Other than Star Wars, what movies or shows do you think Simon and Izzy like to watch together?

Oh, FUCK YEAH. SIZZY ASK HOURS.

They both give off the vibe of adoring geeky nonsense, so I think they'd be all over a personal favourite of mine: Scott Pilgrim vs The World. Simon would absolutely love the special effects of the evil exes turning to coins, and Izzy would criticise everything that the characters are doing wrong in action scenes. Also you cannot convince me that Simon has not called Isabelle "his Ramona Flowers" and been met with an "I'm not your pixie dream manic girl," which Simon just loses it at because it's totally out of order since she just discovered the concept. Much like the book that is also a face.

In any case, another saga that I think they would enjoy is Lord of the Rings. I've never seen it, but I think it would be a movie that they like because of its classic nerd value.

I personally and selfishly want them to be Good Omens junkies and ship the Ineffable Husbands. I think Thomas and Alastair would likely be Good Omens fans if they lived in the present day, so I only hope that Isabelle will follow in her husband's tradition. I think that for a con Simon dresses up as an eerily accurate Aziraphale and Isabelle dresses as a Sexy! Female! Crowley, and they have a blast.

Another show that I definitely think Simon made Isabelle watch is Firefly, which got her interested in Joss's other work. When she learned about Buffy, it was absolutely something she HAD to see. They end up watching the entire show together. Isabelle strongly relates to Buffy in a myriad of ways, and Simon finds it so funny and cute.

They also definitely watch anime together, and sometimes they do so with Clary and Jace (since Clary and Simon are both anime nerds). My stupid little obsessed brain likes to think Simon appreciates the Classics and adores Urusei Yatsura, and Isabelle adores Lum and VITRIOLICALLY hates Ataru at first (but he grows on her). I think she'd adore Benten, while Simon would argue that Ran is the "hotter space babe". And Isabelle would be like, "Ran will kill you." And Simon will be like, "Oyuki is no better. You'll freeze." Which is true.

But anyway, they definitely have also seen every Ghibli film. Simon's favorite is Howl's Moving Castle, and Isabelle likes it but prefers Spirited Away because of all the monsters. It's like, an AU Downworld.

2. Herongraystairs - YES, I AM NOT DIVIDING IT AS WESSA AND JESSA BECAUSE THEY BELONG TOGETHER, change my mind (YOU CAN'T) This was the first time in my entire life when I read a book and couldn't decide which love interest I prefer, so I just didn't 😍 I can't believe how cc wrote them so perfectly, truly peak

3. Thomastair - I had a hard time deciding if they are nr 3 or 4 but I feel like I prefer them slightly more than nr 4 BECAUSE Alastair is so incredibly brave. After all that happened with his father, he still did everything to protect Cordelia and Sona. His character development is one of the best in the whole tsc. And Thomas my sweet summer child 😭 his kindness is out of this world. TO THIS DAY I remember those fucking Paris dates 😭😭😭😭

4. Malec - Cc can really write her mlm couples. Their devotion to each other 🥺 I will forever remember that Alec was the first shadowhunter Magnus ever dated because well he was a Downworlder but Alec saw so much more in him 😭 ok I'm gonna keep this short cause it will take me forever to answer 🤣

5. Gracetopher - YES I KNOW IT DIDN'T HAPPEN BUT IT HAPPENED IN MY HEART. In my mind my little asexual genius couple live happily ok? Grace is such a misunderstood character, she's a child of abuse, she was made to do so many bad things, manipulated as hell but she still wanted to change and be good. And Christopher 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 MY POOKIE I CAN'T SPEAK ABOUT HIM CAUSE I'M GONNA CRY

6. Jordelia - Cordelia was, is and always will be THE bad bitch. The ending of chain of gold when she told EVERYONE that she and James were fucking? ICOOONIC. But she's the bravest baby ever. James is this cute and gentle young man but in reality he will kill you 😍 they complete each other PERFECTLY, the tension between them in chain of iron changed me as a person, I will never be the same. ALTHOUGH they would be so much higher if not for chain of thorns... Like... This book just destroyed so many things I can't ☠️

7. Blackstairs - The tension between them when Emma was "dating" Mark, oh good god glorious. You know, Julian actually reminds me so much of James but he's SO MUCH MORE DISASTROUS, he's a fucking menace and I love that. His sexy brain did things to me 😎 Emma, my second bad bitch (I guess Cortana wielders are all that way) killing a Rider of Mannan??? I'm a goner for girl fighters. MY NEXT JACE HERONDALE. Julian will forever need Emma and Emma will forever need Julian 💕

