the keyhole. With one awkward jerk, entering the house, you closed the front door and threw your keys and bag on the floor. Also quickly taking off your shoes, you exhaled heavily and went to your bedroom, plopping down on the bed. I wanted to lose myself in this cool bedspread and a large pillow with a pleasant lilac scent from the new fabric softener.
It was getting overcast outside the window, the clouds were gradually thickening, covering the shining sun, a real downpour was about to begin. The wind was getting stronger, and now it penetrated into the room, enveloping your body, from which the skin was covered with goosebumps. Your face was burning from the still present tension after a working day. The caressing evening air was relaxing. Especially now, here in the forest, when everything around has acquired the smell of damp earth and damp trees.
You squeeze the blue bedspread with your fist, burying your nose more into the pillow. After a moment, the mattress next to you will crumple under a heavy weight, and you feel a big hand on your hip. The palm is large and rough even through the thickness of jeans, but the movements are rhythmic and soft. Your shoulders involuntarily lower, relaxing. You squirm a little, and the movements on your leg stop.
"Hi, Tommy," you whisper, lifting your face from the pillow, leaning on your elbows.
The man nods briefly and looks at you with excitement. You slowly sit down, not taking your eyes off the man. His hair is disheveled in the usual way for him, falling over his broad shoulders, curls curl into small curls. Big blue eyes move over your body with obvious anxiety and fear, noticing every tense movement of your body. Now he was wearing the clothes you bought, and there was no mask on his face, revealing a slightly rotting skin and a missing nose.
Thomas looks at you, scrutinizing your awkward gaze and drooping shoulders, when he finally clumsily signs: "Are you okay?". His sign language wasn't as good as yours yet, he started learning it quite recently, but he was already making decent progress, so it turned out to be quite easy to understand simple phrases on his part.
"It's okay, Tommy. It's okay," you awkwardly tuck a strand of hair behind your ear, "I'm just tired. My boss is not very good, so..."
You were interrupted by the feeling of a warm palm on your cheek. Thick fingers gently rubbed against your soft skin; eyes the color of forget-me-nots looked at your face with awe and pity. Thomas could not always convey his thoughts in words, he liked to show his feelings. And now the man was trying to calm you down and show that everything that a bad person has done to you is not important, because Hewitt is next to you, here and now, and he will protect you from all the nightmares in the world.
Sitting on his lap was the best thing to do after a hard day's work. Over time, the man got used to your excessive tactility, especially in stressful situations, and began to perceive it as a good sign, an excuse to show his love. Because now he was gently pressing you to him, putting his head on top of your head. He was mumbling incoherently, I think it was a lullaby about a mockingbird, which his mother sang to him in early childhood. You cooed softly, pressing your cheek against his broad and large body. The noise in your head slowly subsided, and you hardly remained on the verge of vivacity and sleep.
When you were embraced by another pair of hands, more neat and skillful, you sighed in relaxation, lowering tense eyebrows. Vincent was very quiet, you didn't notice him coming over. The man stroked your hair, running his artistic fingers through the pliable strands, like ribbons flowing over his skin. The palms are rough due to constant work and in places excessively smooth and warm, like wax. The man was whispering something softly, resting his head on Thomas' shoulder, the second only chuckled smugly.
A quiet voice moved to your ear, gently scorching your skin; you felt Vincent's breath on your neck and cheeks, and then he gently touched your lips, giving a weightless kiss.
"Want to eat?" Vincent signs when you open one eye; you nod. Thomas gets out of bed, still holding you in his arms, and gently pushes the artist next to him behind his back, smiling.
Spending time with them like this, the three of them, seemed like a real fairy tale. You don't remember when this strange relationship started, and when the boys agreed to it, but it didn't matter. Hewitt and Sinclair loved you the most in their lives, gradually they got used to the mutual presence, perhaps some strange friendship formed between them, you don't know. But they are crazy about you and will do everything in their power to make you happy.

hi! I'm (planning on) writing a fantasy book and I want my world to have accommodations for disabled people (blind, deaf, wheelchairs, etc.) and I was wondering if you could give me some tips/things you think people would appreciate please? I want to get it right :]
This post I wrote a few weeks ago in response to an anon question is a good place to start! It has some stuff for amputees and other related disabilities (e.g. wheelchair users/crutch users) specifically.
One of the best things though is to remember that things don't have to be a specific way, just because that's how it was in the real world. e.g. Castles in the real world don't tend to be very accessible, but stairs don't have to be the default method of travel between floors in your setting. especially if magic is involved.
Changes you make to make a society more accessible will also have run-on effects so things will end up looking quite different on a surface level. For example, written language and books will probably look really different to English if they were made with tactile elements built-in for blind people. Some things will also have positive impacts on non-disabled people too, which could cause a run-on-effect to something seemingly random. A city built with wheelchair access in mind (no stairs, wider streets, sturdier paving, less hills) is more likely to also be more accessible to people using horse (or monster) drawn carriages inside the city itself. This could result in more stables throughout the city because people no longer have to leave them outside the gates anymore. That also means more people would probably need to be hired to pick up the animal poo left behind which would quickly cause accessibility issues, so the cities would be probably be cleaner - it also creates more jobs too. A lot of little things like that would end up having rather large run-on effects.
