there’s this recurring theme when it comes to regulus of him watching his life pass him by, being on the outside and not knowing how to participate etc but what if one day he wakes up and he’s Literally invisible…like no one can see him anymore and regulus is just like….whatever not much has changed it’s fine….it’s going to fix itself soon…except by doing nothing about it people quickly start to forget who he is, and the more people forget about him the more tired and weak he becomes….and he realizes he has to do Something or he will fade out of existence completely & forever
#and then he does something and someone remembers. or he dies idk i haven’t thought that far#maybe at some point there is one person who suddenly starts to notice him when they never have before...#and this person is like..woah that ghost is new…wait why is he walking..?#and then. wait that’s regulus black. why is he a ghost IS HE DEAD????#so they go talk to him and help him. somehow. i don’t know how. i don't even know what turned him invisible in the first place#my jegulus tunnel vision wants this person to be james but i think it also works with anyone who Wasn't his friend#like i feel like it Has to be someone who didn't really notice him before/didn't care about him. and this is why i think james is perfect#but also. what if regulus just. gives up. he thinks even if he were to come back it wouldn’t change a thing so he stays invisible and#lets people forget him and he fades away without anyone even knowing. because no one remembers him#choose your ending i guess!#regulus black#marauders#jegulus#i guess. only in the tags

part two of that one drabble where reader has a poltergeist friend
[back]
"So, you're telling me that... you... basically live with a ghost?" Colby asked, trying to comprehend the situation right infront of him.
Looking at the floor, cheeks red by the sheer embarassment you felt for some reason, you nodded.
"That's... the coolest shit I've heard AND seen!" Sam exclaimed, clearly excited by the thought of this whole situation. "We're sorry if we're being too pushy over this, it's just... it's a first, you now?"
"Yeah, no, it's alright. I get it, I think." You chuckled. "It's just that... no one really knows about... this."
"But why haven't you told anyone? I would go crazy if a friend of mine told me about this." Colby commented.
"Well... you know, it's not the same. You guys are used to it. Meanwhile... what do you think a normal person would think if I say something around the lines of 'oh I have a ghost friend that moves things around in my house'? I don't think they might... uh... think about it as cool."
"Oh. I see your point. You're right." He laughed and you nodded.
"Still, not even a friend or something of the sorts?" Sam asked. "I'm sorry, it just sounds like something that would for sure be viral."
"No... I haven't told anyone about it. The attention might not be worth it if i can't hang out with her."
A draft of air passed through them, which made them shiver. Soon enough, a lamp started flickering.
"Woah! Holy shit!" Sam smiled, amazed at how in queue everything seemed. "It's almost hard to believe even though it's so obvious."
"Yeah, it's why I don't talk about it."
The same notepad that threw you into this mess began moving towards the guys through the table. Their expressions making you giggle; it was a once in a lifetime where you could finally talk about this one piece of your life to someone, and it felt good.
Another object started moving, a pencil. As if it was some sci-fi movie magic, it began writing on the paper.
"You've got to be kidding me." Colby expressed, unable to wipe off the smile from his face whilst looking at this unexplainable evidence of paranormal activity.
It seemed to be writing... no. Drawing something? It looked like a heart...? Wait.
"OH, NO!" You yelled, frantically taking the notepad onto your possession. You knew what she was trying to do, and you weren't going to let them see it.
She argued otherwise it seemed, as you kept on fighting this invisible force for a piece of paper. The force suddenly stopped and you were left with no balance to hold yourself up, gaining a first class ticket towards the hard floor.
As much as they wanted to laugh at how weird this whole situation was, they were still worried. Hurriedly standing up and walking towards you, asking if you were alright.
Luckily you were, since it wasn't that bad of a fall anyways. They helped you up and you grabbed onto the notepad, noticing some new words written underneath the unfinished piece of art.
"You're welcome."
That bitch. She knew what you wanted; and you were debating yourself if you were glad or frustrated.
Perhaps it was both.
i'll make it a decent fanfic soon enough, i just need to throw out some things beforehand

Snowed Confession
Ethan Landry x Male Reader
Non-ghost face, Ethan, Quinn and reader are Canadian
Word count: 1.2k
Walking into the hallways you hear cheers around you, celebrating winter break is finally here, Christmas, snow and the best two weeks off school, in one week you and your two best friends Quinn and Ethan are flying back to Canada for Christmas.
So your other friends decide to make this week the best week before leaving, “we should go skiing” chad said. “I’ve never done that in my entire life” you said “don’t you live in the good ‘ol north” mindy said sitting down next to anika.
“Yeah and I used to ride the polar bear bus to go to my igloo school” you sarcastically replied flipping mindy off “woah, where’s the Canadian hospitality” Tara joked “I will drown you in maple syrup” you said in a dead tone. “Oh come on it’ll be fun please” chad said dragging the please.
“Fine but I want Ethan to sit next to me” you said opening your phone. “Ohh and why is that?” anika asked, making her eyebrows go up and down. You throw a pillow in her face “Ethan is the only civilized person in this friend group, he doesn’t drool, he doesn’t take up that much space and he keeps to himself” you said listing reasons why you want Ethan.
That went on for a couple minutes “and that’s why ethan is the best person to have next to you when you go for a road trip” you finished your rant “Jesus just marry him at that point” Quinn added.
Everybody was focused on you and barely saw how Ethan’s face blushed the whole time you were ranting, he knew the only reason you want to sit next to him is cause he lets you sleep on him.
Chad coughed “well that’s it then we’ll go for a ski trip in the next week, let’s leave Thursday so we’ll have the whole weekend to ski” Chad proposed, everyone agrees.
Thursday comes around faster than you thought “come one Y/N they’re waiting” Anika groans on how you’ve been quadruple checking everything, “just go down I’ll be right behind you I have to make sure the windows are closed” you said going into each room to check.
You hear the door slam close, when you hear it slam close again, confused you check the main room you see Ethan standing there.
You had a confused look on you “why are you here” you asked triple making sure you had keys on you and lights were off. “It’s time to go Y/N,” Ethan said, grabbing your suitcase and walking to the door.
Being forced to leave you lock your door and walk downstairs seeing mindy and Anika in the car.
Ethan helps put your luggage in the back watching you. “Oh my god finally what took you so long” Mindy asked hitting her head on the steering wheel “I had to make sure we weren’t going to get robbed” you said as Ethan got in the car after you.
Ethan puts his hands on his face trying to get rid of the cold “it doesn’t matter just tell Chad we’re ready to go” he said smiling at you finally the car started and both your vehicle and chads start driving.
You groaned loud “why, New York why do you hate us” complaining about the New York traffic. “Just go to sleep on me I’ll wake you up when we’re close” Ethan suggested. Throwing two melatonin pills in your mouth you were passed out before anyone knew.
Mindy looked at you and Ethan sleeping “how does Ethan sleep when Y/N is snoring into his ear” she asked Quinn “I don’t know they’ve always been like that” she replied continuing to text her boy toy.
Anika looked back at the two of you “I don’t know I think it’s cute” she said smiling, causing Mindy to look back at the two “cute?? Y/N is literally drooling on Ethan’s shoulders” Mindy said looking at her girlfriend.
“Can you guys shut up and let us sleep?” Ethan said, flipping up the eye mask before laying his head on yours.
Before you knew it you were awoken by Ethan with gentle slaps to your face “we’re here idiot” he said wiping the drool off his shoulder with a tissue.
You looked at what he was doing realizing “sorry about that, your shoulders are really comfortable I guess”. You answered, taking a step out of the car and stretching, people passing by would think you’re trying to grab the air.
All of your friends grab their luggage and you all walk into the resort “hey yeah we spoke on the phone a couple hours ago my name Chad Meeks-Martin” he asked the receptionist.
She typed on the computer “three hotel rooms for three days” she asked Chad nods Chad gives you a key card “that's for you and Ethan quinn didn’t want to share a room with you two so she got her own room” he said walking away.
Chad gathers your friend group “ok so all of our rooms are basically together except for Quinn’s” you followed Chad walking in your hotel to see one bed. You and Ethan looked at each other.
You both settle your stuff on the floor and you jump on the bed and pass out for another three hours.
You look at the window to realize it was night time and you felt Ethan pull your body “good morning” Ethan joked at you feeling you wake up as he falls asleep again.
You lay in bed feeling Ethan’s arm come around your waist again “come closer, please” he said and you lay your head on his chest and fall asleep.
You two wake up because of a pounding at your door you open to see Chad “have you guys seen outside” he said barging in “what happening” Ethan asked being drowsy.
“It’s a complete blizzard outside” Chad said “our weekend getaway turned into weekend stay in a hotel” he said putting his hand in his face, “calm down Chad, did you check the forecast when is the blizzard going away” you asked sitting next to him.
“Saturday..” Chad said in his hands “Chad it's Friday, it’ll clear out tomorrow and we can ski tomorrow” Ethan spoke rubbing his back “you guys are right, I should go to Tara” Chad said exiting your room.
“Wow, he’s a bit dramatic” you said as the door closed “yeah and he's not even the gay one it’s you” Ethan joked getting a pillow to his face “let’s just go down stairs for breakfast” you said grabbing his hands.
You saw Mindy and Anika down there deciding to join them “you two are dating right” Mindy asked.
Getting you and ethan to choke on your food “no, why” you asked “cause you two are like me and anika” Mindy said “I mean it’s not like I wouldn’t mind” you confessed ethan looked at you with the biggest smile.
“I love you Y/N” he said, you stare at his beautiful curls and most amazing pair of brown eyes “I love you too Ethan” you confessed.
Maybe being snowed in wasn’t so bad you two thought.

