My last bookmark post features a collection of cross-stitch ace of spades, heart and zigzag motifs! The "nope" upside-down heart designs have variants for use with four and five-stripe horizontal flags (text and hearts). The zigzags can be used for four, five and seven-stripe horizontal pride flags.
For more information on constructing the bookmark, including folding, stitching and fringing, please see this tutorial.

Made in China (Wereldmusuem, Rotterdam) - Li Xiaofeng.
Li Xiaofeng uses shards of found porcelain to assemble striking garments, from haute couture to traditional Chinese dress to military uniforms. His meticulously constructed pieces combine sculpture and sewing. Xiaofeng’s work The Weight of the Millennium (2015), a blue-and-white dress fashioned from fragments of plates, bowls, and other dinnerware, was a crowd favorite at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s 2015 blockbuster exhibition “China: Through the Looking Glass.” Made of porcelain from the Ming and Qing dynasties, this piece reflects Li’s interest in the long, complex history of this export commodity, whose forms and patterns are traces of globalization. For Li, porcelain remains a potent cultural symbol ripe for exploring themes concerning desire, value, and the circulation of materials.

my bag 🌿⛓️🌻⚙️ more details in the image ID and more pics below
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I found a small plain black leather backpack at the thrift store for $6 and made it my own :) I used silver sharpie for the swirls and made the buttons all myself with the exception of the metal ones
[Image ID: a small black leather backpack covered in patches, buttons, safety pins, studs and silver and metalic green spirals in the spaces with no patches. There are four patches on the front, an orange patch with a white trans rights symbol sewn on with white thread, and a circular green patch with a simplistic sun and moon drawin on it in black (a mirrormask patch) sewn on with black thread. And on the front pocket on the bottom, theres a dark green band patch with white lettering that says "she past away" sewn on with white thread and a black patch next to it with a red anarchy symbol sewn on the bag with red thread. There are silver spike studs lining the edges of the bag along the zipper and on the front pocket as well as soda tabs sewn onto the front pocket flap with off-white thread. And on both sides of the pocket there are safety pins decorating the empty space next to it. There are four pins on the side of the bag, a light green and white spiral pin, a light green and white "eat the rich" pin, and a metal fairy pin on the top half, and theres a metal frog with an umbrella pin on the front pocket in-between the two patches. Theres also a small orange carabiner on the pocket zipper.
On the left side of the bag, there is a patch on the bottom where a side pocket would normally be. An off-white band patch that says "bauhaus" in black lettering and it's sewn on with black thread, and there are silver spirals around it filling the space. There are some areas I left blank to make the swirls/spirals look like they're hanging down or growing up the bag like vines. There's a horizontal seam above all this that makes the area look like a pocket, and above this seam there's a metal pin with a sun, moon and stars on it.
The right side of the bag, there's no patch where a pocket should be, I instead filled this space with some spirals and more handmade bottle cap buttons. Two buttons, a larger type o negative band button that's black with white thorny vines, and a smaller red band button that says "doom scroll" on it in off-white lettering. Above the seam on this side I drew a bunch of silver spirals that look like they are growing out from behind the seam.
All thread mentioned in this post is embroidery thread, and some groups of spirals drawn on the bag are metallic green. End ID]
Here's the top of the bag as well as the straps that hang down
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
[Image ID: the bag has a rounded arch shape, and across the top of the leather I drew a cluster of green spirals in between the silver spirals I drew on the sides. There are some blank spots to avoid making the bag look busier than it already is. The loop at the top for hanging the bag is embroidered with a green leafy vine pattern. The same pattern is embroidered on the right strap that hangs down from the bottom of the bag, and on the right one, a gray barbed wire pattern is embroidered. I plan on sewing some more soda tabs onto the top of the bag at some point for the sake of adding more shiny things and also fill up some of that space I mentioned because while I don't want the bag to be too busy, I think the blank space i left on the top is a little too much blank space. End ID]

☽〇☾ Price, Ghost, Soap, Gaz, Roach, Alejandro, Rudy, Phillip Graves, Makarov, Keegan, König, Horangi, Nikto
Price
He knew how much you loved wearing flowy, comfortable clothes, it was just so convenient and nice to wear in any weather! You couldn't go out without your shawl, in cool weather it was useful to cover yourself with, and it was useful when the glaring sun was out in summer to provide some shade
When interacting with an animal, he found it endearing when you would greet it as if it were another person, many times they followed you too, and he would sigh when he'd find a new animal sitting on the window sill watching him
For some reason, he thought you were trying not to be a burden to him when you only went to thrift stores to buy your clothes, until you explained to him it was easier to find vintage stuff there, not only for your clothes but also for decorating your home
Picking out gifts for you is easy, you love anything given with love because you care more about the intentions/symbolism rather than the price of the item, but he also takes his time in choosing what to give you
Ghost
You like making some of your own clothing, simple stuff like adding some extra flair to your blouses or skirts, you even repair them too, and you've taught Simon to sew as well, it's comical to see a large man like him sitting down on a nice, sunny afternoon in the living room with the window open letting the breeze in and holding a needle so small between his big fingers
And you fondly gaze at him as you watch him sew, turns out he can patch up your clothes better than you do!