This doesn't mean you have to change the entire aesthetic though! You can still have your stone castles and overall medieval aesthetic (or whatever other fantasy aesthetic you're going for) just be mindful of what elements you're using and why you're using them,
As for stuff specific to other disabilities, I'm not really the best person to answer that. Most of what I could give you would be pretty generic, like the book thing. Best to find content creators that talk about their disabilities (folks who talk about being blind, deaf etc) and pay attention to the tools they use and what they say they would like to see more often and try to figure out how to incorporate those things into your work in a setting-appropriate way. Just be sure you listen to what they actually want, not just what people make for them. This is especially important for Deaf folks in particular since a lot of devices made for them are not things the community actually wants or needs, it's just to make hearing people more comfortable around them. Of course, if you want to ask questions about your book specifically, find content creators who talk about writing characters with the disability specifically, not every disabled content creator is open to this kind of question since a lot have bad experiences of working with authors or just don't feel comfortable answering them in general.

The Black Knight pinball machine, crafted by Steve Ritchie and launched by Williams Electronics in November 1980, is a landmark in pinball history. It distinguished itself as the pioneer of split-level playfields, featuring both upper and lower levels accessible through ramps. This innovation introduced a novel complexity and challenge, setting a precedent for future pinball table designs.
A standout feature of Black Knight was its "Magnasave" technology—a magnet-based system enabling players to prevent a ball from draining by activating a magnet at the opportune moment. This added a strategic element to gameplay that was both innovative and engaging.
The machine's medieval theme, underscored by the taunting Black Knight character, enhanced its immersive experience. The character's verbal jibes drew players deeper into the game's narrative, paving the way for subsequent pinball machines to incorporate more themed and story-driven elements.
With the advent of digital emulation, Black Knight transitioned from arcade legend to digital icon, notably featured in Pinball Hall of Fame: The Williams Collection. This inclusion has allowed newer generations to engage with the game across various modern platforms. The digital version meticulously recreates the original table's appearance, mechanics, and sound, ensuring the preservation of its legacy and broadening its reach beyond traditional arcade environments.
My personal experiences with Black Knight, both in arcades and across different gaming systems, have been uniformly positive. Its innovative design, challenging gameplay, and compelling theme have consistently impressed me. Following its digital renaissance, the feedback I've received aligns with my view: it offers a valuable window into pinball history for contemporary audiences. As a tangible and digital entity, Black Knight epitomizes the timeless charm of pinball, seamlessly connecting the tactile allure of its arcade origins with the digital age.
Contrary to initial reservations, the handheld PSP version stood its ground against home console iterations, proving to be just as engaging and playable, defying expectations and highlighting the game's adaptability across platforms.

Winfred Rembert
(American/Georgia, 1945-2021)
dye on carved and tooled leather
Note:
Born in rural Georgia, raised in a community tied to the cotton fields, Winfred Rembert survived a childhood of poverty in the segregated South of the 1940s. He would go on to be a nationally recognized artist, and his biography - Chasing Me to My Grave: An Artist's Memoir of the Jim Crow South - was awarded the Pulitzer Prize in 2022.
It was not a well paved path. In 1966, after a demonstration in Americus, Georgia, Rembert was arrested and put in jail without being charged. A year later, he escaped but was caught and hung up by a group of deputy sheriffs. They stuck him with a knife but did not kill and burn him as he had anticipated. He spent the next seven years in a chain gang. Remarkably, he met his wife while building roads and bridges in rural Georgia as part of his prison sentence. While in prison, a man named TJ taught him how to carve wallets out of leather, a skill that he would use decades later in his embossed leather paintings.
After his release, Rembert and Patsy married and they moved to New York, then Connecticut, where he worked a variety of jobs. Not until in his 50s after a second round in prison, did he begin to draw and paint the scenes of his youth, carving the stories into tactile leather canvases.
In 2000, Rembert had a well publicized show at the Yale University Art Gallery. In 2002, he was introduced to Peter Tillou after speaking about his artwork at a school in Waterbury, Connecticut. A short time later they agreed to a working relationship that included numerous exhibitions and his 2010 "coming out" show at Adelson Galleries in New York. His work has entered major museum and private collections.

The Top 5 Budgeting Techniques Every Young Adult Should Know
Tumblr media
In the roller coaster of life where new experiences and challenges can come at you fast, getting a grip on your finances is crucial. Let’s cut through the noise and explore five tried-and-true budgeting techniques that can put you in the driver’s seat of your financial journey.
The Foundation: Why Budgeting is Essential
Start Early, Thank Later
One of the secrets to a stress-free financial life is starting early. When you begin to budget in your younger years, you are not just counting pennies but also laying the foundation for a stable future. It is like planting a tree, the sooner you do it, the more shade you will enjoy down the road.
Read the Benefits
Proper budgeting does more than just prevent the dreaded end-of-the-month penny-pinching. It sets you up for success:
Save for Goals: Whether it is travel, higher education, or buying a home, a budget helps you put aside funds intentionally.
Avoid Unnecessary Debt: With a clear view of your income and expenses, you can make informed decisions, preventing you from spending more than you can afford to pay.
Achieve Financial Freedom: While it sounds dreamy, it is achievable. A well-maintained budget paves the way for peace of mind, giving you the freedom to live without constant money worries.
The 50/30/20 Rule
The 50/30/20 rule is a straightforward framework to help individuals allocate their income:
Necessities (50%): This segment is not just about survival but it is about maintaining a baseline quality of life. This should cover rent or mortgage, utilities, transportation, basic groceries, health insurance, and debt payments.
