10 of my favorite easy glow up tips! 𐙚 ‧₊˚ ⋅
Tumblr media Tumblr media
get a gua sha!! not expensive at all and made such a difference in my face shape and carving out my cheek bones and jawline. there’s lots of good tutorials on tiktok or youtube!
tea in the morning/night! there’s so many teas to help with different things but my favorite’s are spearmint tea for clearing skin and green tea for reducing bloating.
ice your face! helps SO much with de-puffing and closing up your pores! dipping your face in a bowl with ice water can reduce inflammation, help with acne and reduce oily skin!
make sure to get enough sleep! It’s so easy to stay up scrolling on tumblr until the sun comes up but getting enough sleep is so important mentally and physically!
find a skincare routine that works for you and remember too much skincare can be bad for your skin! my skin was breaking out the worst when i was using a bunch of skincare and It’s cleared so much since i simplified my routine.
use a lash/brow serum! my favorite brand is grande lash and it’s a little pricey but using castor oil works as well and it’s super affordable.
going on walks! I’ve never been a fan of intense exercises and I’m a chronic bed rotter but putting on my favorite hot girl playlist and strutting on the treadmill/sidewalk is genuinely so fun!
rosemary oil for hair growth! my holy grail of hair growth products along with a scalp massager. my whole life my hair grew so slow and since using rosemary oil i have to trim my bangs twice a month sometimes!
i cannot stress this one enough..wear what YOU want! don’t let new trends or judgment from others stop you from embracing your true style. we look our best when we feel most confident!
most importantly ~ take care of yourself! make sure you’re eating enough, drinking water, listening to your body and being gentle with yourself always. improving ourselves can be so fun but make sure it’s not at the expense of your mental health <3

TS3 - LS3SR09 (No CC)
ENG:
When I took on this challenge from @joshttew, the first thing that came to mind was a towering building with glass everywhere. But the game’s height limit made it incredibly challenging. So much so that I gave up—at least for a while—because nothing I tried fully solved the problem or matched the vision I had in my head.
This week, though, I decided to give it another go, and… LOOK AT THIS BEAUTY! Isn’t it absolutely stunning?! I’m beyond proud of how this build turned out. 😭
For those curious about the technical details, here’s how I made it work: the building actually has only 5 floors (not counting the garage), but thanks to this amazing tutorial, I was able to make it look much taller. Since windows can’t be placed on walls altered this way, I picked a wallpaper that mimics the appearance of windows. In other words, the whole thing is just an illusion!
This game can be incredibly frustrating at times, but with a little creativity and a lot of patience, you can achieve some truly amazing results.
I hope you like it!

A Big Collection of Art Tutorials
I find art tutorials really useful and also, sometimes quite far-flung. I'll come across one cool resource here and another incredibly helpful post in a totally different place, months later. I've been collecting bits and pieces of art advice that ease my way for a long time now, and I wanted to make a post to share some of the good art resources I've come found all in one place! GENERAL RESOURCES The Etherington Bros. have an enormous repertoire of drawing advice on their blog and I find almost all of it spot on! Griz and Norm have an incredible tumblr chock full of tutorials!
Drawing Den is a great tumblr that collects how-to-draw resources! Zephy.fr has some lovely free tutorials on their Insta (their main site is paid, but I've found the free resources to be quite helpful all on their own)
Sycra has a truly wonderful YT channel comprising a zillion vids on practically every topic - he's been going a long time and it's all excellent (his stuff on human anatomy and figure really fixed some difficulties for me)! DRAWING PEOPLE THIS is my favorite basic breakdown on expressions! A HELPFUL WAY to conceptualize drawing hair! People are complex - simplifying with CLEAR SILHOUETTE helps!
Aging or de-aging characters can be rough- THIS HELPS imo! WHEELCHAIRS are easy to get wrong if you don't have one/haven't studied how to draw them - and this is a very helpful remedy!
CLOTHES Hats are difficult to get sitting right and THIS POST helps a lot!
Suits and formal clothing can be A Lot: THIS LAYS IT OUT helpfully!
Historical Menswear is tricky: TRY THIS LINK by Shoomlah
And as always.... DON'T FORGET TO STRETCH YOUR HANDS!!!
(this makes a big difference in the long run, I can't emphasize enough that you oughta try a little stretching on the regular!)

