for some reason, I've been thinking on the aftercare of some of the guys.

like with roman, I feel like aftercare fully depends on your relationship with him. a difference between a sugar baby and a partner, y'know?

but with dick—dick, in my opinion, KING of aftercare, you know he would treat you right. and bruce, bruce absolutely would.

it's where roy, jason, tim I'm a little stumped on. cause I feel like, I know they would be good with aftercare. I'm just trying to think of what they would do. thoughts?

I feel like w so many nsfw stuff, I was thinking about the potential fluff afterwards.

I rarely use this blog to educate unless asked (you’re always free to ask me anything), but I feel a need to remind people that aftercare, just like any other stage of sex, is something that is different for all couples. No two people are the same and you should be discussing with your partners what you want/need/expect to feel loved and cared for in the same way you would discuss kinks and what not.

Tim specifically is a talk it out kind of guy. Like, not before you started sleeping together, but in the aftermath of your first tryst he lay beside you, panting, enjoying the afterglow for a few minutes until he asks “What now?”

Without guidance he airs on caution. He’ll clean you up, offer to fetch you food and drink, you can use his shower, or borrow his clothes. He’ll want to check on any potential abrasions (biting, spanking etc), and instead of asking you if want to be held he’ll just sort of lounge beside you with his arms open, like an open invitation.

He's dutiful, so ultimately whatever you ask him for he will provide, and he's very open about telling you what he expects in return.

Until you’ve talked about it, and I mean ‘you can trust me, I wont judge, I want you to be comfortable, you deserve to be looked after too’-talked, Jason is the one that needs to be nudged into aftercare. He doesn’t want to force anything on you, he doesn’t know how to talk about it anyway, and he really doesn’t want to seem needy by asking you to look after him. So, he just sort of lingers.

“You ok? Yeah? Good, good. Me? Yeah, I’m fine. No, I don’t need anything. Cool. Stay? No, yeah, I can stay if you want me too.”

He’ll let you cuddle up to him, he’ll watch your shows or read your book with you, but he’s like a deer, if you acknowledge him, he’ll run.

At least until he’s comfortable with you, until you've done the talking and have created a mutually trusting relationship. Until he’s in love with you. Then he’s got you and your aftercare needs committed to memory, move over Dick, there’s a new king in town.

Roy's ideal aftercare is more quality time than anything. He likes to know that you want to be around him, that it’s not just sex, but his own mind wanders. Roy likes to be tucked up, cuddled in bed with you while you’re both doing your own thing, scrolling your phones, reading, gaming, whatever.

However, if you need something more attentive, if you need to talk, or be pampered etc he’ll make every effort to account for that, just be prepared to have to remind him every now and again. It’s not that he doesn’t want to, he's just easily distracted.

I was wondering if you think Jason and Roy could genuinely be friends or even just work together in canon, including Roy’s canon personality and history (his addiction, lian, relationship with jade, the titans, the arrowfam, etc). And including Jason’s canon personality and history (even though that completely changes like. Every 5 years lmao)

I’m kinda divided on it because I think it can be fun but every time a writer has tried they’ve either butchered Roy or both of them :/

To be honest I think that anyone can be friends with anyone. Excluding the New 52, Roy and Jason have been friendly together when Jason was Robin, and while it’s easy to say “Roy would never want to associate with Jason!” That just isn’t really the kind of person he is. I feel like a lot of the time when people are criticising Jayroy, particularly in terms of the butchering of Roy’s character in the New 52, they kinda tend to go to an opposite but equal extreme- rejecting Roy’s feelings towards Jason in the New 52 by also getting his character wrong but in an opposite direction. One of Roy’s key defining traits is that he is incredibly forgiving, and I don’t think he’d immediately reject Jason as a friend without trying to help him especially since he already knew Jason before he died. I’m in no means a Jason expert so take what I’m saying here with a pinch of salt, my dearly beloved friend @bitter-hibiscus is definitely a way better source for this sort of thing, but that’s my thoughts :)

I have come to realize, I don't quite understand what a back-up story is? Like, do some comic issues just sometimes have too much space for the main story so they include another, smaller comic at the back?

No, it's usually the reverse: the creators have a story they like, but that's too short to make up a full comic, so they attach it as a bonus feature after the A-story.

To me, the acme of how to do backup stories are Chris Claremont's Classic X-Men. In an era before trade paperback and omnibus collections were common, in an era before there were digital comics libraries where you could access the entire back catalogue of entire companies on demand, Classic X-Men reprinted everything from the Roy Thomas/Neal Adams Silver Age through to the big hits of the first hundred or so issues of the Claremont run with edited captions and dialogue and interstitial panels and pages of new art.

However, Chris Claremont wasn't satisfied with tinkering around the edges, so the first 44 issues of Classic X-Men included backup stories by him and Ann Nocenti. These short (usually ~8 page) stories included a lot of "deleted scenes" - so you get to see how things that are alluded to but not shown in the main narrative, like the beginning of Logan and Jean's attraction in the immediate wake of Giant-Size #1, or Emma Frost's Hellfire Club scheming against Jason Wyngarde or Selene during the Dark Phoenix Saga, or Jean Grey wrestling with what it means to be the Phoenix with the help of Storm and Misty Knight, or why Nightcrawler stopped using his image inducer and came out of the closet as a mutant, etc. These scenes "danced between the raindrops" of canon, where they added richness and flavor to the main story without being essential reading.

But more and more, Claremont and Nocenti used these backup stories to fill out backstories through "period pieces." It is in these stories that we see Max Eisenhardt escape Auschwitz and tragically lose his daughter Anya, or go from being a Nazi hunter in South America to a mutant separatist terrorist when he learns the truth about Operation Paperclip. It is in these stories that we see Jean Grey's psychic powers awaken when she experiences the tragic death of her childhood friend Annie Richardson from inside Annie's mind, and how that shaped her understanding of life and death and what it means to be a mutant.

I would argue that these stories are essential reading, because they're often where Claremont (and Nocenti) found the emotional core of his characters, the motivational drives that make them who they are.

Alternatively, backup stories are where creators could take advantage of free "real estate" in anthology books, team-up books, and annuals to tell more fantastical and imaginative B-stories that wouldn't have fit within an overarching narrative. So we get weird stuff like Margali Szardos casting her adopted son Kurt Wagner into the literal Inferno of Dante Alighieri, or straight-edge Harlan County miner's son Sam Guthrie romantically abducted by an intergalactic cat burglar who also happens to be a cockney Joan Jett, and so on.

And that's what I like about backup stories - they're like miniature paintings, where the artists get to stretch their creative muscles free of the burden and pressure of the magnum opus.

