Tim Drake would love video games sm tho, and I do not see that represented enough.

He'd be a total nerd about it to. He'd rant and rant and rant about all the games he's played and all the cheats and the secret cut scenes and the hidden lore. He'd be a game theorist for sure, probably has a YouTube account dedicated to it since he's such a little detective. He knows the true lore of FNaF.

He'd definitely speed run minecraft, rp to probably. First person shooter? How about first hand experience. FNaF fanatic oh my God he'd LOVE that game so fucking much. Absolutely a Sonic kid, like you cannot convince me otherwise. Mario less so but you knows hes probably played every single game anyways. Pokemon? Every single one memorized down to their exact coloration. Stardew valley? Do i even have to ask. Animal crossing? Perfected his village, villagers and all. Zelda? I cannot prove it but he has a lino Cosplay somewhere and he's worn it for under cover missions. He'd slay in DTI, have like 5 different mansions in Bloxburg, defiantly played Royal High until the capitalism became to close to the real world, probably has hundreds of avatars to. An expert at games like fnf has played half the mods to ever be made for that game. He's been playing fortnite since it's release. He'd have one of the top scores ever in subway surfers. He'd download those "complete your restaurant" type games and finish them in two weeks and it'd only take that long because the game forces him to wait sometimes. Candy crush is his bitch 100%. He'd download mobile games and finish them in a day and then keep redoing them till he's perfected his method. He has played and replayed countless driving based games, can learn almost any new one in 6 minutes. Going back to the speed run thing I think he'd just enjoy speed running games in general, and gridning. He'd love minecraft so much omg-. Last of us? Played. Iron Lung? Played. Cuphead? Played. Detroit Become Human? Played. Kindergarten? Played. Sallyface? Played. Splatoon? Played. He'd love small games to I just am not that into video games to know any to list- :').

I mean think about it. Going off the "Tim's parents are never home" version of him, he'd have so much time to just sit around and play video games. He has the money to buy them and the time to spend getting ungodly good at them. He'd have amazing equipment, and it'd give him some sort of community even if he doesn't really interact with it personally. Like if he's not out stalking Batman or at school, he's playing a video game. Even after he starts working for Batman, he'd overwork himself to the bone and he'd STILL find a way to go pro gamer in-between. Probably for like 0.5 seconds whenever he's got to stand up to get himself another energy drink.

Like please, video game nerd Tim Drake on my knees begging you add this to your stories and headcanons. Have him introduce other batfam members to video games. HAVE HIM INTRODCUE BRUCE TO CANDY CRUSH AND MAKE THEM GET INTO A COMPETITION ON WHO CAN GET TO A HIGHER LEVEL FASTER. He shows Damian animal crossing. He gives Jason a gaming console and like 50 different shooter games and one copy of stardew valley as a joke and did not expect Jason to get so into it. Him Cass and Steph would love those Roblox horror games. He'd force the whole family to start having game nights and they'd have a world on Minecraft that has the most insane lore you've ever heard. Nicole Ref(Lost Prince AU)

Nicole is another person I don't know much of but found interesting.(I went to look her up a little) Oddly enough I knew even less about her than Sally. There were snippets Sally I didn't realize were there cause I had no idea who Sally was but Nicole had nothing. I learned about Nicole around the time I learned about Sally(maybe a bit later, forgot when I learned about them), Nicole is kind of interesting but the thing that confused me was learning she's a cat not a jackal.(I'm stupid & didn't think about looking up lynx before, also she also looks kind of like a black back jackal)

Unlike with the Sally ref this one can stay & I just need to adjust some text.

I swapped the outfits around because I like the wrapped up dress look so I had president day Nicole wear it.(This is under the impression I'll show her more or something, I dunno how anything is going to go) The ??? version is heavily inspired by fan art I saw of a child version of Nicole, I then went on to dress her slightly in an outfit similar to the kindergarten uniform from Clanned. I dunno if I want to scrap ??? or not, I torture these characters enough as it is.(Especially Sonic & technically Shadow due to some stuff involving Sonic)

Nicole is a digital entity that is a of friend/the assistant of Sally, she started out as a handheld computer with a living AI but has since been able to transfer herself to different devices if needed especially should her computer be destroyed. She started off emotionless but caring for her team but over time thanks to getting to see what it was like to have a body for a while & help from Sonic she's been working on having her own personality & doesn't like thinking of her more robotic personality.

Technically she's the one of the only remaining people from older Sally's group that remembers the war on Christmas Island & if given the ability to could help the younger Sally find her grandmother's missing friend.

40 years ago with older Sally:

Nicole started off as a computer given to Sally after she was found by some people working for her father while looking through a since abandoned lab. Nicole would help Sally with things & eventually assisted her & others when Sally went to help the queen of a kingdom of Christmas Island as a representative of her family as Robotnik's war was starting to spread to other areas of Mobius pretty fast. At some point while helping Sally's group & the triplets she got to know what being alive felt like & tried to make her own personality.

She's a caring & curious person but also nervous about her new self & new things that come with emotions.(I apparently lost my train of thought) She still has some kinks to work out from going from emotionless living AI to sentient but that's life some times.(I forgot what I'm getting at, wtf was this description?)