blue lock x cyclist user.. doesn’t even have to be the professional ones could be the street cyclist ykyk
And pls she'd be so baddie like overtaking opponents gyatt
“𝐥𝐞𝐭’𝐬 𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐞”
Tumblr media
a/n: hey siri, play vroom vroom by charli xcx
lavender lamborghini, roll up in a blue bikini
suggestive content inside! (sorry i’ve been slacking with that recently, but shidou is always suggestive honestly…)
ft. isagi yoichi, mikage reo, kaiser michael, itoshi rin, karasu tabito, bachira meguru, nagi seishiro, shidou ryusei, itoshi sae
isagi yoichi
he thought he had good stamina.
nah. you took him on one of your “light” rides and homie was praying to god on the fifth hill.
“yoichi, you good?”
“mhm just. catching. my soul. it left my body back there.”
he admires you so much. like he will literally pull out his phone mid-convo and be like “btw, look at my girlfriend” and show everyone a video of you overtaking five dudes uphill like it’s nothing.
“baby slow down you’re gonna hit a poth– OKAY NEVERMIND YOU JUMPED IT.”
is also your #1 mechanic. watches bike maintenance tutorials just to help you. he’s just a little guy in love.
blushes so hard when you ride past him and slap his ass like a demon on wheels.
mikage reo
no one was ready for how obsessed reo became.
spends 10k on a custom gold-accented fixie bike just to “ride with you,” only for you to pop a wheelie and leave him in the dust.
“you didn’t say we were racing!!”
“i wasn’t.”
all jokes aside, he funds your entire cycling wardrobe. aero suits, racing shoes, visors. you’re his little tour de france princess.
and when you ride past random dudes on the street and they try to catcall you? vroooom.
reo’s already catching up like, “say it again i dare you, she’ll run your kneecaps over and i’ll sue your family.”
holds your thigh in his lap when you’re sitting. stares at it like it’s a work of art.
makes out with you every time you “win” a street race. “congrats, babe. now come here.”
kaiser michael
when you met, you were biking uphill, he was jogging downhill, and you blew past him like a gust of wind and yelled, “move it, pretty boy.”
he’s been chasing you ever since.
your thighs haunt him. every time you pedal hard in front of him, it’s a spiritual experience.
“you’re seriously so hot when you almost get hit by a car.”
he also thinks it’s funny when you’re lowkey feral. like he once saw you bark at a car that almost cut you off.
he tells everyone “my girl could outpace your sports car in a school zone.”
buys a scooter just so he can legally ride next to you and hold your hand.
and when you stop in front of a crowd in your helmet, shades, and biker fit?
he just goes, “you guys wish you were her.”
itoshi rin
he hates how attracted he is to you. like he didn’t ask to be whipped.
every time you ride past him in full gear, he just stares.
“you look stupid.”
“you’ve been staring for ten minutes.”
has no idea how to act when you pull up to his games with your helmet under your arm, your thighs all defined and glistening, and you go, “score a goal and i’ll give you a ride after.”
cue him scoring a hat trick.
tries to train with you once. just once.
“we’re going how far?”
“rin, we barely started.”
also he 100% acts unbothered when other people check you out, but you can feel the silent murder vibes from behind his bangs.
you once told a guy off by overtaking him on a tight sidewalk. rin was so proud he kissed you on the spot.
karasu tabito
no thoughts head empty just: “babe, do the spinny leg thing again.”
he takes 100 slow-mo videos of you pedaling and sets them to dramatic music.
“LOOK AT HER QUADS.”
absolutely wears one of your old cycling jerseys like a boyfriend hoodie.
calls himself your water boy. shows up to your rides with snacks and says “hydration is sexy.”
y’all do dumb dangerous races together at night just for the thrill. one time you both almost ate it trying to bunny hop a pothole.
his love language is matching biker gloves.
and he always stands behind you when you stretch because… reasons.
“i respect your athleticism.”
(he’s staring respectfully.)
bachira meguru
street biking duo from hell.
he doesn’t even have a real bike. it’s some janky monster-energy-themed BMX and you’re riding a $3k carbon fiber beast.
but somehow he keeps up???
“it’s all in the legs, babe. and the chaos.”
your dates are late-night races through the city where you both scream at random birds and laugh when you beat red lights.
he draws goofy graffiti of you on buildings: “cyclist demon queen <3” with hearts and flames.
he is genuinely obsessed with your power. like claps when you take off your helmet and your hair flips in slow-mo.
wants pegs on your back tire so he can ride standing behind you like a badass sidekick.
“go, my beloved velociraptor!!!”
“meguru that’s not even the right animal–”
nagi seishiro
he has no idea how you do this for fun.