This One Stays
Officially starting my career as a writer, just a little thing I wrote for Halloween (yes I realize how late this is). Hope you enjoy👍🏾
Synopsis: Brooke recalls the best day of her life, which turns out to have been the worst, and the last
Word count: 1.8k
Warnings: blood, vampires, manipulation, false memories, death, stalking(let me know if there’s anything else)
“Hey, Brooke! Come on, it’s time to rehearse my entrance! I don’t know about you, but I will not be falling flat on my face in these heels tomorrow.”
“I’ll be up in a sec Isa!” I crouched down to get a picture of a butterfly outside the window. I had seen this same butterfly for a couple of days now. A beautiful opal on its wings, outlined by white strokes, as if an artist had painted it. It almost looked unnatural.
“That’s weird”, I muttered to myself. The picture came out perfectly, almost. There was some kind of distortion. Not like an average blurry picture, everything else was clear. What’s weird is that this has been going on for a couple of days. This is a brand new camera, the newest model, and I just cleaned it before I saw the butterfly. I wonder-
“Brooke! Come on, now!” Isabel always was impatient. “Where were you? It’s been five minutes. I know you aren’t the most athletic person, but come on, it’s one flight of stairs.”
“That’s not why I took forever”, I said, rolling my eyes. “I was taking a picture of this butterfly outside the window, but part of the photo came out blurry. It doesn’t make any sense, Isa.”
“Well, maybe you just had a shaky hand when you took it. It is pretty cold downstairs during this time. Or maybe there was a smudge on the camera, after all, when was the last time you cleaned it?”
“You know it hasn’t been out of the case today until I got here.”
“Yeah, ten whole minutes ago. A lot can happen in that time.”
At the time I just laughed at her. Ten minutes is the time it takes to get from her house to mine. Ten minutes is the time it takes me to walk around the neighborhood. Ten minutes was all it took for everything to fall apart…
The day after the butterfly photo was Isabel’s birthday, and it was time for her party. We were up in her room waiting for her cue to enter. She had a sparkly red dress, blood red. I can remember the sparkles and frills vividly. Off the shoulders and just above the knees, showing off her almond skin. I was wearing a black dress, simple really. Off the shoulders like Isa’s, but without sparkles, longer, and form-fitting.
“Alright Isa, I’m gonna head down so I can get some pictures of the party before you come down.”
“Alright, can you set aside a cup and lid for me? I don’t want to spill any of the juice on my dress and ruin it.” Ruin her dress? Her dress was expensive, so I can understand not wanting to spill anything on it, but staining it? Why would she be worried about that?
“Brooke, you there?”
“Yeah, just zoned out a little. I’ll see you down there in a couple of minutes.” Going down the stairs, the music got louder and louder, I’m surprised there hasn’t been a noise complaint yet. There were tons of people dancing, eating, drinking, and just having fun. Some people were in costume, others were dressed nicely. Thankfully everyone followed the dress code, or else Isa would-
“Woah, oh my gosh I’m so sorry.” I had bumped into a blur of blue. A tall, beautiful blur of blue. He was perfect, pale like a ghost with long, silky black hair. Shoulder length, pulled into a ponytail with some strands framing his face. His face, so pretty, ethereal. It was like a glow was emitting off of him-
“Miss? You’re staring.” Crap.
“No, I’m not staring. Just, admiring your costume”, I said matter of factly. Of course I was staring, who wouldn’t? If you saw what I saw, you’d be staring too.
“Admiring my costume, meaning the couple of stitches I painted on my face, and with my face being attractive, I can say you were definitely admiring. Just not my costume.”
I puffed my cheeks in annoyance. “Okay, you caught me. I was mesmerized by thou’s striking beauty.”
“Why thank you, my fair maiden. Though I fear I have nothing on the magnificent beauty that goes by the name…” He quirked an eyebrow, waiting for a response.
“Brooklyn, but everyone calls me Brooke.” He takes my hand in his and bends down to kiss it.
“I’m Felix, but my friends call me Felix.” Charismatic and a sense of humor, this man must’ve stepped right out of a book, because there’s no way this is happening right now. My heart is racing and my skin is heating up, is this what blushing feels like? I’ve never been more thankful for my dark skin.
We just hit it off. We danced, we talked, we laughed. It was like we had known each other our whole lives. He even helped me take some pictures of the party, and he was great at it. Crisp photos of Isabel’s entrance, cute shots of the decor, and candid shots of unsuspecting partygoers. Before we knew it, the party was over and it was time to clean up.
“You know you didn’t have to help clean. I could’ve done it myself.” We had finished everything. It was like no one had been in the house today at all. We grabbed our coats and began to head out.
“It was nothing. I clean all the time. It helps with my peace of mind, keeps me from going insane.” We both laughed at that. “Can I take you home?”
“Yeah, just let me go upstairs to say bye to Isab-”
“No! There’s no need to do that. Some friends of hers told me that they went to check on her earlier and she was out like a light.” I didn’t think much about it, didn’t notice how nervous he suddenly looked, how urgent it seemed that I didn’t check in on Isabel.
“Okay, yeah, sure.”
“I just heard that she does not like being woken up.”
“Well, you would be right. You might’ve just saved my skin there.” We walked towards his car side by side. He smelled good, a nice earthy smell, with a hint of something. Metal, maybe. Interesting, he didn’t smell like that earlier. What’s more, when we get in the car I’m hit by a wave of that same scent. Overall, he was a good driver. He drove with one hand on the wheel and kept a good conversation.
“Hey, do you mind taking a little detour, I wanna show you something.” He said it with a smirk, a pretty one. On a regular day, I would’ve said no. On a regular day, I wouldn’t have even gotten in the car with a man I just met. But something about him was so compelling. I couldn’t resist him. One look in his eyes and I was hooked.
“Yeah, no problem. I’d love to go.” A little while after, we pulled up to a cliff and parked. It was pretty secluded, with a beautiful view of the stars and the city below. I get out of the car and head towards the edge. I can hear him walking up behind me, so I turn towards him and we make eye contact. He smiles, but… there’s something different. Before, he was charming, comforting. Now, it seems like something’s wrong; like it’s forced.
“Felix, is everything okay?” He started getting closer, like a predator looking at his prey. Every step he took towards me I took two back.
“Yeah, everything’s great. But I think I should be asking you that question.” He reached out to me and grabbed my arm. It was harsh, sure to leave a bruise. He pulled me towards him and walked us behind the car. The trunk was open and inside was…
“No..” He started to chuckle behind me. In the trunk was Isabel. My best friend, in her red dress… no, not red, white. Her beautiful white dress stained red. Tears started to fall from my eyes. I backed away in shock, feeling like I was going to puke.
“What’s wrong? You should be proud of her, she was a fighter. She fought too much if you ask me. It truly is a shame though. Such a pretty thing going to waste. She wasn’t strong enough to withstand losing all the blood though.” Drain her? Why in the world would he need to drain her?
“You see, I’m a vampire, Brooke. I just came here a few days ago, and I’ve been watching you for some time. All your routines, all your friends, family, everything.” He was starting to circle around me, stopping behind me and bending down to sniff my neck. I could feel his teeth poking at my neck. “Of course, I had to get Isabel out the way. You two were inseparable. Now, I can just sit back and enjoy the main course… You.”
I didn’t realize what was happening until it did. He bit into my neck harshly and I could feel the life being drained out of me. Just as I was about to pass out, he let me go. We were both panting heavily, and I started to crawl away.
“Ah ah ah”, he grabbed my ankle and pulled me back towards him. “Just where do you think you’re going? I can’t have you blabbing to the whole town now can I?” He lifts me up and puts me in the back seat of the car. I can’t even move anymore, I’m still bleeding. “Stay here, and I’ll go deal with your friend.” I know he means he’s going to get rid of Isabel. I can hear what sounds like digging and a body falling. After a couple of minutes, he comes back covered in blood.
“You know, you’re going to die soon. I can hear your heart getting slower, your breath getting fainter. I’m sure you can feel it.” He was right, I could feel it. I always thought death would be a scary thing, and it was. But, after the fear, came peace. Of course I felt weak and sad that I didn’t get to do a lot of things that I wanted, but I wasn’t in pain. In fact, I was almost happy with how gentle he was when he was collecting the remainder of my blood, like a warm blanket, the comfort of someone who loves and cares about you. He pulled me out of my thoughts by caressing my cheek.
“So beautiful, even in death. I’ll make sure to visit you everyday”, he said gently. I started to groan in protest, but he stopped me. “Shh, shh. It’s okay. Close your eyes and let the darkness take you.” And so I did.

The Holiday Fling| Mason Mount 2/2
Notes: I loved writing this cute little fic!! I'll be back to writing normal blurbs from now on, reqs are open for the time being if anyone has any requests! xx
Blurb: One where mason finally manages to bump into his mystery girl from Mykonos again.
Warnings: None.
It has been roughly a year since your trip to Mykonos with your brother.
In the last year you decided to do some traveling of your own before deciding to move out of london and bagging yourself a wonderful media marketing job at saint georges park for england's national football team. As nervous as you were, you were more excited for the job and its new opportunities, you knew very little about football but you were excited to learn.
You had been sent the job offer in a matter of weeks, only giving yourself days to start, therefore you didn't have much time to educate yourself on the sport or any of the team players, but that didn't matter all you had to do was interview them and supervise the videos that were being filmed for the england youtube channel.
You have been at the park for almost two days now. You spent your days getting to know the women's team, who all happened to be really lovely and welcoming. But today was the arrival day of the men's team.
You got a coffee in the morning with one of your coworkers, Layla, as you patiently waited for the team's slow arrival. However layla had now been whisked off on a job, leaving you on your own as the players were slowly starting to turn up, and this awful twisting feeling in your stomach just won't seem to go away.
That's how you found yourself against the door of the toilet cubicle, your hand clutched to your phone as you tried to steady your breath.
“Your be fine, i've met most of them and they seem like alright lads.'' Lando speaks through the phone.
“I know, I know.” You sigh, bringing your free hand up to rub your acing pupils.
“I could text some of them, asking them to look out for you, i'm sure mason would-”
“No! No, please don't do that, I just need to be a big girl.” You take in a deep breath.
“You're going to be fine, y/n. Listen, I have to run, but good luck!”
You say bye to your brother, putting your phone in your back pocket and walking out of the cubicle to the skink, looking up in the mirror.
“You're a bad bitch y/n, what's the worst thing that could happen.” You tell your reflection in the mirror.
You straighten out your navy blue england polo shirt before placing on some more lip balm and pushing the loose threads of hair behind your ears.
You take in another deep breath and head for the door.
You suppose you had a lot on your mind with the new job, you didn't know why you were so nervous for the men's team arrival, you put it down to excitement but really you were just scared they might not be as welcoming as the women's team.
You pulled open the door to turn left when your ankle was caught on the bottom of a suitcase, you started to tumble backwards until you felt a hand softly wrap under your arm pulling back your body to stop you from falling.
“Woah, are you okay?” The stranger asked you.
You stumble to find your balance, mentaly cursing yourself from the awful habit of walking with your head down.
It takes everything in you to raise your head to look at the person you had bumped into, you knew your cheeks would be visibly red since you were clearly embarrassed by the encounter.
But when you raised your gaze it was not at all what you were expecting to see.
You knew the face, but you didn't know who he was. He clearly knew you were because he was looking down at you like you were a ghost that had just walked through a wall.
He continually blinked his eyes as he scanned your features, his eyes intently stared into yours before examining your hair and your lips. You almost felt uncomfortable under the examination that was starting to last minutes with no words spoken from either of you.
Your eyes drifted down to where his hand was still wrapped around your upper arm, he watched as you let out a small cough and he took this as a hint as he released your arm from his grip.
“Sorry.” He mumbled, his hand coming up to scratch the back of his neck.
The moment he opened his mouth and released such an awkward chuckle you knew exactly who the boy was.
You could tell by the way he scratched his neck out of nervousness, how his Adam's apple bobbed when he talked. You mentaly hit yourself for a second for not recognizing him straight away, his eyes were the same, brown and glossy, even when they weren't reflecting in the moonlight. His hair was shotter and his shoulders were brouder, you took a moment for yourself to examine the man, just to make sure it was truly him.
It was definitely him.
The boy from Mykonos, your mystery boy.
“Y/n!” Your neck snapped behind you when you saw your co-worker calling you from afar, her brows furrowed as she watched you and the footballer standing outside the female toilets intensely staring each other down.
You turned your head back to the boy, his expression now changed, his shocked face and agpe mouth now closed as you watched the corners of his mouth slowly perk up in a smile.
You took a step back, still not uttering a word to him before scurrying off to you co worker.
Your mouth was in a thin line as you walked, your eyes wide as you didn't dare to turn back and look at him.
“What was that about?” She asked you as you scurried past her, clearly flustered as you wisped off to your office.
“Just keep walking.” You whispered, prepared to tell her the story once you were out of his sight.
Mason didn't move from his spot, he stood with a wide smile, it was his mystery girl, the thought.
“Y/n.” He muttered what he assumed was your actual name, he liked the way it rolled off his tongue, he liked the way it was nothing he had guessed before. He had spent countless nights wondering what your real name was, y/n never crossing his mind, he stood for a moment, still not being able to wipe his smile off his face as he repeated your name over and over again, he still liked Maya though.
“Hey mase?” Ben called from behind him, he had also watched the awkward interaction from afar, and he was prepared to bombarded his teammate with questions.
“What the hell did you just say to that poor girl? I've never seen someone run so fast in my life.” Ben chuckled, placing his hand on his friend's shoulder.
He had assumed Mason had dropped some kind of awful pick up line on the new girl, prepared to giggle at the boys' awful ways with females.
“That was her.” Mason mumbled, his gaze still strong on you as you walked over to the coworker that had been calling your name, grabbing her arm and continuing to walk down the hall.
“What?” Ben cocked his head to the side, confused at his teammate's bluntness.
“That's her.” Mason mumbled, his eyes wide as he eyed up your figure slightly, almost like he was confirming it was really you to himself, not to ben.
“Who?” Ben peered over Mason's shoulder, willing to get a good look at the girl his friend was staring down.
“Maya- No, I mean the mystery girl, from Mykonos last summer.” Mason said with a smile, watching as you scurried around the corner, now out of his sight.
“The one who stood you up?”
He had forgotten that part.
“Yep.”
“I thought you said she was blonde?” Ben's eyebrow quirked up as he started to smile at the predicament that was unfolding in front of him.
“Well she's obviously dyed it, idot.” Mason scolded, pushing Ben's hand off his shoulder, as he gripped his suitcase, ready to continue his journey to his room. Mason scurried off down the opposite end of the hallway, still not being able to wipe the smile off his face. He had found his mystery girl.
“So… you're telling me last year you went on holiday, met a random guy, went on a date with this random guy, but the random guy turned out to be mason mount but you didn't know it was mason mount until roughly five minuets ago?” Layla rambled out, just checking she had the story straight.
“It wasn't a date.” You mumbled back, your head pressed against your hands as you leant back in one of the desk chairs in your office.
“No, sorry it was just a romantic stroll on the beach?” She smirked at you, from the chair she was sitting in across from your desk.
“That's not even the worst part.” You winced as you remembered having to stand the boy up.
“Oh my god your had sex on the beach!” She sat up, her hands pressed to her cheeks as he giggled at you.
“What? No!” You giggled, You removed your hands from your face before letting out a large sigh.
“I was supposed to meet him the next day, but I kinda stood him up.” You winced as you spoke, remembering how badly you wanted to meet him outside of his hotel but your stupid brother had to ruin it.
“Ouch. Do you think he might be salty about it?” She asked you.
“I hope not.” You sat, biting the pads of your thumbs, wondering how you were going to work in such a close proximity with this man.
“Oh new girl, you have made my job so much more interesting, it's been two days and i love you already.”
After being left in your office by layla you found yourself drawn in the glass window where you could see a few of the boys walking around the grounds, you could see charles- mason laughing as he walked along.
Anyone could see from a mile off that he was clearly a ball of sunshine, he radiated laughter everywhere we walked and you could help but smile at the boy as you watched him walk past your window.
Later on in the day you were handed your schedule of where you needed to be and what you needed to do.
Your first job was to put together some questions and challenges for some of the boys to be posted on social media.
You felt your heart sink as you saw his name written on the bottom of your page, him, you mystery man from mykonos.
You tried not to panic as you made way out of your office and down to the big hall where the players would be for media day.
You kept your gaze straight as you desperately searched for layla. You walked by the boys that were sitting on the bleachers on your left. The hushed whispers definitely didn't go unnoticed by you as you felt your cheeks tint pink under such strong gazes. You made your way over to layla, just wanting the ground to swallow you whole.
“Just go talk to her.” Ben shrugged, he lent back on the bench, watching as his friend seemed to be wallowing.
“I can't just walk over there-'' Mason tried to protest, but Ben cut him off.
“Of course you can, just pretend she's ‘maya’?” Ben nudged his friend.
“Wait, do you know her real name yet?” Ben questioned Mason, his body leaning forward as he had just thought about something.
“I think it's y/n.” Mason answered back to the boy next to him, but his gaze was still focused on you as you were finishing up interviewing some of the other players.
“Y/n? Y/n as in landos sister y/n, the one that that he texted you about asking you to look out for?” Ben officially couldn't hold back the smile that had broken out on his face.
“Oh shit.” Mason mumbled.
Mason sat for a moment, his mind was racing a mile a minute. He was wondering if you were really the y/n that Lando had texted him about. But Ben confirmed his suspicions when he had managed to find your instagram within a matter of minutes.
Mason scrolled though you instagram before finding a photo you had posted in mykonos last year, the same night he had met you.
He handed Ben back his phone, ignoring the giggles erupting from his friend. But before he had even realized, his legs were dragging him up and off the bench, towards you.
“Don't panic, but Charles is walking over.” Layla lent over your shoulder to whisper in your ear.
“Whos ch-” You were about to question her, dropping your papers to turn around but instead your eyes locked with glossy brown ones of the man you seemed to know a little too well.
When he finally stood in front of you it took him a moment to counger up some words, his nervousness made you smile.
“Hello, maya.” He smirked at you, his calm and gentle tone relaxed you slightly as you melted into the sound of his voice.
“Charles.” You nodded at him, his smirk now reflecting onto you.
“It's erm, mason actually.” He smiled, extending his hand out for you to shake, you took his hand in yours, watching as he shaked it a couple times before pulling away, stuffing his hands in his back pockets.
“Y/n.” You were shocked you could even talk after touching his hand, you mind felt all over the place but when you saw that his smile never faded you couldn't help but feel comfortable in his presence.
“How did your mission go?” he asked you.
“What?” You questioned him.
“The potential threat, against the queen? You didn't turn up to the hotel so I assumed that she must have been in grave danger?” He said with a smirk and a light hearted laugh.
“Oh yeah, i would tell you what went down but it's a violation of rules.” You winked at him.
Mason giggled at your witty humor before bringing up the dreaded.
“You know, I was gutted when you didn't turn up.” He looked down to the pristine trainers on his feet, you felt a pang in your heart as you thought about how long he must have waited for you.
Mason waited in the lobby of the cecer hotel for roughly three hours, until eventually the receptionist took pity on him and called him a cab to meet his friends at the bar.
“Yeah me too.”
His gaze snapped up when he heard you say this, he thought maybe his company wasn't good enough and you had forgotten about him and your plans to meet up.
“Listen mason, I'm really sorry I couldn't meet you. Trust me, I really did want to.” You smiled up at him out of sympathy.
“Well then y/n, you owe me a date then.” He smirked, trying to push his luck.
“I guess I do.” You smiled up at him.
“I did promise your brother that I'll look after you.” he shrugged, "I would plan another date but the last time I did that you didn't show up."
He still couldn't believe how we had spent countless hours looking for any trace of you on social media, only for you to be the sister of the boy he plays playstation with most nights.
You smiled up at the boy in front of you, your heart panging in your chest at the way he was looking down at you.
“Room thirty four, in the west wing, pick me up at six spiderman.” You smiled before walking away from him, your mystery man.
Mason stood for a moment, the wide Cheshire cat smile on his face as he couldn't contain his excitement about finding you again.
His mystery girl from Mykonos.

