something i really need to get off my chest even if i just post this privately is That i really dislike ‘caretakers’ in whump writing. or ‘whumper’ i feel like it makes a character (even if they’re just a hypothetical one) feel very 1 dimensional and it makes me so OKAY JUST HEAR ME OUT!!! whumpee i don’t mind much, it makes the prompt or what your talking about a little clearer. But it feels like it’s putting it into a box and making sort of roles which makes it feel less like a prompt and more like we’re in an omega verse fandom and i mean this really lovingly and affectionately and no hate to any of yall. I have a vast amount of characters and i write stories and books and I can say with out a shadow of a doubt, not ONE of them fall under ‘whumper’ or ‘caretaker’ because i develop them as their own individual character. Not even my antagonist are ‘whumpers’
So one of my main antagonists literally burns cigarettes on the MC and abuses the MC. Tries to kill her on her 18th birthday. Shes her mom, and the main character PHYSICALLY cannot leave that situation with out getting the authorities involved until she turns 18. Mom sounds like an ass, she beats ‘whumpee’ up! why would i NEVER call her a whumper? because she’s a whumpee by that logic. Her mom was extremely emotionally abusive, and half the time not fully there. Her shitty ass dad got murdered in front of her when she was just a kid. but Her mom isn’t a whumper either, because she too would be considered a whumpee. She was a world renowned flapper girl, everyone loved her. she LIVED for the fame and her face in newspapers. But behind the scenes she was actively ignoring her distant parents as they continued to try and marry her off. She was then forced into the marriage when she got pregnant with the guy (much so against her will which is why she killed him.) and ever since she’s been delusional and not fully there. It’s generational abuse.
more ramble under the cut + extra clarification on what I’m trying to say
okay but that’s just generational abuse right? There are other whumpers in the real world! Yeah i guess there’s sadists and serial killers, but like, there’s SOOOO much more guys.
I have a mini antagonist, he’s in highschool and he’s meant to be the toxic narcissistic ex of one of my characters. But he’s falling apart trying to get attention, he’s not fully aware of the damage he IS doing. Ass he may be but again behind the scenes he’s constantly fighting with his dad who refuses to do anything around the house and who is also transphobic (she’s bigender but i’ve been using he to make it less confusing right now) and now she has to take care of her little sister and act like a whole ass mom. As a sophomore. In high school. Not only that but her mom died, so she has to struggle with that. She’s just an annoying ass teenager, she doesn’t understand how to treat people or how she’s supposed to be handling what she’s dealing with. But getting attention and being liked at school? now that’s the shit. That’s like drugs for her. But to what lengths does she go to get that extra validation? He uses his boyfriend almost like an accessory. He’s not considerate of his feelings, and most likely doesn’t understand what a relationship is SUPPOSED to be.
Unless you’re making a sociopath character, which i LOVE a good sociopath character, you have to treat them like they also have humanity. Most of the time villains don’t just. Do shit to do it, they have some sort of background that lead up to this!!! And also even then with sociopaths they’re their own individual characters separate from the people they hurt!!! and also NONE of these are end all be alls and all characters must be developed this way!!!!
just my advice and stuff <3 i love all of you out there and i can understand why using certain roles and terms are the go to, and i’m not stopping you!!! i just really wanted to give my two cents so i can possibly help other writers!!!

recovering whumpee who's doing pretty well, all things considered, but is suddenly faced with something that's not quite life changing: a minor wound, a nightmare, a cold/the flu, or just generally dealing with the everyday effects of ptsd.
maybe they panic, because both their body and their brain had gotten so used to having to fight for their life, they can't separate minor threats from major ones.
but caretaker is there to help them. caretaker has been there, and will continue to be there with them. keeping an eye on the wound, giving them pain meds if needed. holding them tight and wiping their tears after a nightmare. giving them cold medicine. having the patience of a saint as they both figure out how the ptsd affects them.
whatever it is, whumpee eventually is able to accept that they will get through this. they've survived so much worse thanks to caretaker. they didn't expect healing to be easier, but having caretaker there every step of the way definitely helps.

