How is this different from IDF? Masked man, no credentials, hauling off middle-aged middle-class women for observing a peaceful protest. A professor, no less. The Chair.
Women on the front lines while men play barbaric dress-up. Says it all.

This week, over 350 rabbis from the USA, together with some American Jewish creatives and activists, took a full-page ad in the New York Times to oppose Trump's plan for the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians from Gaza.

this pride, i learnt about the Palestinian trans woman Oscar Al-Halabiye, dancer and resistance fighter against the israeli occupation in Southern Lebanon. she named herself Oscar after Lady Oscar from the "The Rose of Versailles", a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Riyoko Ikeda.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
her story is documented in Cinema Fouad(1993). zionists use pink washing to reinforce their genocidal terrorist narrative when queer Palestinians have been fighting against the occupation since the very beginning. you can watch it here with english subtitles. long live the intifada!

You know what?
It pisses me off that it seems most of Tumblr is incapable of supporting Palestinians without also a) denying Jews are indigenous to the Levant (this is supported by overwhelming archaeological, cultural, historical, and genetic evidence), b) attacking "Zionists" (those who support the Jewish peoples' right to self-determination in their homeland), or c) engaging in thinly-veiled or open calls for violence.
I really, truly want to like and reblog more posts supporting the rights of Palestinians, and sharing and empathizing with the perspectives of Palestinian people. That DOES matter. It SHOULDN'T, MUSTN'T be ignored or forgotten or dismissed. Because people are people. But it seems difficult to even find posts that do any of that without ALSO peddling anti-semitic conspiracy theories/misinformation, or outright calling for the death or expulsion of Jews, which is not something that I can support. And what really pisses me off is, a lot of this isn't even coming from Palestinians. Its coming from white Westerners, who think they've found an acceptable target for a new (or very old) witch hunt.
Sometimes it seems like the only posts I can find that do avoid this, aside from my own, are... ones by Jewish/Israeli Leftists. Or as the (often white western) "Pro-Palestinians" on Tumblr would call them, "genocidal Zionists".

Using "Legalize" as a term to cover up the theft of people's homes and livelihoods is expected at this point from the NYT. The "free" press is complicit in the manufacturing of consent to not only destroy Gaza, but to also annex the West Bank. Free Palestine.

[ID: A video clip showing a Black person in a green coat interviewing an elderly white person holding up a flag, with more protesters in the background displaying Palestinian flags.
The interviewer asks, "Why is it important for you to be here today?"
The protester responds, "Well, uh, I'm Jewish, I'm Israeli, my parents were the only survivors of their families from the Holocaust. They both survived Auschwitz. I'm not going to support genocide am I?
"I'm here with the Palestinians, and we are here with Palestine, because we don't believe that what the British government is doing is correct. The British government is supporting this genocide! It's arming Israel, it's financing Israel.
"BBC and the other media here is supporting genocide. This is illegal. This is immoral. We don't agree with it, we will never agree with it, and as Jews -- and myself as Israeli -- I am totally against it, and we will continue to be against it.
There are now more than 60 such events in the whole of Britain, uh, people don't want to support this. They are against this government on so many other issues, but especially on this one."
Another elderly white protester next to the first joins in, leaning forward to add:
"And, also, this didn't start on October the 7th. In 1948, Palestinian villages, hundreds of them --"
Another elderly protester interjects specifically, "500 of them".
The second protestor nods and continues, "were demolished, thousands of Palestinians, innocent men, women, and children were slaughtered, and seven-hundred and fifty thousand Palestinian refugees were created. That's when it started, and it hasn't stopped since!"
End ID.]

the kids online safety act passed the u.s. senate.
long story short (for anyone who hadn't heard of this before) the kids online safety act, aka kosa, is a bill that will censor online content and resources for lgbtq+ matters, reproductive healthcare, activism (INCLUDING PALESTINE AND LIKELY OTHER CRISES GOING ON LIKE IN CONGO OR SUDAN), mental health, etc. everywhere--its effects likely won't be contained to just america.
today, july 30th, 2024, the senate passed it 91-3. it has officially moved to the house of representatives.
is this a pretty massive setback? yes. do you have every right to be scared, sad, angry, or whatever else about this happening? absolutely. but should you give up hope completely? NO!
even though kosa passed the senate, the house is on break/august recess at the moment. we have around an entire month to get emails, calls, and faxes in to house reps, maybe more depending on when they decide to vote on it.
should it pass the house and get signed into law, we still have a whole 18 months before it actually goes into effect. this is plenty of time for digital rights orgs (e.g. fight for the future, the electronic frontier foundation) and other groups that oppose it to file a lawsuit against it. even if, worst-case scenario, it flies through the house immediately after the recess ends, we can still fight this up to march 2026.
so, yes, remember what's at stake here, but also remember that it's not over yet. we lost a battle, not the war.
below are some resources to learn more about kosa and how to contact your reps (first link) + a page that lets you directly contact progressive house reps, sign an open letter opposing the bill, and view others' testimonies against it (second link):
FIGHT. FIGHT. FIGHT.

A Reminder:
This blog opposes collective guilt or punishment based on race, ethnicity, religion (or lack thereof), or national origin.
Accordingly, it opposes vilification, conspiracy theories, threats of violence, violent attacks, and other forms of collective punishment directed Israelis or Jews, including calls for the destruction of Israel. It also acknowledges that Jews are indigenous to the Levant, based on overwhelming historical, cultural, archaeological, and genetic evidence, and basic fucking sense.
This DOES NOT mean that this blog endorses collective guilt or punishment of Palestinians, denying that Palestinians are a "real" people or nationality*, attempts to portray all Palestinians, Muslims, or Arabs as terrorists, or advocating their destruction or expulsion from any territory.
In particular, any comments or reblog advocating or excusing the destruction or expulsion of any group of people based on race, ethnicity, religion, nationality or national self-identification WILL be reported for violating Tumblr's policies against hate speech, and WILL result in a block, regardless of who does it or who it is directed at.
*I am aware that "Palestinian" as a national identity is fairly recent. However, new nations and national identities have formed throughout history. As far as a claim to being indigenous to the Levant is concerned, I am of the view that a land can have more than one indigenous group, that neither Jewish nor Palestinian indigenousness inherently invalidates the other. And while it is correctly pointed out that neither Arabic nor Islam nor the name "Palestine" originated from the Levant (Arabia, Arabia, and Rome, respectively), genetic studies trace Palestinians' ancestry back to the Canaanites, along with other groups.
