The four most recurring points of problems with your partner due to ADHD
↪ Communication: It derives, in part, from a lack of social skills. This can interfere with proper communication for the relationship.
↪ Sensitivity: They can be easily offended, angry and hurt by any kind of change in their environment.
↪ Impulsivity: Lack of impulse regulation and the ability to stop and think before acting can have an impact on the relationship.
↪ Dysfunction: Problems related to organization, planning and memory. This can create lack of trust and disappointment.

Hi I'm new here and I'm a 43 year old adult living with adhd I have been struggling to help my significant other about ADHD and how ADHD affects relationships and have failed miserably. He recently stated that he wanted to take a break and his reasoning or examples he gave he didn't realize were ADHD TRAITS. Can anyone recommend anything I can use to help him understand things about being in a relationship with someone who has been diagnosed with ADHD. It has definitely put a strain on our relationship? Thanks in advance

Once upon a time there lived a princess
She neither had a kingdom nor was an heiress
But she always called herself a princess
She was witty, sarcastic and rude,
But also generous and kind (seldom)
She had a few friends, even when she seemed to be chatty much
All her friends called her a princess and she was happy
The demon of divergence attacked her mind palace a time ago
And the princess was worried much,
She began going far, far away
When asked why she just smiled and said so,
Alas everyone's memory must have shrunk!
She drifted apart and distanced herself
And now the princess stays awake all night, guarding her mind palace
Oh, that's why she seemed to be always sleepy?

reminder that the only reason the "ADHD is actually demigod BATTLE STRATEGIES" and "dyslexia is DEMIGOD BRAINS HARDWIRED FOR ANCIENT GREEK" things exist in the PJO universe is because it's a very direct reference to early 2000s teaching/parenting techniques for neurodiverse and disabled children, which aimed to frame childrens' disabilities and hardships as a "superpower" or strength so that the children would feel more positively about their disabilities or situations. This technique has fallen out of favor since then for the most part since more often than not it just results in kids feeling as though their struggles are not being seen or taken seriously.
Yes, demigods are adhd/dyslexic (and sometimes autistic-coded) in the series. This is extremely important and trying to remove it or not acknowledge it makes the entire series fall apart because it is such a core concept. Yes, canon claims that their adhd/dyslexia is tied to some innate abilities, which is based on an outdated methodology. It's important to acknowledge that and understand where it comes from! But please stop trying to apply it to other pantheons in the series like "oh, the romans have dyscalculia because of roman numerals!" or "the norse demigods have dysgraphia for reasons!" - it's distasteful at best.
A better option is to acknowledge the meta inspiration for why that exists in the series, such as explaining potentially that Chiron was utilizing that same teaching methodology to try and help demigods feel more comfortable with their disabilities and they aren't literal powers. In fact, especially given Frank, there's implication that being adhd/dyslexic isn't a guaranteed demigod trait, which means it's more likely to be normally inherited from their godly parent/divine ancestor as a general trait, not a power, and further supports the whole "ADHD is battle strategy" thing being non-literal. It also implies the entire greco-roman pantheon in their universe is canonically adhd/dyslexic - and that actually fits very well with the themes of the first series. The entire central conflict of the first series fits perfectly as an allegory about neurodiverse/disabled children and their relationships with their undiagnosed neurodiverse/disabled parents and trying to find solutions together with their shared disability/disabilities that the kid inherited instead of becoming distant from each other (and this makes claiming equivalent to getting a diagnosis which is a fascinating allegory! not to mention the symbolism of demigods inheriting legacies and legends and powers from their parents and everything that comes with that being equivalent to inheriting traits, neurodiversity, and disabilities from your parents).
anyways neurodiversity and disability and the contexts in which the series utilizes representation of those experiences particularly during the 2000s symbolically within the narrative is incredibly important to the first series and the understanding of what themes it means to represent. also if i see one more "the romans have dyscalculia instead of dyslexia" post in 2023 i'm gonna walk into the ocean.

6 PM and Eddie was in full story mode, gesturing wildly as he made himself a bowl of soup.
It was nothing fancy, just some canned chicken noodle that Steve had stuck his nose up at.
Then sniffed dramatically when Eddie had popped it in the microwave.
(Considering It was an after work snack, Eddie didn't take offense to his boyfriend's rich-boy sensitivities.)
"Then Brandon, the asshole, pulls in this ancient Jeep. Swears he checked it out before he bought it." He's still in his shop clothes, too busy going through his day to change.
"Did he actually though? Noooo." Eddie drawled out, fetching a spoon and setting the warmed bowl on the counter.
"Wasn't he the guy who just bought that truck?" Steve asked from his spot on the couch. He had beaten Eddie home, a rare accomplishment for him on a Wednesday.
Eddie spun, spoon in hand. "The one with the bad engine? Yes!"
"At least the color wasn't bad."
"It was banana yellow." With a scoff, Eddie put the can in the sink, picked up his bowl, and threw it in the trash.
He made it two entire steps forward before he froze, eyes growing wide.
“Stevie.” Eddie whispered, his entire body slumping dramatically. “Stevie, I threw away my soup.”
Trying (and utterly failing) not to laugh, Steve said, “I know. I watched you do it."
Entire face falling into a heart wrenching pout, Eddie looked between Steve and the sink.
"I wanted that." He said pathetically.
"Do you want me to make you soup?" Steve asked, voice teasing.
"Please?" Eddie's eyes worked over time, as he slunk his way over to his boyfriend. He dropped to his knees, putting his chin on one of Steve's thighs. "Pretty please?"
Steve flushed scarlet, eyes darting to Wayne and back. He was working on accepting Eddie's more theatrical displays of affection in front of others, but didn't shove Eddie away.
Told him he would never.
Not even when it was in front of Eddie's bandmates, who still eyed Steve with distrust.
"Would you like some too Wayne?"
Pretending not to smile from his ancient armchair, Wayne hummed. "Long as it's no trouble."
"Not at all." Steve pushed at Eddie's head, prompting the other boy to back away as Steve got to his feet.
Quickly, Eddie stole his boyfriend's spot on the couch, basking in the vacated warmth.
"I'm adding veggies along with everything else. No complaining!" Steve called as he began pulling open cabinets.
"I'd never dream of it." Eddie called back, batting his eyelashes even though Steve couldn't see it.
"If he does, I'll just eat his portion. Boy can go to bed hungry if he doesn't appreciate that cookin of yours." Wayne added, in his own teasing twang.
"Suck up." Eddie fired back, sticking out his tongue.
From the kitchen, Steve turned to hide his grin.