Wants (30%): This is not about reckless spending but acknowledging that leisure and entertainment are part of a balanced life. This can cover outings, special occasions, hobbies, dining out, and non-essential shopping.
Savings & Debt Repayment (20%): While part of this goes to savings, it is also about chipping away at any outstanding debt faster than just minimum payments.
Pros
Provide a simple structure ideal for those new to the budgeting process
Ensure you’re saving consistently every month.
Cons
One-size-fits-all percentages might not accommodate everyone’s unique situation.
Could be challenging in areas with a high cost of living.
Zero-Based Budgeting
Every dollar you earn should be put to use, whether that is paying for a service, buying goods, saving, or paying off debt. Each month, your budget should “zero out”:
Record Monthly Income: This includes your regular paycheck, any side hustles, rental income, and other sources.
Itemize Monthly Expenses: Start with fixed expenses (like rent) and then move to variable ones (like entertainment).
Match Income to Expenses: Deduct every expense from your income until you’ve allocated every dollar. If there is money left, put it toward savings or debt. If you are in the red, adjust your expenses.
Pros
Promotes intense awareness of your spending habits.
Can lead to a more frugal lifestyle as you critically evaluate every expenditure.
Cons
Requires frequent attention and adjustments, especially if you have fluctuating income or expenses.
Can be tedious for those not used to detailed financial tracking.
The Envelope System
Actual physical envelopes labeled for each of your expenses. After receiving your paycheck, you distribute cash into each envelope according to your budgeted amounts. When the envelope is empty, that is your cue: no more spending in that category for the month.
Tactile Advantage: The tangible act of handing over cash and seeing an envelope thin out offers a visceral connection to your spending, making you more conscious of your choices.
Digital Variations: With the world moving increasingly towards cashless transactions, use apps to mimic the envelope system with digital “envelopes” to help you allocate and track your spending in the same disciplined manner.
Pros
Provides clear boundaries for spending in each category.
Cultivates awareness and curbs impulsive spending.
Cons
Carrying cash can be inconvenient or even unsafe in some settings.
Might not cater to larger or online transactions.
The Reverse Budget Method
Instead of saving what is left after all expenses, this method flips the script. You decide on a savings goal and immediately set that amount aside when you receive your income. The remainder is then used for expenses.
Savings Commitment: By prioritizing savings, you ensure consistent progress toward financial goals, regardless of how the month’s spending unfolds.
For Variable Incomes: Since traditional budgeting can be hard when income isn’t consistent, reverse budgeting provides a way to ensure savings aren’t overlooked. By setting a percentage or fixed minimum amount to save, it instills discipline, even amidst financial unpredictability.
Pros
Prioritizes long-term financial health and goals.
Simplifies budgeting by focusing on one primary action.
Cons
Requires a strong commitment, as it can be tempting to dip into savings when other expenses arise.
Might not account for unexpected, high-cost necessities.
The Value-Based Budget
Unlike more rigid systems, the value-based budget doesn’t focus primarily on percentages, categories, or envelopes. Instead, it centers on your personal values, ensuring that the way you spend your money aligns with what matters most to you.
Self-Reflection: Begin with introspection. What truly brings joy, purpose, and meaning to your life? Is it travel? Perhaps education, or maybe supporting charitable causes? It is not about what society deems important, but what resonates with you.
Allocate Accordingly: Once you have identified your core values, align your spending to reflect them. This might mean allocating more to experiences over possessions if experiences are what you value most. Or it could mean setting aside a specific portion for charitable donations if giving back is a cornerstone of your values.
Pros
Creates a deep sense of fulfillment, as your spending is intrinsically tied to your passions and beliefs.
Provides flexibility, allowing for shifts in values and priorities over time.
Cons
Requires consistent introspection and honesty about what truly matters.
Lacks the structural rigidity of other methods, which can be a challenge for those who benefit from stricter frameworks.
Tips for Sticking to a Budget
Consistent Reviews
Consistent Reviews: Your financial journey is a living, breathing entity. To ensure you are navigating it efficiently, set aside time at least once a month for a budget review. This allows you to:
Identify areas where you consistently overspend.
Recognize positive patterns and reinforce them.
Adjust for any new income or unexpected expenses.
Set Realistic Expectations
Understand that budgeting is a skill developed over time. As you embark on this journey:
Celebrate small victories. Did you stick to your dining out budget this month? That is a win!
Don’t be disheartened by slip-ups. Instead, view them as learning opportunities. Analyze what went wrong and strategize for the future.
Embrace Flexibility
While discipline is a crucial aspect of budgeting, so is adaptability. Life throws curveballs, unexpected medical bills, car repairs, or other surprise expenses. When these arise:
Avoid panic. Instead, revisit your budget, making temporary adjustments to accommodate these unforeseen costs.
Consider having an emergency fund in place, which can act as a financial cushion for such scenarios.
Remember that every month might not look the same. Holidays, birthdays, or seasonal expenses can alter your spending. Anticipate these variations and adjust your budget accordingly.
Conclusion
Mastering your finances is an evolving journey, not a destination. Embrace the techniques that resonate, be patient with yourself, and remember: every step you take is one step closer to financial empowerment.