Modern day with younger Sally:

Nicole has come to find her own style & isn't as worried about herself much any more, she does however now know what it's like to lose people especially to old age She's out lived most of her friends even the princess that this all started with.

Nicole went on to help out & become friends with Sally's granddaughter of the same name. While Nicole has made new friends & re-met old ones(that were in stasis) she thought she'd never see again but still wonders what happened to the one Sally's family still seems curious about.

Nicole helps younger Sally & her father try to find said friend as best she can. While she has info that could help she doesn't know his whereabouts & even then she, Sally & friends/teammates have noticed someone like them around the kingdom that makes them wonder if he's possibly said person's descendant. Either way they now have some questions they want to ask(though never get a chance to fully ask) & have interacted some.

On the bright side Nicole has found a guy with yellow/gold stripes that she can spend the rest of her ageless life with.

The sonic movie improved and became 100+ million dollar hit! In fact, the film got 100+ viewers and made even more money in it's sequel!

While Vivziepop is slowly losing large sums of money because she lets her fans harass people over SIMPLE criticism. Same for her accociated that do the same. -and though the softcore porn will still bring in viewers temporarily, eventually they get bored of it due to the badly written plot and lack of plot direction and world building... and move onto Pornhub. In 9 days, the last episode had over 13 million, while for this episode, it has only 8 million and got only 1 million in a 6+ hours while episode 3 got FIVE MILLION in about six hours!

While anyone who just wanted a plot moves on immediatly after seeing just ONE episode, which is why HB has been losing over 9 mil viewers since day ONE! It’s just now noticeable because season two is causing them to lose viewers even FASTER and the losses have now added up a TON! Over 30 mil!, so you know what harassing people over basic feedback does? It makes you lose respect-

So you either be a decent human to your fans, or you lose a dime!

Welcome to my AU Sonic character page. Here I will give you some informations about the Sonic of my AU. He's part of the fanfictions "The power inside me" and "I thought you were my friend?" available on Wattpad, AO3 and Fanfiction.net.

☆Infos☆

Sonic is the eldest son of his parents Aleena and Julian, born on June 23rd 2005 (though the year is only relevant for my fanfictions, but I added it anyway :3), although the age I always invision him in in my artworks is 15.

Just like his canon version he was born with the ability to run at the speed of sound, hence his name "Sonic". This ability was brought to him through mutation of chaos energy and he's able to control it fully by now.

When Sonic was seven years old his parents adopted a two-tailed fox named Miles, who the blue hedgehog nicknamed Tails and has been inseparable with ever since.

He's an extremely extroverted adventurous daredevil, much to the dismay of his dear friends who have to put up with his stupid ideas and have to keep getting him out of trouble.

Since he's the fastest thing alive he's very impatient and bouncy, making it hard for him to stay in one place for too long (he's a pain at school, lmao). Besides that he's also pretty stubborn, acts before thinking and can get jealous easily.

Sonic found interest in the more basic hobbies such as playing videogames, going on runs and exploring the world. He has visited many places before (even with his friends and family by his side) and taken pictures of his favorite places, which he hung up on his bedroom wall and even filled up a photo album with.

Some extras:

•Not only does Sonic run fast, but he also speaks fast, making it sometimes hard for others to understand him properly, especially when he gets excited.

•Shadow is his childhood friend, who he met in Kindergarten.

•His favorite color is red, but he also likes yellow.

•He's fan of a game series called "Freedom Fighters", which are basically action-adventure with the controls of a Sonic game (so you could say the Freedom Fighter games are the sonic series in my AU)!

obviously lena is the #1 hater, but also the captain of dylan/camden and has been since day 1. no one teases dylan harder than alena. no one.

ngl, i see dylan constantly laying her head in lena's lap and lena often braids her hair or strokes her hair, and in the scenarios where lena is not braiding her hair the tv is on and dylan faces it and lena's legs are crossed, reading a book, mindlessly running her hand through lena's hair dylan is a hetero, remember this bc we all sure don't!

lena and dylan definitely have a communication code through lights, bc in my mind their windows face one another. also, lena used to always climb a tree to dylan's window, esp when c*ntleen was on the rampage.

skye/lou

skye is the little spoon - we know who runs shit in this relationship, but sometimes, skye makes lou Relax™️. not often, bc again, we know what's up. but skye def takes care of her lady mentally and physically.

obvious skye and lou are neon queen and goth girl, but have we considered them as golden retriever gf and super sonic bat gf. also, both def shop at hot topic. for different things, bc i see lou in ripped band tees and old school trips and biker boots, and skye's in the anime print dresses and sailor moon socks. but them shopping there together, end me.

skye does have many playlists about lou/her and lou. it sounds weird, it is weird, jer has made fun of her for this, but lou would beat his ass if he knew this was mocked. skye can't help it, her love language is music and playlists (idc if that's a real love language or not goddamnit!) i feel like their song is sweater weather from the neighborhood. there's no real reason, and i will not elaborate, it just feels right?