Stan McKellen (22)
(character intro 2 of 4 for the (Un)Official Guide Series!)
he/him, 5’4
Alias(es): [deadname], Stanford
Powers?: Has the ability to absorb and redirect energy to move and manipulate physical objects, much like the colloquially known ‘telekinesis’.
>> Power Level: 4
(More info under the cut)
Tumblr media
>> Social Designation: Blue– Test Subject | Black– Currently incarcerated for power-related crimes. Learn more here.
>> Stan's bloodline is the only known case in which powers are passed down genetically, instead of seemingly randomly as with the rest of the human species. This makes him very intriguing to interested parties.
Background: Doesn’t seem to have any official public records. It's as if he didnt exist. Thankfully, we know better! Stan lived a more or less normal childhood with his two parents and sister, Chloe McKellen, up until his early teens, when he and his parents were captured to be experimented on by Supramed Research Corp., seemingly for their unique powers. The sister was somehow saved from capture and covertly placed with her grandparents, while the parents haven’t been heard from since their initial capture. In captivity, Stan gained a myriad of mental and physical disabilities, including PTSD and extreme knee and hip joint weakness. He managed to escape and reunited with his sister and grandparents, but an incident with the police ended with six SWAT casualties and Stan escaping and taking his sister to live on the run. He now has no other known living relatives. He and his sister have since been living a semi-normal life in hiding with Stan's fiancé, Marcus Silva, up until his most recent recapture. It seems that this time he is of a much higher priority, and he might not be so lucky as to escape.
Extra Note(s):
Transgender female-to-male. All files have been updated to reflect this.
Uses a magical heirloom cane to both enhance his powers and aid mobility.
Try not to engage. It’s not his fault, but he attracts trouble wherever he goes.
His story!: The (Un)Official Guide to Hero-Keeping, a self-help guide for super-villains and bounty hunters

Thinking about a whumpee who was built out of the corpses of his past lives.
He has part of a horrible evil person in him, he was built with the pieces of that person’s corpse. And he knows it, and he does everything in his power to be better than that person was. He does everything he can to fix the pain that person caused. He’s not that person, not really, but he can’t help but feel responsible for what it did, because in a way, he is.
He also has part of a person that person hurt in him. Both the abuser and the abused, both of their memories, both of their pain, both of their fears, and he doesn’t know what to do with it. He’s both of them in a way, but he’s also not either of them. They’re both dead, but they live on in him, but he’s also his own person.
Thinking about this whumpee being so terrified of hurting anyone that he closes himself off and isolates himself. Thinking about him feeling awful about things that weren’t his fault, because those actions weren’t his actions, but they were his past life’s actions that he remembers. Thinking about him feeling awful that he couldn’t protect the people around him from it, even though it was never his fault in the first place.
Thinking about him having a bad mental day and getting intrusive violent thoughts, getting random memories of hurting people when he looks around. He’s very quiet on those days, and he isolates himself even more.
Thinking of him feeling like he doesn’t deserve love or care, because his past lives ended up hurting or being unable to protect everyone they loved or cared for. Thinking of him being terrified of being like the past life, so he avoids being close to anyone completely, sticking with helping the people he hurt.
Thinking about him letting the people their past life hurt hurt him and not retaliating, because the past life is dead, but a piece of it lives on in him, and he believes this is the only way some of the people his past life has hurt can get closure, and he’s also so terrified of hurting these people again and being like that past life that he can’t retaliate. Thinking of the past life SCREAMING in his head to hit them back, and the other has a sick sense of satisfaction, and he won’t do anything because part of him feels vindicated about this. Knows this is also hurting the piece of his past life that lives on. It’s so fucked up but part of him feels better when it happens, because even if he himself doesn’t deserve it, he knows his past life does.
Anyway, I’m brainrotting over this one character, and if you know who this is about, no you don’t. HAHA

Thinking about a caretaker who kind of just got thrown into the role and knows they aren’t the perfect person for it but they’re trying anyway. They want whumpee to understand they have a right to make their own decisions and voice their own opinions but for the most part whumpee has just been doing what they ask them to without question and it bothers them immensely but has yet to change no matter how many times they try to explain they don’t have to obey them. Until one day they ask the whumpee to do smth simple, grab smth from the next room or if they’re okay with waiting an extra hour for dinner or just smth like that and whumpee says “no”. And at first they’re like what. What did you say to me? Which freaks whumpee out and they get nervous but they tell them again, they said no. And caretaker is fucking THRILLED. Whumpee repeats themself and caretaker is like “oh FUCK YEAH. I’m so proud of you. Do that whenever you want. Fantastic job.”

