Friendly reminder that if you talk about how representation is important and how there's not enough diverse media, I implore you to seek out the media that already exists. And if you live in an area with a public library, go to see if they're available at your public library. And then go check them out.
As a librarian, it is demoralizing to see how low the circulation statistics are on lgbt+ books and books by BIPOC authors. I include them in displays and readers advisory, but people still don't check them out as much. Libraries only have a finite amount of resources, including space. We don't get a book then keep it forever. If not enough people check it out, we have to get rid of it to make room for more books. And when James Patterson Book #69 gets checked out 30 times in one year and cool, subversive Sci fi novel with a Black trans woman main character has never been checked out once, the librarian (me) has to make a hard decision.
If you're looking for something tangible and easy to do this pride month, look for lgbt+ books (there are millions of lists online that you can find. It's easier than it's ever been to find diverse books) and check them out from your library.
No time to read? Look for a short story or poetry anthology and just read as much as you have time for. Or just check out a book cus it looks interesting and read as much as you can. We have movies too.
As cool as it would be for me to just keep the books I want and get rid of the ones I don't, I have to listen to the community on matters of collection development. And the community tells me what books they want by checking them out and leaving the ones they don't want on the shelf.
If you think this doesn't apply to you because you live in a progressive area and obviously the books are being checked out, you're wrong. I once worked in a community with a large lgbt population. Those books were not getting checked out. If you want to tell me you live in a conservative area and your library doesn't have any diverse books, you are legally obligated to check the catalog before replying to this post. I currently work in a conservative community and we have lgbt+ and bipoc books. And if you still cannot find any, you are legally obligated to see if your library has a collection request form that patrons can fill out before replying to this post.
I just wanted to draw the 8 princes of Rhodolite side by side, trying to think about their height differences and different body types. I suppose these might be my headcanons? I'm sure there are lot of things you learn about them in their routes and such so if those things are not present it is because I haven't played their routes.
I'm still bit peeved that Licht's sprite looks like a stick when he is the head of the army of Rhodolite. So I will not stop giving him some mass. I made Luke bit more burly, (How about making him a BEAR?👀👀) because I have gotten the idea that he is a warrior too and not just lanky and tall. I wanted to respect their sprites so I didn't go too wild.
I’ve always enjoyed the music of the Bad Batch, but holy shit. This is such a subtle thing that almost nobody would recognize consciously, but it adds SO much subtext to the scene at the end of the latest episode:
Crosshair’s theme changes. Since the very first episode of the Bad Batch when he confronts them in the hangar after being brainwashed, his music has been defined by synth. But in the last few moments of The Outpost, Crosshair’s theme evolves. The notes are the same, but they’re not synth anymore.
They’re BRASS.
“Why is brass important?” you may ask.
Because clones, and ESPECIALLY their valor/honor/duty as soldiers, are defined by brass. Listen to the first 30 seconds or so of this song, the clone theme from TCW:
youtube
Now close your eyes and listen to the music of the last few minutes of “The Outpost.” Listen to Crosshair’s theme as he watches the vulture’s shadow on the ground. Then again, as he stands up and makes his choice to avenge Mayday. There’s less and less synth, replaced instead by organic string instruments.
And then, after he avenges Mayday, the honorable choice, he collapses. It changes to BRASS.
The music acknowledges Crosshair’s growth from a good soldier following orders to a man choosing to do the right thing. Holy shit.
But I think is practically canon that laudna is very clingy so whenever imogen has a VERY close call (almost all the time) laudna gets worried and has to be at all times glued to imogen to remind herself that she's still alive
Happy Birthday to Luo Yunxi! 36 years of being a wonderful and inspiring human being, here's to many more to come!
I had made this back in 2022, bringing it back now revamped and updated, with more questions and results for his roles in the dramas that aired since then.
Rules: Make a poll of your favourite female characters (no limits - as many or as little as you want) and see which your followers like the most!
tagged by @grapecaseschoices Thank you! I started thinking of my favorite female characters and then I couldn't stop. I tried not to put too many obscure women, but some of these ladies I just can't leave out (I did actually weed out most of the more niche ladies and put them in the tags)
I try to stay out of major politics on my blog, but I keep seeing a lot of U.S citizens talking about their upcoming election as only two candidates and not wanting to vote for either.
SO, to those people, may I present to you this:
The U.S. has more than 2 parties
There are other people (and I’m talking more than just RFK), there are options—about 3 more:
Cornel West——Chase Oliver——Jill Stein
Their respective parties are:
Independent——Libertarian——Green Party
Voting beyond the Big Two (or three) is not wasting or throwing away your vote (contrary to standard opinion)
Since it is a rough election, may I suggest voting your conscience rather than who you think will win—who knows how many others might to the same this election?
That’s not a jab btw, I know quite a few who vote that way.
This also isn’t a post saying these other candidates are better than the Big Two.
This post is about letting people know their options and encouraging informed choice.
I know more choices aren’t always helpful, but Do your own research and may the odds be ever in your favor.
(sorry, the hunger games reference seemed applicable, but genuinely, Good Luck and maybe enjoy a few cathartic listen throughs of “We Didn’t Start the Fire” by either Billy Joel or Fall Out Boys)
