"i love you. so much.”
“your hugs are the best.”
“could you get any cuter?”
I couldn't choose between these three, so I'll let you pick how many and which ones you do.
Ed happened upon DVDs by chance at the local Hastings. Technically, he was supposed to be grocery shopping. He promised Sonic chili dogs for dinner on Saturday, and he needed to restock on food, anyway.
He passed the game and book store on his daily commute, and decided to stop there on a whim. He didn't usually see the need to visit, as he didn't really have anyone to play the games he used to enjoy with.
Except now he had a family. A family that, weirdly enough, seemed to keep getting bigger. Somewhere after gaining Hal and Sonic, he somehow managed to add Alan and Sam to the family after reuniting Tron with his user.
Families were supposed to spend time together. Game night was supposed to be a normal family activity, right? Ed was pretty sure it was, even if he never had that with his family when he was growing up. There was one that he particularly liked, called Traveller, that he thought Clu and Hal would like, and he was pretty certain he could get Sonic and Tron on board as well.
What was intended to be a quick trip to the store to see if they had the rule book ended with Ed carrying a stack of books for various games he thought his family would enjoy. Which had led him to wander the store, looking for other things he could do with his sons.
And that was how he found the boxed DVD set of Carl Sagan's Cosmos television series. He also found a cartoon based on one of the superhero comics that Sonic liked, and added it to the pile
Admittedly Ed had been so excited to show Clu, Hal, and Sonic what he found that he almost forgot about the groceries.
(Ed got the grocery shopping done in record time.)
Ed was greeted by a blue blur when he arrived home. "Hi, Daddy!" Sonic chirped, giving Ed a hug.
"Hi, sunshine!" Sonic's excitement was adorable, and Ed smiled as he hugged Sonic back, planting a kiss to the top of his head.
Could he get any cuter?
(The answer was yes. Always. Sonic only seemed to get more and more adorable every day.)
The grocery bags disappeared from his hands moments later.
"User?" Clu called, emerging from the office.
"Ed? You're home early," Hal said from behind the Administrator.
"Hello, my brilliant Nebula!" Ed greeted Clu with a hug. "And hello to you, my radiant Nova," he greeted Hal, just as warmly.
By the time Ed had turned around, the groceries were all put away (Ed swore Sonic and Clu were conspiring to keep him away from the groceries since they knew he would never ask for their help. Ed didn't understand it, but he knew trying to fight it was futile.
"Daddy, what's this?" Sonic asked when he got to the last bag.
Ed shifted, suddenly nervous, although he had no idea why. "I thought maybe we could do a family night," he admitted. "Watch a movie or play a game?"
Clu and Hal went over to see what Sonic was looking at.
"The justice league cartoon is for you, Sonic, the Cosmos is for Clu and Hal, and I thought everyone might enjoy Star Trek... Although the plan is to watch all of them together. The books are... Well, I used to enjoy Traveller when I was in high school and college, and I thought Hal and Clu might like it. The rules are a bit number-crunchy, though. I haven't played Prawlers and Paragons—it's a newer one, but the rules look a little easier, and I thought it would also be fun."
Ed wasn't certain how he expected his sons to react, but Hal hugging him was a surprise. He usually wouldn't go for it unless Ed offered. Ed suspected Hal was still uncertain of whether or not he belonged with Ed and his family, despite Ed's efforts to include him.
"Thank you," Hal whispered. "Chandra used to read Carl Sagan's books to Sal and me."
Ed hugged Hal back. "You're welcome,"
A moment later, Ed was sandwiched between Clu and Hal in a hug, and Sonic's arms were wrapped around Ed's neck in a hug.
Ed laughed in surprise.
"Thank you, User!" Clu said, at the same time Sonic said, "thank you, Daddy!"
"Your hugs are the best," Ed said softly, practically melting in his sons' embrace.
"Whose?" Sonic asked.
"You think I could pick?" Ed chuckled. "All three of you. I love you all so much."

Hypothesis: Aziraphale HATES that Crowley is living in his car.
Supporting evidence:
The very first thing we see him do in the present is stop Maggie from moving out and making sure she feels welcome to stay as long as she likes.
He clearly knows Crowley’s unhappy before anything happens in the plot: “Does it calm you down?”. And also clearly feels helpless about it. Enter the conspicuous Eccles cakes: Aziraphale’s offer, which is rejected.
Crowley’s obviously, for all his hedging, spending a lot of time at the bookshop— so much that he has his own glasses perch and feels immediately comfortable removing them. See also: “Technically my bookshop but we both get plenty of use out of it”, “Why don’t you wait inside? You like waiting inside”.
It’s Crowley who immediately shoves the box of plants into Aziraphale’s arms after Aziraphale returns from Scotland.