8. Markkierantina - My poly cuties 🥺 it was the same as with herongraystairs, I couldn't decide if I want Mark with Cristina, Mark with Kieran or Kieran with Cristina, but cc corrected her mistake with herongraystairs and made them all smash. Amazing. Cristina was a key to make Mark and Kieran's relationship work, that's all I'm gonna say

9. Clace - That will probably surprise some of you but I kinda lost this clace magic along the way of reading tsc. I absolutely love them as characters and Jace is one of the funniest bitches. Idk, I don't feel it as much as I used to. But well I was 13 when I read tmi and now I'm 23 so 🤣 I still remember that 4-6 tmi books broke me emotionally so I have this great sentiment for Clace but we have many more couples that I love more 🥺

10. AriAnna - I fell in love with them when I read gotsm and I rooted for them SO HARD in cog and coi, I couldn't get enough of that tension. And then cot happened.... It felt like cc just decided to drop them, gave them an easy ending just to get rid of them... So I was greatly disappointed. And I know that if not for cot they would be higher

11. LucieJessie - Honesty (and I say this with great sadness) I was bored reading their story in cog and coi, they were just so bland to me, I don't know 😭 BUT cot made everything change. When Jessie came back to life he was SO FUN TO READ I COULDN'T BELIEVE IT!! I loved them and I'm sad that it wasn't like that from the beginning

Danny shipping in DC crossover

I have always been a sucker for a good Danny romance fic with characters from other mediums. Especially with DC characters as I feel they have rich characters and settings that just feel natural for Danny Phantom to interact with.

In saying that I feel that with shipping in these crossovers they have become limited and kind of stale. I love shipping Danny with one of the batboys but there are just too many fanfiction with him dating or developing a crush with Damian Wayne, Tim Drake and Jason Todd. Not only that but some of the reasons they like each other have become a bit over played. Tim likes Danny because caffeine addiction, Danny quiets the pits for Jason or Damian likes Danny because he's feral or Cujo.

While I do enjoy those ships it is just that there are so many of them. There are so many other characters in just the Batman medium that we can ship Danny or any other DP characters with.

Not saying there are no other fanfiction that have Danny dating other Batman characters. I remember one or two where Danny dates Barabar Gordon, Cassandra Cain, Bruce Wayne or even Duke Thomas (I believe I saw one fanfiction where Duke and Danny get together, I just need to find it) and I want more of those.

the likelihood of characters dying in chain of thorns

this is just my personal opinions based off of my interpretations of the characters and the current content we have in the shadowhunters universe. this is an incredibly long post cause i never shut up so i'm putting everything under the cut!

james: 1/10

highly highly unlikely that he will perish cause someone has to carry on the herondale name

but honestly who knows at this point

like i would be genuinely shocked if he died

and incredibly confused cause someone has to go on to produce heirs that will lead to jace 

cause the lost herondale is a whole different thing 

cordelia: 1/10

also highly unlikely cause it’s almost certain that she’s the person who produces the herondale heirs

cause her and james are already married and i have confidence they’re going to get their shit together 

lucie: 1/10

again pretty sure she’s the one who’s going to be producing blackthorn heirs and we know there are many more blackthorns to come

also i just don’t know what could kill lucie herondale 

but yeah pretty sure she’s safe

matthew: 9/10

listen this man is not making it out of this series alive i’m almost sure of it

he has all the makings of a tragic hero

i feel like there isn’t enough time to give him the healing/redemption arc that he needs so i feel like he’s just going to sacrifice himself 

and it’s going to be horrible and i’m going to cry for a minimum of 8-10 business days

but i just feel so strongly that this is where his arc is headed

not sure about this one honestly

i’ve always been a little scared for thomas since the fake family tree said he died young (and yes i know it’s not correct but there has to be some reason why that’s listed as his death date even if it’s not when he actually died)

i hope cassie wouldn’t do that to sophie and gideon since she already killed barbara but who knows

there are other male lightwoods so he doesn’t need to live in order to carry on the family name

also i wouldn’t want him to be the one to carry on the family name cause him and alastair need to get together

but i’m worried about him cause i definitely think he’s in danger 

i also will cry for a minimum of 8-10 business days if he dies 

alastair: 5/10

again we’re not sure

honestly my confidence in his survival hinges entirely on the gender of the baby carstairs 