Spellbound | Eddie Munson
[also on wattpad @TheHotWeasley]
Track Two: Ask
Description: Eddie proposes a scheme to his new freakish friend in the halls of Hawkins High
Warnings: Strong Language
"𝕴𝖋 𝖙𝖍𝖊𝖗𝖊'𝖘 𝖘𝖔𝖒𝖊𝖙𝖍𝖎𝖓𝖌 𝖞𝖔𝖚'𝖉 𝖑𝖎𝖐𝖊 𝖙𝖔 𝖙𝖗𝖞, 𝖆𝖘𝖐 𝖒𝖊, 𝕴 𝖜𝖔𝖓'𝖙 𝖘𝖆𝖞 𝖓𝖔, 𝖍𝖔𝖜 𝖈𝖔𝖚𝖑𝖉 𝕴?" - 𝕬𝖘𝖐, 𝕿𝖍𝖊 𝕾𝖒𝖎𝖙𝖍𝖘
As I stepped out, from the dim lighting of the principals office, into the harsh fluorescents of the hallway, I walked away with a weeks detention, and Jason Carver (the jock who got all up in my face), walked away with a warning. Typical bullshit.
“Hey, bride of Frankenstein!” a delightful voice came from just outside the door. Eddie. He had been waiting outside for me. I honestly figured he’d never show up again, he seemed the type who enjoyed toying with random people.
“Bride of Frankenstein’s-” I rolled my eyes, but suddenly Eddie interrupted me,
“Monster!” He laughed and pointed at me, “I knew you’d correct me on that you little ghost.” He brought his finger closer to my face and tapped my nose.
“What the hell is your problem?” I glared at him. I wasn’t going to deal with any more stupid boys fucking with me today.
“Woah, hey, I was just boopin’ your nose. Nothing crazy.” Eddie put his hands quickly in his pockets and rocked back and forth a bit. He seemed a bit nervous.
“Why are you still talking to me?” I asked. I was so confused what this guys motive was.
He laughed in response, “Because you’re the single coolest person I’ve ever seen, and you clearly need a friend in this place if you want to survive.”
“Yeah, I’m sure I’m the most exciting thing to happen in this little suburban town in years. I’ll probably start an epidemic.” Eddie smiled at my joke, and I continued, “But I don’t think you’d want me as a ‘friend’. I don’t want those guys coming after you.”
Eddie laughed again, “Man, you don’t get it. They hate me even more than you! But, I do taunt them a bit, so...”
“Oh, so you’re thinking the freaks stick together?” I gestured to the both of us.
“Duh! I’m in a whole gang of freaks. Well, not like a gang, more like a club, but that’s- nevermind, I’ll cut to the chase, I’ve got a proposition for you.” Eddie smirked. I crossed my arms.
“Propose away.” I sighed. This guy was more of a nerd than a badass, that was becoming increasingly clear.
"You got a...tough class next period?" He asked. I was getting tired of this.
"Nope, Cut to the chase." I said, incredibly annoyed.
"Okay. So. You and me get out of here-"
"Woah, I-" I interrupted, my face twisting at the idea that this-
"NO! Not like that. May I continue?" Eddie explained, and I nodded.
"Fine."
"We get out of here, skip the rest of the day, and go hang out at the best place ever. Hawkins' very own record store. They sell tapes there too." Eddie sure seemed excited about this plan.
"Are you asking me on a date?" I asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Only if you want me to. Otherwise we can call it a platonic quest." He shrugged.
"A platonic quest it shall be. With a capital 'P'." I really just wanted to get out of the school. It's Friday anyway, and my detentions start next week. So, I'll take a free ride any day.
"As you wish, Melanie." I didn't like him calling me by my name much either. However, it was a step up from sweetheart.
"AND, you're buying me a new tape. Got it?" I bargained.
"Anything for you, Siouxsie Sioux." He smirked.
Eddie and I tried to look as non suspicious as possible as we tip toed out the doors. Eddie started to break into a sprint, which I was very much not prepared for.
"HEY! MUNSON!!" I gasped, trying to keep up.
"LET'S GO, CAN'T SLOW DOWN!" He turned as he ran and grabbed my hand, and I could barely breathe. He dragged me along and I nearly tripped
"PLATFORMS AREN'T EXACTLY THE GREATEST RUNNING SHOES!" I whined.
We stopped near a dirty looking van, exactly what I expected, and Eddie jumped in immediately. I hesitated. Maybe I should just go back and not cause any more trouble.
"Melanie. Get in the god damn car, please!" Eddie yelped, starting the car, which brought along blaring Iron Maiden from the radio station. I turned back to the school, and looked back to Eddie. You're getting a free tape out of this, I told myself. I might as well hop in.
I ran around the van, threw open the door and hopped in. Just as I did, Eddie threw the van in reverse and flew out of the parking lot as I screamed.
"Oh yeah, I'm not the best driver out there," Eddie chuckled, "You might wanna buckle up."
"I was planning on it, untiL YOU THREW IT INTO REVERSE WITH MY DOOR STILL OPEN!" I yelled as I finally slammed the door shut.
"I wanted to feel like a badass, what can I say?" He joked.
I laughed at the absurdity of the situation. Eddie continued to fly down the road, and I was astonished that we hadn't been pulled over yet.
"So... Melanie, what other tapes you got? I'm curious."
"Oh, on me? Today I was feeling like shit so I grabbed the hardest stuff I have. I usually stick with rock though, obviously. But today..." I rifled through my tote bag, digging out the few tapes I brought with me.
"Let's see... you were listening to The Number of the Beast-"
"Incredible album. Great start for you." Eddie smirked. I rolled my eyes.
"Yeah, yeah... I also have Master of Puppets..."
"HOLY SHIT, FOR REAL?" Eddie yelped, incredibly excited.
"Ha... yeah." I smiled. It was incredibly nice to meet someone who wasn't afraid of my music taste. I felt my heart warm my entire chest.
"I can play that on my guitar, man! You'll have to come to one of my shows sometime. We usually include at least one Metallica song per set, because they're, ya know, geniuses and all."
"Exactly! They're one of the best out there." I mused.
"See, I knew I would like you!" Eddie grinned and hit the steering wheel. I chuckled in response.
"Hey, I'm still warming up to you Munson." I joked.
"I sure hope so." He mumbled, fiddling with his ring.
I felt my face flush a bit, and tried to not think about that comment too much. I was really starting to like him, and that scared the shit out of me. I think he caught me looking off in the distance, because he waved his hand in my face,
"Melanie? You spaced out there. You good?"
"Oh, yeah. I'm all good. Just enjoying being kidnapped by a fellow metalhead."
"Hey! You agreed to come. I was given full consent!"
"Just don't try anything funny, or I'll have to manipulate this story a bit."
"Oh, Melanie... this is just the beginning of our story. I'm sure of it."
I paused to think for a moment. I genuinely didn't know if he was fucking with me or actually cared.
"How... are you so sure about this? About me? What if I am crazy. What if you're just trying to manipulate this whole situation to conquer a fellow freak?"
"Woah, woah... don't worry your head like that. You really think that little of me?"
"To be completely honest, Eddie, I barely know you."
"That's a fair point."
"How can I trust that you're not taking me to your weird murder lair with a whole torture chamber and everything?"
"You'll just have to wait and find out, I guess." He winked at me.
"Not the time to wink." I objected.
"You're right." Eddie said, embarrassed.
"Maybe another time?" I offered.
The silly boy's face lit up.
"Oh, there will be plenty more to come."