“you want me to... move my legs?”
absolutely would rather be hit by a car than bike for more than five minutes.
but he watches you ride like he’s watching a goddess in a music video.
you once leaned down to adjust your shoe mid-ride and he was never the same.
when you pull up to his practice to pick him up, he hops on the back like a sleepy little princess.
“wake me when we get there.”
falls asleep with his arms around you while you're riding 30 mph through traffic.
he tells people, “my girlfriend’s thighs are stronger than my will to live.”
and if someone tries to flirt with you while he’s riding behind you?
he just peeks around and goes, “she’ll run you over.”
shidou ryusei
this man fell in love the second he saw you hop a curb, cut off a car, flip the driver off, and speed into the distance like a neon blur.
“nah. that’s the one.”
his love language is biking recklessly with you. weaving between traffic, racing through yellow lights, giggling like a maniac while almost dying.
if someone dares catcall you while you’re riding, he bikes up next to them, stares into their soul, and just smiles.
“wanna lose your kneecaps, dumbass?”
has definitely gotten arrested once or twice for following you into illegal races just to cheer you on.
“baby you looked so sexy eating pavement on that last turn.”
has a shrine in his notes app of all your biker fits. especially when your thighs are peeking out.
and when you call him after a ride, breathless and flushed and laughing?
he’s immediately feral. “pull up to my place. helmet on. nothing else.”
also tries to show off by biking with no hands while texting. hits a trash can.
“worth it.”
itoshi sae
was absolutely unimpressed at first. like, “okay, you ride a bike. i walk.”
then you pulled up in black cycling shorts, slick sunglasses, and passed a speeding car while eating a protein bar.
he literally short-circuited.
he’s not dramatic, but he hasn’t shut up about it since.
“she’s fast. scary fast. and her legs–"
he doesn’t even care about soccer anymore when you’re around. the second you text, “wanna ride?” he’s out the door like, “say less.”
he doesn’t even try to race you. he just watches.
he’s your groupie. your number one simp. the king of “you see my girl?”
“oh, you drive a porsche? my girlfriend rides a bike and could smoke you on a roundabout.”
casually films your sprints and slow-mos your thighs in post with royalty-free music like a whole fan cam.
and when he sees guys stare too long at you mid-ride?
he goes full “i’ll take your eyes out for free” mode. calmly. menacingly.
“look away before she breaks your spine with her calf muscle.”

I want to be lestats make up artist and stylist so baddddd after that trailer.
Imagine touring with him while he constantly tries to woo you.
And the fans just seeing him being flirty toward reader
SOMEBODY TAKE MY PHONE AWAY I AM NOT WELLLLLLLLLLL
Diva | Lestat De Lioncourt x Reader
ෆ lestat is a handful to tour with but he's also incredibly handsome and charismatic.
lmfaooo same, more rockstar lestat coming soon!
Tumblr media
Touring with Lestat De Lioncourt was not the easiest, at least not at first. The number of makeup artists and stylists who accepted the job, before quitting was ridiculous. Everyone was terrified of him, or of making him angry, walking on eggshells around him.
You were a well-known makeup influencer, starting with tutorials, but with your renowned success, you began working with celebrities, doing makeup, or simply styling them. When you were contacted by his manager, offering twice as much as others, explaining he couldn't keep a stylist or makeup artist, you accepted. You had dealt with plenty of other celebrities in the past, with even more diva tendencies, so you weren't going to let some rockstar ruin your coins.
Meeting him, you immediately realized two things, one, he was even more handsome off-screen, and two, he acted as if everyone was insufferable, like he was gracing their presence, doing them a favor.
“Can we get some makeup on him,” the director told you, picking up the pallet and brush, moving to his cheek, he scoffed.
“Does it look like I need makeup?” he asked you, while you rolled your eyes.
“Actually, yes, you could use some lipgloss and highlight,” you said, matching his tone. Everyone grew quiet, watching the interaction. He turned his head, looking at you, before smirking.
“You may,” he said, letting you lift his head, and apply the highlight, before taking a thinner brush and dabbing the tinted lipgloss onto his lips.
“Better?” he asked you.
“Much better,” you grinned, walking away.
“I like her,” he said, adjusting in the chair.
Instantly after, you were offered a contract, the first in nearly twenty artists to be able to lift a brush to his skin, they needed you. As the tour began, he continued with the shenanigans seducing the audience, while managing to keep them terrified.
“Sit still, I hope you don't frown at your fans like that,” you told him, as you clamped the necklace around his neck.
“And who did your hair?”
“He did,” his assistant mumbled.