cause if the baby is a boy then there’s a male carstairs to carry on the name 

cause obviously there’s more since emma exists 

but also if the baby is a boy then there is a much higher chance of alastair dying

cause like matthew i think he has the potential to be a tragic hero and sacrifice himself 

i’m hoping his arc will not end like that cause i think there’s enough time in chain of thorns to wrap it up but i am still scared for the fate of my son 

best case scenario him and thomas run away together at the end of chain of thorns

i’m almost certain he’s okay cause i’m pretty sure he’s the one that carries on the lightwood name 

but also there are two other male lightwoods in this book who have the potential to carry on the name 

but i’m pretty sure he’s gonna be good 

if he dies i think it would be mostly for shock value and cassie doesn’t do that often and normally only once or maybe twice in a series which i think she already did with barbara and elias 

so yeah we’re pretty sure he’s safe

again according to the family tree she marries christopher and they make lightwood babies together 

also i don’t think killing her off would make much narrative sense

cause she was kind of a pseudo antagonist and i think killing her off would be a cheap ending for her

again it would probably be for shock value but i just don’t really see it happening

very concerned that snippet that’s like “all that effort to convince you i wasn’t in love with you, and here i am, dying in your arms” is gonna be her at ariadne (kamala? i’m not sure what we’re calling her sorry)

i’m not sure how cassie could wrap up her character in a satisfying way in chain of thorns so i’m worried she’s just gonna kill her 

again it could be a kind of tragic hero moment where like she’s been selfish for so long and then she sacrifices herself for the people she loves 

but i hope she doesn’t die cause i love her

honestly i have no idea but i’m pretty sure she’s gonna be okay

cassie mentioned something about how she’s going to pick a new name for herself by the end of the book and that doesn’t make it sound like she’s gonna get killed off

but cassie is also the queen of misdirection 

so who knows

but again i think if she killed her off it would just be for shock value and it would be kinda cheap after everything she’s gone through

honestly i’m the most confident about him which is ironic considering he’s spent the last two books being dead

but he’s currently the only blackthorn that could carry on the name and there’s a lot of blackthorns later

but it would feel really cheap to spend so much time focusing on bringing him back to life only to kill him in the next book 

so yeah i’m almost positive he’s gonna be fine

god i wish i could say with confidence that he’s gonna die but i really don’t think he is

i think he’s gonna find some woman who’s dumb enough to marry him and then he’s gonna be a miserable asshole for the rest of his life and help carry on the fairchild name 

cause we know someone does

so unfortunately i think he’s probably going to stay alive

i really appreciate how you bring up 'james and matthew are spiralling together in their parabatai bond' like it's the most obvious thing ever. their friendship, since academy days, gives 'i'm hurting and this is the only person who kinda gets it and i can fully be myself around' vibes (yes matthew does withdraw with the events of cls, but the vibe's still kinda there). to me they stay relatively healthy given everything due to four lightwoods; lucie sometimes; and when cordelia comes she quickly joins the select 'i don't have to pretend around you' few for both of them. james has that just-instinctively-getting-each-other friendship with thomas which mirrors jem and will in some ways and is less one-sided. james and christopher have this neurodivergent synergy where james gives a reason for christopher to do what he loves (hey i'll try your experimental weapons) and gets new weapons and that kind of validating normalisation for him to pursue his own interests, albeit more quietly. matthew is a bit of a carer for those two and he hasn't quite broken out of that yet in tlh (a bit similar to how james is still Protective Older Brother to lucie and not quite vulnerable) but he is close with anna and does get close with eugenia. all meaning they don't go completely echo-chamber.

anyway, this is an ask and not a ramble. so i want to know where you think this goes in time to come. to me, both of them make a new friend in chain of thorns: matthew realises he and alastair actually have a lot in common and can slowly build a genuine friendship around Everything, and james discovers jesse is the Most Relatable and Admirable Person Ever (not replacing the way he relates to and admires his wife and parabatai of course, even thomas in some ways). and so the support system is going strong. i still want both of them to be in therapy and at least gaining an understanding of What Is Going On and This Might Help You Cope. but it's a good reminder of how even today that's not always accessible. you can answer this is in a christopher-positive world, i'll be nice. (and think it gives more thought fodder). keen to hear it!