I've been reading this whump series lately and
Damn.
Well, I wanted to say I love Damiel Cartier.
They are nonbinary
Black
Polyamorous
Neurodivergent
Have C.I.P.A. (congenital insensitivity to pain with anhidrosis) - a disease
Are AFAB
They're all the cissexist ableist traditional western system hates and I love them
Dami belongs to @angst-after-dark and is from the amazing bbu series, Like A Bullet Loves A Gun
(I have heard of c.i.p.a. before, but I didn't know the name, so @angst-after-dark made the favour of explaining me and I did a bit of research - it is a disease characterized by the inability of feeling pain and insensibility to temperatures, which can be very dangerous to the patient, and can lead to many accidents and episodes of self-harm, and lead to have the patient sick often, since they don't sweat - a natural mechanism of the body to regulate temperature - and hurt themselves a little often. I'm not an expert, of course, since I only found it out a few hours ago, and it may have some informations missing here, but it looked interesting to share.)
If you're into whump/bbu I hightly recomend this series!
But it has a huge amount of non-con (aka sexual abuse) so be careful if you don't like it or has sensibility to it. All the chapters have trigger warnings.

@whumpkinpie hello! I have written more because Carrie and WIllow have captured my writing brain. welcome to my first ever tag list bwahaha
See prompt/part 1 here: the link
Part 2 — Asleep (Call Me Up — Luna Luna)
The sun had just disappeared behind the mountains when the speaker finally died. The warning trills had been ringing in advance, but Carrie couldn’t bring themself to break the calm late afternoon tranquility that had befallen their little porch. And thus Carrie tried to savour the moment until its most definite end—hoping that those extra few minutes could bring some more much needed peace to Willow.
After the soft vocals were abruptly cut off, Carrie expected Willow to start and disappear deeper into the house—hopefully to their room and not on the cold floor near the stairs.
Getting up and gathering their various items (glass, blanket, speaker, phone—), Carrie was quietly surprised to see Willow in the same position against the wall inside: one leg bent with their elbow resting on their knee—except now their head was tilted to the side.
They had fallen asleep.
And so close to Carrie. Were they finally feeling safe around them?
Carrie redoubled their efforts to stay quiet as they carried their items inside, stepping awkwardly over the cooler that was both holding the door open and partially blocking their path.
After getting everything in order and carefully dragging the cooler back to the kitchen, Carrie returned to the porch exit with a soft blanket.
Willow was still out like a light, remarkably. They were a very light sleeper and Carrie had fully anticipated the scraping of the beat plastic cooler on the hardwood floor would be the thing to wake them up. And yet they slept.
And, well, if they were sleeping so well here, why would Carrie force them awake just to move them upstairs? They were resolutely ignoring the consequences of sleeping in such a position on hard surfaces in favour of preserving the most peaceful look on their face that they had ever seen.
Carrie came close and gently laid down the light blanket on Willows wiry figure, holding their breath. When they didn’t shift, Carrie exhaled a silent breath of relief. Then they backed away into the kitchen to cook dinner.
While the chicken was in the oven, Carrie set about finishing household chores and finding the speaker charger. All the while, they thought of music.