You couldn't have asked for a better boyfriend, so you always ask for his protection every day he goes out, or every time he has to go on a mission because he's the best thing that's happened to you and you can't imagine losing the one person who understands you best
You're sort of into amulets and other things that can grant protection to a person, Simon used to not believe in them but after seeing how good life can feel when you're with a person who shows you the beauty in life, he doesn't mind standing still as you stitch a protection sigil into his jacket
Soap
He thought he was hitting on a whimsigoth chick when he saw you out in the street walking with your bell sleeved top and patterned maxi skirt, he asked for your number and you surprisingly gave him yours, soon he found himself sitting next to you at a park on a date
You always carried a tote bag where ever you went, it always made a lot of noise when you walked, sounded like rocks in there or something, and when you would in reach into your bag when he was trying to pay for something he'd stop you and assure you he'd never let you pay, except you weren't planning on paying
You just have a bag of crystals in there and your tarot cards you like bringing along, never know when someone is going to need a reading, right?
He remembers the first time he came over to your place and it matched with your vibe, dried flowers/plants tied and hanging to the wall, leather-bound books on wooden bookshelves with glass bottles and even more, larger crystals
He noticed you took a liking to anything relating to the moon or sun, so he actually bought you a matching couples moon and sun bracelet, he let you pick which one you wanted
Gaz
He's always interested in what you're into, asks questions and isn't afraid in partaking in any small "rituals" you do, mostly habits really that you have, like petting every black cat you see or leaving something shiny for crows to take
There was a time crows started following him because of the things he'd leave out for them that he got scared and ran all the way home and hid until you came back, you explained that they likely just recognized him as the person who gave them food and other things
One of your favorite things to do is trying to foretell the future, you look for signs in every day life, or even just trusting your intuition when you get a certain feeling, you and Kyle will sit on the steps of your porch and observe the sky, there's a murder of crows that like to perch on a tree in the backyard
There's always a different number of them, not always the same amount, but you've heard that counting crows is a way of foretelling the future, today you counted three just as Kyle was feeling for that small box containing a ring in his pocket :)
Roach
I like to think he also loves to collect animals :), he enjoys coming along with you and foraging deep into the woods near riverbanks helping you look for skeletons and any other bones, secretly it's because he likes finding small animals like lizards or cicadas
He loves the idea that when you place an animal skull on a pile of items their spirit will protect that specific stack, he imagines that each animal bone/skull around the house has their items that they like to protect and hang near
You two love visiting the local park on weekends and taking romantic walks together, during these talks some animals might follow you
He remembers when he took you on a date out and every cat you passed would meow and come up to you, he just assumed you were really good with cats, until it started happening with crows and even snakes
Now your little companions make you both smile fondly seeing them come to greet you, you even let a cat follow you back home and couldn't bear to leave the poor thing outside in the cold :(, of course you'd bring it in! They now have their own little cushion to sleep on and get spoiled <3
Alejandro
It's literally in his blood to be into the macabre, most of his traditions revolve around that anyways, so it was no surprise that he gets along with you perfectly
He loves the herbs you have around the house because it reminds him of the elderly ladies that he used to see when he was a kid, he remembered most people avoided them, but others frequently visited them, he always viewed them as powerful and full of wisdom and knowledge
He'll listen to whatever subject interests you the most, you often talk to yourself and if he so happens to walk into a room while you're dusting the shelves or placing a new crystal and you're having a conversation with yourself, he'll just walk by like it's nothing, he knows you tend to do that
You like to grown your own herbs and plants so you won't always have to go out and buy more because now you'll never run out, it used to be Alejandro who was sent on these errands lol
Some people still talk bad about you sometimes, saying you make them feel uncomfortable, but little do they know, you leave a lemon out whenever they come by to "absorb their negative energy" and when they leave.. the lemon is brown.. how strange, something about them must be off
Alejandro was never afraid nor put off by you, you're the most alluring person he's ever seen and from the very moment he met you he had been attracted
Rudy
You've always had an air of elegance and mystery around you, people were afraid to wrong you but couldn't figure out what was so unsettling about you, contrary to that you were quite friendly to those who built up the confidence to get to know you
Rodolfo was the one to discover this and he's the one who frequently experiences your sweet side since he's your boyfriend, you'd actually be pretty lost without him! You tend to misplace your cards, crystals and other things and he's the one who patiently reminds you where to look
He helps you especially when you're in the kitchen, you like to make your kitchen space a nice and cozy area where you can be yourself, mostly focusing on herbs, you love tea and can't go a day without it! Rodolfo even learned how to make your favorite and every morning he gets up before you do to prepare it, so by the time you wake up there's a warm cup of tea by your bedside <3
You and him love cooking together, but you often misplace the notebook with all your recipes and other thoughts you write in them, sometimes he'll find the notebook but if he doesn't you have to turn to the recipes you've written in your notes app on your phone
Not all witchy people can afford or manage to keep glass bottles in their homes if they're clumsy, so you've turned to recycling plastic bottles and buying durable tupperware to store dried herbs or potions, Rodolfo helps you write what they're for in sharpie and organize them on shelves
Phillip Graves
The first time he noticed you, you were doing a tarot reading for another Shadow, he himself got curious and asked for one, you looked him straight in the eye and said "these cards mean we should go out on a date" (they did not mean that at all)
He was eager to learn more about you, he regarded your behavior not as strange but as... whimsical and it was honestly refreshing for him, you smiled at children and pets/animals, you believed those little pure souls needed all the positivity they could get before the negativity of this world got to them
You couldn't have asked for a more supportive boyfriend than Phillip, he remembers all your little quirks and habits and tries to imitate him best he can, heck he even incorporates some of them into his daily life!
