I hold the firm belief that if someone slapped Vil and yelled at him a little bit before he overblotted, he wouldn’t have gone haywire.

I think if they had switched how people reacted with Riddle and Vil, we would’ve saved two overblots. Riddle just wanted some comfort and recognition that he was going through a hard time and needed a hug. Vil wanted someone to keep him accountable.

Rook and Kalim gave Vil empathy and reassured him that he hadn’t made a fatal mistake, which would’ve helped Riddle calm down and think rationally. Ace decked Riddle to make him own up to his crimes and behavior, which Vil would’ve benefited from.

That’s what I’m doing in my first Vil fanfic. I’m having MC smack Vil into not overblotting. I’m having a bit too much fun.

Idk how we would’ve ever defused the Riddle situation… probably by pulling him aside and giving him a hug or something… Aww, wait, that might work and be cute. Awwww, I can see that. Tell me if you think so too and I might write it later.

Short Lilia & Cater friendship analysis.

So I touched on this a bit in my Cater Diamond OB fic, Kill the Lights, but I think Lilia and Cater have a very interesting relationship. For the most part, Lilia seems to treat the other students at NRC like amusing children he has to help guide. Which makes sense because he’s 800 years old and has a lot of experience. It’s understandable why he would see himself as a mentor figure for most of the student body, not just his charges in Diasomnia. 

Cater however is different. Usually, when we see them together, he treats Cater like an equal. Very rarely is Lilia shown to rely on someone else for an answer, but he has done so with Cater. In fact, in Cater’s SSR Halloween Card you can see a lot of their dynamic in this light. He listens to Cater when Malleus is being harassed, his friend being able to talk him down from a more violent course of action rather easily. When Lilia is notoriously hard to reason with when he has his mind set on a course of action and tends to seem put off when people won’t listen to him. 

Even earlier in Cater’s SSR  Halloween story, they’re talking about Cater’s lack of connection to people, and Lilia talks like he sees wisdom in Cater’s words (I at first thought this was a bit of character assassination on Lilia’s part but given how chapter 7 is going, I can’t help but wonder if it was more foreshadowing) 

And even in the end, when Cater’s left standing off to the side as Diasomnia has their bonding moment. I think this is more indicative of how Lilia sees Cater, rather than anything else. Lilia sees Cater as someone who can handle himself, and who doesn’t need someone to mentor or comfort him. Cater ends up bitter here, but that’s a post for another day. 

About the only times we really see Lilia relaxed is when he’s with Cater, and to an extent Kalim, but Lilia is shown more often with Cater. Especially in the main story, where they pretty much spend Chapter 5 together, given Kalim is pulled for the VDC team. 

And it sounds like Lilia may have intended to stay in contact with Cater when he attempts to leave during chapter 7, because Cater tells him to hit him up on Magicam whenever he wants, and Lilia doesn’t say anything about not being able to like he has with some of the others. If he’d deactivated his account, I’m sure that’s something Cater would have realized given how often he’s on it. But he doesn’t confirm he will either, so that’s up for interpretation. 

Overall, Lilia seems to genuinely like and respect Cater in a different way than everyone else around him. 

This is pure theorizing/thoughts and whatnot, but part of me wonders if Cater doesn’t remind Lilia of one of Malleus’s parents. Or at least made him feel like he did when they were young and still in his life. I doubt this is something that ever gets covered in canon, because of how Cater tends to get treated in the overall narrative, but It may be something I play with in a future fanfiction.

Kuro: *Yells as Golden kicked him right in the stomach, sending him flying into Livia when she tried to stand*

Freminet: KURO!!

Livia: *Lays unconscious, Kuro on top of her*

Golden(Overblot): *Floats towards them, his eyes narrowed*

Vil: *Reaches towards him, Rook and Rozzie holding him back* GOLDEN!!!! STOP!