STOP DOING THIS IN INJURY FICS!!
Bleeding:
Blood is warm. if blood is cold, you’re really fucking feverish or the person is dead. it’s only sticky after it coagulates.
It smells! like iron, obv, but very metallic. heavy blood loss has a really potent smell, someone will notice.
Unless in a state of shock or fight-flight mode, a character will know they’re bleeding. stop with the ‘i didn’t even feel it’ yeah you did. drowsiness, confusion, pale complexion, nausea, clumsiness, and memory loss are symptoms to include.
blood flow ebbs. sometimes it’s really gushin’, other times it’s a trickle. could be the same wound at different points.
it’s slow. use this to your advantage! more sad writer times hehehe.
Stab wounds:
I have been mildly impaled with rebar on an occasion, so let me explain from experience. being stabbed is bizarre af. your body is soft. you can squish it, feel it jiggle when you move. whatever just stabbed you? not jiggly. it feels stiff and numb after the pain fades. often, stab wounds lead to nerve damage. hands, arms, feet, neck, all have more motor nerve clusters than the torso. fingers may go numb or useless if a tendon is nicked.
also, bleeding takes FOREVER to stop, as mentioned above.
if the wound has an exit wound, like a bullet clean through or a spear through the whole limb, DONT REMOVE THE OBJECT. character will die. leave it, bandage around it. could be a good opportunity for some touchy touchy :)
whump writers - good opportunity for caretaker angst and fluff w/ trying to manhandle whumpee into a good position to access both sites
Concussion:
despite the amnesia and confusion, people ain’t that articulate. even if they’re mumbling about how much they love (person) - if that’s ur trope - or a secret, it’s gonna make no sense. garbled nonsense, no full sentences, just a coupla words here and there.
if the concussion is mild, they’re gonna feel fine. until….bam! out like a light. kinda funny to witness, but also a good time for some caretaking fluff.
Fever:
you die at 110F. no 'oh no his fever is 120F!! ahhh!“ no his fever is 0F because he’s fucking dead. you lose consciousness around 103, sometimes less if it’s a child. brain damage occurs at over 104.
ACTUAL SYMPTOMS:
sluggishness
seizures (severe)
inability to speak clearly
feeling chilly/shivering
nausea
pain
delirium
symptoms increase as fever rises. slow build that secret sickness! feverish people can be irritable, maybe a bit of sass followed by some hurt/comfort. never hurt anybody.
ALSO about fevers - they absolutely can cause hallucinations. Sometimes these alter memory and future memory processing. they're scary shit guys.
fevers are a big deal! bad shit can happen! milk that till its dry (chill out) and get some good hurt/comfort whumpee shit.
keep writing u sadistic nerds xox love you
ALSO I FORGOT LEMME ADD ON:
YOU DIE AT 85F
sorry I forgot. at that point for a sustained period of time you're too cold to survive.
pt 2

AuguSnippets is an event that encourages the short and sweet of the whump genre. Ideally, your drabbles would be under 500 or even under 100 words, maybe even just a dialogue prompt. This, however, does not mean I won't reblog longer prompt fills! Don't stress too much on that limit. I just think it's sometimes nice to challenge yourself to write shorter drabbles, and it can also work as a very good exercise to write daily or semi-daily, and it doesn't need a lot of prep.
As for tagging your work, please use the appropriate trigger warnings. This is so everyone can stay safe and avoid potentially triggering topics while participating. Also, if your work is nsfw, please don't forget to tag it as mature content! If your work is not tagged properly, I won't be able to reblog it! Thank you!
Our special tag will be "#augusnippets day [x]". On the first day that would be "#augusnippets day 1". This is so I and others can find your work easier! You can also tag the blog, that's an even more surefire way to get me to notice your prompt fill :)
Is this a writing only event?
Yeah, this one is exclusively writing focused.
Do I have to use the special tag or tag this blog?
Not if you don't want to get featured on this blog :) It's just so I can find your work easier and reblog it here! If that's not something you're interested in, just scribble away without it.
Is the "under 500" a hard limit for the word count?
No, but I encourage everyone to try and keep to it in the spirit of this event.
Can I submit nsfw works?
Yes! Just please tag it properly :)
Can I mix and match the prompts from different paths?
Yes! Have fun!
What do I need to do to get the completionist badge?
Either you need to complete one whole path, or complete 10 prompt fills altogether while mixing and matching. Those who complete all 30 days (and maybe even the bonus day) will get something extra special!
Can I write fandom related things?
Yes! This event is both for original characters and fandom related writing.
Will there be an AO3 collection?
Yes! Here