Chapter Two: playing dress-up (Cassandra Sandsmark's POV)

Sometimes I feel like an imposter. Nothing makes me feel worse than the nightmare I’ve had for the past two or so years. In my dream, I’m eight years old again. I’m in the art and history museum by my house while my mom works in her office examining new items before displaying them to the public. I walked through the empty impressionist exhibit, mimicking the poses of the women in the paintings. I stretched like the elegantly poised dancers and leaned forward, weary and worn like the exhausted women in their pretty dresses in other paintings. I hear a giggle in the empty exhibits. It was out of a strange curiosity that I did it. They were women. I thought I should be like them.

I heard a giggle in the empty exhibit. It filled me with an indescribable feeling of shame. I froze, trying to ignore it at first. But it echoed. “Who’s there?” I asked before turning around. Without warning, mirrors surrounded me, but instead of seeing my reflection, I saw nothing but myself in my different costumes and outfits over the years. I thought it was a prank. I always thought it was a prank at first. “Okay, cut it out!”

I turned to leave the room, but there weren’t any exits. Then, one of my reflections spoke. “What are you trying to prove?” fourteen-year-old me asked.

“Who are you trying to be?” sixteen-year-old me asked. I opened my mouth to answer the questions before my seventeen-year-old self snickered.

“What are you really wondering, girl?” my seventeen-year-old self asked.

Then, they all started teasing and jeering at me, bringing up my worst insecurities. They told me I wasn’t a real Amazon. They told me I’d never stop trying to imitate the ones that came before me. I was a cheap copy of every woman I admired. For all my strength and power, I was a pathetic excuse for a hero. I was nothing but a fraud. At this point, I would’ve started shattering the mirrors until my knuckles bled, but a small hand caught my fist. “Why are you hurting yourself?” the voice asked. I looked at her with tears in my eyes. She was a little girl with brown hair and serious eyes.

“I-.” I tried to speak but couldn’t give her a sensible answer. “They’re right… I don’t even know who I’m supposed to be. I’ve been playing dress-up my whole life.”

“Everybody plays dress-up sometimes,” she replied. She hooked her fingers into the mirror and opened it like a door. “Do you wanna play one last time?”

I wanted to say no, but she had the sweetest smile. We entered the room filled with costumes, clothes, and wigs. I hesitated before picking something, but she spun through the room and changed into items like a magical princess. I smiled, and it felt like we played for hours. She didn’t judge me or expect me to change, so I felt free to try things I hadn’t before. Different outfits and wigs that I thought were cool. And I told her stuff I wouldn’t tell anyone. “I never felt more at home than when it was just me and the guys… I didn’t have to be anything with them,” I smiled, “And if we’re being honest, I thought I had a crush on Conner, but I-.” I trailed off.

“What do you mean?” she asked.

“It sounds dumb, but I thought the only way people would see me as an Amazon is if I looked like the ones I idolized,” I confessed, “And then I kept trying harder and harder to be feminine-. That’s not what I wanted to be.”

“What do you want to be?” she questioned. I looked in the mirror while I fidgeted with my wig and straightened the waist of my side button track pants.

I slipped on a pair of goggles and smiled. “I don’t think I want to be Wonder Girl anymore. I think it’s time I stop pretending,” I smiled.

I called Bart, Cissie, and Conner to the park to hang out while I tried to find the words to explain my feelings. Bart arrived first with Cissie and swept me off my feet in an embrace. “It’s been a million years! How’s it going? Wait-. What’s wrong? There’s something wrong,” Bart greeted me. He held my shoulders as he looked me over.

I chuckled and hugged him. “Not like you to notice stuff like that. How are you?” I asked. Bart’s face changed for a split second, almost frowning.

“I’m great. I can’t complain. Max is back,” Bart replied. Cissie hugged me and laughed.

“My turn, okay?” Cissie smiled at Bart. “How’s it going, Cassie?”

“Um… I don’t know yet,” I answered.

Conner and Tim came through together. “Hey! Conner brought food!” Tim shouted.

I hugged them, and we walked toward the picnic tables. We sat at the table, and I stuck my fingers in the patterned holes in the metal. “I’m not-. I don’t have-. I’m not going to be Wonder Girl anymore,” I announced.

Bart stood up to protest. “Why?” Bart asked.

“Because I don’t-. I’m not-. I don’t-. I’m nonbinary,” I stammered. I raked a hand through my hair and started rambling about how I never felt like a girl and how hard I tried to be a girl. “So, um-. So when I change my look and my costume and name-. I wanted you guys to be the first to know.”

We sat silently for a few seconds, and Conner poked his lips out and cleared his throat. “At the risk of sounding insensitive, these tacos will taste terrible cold,” Conner mumbled. I chuckled, and everyone else laughed, too.

We ripped the bag open and started eating before Conner stopped to look at me. “Hey, Cassie, we love you. You know that, right? That’s never going to change,” Conner reassured me.

“Cassie, we’re a family,” Tim added.

“Yeah, Cassie, we’re happy you told us,” Cissie smiled. Bart didn’t say anything.

Instead, he waited until everyone left and sat with me. “Bart? Are you okay?” I asked.

“I-. I’m glad you called. I’ve been-. I’ve felt down in the dumps for a while now, and it felt good to see you guys. I know you’re-. I’m nonbinary like you. It’s more common in the future, but I get how-. You don’t-. You and me. We don’t talk about our feelings,” Bart explained. I never expected Bart to say he was depressed.

“Bart, are you okay?” I asked. “I’m pretty sure my mom-.”

He burst into tears. “I feel like everyone’s fading away,” Bart cried, “And I don’t want that. I want you to stay. I want Cissie, Conner, and Tim to stay. I wake up every day wondering if the people I see will disappear or if I’ll-.”

I hugged him. “Bart, I love you so much,” I replied, “You jerks are my best friends… And in true best friends fashion, I’ll tell you a secret, and if you ever tell Conner I will kill you with my bare hands.”

Bart stopped crying and nodded. “I won’t,” Bart promised.

“I used to think I had a crush on him, but I realized something… I wanted to be more like him,” I confessed.

“I thought everyone felt that way about him… Well-. Not Cissie, but almost everybody. I’m behind everybody maturity-wise, but I’m catching up quickly. He’s the oldest and the coolest in the group, so it’s only natural,” Bart replied. I grinned.

“You’re right… And-. Bart, let me text my mom. It can’t hurt for you to spend the night at my house-.”

“I can’t sleep,” Bart confessed. It seemed like a big deal. So, I grabbed his big head and kissed the top of it.