they'd get married in vegas, or something along the lines of vegas and you can fight me on that.

skye truly didn't believe lou liked her back, or in general. she thought jer was being an uncharacteristic prick. however, jer definitely teased lou about liking skye daily.

steph/arizona

i lowkey know az made the first move. steph is kind of shy (read: wishy-washy) about romance, like it's all in her head like lara jean, and she didn't really get az, this cool qb football girl, liked her, the rainbow glitter queen. and when az made the move, steph was very very surprised. also, she was happy and probably had tears because of how happy she was and definitely hugged her and az probably kissed her.

they always need to be touching in someway. they cuddle a lot. i feel like az's head is always in steph's lap, or az's arms are wrapped around steph, or hands casually on legs and arms. like tbh, not everyone has that vibe of being half when apart, but steph and az are definitely whole together. they complete one another. this is the hill i die on.

their song is boats and birds. anyways, i feel like steph has played it on the guitar for az once in private, because it's for az and az alone. also, they have a playlist one made by steph, one made by skye, and then a fake one made by jer that's ridiculous. you know they play jer's often. sorry skye!

they do eventually get a matching tattoo. i see them getting several, but they'd definitely have at least one eventually.

i'm pretty sure az tried to teach steph football and steph almost broke her nose so they never did that again. and steph tried to teach az cheerleading, but it was hard so the compromise is bring it on and steph attending football games with az and cheering at right moments. it's about the Compromise™️

angelica/kelsey

angelica kisses kelsey first. i know angelica makes a lot of moves first because angelica goes after what she wants, but i feel like there's no set up. no romantic lake side picnic or party, they're just together and bam! angelica kisses her and is like "i like you." very bluntly as she does.

kelsey helps babysit lakelynn, but she cannot dance and angelica has taught lakelynn to mock her. poor kelsey. anyways! lakelynn definitely thinks they're married when she can talk and shit, and has called them her moms. it makes for a fun conversation on the subway and coffee shops.

their first date was pancakes, but their first trip was to alaska in the summer and kelsey taught angelica how to fish and prepare for the winter. also, i see them kayaking a lot that summer and swimming in the water (if they can) and kissing in the water, on the kayaks, sunset kisses - all that jazz. overall: it's about the alaskan romance.

i think kelsey is the cook. for all her bravado, angelica is helpless in a kitchen and i think kelsey's mom bucks her into shape. she still can't cook, but at the end of the summer can cook, like, eggs and stuff.

vanessa definitely read kelsey the riot act and kelsey was probably scared vanessa hated her and angelica laughed, because vanessa hates no one? also, imagine their next trip was to seattle and visiting vanessa and making pottery and having a we are okay moment, but without the sadness? wow. bliss!

keira/lindsay

keira made the first move post lindsay kissing her. lindsay feels like an idiot for what she did, and she's confused and conflicted. but beyond that, keira is her best friend. lindsay can be herself with keira and she feels like she's ruined that.

2. lindsay feels safe being vulnerable with keira. lindsay is always on her guard, because tears is weakness, and pain is weakness, but with keira she can show her pain and exhaustion, she can cry and be silly and goofy - keira's the only one who sees all of lindsay.

3. i see them watching guilty pleasure shit together, like riverdale and bad movies. i see them making big batches of popcorn, chilling on the couch and booing at these things, and hating them, but they can't stop. it's tradition at this point.

4. they became friends because of jess. point blank periodt. so anyways, i think from day one, jess saw lindsay as someone her twin would love and immediately introduced them that day at lunch, and is gonna do a backflip when she finds out they kissed. this isn't about them, but it is: jess CONSTANTLY gossips about their relationship (ie bitching that they don't date/date the wrong people who aren't each other, or men if speaking of lindsay) to bellamy. these two girls are very invested on the ship and happiness of keira and lindsay.

5. keira and lindsay have roadtripped to vegas. when they were both twenty-one, they roadtripped and drank the night away and gambled and saw shows, but they also have roadtripped up and down the cali coast and have gone to baja ala sisterhood of the traveling pants. fight me.

again, these two bitches were each other's first kiss, but theirs i see as a thomas j and vada type of kiss (the diving into the water to avoid bees and all)

marnie bawled through her vows. like i think delilah had to read them while marnie covered her eyes and bawled away. meanwhile, i think marnie, at the wedding, wore a pants suit at the reception and an align cut or mermaid at the wedding because she wanted to be a princess.

marnie and delilah do meddle in their siblings lives. like marnie wants sienna and lucas together so bad she could throw up - even more so than aria and xander. lbr, marnie and delilah are more invested in sienna and lucas, but still, marnie doesn't want xander single.

while marnie makes delilah come out of her shell because she's goofy and everything, delilah makes marnie calm down and grow up a bit. marnie needs to slow down and think and plan and budget, but she cannot alone. delilah is lowkey her other half. without delilah, marnie would feel as if she lost a limb or worse.

keily sometimes doesn't trust maren. some backstory: keily did have a crush on maren in school, and i think they've known one another since grade school and i think she was one of keily's first crushes, but because of the class difference and who maren associates with, it makes keily guarded. and then she began dating leo, so she chiseled at her wall, but at the end of the day as we currently stand, keily hasn't lowered her guard and is prepared for maren to always hurt and betray her.