Whenever he takes you on vacation he KNOWS he must stop at a shop that sells crystals or incense knowing how much you love that, you go insane in there and he has no limits knowing how happy it makes you, just stands, waiting next to the cashier smiling fondly as he sighs, ready to pull out his card whenever you're done picking out what you want
Makarov
You'd think he couldn't care less but you're WRONG, he loves bothering you all the time knowing you've got good intuition and thinks you know what everything means, assumes you can interpret his dreams, "I had a dream what does it mean?" "I'm not Joseph the fu-"
As time has gone by, he's gotten to know you better, instead of bouquets of fresh flowers, he started gifting you dried flowers which you love a lot more because you can keep them for wayyy longer, you keep it on display around your home and it brings you lots of happiness when you look at them
He also buys you a vase for every time he gifts you a bouquet, preferably ones that match your aesthetic, even though you're thankful for anything that he gets you, it's even sweeter when he pays attention to these things because it shows he truly cares
When building your new house, he came to you asking how you wanted the interior to look like, told you not to hold back and you did not hold back at all, he fully trusted the decisions you were making and the final product had a dark cottagecore vibe to it during the night but spring-like fairy vibe during the day
You can fully incorporate your desired vibes and express yourself as you wish because he's there to make it possible <3
Keegan
He used to always be the kind of guy to never really bother or pay much attention to certain things, but you were all about the small details, not obsessing but noticing, he wanted to be like that, he saw how much joy it brought you in your interactions with nature and small, inanimate things
You would talk to anything, not just yourself because it were as if you were conversing with someone, he asked you once why you did it and you replied that it's a habit that you developed as a child, which is common, but never "grew" out of it, you were sure someone listened even if you thought you were alone
He walks into your room to stare at the stacks of cards, crystals, potion bottles, an alarming amount of bones you found when foraging in the woods, etc..
Speaking of bones, you always take a bag when going on hikes, you'll be walking with Keegan hand in hand and suddenly he doesn't feel you beside him anymore, you've veered off the path to dig up a bone you saw sticking out of the dirt, and if you're lucky to find a whole deer decomposing you get overexcited and take the big container you made Keegan load up in his truck
Of course, you ask the deer or animal for permission to harvest their bones before taking them, Keegan can only stand there and watch, slightly concerned for you, but you'll make him help you clean the bones when you get home
König
He's never delved much into the same things you have but he tries his best to comply and make you happy, you love crafting, almost everything in your home is handmade by you, you believe the effort you put into those things benefit you and your home, providing positive energy
There's certain herbs you can never run out of: rosemary, sage, lavender, etc.. you try to grow your own but let's say you don't have much luck with plants, you've tried everything and you can't figure out what you're doing wrong, you decide to tell König and to your surprise he says to let him handle it
Those herbs are growing nicely and quite healthy when you decide to test him, who knew he could be so good with them, you let him take care of the rest of your plants while you focus on the more "dirty" work which is the process of cleaning your bones, you have to bury them to let the bugs eat the flesh and then dig the bones back up later to check up on them until you can clean them yourself
You also love buying and hanging tapestries up, preferably those with mushrooms on them, but you have a hard time because unlike someone you aren't super tall and pulling up a chair with a wobbly leg isn't the safest option... König rushes over just in time to help you down and instead you sit back and tell him where to put the tapestry up
And when he's done? You got four more you want to hang up in other rooms, but he's willing to do anything for you
Horangi
God, he just loves loves LOVES your style, on some days it can range from long and flowy maxi dresses that are comfortable and perfect for simple chores around the house or it can be bell bottoms with a shirt tied in the front
Despite how often he scolds you for this but you like walking barefoot around the house, in your backyard too when the weather is warm and you want some sun or even if it's raining and you want to enjoy the rain, he's afraid you'll catch a cold or step on something that'll cut your skin
When on bookstore dates, you're always drawn to the book section that features books about spells, or related to witchcraft, anything that can be useful information for your home
Often, when a tough decision comes your way you like playing with a pendulum, you often stay up late at night, letting your thoughts just run rampant within your mind as that pendulum swings and you sit in a pensive state, sometimes it can even help you if you're feeling anxious because just watching it swing back and forth helps to get your mind away from negative thoughts
Nikto
He never outright asked nor assumed if you were a witch, I mean, you resembled one.. but if asked he could never place a finger on it, he didn't care either
Never really paid much mind to what you were up to most of the time, barely even questioned you when you'd stay up late at night or get overly excited when it was the full moon, he noticed you always marked the lunar cycle on your calendar, you kept up with it regularly, also didn't say much about that either
You love burning candles and other herbs to keep your home clean, he likes coming home to the smell as he's grown accustomed to it, feels it as welcoming even and always thinks of you if he detects it elsewhere
You love being out in nature like him, you two love veering off into the woods and making your own paths to explore, you do it to connect with nature as you deeply resonate with it, he observes you and it's almost like seeing you be in your true element, always brings a flashlight or a lantern knowing that not even the sun going down will keep you from playing in the woods at night
You say that as long as you're respecting the wildlife, you have nothing to fear

Hermit-a-Day May, day 18: JoeHills. Today's style/medium is puppet-making! Or mostly sewing with a few other things thrown in. I had a ton of fun with this one, even though it took...so much time to make. I usually explain why I chose a certain medium but this one is...pretty self-explanatory, I think. If you have any Joe clips you want to see a puppet show of, send them my way! Details, materials, and a couple more pictures under the read more.