“If you still can’t sleep, we’ll stay up all night talking. We definitely have to talk about your gender,” I smiled. Bart nodded.

do you have any recommendations for dick and jason (together or separate, both is fine) comics for someone who’s just starting to read them? i have some knowledge of the characters and batfam and i’ve read several batman comics, but i never really got into the robins-after-they-were-robins comis so i’d like to start with dick and jason…thank you so much :)

so firstly, i deffo reason waaay more jason than i do dick. most of my dick recs will be things i haven't finished reading or haven't read more than like 3 random back issues of XD

dick:

any nightwing solo is a good place to start (okay, not any, but you can find comics on readcomiconline and with an adblocker the site is useable. peruse the different nightwing runs, if it sucks drop it)

i've heard spyral is good, i think the comic might just be called "grayson"

pretty much any titans comic pre-2003 would be dick grayson (typically as robin, but not always)

there are some post 2003 titans comics with dick too

i like "the titans" (1999) the most, personally (my tip for finding the right titans run, because there are so many, is to look at the font of the title. then look at the author)

honestly if you're fine just jumping in and figuring it out as you go (which you kinda need to be), i'd sooo heavily rec that run to start you with

and, of course, there's the outsiders run from 2009 with dick and roy <3

jason:

i dont really have any robin-era jason recs, but he wasn't robin for too long, so if you're interested it's not too hard to read some!

death in the family (comic where he dies. it's weird and also islamophobic iirc, buut it's important to his backstory. not too long. im a slow slow slow heavily dyslexic reader and it only took me 2 days)

under the red hood (comic where he comes back. a longer read, but VERY fun. villain jason and competent jason. you understand the framework for all of his post-robin/post-resurrection drive)

lost days (also pretty long. i go back and forth on if i personally liked it. but it covers the time between him coming back to life and him returning to gotham- because he stayed gone even after he came back)

red hood and the outlaws n52 (i think it came out in 2011)- this comic sucks, but it's kinda fun! i really enjoy it. if you're fanfic-inclined you might like it (because it prompts a lot of fun ideas without ever presenting very many on its own and never doing anything with them). it's the origin of the jason/roy thing which i am so obsessed with

red hood/arsenal (continuation of the last comic, now without The Girl.. buut kori was written really misogynistically so, congrats kori on getting free

then there's red hood and the outlaws rebirth (which is a different team and some ppl like this comic more), then there's red hood: outlaw, i forget if there's more or whatever the order is. there's also a webtoon with the same naming scheme. im collecting the physical comic, you'd think i'd know this. but these runs are LONG.

for current comics, there's "task force z" which came out like a year or two ago, and then "joker: the man who stopped laughing" which is mostly abt the joker but also about jason hunting him and trying to kill him

jason & dick, together:

honestly i dont read too much stuff with the both of them in it? idk. jason doesn't team up with many batfam ppl on the reg, i guess. like they're never really On A Team together. most of their comics together are from Events. but dick appears in task force z, a little red hood and the outlaws too, and jason is in a little bit of outsiders. like they have cameos, i mean.

there was a nightwing annual (i think 2021) about jason & dick teaming up.

they were both in robin war (but that's the conclusion of "we are robin") (not too long, i think it took me about a week to read all 3 paperbacks)

1. Yes, but what they know is not the full truth typically. Best example is in Young Justice, the world is made to believe their base is the Hall of Justice, when that’s just a ruse, the real base is an orbiting satellite in space called the Watchtower.

2. Yes the public knows about Batman. The degree of how much they know about him can vary by story.

3. Both? Definitely vigilante, but in Gotham that means hero.

4. Yes!! In fact, my favorite interpretation is that people think Superman doesn’t even have a secret identity, and that his “secret identity” is as his birth self, Kal-El, and that he lives in the fortress of solitude. Lex Luthor uses xenophobia to rally people, saying that an alien shouldn’t be a protector of/champion for humanity.

Recently, he was aged up for various reasons, so he’s roughly 18 I THINK, which puts him a few years ahead of Damian which made people Not Thrilled. He has operated (and I think technically still is operating) as Superman himself, and he is bisexual!!

9. Yep still Nightwing (Dick Grayson). Stephanie Brown, Damian Wayne, and Tim Drake are up there too.

10. I have a FEW: Donna Troy, Cassie Sandsmark, Duke Thomas, Carrie Kelly, and I’m definitely missing some but that’s what I’m thinking of rn.

11. Okay so the college thing I believe is a fanon thing, but I love it. She is a psychologist or psychiatrist (can’t remember which rn), though her license has probably been revoked several times over by now. She did leave the joker, and has an amazing girlfriend (Poison Ivy) now. She and Batman aren’t friends-friends, but they aren’t particularly enemies either. Fanon will fluctuate with that though. Take your pick!

12. Yes!! The secret Batfamily stuff is a non-canon compliant fanon trope (that I do love to read and see, but don’t want in canon)

13. Depends on who you ask. Truly. He has done some bad stuff to his kids in the comics, but that’s what happens when hundreds of writers and artists all give their own take on the character, over now almost 100 years. I personally prefer Good Dad Batman, and tenddddd to choose to ignore the terrible things he did in canon on occasion. Others don’t, and that’s okay.

The gang start to have a little too much fun as thing get a bit heated up as they loosen up further into the night.

Superman x Nightwing pairing

I watched Kal and Bruce dance now at a fair distant from each other.

I grabbed Roy and Jason by the arm and pulled them in the middle of the living room.

I put myself in between them as the tempo went from slow to fast moving beat.

I sway my waist with the beat of the song I pulled Jason in front of me and Roy went behind me.

This is how I would distract Bruce.

Jason stared at me unsure but put his hands on my hip as Roy followed suit.

I can't ever imagine doing this type of thing with Jason but, I found a chance to pull this off if Jason brought Roy here for this reason then I needed to use it.

Bruce stood there now watching us dance to the beat of the song.

Kal watched me the whole time as soon I pulled Jason and Roy Kal attention was automatically on us.

I could see Kal enjoying this I never knew he was into this type of stuff, I mean he told me what he liked but this was new.

Jason kissed Roy from behind me and I let them knowing we are doing a show for them.

When they broke off Conner and Tim were standing there. Tim face red as a tomato and Conner had a big smile on his face I looked at him he looked so much like Kal it was unreal.

Conner looked at us and felt content in being here. he didn't feel weird at all dancing like this open and free.

Alfred put something in the bloody Mary's I swear.

Kal went in between me and Jason Kal facing Jason as he held on to him pressing himself onto him. I turned to Roy and dance with him.

The boys stared in amazement as Bruce just watched us.

He leaned by the fireplace cool eyes on me mostly.

I watched Kal discretely in the corner of my eye he was loosened up a whole lot the way he is dancing with Jason.

Jason enjoying every minute of it.

I smiled to myself this was nuts good let be nuts I needed it.

"What are you thinking about." Roy whispered in my ear.

"Oh nothing you dance well."

"Liar."

"They're hot."

"Tim and Conner."

"They're cute I was talking about Jason and Clark."