the day maren showed up and helped keily/the washingtons at the restaurant was the day keily dropped her guard entirely, despite what jesse felt like. it was the moment she felt respected and not judged by this rich girl, and ngl, i also think it was the day keily decided she loved her.

keily kisses maren first. and i feel like they kiss on leo’s boat - that they obviously stole. and i feel like it’s also sunset, because why not make it romance?

i feel like keily teaches maren how to fish on leo’s stolen boat because the kiss. and i also feel like keily teaches maren a lot of basic things, like shucking shellfish, cleaning shrimp and fish, climbing trees, driving boats - just things a rich white girl wouldn’t do on her own.

no one would believe how they are behind closed doors. joel is mr suave, the guy all the girls want, and nadia comes off as prim and proper, and most would assume she's a stuck up priss, but the shit they get up to is unmatched.

i feel like the whole reason that they happened is joel and andrew and the other boys were throwing a football or a frisbee and it landed near her, as she was reading, and he runs over and begins to instantly flirt with her and she covered a hand over her eyes and eyed him and thought "he's p hot" and let him waffle on and then she saw him running on the beach one morning because she was paddle boarding and they began talking and have very little in common, but it's a summer fling so why not? and here they are today.

i feel like they’re constantly laying on hammocks. idk why, joel feels like a man who loves a hammock and is constantly pulling nadia into one with him.

when in bed, and nadia is trying to read and joel’s trying to tease her, she often reads what she’s reading aloud to tease him. at first, she probably did this to kill the mood and realized, with a lot of delight, that he enjoyed these shenanigans. 

i feel like joel sings a lot of backstreet boys at her. mostly because of to all the boys, but i see him singing i want it that way to her a lot. and mostly when she’s either reading or cooking, and into hairbrushes or spoons, and she swats at him but always ends up in a heavy make out session or worse. 

jade/hadley

so i feel like they met the first week of college, rushing kat. like i see hadley there in her glitter makeup and green jacket and jade’s heart skipped a beat and she went over, and the rest was history. also, i imagine hadley basically living at jade’s place their freshman year and they made out a lot. 

hadley definitely gets the anna delvy treatment, because jade is like i live in the land of luxury so if you’re my bestie you do get to ride in private jets and get spa treatments and nice gifts because i’m doing all this shit, and i don’t want to do it alone. i feel like they do fight about this, but in jade’s mind, hadley’s basically her wife at this point. so i mean ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ what can you do?

jade sketches hadley, and often. now she’s not the best, but i feel like it’s compulsive at this point to sketch hadley - and not just her face, like sometimes her hand, or the way her legs are. 

in my mind, their aesthetic is that scenery in ikwydls, at the house party because that’s jade’s house in my mind, and they’re on steps looking out at the sea in the dark and there’s hundreds of stars and the smell of a fire and they’re covered in glitter. no matter the setting, that’s them.

tally/iris

tally truly lets her guard down around iris. i feel like iris is someone she protects, but it’s different. with nate, she feels lowkey like she owes him and that he’s vulnerable because of janie, but with iris she doesn’t have to worry about her in these ways. tally can just be herself, relax, cry, be open and vulnerable and admit that she doesn’t have all the answers, that cases are too hard and too complex for her.

tally always makes iris tea when she has nightmares about her sisters, and this tea comes with a back rub and staying up well past iris falling asleep, rubbing her back, to make sure no more nightmares happen.

iris is the only one who knows tally cries about what her parents did to her. i feel like she never cried when they threw her out, didn’t even cry privately when she lived at nate’s, but she has cried about it to iris.

i feel like iris got tally their dog, backup. like obviously these bitches need a guard dog, but imagine iris knowing tally needed something to love unconditionally and bought him i die.

The last time you washed your hair, did you use conditioner? Yeah, I’m pretty paranoid and always feel the need to use conditioner because of a bad rebonding job from like a decade ago that stiffened up my hair as soon as it would get wet. It lasted for around a year, so I formed the habit of always using conditioner every time I shower. I don’t think I’ve ever used just shampoo since then.

Do you prefer light or dark jeans?  Dark, but I suppose it would be nice to start experimenting with lighter shades as well.

When you listen to music, do you generally sing along, or just listen?  It depends if I know the lyrics or I’m feeling the song at the moment. Obviously with my new obsession with BTS I can’t really sing along to entire songs, but I do sing the few English lyrics they have per song, hahaha.

Do you have any of your exes as friends on Facebook?  Yeah but she’s been muted for like half a year already, as is the rest of her family. I do have plans to unfriend her entirely; I’m just not sure when I would push through with it, and I already gave Angela permission to log onto my account one of these days to be the one to do the unfriending.