Whumpee who is usually carefree, a comic relief type of character. They go through something horrible, but even once they're being rescued, they crack jokes. "Oh, my very own hero coming for me, how romantic!" - "Sorry the place is a mess, if I knew you were coming I would've cleaned up."
When they're back at home/a save place, they still keep up the facade. They smile and grin, just happy to be back. But they also use it to hide the reality of the situation. Because this is who they are. This is who they're supposed to be in the group; they make the others laugh. People don't worry about them, they're always fine. They can't stand the pity on their faces, the worried looks. So they smile and laugh and joke, see? They're fine!
Until a few days later, when Caretaker has left the house and Whumpee is alone for the first time since their rescue. And without anyone to pretend for, they break down. They fight against it at first, but the reality of everything that happened catches up with them, until they're sobbing, face buried in their hands.
Caretaker comes back and sees them like this, and Whumpee instantly tries to smile, or make a joke to brush it off and deflect. But the words won't come. They see the worry on Caretaker's face, and they can't stop the next sob from escaping them.
Caretaker doesn't judge, they're not even shocked. They knew Whumpee was hiding their pain, it was only a matter of time before it came out. So they sit next to them, wrapping an arm around their shoulder and letting them cry, telling them it's okay.
Whumpee let's out all the pain they've been hiding, the trauma and the loss of self they've been experiencing.
After, they feel a bit better. The road to recovery will be a long one, but with Caretaker by their side, they think they can handle it.
They smile at Caretaker. It's not the same smile they wore before everything happened, it might never be the same, but this time, it's genuine.

how to write a character who suffers a PTSD from their past toxic relationship, how they can react / what they might say in certain situations
trigger warnings for abuse, domestic violence, ed
how they can react in certain situations
✘ avoid making eye contact, but will look up to meet caretaker’s eyes immediately if caretaker tells them to — for instance, caretaker is concerned about whumpee who keeps their gaze on the floor all the time; so, without thinking, caretaker says, “ look at me”. it doesn’t matter if they say it in a soft, comforting tone, they immediately regret it because whumpee quickly jerks their head up to meet caretaker’s eyes, fully thinking caretaker will hurt them if they don’t obey.
✘ whumpee is used to receiving orders. they don’t understand the concept of saying no and not being punished for it. so anything caretaker asks them to do (keyword; ask, whumpee can absolutely say no), whumpee will comply whether or not they want to (but they will do their best to make sure it looks like they want to).
✘ avoid staying in a crowded room or even an open space. whumpee will most likely seek comfort from some quiet corner where they’re away from anybody and nobody can bother them.
✘ an open space where there’s no one around can also bother whumpee, because it’s not just about being surrounded by a lot of people that’s triggering to whumpee. being alone in an open space can make whumpee feel extremely exposed, like an easy target.
✘ so mostly, whumpee will seek some quiet corner where they are alone and aren’t easily seen.
✘ they don’t like being the center of attention or being talked about. because this can also make them feel vulnerable, uncomfortable and exposed.
✘ physical touch that comes with no heads up, the ones that catch whumpee off guard, can result in a terrible reaction from whumpee, even if it’s an act of affection (a hug, a friendly pat on the shoulder, etc), because whumpee has already associated all kind of physical contact with pain and violence. so if someone touches them, they reflexively expect it to hurt.
✘ being jumpy in general. they may flinch away at any loud noise, any physical touch.
✘ lack of opinions in general. if they have to engage in a conversation where more than two people are talking about something, whumpee will remain quiet. not because they’re shy but because they 1.) think their opinions don’t matter 2.) are afraid they might say something wrong that’ll get them punished 3.) don’t want to risk speaking out of turn.
✘ whumpee expect themself to be punished if they make a mistake, doesn’t matter how small the mistake is — for instance, whumpee accident knocks over a glass of water, causing it to shatter, and immediately starts to panic, because they believe they will get punished for it.
✘ the rules whumper previously set for whumpee may still be effective for whumpee, even if they’re with caretaker now; whumpee still follows whimper’s rules because 1.) it’s an old habit 2.) they just want to stay safe.
✘ they can react poorly to food. whumpee may have no appetite at all, and can develop a wave of anxiety that can lead to nausea if they’re forced to eat. (this doesn’t mean caretaker is supposed to just let them starve though, only that it can be challenging and caretaker has to be very careful about how they approach this, how they handle the situation to help whumpee.)
✘ insomnia. whumpee having trouble sleeping at night, this can cause them to feel tired during daytime.
things they can say in certain situations
✘ “it’s okay.”
✘ “I’m used to it.”
✘ “I can be good. I’ll be good.”
✘ “I don’t deserve this.” (on being shown kindness)
✘ “it’s what I deserve.” (on being hurt)
✘ “why are you kind to me?”
✘ “I’m sorry, it won’t happen again.” (on making a mistake)
✘ “please, don’t be mad at me.”
✘ “I’ll do better next time.”
✘ “you’re not angry?”
✘ “it’s up to you”
✘ “either is fine with me.” (on being asked to pick something or to give an opinion)
✘ “it’s my fault.”