Who? (Forlorn Tale of Dionysus Part 2)
Part 1
Warnings: Swearing
Word count: 2,843
(A/N): I’m not exactly sure if this will continue any further, this was just a fun little thing I had in my drafts for a while after some interesting convos in my discord server (which you totally should join, it’s a vibe). This is lowkey word vomit, but eh. This is all strictly platonic btw
“Michael, are you sure you saw a house out here? I really don’t think-” You were interrupted by your much shorter friend yanking on your sleeve to get your attention. You looked down at him in question and watched as he raised his hands.
‘I am sure I saw that house, (y/n)! It is here somewhere.’
You fiddled with the sleeves of your thick coat with unease, “alright, but if we don’t find it soon I wanna head back. Uncle Boo and Uncle Tubbo are probably going to start to worry.”
Michael huffed at the mention of his parents. You knew how overbearing they were, causing your friend to crave new experiences and adventures. You’d known him for a couple of years now and he was rebelling more with each passing day. You could relate slightly, Philza and Technoblade had hardly let you out of the house without another person to accompany you. You never really understood why, you were almost thirteen now so you should be able to explore what you want.
An excited squeal left your friend’s mouth before he started to pull you towards something in the distance, startling you out of your trance. You matched his pace with ease and felt nervous excitement tingle in your chest.
As you got closer, you could make out small details of the cabin. It was a simple small cabin built out of spruce planks with glass windows and a brick chimney, but you liked it. It strangely felt homey.
You pulled Michael into a nearby shrub underneath a window and peered in. The interior was also as simplistic as the outside was, looking untouched and tidy as if nobody was living there. You could see that the ceilings were taller than average, perhaps a hybrid of some sort lived here?
Michael tapped your shoulder, ‘it doesn’t look like anybody’s home right now. Let’s go in.’
You opened your mouth to object before the sight of his set jaw and his eyes dead set on something inside made you close it. You learned from experience that when he was this determined, there was no stopping him. You sighed, “fine, but the second we get caught, it was your idea.”
You both made your way to the front door. Without a second thought, Michael twisted the doorknob and swung the door open. A startled snort left his throat as he stumbled inside, making you put a hand over your mouth to stifle your laughter. He jabbed the side of your lower torso, ‘shut up, I thought it was going to be locked.’
He pulled you inside and you both explored the living room. Bookshelves and portraits lined the walls, a single large couch sat off to the side, and the fireplace mantle was lined with a few small golden hooks. Michael made a beeline towards it, admiring the metal. It seems that’s what he saw that made him so determined to get inside. You hoped that he wouldn’t steal them and explored the area further.
The portraits on the walls were a slight shock to you, they all included some people that you could recognize; in one you could make out a picture of younger versions of Ranboo, Philza, Technoblade, and Niki. Technoblade and Philza were sparring with shining golden swords while Ranboo and Niki sat in the grass on a hill watching with interest. Maybe this was just one of their old cabins?
You saw people that you didn’t recognize as well. Namely a cat hybrid with striking sapphire blue eyes, a man seemingly human (you say seemingly because your eyes caught sight of pointed ears) wearing a white bandana keeping his jet black hair out of his face, a tall man with green freckles and a creeper mask, an anthropomorphic diamond block with beady black eyes and a wide smile, and a man that looked strangely like Ghostbur except he was wearing a uniform of some sort. However, a demon quickly caught your eye and made your heart leap for joy. There was someone out there that was like you!
The man looked kind, always wearing a cheery smile and occasionally waving at the camera. He was tall and lanky, always towering over the others by a considerable amount. That made sense, Philza had told you that demons were naturally very tall when you asked him why you were growing faster than Michael when the zombie piglin was two years older than you were. Large wings and horns akin to yours sprouted from his back and head respectively. If he wasn’t constantly smiling, you would’ve thought that he was malevolent.
You heard the rapid footsteps of Michael’s boots behind you as you turned around. You bounced on the balls of your feet excitedly, “Michael look, another demon! Do you think he lives here?”
You watched as he shrugged and pulled you towards the kitchen. ‘I don’t know, but look! There’s another demon that looks exactly like you!’
On the kitchen table surrounded by various trinkets (bottles of wine, gold bricks, stale bread, and the decomposed remains of flower crowns and bouquets being the majority of the items) laid a framed picture of said demon lazily smiling and looking off to the side. Michael was right, they looked exactly like you except at least a decade older. Everything matched your physical features to a tee; from the red accents on their black wings to the way they smiled, it was like they were your clone. The only thing of yours that they were missing was the three circular birthmarks on your forehead. It was eerily uncanny.
Your eyes widened before you snatched the picture off from the table, studying them further. If you squinted, you could see that there was someone barely in frame. You flipped the frame around and took out the picture, unfolding it. In the picture was your adopted father and adopted uncles and aunt. What was going on? If they knew the demon, why didn’t they ever tell you about them?
‘Woah, that was smart. Do you think you might be related to them or something?’ He tilted his head before he perked up, ‘could they be one of your biological parents?’
“Maybe, but if they were, why didn’t my dad tell me about them? I… have a right to know about them, right?”
He nodded firmly, ‘you definitely do. It’s kind of fucked up they haven’t told you anything about them.’
“Yeah, it is. Do you think something bad happened to them?... Oh shit, is this a memorial?” You hurriedly refolded the picture and put it back into its frame.
Michael’s eyes widened and flickered around the table at the trinkets before he fished out two gold bars from his pocket and placed them onto the table. You crossed your arms, “what the fuck man?”
‘I thought they wouldn’t miss a few pieces of gold! You would’ve done the same thing if you were a piglin,’ he defended himself before he paused and shuddered, ‘we’re in a dead person’s house, that’s creepy… What if their ghost is right behind us?’
You spun around and put yourself slightly in front of Michael, your heart beating in your throat. Nothing was there. Michael snorted, making you slap his arm, “not cool, man.”
You were about to stomp off until a piece of paper caught your eye. It was a drawing of this person done in messy purple crayon, probably done by a very young child. It was signed by a Michael.
You turned to the wheezing zombie piglin and patiently waited for him to stop laughing. When he did, you showed him the picture, “did you draw this? Did you know them?”
He scrunched up his brow in concentration, squinting at the paper. Eventually he shook his head slowly, ‘I don’t think so. At least I don’t remember drawing it… This is getting weird.’
You nodded in agreement, putting the drawing back onto the counter. You walked towards the stairs and climbed them. They creaked under your foot loudly, a part of you was scared that you would fall through them. It was clear they haven’t been used in some time.
They led to a small loft, the ceiling coming to a point far overhead. A part of you was glad that this stranger (relative? Parent?) was a demon, it wasn’t often that you found lofts that fit all six and a half feet of you.
Like the rest of the house, it was very simplistic. A gigantic bed laid in the center of the furthest wall, made neatly with multiple fluffy blankets, part you was tempted to catapult yourself onto it. On the nightstand next to it sat a redstone lamp and a frosted glass of water, cracks spider webbing up the sides presumably from the cold.
You opened the lone drawer and discovered a book. Upon further inspection, you discovered that it was a journal with the name (y/n) written inside the cover. So this person had your name as well as your looks? This merely raised more questions than answers, so you slid the book into a pocket in your coat to read later. Under the book laid another picture of them posing with the strange group of people from the portraits downstairs. The de- (y/n) looked younger there. On the back, the word family was written and it was dated to be about twenty years old. You also pocketed the picture.
Michael walked over to the window and looked out at the vast tundra only to squeal in alarm. He ran over to you and pulled you downstairs. You looked out the window only to yelp when you saw a few crows standing on the window sill staring at you with their beady eyes.
You and Michael ran out of the house as fast as the both of you could, the snow being slightly tough to run through for the five and a half foot tall zombie piglin. You could hear the crows following you overhead. After a while of running, you both finally got back to Snowchester and raced past Ranboo and Tubbo. You hid in Michael’s room with the curtains tightly drawn.
You sat on his bed with your legs crossed and your back pressed up against the headboard. You let your head bang against the wall and you ran your hand down your face. “We’re fucked, dude. We’re literally so fucked.”
‘Uncle Phil’s still out of town so it’ll probably be a few days until they find out.’ Michael plopped next to you, panting and trying to regain his breath. “Still, we’re gonna be in so
much trouble for going that far out. I didn’t think my dad’s crows were still here.”
‘Might as well read the journal you found before we get grounded.’
You nodded and took out the journal, flipping it open to the first page. You both read the journal until it was dark outside and Michael was passed out on your shoulder. Subconsciously, you wrapped your wing around him as you read the journal.
The other (y/n) acted like you did for the most part, the only differences between you two was the lack of swearing and the fact that they felt alone even when they were surrounded by people. Your family’s names were dropped several times, especially when they were talking about ‘The Syndicate’. The code names they used were after various Greek myths, leading you to believe that Technoblade was one of the founders of the anarchist group.
You had learned that their family (potentially your family?) was strangely possessed by an egg and that they were previously possessed by said egg. They had a brother named Sapnap (your potential uncle?) that helped them escape to the tundra. It was there that they found the Syndicate, reminding you of the found family tropes you would read in books. The last journal entry detailed their last mission, how they were going to destroy the Eggpire from within and get their family back. That entry in particular gave you chills, even someone with half a brain could tell what happened to them after that.
By the time you had closed the book, it was dawn and the sun was peeking out from behind the closed curtains. You shook Michael awake and stretched out your aching body. Your neck muscles protested movement, sending a wave of pain across the area.
‘Damn, did you stay up all night reading that?’
“Of course I did, why wouldn’t I? I needed to find out about my biological parent somehow. I just- nothing makes sense, Michael.” You growled out, your voice deepening and distorting slightly as your frustration rose.
‘Chill! You’ll figure it out soon, let’s just focus on staying under the radar.’
“Too late for that.”
You both jumped and fell off the bed as you heard Philza’s voice. In the doorway, Philza stood with Ranboo, Tubbo, and Technoblade by his side, all looking equally angry and disappointed. Next to you, Michael shrunk in on himself and smiled sheepishly. He was about to raise his hands to sign, but a pointed look from Tubbo next to him told him that there was no getting out of this one.
Behind the anger, you could tell that something changed about the way the four were looking at you. You couldn’t tell what emotion they were hiding, whether it be wariness, longing, sadness, or just more unleashed anger, but you could tell that they knew something you didn’t. If the frustration that overcame you when you were reading the journal at the lack of questions answered burned inside of you, then what you felt now was a blazing inferno.
“We’re going home, grab your stuff (y/n).”
After a short staredown with the older man, you huffed in anger and gathered your things into your bag. The entire time, tense silence filled the room. Your hands were shaking with the rage you felt searing every inch of you. You could hear the sharp flicking of your pointed tail cutting through the air and occasionally hitting objects near you.
When you were done you stomped over to your adopted family and shouldered between Philza and Technoblade, speed walking down the hallway. They quickly caught up with you after saying a quick apology and a goodbye, Technoblade grabbing your arm and holding it in a vice grip.
They led you out of the mansion and into the harsh winds of the tundra. It wasn’t until Snowchester was far off in the distance that Technoblade shook your arm, “what the hell were you thinking, going into someone else’s house like that! You don’t know who lived there, you could’ve gotten yourself and Michael killed!”
“You really thought I wouldn’t find out, didn’t you?” You ripped your arm out of his hold and spoke in a low voice, struggling to contain your full rage. “I have a goddamned right to know about them.”
“...I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Philza muttered out and resumed walking back towards your house. “You’re grounded when we get back, no flying or dueling lessons for two weeks.”
“Of course you know what I’m talking about, Dad! Why are you hiding them from me? I have a right to know about my biological parent even if they’re dead!”
They both halted in their tracks and glanced at each other in slight confusion. “What-”
“You know damn well who I’m talking about. Gods, I can’t believe you thought I’d never find out,” you laughed sardonically as your hand subconsciously gripped your growing horn. “(Y/n)! You know, the demon that lived in that house? The one that looks exactly like me?! Does that ring a bell or do I have to show you this?”
You rummaged in your pocket and ripped out the picture, shoving it into Philza’s hands. Technoblade looked over his shoulder at what you gave him. You watched as their expressions turned blank when they saw the demon in the picture.
Minutes passed with them continuing to stare down at the picture and you were slowly getting impatient. “Why did you never tell me about them? Why are you keeping me from them?!”
Without looking up at you, Philza mumbled, “you weren’t supposed to find out about them. You were never supposed to find out.”
“Do you have any idea how ambiguous that is? Just tell me who they are!” You could feel your eye twitch as your frustration grew.
You could see the internal conflict on Philza’s face growing by the second before he dipped his head downwards and stalked off in the opposite direction of the house. You spread your wings to chase him in the air, but Technoblade’s hand on your upper arm stopped you from lifting off.
When you looked up at him, the look of regret and sorrow etched into his features caught you by surprise. “Let him go, he needs to do some thinking… (y/n), do you know what reincarnation is?”

Yang:Do you think she thinks less of me?
Jaune:You and Ruby are sisters. You may fight but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t care.
Yang:Yeah, Ruby...
Jaune:.....Wait are you talking about Blake?
Yang:*caught of guard* Uhhhhh
Jaune:Because why would she think less of you for choosing to act like a first responder?
.......
Ren:*outside* He has a point!
Director:Stick to the script!

Raven:Does she have it?
Qrow:You’re going to have be a little bit more specific.

[Volume 3]
Blake:*getting first aid*
Adam:*staring at camera* Funny thing about Blake Belladonna, she hates reshoots.
Blake:Do not...
Adam:She hates them so much in fact that she’ll do whatever it takes make the first take an absolute masterpiece. Blake Belladonna however also does about half of her stunts. Good stunts too. All those flips and hand to hand, that’s just her being cool. *puts hands together* I’ve worked with her since day one. I’m in most of those actions scenes. So let me tell how insane this girl is.
Blake:Oh geez...
Adam:Ten minute ago, we’re just shooting the scene where her character and my character are fighting. The plan was I “backhand” her and she falls on the ground. Now we’re not perfect. We’ve accidentally grazed each other before. But when I tell you Blake literally just sat there and watched as my hand swung at her....
Blake:Man, I don’t know what happened! *snorting* I knew it was coming, but then the next minute I had no time to go with it.
Adam:Now normally, a sane person would yell cut, but not Blake. I’m looking at her shocked as she’s staring back mouthing “roll with it.” And against judgment, I did.
Blake:It doesn’t get more authentic than that! Plus it only stung.
Yang:Until we finished the scene! We look at you and this red mark is appearing and you’re like “yeah, Adam knocked the hell out of me.”
Adam:And now I feel bad!
Blake:Nah man, perfect scene. Way to improvise.
Yang:Blake Belladonna everyone.
xxxx
Fennec: *dies*
Corsac: Corsac no!!!
Ilia:Wait, your Corsac.
Corsac:Shit, really? Damn, read the long lines all volume.
Ilia:W..wait...*smiling* d..did switch roles? Has no caught that?
Blake:N...no? *looks around* We didn’t right?
Sun:*containg laughter* Please...please tell me we haven’t mixed the roles all season? You audition for...?
Corsec:Fennec. I’m playing Fennec right? *snickering*
Blake:I...uh..how’d we-
Corsec:I’m just fucking with you.
Blake:Oh my god! Dude, I thought we messed up so much shit! My heart!
Crew:*laughing*
Blake:Y’all are jerks. I type the credits don’t scare me like that!
xxxxx
Ghira:*tears cloak off*
Tyrian and Salem: Dayuuuuuum! Look at that man!
Ghira:Pfft, god damn it. You ruined my roar! Hahaha.
xxxxx
Director:Alright Jaune. So in this scene you punch the wall because you just learned about Salem being immortal. Remember to hit hard enough get a good bang for the mic, but we don’t want you breaking your hand or anything.
Jaune:Got it!
Director:And action!
Jaune:*cracks wall*
Everyone:......
Jaune:......
Nora:Welp, he didn’t say anything about breaking the wall.
xxxxxx
Cinder:*holding sister* Diva in the building yall. Introducing mini me.
Ember:I get paid!
Cinder:Yeah you do!
Everyone:(The resemblance is uncanny.)
xxxxxx
Interviewer: Has it feel to work with distinguished talents like Tyrian.
Mercury:There isn’t a moment that man lets me rest. I could have one scene and that guy is offset staring at me and shimming or wearing a prop just throw me off-he’s doing it now! *smiles*
Tyrian:*in Salem’s costume* I don’t know what you mean Mercury? Are you...*props leg up* distracted?
Mercury:Serious doesn’t exist with that man on set.
xxxxx
Interview:Adam, how’s it feel to be the most hated character.
Adam:It’s hilarious. I go the store to get a coffee and the cashier is doing a double take as they stare at me wearing a shirt with Pumpkin Pete on it. Before they process who I am exactly I’m just like, “please tell me you have pumpkin spice?” And their perception is ruined immediately.
Interviewer:Ever get hate at events.
Adam:Oh it’s a game now! Not by my choice. This was Yang’s idea.
Yang:*pokes in* Y’all talking about the game where I make people upset? *sits in his lap* excuse me.
Adam:Against my will...*snickers* anytime I go to a convention with Yang, she enters the room from the opposite door and let the people gather to her while haters gather to me.
Yang:By the time I reach him I see about a dozen people glaring at him while my fans are following me until I get where I need to go. Right before I do, I walk up to Adam as if I didn’t know he’d be there, then jump into his arms happily. Everyone shuts up. They don’t know how to cope.
Adam:That’s with almost any hero in this show. I’m minding my own business and then they cling to me for shock value. Yang and Blake are the worst though.
Yang:I’ve sat in his lap like I am now at a Q&A before because people booed when he showed up. The beef isn’t real people! My arm is fine!
xxxxx
Jaune:*staring at Pyrrha’s statue*.....
*foot steps approach*
Jaune:*looks left* !?
Pyrrha:*holding flowers* A tragedy, this person’s death. You knew them?
Jaune:I...y...no. Just heard of her.
Pyrrha:Really? Cool. Reall strong person. Her people were heartbroken when she chose Beacon. But it was the place she dreamed of. Ashamed she died. Gone, never to be seen.
Jaune:She may be gone, but I know she had no regrets. Pyrrha was a huntress through and through, and I believe she fought like one until the end.
Pyrrha:*nods* Yeah, I think so too. *containg joy*
.........
Pyrrha:This isn’t the real scene by the way.
Jaune:I was about to say! Like, what the hell is happening!? I read the script and missed this part!
Pyrrha:Hahahaha! Good improvising. *claps* way to roll with the nonsense. I can’t believe you said no though! That’s how you get haunted.
Jaune:*laughing* I thought I was! Ghost Pyrrha walking with flowers saying “oh you know her?” I thought I did until you showed up!
Ren:We just shoot random scenes of you talking to Pyrrha and never address it. Jaune is just crazy now.
Pyrrha:I’m down for that!
Director:No! Well....no! Stop trying to get more lines!
Pyrrha:Awww.
xxxxxx
Ozpin:You know originally I brought my kid here so we can bond and he was like “awesome!”
Cameraman pans over to Oscar and Penny sitting on a bench eating together, laughing.
Ozpin:*smirking* I was played, but I respect it.
xxxxxx
[Volume 6]
Jaune:*walks up to Ruby* Promise that you’ll meet us there.
Ruby:I promise. *smiles*
..... *both lean in*
Ruby:......*kisses him*
Everyone:!?!?
Nora:Woah! Cut!
Ruby:Huh? What’s up?
Nora:There’s no kiss!
Ruby:Really? Feels like a kiss should be here. Huh, my bad. Thought it was written in.
xxxxxx
Ruby:*posed up in chair* They had to cut out me kissing Jaune. That’s fine, still kissed him.
xxxxxx
Nora:All I’m saying is maybe I should get a kiss with him.
Director:Nora, just ask him out on your own time.
Nora:Pffft what? Me, into Jaune? No..... I just think it would make good narrative sense.
Director:How!?
Nora:......*walks away* It just would!