Materials: this pattern by Abby Glassenberg and all of its required components (minus the eyes), googly safety eyes from Amazon, baby clothes from a local thrift store, and white fabric paint.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I was originally going to try to get doll clothes to dress the Juppet in, since I didn't want to sew the outfit from scratch, but couldn't find any that were quite right. After a couple unfruitful trips into stores, I stopped by a local children's thrift store and poked around their newborn and preemie section until I found an orange onesie and gray jacket/cardigan that were close enough to the right colors. I know the jacket on Joe's skin is probably a hoodie, given the pocket placement, but surprisingly, few people seem to be manufacturing hoodies for newborn babies. Once I got home, I hacked off the bottom of the orange onesie, hemmed it, and painted the at symbol on the back with fabric paint. The front (now back) still says "daddy's mighty guy" with a picture of two dinosaurs on it and that amuses me greatly.
The puppet pattern itself was a little tricky, and there were a couple spots that I think could have used some more explanation, but I made it through. In hindsight, I wish I'd used bigger eyes, but I couldn't find safety eyes (the kind that pokes through the fabric and gets secured with a washer) in a larger size and the style I wanted, and I didn't want to just glue regular googly eyes on because I was worried it wouldn't be sturdy enough (and the edges might look messy). I ended up having to hot glue the felt pieces to the inside of the mouth, even though the pattern recommended normal craft glue for that part, because it would not stick no matter what I did. If I were to make the pattern again, I'd probably try to sew the roof of the mouth and tongue pieces onto the pink felt before attaching it to the head, rather than gluing them on after.
Honestly, there are a lot of things I would do differently if I were to make another puppet, but I'm pretty proud of how this one turned out, especially for my first time doing something like this! I just. have a Juppet in my house now. I don't know how to feel about this. I know this is a pretty complicated piece, so if you have any additional questions, feel free to message me (or send an ask, or reply to this post, or send the message by carrier pigeon--whatever floats your boat).

My Current Inventory of Magic Tools
Here's a list of tools I use in my spiritual practice that can inspire others that are on this path! While some are heritage pieces that cost a lot of money up-front due to craftsmanship, the every-day tools are pretty inexpensive. For example, most candles can be found at the dollar store, and incense can be personalized to your taste. For my practice, I use cedar incense, since it is known as a cleansing plant in the Christian tradition, and many Acadian and Québécois households used cedar on Palm Sunday before palms became widely available.
Most of the heritage pieces, for anyone wanting to participate, I strongly encourage investing a few extra dollars to get good quality items! It will last you years of magical practice, and you can use them with pride.

La ceinture fléchée - the woven sash
A symbol of identity to the Métis living on the Canadian plains, the historical Huron-Wendat people, and historically worn by French voyageurs and fur traders and their indigenous partners in trade, these sashes were strapped around the waist. These were mostly useful in keeping the woollen coats closed, store belted tools, help with the strain of carrying heavy pelts, and prevent hernias and back strain on long canoe expeditions. The long strands on the end could also be used as impromptu sewing thread. These sashes would reach about 15cm to 25cm and its length easily passes 2 metres. These sashes were traded among indigenous groups for furs, and later, by the Hudson's Bay Company in the 19th century. It became a part of the traditional Québecois peasant clothing at least since 1776. As the sash travelled upriver to the plains and beyond, Métis groups adopted the sashes, elaborated on its craftsmanship, and truly made it one of their most recognized symbols. Depending on where the sash is woven, the colours can change. For example, for Québec, they preferred a blue colour scheme, for Montréal, red, and for those woven in between Ottawa and the Red River, black was more prominent. Hand-woven sashes can take up to 500 hours to complete. (1)
The one pictured above I bought from Etchiboy, a Métis artisan. The sash I bought was inspired from the Assomption sash motif, one of the oldest known woven patterns from the 18th century. I wear it on my woodland wanderings, for rituals, and cultural days. I especially wear it in winter to keep my coat closed. I chose to adopt the sash into my practice after lots of research. It is an item of rich history between the French and their indigenous allies, and a consequence of the fur trade in our country. I encourage anyone who's interested to buy from artisans who hand-weave them! There are machine-woven ones nowadays that might be less expensive, but nothing beats the quality of good wool and good weaving. With the richness of variety in the weaving patterns depending on the region they're from, why not have a sash that harkens back to the history of your region?