In today's episode of the UK hates the disabled: I was at a train station with no tactile paving at the platform edge whatsoever, or any other indicator for the blind/visually impaired that the edge was there. The toilets were out of order as well and it was a big station without individual facilities for each platform- just the ones near the front, which is a massive inconvenience for the abled, let alone people with bowel/ut problems or incontinence.

mannn I'm the a/b/o anon, and congratulations, just read your snippet from the touch G&L fic and now you got me addicted to another serie. It truly felt like being with George in his new cockpit and also the sensations he had towards Lewis were pretty much on point. More please! More of everything! Lol
I’m so glad! I am obsessed with touch, I love writing about the intimacy of tactile contact and how little things can snowball into more.
You get another snippet! Because I’ve been so deep in finishing fuckboy fic I haven’t had time to write for other asks yet, but there’s 15k of this fic waiting, and a lot of it won’t be spoilery
The scene directly following this one below the cut! Be warned, It’s lots of new team George whump.
The longer George spends at Brackley after that, settling into this somewhat new team dynamic, the more he relaxes. It’s odd, he’s been a part of the Mercedes’ family since he was 15, has spent plenty of time here, and in their cars. But this is different, he’s in the true spotlight now, the highest seat he can achieve as a driver. There was still an undercurrent of nervous anxiety that came with a change this big, especially to a team as powerful and precise as Mercedes’, but his time at Williams at least meant he wasn't walking into a complete unknown.
Sometimes he feels like half of his days are spent observing this odd Mercedes’ ecosystem in action. He had been given glimpses before, small glances into a well oiled machine, but it was a lot different to be submerged in the gears yourself. Toto had told him before about how Mercedes functioned as a family as much as it was a team, and he can really see it now. There are in-jokes, everyone knows one another, from race strategists down to custodial staff. In a sense, they are bonded by drive, facing down new unknown regulations feels oppressive some days but George can tell how eager the engineers are to try and tackle a challenge. Fresh off the unacceptable end to the previous season, anyone with eyes could see how Mercedes are itching to enact some kind of revenge, something to soothe the sting of an unfair loss. For a while he’s swept up in the adrenaline of it, the team spirit is infectious after all, but as the reveal of the W13 creeps closer, doubt begins to sink its claws into his back.
While everyone had done their best to make him feel encouraged, George was immensely aware of the high standards he has to live up to. It’s hard not to, Valterri’s time at Mercedes was impressively archived at every turn. Photos, trophies, keepsakes from his time providing crucial support to Lewis. He knows how fond of the Finn many in the team still are, he’s lost count of how many group photos there are, adorning the walls. He had a fair amount of love for the man himself. Despite occasional tussles on track, in a way Valtteri had paved the road George was walking on. Sometimes he catches himself staring at where Valtteri beams among the team photos, tracing where his predecessor fits into the team like a perfect puzzle piece. On other days, George can’t bear to look at them, his skin crawling with anxiety.
What must they think of him, the new driver the team are gambling on. The stakes are higher than ever, and feels woefully out of place, his anxiety and uncertainty clashing harshly with the aloof and manicured reputation of the Silver Arrows. He has to do well, he can’t truly feel like he belongs till he proves to them that he is worth the risk. He’s been training for this for years, they know him, and they expect the best from him. He’s also the first Mercedes junior to be allowed into the seat; all eyes are on him. He doesn’t want to be the mistake that brings them down, Redbull had proved more than once the curse of not having a solid second seat driver can cling for years.
To try and dilute the cloying feeling of worry, George throws himself into the simulator. He spends as long as he can manage each day trying to explore every inch of the virtual version of the car, hopeful the feedback he’s providing the sim operator will be of use, so that he can pull his own weight.
On one of those long days he’s hunched forward in his seat rubbing furiously at tired eyes through his flipped up visor, giving himself a moment to breath before he has to climb out of the car to debrief, when a strong hand lands on his shoulder and squeezes. George manages to prevent himself slamming his head into back support as he looks up in shock, not aware anyone had entered the room with him. He’s met with the kind eyes, and the jauntily raised eyebrow of his teammate (team mate, he’s not sure he’ll ever get used to the fluttery feeling of getting to call Lewis his team mate).
“Working late?” Lewis asks, George can hear a teasing lilt in his voice. “Careful you don’t push it, you won’t be of any use in debrief if you’re falling asleep at the table”
The warm weight of Lewis’s hand is still steady on his shoulder, firm and grounding, and George feels the momentary adrenaline of being surprised replace itself with aching exhaustion. Yet it doesn’t overtake him, as he allows himself just briefly to lean into the contact, choosing for now to ignore the effect such a simple gesture is having on his brain.
Whilst he knew Lewis was working as diligently as he was on the car, George was surprised how little he’d seen the older man. George often only found out Lewis had been in when he was leaving, and whilst part of him felt sad that he had missed Lewis, it also left less opurtunities for him to make a fool of himself.
Like right now.
“Oh uh, yeah, I was just testing something one of the engineers thought of, trying to be useful y’know?” As soon as the words leave his mouth he can see Lewis’s expression tinge with concern, and he curses the filter between his brain and mouth that must have eroded somewhere in the last several hours of calculating turns and testing downforce. He looks at the sims wheel again, already worrying Lewis will think he’s fishing for compliments when he’s stopped by the hand on his shoulder squeezing again.