"Hmm you like to watch." I instantly blushed at that and I am very stunned Roy would say this type of stuff.

"I...no Jason my brother."

"Yeah only by name...So you're into that stuff or what." I laughed I am into my own kink but voyeurism I never tried that and I don't think I would ever get off on that.

But watching Kal and Jason made me feel drawn to them, I shook my head. "I don't know if I can give a real answer to that." Roy hummed at that and spun me around and he was strong and it thrilled me a bit but I didn't know why.

"Did you and Jason ever do that type of stuff."

"Not as much now but back then yes all the time."

"Oh... Well that's something."

"Is it. I applaud you nabbing Superman he's everyone's hot dream." As Roy stroked my face and licked his lips.

I didn't know what to do or say I wanted to leave but he didn't let me break out of his grasp he held on tighter.

"Don't run." He said swinging me a way from Bruce who is watching Kal dance with Jason.

"Roy let go." I started to pull a little.

"Kiss me and I will let go." I didn't want to do that here but in a way it would take the suspicion off of me and Kal.

I leaned in and kissed him on the lips Tim yelp and Conner cat called.

Roy's tongue sneaked in then I pulled back.

Barbara I thought but she didn't call me I was thinking something was wrong but I was being silly.

Bruce I wonder why he broke Jason and Roy a long ago.

I never understood the real reason why.

Jason came and pulled Roy away from me and they grabbed more bloody Mary's.

"I don't think any of you could go home tonight we can't have you drinking and driving, Stay the night all of you I needed to go to the cave for a moment." Bruce left us as he made his way down the hall.

I went outside Kal and Jason Roy followed after me leaving Conner and Tim behind.

I needed some air and to think I was trapped like a rat in a maze wanting to leave.

"I can't stay here we can't stay here I mean I am tipsy but that's it."

"You kissed Dick why ?" Kal replied to Roy arms crossed

"I needed to flirt with him Bruce is watching our interaction and the fact that you two haven't said one word to each other is better that way the tension is not on you and Dick."Roy said apologetically.

"Forgive us Bruce knows something."

"I ended my marriage with Lois to be with Dick." The two of them went quiet as a church mouse.

"Wow you and Lois were together for like a hundred years or something and it took Dick to dismantle it." Roy said as he pulled on the iron gate.

Jason went quiet. "How will you keep it a secret from Bruce and the rest, It will be difficult for the both of you to keep that a secret." Jason said but with no judgement.

"I need to keep this quiet till we could stall for more time for anything really." Kal said.

"You two are so hot together though don't you think babe." Roy turns to Jason who is scrubbing his face. "I think the bloody Mary's are getting to you." Jason quipped.

"No I am serious look at them." Roy insisted and Jason turned and looked at us.

"Huh my older brother with Superman it is what it is."

"Maybe he can go to my club and have some fun." Roy said tugging at Jason sleeve.

"I don't know...... that's for people who are into that shit." Jason frowning at Roy.

"I am gamed."

"No Clark your not."

"Yes I am."

"Clark Roy over-thinks things and he gets carried away with this type of stuff." Jason is trying to make an excuse for us not to be pulled into Roy's ploy.

But they didn't no Kal from what he told me and how he is a total freak when he needs to turn it on.

"I 'm gamed boys."

"Fine but have a feel of the place first." Jason said worried the fact that Jason worries makes me feel humanity hasn't failed on us yet.

"Fine."

"Great."

"We better get inside before Bruce notice we left."

We all went inside the manor quickly.

Pick Me Up

Jason Todd x Reader x Roy Harper

Prompt: Hey can you come pick me up?

Summary: (Y/N)’s date has ditched them and they know better than to walk alone at dark, especially in Gotham. They call Jason and Roy and end up getting more than a ride, they’re not complaining.

Notes: Hurt/comfort. Reader is gender-neutral, they/them pronouns are used! 1.2k words.

Maybe it wouldn’t be as bad if they didn’t actually kind of like their date. Their date seemed like a genuinely nice and sweet person, passionate about their life and their dreams, and listening to what they had to say. The two laughed together, sharing jokes and stories.

(Y/N) pulled out their phone, hesitating. Roy and Jason were both probably not doing (anti-)hero stuff at the moment, however that didn’t mean that they were free. Roy was constantly working and tinkering on something and Jason was always looking into whatever they were currently working on, or the next thing they could work on.

Still, they knew better than to walk alone in the dark in Gotham. Their own apartment was a bit of a walk away too. Biting their lip, (Y/N) opens the contact, hitting the call button.

It rings once, twice, thrice, and then on the fourth ring he picks up. “Hey sweetheart, what’s up?”

They already feel just a tiny bit better hearing Jason’s voice.

“Hey, can you come pick me up?” There’s some shuffling on the other end as Jason moves around.

“Are you okay?” His voice is laced with concern and their heart hurts a little less.

“Yeah I just,” They pause to gather themself. “I just need a ride. My date ditched me.”

“They fucking what?” There’s more movement on the other side as Jason’s voice takes on a more angry tone before he inhales sharply. It takes him a few more seconds before he speaks again, this time more calmly, but they can still pick out the anger. “Where are you? I’ll come get you, sweetheart.”

Quickly they give him their location. “Stay there, I’ll be there soon.”

“Okay.” They hear Jason shout Roy’s name before he hangs up, leaving (Y/N) with their thoughts.

What went wrong? The date seemed to be going well, their date was fantastic, the place they picked was good. Did it have something to do with (Y/N)? Did they talk too much? Not enough? Was there something off about their appearance? Did they decide (Y/N) was just not what they were looking for in a partner? No. That’s not really grounds for abandoning a date during said date. Something like that is what you tell your date afterwards. So what the fuck happened?

(Y/N) losing themself in their thoughts, didn’t notice Jason until he’s right in front of them.

“Sweetheart. (Y/N).” Their eyes finally focus on Jason, a frown on his lips. “Hey.”

(Y/N) shakes their head. “Sorry. Hi. Thanks for coming.” Forcing a shaky smile on their face they move towards the motorcycle with Jason following his own helmet still in hand.

“You wanna talk about it?” Their face falls as they stand, the spare helmet in their hands. Shaking their head they get on the motorcycle. Jason nods in return, getting on. Kicking the stand, they’re off.

(Y/N) holds on to Jason, head pressed against him, staying quiet. Still lost in thought they don’t notice Jason driving towards his and Roy’s apartment until they stop. Turning their head to Jason they see him already in the process of taking his helmet off and as if he can see the confusion despite (Y/N) still having their own helmet on, he speaks up.

“If you thought me and Roy were gonna leave you by yourself after what happened, you don’t know us that well. Now come on sweetheart, Roy’s waitin’ for us.” It takes them a moment to react, their heart swelling. Their breath caught in their throat as they blink back tears. They haven’t cried tonight and they don’t really plan on doing so.