Ghost Farm

The GIW need ghost samples to conduct experiments. Why capture ghosts when you can make your own? prompt by @mystyrust
word count: 2609
warning: offscreen character death
gosh this prompt
Danny yawned as he walked into the school. He walked up to Sam and Tucker and was just about to greet them when heard Paulina sobbing into Dash’s chest by her locker.
“Woah.” He said. “What’s happening?”
“Star’s still missing.” Sam whispered.
“It’s been a week since her parents filed that report and no one’s seen any sign of her since then.” Tucker looked at his PDA. “No one has anything new to report online. I think it's starting to really wear on Paulina.”
“Maybe when we patrol later we should check up on some other places rather than just the ghost hot spots.” Danny said, looking back at Paulina. “Maybe we’ll be able to find something while we’re out.”
“Maybe.” Sam said. The first bell rang and they started heading to class. “But if we’re being realistic, a week is a long time with this kind of thing. She could be long gone out of Amity Park by now. Or, you know.” She whispered that last part.
“It wouldn’t hurt to try looking around though.”
The three of them walked into Lancer’s class. The empty desk next to Paulina felt like it took up the entire room and many of their classmates were trying not to look at it. The final bell rang and Mr. Lancer turned from where he was writing on the board.
“Alright, class.” He said somberly. “Let’s get started.”
QQQQQ
“We’re having no luck down here, Danny. What about you?” Tucker called through the Fenton phones.
Danny flew past the arcade and an ice cream shop and stopped, floating in front of an alley. “Nothing here. I think we can call it for-”
Danny’s head whipped towards the sound of trash cans crashing around. He floated into the alley slowly, looking around. When he came out the other end there was no one there.
“Are you okay, Danny?”
He turned back around. “Yeah, I think some cat was getting into one of the garbage cans over here or something.” He flew back out of the alley.
“Okay, well then-”
Danny stopped listening to her when he saw something laying on the ground. He touched down on the concrete and bent over to pick up a pink clip.
“Hey Sam.” Danny asked. “Dash and Kwan were talking about taking Paulina for ice cream, right?”
“Yeah?” She said, confused. “Why?”
“I found Paulina’s hair clip on the ground.”
A heavy silence settled between the three of them.
“She probably left with them, right?” Danny asked. “They wouldn’t have left her alone here?”
“There’s no way they’d just leave her there. Not with Star missing.” Tucker said.
Silence hovered over them again for a few seconds before Danny spoke. “You guys go home. I’m gonna fly up and down the streets over here again.”
“Are you sure?” Sam asked.
“Yeah.” Danny took off, flying above the buildings and scanning the ground below him. “Be careful getting home and let me know when you get there.”
They both gave him affirmatives and he looked up and down each street. In fifteen minutes he got notice that Sam was home and ten minutes after that so was Tucker.
He let out a deep breath, a bit more relaxed now that he knew Sam and Tucker were safely at home. He had a bad feeling, but he hadn’t seen anything suspicious along the streets or in the alley, so maybe Paulina did leave with Kwan and Dash and she just dropped her hair clip.
He turned around to start heading back home. He dropped down in between his house and the neighbor’s and transformed. Before heading inside, he let Sam and Tucker know he was home and he turned off the Fenton Phones and put them in his pocket.
Danny opened the door and stepped inside, shutting it behind him. He greeted his parents who sat waiting on the couch, his mom reading the paper and his dad cross stitching something. He yawned and started heading upstairs to get ready for bed.
After brushing his teeth and changing in the bathroom, Danny crossed the hall into his room, closing the door and turning off the light. He flopped down onto his bed and pulled the covers over himself.
He hoped Paulina was doing better tomorrow.
QQQQQ
Paulina was missing.
She had never come home last night and her parents called all her friends, asking if they knew where she was. No one had seen her since yesterday, and her parents filed a missing person report. It spread like wildfire through the school.
Dash and Kwan in particular looked horrified and close to hysterics throughout the day. They didn’t talk to anyone, didn’t even really look in anyone’s direction when their names were called.
It took until lunch, but soon word spread that one of the underclassmen was missing too. One of the band kids. No one had seen him since last night either and he just happened to live in the area that the ice cream shop was in.
It didn’t stop there either. Day after day, more and more kids were disappearing. Mikey, Dale, Sarah, more underclassmen. It was getting to the point where they cancelled school until someone had some answers.
That didn’t stop Sam from going out and searching for any clue she could find though. The first time Danny had seen her when he was patrolling on his own, he scooped her right up and took her home, scolding her.
When his mom got a panicked phone call from Sam’s hysteric mom, his heart dropped into his stomach. His hands went numb and he stared at his mom until she got off the phone and walked over to where he sat on the couch.
She pulled him into her arms tightly and whispered into his hair.
“Sam’s missing.”
QQQQQ
“Come on, Danny!” Tucker yelled through the computer. “You can’t just walk around waiting to be kidnapped! If you get kidnapped how are we gonna fix this?”
“What we’ve been doing hasn’t been working, Tucker!” Danny yelled back. “I can only cover so much ground when I don’t know what I’m looking for and you can’t be out there. I can barely do any patrols as it is, my parents are always coming up to my room to check on me. I don’t see any other way to do this.”
“What if you don’t come back either?”
Danny paused. “I have to come back. If I don’t come back then neither does Sam.”
Tucker sighed. “Just. Be careful.”
“I’ll try to be as careful as I can while being kidnapped.”
Tucker made a face at him just before Danny logged off. Transforming, Danny jumped into the air and flew out the window. He flew around town a bit before dropping off into the alleyway he found Paulina’s hair clip in. The areas that the kids were last seen in seemed to be all over town, but he couldn’t shake the sound that the garbage cans had made that day out of his head.
Pressing his back against the wall, Danny transformed and strolled out, walking down the street. There weren’t many people out most days now. Most of them were too afraid of going outside and getting snatched up like all the teenagers.
He’d been walking for fifteen minutes before he heard the crunch of gravel underneath tires behind him. He didn’t turn around and kept walking forward. Footsteps rapidly approached him and suddenly a bag was over his head.
“Hey!” He shouted.
“Are you sure we should take this one? What about his parents?”
Someone else scoffed. “They’re too dumb to do anything about it. They won’t even know where to find him. Just help me get him in the car.”
They picked Danny up and hauled him back towards the car. He heard the trunk open and they tied his wrists together before shutting the trunk heavily above him. Soon the vehicle was moving and driving away.
Well, he accomplished what he sent out to do. It wasn’t very comfortable though.
They must’ve been driving for at least an hour because by the time they stopped, both of Danny’s legs were asleep. The trunk popped open and he could feel the cold air rushing in. They pulled him out and placed him on the ground, yanking him back up after he almost collapsed from the pins and needles feeling in his legs.
They walked him to an entrance where he could hear key cards being scanned at multiple points. They led him through squeaky hallways until they stopped and were suddenly lifting him up onto a bed? No, a stretcher. They strapped him down and once he was tightly bound they ripped the bag off of his head.
Danny scrunched his eyes up at the white light bouncing off the bright white walls. Looking around, he saw two faces staring down at him. Agent K and Agent O.
“The GIW?” Danny said. “What the fuck? Why are you kidnapping humans?”
They ignored him and started pushing him down a very long hallway.
Rolling down the long hallway, Danny can hear the moans and groans, most of them coming from ghosts. He looks around and sees room upon room, windows letting him see the people inside each of them.
His heart drops when he sees Star. She’s floating inside her room, a small husk of a ghost. When she sees him, her eyes immediately light up with rage and sparks fly off of her as she bounces all over the room.
In the next room is Paulina. It doesn’t look like she’s a ghost, but it looks like she’s sick with ghost powers again. She’s pressed tightly against the wall she shares with Star. She hiccups and a ghost sense floats out of her mouth.
As they push him by, he sees everyone. Mikey, Dale, Sarah. All of the underclassmen that went missing. Even Dash was there. Each one various levels of dead, alive, and sick.
They reach the end of the hallway and his pulse is spiking, his heart hammering in his chest. He hasn’t seen Sam anywhere.
He clears his throat. “So, uh, wanna share what you guys are doing here?”
“Ghost studies.” Agent K clips out.
“Right. Why are you kidnapping humans then?”
“It’s easier to make ghosts than to catch them.”
“What-” Danny stops and his eyes widen. They can’t be serious. Making ghosts? His thoughts go back to Star, bouncing around her room like a comet and his blood runs cold.
They roll through a set of double doors and when they open they’re in an operating room. His thoughts are buzzing and he can hear the click and ping of metal objects being placed on the counter. They’re just about to roll a utensil cart over to his stretcher when he hears a scream that fills his veins with fire.
Without even thinking about it, Danny rips his wrists out of the restraints and punches Agent O in the face. He falls into the cart and all of the tools clatter to the ground. Danny shoots an ectoblast at each belt binding his ankles to the stretcher and hops off the bed, facing Agent K, glaring at him, hands filled with ectoplasm.
“You’re a ghost!” Agent K exclaims before Danny kicks him in the stomach.
“And you’re scum.” Danny snarls. He shoots an ectoblast into the side of Agent K’s head, knocking him unconscious.
Transforming, Danny jumps up into the air and starts flying from room to room, looking for Sam. He finally finds her in another room in a different hallway, another agent sticking a needle full of ectoplasm into her arm. She screams again.
As the agent is reaching for something else from a tray, Danny picks up the tray, sending its contents flying, and smashes it into his face. The agent tumbles to the ground and Danny grabs his keycard. Picking Sam up, Danny phases them out of the room, locking the agent inside.
“Sam! Sam, are you okay?” Danny asks shakily.
She shakes her head. “We can’t worry about me right now. We have to get your parents and the cops.”
“But-”
Sam shakes her head again. “Some of these kids won’t make it long enough for you to patch me up. They’ve been sick for too long.”
He looks at her for a few seconds before nodding. He shoots up into the air, holding Sam close to his chest as he flew as fast as he could back home.
He flew straight into the living room, halting abruptly when he saw his parents standing there. They stared with wide eyes at Sam in his arms and started reaching for their guns.
“Wait!” He shook his head. “We need your help! I found out where all the kids are!”
Maddie’s gun clattered to the ground. “Where are they? Was Danny with them?”
“Danny’s fine, he’s not there.” He said hurriedly. “They’re in a GIW compound outside of town. We need to hurry.”
“Let me just-” Maddie started reaching for Sam.
“No! We can’t waste any time.” His grip tightened on Sam. “She said she’ll be fine for now but there are kids who won’t make it much longer. They need our help more right now.”
“Okay. Okay, Jack. Get the keys for the van and a couple of bazookas. You take Sam to the van and direct us to the compound. I’m going to get in touch with the police.”
They all piled into the van and Danny directed them toward the compound. Danny kept a close eye on Sam and Maddie stayed on the phone until they reached the compound, giving the police the address. The van slammed through the brick wall surrounding the compound and straight into the front wall of the building.
They all jumped out, Danny still carrying Sam, and he keycarded them through all the locked doors until they got to the wing full of students. Maddie covered her mouth as she looked at them.
Soon the police got there and they began to cart out the agents that remained in the building. Paramedics came in to take care of the kids who were still alive while Jack and Maddie worked on calming Star and the other ghosts down.
Danny let go of Sam’s hand slowly as the paramedics loaded her into the ambulance. He turned around and flew back into the building where he found his parents trying to comfort a distraught Star.
He floated up to her and held a hand out. She looked at it and her eyes darted up to his face, recognition flashing through them. Tears welled up in her eyes and she stood, wrapping her arms around him as she sobbed.
He loosely wrapped his arms back around her and waited with her until she was ready to go.
QQQQQ
Danny, Sam, and Tucker sat closely together on top of Danny’s bed. They had just gotten back from the memorial held for all the kids that died inside the compound. Danny and Tucker each held one of Sam’s hands, gripping them tightly.
Sam took a deep breath and let it out shakily, her fingers twitching and going through Danny’s hand before settling back in place.
Danny hoped to whatever deity there might be that this would never happen again. No matter what anyone thought of the ghosts in Amity Park, they had never stooped low enough to kill someone. They weren’t collecting humans for a ghost farm.
He glanced up at the window, looking at the night sky. A ghost flew through the night, sparking brightly like a comet.

