This one is also unfinished but it doesn't end on a cliffhanger or anything so it definitely doesn't take away from the experience

definitely dusk, a sandman dreamling fic! MCD isn't usually my thing, but I really wanted to explore that in this fic.

oooh hmm. "happy ending" is super vague to me ngl, but for most traditionally "and they lived happily ever after," I'll go with my soukoku royalty AU, thy kingdom come.

oooh I've never gotten explicit hate! I've gotten unsolicited concrit and some more bizarre comments that I've ignored before though haha.

9. Do you write smut?

nope! I've written some more suggestive scenes in some of my fics (Let the River Rush In and circus freak, for example), but for the time being at least I'm not really interested in writing it.

10. Do you write crossovers?

Yes! The Promise of the World, which is a natsuyuu/howl's moving castle crossover, and Letters from Heaven, which is a HQ/Violet Evergarden crossover. Crossovers to me are really fun thought exercises; I like to see how certain events or characters can be interpreted in another canon.

(I still need to see the last movie...)

ooh! hmm, I'd probably say interiority? love me some good introspection. a lot of my more recent fics especially are just excuses to dive into my faves' heads while something else happens in the background

Brainrot Trash Idea about Shin and Baylan

So I've been seeing a fair amount of stuff about Baylan and Shin, and bc I'm a Sucker for Father-Daughter characters, decided to play with a few headcanons. None of which are remotely close to Canon and a few AUs bc I can.

General HC Rambling

* Shin is Baylan's actual daughter. Yeah, I know she's (99%) not in canon but look. The idea of Baylan having and then training his own daughter to be something greater than the Jedi lives rent-free in my head.

* He got Shin from a young age to refer to him as "Master" instead of "Father" for both their sakes. Smother the risk of attachment and keep them both safer should the Empire catch on. (Jokes on him, because both of them are very attached to each other).

(For Shin, there actually isn't a real difference between terms; for her, calling him "Master" is her just saying "Father". He is her father, not her mentor, in her POV. She just uses a different word is all. (Help them, plz)).

* On that not of terminology, been thinking and I know it's probably just a harmless/unimportant honorific, but the fact Baylan has the title of Lord makes my brain go "what if Baylan was actually of noble origins?". Which then shifts into "Shin having a separate last name from her father is due to Baylan gifting her his mother's maiden name, for the same reasons he has her refer to him as her mentor instead of parent". It's also a way, in his twisted mind, to honor his family nobility when he himself failed it (by being a Jedi).

(Also imagine the Skoll/Hati family coat of arms being *wolves*)

* I even got genealogy HC worked out cause- "well Shin doesn't look like Baylan". And yes but hear me out: she takes after another relative of his (sister, mom, aunt, grandmother, etc.). Maybe she reminds him of his mom, idk. But if so, maybe that's why he gives her the surname Hati? As a quiet honoring? Either way, she takes after his family members, just not him strictly lol.

* (I'll be honest, her hair looked dyed and frankly speaking, I do HC Baylan as being a dark brunette before he went full Grey, so not a far stretch to also consider her inheriting his hair at least.)

* Back on the Hati surname, thinking more also led to "its a family name but farther back in lineage before it got changed to Skoll somewhere down the line". Kinda like how the Bakarn family in SWTOR used to be the Bakvalens before it got changed to a more common surname. Either way, the name Skoll puts a target on Shin's back and Baylan isn't taking that risk.

* (Ngl, part of me now wants to play w the idea of Baylan actually being a descendant of the Bakarn family. Idk if he'd be related to Syo tho, for obvious reasons.)

*Regarding upbringing, Baylan was a single dad front day 1, raising Shin on the run. Who the other parent is or if she even has one, no one knows. (Mostly bc I'm lazy and single dad Baylan lives rent free in my head). They mostly drifted from place to place, never really calling somewhere home. Hence another reason why Shin is very attached to Baylan; he's her only source of stability. He is "home".

*Leaving Shin was hard for her, but it was also hard for Baylan. It's not that he doesn't love his daughter. He absolutely does. But he's driven by personal ambition to seek this unknown power on this strange world and that takes priority. And truthfully, it's dangerous. He knows it's dangerous. But it calls to him in a way he can't ignore. In a way Shin can't hear. And if For her sake. Even if tearing away from her rips him in pieces; it's dangerous what he's doing and he won't drag her into it.

(Mentally he tells himself he's doing this all for her. For a better future, for her.)

(Shin, of course, is too attached to her father to actually leave the planet.)

AU VERSE HC

On another hand, been seeing a fair amount of Baylan/Morgan content lately and THAT got me thinking of "Shin is a Baylan/Morgan child". Which...