Jason waits until their helmet is off before offering his hand to them. With a small smile they take it. Jason wastes no time (gently) pulling them along.

Up the stairs they go, arriving at a familiar wooden door. A quick, specific knock allows the door to open revealing one grinning Roy Harper.

“Hey babe. Sweetheart.” Roy directs the second endearment to (Y/N) with a wink. “Come on.” He takes their other hand, pulling both them and Jay in. “I got everything set up.”

Before they can question that too much they spot the pillow-blanket fort set up in the living room, bags of different types of snacks strewn around it.

“Wait hold on, I gotta get the ice cream.” Roy lets go of their hand to do just that.

“What,” they turn from the fort to look at Roy then Jason. “what is all of this?”

“Well you didn’t think we’d let you throw a pity party by yourself, did you?” Now holding three small tubs of ice cream Roy is opening a drawer to grab spoons.

“Thank you.” It comes out quieter than intended. (Y/N) was always grateful for these two. They were without fail, one of the best parts of their life.

“You wanna get changed?” They turn towards Jason. “If you wanna stay in that though I’m not complaining, you look great. Just figured you would be more comfortable in something else.”

Laughing, (Y/N) nods. “Yeah, that sounds great. Thank you.” Their feet carry them over to the spare bedroom to find some clothes there.

They re-enter the living space in different clothes and Roy quickly shoves a tub of ice cream in their hand before taking the other to pull them to the fort. Jason’s already there fiddling with the remote, one of their favorite movies already on.

“Get comfortable. We’ve got games, movies and a bunch of other shit we can do tonight. But ice cream first. Jaybird really hates refreezing ice cream.”

“It’s fucking weird. It tastes weird.” Jason says, settling down next to them.

“Ice cream is ice cream, babe.” Roy argues, sitting down on their other side, passing Jason his own tub and spoon.

(Y/N) shrugs. “I don’t think there’s a problem refreezing it.”

Jason grumbles, not willing to argue further but hits the play button and opens his tub. The three leave the topic behind, throwing in quips and comments, and debating the decisions the characters make throughout the movie. And eventually they do in fact play some video games after another movie.

They’ve just finished a part of the game, the talking dying down before (Y/N) speaks up again. “Thank you for this. I really appreciate it. I appreciate you guys. Best pity party I’ve had.” A small, gentle smile on their face.

Jason throws an arm around their shoulders. “We’ve got your back, sweetheart.” A big smile on his face.

Roy has a matching one on his as he gives them a noogie. “Always. Now come on, I wanna move on to the next thing.”

They all take the controllers back into their hands and (Y/N) thinks that yeah, these two do have their back, they always have, and believes they always will.

I will not play abusive characters if they are a main character. If they're a side character that is fine, but if they are a main character I won't do it.

I think we need to be more forgiving of people who are new to comics. Comics are a really inaccessible medium and especially if you're trying to get into one of the big two companies you're inevitably going to be confused and uninformed. I've been reading DC comics for about a year now (not including watchmen or wonder woman by Greg Rucka which I read years ago but didn't manage to get me into DC), and I've only really been a part of the fandom since July or August, and it's still really confusing and hard to tell what's fanon and what's canon. I have so many characters I haven't managed to read for at all despite wanting to, or only a handful of issues, or only minor appearances. I'd love to have read every single one of Roy Harper's pre-52 appearances but it's just not feasible, especially since DC particularly is inaccessible in another way - their app is only available to US residents. If you want to pay for comics then it's going to be expensive, even digitally - I managed to get Young Justice books 1-3 through comixology, which in itself is not a cheap subscription, but then the rest of the series is $20 a pop!! That's a lot of money!! And in print books go wayyyy higher, or even if they don't cost that much if you're buying a bunch then it's going to get expensive. But even if you're not paying it's confusing to just jump into something like this - don't get me wrong, this is what I've done both with marvel in 2015 and in DC last year, but it's not an easy thing to do and at first you're going to be fucking baffled. You're never going to know everything, it's not physically possible. Even for marvel, which, again, I've been reading since 2015, I haven't exactly come close to reading everything. I haven't even read every Deadpool comic, not even his main titles! I want to read gwenpool and moon knight and daredevil and non-spider-verse-related Spider-Man stories but it's just really fucking difficult to prioritize, not to mention keeping up with current runs.

And I'm doing my best, right? Like I recently finally managed to start reading superfam comics, and last year I started reading x men and scarlet witch, and as I said above I've been reading young justice, and I'm keeping up with like a dozen or more ongoings, and it's so fucking hard and I'm lucky to have enough disposable income and free time to do this. And people have been genuinely fucking mean to me. Like really super fucking dismissive bc how dare I ship the obvious most popular ship and not this more niche one when I haven't even read an appearance of that character!! How dare I not know everything about this run when I haven't gotten to that run yet bc I'm still trying to even track it down!! I can't prioritize comics I can't get my hands on when I have a shelf and a half of DC comics and I've only read about a third of it!!!

And it's worse for people who don't have the money and free time that I do . My parents pay my fucking rent and I only work part time, okay, I'm in a really privileged position. Some people are only reading the DC webtoons or only watching the young justice TV show and yeah it's frustrating to see so many people who don't know your favorite characters as much as you do, but I've been a Deadpool fan for close to eight years now and I've never gone onto anybody's page and told them that they're interpretation is bad and they should feel bad, I keep that shit to myself or AT WORST I complain to my friends in DMs or WhatsApp messages or whatever. The only stuff like this I complain about in public is stuff I consider genuinely harmful (the pit rage trope for Jason for example) or upon specific prompting, and even then I do it on MY blog, not somebody else's, and I don't tag it so people looking for content that they enjoy don't have to see it.

Like... Basically I feel like people are too harsh on casual, peripheral fans, or people who are new to the material, or even people who aren't new to comics but just don't know as much as you. A lot of people don't have any other options. You don't have to like the content they make. But actively going into their content or constantly making negative content about them is exhausting. I'm really tired of constantly seeing memes about how terrible batfam stans are. I don't even disagree, I just think you're annoying. But I don't reblog those posts just to shit on op. Maybe some of y'all should consider it.

Hi! I was reading a fanfic and it brought up Roy and Dick's fight, which I see a lot of in fics but never what they fought about and consequently why they don't talk. I thought it was a vague excuse/reason why Roy was Jason's friend not Dick's anymore but this fic brought up when Dick was batman so I was wondering if there was actually a fight between them? Btw I really enjoy your metas! They're v thought out and well articulated. Also it's v easy to separate what's your opinion and what's fact which is. Very helpful for me

Yeah this is one hundred percent a fanon thing that's kept deliberately vague to justify why Roy in his friendship with Jason seems to have no positive thoughts or concerns about Dick whatsoever. Now granted, Dick and Roy are not nearly as close in the New 52 as they were pre-Reboot. The lack of their friendship there is definitely one of the things I disliked most about the Reboot - and I actually don't care if Jason and Roy are friends tbh, its the total erasure of his history with Dick as if he can't be friends with both, that like, bugs most.