Cover-Up
Avengers x teen!reader
warnings:
a/n:
prompt:
Thin ice.
That’s what Secretary Ross had said to you the last time you spoke. You’re on thin ice, kid.
Why did he choose to threaten you like that? Because you were iffy on the Accords. That was all it took. He was threatening your position as an Avenger, one you had fought so hard to secure. And there were still hurdles you hadn’t quite hopped yet, being the youngest on the team and all. A “kid” to them.
One strike and you were out, they warned you some years ago, but did you listen?
No, that’s why you were standing in an evacuated airport with Steve and the sensible half of the gang. Guard up, morale down...but you suppose that your expectations were the same.
“Y/N, you really need to rethink this one before it’s too late.” Tony had warned you, but you were so goddamned sick of being warned. You knew exactly what you were doing and you were not going to be stopped, it was time for them to stop pretending like you needed constant guidance.
“Do I, Tony?” You crossed your arms and tapped your foot on the pavement, just on the verge of snapping. “Have some faith in me, why don’t you? Who’s got a better track record of thinking things through: me or you?”
“Seriously, kid, you’re putting everything in jeopardy.” He sounded serious, that was new. “If you get stuck on the wrong side of this, it’s no more avenging for you.”
“Is that a threat?” You raised your eyebrows as Steve glanced at you, making sure that you weren’t having second thoughts. Yeah, right.
“That’s a promise.” Tony honestly looked a little scared. He should be. “Do you remember how hard it was to get you on the team? You were a child—still are, might I add! They said you didn’t belong out here, we said you did. I’m beginning to regret that now.”
“You’re saying they’re gonna demote me?” Could he tell you were stalling? Oof, guess you’ll know soon enough.
“Demote you?” Tony repeated back. “I wish that were it, y/n. You’re gonna get canned, blacklisted. They’re gonna make your life a living hell. You really want to give it all up now? You’ve come so far, don’t throw it all away over Steve’s sentiment.” You’d heard enough of that, now it was time to lose your cool.
“This isn’t all about helping Steve,” you told him while raising your fists, ready to cause some chaos, “I’m sick of taking the fall for you.” Tony rolled his eyes and finally called for backup.
“Underoos!” A blur of red flew in front of you and Steve, disarming your counterpart before the kid rambled an introduction that sounded a bit...off.
“Are you kidding me, Tony? You give me shit for being a kid and then recruit a twelve year old?” You groaned and watched the kid’s masked eyes get wide. “Don’t correct me, bugboy, I don’t care.”
“Yeah, well, he’s on my side so I’m cutting him some slack.” Tony justified his reasoning as you waited just a few more seconds for Scott to get into position.
“That’s enough, are we ready yet? This is starting to get boring.” And then all hell broke loose as Steve got free of webs, Scott threw the first punch, and the rest of your teams took off. That was your chance to strike Tony with a bolt of lightning in an attempt to shut down his suit, but he always had contingencies.
“Nice one, y/n, but I installed a surge protector after the last time!” Tony blasted at you with his repulsors set to stun, only missing you by a hair.
“Oh, yeah? You get one for Rhodes, too?” You asked, switching your aim to the War Machine armor and overloading it until it shut down.
“Seriously, Tony? You didn’t think to upgrade mine, too?” Rhodey groaned while rushing to reboot.
“Get over it!” Tony bickered as you ran by, booking it for the Quinjet. “Vision, don’t let y/n get away!” And then the android was flying towards you.
“I can’t let you go any further, y/n.” He informed, blocking your path and giving you a moment to catch your breath. “It’s not too late to change sides. You could help us all stay together. After all, that’s what we all want.” You took a glimpse behind you at all of your feuding loved ones who were beating each other senseless and although you hated to see it, you would not be backing down so easily.
“I’m not risking innocent lives to stay roommates.” You gave him a quick jolt that’d incapacitate him just long enough for you to escape his grasp, but it wasn’t long before the team called upon you for help.
“Y/N, I need backup!” Steve called over the comms.
“On my way, Cap!” You doubled back and met up with the rest of your team, knowing that this battle had only begun. You looked down the line of allies you had and looked across to allies you’d lost, knowing that this day would change your life forever.
“You guys ready?” You sighed, charging up your fists and deciding on a target.
“Ready for what?” Scott asked as the two lines of super-people began to converge. “Oh, that.” You all picked up the pace and you decided to take the fight to the kid since he’d been causing enough trouble.
“Woah! What was that for?!” He yelped when you gave him a little shock and rubbed is arm. “Am I gonna have a heart attack?”
“You’ll be fine,” you scoffed, still ready to strike again if need be, “and it’s just business, kid. Tony should have known better than to get you involved.”
“Well, Mr. Stark made me this really cool suit, so I’m not complaining.” He shrugged before shooting a web from each wrist, but he’d regret it just as quickly as he acted since you accidentally sent two charges back up the web, sending him flying back.
“Oops...” You covered your mouth and watched to make sure he got back up, or maybe you did give him a heart attack. No, he was getting back up. “Are you good?” You called over.
“Yeah, I’m good!” He gave you a thumbs up and crouched over to catch his breath.
“Just walk it off, kid!” You reused some old advice and were suddenly called on by the person who gave it.
“Y/N, it’s now or never!” You swiveled your head to see Steve and Bucky make a break for it and decided that it was time for you to do the same, so you ran straight past the kid and tried to keep up with the two super soldiers. Thankfully, Wanda gave you a boost so you didn’t get left behind. After Natasha let you past, you and just two of your teammates made it out of there. At least some of you did.
—————
You stood your ground against Tony as he lit up his repulsors, trying to get a clear shot of Bucky or Steve.
“Y/N, you haven’t thought this through at all!” Tony argued with you, trying to get you to see it from his poing of view. “I promise you it’s not too late to turn this all around. I’ll tell Ross you were my double agent or something, anything to keep you from getting thrown in the Raft!” You glanced back at Steve, who was buying into Tony’s rant more than you were.
“He’s right, y/n.” Steve lowered his shoulders some. “I can’t drag you down any more, you can’t come back from this.” You gulped, feeling as something were stuck in your throat. You didn’t think that this battle would lead you here.
“After everything I did to help you, you want to leave me with him?” You asked with tears beginning to brim in your eyelids.
“I don’t want to abandon you, that’s the last thing I’d want to do.” Steve explained. “But I know that Tony’s telling the truth, he won’t let them hurt you. If you get caught with us, they’ll know you’re guilty and you might never come back from it. I can’t let you give it all up for us.” You looked back to Tony, who agreed with Steve for once.
“I’ll make it go away. And I won’t hold it against you, okay? You made me proud, even if you were a pain in the ass.” His hand was still aimed towards Bucky, but you’d yet to budge. This was a big decision you’d have to make. Switching sides just for a bailout? And then Tony’s aim switched to the opposite side of you, just before you felt a hand rest on your shoulder.
“You’d be doing me a favor by keeping yourself in Ross’s good graces, how about that?” Steve tried to reason. “I need you to stay safe, you won’t be safe with us.” You bit down on your tongue and took a deep breath, realizing that you’d have to take the easy way out of this one. You lowered your guard and gave everyone in the vicinity a moment of peace of mind.
“You two are both impossible.” You hung your head and relaxed your tense muscles, knowing that this was no longer your fight.
“Glad you finally realize that, no go wait in the Quinjet.” Tony instructed, patiently waiting for you to leave the blast zone before the three of them got to work. It was about to get much more messy than it did at the airport, they’d rather you miss this part. And even if it broke your heart, they had to do what was best for you. Apparently, it was never too late to start.