-Half-Dathomiran Shin. Half-Dathomiran Shin with Morgan's markings.

-Shin whose been raised by a human most of her life, who isn't at all attuned to her Nightsister half. Who doesn't really know Morgan and probably is unaware she's her parent.

-Shin who isn't attuned to her Nightsister heritage, suddenly experiencing summons of green fire and magic when her parents leave her behind for their own paths.

This is a fic I wish I could go back and read for the first time all over again, but then again, rereading it is also so satisfying because you pick up on everything you missed the first time around. It's so clever and the build up is so well done, and I'll probably always think about this one when I think of a fic with an excellent twist.

TMFU: Cold Frost and Sunshine by @somedrunkpirate

I think this might be the first hockey AU I'd ever read, and it's still one I think about often. The trajectory of this enemies-to-friends-to-lovers fic is perfect, the characters' growth is wonderful, and it's also one of my favorite treatments of a public coming out I've read in a fic.

This one lives rent free in my head because I just love Loki and Mobius' relationship, how they work together (and don't work together) at the reformed TVA, some of my favorite h/c tropes, the ridiculous but so perfect tv shows, and (again) the twist at the end.

13K or pure rhaegon intensity and UNADULTERATED HORNY ANGST! a comfort read fic for me. im just so obsessed with my version of aegon in that and how like he’s damaged from rhaenyra leaving him for 5 years and he coped with that loss with drinking himself into oblivion, then after he’s responsible for their father’s death (due to the heavy drinking) he has to go to rehab and become sober and face his abandonment and anger issues and then ofc him and rhaenyra dealing with that at their childhood cabin…aegon being all grown up and rhaenyra drinking and oof fuck and begging for his forgivness !!!! it’s JUST !!! the sexual tension and OH THE BELT SCENE it lives rent free in my mind ngl. i want to write SO much for this series. i have filthy ideas for it…i just also adore writing switch-dom-service top aegon SO MUCHHH!!! this scene in particular makes me RABID to this day!!!

my other fave is dragon seer; seered by sunlight…helaena standing up for herself to aegon and then taking charge with aemond as she rides him feeling in charge for the FIRST time in her life 🤌🏻 it’s the most poetically and beautiful written fic ive written and i don’t think i will ever top the visuals!

since the touya being impregnated while in the coma au lives rent free in my mind:

how soon before touya woke up was his last baby? would he, after leaving, be dealing with the physical symptoms of just giving birth. what about the mental symptoms? i just did a deep dive into postpartum psychosis cases and Holy Shit.

would touya figure out what was wrong with him? like, if he's selling himself to get by, they keep on mentioning how loose he is. and he's like "??? ive been in a coma for years. how??"

OR... have you ever heard of a husband stitch? i can see ujiko doing that to him unless he liked the feeling of touya being all used up. i can also see enji having rei get the stitch, ngl

Oooh an excuse to ramble. Alright so like. Piece by piece here:

How soon before he woke up was his last pregnancy? Think it depend on if the pregnancies were intentional or not. My usual hc with the coma stuff is that they were trafficking Touya (and the other facility patients,) so if we go with the hc that he got pregnant because Johns/staff/whoever didn't use protection and knocked him up once or twice. It could be anywhere from recently to two years prior. On the flip side, the whole hc they were intentionally knocking him up to sell off the babies, then you'd think they'd be trying to get as many out of him as they can. They'd let him go full term (38-40 weeks at most) then do the C-section and knock him up again soon after (you can get pregnant as little as 3 weeks after birth), by those conditions assuming there werent any hiccups (miscarriages, abortions bc of medical issues, trouble getting him pregnant again) he could have had 3 kids during those 3 years, with the most recent one being within a few months of waking up.

The post partum psychosis thing: I actually gave him post partum psychosis in timh after he miscarried, and I have some personal experience with it as well so I know a bit about it. Normally severe symptoms can last up to three months, but if the person has other mental issues like depression, psychotic disorders, or personality disorders it can last much longer- especially if the pregnancy or birth was traumatic, if they have to support or access to treatment, or the person is in a stressful environment. So like since Touya has mental disorders, the whole situation was traumatic, and he was alone on the street with no resources and zero support; he could definitely have post partum long, long after his last pregnancy.