But so like, yeah, Roy and Dick aren't super close when they interact on the Titans in the New 52, but there's literally nothing in any of their interactions that explains the complete absence of him from Roy's life or a reason that Roy would like, hate him the way he tends to in a lot of Jason-centric fics.

When you factor in pre-Reboot stuff though, it starts to get a LOT more.....uh wyd? And this is why I have trouble buying that people just write Roy and Jason the way they do because its the only thing they know from recent comics. Like one, most fans talk about how they don't even read the source comics, so there's no reason their knowledge of the characters or events would be limited to just recent comics if they're going off wiki summaries and scans anyway. And second, most fans AREN'T limited in their knowledge to just recent comics.

Like, the second people start writing Roy and Jason and Kori but with their pre-52 characterizations and references to events from THAT timeline, it all gets very messy, the way they're like, completely antagonistic towards Dick a lot of the time. Because Roy and Dick were always solid. Yes, they fought. A lot. But they always, ALWAYS made up afterwards. They had conflict about Roy's drug addiction - it didn't stop Dick from being there to support him through rehab, or Dick being the first person Roy called to help him get Lian after he learned of her existence. Dick literally held Lian before Roy ever did? He's the one who first put her in Roy's arms for the first time.

(Which is the prime grudge I and most Dick Grayson fans have about Roy and Jason fics which make Jason like, the absolute apple of Lian's eye. If you want to expand Lian's circle of loved and trusted ones to include Jason as Roy's friend and thus her uncle, like go for it! But there's zero reason that should require invalidating and erasing the fact that Dick was this little girl's adored godfather and uncle for pretty much her entire life. And the way Dick is just shoved offstage from Lian's life entirely, to slot Jason into his place as though they're completely interchangeable, its like....THAT'S the kind of thing that gets people irey about how Jason 'steals' Dick's dynamics and character relationships.

Because there's nothing saying they both can't be major players in Roy and Lian's lives! But just that they're not interchangeable! You need to develop the specific role Jason plays there WITHOUT just overwriting everything Dick actually did in relation to the two of them pre-Flashpoint, which is what you're drawing from the second you write Lian, unless you're specifically going with the few appearances we've had of her within literally just the last year.

But I mean, when people just search and replace Dick Grayson in all Roy and Lian's pre-Reboot stories and act like Jason was the one doing all of that instead.....why wouldn't fans of the source material be annoyed by a character getting credit for interactions and things done for Lian and Roy that Jason literally NEVER DID, while at the EXACT SAME TIME, conjuring some mysterious, unnamed 'Falling Out' that Roy and Dick had, that was clearly all Dick's fault, and resulted from him being basically excised entirely from Roy and Lian's lives?

Same with Kori, for the record, and like despite being Dick's ex, she and Dick have NEVER been like, estranged? She and Dick have often been close even after their breakup. None of it makes any sense, and the fact that a lot of fans don't even try to make it make sense or justify it, and expect other fans to just be fine with settling for an inexplicable reversal of Dick's every actual dynamic with these characters while setting up Jason to occupy the exact same role Dick played in these other characters' lives, like.....lol. Its fun.)

Anyway, back to your question, like, there are fights you can go with pre-Reboot as the source of various conflicts between Dick and Roy - but again, I maintain its just as crucial that they're always written as getting past them. They have a very tempestuous relationship because they are the two people MOST likely to call each other on their shit, two of the two people WITH the most shit in common due to the parallels in their childhoods and the roles they've occupied in the Titans and the superhero community in general, and the two people most resistant to being called out on their shit by each other, lol. Mostly in that case because like, they do recognize that they have a lot in common and understand each other very well, so the second the other is calling them out for something, they're usually like "ugh, if HE'S saying this, its probably true and I am just not prepared yet to be wrong about this. I need more time being unjustifiably rawr about things." Its like that thing where they both look at each other doing something that feels familiar or calls back to their own reasons for doing something and they're like ugh I'm in this picture and I don't like it.

So they clash. A lot. But always with the implicit bedrock of like, there's nothing either of them can do or say to the other that will push the other away for good.

They fought over Roy replacing Dick as leader of the Titans when Dick's wedding fell apart, even though Roy actually didn't want to do it and was kinda pushed into it by the government, but again, Dick like, got over it and realized it was for the best and forgave Roy for it that very same issue. And on and on. It always went like that. So there's plenty of stuff that can be used or pointed at as a source of conflict between the two, but the part I'll always call unbelievable is the idea that they never make up after one of these fights. Why now? What fight, specifically, is so bad between them that despite everything else they've gone through AND gotten past, they can't get past this one? Y'know?

So yeah, that's my take on this. There is no definitive falling out between Dick and Roy as many fics like to point to in order to shove him offscreen and make room for Jason in Roy and Lian's lives, and personally, I just don't find it necessary and I actually think it makes Roy look REALLY bad. Because when you're not specifically detailing all the things that Dick has actually DONE for Roy, the lengths to which he's been there for his friend, and like, specifically invalidating each and every one of them as something that never happened in a particular fic, then literally anyone who reads that fic and has their own awareness of Dick and Roy's friendship is kiiiiiinda likely to be reading that and thinking wow what an ungrateful asshole, when Roy's just written as bitching about Dick with Jason and sandbagging him without any real explanation as to WHY, beyond just 'oh they had a fight years ago.'

(And coming up with some random awful thing that Dick did to justify Roy hating him now isn't like, a superior alternative, lmao, because again, its still just trashing one character for the sake of getting him out of the way of two other characters' friendship and people are going to think what they think about that).

Anyway, my now standard stock disclaimer that like, there doesn't actually need to be a canon fight obviously, for people to just write things this way and handwave that Dick and Roy had an epic falling out years ago and now they just hate one another or whatever, or just Roy hates him or vice versa. Obviously people are free to do what they want. They don't need a reason other than "I want to write it this way so Jason and Roy are friends and Jason doesn't have to 'share' him with Dick or have his friendship be overshadowed by their greater history together." That just happens to be a reason that no Dick Grayson fan is ever really going to be happy about, lol, for what should be perfectly obvious reasons, so it honestly shouldn't be surprising to people that fans of the source material often gripe about it.