Devil may cry parent headcanons
Dante
He probably is a fun dad but at the same time don't leave your kids with him, it would be a disaster
Will wake up to crying at 12 am and try to put the kid back to sleep, ends up with both of them watching tv instead
This man will do anything with your kid, they want to go to the park, sure he'll have to keep an eye on them. They want to see the movies, sure has to be below pg or he will never hear the end of it from the nightmares his kids have. Want to go to the zoo, sure he just needs to make sure they don't go into the exhibit.
He will play dress up and tea time with them. He will put on a dress and have them do his makeup just so he can go to tea time, and might start some beef with Mr teddy for stealing his cupcakes, but he will do it proudly.
He will try to do their hair in the morning for school, again he is not the best at it and will probably give them crooked pigtails, he's trying he really is.
Can't cook for shit, I'm sorry if you think he could cook please take a look at all the pizza box stored around his shop. Like he will take cooking lessons or watch cooking shows but dear god how do you set fire to milk.
He will always be there for his kid to vent even if he doesn't know how to respond he will sit and let them rant about stuff, also trying to cheer them up because he doesn't want to see them sad
If they brought their homework to him he would be confused he can barely pay his bills i don't think he knows how to do math, but drama he will rock that stuff his acting skills are on point even if it's cheesy
Will waste all his money on the kid, toys, clothes, video games, you name it he will buy it and give to the kid
Remember how I said not to leave your kid alone with Dante yeah, he may or may noteave his weapons/devilarms around for the kids to grab them, like halfway of Dante walking into the main room and he sees ebony in his kids mouth he tricksters all the way to them and quickly grab ebony before anything bad happens, but the kid will start crying and he has to find something for them to mess with or he'll get a headache
He accidently devil triggered in front of his kid now depending on which one he get two responses and he's expecting screaming for both, but if its regular dt like humanish looking one, "woah, dad grew scales and wings, are you a lizard king?" Now its his Sin Dt he would get "Oo, daddys a gaint dragon" for both case they will proceed to touch his scales? And will be all over him trying to climb him to the point he literally has to switch out of dt so they don't get hurt. Also he's a heat source for winter if the heating doesn't get paid for.
If his kid comes out as any of the lgbtq+ he would be supportive and loves them for who they are, I also see him being apart of it too.(I know a few people see him as asexual I do too, as well as bisexual)
Vergil
Look this guy probably has no clue what he's doing, even if we wish he could've taken care of Nero (at least I do) he didn't and now he has another kid to take care
Please help him hold the baby, he can't properly do it at all, he's just holding them by their chest and staring at them with confusion as the child cry, "why won't they stop screaming?"
He will get the hang of taking care of the kid, but please don't leave him alone with them for long he still has no clue what he's doing half the time
"Hey can I hang out with (insert name) at the mall?", "Do I know their mom?", "Uh, no", "Do I know their dad?", "No" Then that settles it, you can't go", "But-", "No buts, if I don't know their parents you can't go, and that's finale"
Can he cook, probably but he's been in hell for most of his life and doesn't know what he's doing half the time. Thank god for cooking shows and book he at least tries a learn how to cook, and doesn't burn anything unlike someone else
He will read the kids William Blake or other bed time stories before bed time, and will do activities where they try to make up poems he has to thank Nero for the idea
Speak of Nero, if Vergil has a mission he will leave his kids with him, he's not trusting Dante at all. Nero absolutely loves his step siblings even if their like a few years younger than him, they will either play with the other kids at the orphanages or play Nero which consist of Video games, sometimes sword fights if they beg long enough, or just talk about the stuff their dad and uncle does that are stupid and make fun of them for it.
Also that one dad to try and help with math homework but makes the kid cry because they don't understand the problem and he's yelling at them "What's 2 x 2?" Its traumatizing please someone tell him to cool it or his kid is going to have problems when it comes to yelling and math, also complains how he didn't learn it that way as a kid, I promise you he was homeschooled.
Now his kids can vent to him but he has no clue what to do nor have much good advice but he will give what he knows even if it's not the best.
This can go many ways, this man know his kid is getting bullied he will go down to the school with the Yamato and threaten someone's life, give his kid the sword for them to deal with it instead, or use some brain cells and deal with it like civil people and we hope he chooses the last one
Now he's a little careful with his devil trigger and doesn't want to scare his kids, but its by accident really and he expects screaming, just like Dante he gets two responses. Regular dt and I'm going off of 4 because I don't think he has one in dmc5, "Dad, why didn't you tell me/us your secretly a bug, don't worry well keep you away from shoes." If its Sin Dt, "Wow, your a dragon this whole time, does this mean I'm also a dragon, where do you keep your stashed gold?", I feel like for his regular dt they will sometimes smack him with a fyswatter and he has to turn out of his sin dt quickly because they want to mess with the fire coming out of him.
If his kids come out as lgbtq+ he will be supportive and a little confused because he has no clue what it is. They have to explain what it means and what their sexuality means, he'll still be supportive and loves his kids no matter what they are
Nero
Out of Vergil and Dante, he's probably the one who knows more about taking care of kids since he grew up with them in an orphanage and takes care of them
I feel he's like a mix between Dante and Vergil, Fun dad but will put his foot down on somethings
If its a girl you bet he will go out to a store at whatever time it is and buy then pad/tampon when their monthly comes no questions asked he just knows. If its a dude he will give the talk, not just protection but what not to do, like when a girl tells him to stop he needs to stop, no advancing on or anything like that (I feel like the no advancing will also go for the girl)
Doesn't do favoritism, he hates that stuff since he technically dealt with it as a kid, if one kid ask why he loves the other more than them he will shut that down quickly and tell them he loves them equally and will move moons for them to both be happy
Best cook hands down, and will let his kids help if they want to but keeps them away from sharp objects. He will also take them out to dinner if he doesn't want to cook
He's decent with homework, and goes about it in a fun learning experience for the both of them, if they get an answer right they get a point that they can trade for something special later kne, if they get it wrong they will go over it again, but still get a point because no favoritism. He also help make a volcano, but also put a little extra pizzazz to it, and might have caused the whole kitchen to be a different color now.
His kids can vent to him, he will understand and try to help give advice for some issues, also takes them out of the house to do something they want to do to cheer them up
He will encourage his kids to follow what they want to do, play a sport? He will show up to every game, even if that means giving Dante his mission he will. A club? He will make sure they have everything they need for that club and be on time for it, be it art, book, yearbook, student council, etc. They want to do boy scout/girl scout, he will make sure he gets them a vest and help put pins on as well. He will be the number one supportive dad
As soon as his kid comes to him crying about how some other kid is bullying them he will be mad, he'll reassuring his kid that they are amazing first, then go to the school, if they don't do anything he will go straight to the parent and make sure that their kid doesn't mess with his anymore.
Will watch anime with them, if they agree that is don't want your dad into your stuff. But like he's absolutely into it, he seems like the person to like Bleach (this was not intentional I complete forgot that the voice actor for Nero also did Ichigo) or Cowboy Bebop. Maybe sailor moon but you won't hear him say it
Look he's really new to the devil trigger business, the only thing close he had was that ghost creature, so keeping this thing in check and not popping up randomly is hard. His kids reaction are, "You hair is longer, are you like rapunzel, oh wait you have wings and a crown your an angel. Oh can I braid your hair please," of course he will let them braide his hair he can't say no to a pouting face, they also will poke his wings to see if their real.
He will definitely support his kid if their aprat of the lgbtq+, will buy them flags, merch, you name it. He want his kid to feel safe and loved
Lady and Trish
Look I can't separate these two, when I first saw them I thought they were girlfriends, and I can't let that go. But these two would definitely be the fun and protective mom
So considering Trish and Lady are both females they definitely have to adopt of course, now Lady may not know if its half demon or full, but Trish does and she probably would help the kid when they get older since she knows about the demon body considering she has one, if its human Lady knows the most about the stuff going on when they get older and has I already planned out.
Now Lady has to be the protective mom because the shit happen with her dad she definitely doesn't want anything bad to happen to their kid, and Trish is like you do you kid if you get hurt you learn from it "its the demon way of raising" she says. Though she still will watch over them and make sure they don't get themselves severely hurt
They will buy their kid anything, and take them out shopping. It's like a spin the wheel of pay to see if they will pay for the stuff or put it under Dante's name for shits and giggles
Lady has to like keep her weapons locked up somewhere safe, unlike Dante, she's more careful with her weapons
If their kid is mad or something Trish will take them to some deserted area with some random stuff she found that isn't in use and have their kid throw it in the air so she can blow it up with her lighting, you know to blow steam off
Trish or Lady tell their kid the stupidest thing Dante has done or said, if they visit Dante please note one will scream if Dante says something about a soul, "I should have been the one to fill your dark soul with Light" and get the voice crack right too, he will look so embarrassed
Now Trish might not know anything about homework she'll support the best she can but Lady knows most of the stuff and will help.
Trish will tell their king everything about Hell, who's in charge, what creatures are there, the history of it all. Its a great learning experience until you tell them that the female demons kill the male after finishing mating
If they are out in public and some guy is hitting on their kid and their tell him no, protective mom mode is on. Mostly Lady has to stop Trish from frying thr guy, but Lady will give the man a price of her mind saying if he tries to do this shit again with her kid he will be going home with a foot straight up his ass. So now no man tries to hit on her
Definitely let the kids go venting to them, they give the best cuddled, some good advice, and shopping if they say someone's bullying them they will see that the parent deals with their kid.
They knew their kid was apart of lgbtq+, of course their supportive of who they are, they are dating of course. They will take them to a pride march in June
Kyrie
Look, LOOK, she is an amazing mom, so caring but also will put her foot down on somethings
Besides Nero she is a good cook and baker, while she doesn't want kids in the kitchen while she's cooking will will have them help with baking sweet
Reads bedtime stories and tucks her kids in and kiss goodnight (ugh my heart hurts I love this)
She will play video games with her kids mostly on the wii, she still the champion on Mario Kart and Just Dance no one has taken their spot yet, even Nero tries
Packs lunch for her kids and puts a note in it telling them that she loves them and hope they have the best day
She does worry about them from time to time when they go over a friends house, only because of what happened to her brother and then Nero she doesn't want anything to happen to her kids
Tells them not to climb the tree in their backyard, what does one of them do, they climb it and accidently falls down. She goes to them saying "You know I told you not to do it, and you did it anyways, you need to be more careful and listen to me. I'm not doing this because I'm being uptight I'm doing this for your safety I want you to be able to do the things you want in the future"
I feel like she's the same way with friends like Vergil, if she doesn't know the parents then you can't go out or over their house
She is really a good listener and help with advice, so venting to her is a really great idea also will ask about your feelings and how your doing someday, like she knows your in a sad mood
She also good with homework, I feel like she wanted to become a teacher as well as study for it, but instead stuck with taking care of orphans, so she probably homeschools her kids too
She also makes the kids clothes time to time, they have little sweaters or shirts that are soft and comfortable
She is so supportive of her kids if they come out lgbtq+, she doesn't care as long as their happy thats all that matters.
Nico
Now I love Nico amazing and pretty girl but don't leave a child with her, just like Dante it will be a disaster, but she probably would try to be a better parent than her since he technically wa this weird freaky man who experimented on demons or was weird.
Let's start with teaching the kid every swear word she knows and tells them to go up to Nero call him one of those names, she will hear her name being screamed and find an angry Nero going over to her as she burst into fits of laughter
Will be extra pair of arms when getting a tool they need for fixing the van, when Nero does understand what a Dohicky is
I think Nico can cook, its decent not bad or good, she did nearly burn the van down from trying to cook turkey.
She will try and cut back on smoking or at least not doing it when the kid is around because its bad for them, Nero scoffs because she nags him when he tells her to stop, but not her kids
Now her kids could bring homework to her, like he's good in math, engineering, and probably biology, but she'll act as if she never even seen the stuff in her life, because she wants to get her learn it and not her just giving them the answer. But if their kid is in a science fair I bet she will help make something totally child friendly(its not really), it kind of gets her and her kid ban from doing anymore science fairs.
She will teach then everything she knows about Demon, mostly the biology of it, and when Nero brings a demon part for his breakers, she goes in explain how she turns them into those.
Will tease her kids if they talk about their crush, she's a huge teaser so saying something about someone they really like or anything its a mistake, she will embarrass them in front of their crush, but she means well
If they try to change the channel of the radio she swats their hand saying the driver picks the music and the passenger has to sit and listen.
If she's busy with something she will let Nero and Kyrie babysit her kids, she trust them and the kids love Nero and Kyrie.
Tries to teach her kids how to drive when their of age to learn, but Nero and Kyrie won't let her considering how she drives and that the instructor is more legal to do it.
No but she will tease her kid a bit if they come out lgbtq+ too, of course she supportive I kind of see her being apart of lgbtq+ as well
*Bonus because it seemed reasonable to just put this one here like this*
Nero, Dante, Vergil, Lady, Trish, Nico
They will teach their kid self defense, and how to use a weapon. While they rather their kids have a normal life instead of a demon hunter for many reasons, they at least want their kid to take care of themselves if they find themselves in a situation where their life is on the line

If you’re still taking Ghosts Thomas Thorne prompts, reader is given the house (looks after her niece/nephew), as reader and 3 best friends bring the house back to its former glory - the ghosts think that the child is reader’s baby (or babe?), they call people ‘sweetie’ or ‘hon’ a lot. Someone can see them, and they have a constant stream of TV Series arriving weekly (Game of Thrones, Cheers, How I Met Your Mother, Big Bang Theory) etc. Is that too much? I’m
This isn’t too much at all! Thank you so much for the request :D
I’m accepting requests for every fandom on my masterlist. If there’s anything else you think I might like to watch/add please feel free to let me know! I’m always open to watching new shows/films!
Just a warning about period typical attitudes from Fanny.
Title: A New Love
Everything tag list: @greenrevolutionary
“Have you seen who has just come in?” cried Fanny as she swept into the room, “This house is falling more and more into disrepute by the hour!”
“What’s happened now?” asked Julian, “Another new carpet in place?”
“Worse,” Fanny bristled, “Alison and Mike have invited someone so stay!”
“Another person,” said Pat, “Oh how nice.”
“Nice?” Fanny turned her wrath on Pat, “Nice? She has children with her!”
“That is lovely.” Said Pat, ever the optimist
“And she isn’t even wearing a wedding ring?”
“Err,” Pat said, “I don’t see-“
“Children out of wedlock!” cried Fanny, “Alison has gone too far this time. This… person is going to have to go.”
“What is going on here?” asked Alison, “I heard raised voices and-“
“She has to go!” Fanny demanded before Alison could finish her sentence
“Err, who?”
“The person you just brought in,” Fanny said, “I will not have an unmarried woman and her ba-“
“Woah, woah, woah,” Alison said, “Are you talking about y/n?”
“I do not know her name.”
“The children are her niece and nephew,” Alison said, “And even if they were her biological children I wouldn’t be forcing her to leave. She lives here now.”
“Well, shouldn’t they be with their parents?”
“They’re going through a very messy divorce,” explained Alison, “Y/n thought the children need some stability so she’s being a neutral party and looking after the children until custody is sorted out.”
“A divorce,” Fanny got even angrier, “Well I never!”
The other ghosts watched her and she marched out of the room. Alison looked deflated as she looked around at the others.
“Well?” she asked, “Are any of you-“
“Alison there you are! Who are you talking to?”
Alison stiffened as you entered the room and all the ghosts turned to look at you. There was a soft thump as Thomas, who was lying on the sofa, rolled off of it.
“Umm,” Alison said, “I was on my mobile.”
“Right,” you said although you weren’t convinced, “Mike’s looking for you. We have some ideas about the guest bedrooms and thought you would like to hear them.”
“Sure.”
As Alison walked away with you all of the ghosts were watching you intently.
“Who was that?” asked Thomas dreamily, “The vision who just entered the room? A beauty like no-“
“Oh great,” sighed Pat, “Here he goes again.”
*
While it took some time to adjust to living with Alison and Mike you were happy to say that you had finally settled in. You were paying your way by helping them do renovation work as you used to own a successful business before you sold it. You wiped the sweat off your brow at you looked at the plaster work you had just completed.
You could see why Alison and Mike wanted to keep the house. It was a beautiful period property and you couldn’t help the pang of jealousy settle in the pit of your stomach. However, there were certain goings on in the house that made you question yourself.
In certain areas you always smelt burning but it was never the same place twice. When you brought this up to Alison, advising her to get the electricals seen to, she assured you that everything was fine. The lights flickered at random times, you swore you saw objects move and you were convinced that the house was haunted. You looked up sharply when you heard a familiar theme tune echo through the halls. You looked around and couldn’t see your niece or nephew and quickly paled.
“Shit, shit, shit,” you cursed quietly, “I really hope that they aren’t watching that.”
You ran towards the main living and reached it just in time. Your niece and nephew were in the room and you quickly grabbed the remote and turned off the TV. They were way too young to watch those sorts of programs.
“What have I told you hon,” you said as you took their hands, “To stay where I can see you.”
“TV.” Said you niece
“Not this show dear. It’s for adults.”
You looked up as Alison and Mike burst into the room.
“Shoot,” said Alison, “I am so sorry y/n. I thought we had turned the TV off!”
“Accidents happen,” you said as you led your niece and nephew out of the room, “Just remember what I said about the electrics. Now come on sweeties,” you said to the children, “Let’s get you a snack!”
Alison waited until you were out of ear shot before turned to glare at the ghosts.
“Ghost thing?” asked Mike
“Oh yes,” said Alison angrily, “No more Game of Thrones.”
“But we need to know what happens,” said Pat, “It’s unfair.”
“Now listen here Alison,” said Julian, “I think you’ll want to hear-“
As the room erupted in arguments Thomas separated himself from the group and walked towards the door. He sighed mournfully as he watched you play with the children. If only you could see him like Alison could then everything would be perfect.
*
It was peaceful night and Alison was relaxing with Mike. Just as she raised her glass of wine a scream echoed through the house. She sat up with a jolt and Mike spilled his glass over the carpet.
“Alison!” you screamed running into the room, “Mike!”
“Yes?”
“This place,” you looked around as you pulled your dressing gown around you, “Is haunted.”
“It is.” Said Alison
“What?”
Alison and Mike stood up and Alison put her arm around you. She gently pushed you down on the sofa as Mike handed you a glass of wine.
“There are ghosts.” She said
“Seriously?”
“But only she can see them.” Said Mike
“Are there any in the room with us?”
Alison looked around. Thomas and Kitty were sitting next to you and the others were surrounding the sofa.
“A few.” She said
“A few? How many are there?”
“Umm,” she said, “Anyway, sorry about keeping this from you?”
“I’m just worried about the children.”
“Oh you have nothing to fear,” said Pat even though you couldn’t hear him, “We’ll look after them.”
“Yeah,” said Alison, “They’ll be safe.”
“Alison,” Thomas hissed, “Alison.”
“Shh.” Said Alison
“I didn’t say anything.” You said
“I was talking to Thomas.”
“Who.”
“He’s sitting next to you.”
You jumped and looked to your right.
“On your left,” said Alison, “Kitty is sitting next to you.”
“Fuck.”
“Language.” Said the Captain and Fanny at the same time
“Oh Alison,” said Kitty clapping her hands, “Ask y/n if she’ll be my friend.”
“Kitty wants to know if you’ll be her friend.”
“Umm… sure?”
“Oh goodie!” cried Kitty
“Alison, what about me?” asked Thomas
“I’m not sure Thomas…” said Alison
“What? What’s he saying?” you asked
“I really don’t think that’s a good idea.”
“I want to know,” you said firmly, “You can’t keep these things from me.”
Alison shared a look with Mike who shrugged.
“Your call.” He said
“Alright,” Alison took a deep breath, “Thomas thinks that you are…”
“Yes?” you said
“The most beautiful, sorry, exquisite person he had ever met.”
“Wh… what?” you said blushing
“And he is wondering if you- oh I’m not saying that!”
“Saying what?” you said
“He wants to know if you want to be able to see them.”
“How did you manage to see them?” you asked
“I fell out of a window.”
“And almost died.” Said Mike
“Umm no,” you said standing up quickly, “No, definitely not. Now if you’ll excuse me I need to check on the twins and have a lie down.”
You quickly left the room. Alison closed her eyes and took a deep breath.
“Well that could’ve gone a lot better,” she said, “And Thomas don’t you dare follow her!”
“Separated by time and death,” said Thomas ignoring Alison, “Unchangeable barriers to our love!”
“Oh dear,” said Alison, “I should probably warn y/n.”
“No idea what was said,” said Mike, “But that’s probably a good idea. With what you told me she’s going to need all the luck she can get.”