“Come on, I think I saw Ivo yawning when I came in, they should let you free now” somehow Lewis’ voice is both joking and achingly gentle, and George lets it sink into his over tired muscles as he tugs the helmet off his head, sweaty hair clinging to his forehead despite the coolness of the room itself. He almost hesitates when he sees the hand that was on his shoulder now stretched out and inviting, but instead he takes it, letting tiredness ward off any lingering worry.
Unsurprisingly, Lewis’s hand is warm in his. Calloused, large fingers wrap around George’s long thin ones, and he tugs George upright, letting go when he is standing again. George doesn’t even have time to miss the feeling before the heavy helmet is tugged gently out of his other hand and a palm lands squarely between his shoulder blades, encouraging him to climb out of the car and stabilising him when George’s legs shake from the combined sensation of being able to stretch out and release tension from hours of attacking the curves of digital road.
“I know that feeling, How long have you been in here?” Lewis asks, his hand hasn’t moved from George’s back, even as George leans into the side of the simulator car. Bracing himself with hands either side of his hips as he tries to gather his frazzled thoughts
“I’m… not entirely sure? I think the sun was still up when I came in” George jokes back, and he hears Lewis huff an amused exhale. The hand on his back starts to rub slow circles and George wants to arch into the feeling like a cat, he settles instead on leaning into It ever so slightly, trying to convey silent thanks.
They’re both quiet for a moment, the only noise in the room the sound of fabric shifting as Lewis keeps up a calming rhythm. It should be awkward, but it isn’t, and George lets his eyes shut for a minute.
“George, is everything alright? I can’t say I haven’t done some long hours in here myself, but you look shattered, man. Nobody will be mad if you take a day off y’know”
It’s a joke, George knows it is, but he can’t bring himself to laugh, the anxiety won’t leave him be anymore, he can’t suppress it.
“What if I’m not good enough?”
He feels Lewis’ hand stop moving. Part of George regrets being so honest with Lewis, they barely know each other. But at the same time he feels some of the tension from hiding unwind in his gut, letting him breathe just a little easier.
“Did someone say you aren’t? Someone in the team? The media? It’s all bullshit, George-“ Lewis sounds quietly angry, a fire in his voice usually reserved for when another car has done something stupid on track, but George cuts him off with a quick head shake.
“No, well the Daily Mail maybe but even I know not to read that” that gets an amused snort from Lewis, some of the tight energy in his shoulders dropping away. He lets George continue, and it all comes spilling out.
“The team has been great, honestly everyone is so welcoming, and passionate. But that’s the thing-
What if I let them down? They’re used to Valtteri Bottas, I’m just some guy from Williams who only scored his first points last year”
I know how many people are taking a gamble on me, even more so this year, they spent years designing this car and now I show up, what if I can’t do what you all need?
This is the biggest opportunity I’ve ever had, I want to prove that they made the right choice. Clocking laps in the simulator at least makes me feel like I’m doing something”
The room is silent once again, the weight of George’s confession heavy in the air. Distantly George wonders if Ivo really is asleep next door, or just choosing politely not to eavesdrop.
“Have you talked to Toto about this?” Lewis asks quietly
“No, everyone has been so busy preparing for the release. I don’t think Toto would appreciate playing therapist right now”
“You’d be surprised.” Lewis looks like he’s lost in a thought for a second before he looks at George again. Distantly, George realises this is the closest they’ve ever been, close enough for Lewis to touch him without stretching. George can smell what he thinks is his aftershave from here. He can even make out the beginnings of the tattoo on Lewis’ neck, black feathers stretching up towards the silver earring that glints in the low light. He wonders how he must look in comparison, sweaty and with bruises under his eyes probably.
“You’re enough, George. More than enough. I don’t imagine they told you, but we tried to ask for you in 2021 you know?”
George didn’t know that, and his face must show his incredulous shock, because Lewis continues.
“You were doing so well, but Williams wouldn’t break your contract. I love Valtteri, I wouldn’t have won some of the years we raced together without him. But you’re different George. You’re still hungry. The way you took to the car in Bahrain while I was sick had the factory buzzing for weeks”
“But that was 2020, this is a whole new car-“ This time it’s Lewis’ turn to cut him off, waving the hand not still pressed to George’s back.
“Doesn’t matter, we saw how hard you worked, George. That’s the kind of person we want here. Don’t forget you’re taking a chance on us too. With a drive like yours? I don’t think you’d struggle to get a seat and Mclaren or even one of the Redbulls”
George snorts and raises an eyebrow at Lewis, but the look he gets back is steady and serious.
“Mercedes is a family, George. We don’t throw people out for not adjusting immediately. Toto picked you because he wanted you here. I wanted you here”
The final revelation is a surprise, and George’s breath hitches. They want him. They want George as their driver. Lewis wants him as his team mate. He feels overwhelmed, emotions swirling and fighting to be heard over one another. He wants so badly to believe Lewis. He wants them to want him.
“I’m sorry we haven’t been making you feel welcome, that I haven’t been around to help” George opens his mouth to protest, It’s understandable Lewis needed a break after Abu Dahbi, but Lewis shakes his head and stops him.
“I can’t change the past, neither can you. But moving forward just know, you don’t have to prove yourself. You already did.
Lewis squeezes his shoulder once more, and George tries not to think about the ache returning to his bones as Lewis pulls away. He feels better, though, the soreness of the sim muffled by that fleeting fuzzy sensation. The same one he felt when Lewis winked at him during his seat fitting. George knows distantly what it is, but he doesn’t want to think about it. He's scared it might ruin this new thing before it’s even truly begun.