also, since this is something that has been happening quite often in parabatai pairings across tsc, do you think that feelings for someone can be contagious in a way through the parabatai bond? especially when they refuse to acknowledge them so it kinda just bubbles up and takes over and neither realise it's happening to the other too? if so, bonus question, how do you think that plays out when they catch feelings for each other? is it a confidence boost that becomes Magical Mania (because i swear the buzzed feeling i had for years at a time once came from an empathy mirror like that, not quite parabatai but it was feelings for me in someone whose feelings i always felt myself) amplifying so much power within a closed system that it explodes from it and makes Angel Giants whose power might burn them to death? (and side note while we're here, given that james survived belial's Very Powerful Presence in his body and julian is assumedly descended from lucie do you think that's partially why he and emma survived being Angel Giants? and jace heavenly fire aside from his angel blood?) like i know you've talked about this parabatai curse theory, i'm just fishing for/feeding you details to take or leave.

and do you think, when they feel such discouragement and hatred towards themselves as we sometimes see (going back to heronchild now) it does the opposite--drains the energy for both of them, turning the bond into a bit of a vacuum and a rut that's many times harder to get out of--but survivable because of the company there? and also do you think that, as awful as this is, it could be harnessed somehow for mood regulation (going off bipolar matthew headcanon the fact that he always has james there to anchor him in his rapidly changing moods). then, on the flip side, do you think this could've amplified whatever went on with james in the midnight heir if matthew was similarly deranged? sorry for the long and multiple-interconnected-things ask!!

okay, so: a) don't worry about the very long ask, you have given me some interesting questions, and b) i'll try my best to answer them but excuse me if it's an incoherent ramble.

i think the biggest difference between james + matthew and will + jem is that james and matthew have other people, something that will and jem do not (which is actually so sad because they do, they really do, but they can't see it). which is really good; they both have support systems, both together and individually, outside of their parabatai bond. even people they might walk on a little bit unintentionally in the process still choose to be there for them because regardless of how they're treated, they care and they're worried and there are ultimately more good memories to be made than bad ones. they're held up by their friends, by their families, by the people they love and the people they are in love with. whereas, though i'll accept other shipping and not-shipping headcanons for them, i think a lot of the weird not-wholly-platonic feeling will & jem give off is a side effect of having had nobody but each other to be anything close to open around for so long.

and i do think there's definitely a likelihood that parabatai start crushing on each others' crushes. it makes sense within a bond where one of the factors is that you're sharing emotions. and a bouncing back of their feelings for you onto yourself could definitely be something that happens when parabatai fall in love. ultimately i think the more dangerous reason that parabatai romances are prohibited is not being Angel Giants but all of the toxicity that's likely to come out of a romantic relationship between people who share this kind of a strong empathic bond. regardless of whether it makes Angel Giants or not.

and so yeah. it does make sense that when you've got parabatai who collectively have less self-esteem and/or sense of self-worth than dorothy's companions on the way to oz, they would sink into that quagmire together. i do think it could no doubt have been a factor in something like the midnight-heir-weirdness. and while i do think that you could harness it to help keep each other stable, it'd be something that would require years of practice and trial-and-error and could potentially be dangerous in the meantime.

Ah the day you truly hated. While for some others it's the day they awaited. Intramurals..The intramurals lasted a whole week long, but luckily your athlete boyfriend will keep you entertained. Arriving at campus at 6 in the morning isn't ideal, but who were you to complain?, after all non-athletes were told to arrive at 6:30. but unfortunately for you, you were told to arrive at 6. why?, by luck or by misfortune you were scouted by the student body committee to help set up the venues. which included; Volleyball, Basketball, Football, Taekwondo and various other sports venues. Having to prepare snacks and bottles of water for the athletes were a pain. no wonder why the student body committee asked for help.Bored and irritated of having to help, you zoned out in the middle of helping the others set up. not realizing you had bumped into your oh so lovely boyfriend.Seeing you carry the boxes and even water gallons he graciously took the load off of your hands and moved it himself. there’s also ghosts of the shadow market and the bane chronicles but honestly you should just read those after everything else. There’s also the wicked powers but that doesn’t come out for a while. Also, Secrets of Blackthorn Hall can only be found online, so there’s a tumblr with all the entries on it.

The Infernal Devices (Clockwork Angel-Clockwork Princess) is where Jem, Will and Tessa are. It’s without a doubt the best Shadowhunter series. It’s my personal favourite. If you only read one you should definitely make it that one.

The Last Hours (Chain of Gold-Chain of Thorns) is where Christopher, James, Cordelia, Lucie, Grace, Thomas, Alastair and Matthew are. The first two are good, but the last one very much falls apart.