Golden: *Lifts his hands, a large sword flying down towards Livia and Kuro*

Freminet: *Stares with wide eyes then launches himself forward, pulling out the sword Lilia gave him* NOT THEM!!!

Freminet: *Blocks the sword, his eyes wide as his own sword started to crack* I won't...I'll never...

Golden: *Scowls putting more pressure*

Fremiet: *Closes his eyes and steadies his breath as tears threatened to fall at the thought of loosing Livia and Kuro* Never! Never!! NEVER!!!

Freminet: *Opens his eyes then tosses the sword backwards, his own sword shattering in the process* I'LL NEVER LET YOU HURT MY SISTER AND BROTHER!!!!

Livia: *Staggers up, touching her head and stands on Freminet's right* Thanks...Fremi...

Kuro: *Stands on Freminet's left, plucking two feathers and enlarging them making feather blades* Yeah, thanks lil bro...

Freminet: *Nods and looks at Golden, gripping his half broken sword*

Twst Chapter 5 really pisses me off

I haven't fully completed it yet but Vil really does my head in. Like hello? You are a guest in Ramshackle so act accordingly. This is not Pomefiore, you do not have jurisdiction over what everyone eats, or THE FUCKING RIGHT TO POISON ANYONE!!

I especially hate how we/Yuu just allow this??? Like they complain to a certain extent but our choices when he said we wouldn't get punished for not eating sugar and to go to bed was between "yes sir" and "sorry guys" (we're leaving the others to their fate) Like wtf??? Do we not have control over what goes on in Ramshackle??? We're just leaving our friends paralysed on the floor because some prissy bitch decided? I'll repeat, Vil is a guest. Crowley even says that maybe one day we'll have more students in Ramshackle to look after which means we're technically a housewarden but (as a redditor phrases it) 'with the power to mettle in whoever's dorm [we] see fit' (i.e. us handling the overblots) so Vil is not allowed to punish other students, especially ones that don't belong in his dorm. The fact we're just so docile and compliant to this is just further enabling behaviour that just shouldn't be allowed. Fair enough if it was in Pomefiore where he has the authority as housewarden to enact these rules BUT WHEN LIVING IN A DORM THAT ISN'T YOUR OWN YOU SHOULD ASK BEFORE INSTILLING RULES. I just hate how we do not have a backbone at all, despite being told how blunt we can be and sometimes impulsive, which I don't really see since the dialogue options are mild at best. The only time I find that claim to be true is in chapter 3 when Leona says we threatened to ruin his sleep every night if he didn't help us, and even then Ruggie mentions how he only helped because he had incentive to which aligned with what we wanted him to do.

Going back to the original point, Vil needs to learn his fucking place and Yuu needs to grow a fucking backbone. He even calls us/Yuu manager, so as manager, and prefect, let's exert authority by making him learn his right from wrong. Why should we even need to do this? He should learn that himself, he's not a baby and we're not his parent (but given some of the fics I read hints to his upbringing not being so great) however if we need to be a condescending shit towards him then I'm fully on board. He and his dumb nicknames can both exit the Ramshackle premises because he is NOT welcome with that attitude and behaviour.

If he continues we should just threaten him with housing Neige at Ramshackle during his visit at NRC.

idk if this is just a me thing or a common occurrence but at multiple points in the pomfiore chapter I really was just completely ready to deck vil and go annoy leona into letting me sleep on his floor again. Fuck canon, and fuck that whole situation, my trust issues would’ve had me starving myself in my own home after that cake incident

This is from Vil x Reader -- Overblot Slap:

“Please, don’t look at me… Stop looking at me like that!” Vil screams, cowering away from you. “Why? I wanted to become the most beautiful in the world, but why am I so–so ugly! I’m so ugly!” 

The dorm leader clutches his hair, hyperventilating. Poisonous gas seeps into the hallway.

“Roi de Poison, you’re not ugly,” Rook refutes.

You give him an incredulous expression. Vil looks pretty ugly to you. He hasn’t looked good since you became an unwilling participant in the reality TV show that’s his life. He has such an obsessive and self-important attitude. It pisses you off. 