“Go home, get some rest, George. See you here tomorrow? I could use someone to compare times with” he’s grinning at George again already moving on from the seriousness of their prior conversation. George’s stomach flutters. George grabs his helmet, not feeling quite as heavy as it did before, and follows Lewis out of the room.
“Only if you bring Coffee. Bono told me you had a secret stash of the good stuff” Lewis lets out a surprised laugh, and George’s heart twists, bathed in the new, warm feeling of Lewis’ attention.

Unit 1: Launching into Nature Interpretation
“I hate nature.”
If you were to ask me how I felt about nature when I was a kid, I would have said exactly that. I cried to my parents when they made me go on hikes on vacation. I never understood when my friends raved about camping trips – sounded like too many slugs and bugs for me! I pretended I had asthma so I wouldn’t have to play manhunt in the woods at summer camp. I felt sick on the way to outdoor education centres for field trips; imagining walking on a muddy trail in the cold, hopping over too-big logs, and getting rocks in my shoe put me on edge.
Everyone has their quirks as a kid. Mine was being very comfortable inside my home, and very uncomfortable outside, in nature. I liked things that were controllable, predictable, and comfortable. Anything subject to the whims of nature was a source of fear for me. I’m not sure why it was this way, but it was easy for me to keep my world small for a long time.
Little did I know when I was younger, nature did not have to be a stressor. In fact, it could be a de-stressor. Being accustomed to the indoors is only fulfilling for so long. Eventually, I needed a break from the mundane.
Slowly, I started to step out of my realm of comfortability. It started with things like cracking open the window, just a tad, during a rainstorm to smell and listen. It grew to looking forward to sitting on my porch in the spring every year, on those days where you don’t need to wear a jacket – chilly, but awakening. In recent years, it evolved into going for voluntary walks around the block on my breaks from my first full-time, stationary, back-ache-provoking desk job.
Over time, I stepped out further and further into the outside world. Eventually, I found the beauty and relief in nature’s uncertainty and break of routine. Today, I can say that my relationship with nature serves me as a visual, auditory, tactile, and spiritual wildcard. It is a simple relationship – I am not an adventurous nature-fanatic by any means – but it is enough to give my mind and body both a rest and an adventure at the same time.
Developing a sense of place is a dichotomy. On one face, it involves pointing out unique features of the land to acknowledge its beauty and bring its significance to the forefront. On the other face, it involves seeing familiarity and feeling at home in a space. I don’t think one person specifically provided this to me. Rather, it was over time in glimpses. Sometimes it would be my dad who researches our vacation spots to find the best hike that suits our family’s taste. Sometimes it’s signage on those hikes. Sometimes it’s enthusiastic and welcoming trail guides on nature field trips. Sometimes it’s myself, having a moment of appreciation and sensory intake of my surroundings.
I may not have launched myself into nature since day one, but once I slowly paved my own way into the natural word, I am grateful for the relationship I have with it today.

WE DON'T WANT THIS, MARVEL.
After finishing a tedious eighth episode of She-Hulk, I believe I'm ready to talk about the absolute abomination it made out of this show, single-handedly. @marvelentertainment I really want you to read what I have to say.
Firstly... no beating around the bush, what was that video of Jen for? Is that really what we want for our female superheroes? I remember the same Marvel changing Natasha and Wanda's suits for a more practical approach. The same Marvel that was wading far away from the male gaze, the same Marvel I, among several other viewers my age, had come to fully accept, and all of a sudden we're back to where we began.
The first three phases of the MCU, especially the pre-AoU era, emphasized the fact that Tony Stark was a self-proclaimed "playboy" yet we never got to see any evidence of the same in the movies through media. We never got to see any videos, as such, of him being leaked out in the movies for the world to see. We see Jen discussing "America's ass" with Bruce but we never saw Steve or really any other superhero faced with such an unprecedented situation. I see the way one might say that the video travesty of Jen can be considered "unique" to her struggle as rising up as a superhero, and as any goody two-shoe hero, she is struggling. But is that the struggle we saw Nat go through? The struggle Wanda went through? The struggle Carol had to go through? Is this the way the earlier female superheroes paved for the new generation? I think not. And let's not even talk about how a majority of Jen's personality is defined through her dating life which is absolutely hideous given that she is a lawyer and probably has more substance to her personality than more than half of modern-day superheroes.
There could have been a million scenarios created for Jen to become a controversy for the public. They could have put out her online dating accounts, her browser history, maybe a video of her debating in proposition of something unacceptable like over-consumerism or climate change or something along those lines to show her questionable side in a satirical manner which would ring with the current vibe of the show but no. They had to make it a vulgar video of her. Why? Because she's a lawyer? Because she's attractive? Because she is a beloved public figure? Because in that very episode, she has a debate with Matt about the secret identity of superheroes and how they should be able to keep them secret to keep themselves and their loved ones safe? Is that the standard of irony Marvel is able to create in Phase Four? Well, it isn't very brilliant.
That brings me perfectly to my second argument. Matt. Obviously, because that was not what the character deserves. I am sure everyone clearly sees the stark contrast between him in the MCU and him in the show. In Daredevil, he's shown as practical, tactile, be it chaotic and fundamentally flawed in his thinking in some ways sometimes, but he is a strong character. In his MCU debut in She-Hulk, all that gets horribly parodied to an annoying somebody who projects the hardships of their life onto a new and immature, rising superhero.