Who was your first love? Do you ever miss that person?  Gabie. I miss the friendship sometimes; I don’t think I’ll have a friendship as deep and connected as the one we had, so I will always feel sorry about how that went to waste. What do you find particularly offensive? Would you say you’re easy or difficult to offend?  Probably Filipino-American comedians or influencers who use stereotyping of Filipino accents and habits as a punchline; they do more harm to the culture than good. I can tell you not one Filipino who lives in the Philippines actually finds those funny, and Bretman Rock is probably the only personality who’s able to flaunt the culture in an entertaining and hilarious yet classy way.

When it comes to being offended, I guess it depends on the context. My humor can get pretty dark and low-blowy, but I would have a problem with someone who I know has genuinely problematic views.

What was the last series you finished watching? Do you have any plans to begin another?  I think it may had still been Start-Up from last December. I’m not too big on Korean dramas since I find one episode waaaaaaayyyyyyy too long. I don’t think I’ll be starting on anything soon, Korean or otherwise.

What is one way in which you are different from a year ago? What is one way in which you are still the same?  I’m single now, for the first time in technically six years. I also think I’m doing better and happier, breakup notwithstanding. OH and I love wasabi now, hahah. If you could learn about anything without the stress of grades or cost, what kind of classes would you take?  I’d just go back to UP for the free tuition. We also have the widest range of programs out of any university in the country, so it’s a damn good deal.

Which aspect of your daily routine takes the most time? What do you do?  Work, for sure. I work a normal 9–6 so that’s already 8 hours out of my day, but I also OT a lot after hours, and I work throughout my lunch break as well so that technically makes it 9 hours. I also like getting up earlier and starting some work before my shift so that I would have less tasks on my plate for the day.

Do you enjoy buying gifts for others, or could you do without this?  I LOVE getting people gifts. Food is especially my love language, and I always get food delivery for my friends, family, and my team at work.

How do you tend to view driving? Monotonous or entertaining?  I love driving. I don’t think I ever complained about having to do it. It’s calming and relaxing when I’m doing it alone or with a partner; and it can be entertaining with the right set of people.

When was the last time you shaved your legs? Not since last October. Nobody sees my legs, so I just don't care. Do you ever try free samples at the store? WE DON’T DO THAT HERE.

I just disclosed to all of my co-workers that I have a radio show. They all seem very enthusiastic and extremely positive about it. For that I am very lucky because every day I work with them they usually have nothing good to say. They are the 17 to 25 crowd running on alcoholic fumes, weekend bars, Androids, Yankee games, hanging with “the guys”, and typical basic girls. So it comes as no surprise as to what their mentality is.

When I say they’re enthusiastic, I mean that they light up. They light up with an obvious hard-on because at first they think I’m on a big-name radio station and I play the hottest in Top 40 and pop. “It’s not like that. I dee-jay for a college station” I tell them. But that’s OK. They still think it’s awesome that I play music over the air and emanate their rooms, car stereos, and laptops. Then come the same questions I get asked every week because either someone new discovers what I do or they easily forget and we needlessly re-start the same conversation all over again. Or they’re trolling.

“What time do you go on?” “What music do you play?” “Are you on every week?” “Where is the radio station you DJ at?” “Do you go on the mic and talk?” “How long are you on for?” “Do you take requests?” “Do you do shout-outs?” These are valueless questions I normally don’t answer to because I can’t be bothered with them; questions asked in an obvious kindergarten fascination that I rather not waste my time with and would rather move on without having to focus on such intellectual mediocrity. In fact, the answers to all of these questions can be answered by simply listening to my show. There.

One of my co-workers decides he wants to be funny and impress his friends. He asks me if I ever do my “radio” voice on the air, and then proceeds give it his best attempt at it:

“This…is…Dee Jay _______…on 107.5…FM…WQXZ, New York! Playing…the…hottest hits. Ten. In a row. Non-stop!”

Heads up to no one in particular: it’s nice for people and friends to approach me and be interested in what I do, and I appreciate it. I really do. And then there are those who are into it but then proceed to define me by impersonating their best stereotypical zesty action-packed radio voice, complete with man-made astro-blaster laser sound effects from an action-figure maturity.

Please stop. It’s not funny, you’re not funny, and no one is laughing. That’s not what happens on my show. All I do is play music and be myself as usual. That’s all. It’s not WBLI, Z100, or Now FM if that’s what you were thinking. And since it’s not right to try and define who you think I am to satisfy your piss-poor expectations, I’m sure you wouldn’t like it if I defined your life by pointing out your poor choice of clothing, your lack of real understanding, your never-ending stupidity, why your parents still make your bed, or why you have been dateless all your life.

Another pointless obstacle course I had to go through was that another co-worker tried guessing what music I play on my show in the form of a yes-or-no question-and-answer session. My previous answer of “a lot of music you wouldn’t like or tolerate” and “anything that’s not mainstream” wasn’t good enough for him to comprehend to avoid this altogether. So our little elfin pretend game-show host, who is 23 but looks like he is 11, plays this game with me.

“Now, I’m going to tell you an artist or band name and you tell me if you would play it. Ready?”

“Sure.” I say with some hesitation and an exasperated breath, knowing exactly how this is going to go. Lord help me.

“Metallica.”

“No.”

“Bon Jovi.”

“No.”

“Kid Cudi?”