Because yeah fanfic is a tremendous opportunity to transform the source material into something better, but if what's better for some fans actively takes away what was working perfectly well for other fans the original way, they're going to say that. Especially in a fandom where so many new fans take their view of the characters and their dynamics from fics rather than the source material - when fandom has that much of an influence on what new fans perceive to be 'canon,' fans are perfectly within their right to emphasize what is ACTUALLY canon and what isn't, so that new fans at least have the opportunity to determine for themselves what take they want to go with, instead of just accepting at face value that the nature of say, Dick and Roy's relationship is just that Roy hates Dick because of some mumble mumble ancient history vague mumble details not found mumble mumble fight.

Do you have any batcest (or just darkfic involving any batfam member, doesn’t have to be batcest) recs that fit the same indulgent but not romanticized vibe of props? I hate reading darkfic where everything is perfect and romantic and there’s not even any hints that the victim (or sometimes perpetrator) knows it’s bad, it kinda defeats the purpose 😂

Obvs it’s different if the victim has been like trained to not think it’s wrong but like in those fics the author rarely pretends what’s happening is good

I know exactly what you mean! I make many exceptions for turn-your-brain-off smut, but if I'm really getting into a story, I need the darkfic to be dark. I gotta steer clear of the romantic stuff.

A lot of the reason props was written was that I couldn't find anything quite like what I was imagining, but I got some in the ~genre~ to cite. I'm sure I have forgotten loads of fics I loved (and anyone who wants to add on, feel free!), but some recs for you:

Vow - Probably the biggest inspiration for props. Unfortunately, it's almost certainly abandoned at this point (though if it was complete I might never have started writing).

Eating Away at What is Good - WIP, but likely to be returned to. Almost 200k. Not batcest, but Dick/Roman (Black Mask), with a lot of wonderfully painful coercion--and a thread I wasn't expecting that gives a really excellent examination of Bruce's canonical bad parenting.

Feel Like A Brand New Person - 32k. Tim gets really deep into his undercover personas, and Bruce takes advantage to sleep with him, and it's all just very messed up.

“I remember that day clearly, my last birthday with them. Father knows I hate large gatherings, yet he threw me a big party anyways. Everyone showed up. The Leaguers, the original Leaguers, the Titans, my friends and family.

I didn’t appreciate it back then. Now I can only look back and wish I could experience it once more. Wish I could see them once more, happy, together, not having to worry about an ongoing war.

I remember racing my cousins. I wish I hadn’t cheated in that race. Uncle Jon said Mother had used the same trick when they were kids. I practiced magic with Tiago and the Constantines. I remember Aunt Kori pulling me into an unbreakable hug. She had told me I’m growing to be just like my mother.

I used to look like her. Both with purple eyes and purple hair. My skin had more color. Now I look nothing like her. I no longer have her purple eyes, but green like Father’s, my hair has become a brighter shade of purple.

I miss them. Father gave me a silver dagger that day. He never lets me play with sharp objects, we only used wooden sticks when training. Mother gifted me with a spell book, it contained a vast collection of spells ranging from beginners to highly advanced. I lost both of them. The only things I have left of my parents, lost, gone forever. I long for them to return. My parents and their gifts.

I wish for all of them to return. Not just my parents but everyone. I wished this never happened, I wish the war never started. I wish I had been more grateful for all that they have done for me.”

“Do you remember the day they left you at that place? That place that was supposed to be remote, guarded, and free of any upcoming parademon attack?” he asked the young girl.

“How could I not? That was the day I lost them. That was the day they left.

Grandmother Talia greeted us at the harbor of Infinity Island. I didn’t know, back then, that it was the last time I'd see them. They told me I’ll be staying with Grandmother for a while, I didn’t think of asking how long. Then they hugged me. I missed that. I missed the way they’d cover me in their warm embrace. The way Father wraps his arm around both me and mother. I caught a shimmer of a tear from the corner of Mother's eyes. I felt their sadness. It was when I saw that tear slip, that I knew something was wrong. When I felt Father fighting to keep his posture, his stoic manner, that was when I knew I would be there for longer than ‘a while’. I wish I could’ve told them how much I loved them, I wished I could’ve given them one last hug,” she closed her eyes. “But I didn’t. He smiled. “Because Granddaughter, it is good to learn from the past, to take the pain and turn it into strength. Now, tell me of that day.”

“I-I remember running to the courtyard. There were screams coming from outside. An assassin crashed through the window, his legs were gone. I was...horrified, yet I kept going. I was stupid, thinking I could help. When I reached the courtyard, I saw corpses everywhere. Ripped up and severed. Grandmother and her elite archers were shooting down the creatures. My uncle calls them Paradooms. Parademons mixed with Kryptonian DNA. Grandmother’s supply of kryptonite-infused weapons was running low. I thought I was strong enough. I summoned beams of energy. I kept using magic until I had no energy left. I kept going. I should’ve stopped. I continued to fight. Picking up a stray sword with a kryptonite blade. It cut through plenty of monsters. Then Grandmother called my name. It was as if time slowed down. Her face contorted to horror, an emotion I have never seen her express. I felt a wave of emotions coming from her. Yet, nothing from myself. The pain was so bad, it felt like nothing. My vision had begun to blur when I noticed the sharp point of a claw emerging from my chest. I remember the paradoom falling as I laid on the ground. Grandmother rushed to my side. She told me not to worry. Then I came here. To this place you call home.”

“I never see this hellish realm as home. I am a conqueror of worlds, I focus on establishing and controlling new frontiers.”

“TT. We can agree that we have very different interests, Grandfather.”

“Indeed.”

“Now, I must ask. Why are you here? Why am I here? Why have you called upon me?”

“I am here to remind you. It takes a lot of energy to escape that prison in your mother’s head to visit you in your dream. This location is where your subconscious wants you to be, because deep down you know where to go. You know how to end this. You blame the Lazarus Pit for your loss of powers, but have you really lost your powers?” He gave her an amused smile, knowing the young girl was conflicted.

“Yes. No! I don’t know! I can still feel emotions, I can feel energy within me, but I can’t access it. I can’t perform a single spell, not even the simplest,” she confessed.

“The Pit is supposed to revive and strengthen the one of dips in it, that is if they are able to control the evil temptations of the Pit. You, Granddaughter, were already powerful. You still are. The Pit boosted your abilities, but you haven’t brought them back with you.”

“You’re saying...that I left my powers in Hell?” Rashida asked skeptically.

“What else could I be saying, dear?”

“What’s it in for you? Why are you helping me?”

“Because I would like to conquer Earth. I shall not let that weak, ‘New God’ destroy this planet before I do. Besides, I need a body to inhabit once I break free. Your mother won’t last, she is already weak.”

This got Rashida’s attention. “Then how do I get my powers back? How can I get to Hell without dying?”

“Hm. I’m sure that spellbook of yours would be useful. Once the proper ritual is performed, you should be able to enter and exit that realm.”

“But, I’ve lost it. The book was burned during the first paradoom attack.”