The walking stick or 'le gourdin'
In Québécois folktales, the stick, known as 'the gourdin', was most seen as a gift from a woodland fairy (like a guardian of all trees, or a mistress of the birds) to the intrepid hero Ti-Jean. This magical stick could thwack all his adversaries with the simple command of "tappe, gourdin!" (slap, stick!), among other fabulous deeds (2) This stick was a tool of protection on long journeys fraught with peril. So, what better companion to the Canadien witch than a walking stick? I use mine for every excursion, and have added to it some talismans of a wolf, owl and skull to keep evil spirits at bay. There's also a portable rosary around the stick, and the Ste. Anne of Beaupré religious medal. Historically, she was often a saint prayed to by voyageurs before they undertook the long and perilous journey to the fur trading posts, usually near present-day Montreal. (3)
Tumblr media
The pocket knife
The pocket knife is a multi-talented tool of our trade! It can carve folksy figurines, cut wooden branches for weaving, harvest plants, cut curses, and keep les feux-follets (willow-the-wisps) at bay. Folklore has it that if you're out camping in the woods, fold you knife so that it creates a 90-degree angle, and stick it into the bark of a tree bordering your campsite. In the morning, if the blade is bloody, chances are it was the feux follet being intrigued by the space between the blade and the tree, and cutting its throat, thereby being free from its doomed roaming. (4) It is also a well-known tool in case you need to free a loup-garou (werewolf) from its curse by cutting it on its white spot on the forehead where he previously received communion as a kid. (5) By extension, it is a vital tool to break curses. Of course, don't make anyone bleed with the knife. That goes without saying. Treat the knife well, keep it sharp.
Tumblr media
The rosary
Yes, my path has Catholic tools in it. Of course! Quebecois and Acadians of my ancestry were Catholic people primarily. It is a versatile tool in my practice, used for spellwork as well as meditative prayer. For those who are interested in praying the Rosary traditionally, I'll create a separate post. For spellwork purposes, I usually say a round of "Hail Mary" ten times before starting a spell for the ultimate protective shield. There is also known folk uses for the rosary in Acadian and Québécois communities. For example, to fidget with the rosary without intent or purpose brings about the Devil. (6) The rosary can also be used as a tool to find lost items. Simply toss the rosary over your shoulder, and the crucifix will point in the direction of the lost item. If you want good weather on your wedding day, hang up your rosary on your laundry cord the day before. (7). Rosaries nowadays even come in decade forms as portable rings for your pocket, and some are actual rings you can wear on your finger. I got a few rosaries myself. One for special rituals (I never toss that one over my shoulder!), and cheaper, more portable options for the tossing spell.
Tumblr media
Holy medals
I amassed quite a collection of holy medals for individual saints. Other notable ones are those for the souls in Purgatory (worn on All Souls Day), the Holy Spirit at (worn on Pentecost or when I do divination), Jesus the Shepherd (it's comforting), Stella Maris (patron saint of Acadians). I have a few of the same for more frequented purposes, for example, I keep a Saint Luke medal on my artist's pencil case, since he is the patron saint of artists. Traditionally in Acadian communities, it was known that when your day was going awfully, and your bread dough just wouldn't rise, you just needed to boil some holy medals in water to turn your luck around (8). They are quite inexpensive, so it's fast and easy to grow a collection in a short period of time. Many catholic retailers sell them.
Tumblr media
Divination tools : the playing cards, dice and coin
My divination tools can be found in anyone's cupboard and drawers. The trusty playing cards deck nowadays comes in such amazing variety of art, the one I picked for myself was the Bicycle Aviary Playing Cards. It has such a lovely folk art vibe to them! The way to divine them comes from sources of card-playing and superstitions from history and folktales from folklorist Marius Barbeau, and people over centuries carrying around the cards for entertainment and perhaps a glimpse into their futures. One guide on reading the cards: Fifty-Four Devils: The Art & Folklore of Fortune-Telling with Playing Cards by Cory Thomas Hutcheson. Dice can also be used in the same manner if you're doing a numerology-based divination. The coin can be used as a simple yes or no divination by playing 'heads or tails'. The coin can be a beautiful commemorative coin like mine, or a simple 'cenne noire' (blackened penny), or whatever currency you have on hand.

The sewing kit and fibre arts
I wanted to add this iconic cookie tin into the folk witch's repertoire, because we all had grandmothers who had this tin lying around with their tools to mend and sew anything. In my practice, and in my hobbies, I make clothing and I embroider. I can use this tin to house my relevant supplies to have some sacred time darning old socks, creating spiritual garments by hand, or embroidering pretty things. You can also draw sigils on the rim's inner side for blessing your items inside! There's also other uses for some of these tools in your home! For example, my great-great grandmother used to use her thimble to create the holes in her croxignoles, these woven doughnut style rings from the Magdalen Islands.