“No.”

“Whitney Houston?”

“No.”

“Justin Beiber?”

“No.”

“Ozzy?”

“No.”

“Taylor Swift?”

“No.”

“Adele?”

“No.”

“Drake?”

“No.”

“David Bowie?”

“Hmmm…”

“Ahhh! There’s a maybe! “Linkin Park?”

“Stop.”

This was what I went through a couple of days ago. He was fully aware what I play on-air not only because I told him before but also I sent him the link to my show. But when you’re the department comedian, you need to depend on your co-workers for everyone’s amusement. So you blow right through convenience and force uncomfortable interactions for laughs at someone’s expense. He instead ended up giving me a list of artists I wouldn’t dare touch or even infect our studio’s CD drives, turntables, or computers with. And he knows this.

My show states what I play: “punk, hardcore, female, grrl, electronics, hip-hop, hipster, trendy, art, industrial, breakbeats, experimental, techno, spoken word, rare Seventies, drum and bass, reggae, lo-fi, and even noise”. It also says “no Top 40, no Billboard, no pop, no American Idol, no Nielsen Ratings, no Clear Channel.” Why would I waste my time playing artists that are already being played ad nauseum on pop stations, car commercials, malls, restaurants, movies, and soda ads millions of times over? And why would I have to explain myself to people who clearly don’t deserve it?

It’s simple. On my show I play everything other stations and outlets won’t. Being it’s a college radio station, we don’t get money from corporate sponsors but instead grass-roots community members, students, administration, and other people listening in around the world to donate money to us. That means we are not told what to play, rather we play whatever we want, artists who otherwise have almost zero chance of getting airplay. I can actually educate my listeners by playing Merzbow, Einsturzende Neubauten, Sonic Youth, or Aphex Twin instead of brainwashing them. So, why would I waste valuable airtime on artists who already have endless amounts of it?

Another thing: requests. I don’t ask for them and I won’t play them. Why would I jeopardize the show’s good looks if someone asks me to play Nickelback when I play music like Crystal Castles, Cold Cave, The Dead Boys, and Death Grips? Where does some sappy commercial band that millions of people have on their death list have its place on my show? I want my listeners to enjoy my show and support me, not blacklist it and send me death threats.

Even more ridiculous are the dedications. Please. I prevent this from happening. I don’t want my show responsible for some trailer-park love-in somewhere in Alabama which produces five awkward results. Having me to say their subtle Valentine’s messages on-air with “cute” pet names is not cute at all. It makes my show turn into the Ryan Seacrest Hour. When that happens, I’ll fold this show and deny it ever existed.

Yes, I do understand that artists eat and need to keep on going to make a living. Once in a while I get unsolicited messages from bands that have absolutely nothing to do with the music I play. Just pass “GO” and collect your $200. Just because I play “everything” doesn’t mean I will since there are specifics. Even worse, a Dave Matthews’ cover band somewhere in the middle of Long Island, that aspires to be something else they’ll never be and tries to ride (no, suck it like a leach) the wave of popularity by holding actual music instruments while being incapable of writing original material will never make the cut. On another note…

“Check us out! We’re a four-piece homegrown funk-soul-band from somewhere in New Jersey and we’ve been compared to 311 and Smashmouth…”

...and that is where I hit the delete button. I don’t like it when music comes to me, I like it when I come to music unless I ask for it. I don’t like to feel obligated in having to play your music or worse having it forced down my throat Linda Lovelace-style. I don’t want your obsolete already-done jam-funk music and double that if it’s from the late 90’s (because who here thinks the late 90’s was the worst time for new music ever?) I don’t ever want your low-resolution color-copy pixilated artwork with your homemade CD-R with paper decal. In fact, why am I still on MySpace? That was so 2006.

It’s been a month since the start of my on-going show and my co-workers are getting very tiresome. The same questions over and over again and not once has anyone tuned in. Not that I don’t want them to tune in or even care if they listen, but what’s the point in wasting time if people who are interested in something don’t do it? That’s why I decided to no longer talk to them about my show. I’m only wasting my breath, time, and energy. You can’t declare to do something and not do it. That’s how people take points away from you.

And as always, the instant I declare that I will no longer bother in discussing my show anymore, another moron standing right next to me starts asking questions again. “What is your show called?” “What time is it on?” “What number is it?” Perhaps it is best not to have certain people listening in. Even better, it’s best not to converse with them.

Anime / Manga !

i love anime and manga. ive grown up with it ever since i was around 5. i would stay up on saturday nights till 7 am when inuyasha would start playing on adult swim. if i was ever too tired i would record the episode on our dvr and would watch it after getting home from kindergarten. crazy age to watch inuyasha but i always found it so cool.

also grew up on naruto. i am such a naruto nerd i have rewatched the og and shippuden so many times i can tell people which episode events happened, i can sing the openings in order, i can name most characters, etc. the naruto brainrot is bad. same thing with bleach and dragonball z. the new bleach has me so hyped i loved watching every episode made me want to rewatch the main series but i have no time so i just watch small clips here and there.

i love just about every genre of anime tbh. sports animes (baki, hajime no ippo, kengan asura, one outs, eyeshield 21, etc). idol animes (idolish 7, tsukiuta, tsukipro, etc). shounen, mystery, shoujo, literally everything. i have to be in a certain mood to watch mech animes but whenever one comes out that catches my eye i put all my energy into watching it. i think the only genre i dont enjoy much is isekai, i used to like them but new ones come out too often i cant keep up.