“I can tell”
“Is something wrong with my hair?” he stared at you through the mirror.
“Nope, it fits you, wild and untamed,” you snickered, as you moved in front of him, using a brush to apply glitter to his face. Using your finger, you rubbed a bit on his chest.
“You know I enjoy when you touch me there, ma chérie,” he said.
“Whatever,” you laughed, finishing his look.
Over the last few months, Lestat became increasingly bold with his flirtation with you. Hell, besides his manager, you're the only person on his team that he talked to, with eye contact.
“They're ready for you,” His assistant said, reading a text from her phone. Standing, Lestat kept his eyes set on you.
“Come, we haven't finished our conversation,” he held out his hand, stopping you as you were about to put away the makeup.
Taking his hand, he led you out of the trailer, his arm going around your neck to pull you closer.
“What is it?” you asked him, biting back your smile.
“Have you thought about my offer?”
After touring the States, he was set to go on a world tour, and he insisted that you renew your contract to come along.
“I don't know, that's a long time, Les,” you said lowly, intertwining your fingers with the hand over your shoulder.
“I’ll need my makeup done and only the best clothing”
“I thought you didn't need makeup?”
“I don't, but only you could do the task so beautifully, I wouldn't dare let one of those amateurs near me,” he frowned.
“Oh my god, there he goes,” a fan screamed, causing an uproar. Lestat remained unfazed, his arm still around you, his eyes unmoving from your face.
“Is that his girlfriend?”
“He has a girlfriend? I thought he was gay”
“No girl, he's bi”
“Then I still have a chance!”
“They're so cute together”
“You’re going to have us in blogs in the morning,” you told him.
“All publicity is good publicity,” he shrugged.
“We’ll talk more later,” you told him, rubbing your lips together, when you realized he was staring at them.
“Hopefully about you staying with me, and not wanting to go home”
“You need to focus on your concert right now, and we can talk later,” you laughed.
“Fine, make sure to scream extra loud for me, ma chérie,” he said, blowing a kiss to you, before walking up the steps, the loud music starting up.
Crossing your arms, you watched as he performed, his aura exuding sex appeal. After all these months of working with him, you could see why he acted as if he was gracing people with his presence. He was more handsome than most, the attention falling on him wherever he went, and here he was, openly desiring you.
Late nights, after he'd come back from doing whatever, he'd come to your hotel rooms. You eventually realized that on the inside of this beautiful man, was a lonely soul. He craved companionship and being around him, you didn't know how much more you could take before you gave into temptation.

Robin being the #1 shipper of these two idiots — a little progress check and a lot of love for the concept
This is a remake of a piece I did a while back — and honestly, the original has always been a bit embarrassing for me. Too many anatomy mistakes, awkward choices… you know how it is when you look back at something old. But despite all that, I’ve always been really fond of the idea behind it. So I decided to bring it back in a way that actually reflects how I draw now — something I could look at and feel proud of.
This time around, I focused a lot on making them feel like themselves. I put extra care into their expressions and gestures so their personalities came through naturally. I wanted that familiar chaos and sweetness between Luffy and Nami to show — and of course, Robin in the background being the ultimate quiet shipper. That’s a little headcanon I’ve always had: she often smiles at their nonsense in the manga, and I like to think she’s secretly rooting for them.
I also pushed myself technically in this one. I tried painting the hair more freely — building it up with brushstrokes and color, no lineart at first. I wanted it to feel loose and natural (hope it shows!). I even had to look up a tutorial to figure out how to paint the ocean hitting the sand — that was a first for me, and I think it turned out pretty okay.
I spent a good while struggling to draw Robin too — turns out I’ve gotten really used to drawing Nami, but not so much other girls lol. Still, I wanted to do it right and see how much I’ve grown. Comparing both versions is super motivating, and honestly? This fanart feels like the version I meant to draw from the start.
Hope you like it!
———————

PHOTOPEA TUTORIAL: RP ICONS/ICON BORDERS !
HOW I USE CLIPPING MASKS && RECTANGLE SELECT TO CREATE MY ICON BORDERS. this post will include framing the rp icon itself, the border around the icon && adding on optional block quotes—also, a bonus how-to for applying patterns to your block quotes and/or icon border; in case you're after some zesty editing !
pictured below is a simple, PRE-MADE icon that we will be attempting to recreate in this tutorial. all you need is a screencap && photopea ! as for the blockquote pattern, it is an optional design / example that i will provide later on in the tutorial ! this tutorial will involve rectangle select & clipping masks and i will cover how to do them both.