As for how he'd find out; there's a lot of ways. Since he was in a coma he probably had a C-section, meaning he'd have a scar from that. Plus pregnancy changes your body drastically, especially teen pregnancy, so he'd notice some differences. Those things might be ignored though because he had A LOT of changes to his body during the coma, between 3 years going by and being medically experimented on, that's a whole lot of changes he might not notice the other stuff right away. Plus he'd be in a state of shock and probably in survival mode on the street, it would take a while for that to wear off enough for him to even take note of things. The idea that he figures it out while doing sex work is a good one, very ouchie. I actually have a fic about him finding out about at least the sa/trafficking while doing sex work, here.

Often the fics i love for comfort are hurt comfort, which makes reading them when Im sad a risky move, and i end up making myself more sad than not 😭

A dusty tomb is so simple, yet so effective, and it's just honestly really cute without being super cheesy and aaaa i love it sm and tysm for writing it cause it's honestly like one of the things that helps me the most rn whenever im sad, besides yknow, healthy coping mechanisms LMAOO, dont worry i gen do those too, but sometimes u just need a quick read before bed. Okayyy, existential crisis about time aside, it's a good fic. A really good fic. Genuinely one of my fav fics ever (tho i feel like i wanna reread the clinic prequel ngl... that was my go to comfort fic before a dusty tomb came around. I havent read that one in awhile). I just love fantasy aus so much, more than any other au, and goshhh it has all the best tropes in it and and and and *dies*

I dont think I'll ever get bored of this fic, considering it's been out for 4 months, and it still feels fresh to me

Hey, so since Halloween is quickly approaching I had some werewolf questions! 1) What is Mickey and Reuben's favorite couple's costume? 2) If Red Sky had to do a pack costume, what do you think they would do? (Is it bad that my mind immediately went to Star Trek, Star Wars, or The Addams Family?)

HALLOWEEN BABEY !!! while i'm not doing anything for the holiday, sadly, it's fun to think about the werewolf au dressing up and having fun lol thank you M for sending this in.

Mickey and Reuben's favorite couple's costume is Luke Skywalker and Din Djarin (lemme tell you what....I ship it and so does Mickey. Hardcore.) Reuben goes as Luke and Mickey as Din.....they carry around a little Grogu plushie....but once they have their own little one they dress them up as well.

Mickey is just consistently a huge pop culture nerd

OKAY BUT GROUP COSTUMES WITH RED SKY

I absolutely adore the idea of Mickey making all of them dress up in Star Trek uniforms (Jake....does not mind the skirt on Ronnie the absolute horndog) They dress the kids up as little aliens lol

and Star Wars???? Reuben and Mickey are still Luke and Din obvs. But Jake and Ronnie as Han and Leia?? Javy wants to be Vader but ends up being Chewie (he gets into it, figures out how to use the wolf growl to make The Noise). Frank gets to be Vader, that just fits him perfectly. The kids can be droids....that makes me laugh lol

THE ADDAMS FAMILY!!!!!!! Frick.......I am in love with that concept. Though I 100% think Ronnie would want to go as Cousin Itt ngl lol so Jake is probably Lurch or something.....does that leave Reuben and Mickey as Morticia and Gomez?? probably lol

But MY first thought when I thought of group costumes was The Muppets....for some reason lol Jake as Kermit, Ronnie as Miss Piggy, Javy as Fozzy Bear, Reuben as Gonzo, Mickey as Rizzo, and maybe Frank as Sam the Eagle. That entire concept lives in my heard rent free now lol and the kids get dressed up as like Animal, Bunsen, Beaker, and the baby is Camilla the Chicken lollllll

God I just love them so much. Rockin up to the Halloween Fest in the best costumes there just cause Mickey and Reuben are hardcore dedicated (and are also determined to win the prize each year now that things are semi normal)

Other Group costume options just cause I can't stop thinking them up: Cast of Peter Pan, Toy Story would be cute, LoTR, Avengers, just a bunch of lumberjacks and the kids are little werewolves lollllll

(1) Do you daydream a lot before you write, or go for it as soon as the ideas strike? Typically yeah, like a lot lol, the ideas form and develop into whole scenes in my mind before I decide if I want to bother writing it down

(20) Do you prefer writing AUs or canon fics? Well I've definitely written more AU stuff, what can I say? I like puttin my guys in funky places

(25) What’s your favorite part of the writing process (worldbuilding, brainstorming/outlining, writing, editing, etc)? If I actually have the motivation and inspiration I'd say being able to just sit down and clack away until you've got like 2k words is a lot of fun

(40) What is your favorite world that you’ve created for a fic? Okay SO- I would say the Hels dimension in my Go to Hels fic because it's the most developed - but honestly that one oneshot I did with the middle-of-nowhere Texas town full of cryptids lives rent-free in my mind...been considering revisiting it ngl