Cars !

my day to day guilty pleasure is cars. i love cars. they are cool, go fast, go stutututu, whine, be loud, have cool lights, i love everything about a good car.

i have a brz! bought it myself and it is my pride adn joy. it is one of my favorite cars and when i bought it in november i literally cried. I drive manual and its so fun to me! i want to learn how to drift but im a bit nervous because i dont want to accidentally mess up anything in my car.

Reading !

i love books i love reading. i love fiction, sci-fi, philosophy, nonfiction, fanfiction, everything. I was never into books like harry potter and anything with too many magical elements in them but always loved horror and more mystery thriller books.

i have been dying to buy more physical books to add to my mini library in my room but theres a few books on my backlog i need to complete before i do that.

i also have a slowly growing manga collection that i desperately need to add to.

i read all day all night on my phone but the feeling of flipping real pages is so satisfying and having the weight of a book in my bag is just so nice.

Music !

not to toot my own horn but my spotify wrapped minutes is always 140k+. i listen to music all day everyday. while doing homework, reading, driving, working, in class (pay attention dont be like me), watching stuff it doesnt matter. i have a terrible habit of getting bored of something very easily so i always multitask and need 20 things happening at the same time so music is amazing at keeping me focused.

i love 'underground archive', rnb, krnb, jpop, citypop, lofi, rap, edm, literally a whole lot of stuff. i dont like pop that much ive grown to realize same with country, i can listen to it but only if someone else wants to.

Sonic Frontiers - Impressions

I follow a certain someone on here who's known in the Sonic fandom for being, well, rather passionate about Doctor Eggman. Watching their reaction, their bigger takeaway seemed to amount to not caring about the environment, the core gameplay loop or the base concept of Frontiers, so long as Mike Pollock gets to land Big Evil Laughs and so long as Sonic Team adds the right amount of belly-jiggle physics to the big lug. I don't really believe there is such a thing as a wrong interpretation of a given product, but, well - I'm fucking biased. One of my friends since my teens has worked for EA and Ubisoft as a Lead Animator, and I've been lucky enough to get a fairly good look into what turns a basic, bare-bones dev document into a working and suitably-polished experience you'd consider market-ready.

Non-gamers tend to consider that designing a game somehow has to be easy; that all you need is a goal, a direction, a prompt that says Tilt Stick to Move and you're basically good to go. If you're familiar with the work of insider journalists like Tom Bissell or kept up with Danny O'Dwyer's Noclip Studios, then you know that even in their garage-band years, most studios can slave away at a core design doc for months before so much as rendering anything. Concepts are tested, working components are crudely assembled to see if you really can "find the fun" in there, and you slowly watch as a coherent project emerges. I'm reminded of Myst, for instance, and its dozens of abortive extrusion tests and early rendering passes designed just so the Millers would have the vaguest idea of their landmass' ideal topography.

Sonic Frontiers, in comparison, feels like Sonic Team once again missed the hoop, but had the balls to turn to the camera mid-swing, to lob a fairly cringeworthy "swoosh!" joke in front of an audience of millions. Their designers rightfully identified one of Sonic's primary design pillars - going fast - figured out what would best accomodate said need for speed - open spaces - and then shat the bed in trying to discern just what, exactly, these open spaces could be filled with.

Let's just set a primary point, first: not every game needs to have diegetic elements. I know that, you know that, every gamer knows that. Eggman's pie-in-the-sky tech just works, like a Bethesda Softworks engine, and you're not expected or even asked to figure out what it is that Eggman gets out of isolating Sonic, when he's tried for a similar tactic several times before. Still, despite all this, Frontiers is the exact sort of game where everything you do would make so much more sense if things were properly anchored in the narrative - starting with the main levels' ridiculous size and depth.

There is obviously some sort of plot - Eggers trapping Sonic's buds in Cyberspace (don't ask) and the Blue Blur needing McGuffins to free them; but the exposition tends to come at the worst of times, as has always been the problem with 3D Sonic games. Sound mixing has improved since the days of Sonic Boom, but there's still a few cutscenes where subtitles are an absolute necessity. It doesn't really help to establish the mostly sparse plot, and really doesn't flatter the core design.

So what is said design, exactly? Imagine a cross between The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey, but lacking in both games' unique points of articulation. BOTW had several "stroke of genius" moments where you're effectively left to reconsider your tools and the level design that surrounds you, and to organically come up with the solution to an overarching problem. Odyssey starts out extremely hand-holdy and then gradually eases off on the brakes, designed as it is in order to underline the fact that almost every single Mario game could very well be someone's first Mario game. Before catering to the hardcore, Mario caters to the kindergarteners, and arms them with the tools needed to eventually take off their own training wheels.