CHOKING IN WHUMP
I know this is like very basic in whump but its something I just CANNOT get over with.
It’s not just about the physical pain but also the mental and emotional anguish. It’s like a perfect storm of fear and helplessness, and that combination really gets me hooked.
Plus, there's something about the dynamic it creates between the whumpee and whumper. It adds layers of control and power plays, which can make the whole situation even more intense. The way it forces characters into such a vulnerable state is just sooo deliciousss.
What I love the most is the thought's that whumpee gets while being choked. When a character is choking, it’s like everything else fades away, and it’s just them and this immediate, life-or-death struggle. The thoughts are the one thing that changes the whole situation. It ramps up the tension and keeps them on edge, wondering how they’ll get out of it or if they’ll even make it.
Whumpee's breaths are ragged, each gasp a desperate plea that falls on deaf ears. The world seems to be narrowing, collapsing into a pinprick of darkness as their lungs scream for air that isn’t coming. Their mind races, a jumble of fragmented thoughts. Is this how it ends?
Whumpee can feel the pressure tightening, relentless. Their vision blurs, and they struggle to focus on anything but the suffocating grip around their throat. The room spins, and their heartbeat feels like it’s trying to break free from their chest. It’s like being trapped in a nightmare where the walls are closing in, and there’s no escape.
There’s an almost surreal clarity in this moment of terror. They think about everything They won’t get to do—no more sunrises, no more laughter, no more moments of peace. All those simple things I took for granted are slipping away, one choking gasp at a time.
Whumpee's hands claw uselessly at the constriction, nails digging into their skin, but it’s like trying to fight a storm with bare hands. Whumpee's thoughts are a blur of panic and regret, all mingled with a helpless resignation. I’m fading, losing grip on everything familiar.
The worst part? The absolute isolation. In this moment, no one can hear my silent screams. I’m utterly alone, drifting into the darkness with only the oppressive pressure as my cruel companion.
Is this it? Is this what it means to truly lose yourself? To have your life squeezed out of you, one choking breath at a time? The fear grips them like icy fingers, and whumpee can’t help but think that there’s no coming back from this.
Oh god oh god oh god Please please Im sorry im sorry
Please let my family be okay..
Finally.
So, yeah, choking in whump isn’t just about the physical act. It’s about the emotions, the stakes, and the dynamic it sets up. :))

Concussion:
despite the amnesia and confusion, people ain't that articulate. even if they're mumbling about how much they love (person) - if that's ur trope - or a secret, it's gonna make no sense. garbled nonsense, no full sentences, just a coupla words here and there.
if the concussion is mild, they're gonna feel fine. until....bam! out like a light. kinda funny to witness, but also a good time for some caretaking fluff.
Fever:
you die at 106F (40.5C). no 'oh no his fever is 107F!! ahhh!" no his fever is 0F because he's fucking dead. you lose consciousness around 103, sometimes less if it's a child. brain damage occurs at over 104.
ACTUAL SYMPTOMS:
sluggishness
inability to speak clearly
feeling chilly/shivering
nausea
pain
delirium
symptoms increase as fever rises. slow build that secret sickness! feverish people can be irritable, maybe a bit of sass followed by some hurt/comfort. never hurt anybody.
fevers are a big deal! bad shit can happen! milk that till its dry (chill out) and get some good hurt/comfort whumpee shit.
keep writing u sadistic nerds xox love you

I had an idea for a story a few hours ago:
(Bbu setting.) Carewhumper is a Pet Owner, who had a stable income and thus could afford one, Whumpee. Onde day, they lose most of their money and are thrown in misery. Almost nowhere to go, no food, no money, just their loyal Pet who is the only thing that they own now, and they can't bring themselves to sell.
The story would be relatively short, with the Owner and Whumpee trying to find food for Owner and Whumpee servicing them loyaly, struggling to survive. In the end, however, Owner doesn't manage to survive and the only one left in Whumpee.
End :D