The Mortal Instruments (City of Glass-City of Heavenly Fire) is where Clary, Magnus, Jace, Isabelle, Simon and Alec are. I’m fairly divided on this one because it has the most worldbuilding and you should read it for the others, but it’s also shit. Clare made some interesting choices in it, which you’re probably aware of, but I’m not going to put here in case you don’t. The last book is great, and book three five and one are alright, but two and four are both travesties that didn’t need to be written.

The Dark Artifices (Lady Midnight-Queen of Air and Darkness) is where Kit, Dru, Ty and Livvy are (they’re not the main characters but i never talk about the actual mains so you wouldn’t know them). Lady Midnight fucks very hard, I love LM, I also do like LoS and QoAaD but some have said that QoAaD is bad and too much happens in it but I don’t agree, sorry.

The Eldest Curses (The Red Scrolls of Magic-The Lost Book of White) is where Magnus and Alec are the mains. It’s not really considered a proper series, more of a companion to TMI. There’s another coming out but Clare has completely forgotten about it, so there’ll be a while til that comes out.

there’s a few companion novels, tales from shadowhunter academy (main character is simon, but a lot of others from every series crop up), ghosts of the shadow market (main character is jem, tessa is in a lot of the stories in the second half, kit is a big part of it, two tlh characters have attitudes in it, the tmi characters are in it for a bit), and the bane chronicles (main character is magnus, really only tmi characters and tessa, but james and grace are in there, but they are drastically different to tlh). tfsa is really the only one i think you need to read in a specific order (after city of heavenly fire) but really gotsm and tbc don’t need to be read in a specific order, just kind of after tid and tmi respectively.

1. Simon Lewis 💙

Simon is my first love in the Shadowhunters universe, of course I will pick him first. I just want to nerd out with him, watch movies together, learn archery with him and so much more. I think he and I will have a good time considering we're both nerdy and love Star Wars. I will also want to learn more how his experience as a vampire. I will just mainly geek out with him and maybe do some mundane stuff with him. Might bring Clary along for an extra good time.

2. Thomas Lightwood ❤️

Ahhh, my sweet Tom. I would want to bring him to life just to be with him (as friends, of course). Like he is a character that exudes comfort. I wanna hug him and read with him. We can talk about things together, I'll get him to teach me how to speak French, Spanish and many other languages and in return, I'll teach him a few basic Tagalog/Filipino. I just want to be friends with him, to be quite honest.

3. Tessa Gray 🧡

Assuming that Tessa is real, I just want to explore books with her and discover some good reads that I will treasure. I would also love to hear stories from her and be more inspired with how strong she is as a person and just be empowered.

coming up first we have the first Magnus to Alec letter. Listen this shit changed my life and was probably one of the highlights of my fall semester last year I’m not kidding it was that bad. Magnus and Alec made it better. that photo of them and the kids on vacation is my everything. Magnus calling Alec love. it’s everything. anyway we knew that was first

second we have the other Magnus to Alec letter. this one wasn’t hitting as much but it was still Magnus to Alec hence why it’s up at the top. it was still great. highlights include Magnus calling the kids m and r bc I think it’s cute, and Magnus calling Alec my love again. Also the entire last paragraph !

next is unobjectively the best sobh entry if we are not counting my extreme tmi gang bias. which is Livvy speaking to Julian!!!! I love the inflection the actress used and I think she encapsulated Livvy so so well and I LOVE IT. Kitty angst I am here for it. this was so gearing up for what the wicked powers will be. too bad it’s a decade away. anyway this entry slayed the house down!!!! ty needs kit.

next was a super fun surprise and def one of my favs : emma and Julian visiting the tmi gang in nyc!!! even tho it freaked me out because I am so scared of Janus I got to see my BEST FRIENDS jace clary and Alec <3 Simon and Isabelle could’ve been included but I’ll take what I can get. they ordered pizza my favs for that I love my tmi gang takeout food fiends. yeah this was sm fun

Here’s a random one. TESSA TO MARYSE. this was a banger. I love it. I remember reading it and this was like over a year ago but I was so in shock but so thrilled. Like it’s just random but fun for hearing about kit and Jace and the lightwood fam is my fav obviously. and that cute pic of Jace clary kit and mina!!!

next we have the kit to ty letter that kit burned. sad but good and also just interesting with its connections to james my best friend James Herondale. it’ll be interesting (?) to see what ends up happening with the gun in both chain of thorns and the wicked powers. cool stuff