“Yeah! Neige and Rook didn’t drink the juice!” Kalim agrees. 

You gape at Kalim with wide eyes. Is he excusing Vil’s actions? That man attempted murder! He might not have done irreversible physical damage, but you have psychological trauma. It’s been accumulating since day one. You can’t do this anymore. You have to hit him before he overblots. As a magicless student, you’re pushed to the sidelines during overblot fights. However, you have a personal grudge against Vil. You’ve put up with his pretentious behavior in your house for a month. You’re going to express your feelings with your fists.

“Please, Vil, come to your–”

You stomp up to Vil and slap him. The sound reverberates off the walls. He stares at you. His eyes are wide, and he has a searing red handprint on his face. One of his gloved hands brushes over it in disbelief. You put your hands on your hips.

“Yeah, you’re ugly,” you confirm. “You’ve been acting ugly for a while now. You almost murdered Neige because of your stupid ego and inferiority complex. Not everything is about you. You don’t get to decide you’ve lost the competition before you’ve even performed. You have a whole team behind you. You’re not being a good leader.” 

There’s a period of silence. The dorm leader stares at you. After a moment, you slap him again. 

“Your face pisses me off,” you explain, “Get your act together and stop whining. You have other things to do, like apologizing.”

(this is the first page of the Overblot Slap fanfic. u're welcome and i'm sorry. u're going to be so mad at me. this isn't going to come out in a while. i'm mostly working on Rook x Observant Reader. Then, the Dreaming of You series... however... I will say that once I get Riddle and Azul's finished, I might work on this more)

Ignihye student #2: *looks towards Idia cause he's actually there in person* Um.... Housewarden? What do we do?

Idia: *shrugs* Idk. Make another one?

Pomefiore was the last plot i follow before real life made me forget about our silly boys. How bad has the plot become now for our gang? Also who is that Gojo looking guy?

anon, I am so sorry and I mean this in the best way, but I do think episode 5 is the absolute funniest place to have stopped following Twst because shit starts escalating SO fast after that. episode 6 literally starts with a secret government shadow agency breaking down our doors and kidnapping students. zero to a million instantly.

and like...that's not even the zaniest thing so far? Ortho's hacked into the collective human unconscious. there's time travel (sort of). "Crowley might be Malleus' long-lost father" is a serious theory. if you'd told me any of this back pre-episode 6, I would have asked for the link to this unbelievable but highly intriguing fanfic.

also, episode 7 gave us (and then immediately took away 😔) the best character in the whole story:

No but on a more serious note. I focused on Jamil here coz my boi just can't catch a break, but the truth is that Book5, for as much as I love it, really doesn't have a satisfying ending.

It's not a matter of "we lost" and me being salty about it, obviously it was very important for Vil's character arc.

Buuuuut... Well, it wasn't the only character arc started in this Book. All previous Books were (mostly) completely focused on the overblotter and the previous overblotter that joined the frayed to help out. Here we don't just have a continuation of Jamil's character arc, there was also Epel and Deuce who got a big thing, and Kalim had a throwaway line that never got anywhere (and I'm salty about it. I wished we heard more about how he felt competitiveness towards Jamil for the first time).

In the context of Jamil and Epel's character arc mostly, losing the SDC is extremely unsatisfying. Jamil finally got handed the spotlight and accepted it, and he still failed. Even when he get the one thing he wants he still ends second. Nothing changes. Rip my forever Number Two loser.

Epel also got a whole arc about accepting to weaponize his cuteness. It falls flat. His finally using his cuteness doesn't make the team win, he doesn't one up Neige, he doesn't fulfill his role as Vil's poisonous apple. Just bad.

If they really just focused on Vil for this Book like they did in previous Books, that ending would have been much stronger. But with the numerous character arcs there, I feel like there should have been another way so that they could all have their respective good ending.