Tumblr media
Musical spoons
Musical spoons, sometimes made of wood to be used for musical purposes, as shown here, or made from every-day metal spoons held together for the same effect, are an iconic instrument in French-Canadian folk music. I would recommend learning how to play them rhythmically and to use that as a grounding tool. I just find these way more authentic than a drum. Not to mention rhythmic foot tapping and step dances are frequently used in our folk music to set up a beat.
Tumblr media
Woven Cloths
These beautiful cloths or 'serviettes' were woven by my mother on a giant hand-loom, often employed by local farmer's guilds in Québec. Les Cercles des Fermières du Québec sometimes has craft fairs where they sell these among other hand-crafted items. In folklore, the cloth was present when Ti-Jean needed to create a magical feast on the fly, create a magical tent for shelter, or carry around all his tools for his journey. These cloths however were almost always given by a fay creature, so best be cautious in eating food from it. Nowadays, it can be used as altar cloths, protective shields for your tools, or to apply healing energy to an ailment you carry. (9) I use mine to do my card readings, wrap special items. If you are lucky enough to find a 'catalogne', which is a heavy blanket woven on those big looms from scraps of old t-shirts, cottons and the like, that's like, a massive cloth you can have over your bed and its folkloric properties can be used for protection and good dreams. It is also the best weighted blanket for anxiety, tried and tested by me! Mine was woven by my grandmother.

hey pack
Here's another list to help you explore and connect with your therianthropy on a deeper level, with some fresh activities, crafts, and prompts tailored to embrace particularly a wolf species.
Activities
• Sound and Howling Practice:
• Record yourself howling at different times of day or under different moods. Reflect on how each "howl" feels—how does it release emotion or connect you to your wolf side?
• Create a "howl playlist" with music that stirs your therian instincts (e.g., nature sounds, drumming, atmospheric pieces).
• Wolf Senses Exercise:
• Spend time in a quiet natural setting focusing on your senses:
• Sight: Notice movement, light, and color details like a hunting wolf.
• Smell: Bring herbs or natural objects to engage your scent sense.
• Hearing: Focus on distant sounds and rhythms in nature, like rustling leaves or bird calls.
• Journal about what you notice when you "switch on" your senses like a wolf.
• Therian Nesting or Den Building:
• Create a cozy “den” space at home using blankets, pillows, and objects that feel lupine or natural to you.
• Spend time there journaling, napping, or meditating on your wolf self.
• Tracking Practice:
• Learn about animal tracks, especially wolves, and go on a walk looking for signs of animals (tracks, fur, disturbed earth).
• Alternatively, make your own wolf paw prints in mud or sand to explore how it feels to leave your mark.
• Scavenger Hunt for Natural Items:
• Gather nature objects that feel wolf-like: feathers, stones, sticks, or bones (ethically sourced). Arrange them into a display or altar dedicated to your therian self.
• Moon Rituals:
• During full moons, sit outside, howl, or meditate while reflecting on the moon’s importance to you.
• Track your emotions during different moon phases. Does the waxing or waning affect your therian instincts?
• Animal Behavior Study:
• Watch documentaries or videos about wolves, paying attention to their body language and pack dynamics.
• Mimic their movements or postures in your own space—practice stalking, sitting alert, or playful bowing.
• Wild Running or Walking Meditation:
• Go on a mindful walk or run where you imagine yourself as a wolf. Pay attention to your posture, your breath, and how your body feels in motion.
• Natural Meal Exploration:
• Make a "prey-inspired" meal. Use ingredients that feel raw, earthy, or natural (e.g., a protein-packed dish with mushrooms, lentils, or root vegetables). Reflect on the primal satisfaction of eating mindfully.
• Dream Exploration:
• Keep a dream journal and focus on wolf-related dreams or animal symbolism. Reflect on their meanings and what your subconscious might be telling you.
Crafts
• Wolf Mask or Headdress:
• Create a wolf mask using papier-mâché, clay, or fabric to wear during rituals or journaling sessions. Decorate it with natural colors, fur textures, or paint patterns that reflect your inner wolf.
• Therian Symbols and Totems:
• Carve or paint a personal symbol that represents your therianthropy on wood, rocks, or clay. Carry it as a token or talisman.
• Custom Scent Blend:
• Make your own wolf-inspired scent using essential oils. Focus on earthy, woodsy, or musky tones like cedarwood, pine, sage, and patchouli. Use it during meditation or den-building.
• Fur and Tail Crafting:
• Sew or craft a faux fur tail to wear around your home or during personal therian activities. Focus on the ritual of creating something tied to your wolf identity.
• Bone or Stick Art:
• Use ethically sourced bones, sticks, or driftwood to create art that feels primal—like wall hangings, carvings, or sculptures.
• Therian Journal or Grimoire:
• Craft a dedicated journal for your therian reflections. Decorate it with nature elements (pressed leaves, paw print stamps, fur textures).
• Paw Print Artwork:
• Paint or draw paw prints on canvas, paper, or clay. Use them as decorations for your den or altar.
• Howl-Inspired Poetry or Music:
• Write poems, songs, or chants inspired by your wolf self. Incorporate themes of the moon, wilderness, longing, or pack connection.
• Wolf Vision Board:
• Create a vision board using images, words, and symbols that reflect your therianthropy and wolf self. Include wolf conservation efforts, moon phases, or natural scenes that call to you.