Tumblr media
start a New Project, make sure the background is transparent. pick what size you'd like the overall border to be, not the icon itself.
Tumblr media
you should start out with a transparent rectangle, as seen above. for this particular recreation, i've listed the width & height of my standard icon border sizes below. if you don't know, these sizes are determined by pixels.
W: 640 H: 107 i.e., W: 640 pixels H: 107 pixels.
next step: select Layer>New>Layer as seen highlighted below. this new layer is where your icon base will be/your clipping mask will go.
Tumblr media
now that we've added a new layer for the icon base/mask to go, we're going to use rectangle select to set the size of our icon. right click where the yellow highlight(left bar) is pointing in the example below && drag your cursor to expand the "rectangle select" to whatever size icon you want. for this example(as seen below) i've chosen the size 80x80.
Tumblr media
after you've set your desired icon size, you can now drag the selection(you should see a dotted border outlining your selection) to where you'd like your icon to be placed. i personally chose to place mine in the center—i did accidentally forget this step in the tutorial, so don't mind it if you see it move in the next two examples. though not an incredibly important detail, you can always move it after you fill it in !
once you have placed your base, select your brush tool && choose a color(highlighted in yellow, located on the left bar in the example below). you can use whatever color you'd like here, as long as it stands out to you—i usually choose red or green so that it can stand out from the background. once you've picked your color, you're going to color inside of the selection that you've made. don't be afraid to color outside of the lines...the brush will not exceed past what you've selected in advance with your rectangle tool !
Tumblr media
once your base is colored in, you may now de-select your rectangle select tool(right click>deselect).
pictured below is an example of our current progress. as you can see i finally moved my icon to the center.
Tumblr media
this colored shape will be your 'x marks the spot'—it is where your screencap(as a clipping mask) will be going once we finish the border of the icon.
speaking of which, now it's time to create our border ! add a new layer with the same process as before. Layer>New>Layer. name it whatever you'd like. i've simply labeled the new layer as "icon border" because it will be the layer the border goes on. make sure it is on a layer that is separate from the icon base.
Tumblr media
in the "icon border" layer, repeat the rectangle select process outside of each side of your square/icon base. selecting one side at a time, be sure to fill it with the color of your desired border. i will be using a white border, which will be 3 pixels wide on each side. (example is of me expanding the select tool to the preferred pixel height/width outside of the base)
Tumblr media
once you've finished creating a selection && filling each section, you can deselect && should be left with something like this:
Tumblr media
this is optional, of course, but if you'd like you can also make an outer border/border edge. you can do this in a new layer or simply place it on the same layer as the white border. in the example icon at the top of the post, you can see that the icon i made has a gray outline outside of the white border. to do that, simply repeat the rectangle select option; and this time, only select 1 px width of space(or more, depending on how thick you want it/if your border is wider) on the outer edges of the white border. with you're new color(mine being gray as depicted) you can fill each of these edges. here's what we got going on so far !
Tumblr media
now, to add your icon inside of the border! (it doesn't really matter if you do it before or after, just as long as you got your layers right!)
Tumblr media
as you can see, i already added my icon to the base; you can do this before or after you've created your border && border edge. in the image above, the rectangle select you're seeing is an example of where the outer border/edge was filled in with gray. of course, to add your icon, file>open and place>choose your screencap. once your screencap is opened, right click it && once you're met with the drop down, left click the option that says "clipping mask." doing this will give you free reign to zoom in or out and move your icon around(to move it, edit>free transform && drag) all within the confines of the icon base you've created with your selection tool && brush.

now... for optional blockquotes. make sure to start a new layer for your blockquote/s. once again, you're going to use the rectangle select tool; choose the width && height of your blockquote by dragging/expanding the tool with your cursor. i've made my blockquote 2 pixels wide because i prefer them thin—if you would choose wider blockquotes, just expand the selection.
Tumblr media
once selected, fill that selection with the preferred color of your desired blockquotes. most people choose gray or colors relevant to their characters—i will be using red because i will be treating this as a clipping mask, so i can show you how to put a pattern into the blockquotes if you want something that stands out.
Tumblr media
you can see ive put two blockquotes in place. you can choose to move them however you want them, or include both the blockquotes in one layer or seperate layers. i've personally separated mine for this example. (layers bq 1 + bq 2 on the side)
ADDING A PATTERN: do the same thing you did with your screencap...file>open and place>choose image. i will be using this abhorrent little pattern(free to use!) i created for the sake of this tutorial. and just like you did with placing your screencap, right click and select "clipping mask" on the dropdown. again, you can move it, zoom in and out however you please. just make sure the image is lined up with the blockquotes!