Speaking of Scotland, why wouldn’t Aziraphale take the train? Why insist on driving the Bentley? Is it perhaps because he wants to get Crowley and his plants into the shop, and thinks if he creates a situation where Crowley has to stay there, maybe he won’t immediately leave again?
He’s got an empty bedroom and an apparently pathological need to make the person staying there very comfortable, creating cute little customized souvenirs like he’s an Air B&B host (displacement!).
He immediately jumps to having Gabriel stay with him— he didn’t have to. Arguably, both Gabriel and Aziraphale would be safer if Gabe stayed elsewhere.
That’s what I’ve got for now but I’m sure there’s more. Throughout the show, watch what Aziraphale gives to others and does for others, and it’ll tell you what he wants to do for Crowley. He’s living so deeply in displacement in makes him come across as manic and brittle.
(What probably happened is Aziraphale offered the spare bedroom and Crowley, who unconsciously didn’t want to be his roommate or sleep in a single bed with Aziraphale right downstairs because how could the poor lovesick boy cope with that, told him he wasn’t a “good deed” for Aziraphale to do and stormed off.)
Conclusion: Aziraphale asked Crowley to stay at his place, immediately and probably repeatedly. They had a row about it, and Crowley refused, and to this day Aziraphale doesn’t understand why.
And it hurts him.

hot take ??
the only reason people say that "mafuyu and tsukasa have nothing in common" when presented with mafukasa parallels is because they equate mafuyu and tsukasa being similar to "tsukasa has depression" because the fandom equates mafuyu's personality to being depressed and nothing else.
it doesn't help that people (primarily younger people in the fandom) who DO believe in mafukasa parallels end up making the mistake of portraying tsukasa as depressed because as of right now he is not (although it's possible he was in past because of his Very Unclear Middle School Backstory but that's irrelevant)
anyways, mafuyu and tsukasa are narrative foils because their core personalities are built off of the concept of wanting to make the people around them— especially their families— happy.
they both developed personalities at a young age based on someone they looked up to. for tsukasa, it was seiichi amami's performance that inspired him to be a star— a hero that could cheer anyone up. for mafuyu, it was her mother taking care of her that inspired her to be a nurse— and you can see the similarities from there.
for mafuyu, her identity would first come into conflict when her mother expressed her want for mafuyu to be a doctor— suddenly, "everyone's" happiness didn't match what she wanted to do, leaving her in a state of disorder and eventual depression.
for tsukasa, his identity was something he nearly forgot in its entirety at the start of the main story— becoming arrogant and fully absorbed in a hero persona, forgetting the kind person he truly is. furthermore, his current character arc seems to be foreshadowing that what "being a star" to him is going to be called into question— maybe it is something more than just being the main character that saves everyone.
their insecurities are incredibly similar.
in mafuyu's first mixed, mafuyu feels insecure towards ichika because unlike ichika, she feels as if her lyrics have no genuine meaning to be expressed to other people— despite them being her very real feelings. this is brought up again in her second mixed as well.
in tsukasa's third focus event, something similar happens. when watching seiichi's performance, he thinks that his acting is "real" and feels inferior towards him, which is ironic because tsukasa has been method acting this whole time. when tsukasa is acting out rio or bartlett or really anyone at this point in the story, it's not just those characters— it's a reflection of his traumas.
just like mafuyu, tsukasa undermines his passions he's poured his feelings into because someone else's work is more genuine in his eyes.
now, then, foils have many similarities and parallels (and i could honestly list a lot more), but how i define them is that they usually have some kind of major branching difference that MAKES them foils.
for mafuyu and tsukasa it's pretty straightforward.
mafuyu's people pleasing behavior comes from external expectations and pressures— her mother's demands.
tsukasa's people pleasing behavior comes internally, from himself— if he can't meet his own standards, if he can't be the perfect big brother or the perfect star, then he is nothing.
and even then, there's some overlap.
tsukasa's behavior was indirectly encouraged by his mother praising him for being a "good big brother" over the phone instead of asking him if he was okay while home alone.
mafuyu's terrified to be herself around other people because she doesn't want to worry or bother them— she doesn't want to be a burden— and projects her mother's expectations onto them, not realizing that they would prefer the real mafuyu if they knew the truth.
and the concept of mafukasa being foils is most perfectly and blatantly portrayed in these two cards.
mafuyu, the marionette, sitting limp on the floor— puppeteered by her mother's demands and donning a mask to hide her true self.
tsukasa, the jester, standing above everything else— puppeteering silenced plushies— his feelings. he's not being completely honest with himself, and he doesn't even realize it.
mafuyu has cut her strings and ripped her mask in half. she has acknowledged her true feelings and expressed them to her mother, even if she had to run away in the end.
tsukasa has not yet cut his.