• Nature Bracelet or Necklace:
• String together natural elements like stones, wooden beads, or wolf-like charms into a wearable piece of jewelry to symbolize your therian identity.
Journal Prompts
• Primal Connection:
• When do you feel most connected to your wolf self? Is it during certain times of day, seasons, or activities?
• The Call of the Wild:
• Describe a time when you felt a strong urge to “return to the wild.” What triggered it, and how did you handle it?
• Senses and Instincts:
• Which of your wolf senses feels strongest (sight, smell, hearing, etc.)? How do you use it in everyday life?
• Emotions and Shifts:
• How does your wolf identity help you process human emotions like anger, loneliness, or joy?
• What does a phantom shift or mental shift feel like for you?
• Pack Reflection:
• Who in your life feels like “pack” to you? What roles do you and others play?
• Do you ever feel like an outsider among humans? How do you cope with that feeling?
• Wild Identity:
• What does “wildness” mean to you, and how do you nurture it in your day-to-day life?
• Symbolism of the Wolf:
• How do you embody the symbolism of the wolf—strength, loyalty, intuition, or freedom?
• What lessons has the wolf taught you about yourself?
• Therian Storytelling:
• Write a story or scene where you fully experience life as a wolf in the wild. What do you see, hear, and feel?
• Human vs. Wolf Balance:
• How do you balance your therian instincts with human life? Are there parts of yourself you suppress or embrace?

Hello. May I get an Astarion x Tav story? Tav was secretly creating a blanket for Astarion by themselves, but he sees them working on it. Instead of immediately revealing that it's for him, they have him help make it until it's finished. 💕
Awwwwwwwwwww I love this xx
─── ・ 。゚☆: .☽ . :☆゚. ───
Astarion x gn!reader : Sewn
Tumblr media
─── ・ 。゚☆: .☽ . :☆゚. ───
You had been secretly working on a special gift for Astarion—a finely crafted blanket. Each night, after everyone else had fallen asleep, and you were Astarion was out on his nightly hunt, you would take out the materials you had gathered from the day and quietly work on your project. The blanket was a tapestry of your shared adventures, each patch representing a memory or a place you had visited together. You were determined to finish it without him knowing, eager to surprise him with a gift that carried so much meaning. The gods knew he deserved it.
One evening, while you were diligently sewing a particularly intricate pattern, Astarion flounced into your tent, complaining that there was nothing good out in the woods to eat, eyelashes batting and a persuasive pout on his lips, intending to ask you for a little nibble.
“It's a travesty, truly I'm going to starve - Oh darling! What are you working on?” Astarion asked, his voice smooth and curious as he walked over to you.
You quickly tried to hide the blanket under your clothes you had laid out for tomorrow, but it was too late. His beady eyes had already latched on to it.
“Oh, just a little project. Nothing special,” you replied, trying to sound nonchalant.
Astarion raised an eyebrow, a smirk playing at his lips. “A little project, you say? It looks rather intricate for something trivial.”
Caught, you sighed and decided to take a different approach. “Alright, you caught me. It’s a blanket, and I could use some help with it. Care to join?”
His curiosity piqued, Astarion sat down beside you. “A blanket? How intriguing. What’s the occasion?”
You smiled mysteriously, not ready to reveal the full truth. “Let’s just say it’s for someone very special.”
Astarion’s eyes sparkled with interest as he took a seat next to you, and you handed him some thread and fabric. "Alright then, gods knows you need by help your thread work is positively backwards- ."
"-You don't have to help, me Astarion," You playfully chided him and he huffed settling down, not wanting to get kicked out of your tent. You smiled and the two of you worked in tandem, a bit of gossip shared between you.
As the days went by, Astarion grew more invested in the 'project'. You both spent hours working side by side, sharing the trials and tribulations of the day with each other. The blanket gradually took shape, and you had to admit that perhaps Astarion was a better sewer than you.
One evening, as the fire crackled and the blanket was nearly complete, Astarion paused, looking at the almost-finished product. “You know, this blanket is quite beautiful. Whoever it’s for is very fortunate indeed.”
You smiled, feeling a mixture of excitement and nervousness. “Very fortunate indeed, in face look here, Astarion," Taking a deep breath, you laid the blanket out in front of him. “This blanket is for you, Astarion. Every patch, every stitch, it’s all to remind you of our journey together.”
Astarion’s eyes widened in surprise, then softened with an emotion you rarely saw—vulnerability. “For me?” he whispered, his voice almost trembling.
“Yes,” you said, taking his hands in yours. “I wanted to give you something that shows how much you mean to me. How much our time together has meant.”
For a moment, Astarion was silent, his eyes tracing the patterns and symbols on the blanket. Then, a slow smile spread across his face. “You crafty minx,” he murmured, pulling you into a gentle embrace. “You’ve managed to surprise me, and darling, that’s no easy feat.”
You laughed, feeling a weight lift off your shoulders. “I’m glad you like it.”
“Like it?” Astarion shook his head, his eyes shining with affection. “I love it. And I love you, my dear.”