Tumblr media
and here's what you should end up with, or something similar !
Tumblr media
EXTRA / ADDING A PATTERN TO YOUR BORDER:
once you've gotten the hang of rectangle select/clipping masks, this part is self explanatory. basically, if you'd like to put a pattern inside your border (this will be the white border you created) you can repeat steps you took to add a pattern to your blockquote, this time placing your clipping mask over the layer with your border.
Tumblr media
and that's pretty much the formula of all formulas for me personally—these tools come in hand for a lot of my editing !

more things you swear by?
Japanese Lingerie.
I swear by Japanese lingerie, especially if you love detailed sets. My body doesn’t suit American-made lingerie now that I’ve lost so much weight, and I learned about Japanese lingerie from r/abrathatfits on my journey to find what suited me. The bras are forward projecting and give me a much better side view. I love buying matching lingerie sets, and the sets I usually go for are lacy and intricate; they’re incredibly well priced for the quality they are, and they fit me the way I like my sets to fit me. Buying lingerie is extremely feminine to me, and I love finding sets that complement my body. I’m still not as secure in my new body as I’d like to be, and good lingerie makes me feel beautiful again.
French Tips.
French tips are my go-to. They look good, they’re low maintenance, they’re universally acceptable, and they look clean. When done right, they make my hands look longer and thinner than they are, and I love that with a thinner white line, they look and feel delicate. I mostly do French mani-pedis; it’s a habit I got into when I first went to Chicago, and it’s served me well, so I doubt I’ll ever stray from it. The nail salon combo is widely accepted to be DND865 and DND473, and I do an acrylic overlay on top of my natural nails, keep an oval shape, and request a thin tip if I’m not doing BIAB again. I won’t get into the acrylic vs. BIAB debate at the moment, but I will say that when properly done, BIAB looks amazing, is better for helping you retain length, and it lasts longer than acrylic while looking better.
Classic Makeup and Flicky Layered Hair.
I love styling my hair and doing my makeup; it’s like a reward for waking up in the morning. I get to sit down, make myself pretty, and enjoy the entire process. I figured it was time to update my skincare and makeup routines once again, so I took the time to start watching makeup tutorials (Uma Jammeh, amazing) and using what products I already have to adapt certain looks to my face. As for hair, I’m obsessed with Sarmadina de Beaute as of late and layers. I think my hair looks best with heavy, flicky layers (Remington curls) if I don’t have the time to do a blowout, and I’ve really embraced the process of both finding styling inspiration and actually doing my hair. I found my ultimate inspiration the other day, ordered hair immediately, and cut and styled one of my synthetic wigs to get the look in the interim, and I’m smitten.
Minimal Jewelry.
I’ve always worn minimal jewelry; I’m a major fan of Cartier, and I’ve curated a small collection that I wear nearly every day. I love accessorizing, but I don’t like wearing a million things that have no meaning; I prefer to only wear things I love or things that have a story behind them. Gold is my metal and diamonds are my jewel. I prefer this combo over all of the other combos I’ve seen or worn before, but I also occasionally wear mother of pearl when the time is right. I dislike being weighed down by poorly made pieces; I think jewelry can be used as a statement (when needed), and putting thought into what I wear and what I want my jewelry to say has saved me a lot of misery. With the exception of my charm necklace or lavaliere necklace, I try to wear the same sets every day.
Lymphatic Massages and Red Light Therapy.
Now that it’s November and the weather is soon to turn cold again, I’m much more focused on cardio and my diet. Because I’ve filled my weekday mornings with Pilates and my afternoons with the elliptical and stairmaster, I’ve added lymphatic drainage massages and red light therapy to my weekend schedule. I’ll be in Europe, on the slopes, in the freezing cold for the majority of my winter break, and I’m preparing for that now. Lymphatic massages are a lifesaver for me, especially during allergy season, and full-body red light therapy is just an additional benefit. I’ve also switched from studio yoga to hot yoga and from the steam room back to the sauna, stopped drinking coffee, and really started focusing on increasing my flexibility.
Tinting, Tanning, and Toning.