Sonic looks at this and plops standard linear platforming rails in the 3D space, in the exact same shape and form you might've seen since at least Sonic Generations. You're not really left to piece things or treated to any sort of tuned escalation - things are instead extremely consistent - and you're left with doing more and more of them. You'll run in hamster wheels, kick and punch obstacles to reach point totals, grind on rails, jump between said rails, and collect a shit-ton of Rings while you're at it. The backdrops look nice, but the platforming elements pop in without much fanfare and only haphazardly fill in an empty space that's probably more worthy of a Gilson B. Pontes game.

Who's this guy, you might ask? You need only ask James Stephanie Sterling.

To wit, Sonic Frontiers is to the platforming genre what the FarCry series has become to shooters: it's very, very shiny, quite obviously polished to a mirror-sheen, and has the depth of your average unattended kiddie pool in the middle of a heat wave. It's bland, uninspired, and showcases just how, after all these years, it might be time to either retire Sega's halcyon-days mascot, or to simply grandfather him to a team that actually has their finger on the needs of a specifically Sonic-oriented design doc.

Like, um, I don't know - Christian Whitehead and Headcannon, the pairing responsible for 2017's wildly popular retread of well-honed design principles, in the form of Sonic Mania...

Sonic Underground Retrospective: Episode 6- Mobodoon

Okay, so this episode I definitely remember, and I recall really liking it as a kid, so let’s see if it holds up.

So assuming that Mobius has the same/similar calendar as Earth, that means the hedgehog’s birthday is the 4th of March, which is unusual considering the 23rd of June is normally the given date of Sonic’s birthday.

Really, you don’t notice the tree with a face?

Ok, interesting. Mobodoon seems to be inspired by Mediterranean architecture. I’ve been to the Mediterranean coasts of Spain and Turkey a few times, and it is very beautiful.

And a Wizard of Oz joke? I don't know whether to applaud or be ashamed.

I’ve been thinking. Although they're portrayed as good people in a utopian society, the citizens of Mobodoon are no better than the aristocrats of Robotropolis. They live a life of comfort and luxury while everyone outside is left to rot and they don’t seem to be contributing anything to the resistance.

A separate dimension? How does that work? It would explain how Robotnik hasn’t found them, though.

Why is Mobodoon their birthplace? Wouldn’t royal births typically be at a hospital or the royal palace? Especially when you consider (or at least I assume) that Mobotropolis/Robotropolis is the capital.

Oh god for some reason this entire scene made me tear up. It’s interesting that even though we’re introduced to Ferrell in episode one as a father figure for Manic, and it’s evident they have a close relationship, it’s clear from this scene that Manic has always felt alone amongst the thieves, after all, it’s a dog-eat-dog world out there. 

We can tell that while Sonia and Sonic have good independent social relationships i.e. with Bartleby or the other Freedom Fighters, Manic doesn’t have anyone like that. (Or at least so far, don’t kill me if turns out they introduce a childhood friend like halfway through the show or something)

Was she never told the prophecy or something? Even though she has empty nest syndrome BAD, I think Mayor Whinny-Ham would be smart enough to know why keeping Manic is a bad idea in the long run.

Oh yeah, I should probably talk about Mayor Whinny-Ham. She seems to be a pretty okay character, even if it took me almost ten years to realize she’s meant to be a horse. She seems like a good and caring leader. Hearing that she considers Aleena to be her best friend is interesting as it gives us a glimpse into the personal life of Aleena, who has always been portrayed as a slightly mysterious character on the show.

... Oh my god just realized she’s a horse because of the mayor/mare pun. Goddammit.

I know I said this last episode, but a lot of beating around the bush would be solved if the triplets were told the prophecy.

Hey, this sounds different. I think Manic’s singing VA is taking the lead this time, which is a little unusual as he’s normally backup to Sonic. I guess this makes sense, this is a Manic episode.

Manic seems to have a running theme of a childhood never lived- I recall there’s a later episode with a weird robot baby that touches on this theme more.

Since when were you a tax collector? Were the writer’s watching Disney’s Robin Hood before writing this or something because Sleet is totally channeling the Sheriff of Nottingham.

Ok, ok, so you have the small part of the world that isn’t corrupted by Robotnik in your grasp, right in front of you is not only the Queen's best friend, a very valuable person to capture, but also the Queen's children, your main targets, AND the Queen herself is supposed to show up, and you're concerned about tax collecting?

What the hell even is the power stone? Unless its job is specifically just to make things pretty, why not use it for the resistance?

Not just for prettiness then. Besides, how do you know you can recharge the medallions with a power source?

I love these three. This scene really highlights them at their best. Gotta love the banter.

Ok, so you go from good banter to kindergarten-show style celebration. I guess the writer was in a hurry for lunch or something.

Alright, that wasn’t bad. Although I’m seriously doubting the morality of the Mobodoon people, we got quite a hefty chunk of character development for Manic today, which I am extremely happy with. He’s honestly one of the best characters from this show, and you only need a quick look through the ‘Sonic Underground’ tag here on Tumblr to see he really resonates with people.