Matt has an entirely different experience as a superhero, well technically, he's still just a blind man micro-managing the hell out of the most chaotic 220 square kilometers of NYC with whale-like abilities and his two sticks of determination but that's beside the point. The point I'm trying to make is that he is not a Hulk. Bruce Banner is. Yet he is written off in a scene as mansplaining and ignorant and gets scowled at for not being a woman. He offers aid, solace and reconciliation to Jen at a difficult time in her life and apologizes for something that is not even his mistake, yet she treats him like he is, quite literally, not the only man on the planet who could help her, because she is over-confident of how "strong" and "capable" she is. But no, only Matt can give her advice while actually just projecting onto her his self-destructive, dangerous and hostile lifestyle as a vigilante. Why so? Because he happens to become a potential love interest less than ten minutes later. Him turning from her opponent to an advisor, to a partner in literal crime to a love interest all in a matter of minutes! I still don't understand whether I should find this ridiculous or the fact that this all happened in a single episode, all thanks to echolocation.
The third and last problem and probably the biggest problem with the show is how it introduces into Marvel the leftist agenda. The way Phase Four has been so far is that it allows the female superheroes to walk all over the original male superheroes. The way they are shown without the sort of nuance the male characters have in the way their origin story defines them is.. inconsequential. In fact, the origin story of most of these women actually doesn't exist in the movies at all. I believe this video essay will be able to explain this better than I can as it delves deeper into the topic and explores several facets of the problem. The way we see Jen's training montage and the way she becomes the epitome of "Hulk-ly" glory is toxic and emasculates Bruce, but that is not the only problem, it also undermines his power as it implies that Jen is better than him at what he has been doing for over a decade, albeit she was introduced about half an hour ago.
The leftist agenda is most definitely introduced into Marvel to attract the younger audience and wishes to carry the arena of its viewership elsewhere as the old fans lose interest after the death of Tony, Steve, and Nat. But even after being openly leftist, I am not very satisfied with the imbalance it has created between the male and the female superheroes. There is still the need for the old struggle we saw alongside women empowerment, the Iron Man, Captain America, and Thor movies give us that struggle which is why they are legendary (although I am not very proud of Love and Thunder either). The way we saw the OGs struggle for their place in the world as heroes, even Matt had his struggle, also the Civil War drift and the way it established the MCU OGs as THE BIG ONES. That lacks and that is the entire heart and soul of the superhero movies, that is the reason why No Way Home did so well (because of Tobey and Andrew) but also because it has that old-school struggle that we see heroes go through, which justifies what defines them.
In a nutshell, Marvel Phase Four emerges as toxic and disloyal to the leftist agenda as well as its audiences both young and old with the release of the eighth episode of She-Hulk, and I truly wish they take the right turn from here because if this is the path where Marvel turns wrong, it shatters all the adoration it acquired from the last phases and even after what charade went down in this show, I still believe there is hope for redemption.
Thank you for coming to my Ted talk.

The Evil Dead franchise, known for its humble beginnings and evolution from horror-comedy to darker storylines, continues to grow with this new spinoff, adding depth and diversity to the series. .
This movie is set to follow the trend of releasing new Evil Dead films every two to three years, ensuring a consistent flow of content for fans of the franchise.
These two future horror movies within the Evil Dead saga promise to bring fresh perspectives, new characters, and thrilling narratives that will further enrich the iconic horror franchise.
Tumblr media
The Evil Dead saga has had a profound influence on the horror genre:
Pioneering the Horror-Comedy Blend
The Evil Dead franchise, starting with the original 1981 film, pioneered the blend of horror and comedy that has become a staple in the genre. Director Sam Raimi's willingness to subvert horror tropes and inject dark humor into the films set them apart and inspired countless imitators[4]. The juxtaposition of intense scares with slapstick gags became a signature of the series.
Innovative Camerawork and Practical Effects
The Evil Dead films are renowned for their innovative camerawork, including the iconic "Raimi cam" that simulates the point-of-view of the demonic force. This unique visual style, combined with the extensive use of practical effects for the Deadites and gore, gave the movies a tactile, visceral quality that has influenced many subsequent horror films.
Expanding the Horror Anthology Format
The upcoming Evil Dead spinoff movie is embracing the anthology format, allowing the franchise to tell separate stories with new characters and Deadites without being tied to a connected universe. This approach gives the series more creative freedom to expand and evolve, setting a new trend in the horror genre.
Inspiring Independent Horror Filmmaking
The success of the low-budget original Evil Dead, made by a group of young filmmakers in Detroit, paved the way for other independent horror directors to make their mark on the genre. Romero and Raimi's willingness to take risks and push boundaries has inspired countless others to do the same, leading to a flourishing of diverse and innovative horror films.
In summary, the Evil Dead saga has left an indelible mark on the horror genre through its pioneering blend of horror and comedy, innovative visual style, expansion into an anthology format, and inspiration for independent filmmakers to challenge conventions and take bold creative risks.