I love having dark skin already, but I do tend to go wild with the self-tanning in the winter. In my mind, there’s nothing more beautiful than dark skin against white snow, and the darker I am, the better I look. I grew up being told that I was too dark, but I’ve embraced it. I’m proud of my skin, and I love the richness of it, and I use tanner as a way to cover up the scarring on my body and contour my face. As for tinting, I tint my brows and lashes darker than I normally would in the colder months because they don’t turn over or fade as quickly. I never ever tint my eyebrows jet black; that color is far too harsh for my face, and I can’t pull it off at all. I use the darkest brown on my brows and jet black on my lashes. When it comes to toning, I spray my entire body with the Ordinary’s glycolic acid and let it dry after showering for the best results. I swear by it for clearing body acne and preventing any body odor.
It’s similar but different.

Needle Lace Resources
This is a very long post, so I'm including a cut.
Tutorial-like Things, Others' Work
An overview of the stages of needle lace (specifically learning from Alençon, I believe. They link to a documentary type of video on Alençon lace): https://www.taixtile.com/needle-lace-first-steps/. This blog has links to other resources (one link is broken, if I recall correctly).
A very approachable first project, I think. From a lace maker who has done very cool illustrations with lace, Maggie Hensel-Brown: https://youtu.be/OLuRpJ96p4Q?si=gqBWqYxa755gFozr
This channel has videos of the stages of needle lace making. They specifically demonstrate Irish lace, I believe. But the stages are very similar to or the same as the stages in Alençon lace. https://youtu.be/dZVagIFCnLc?si=d8lRnPsmz5iTM0Z_
Pierre Fouché has a video about making dense filling stitches and even doing short rows to makes curves (something I tried but did not yet succeed at): https://youtu.be/DK5cMQND3b8?si=qySmT9yaoTcpsUV9 He also does really cool bobbin lace illustrations by constructing patterns in cell-like units.
An embroiderer tries needle lace in two videos. In one of them she tries different styles from different places: https://youtu.be/eTO7dA4oyl4?si=VInx35kql115bIIo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A9Wa6-Qf5xw
Example of a different style of needle lace. Unsure what it is exactly. Some sort of cut work or reticella, idk: https://youtube.com/shorts/7DFogWC3tDI?si=uju74sPFbRj3_wrn
Sampler directions: https://youtu.be/oDKBfjDYBnU?si=shQYvaT4kAZD7BgV
Again, a more geometric style of needle lace. I don’t know the particulars of this style (styles?), since I’ve mostly been looking into styles similar to Alençon because I’m aiming for more illustration-like lace. This channel has multiple videos demoing and explaining that process: https://youtu.be/gJd6mkrsUCQ?si=AfVIiwljHvfismrX https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R6dk721UwW4
Not so much instructions but video of a very skilled lacemaker working on a project: https://youtu.be/01H2GdEXLrs?si=2suFHSG4Kwa6Yl2m
Another lacemaker's work on their blog. I don’t know if they do as much lace making as they do other needle arts https://www.robesdecoeur.com/blog/needlelace-my-work-so-far
A lacemaker's work... the site is older and kind of tricky to navigate. Like. there's no home button, as far as I can tell. Album of their work: https://www.lacemakerslace.oddquine.co.uk/album/index.html Home page, I think: https://www.lacemakerslace.oddquine.co.uk/
Useful/Interesting Things to Know
Alençon lace -- specific French style from the Alençon region, which has a history of point lace and a current institution dedicated to preserving the skills and producing lace. This is the style that I was looking at examples of to try and learn from.
Search terms like different styles of lace that I’m not qualified to talk about but you can look into and do research on: Battenburg, point de gaze (very very fine work, like gauze)… More to be added as I learn about them.
The terms "needle lace" and "point lace" are both used to refer to lace made with a needle. I'm unclear on if there are subtle distinctions between them or if it's simply a matter of location. But having versions of a search query for both terms should help find more results than just using one.
Encyclopedia of Needlework by Therese De Dillmont is an excellent resource to learn how to do different stitches. It seems these stitches mostly come from Irish lace, according to the book. HTML copy of book available on Project Gutenberg here: https://www.gutenberg.org/files/20776/20776-h/20776-h.htm I recommend using ctrl+f to search for "lace stitch" on the page. The end of each chapter in the HTML version seems to have a link to the Table of Contents that is at the end of the entire document. It has chapters for plenty of other needle arts, so it's a good resource all around.
If you want to find examples of needle lace, look on Wikimedia Commons! Using a variety of search terms will help you find more material for inspiration/observation than otherwise
If you want to design your own needle lace depicting objects, it might be worth looking at stained glass to see how larger shapes are broken up into smaller shapes that still feel complete.
You can use multiple colors! Let yourself use multiple colors, like stained glass!
