A consistent theme of this show is exploring how people react when they are pushed past their limits, and it’s something we saw a lot of in this episode in particular. The two women getting into a fight in the waiting room, the man blowing up and then punching Dana, McKay seemingly going over Robby’s head and reporting the kid with a hit list, Mel shutting down after that little girl died. Hell, this show opened with Robby having to talk a colleague off of a literal ledge. And so now we’re seeing it with Langdon too—after a day of Santos defying orders at every turn, being second guessed constantly by an intern, and then losing a little kid, he just completely lost it. Understandable? Definitely. But that still doesn’t make it okay. Langdon’s outburst went way beyond the realm of reprimanding a subordinate —he yelled at and berated Santos on a deeply personal level in front of a room full of colleagues, not to mention a patient. And that doesn’t make him irredeemably evil or a terrible mentor, and I don’t think this show is in anyway trying to villainize him and woobify Santos or vice versa, but people are not perfect and they make mistakes and they can have extreme emotional reactions in high stress environments. It makes them human. That’s the whole point of the show imo

DC Pet Peeve is when Batfanon people act like Bats are capable of keeping up with Supers. They always attribute this to Bats being smarter than Supers, and therefore make it seem like Supers are dumb as rocks. Jon learnt chess and mastered it enough to beat Lex Luthor in 7 seconds. He can perform micro-surgeries inside a person's brain mid-air. Clark, Paige and Kara are older, wiser, and have more experience. Kryptonite would weaken them but depending on the amount, they can recover from green kryptonite and they aren't useless without their powers either.

In their peak form, a Bat is nothing but a flimsy tissue paper to them. I don't think you are really sitting down and thinking about what it means to be faster than sound, to have the strength to move planets, breath glaciers and shoot the fire of the sun out of their eyes.

And even among the non-kryptonians, you've got the Steels who are geniuses on par with Lex and Bruce. Their tech is highly advanced and JH is from a military background and combats regularly with threats like freaking Mongul and Darkseid. A bat's gonna not look all that great coming out of a fight with the Steels.

The best a Bat can do is survive a Super. In canon, every time a Super is going all out, the ENTIRE Justice League has to come together to contain them with multiple losses. And that's usually just for one kryptonian Super (typically Clark). You're telling me Bruce, Tim, Dick or Damian ALONE can keep up with that???? PLEASE

I'm not asking you to do it retroactively, but would you consider tagging or mentioning the fic rating? I like to read the fics here if the summaries interest me, but I don't read smut and sometimes it's hard to tell if a fic is explicit just from the summary, and then I have to guess if it's a risky click or not. (Also, you've probably been told this, but it's spelt "author", no extra "u".)

I am definitely considering including fic ratings, but I can't do it without figuring out what's important to you guys.

I find the Gen, Teen, Explicit, Mature rating pretty much useless, given how I use AO3. I generally want hurt/comfort, and the explicitness of the sex and violence has very little effect on my experience. If the majority of you guys think those ratings would be helpful, I'm glad to include them!

The archive warnings are more helpful to me, but very limited. Especially in the current fandom (and world) culture, "rape", "underage sex", "death", and "graphic violence", seems like a problematic set to restrict warnings to. On AO3, we have additional tags to round things out, and make it seem less like a morality statement. I'd be restricted to a set list, here. (Just for my sanity's sake.) If I was doing warnings, I'd at least want to add "horror", "unhappy ending", and "unreality/unreliable narrator". I'd want to include major things that are likely to upset readings, not just things that Americans use in their "protect the children" rants.

I'd also have to figure out how to handle fic from Tumblr, or written pre-2010, which are likely to be missing warnings.

Any advice, guys?

I'm Canadian, and grew up with American spell-check being shoved down my throat. (British spell-check is not better. I've tried. We actually have distinct rules here and nobody respects us >:( ) I have been re-adding "u"s to words my whole life.

Sure, maybe "author" hasn't had a "u" in ... a very long time. (Wiktionary lists the spelling as "obsolete", which is apparently "stronger than" "archaic" or "dated".) But I am now ATTACHED to this hypercorrection! I am rebelling against the hegemony of American (and British) spellings! Rebellion doesn't have to be "correct"!

Basically, I know it's wrong, and while originally it was an innocent hypercorrection, I'm now doing it on purpose ;)