BRIDAL SHOP
Exploring the Enchanted World of Bridal Shops: More Than Just Dresses The journey to a wedding day is paved with countless decisions, from the venue to the catering, but perhaps none is as significant or as magical as the choice of the wedding dress. This is where the bridal shop steps in, not just as a retail space, but as a gateway to dreams for countless brides-to-be. Bridal shops do more than sell dresses; they curate moments of joy, excitement, and sometimes, overwhelming emotion. The Heart of Bridal Shops: Beyond Transactions At its core, a bridal shop is a treasure trove of potential 'perfect' dresses for a bride's big day. However, the essence of what makes bridal shops truly special is the experience they offer. The environment of a bridal shop is carefully designed to provide comfort and inspire awe. From plush seating for family members to beautifully lit dressing rooms that make each bride feel like the star of her own fairy tale, every detail is meticulously crafted. The staff at bridal shops often play the role of part consultant, part fairy godmother. They are skilled in reading the emotions and preferences of brides, guiding them through racks of gowns ranging from the classic to the avant-garde. Their expertise is not just in fashion but in handling the emotional nuance of making a decision that feels monumental. Diversity in Style and Substance Today’s bridal shops cater to a wide variety of tastes, sizes, and budgets. Traditional gowns with long trains and intricate lacework share space with modern minimalist designs, bohemian ruffles, and even colorful non-traditional dresses. The rise of inclusivity in fashion has thankfully spilled over into bridal wear, with more shops now offering a broader range of sizes and styles that celebrate diverse body types. Moreover, bridal shops are increasingly mindful of the various cultural significances of wedding attire. It is now common to find bridal shops that offer outfits that cater to different cultural traditions, acknowledging the importance of heritage and identity in wedding celebrations. The Business of Bridal Shops From a business perspective, bridal shops operate in a unique niche. Unlike regular fashion retail, the inventory is often more expensive and the stock slower-moving. Each sale carries significant value, and the level of personalized service expected is high. The advent of online shopping has touched the bridal industry as well, with virtual consultations and fittings becoming more commonplace, especially post-pandemic. Nevertheless, the tactile experience of feeling fabric and trying on a gown continues to draw brides into physical stores. Successful bridal shops understand the importance of evolving with trends not only in fashion but in how they deliver experiences. Social media has become a pivotal tool, with shops showcasing their dresses, happy brides, and detailed décor to inspire and attract new customers. Instagram and Pinterest, in particular, are platforms where bridal shops can visually communicate their brand and aesthetic directly to a bridal audience. Challenges and Rewards Running a bridal shop comes with its unique set of challenges. The seasonal nature of weddings means there can be peaks and troughs in business. Managing inventory and ensuring a range of styles and sizes while keeping up with trends requires diligent planning and keen market insight. However, the rewards are equally unique. Bridal shop owners and staff often share in deeply personal moments of joy and triumph. There is a profound satisfaction in knowing that they played a part in one of the most memorable days of a person's life. Conclusion Bridal shops are more than just places to buy a wedding dress; they are the holders of dreams and the makers of memories.

City Lifelines: The Timeless Power of Metro Trains in Hyderabad
Metro trains, also known as subway trains, underground trains, or rapid transit trains, are a vital component of urban transportation systems worldwide. These trains possess several distinct characteristics that make them uniquely suited for efficient and reliable mass transit within densely populated cities. Below are some key characteristics of Hyderabad metro trains:
1. High Capacity: Metro trains are designed to accommodate large numbers of passengers during peak hours. They typically feature spacious carriages with multiple seating and standing areas, maximizing the number of people they can transport at any given time.
2. Dedicated Infrastructure: Metro trains operate on dedicated tracks, often underground or elevated, separate from other modes of transportation such as cars and buses. This exclusive infrastructure helps minimize delays and ensures smoother, uninterrupted travel for commuters.
3. Rapid Transit: As the name suggests, metro trains provide rapid transit within urban areas, offering frequent services with minimal stops between stations. This swift mode of transportation enables commuters to traverse long distances across the city in a relatively short amount of time, making it an attractive option for daily travel.
4. Fixed Routes: Metro train systems typically follow fixed routes with predetermined stops, connecting major residential, commercial, and cultural centers within the city. This fixed-route network provides commuters with a reliable and predictable means of transportation, facilitating efficient travel planning and accessibility.
6. Automated Operations: Many modern metro train systems incorporate automated technologies for train control and operation. These systems utilize advanced signaling and communication systems to regulate train movements, optimize scheduling, and ensure safe and efficient operation along the network.
7. Accessibility: Metro trains are designed to be accessible to passengers of all ages and abilities. Stations and trains feature amenities such as ramps, elevators, tactile paving, and designated seating areas to accommodate individuals with disabilities and facilitate barrier-free access for everyone.
8. Safety and Security: Safety is paramount in metro train systems, with extensive measures in place to ensure the well-being of passengers and staff. This includes surveillance cameras, emergency intercoms, fire suppression systems, and trained personnel stationed at stations and aboard trains to respond to emergencies and maintain public safety.
9. Integration with Other Modes of Transport: Metro train systems are often integrated with other modes of public transportation, such as buses, trams, and commuter rail services. This multimodal connectivity enables seamless transfers between different transit options, providing commuters with convenient and efficient door-to-door travel solutions.
In summary, metro trains play a crucial role in urban mobility by offering high-capacity, rapid, and reliable mass transit services within densely populated cities in India. With their dedicated infrastructure, electric-powered operation, and focus on safety and accessibility, metro trains continue to be a cornerstone of sustainable transportation systems worldwide.
