Omg thank god this movie didnt happen. These all sound like things Peter Parker would never, in a million years do. Fans would have been pissed as hell. Luckely we got no way home instead, where we got a dignified goodbye for Toby’s Spider-man

The cancellation of Spider-Man 4

Twelve years ago today, on January 11th 2010, the planned fourth entry in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man series was cancelled.

After being disappointed with Spider-Man 3, Raimi had hoped to redeem himself with this fourth instalment, which he hoped would be be the best in the series. Both Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst were set to return as Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson, respectively.

Unfortunately, Raimi hated the film's proposed plot, which reportedly would've involved:

- Peter and MJ being married and living with their son.

- Adrian Toomes (AKA The Vulture) buying out the Daily Bugle.

- Spider-Man deliberately killing the Vulture during a fight, causing his daughter (Vultress) to swear revenge.

- Peter cheating on MJ with either the Vultress or Felicia Hardy (AKA Black Cat), with one of these parts being played by Anne Hathaway.

- The movie would've ended with Peter getting a divorce, losing custody of his child and deciding to give up being Spider-Man. Again.

Sounds like a train wreck.

After four script revisions (and disliking all of them), Sam Raimi stepped down from the project due to doubts that he could get a script that he liked while meeting the film's planned May 6th 2011 release date.

Sony instead chose to reboot the franchise with Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man in 2012, with Andrew Garfield playing the title role.