“You are the granddaughter of Trigon. The granddaughter of the first Batman, Bruce Wayne. The great granddaughter of Ra’s Al Ghul. The granddaughter of Talia Al Ghul. The daughter of Raven, the Queen of Hell. The daughter of Damian Al Ghul Wayne, the current Batman. You have a powerful heritage. I expect you to live up to your blood.” He gave her an expectant look. “And let’s not forget that family that took in your mother when you first came to Earth, the Kryptionians,” he added.

“Bart explained this to me the other day, something about a multiverse. The book is lost in this world. It no longer exists in this universe. However, there are many alternate universes, different worlds out there. If I’m able to locate the right one, I should be able to get that book”

Trigon smiled. “Correct, my dear. Now, time is running short. I suggest you make haste.”

Rashida looked up from her internal thoughts. “Wait, what do you mean by that?”

But it was too late. Her surroundings have begun to shift. Trigon had swirled into a translucent black shadow and disappeared through the cracks of the room. She no longer sat in the obsidian chair in the Underworld’s throne room. Instead Rashida sat up with a jolt in her uncle’s base. Her head was beaded with sweat. She left the little room, which she had claimed to be her sleeping quarter. Jason was still asleep in front of his computer. Judging by the position of the sun in the cloudy red sky, it was late in the morning.

Artemis looked up from her daily ritual of sword sharpening. “Good morning, kid.”

“Why did you let me sleep in?” asked Rashida.

“Last night was rough. I thought you needed the rest,” she glanced at Jason and Roy, who was still asleep on the worn down couch. Artemis held up a tin can. “Pineapples?”

Rashida accepted the fruit. “How did you get your hands on pineapples?”

Artemis shrugged. “Oh, you know. Quinn and her buddies were in the area.”

Rashida took a bite of the diced pineapples. “I have to say, I envy them. They get to do the cool stuff like infiltrating LexCorp. While, we’re stuck fighting off the parademons and thugs.”

“This’ll be over soon. And then, you can do the cool “infiltrating” stuff as well,” assured the Amazon.

For some reason BirdFlash gives me the look like nerds but are actually jocks vibe while JayRoy are the look like jocks but are actually nerds vibe. TimKon is the classical jock + nerd and since this came to my mind I can't unsee

At first sight, birdflash gives off STRONG nerd vibes. wally’s actually known throughout the school for his science achievements, trophies, and awards. you don’t stand a chance against him in the science fair, don’t even try. and dick went to a fancy rich prep school where he scored some of their highest grades. just because he doesn’t like school doesn’t mean he isn’t good at it. and whenever they see each other in civvies, wally’s chattering on about this experiment he’s doing for fun and it seems like dick actually understands what he’s talking about, not just nodding along. and with a single visit to wally’s school, he revolutionized the tech department with a few careless suggestions. but really, that’s just their individual interests. wally might like science, but his entire life is running. he trains and trains, both with and without the speedforce. along with being trapped in that thing for years, wally’s pretty sure the reason he’s the fastest speedster is because of his strict track and cross-country training. and no matter what the circumstances, dick’s always happiest when he’s in the air. he possesses a natural athleticism that leaves others in awe along with skills finely honed to perfection for years that very few others could even hope to achieve. the two of them are long and lean and strong, and are in complete control over their bodies. they play different sports for fun, give each other leg warmers, socks, and water bottles for holidays, and go on early morning runs. the two of them are sports culture to the max (i actually made a post about that here)

now jayroy give off just the jock vibe, maybe even running into punk territory. first of all, lets get this out of the way: BICEPS. two of the biggest pairs of guns you’ll ever see, i swear. roy’s got a cocky smirk and he wears threadbare tank tops with dumb slogans on them and he never takes that trucker hat off. he makes his way into the basketball game going on at the courts on the bad side of town with a laugh. he squares up his fists for a fight any time there’s a hint of action. his nose is crooked from all the times its been broken and reset. not to mention his tattoos. and yes, roy loves lian with his entire heart and cares for her with everything he has, but that doesn’t change the fact that he was a teenager. now jason, jason just looks the part. he’s huge, and built like a goddamn brick wall. those muscles gotta be used for something, right? he’s always wearing those fingerless gloves, but his knuckles are constantly bruised anyway. you stop and take a double take anytime you see him when his lip isn’t split. almost everyone’s seen him with a gun. but he also spends his free time reading literary classics. his bookshelf is crammed full of old paperbacks, with everything from Frankenstein to Wuthering Heights to Farenheight 459 to The Importance of Being Earnest. The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy is a guilty pleasure of his. And he’s not just flipping through them either. no, he reads them. poking plot holes and other criticisms faster than a bullet. character analyzations sharper than his jawline. a lecture about the problem with many contemporary and modern novels longer than his dick. yea, jason devours those novels, and can tell you about all of them. as for roy, he’s inventive. always tinkering, always fiddling with a piece of tech, always creating. whether it be a new set of trick arrows or a coffee machine that spits out poison darts of a toaster that has 56 settings or a goddamn bazooka. he loves building stuff with his own two hands, a messy bun on his head, grease on his face, goggles shoved over his eyes as whatever he’s making sparks to life in his hands, bested only by the strike of pure creative passion in his eyes. textbook definition mechanic and geek, and we love him for it.

timkon is definitely the classic jock + nerd pairing. the only problem is that they always switch which is which. kon drapes his spiked leather jacket over tim’s shoulders when he’s cold, and later on at football games, tim cheers kon on wearing kon’s varsity jacket. but tim dropped out of high school because he has “better things to do” while kon just genuinely enjoys learning about stuff. kon does need help with his homework, so he calls tim, who always gives kon the math formulas he forgot the empirical formula of a compund that he doesn’t feel like calculating while simulaneously working on a couple other cases (he bounces his theories for a certain homicide off kon). but half of tim’s closet is made of sports jerseys for his favourite teams that he wears completely unironically even though they practically dwarf him, and he drags kon to all of their games while cheering and hollering, screaming at the tv when he can’t be there live,,,,and it’s not just one sport,,,,,nooo he’s got a good many he’s completely emotionally invested in. tim steals kon’s shirts so often that he just starts giving them to him, and dear god there’s almost nothing kon loves more than seeing tim wearing his clothes, looking tiny and misleadingly delicate and his. but tim carries around a skateboard and uses it practically 24/7, and one afternoon was spent teaching kon how to use the thing, including lots of laughing and falling over and steadying hands on waists, before a break at an ice cream parlour was followed by a sugary kiss. so yea, timkon is jock + nerd culture, with both of them being the jock and the nerd (also sorry anon i know you were thinking of kon being the jock and tim being the nerd, and honestly that’s how i usually view it too, its just this particular idea popped into my head and i had to write it) (also for timkon, i usually go for skate culture, and my hc for that is here)