Little short wholesome piece for y'all, hope you all enjoyed it - Seluney xox

Doyle Legacy 1890s - 1900s LOOKBOOK
Tumblr media
Helena Doyle Harrington 1890s - 1900s
Babies first Lookbook!😀
Helena's upbringing was marked by poverty, stemming from the loss of her mother. This hardship led her to turn to prostitution for survival. However, her future husband Eddy, rescued her from a dangerous encounter with a violent client, allowing her to leave that life behind.
Together, they transformed an abandoned hunting shed into a functioning farm for their family.
Known affectionately as "Dove," Which is a pet name given to her since she worked as a painted lady. The color red became symbol for Helena since she adopted it as her signature, using the color to accentuate her vibrant hair and attract clientele during her time in the sex work industry.
Even after transitioning from a sex worker to a devoted wife I kept that color in mind each time she got an updated wardrobe.
The Harringtons lived poorly which is also why some of Helena's outfits seem out of date for time, she utilized her knowledge of previous decades sewing patterns to make clothes for herself.
I used up every outfit slot in CAS and I'd rather not overwhelm myself so instead I chose my favorites to share!

Character Design: Part 1
KIMONO
What stands out the most about his design as soon as you see it is his striking red kimono. Most of you are probably familiar with this aspect of Japanese culture, which is also common all around the world, and that is the bright floral patterns are not commonly seen on men’s kimono, but women’s. Young women especially tend to wear more colourful kimonos with longer sleeves, called furisode, and older, mature women wear calmer colours and more subdued prints. You can appreciate this particular distinction when looking at maiko and geiko/geisha.
Kimono sleeves are sewn from top to bottom, leaving room only for the hand to come out, but Koujaku’s are not. Some people believe he could have cut his sleeves to make it easier to fight, but this doesn’t make sense to me, if anything it’s more annoying. Instead of having one fold of clothing flying around, there are two now. If he wanted to pull his sleeves aside to fight, he could use a tasuki to tie them back as this og post points out. The sleeves are also too short even for a men’s kimono. Compare these kimonos and then what Ryuuhou’s kimono looks like compared to his.
Tumblr media
This same post theorizes that he probably cut the sleeves to make the kimono look more like a man’s kimono, but due to his inexperience he cut too much or didn’t dare to sew it back on, a theory I agree with. Even though it’s pointed out he likes traditional stuff, and that is specifically invested in kimono wearing he can still be inexperienced, or it could be a design detail to make it more obvious.
However in the original post they also theorize that he’s wearing his mother’s kimono, taking into account honyalala’s comment in the artbook where she says she wanted to include elements that reminded everyone of his mother everywhere.
And although I like this theory and think it’s adorable, I don’t think it should be taken into account. I get the feeling that they wanted to make the design itself have a lot of feminine elements or that remind us of the feminine, of women, and ultimately, of his mother. But he himself says in the Drama CD that the only thing he has left from his mother is the hairpin he gave her when he was a kid.
Tumblr media
It could be questioned whether the kimono really belongs to his mother and NC made a mistake writing this, but it seems to me to be too much of an important and obvious mistake for them not to change it when they revised it.
There are symbolic elements that refer to certain themes to represent them visually, but they don’t have to be taken literally, so I think that even if there are many feminine elements in his design to remember his mother, it doesn’t mean they’re all inherited from her, but rather a representation of the relationship between Koujaku and his mother and how he remembers her and the impact she had on him.
So for me this kimono/furisode is a normal woman’s kimono that he chose because he liked it, then customized.
OBI
Let’s take a look at the obi. His obi is a male styled obi, narrow and placed over the hips. The female ones are much wider, decorated and placed higher, covering part of the waist and chest. But the knot he uses is a bunko knot, a typically feminine knot.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The pattern on his obi is a turtle shell pattern, kikko. Turtles are known for how long their lifespan can be, so it symbolizes longevity, a positive desire for a long life. Turtles can also protect themselves with their shell, it is their shield, so it also gives the idea of protection, a prayer for good luck. It could also allude to solidity, stability and strong power, given the nature of their sturdy geometric shapes. Apparently it was a very prestigious pattern when first introduced, even treated as sacred, becoming a pattern only the high classes could use.
Tumblr media
The flower you see inside the pattern is a chrysanthemum, extremely simplified, like the family crest symbols, identical even, although the image quality isn't very good. This flower is the symbol of the imperial family of Japan, and I think they made this choice precisely because he is the heir of his family, of their criminal “empire”. The chrysanthemum is related to longevity as well, autumn, nobility and youth, as well as having ties to Buddhism. This flower in ancient times would repel evil spirits and bring prosperity, and it was first introduced as a medicinal flower.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
COLLAR
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I've always assumed that the flower engraved on his necklace thing’s decoration was a cherry blossom, given how important it is to his identity and his relationship with Aoba. But, although not always, cherry blossoms are usually depicted with this small gap on its leaves, but this one is round. I don’t know how much credit to give to it being a small decoration and not incorporating certain details because of that or if it could actually be a different, similar flower like an apricot blossom or some other small round flower. Apricot blossoms are related to resilience, indomitable spirit and the ability to overcome adversity because of their late winter blooming. Also modesty, timid love and a timid maiden.