Thoughts from the Learning Process So Far (some terminology used here, look them up so you know what the actual definitions are, but I’ll define what I mean by them)
Tacking vs Couching... I'm unsure about the actual definitions so I may be using them wrong here. In the videos I’ve seen tacking seems to be making a stitch that runs along the way the cordonnet will run. Couching seems to be just when the thread that secures the cordonnet comes up through the backing and goes down through the backing at the same point. With these definitions… Tacking went faster for me than doing couching, but it feels a lot less secure and precise for the form of lace I’m making. Unless I made the tacking stitches perpendicular to the cordonnet's path, the outline cord moved too much due to tension. If it's perpendicular and not a very short stitch, it might get in the way of your filling stitches or binding off stitches. Which might be fine, since you pull them out anyways. But it would also mean more holes in the backing, and at some point the holes are too close together and might tear the backing and pattern. I don't like that. Couching—much, MUCH more tedious for me because I’m not practiced at making the needle come up in exactly the right spot. but it feels more secure to me. The outline seems to be less affected by tension as you work. And I took some shortcuts for couching that helped. I don’t couch the doubled cord, instead I whip stitch back over the already-secured cord. I might make a post to demonstrate what I mean. It kind of messes with the shape/placement of my cordonnet, but for the sake of my impatience I’m willing to sacrifice the precise shape.
Backing material... To use fabric in backing like the instructions usually say, or not? Idk. For me, it’s hard to find the right hole for the couching stitches when I can't see my pattern from the back. It took a lot of trial and error until I got a feel for how to predict where my needle would come up. I don't like the way the poke-and-check method of stitching the cordonnet down tends to rip the pattern up (at least, with my easy-to-access materials. Probably better with better materials and more practice. Using my thumb to find approximately the right spot helped, but not enough). So I just used a sandwich of tape/paper/tape as my backing. If you're willing to fuss around with fabric in your backing, it might make it easier to remove the couching threads after you're done, and when I tried. The directions I've seen usually say to use a backing of doubled-up fabric, clay paper (I'm unsure what this is. might be a thicker paper than cardstock, or it might be paper made to contain clay particles. Probably more like the first option), and contact paper. My last attempt at making a backing used notebook paper (or other type of paper) with packaging tape on both sides to provide a smooth surface and structure. I think it worked fairly well, and I didn't have to figure out where to buy contact paper (or figure out exactly what contact paper was).

dad!miguel headcanons 🕷️
Tumblr media
dad!miguel who always prepared gabi’s lunch in a hello kitty thermo (if he made her sopa de letras, her fav) or a hello kitty sandwich box because he knew how excited his little girl would be when she’d see how her lunch was packaged
dad!miguel who would write cute little messages or corny dad jokes on little post it notes with whatever sweet treat he’d leave her
“How does a penguin build its house?” he wrote on one side then flips it over to write the answer
“Igloos it together.” he signs it with “te amo<3” then rereads his joke to laugh at it before sticking it to a rice krispie
dad!miguel would definitely know how to do gabi’s hair (because he would do absolutely anything for her) so when she asked if he could do elsa’s braid you can bet your ass he searched up easy tutorials on youtube
dad!miguel who will make or buy whatever snack gabi may crave, have it be chicharrones, brownies, or a popsicle de gansitos, he will make sure she gets whatever she asks for
dad!miguel who would sing gabi to sleep, songs ranging from lullabies to boleros to vicente fernadez’s whole discography
dad!miguel that signs her up to whatever her little heart desires. an art class? say less. ballet? he’ll sprint to buy the shoes
dad!miguel who accidentally falls asleep on the couch after watching barbie movies with gabi
extra points knowing he’d be sitting legs spread, head against the cushion with his mouth wide open letting out the loudest of snores imaginable which would just make gabi giggle in shock
dad!miguel who’d get drunk at the neighbor’s kid’s birthday party and be one of those mexican dads to be singing so obnoxiously but somehow sounding not so bad
“le dedicó esta para mi niña hermosa.”
cue piel canela playing and dad!miguel snatching the mic from one of the tios
he tries to find gabi through drunken eyes but once he spots her in her bright pink dress he sings to her, pointing to her when the lyrics say “me importas tu y tu y tu y solamente tu.”
gabi with wide, glossy eyes watching her papi give her yet another serenata because she was spoiled rotten in all aspects, this being one of them because she loved his singing
dad!miguel who would call up his friend’s mariachi early in the morning on gabi’s birthday but ask the favor that he can sing for her instead because he always wants her day to extra special