smart decisions

warnings: drinking, angst, smut, fingering, nsfw, 18+
count: 10k+
hiiiiiiiii so i’m a horndog & i can’t get enough of rafe cameron (or drew) or college rafe & i also wanna cry over them so here you go. let me know whatcha thinkin’. please i’m begging you.
also the photo isn’t mine i got it from here!
songs i imagined - this one & this one
— — —
transferring colleges had to have been your smartest decision to date. going from putting your strengths into a place that was not willing to acknowledge them to, now, receiving credit where credit was most deservingly due. your first choice for school had been some place close to home, you figured why not opt for the cheaper option to save yourself, and your parents, a little money. you spent a few months getting into the swing of things, heading to class each day with a fresh mind and hopeful thoughts. it wasn’t until six months in that you realized you deserved so much better, and at a better school.
it took time, figuring out your best bet and where to go and all the finances. you definitely grew impatient a year in, trying to stick it out at home to receive your credits. but once the moment arrived, you packed all your things and moved states away. you loved it; you loved the classes, you loved your friends, you loved your professors. you were completely happy with your choice to go. your parents might not have been, but the weekly calls home for your progress report were substitute enough.
wednesday, 5 p.m.
you scribbled a doodle you had been going over and over, darkening the lines so much you saw it behind your eyelids now. you snapped out of it and looked back at your textbook.
the library was so quiet, you heard pages being turned from every corner, the chewing of gum from a tense jaw, and the soft snores of someone passed out in one of the private cubicles across the way. none of those things distracted you really since you had come to the study session with a couple of your friends, all three of you making a pact to get shit done.
melly was able to listen to music while she studied and was more of a typer as her fingers moved fast along the keys of her laptop. she came dressed in her comfiest clothes, sporting a knit sweater and joggers. lina had snacks across the table to keep her sustained. she was a strong believer that she learned better while being fed. it made you laugh still. she was a writer like you, very organized in her notes with highlighters and different colored pens. she even drew headers for each page for the hell of it. you wondered where she got the drive. then there was you, black ink, the main topic underlined, things to remember written repeatedly. you learned better after writing things down, you couldn’t just read a book and have the information implanted in your brain. as much as you wished it were that easy.
you were studying for an upcoming psychology test, one that you were sure would be a piece of cake given how well you did in the class itself. it was one you didn’t plan on taking, but you needed another course to get enough credits for the year.
lina was munching on some almonds, turning a page in her notebook, and picking up a blue pen. you were in the middle of writing a definition down and filling up the last of the page, your hand starting to cramp with how much pressure you were using. you flexed it once you put your pen down and squeezed an imaginary ball.
both yours and lina’s eyes flicked up to melly across the table who let out a low moan. she was pulling her headphones off and looking in the completely opposite direction of her computer.
“why is he so fine?” she asked, low enough for the two of you to hear.
you looked over your shoulder at the same time lina did and searched in the general area melly was focused on. all you saw was a guy walking through the library, sporting a backpack and a lacrosse sweatshirt, the hood pulled over his head.
“he really knows what he’s doing, huh?” lina said dreamily.
you furrowed your eyebrows as you watched him turn into a row of books and you glanced at melly as you faced the other way, planning on getting back to your work. melly was dazed as she still looked in his direction.
“who is that?” you asked after a moment of both of them still ogling.
lina turned toward you as melly closed her laptop a little to lean over it. “what did you just say?”
you looked between the two identical shocked expressions and laughed helplessly. “who is that?”
“oh, i forgot. you’re still new.” melly nodded in semi-acceptance then became serious. “that’s rafe cameron. he’s on the lacrosse team and we’re kind of obsessed with him.”
“it’s alarming,” lina said. she gave a quick glance over her shoulder then looked back at her notebook. “i love making myself sad over him not noticing me, but it’s fine. what’s even more alarming is how he’s still single.”
“i cannot express to you, y/n, how good,” melly emphasized, squeezing her eyes shut, “he looks with a little sweat.”
“you guys sound like stalkers.” you pointed out, smiling a little at their explanations.
“i’m not denying it. i said it was alarming.” lina shrugged as she looked from her textbook to her writing. “we’ve talked to him a couple of times at some parties, he’s a super nice guy but we just find him attractive. i think if i were a freshman, i’d be pathetically pining after him.”
melly hummed in agreement, her chin now propped in her palm. she wore a doe-like look, gazing between yours and lina’s heads and into the bookshelves. “don’t they have a game tomorrow? we should go.”
“it’s away.” lina said, but you had already lost interest in the topic and started reading a new chapter. you picked your pen back up, the muscles in your hand now relaxed, and the boy in the bookshelves out of your mind.
monday, 9 a.m.
you were going to be late and you hated the thought. there was no way you could miss this test when you had done nothing but study every last page for it. you even lost track of how many pages of notes you wrote for the test alone. it would be such a waste to miss it and it wasn’t worth getting a negative grade.
being late was not at all your fault. you had set your alarm early, eaten breakfast and read a few more chapters to get ahead, and packed your bag up so you’d be ready after a quick shower. turned out that all the showers on your floor were broken, the yellow “do not cross” tape like a bad omen. you started muttering to yourself as you carried along your shower caddy, going down to the next floor and finding a line to wait in. you knew it was probably your best bet instead of racing to another floor to check if there were more lines, plus you didn’t know how much time you had. you probably annoyed some people with the fidgeting, but all you could think about was the test.
it was ridiculous how long the showers took and how you had to leave your hair damp as you ran back up physical stairs. you burst through your door, threw your bathroom things on your bed, grabbed your bag and the few books you couldn’t stuff in. while leaving, the door shutting behind you, you made do with damp hair, twisting it up and out of your face. as you checked the time, you figured out that you had eight minutes exactly to get across campus and in your seat with a writing utensil ready.
even though you were late, you still held doors open for people, and you dodged others walking the opposite direction instead of the other way around. you kept checking the time as if the minutes would stop moving.
just as you were looking into your bag, your legs moving fast and assuredly, you ran right into something hard. you dropped the textbooks that you had been clutching, even with a death grip on them, and your bag slipped from your shoulder. a notebook poked out along with a pen rolling away on the walkway.
“woah,” the hard surface said.
“i’m so sorry, i was not looking.” you said quickly and bent down to get your things. of course, this would happen while you were in a rush. you supposed you were lucky it didn’t involve cars. god, that would’ve been so much worse.
“nah, it’s alright.” they said easily and bent down beside you, retrieving your things.
you scrambled for everything and shoved the notebook back into your bag. you spotted your keychain near their foot, their fingers closing around it before you could reach for it. you finally looked up as they held the key out to you, the ring hanging from their finger.
rafe cameron.
he looked different now that you could see his face better. and also, because he was so close this time. it was odd to know now that he had blue eyes and a light ghosting of stubble along his jaw and cheeks. it felt too personal being this close to someone you only knew the name of.
you felt a little silly for bumping into him, but you didn’t let it show. “thank you,” you said as you took the key from him and stood quickly to walk away. lina and melly surely wouldn’t give this up when you told them.
rafe had watched after you for a moment before turning back to his friend topper, raising his eyebrows in reference to what happened, and continuing their conversation.
you made it to class about three minutes late and sat in your seat, finally taking a breath. you settled in, putting your things at your feet, and digging around for a pen. all thoughts of bumping into rafe cameron left your mind.
8 p.m.
“you what?” melly coughed violently as she composed herself. lina was clutching her stomach, nearly dying of hysterics when the drink came out of melly’s nose a second earlier.
you held your head in your hands and inwardly groaned at having to tell the story. you were out to dinner with the two girls, munching on french fries and milkshakes. it was typical for you three to hang out on mondays since melly usually had a bad case of them each week. you had innocently slipped in that you just so happened to run into rafe cameron this morning and well, you hadn’t expected that to be melly’s reaction.
“i ran into him. i was late this morning and i wasn’t looking.” you could feel the embarrassment settle in as you recounted the minor event, at least to you.
“did he say anything?” her eyes were blown wide as she leaned across the table.
“i didn’t try to have a conversation with him.” you shrugged and picked at the plate of fries at the center of the table. melly gave you a look of mild bewilderment, the shock of it wearing off.
“missed opportunity.” lina joked, taking a long sip of her shake. “i wouldn’t know what to say either if i ran into him.”
you felt your shoulders loosen as the topic was slowly changing. melly laughed at lina’s remark, teasing her that she would’ve frozen up from bumping into anybody. you smiled and were glad that both of them didn’t take the story too seriously.
minutes later you were laughing loudly, head thrown back as melly was telling a story about her family and a public mishap with a tire. it was interesting to you to hear about what it was like growing up in a completely different environment than the one you did. you supposed that’s something you loved about college; getting to meet people from so many other states and cities.
you were smiling to yourself as you dipped a fry into your shake. just as you put it into your mouth and looked across the table at melly, her composure changed.
“oh, fuck.” she whispered and noticeably tried to look away. “don’t look.”
both you and lina turned around to look toward the front door. a dense group of bodies was coming in through the door, the atmosphere’s volume increasing with their chatter. toward the back you recognized rafe cameron. you weren’t sure at all what it was that made your heart clench in your chest.
“i said don’t look!” melly whispered louder. “oh, god. okay. act normal.” melly straightened up, trying not to be obvious with looking in their direction. you laughed and sat back in the seat. lina practically sunk into hers.
you didn’t watch as they approached, but you did look up once rafe entered your peripheral vision. he was with the guy from this morning, even if you hadn’t noticed him before. you just remembered rafe crouched in front of you while someone just as tall stood behind him, waiting. both of them were sporting lacrosse sweatshirts, along with some others in the group.
“hey, rafe.” melly said easily like she hadn’t just been freaking out over him a second ago.
you watched rafe lift his chin, smiling genuinely at her. you didn’t think anything of it when he glanced at you, the recognition so obvious as his face changed. he continued to walk to his table though, eyes steady on you for what felt like too long.
melly turned around and sank over the table, her mouth open in shock. “oh my god,” she said above the surface.
“oh my god,” lina said, turning to you in bafflement. “i feel like i’m in an alternate universe. did that just happen?”
“he just recognized me.” you brushed it off.
“no, y/n, he knew you. that was longer than five seconds.”
“why are you guys so obsessed with him anyways?” you laughed, trying to take the attention off you.
lina shrugged, seeming taken aback with the question. “i don’t really know.”
“because he’s gorgeous, that’s why.” melly intervened, dipping a fry into her shake.
you looked over melly’s shoulder, wondering what it was exactly that was so intriguing about the lacrosse player. you had had your fair share of athletes and could agree on some being drop dead gorgeous. maybe rafe cameron was just a nice guy all around and melly and lina just had pleasant interactions with him. maybe he was the type of college boy that looked out for everyone’s wellbeing and that’s what made your friends obsess over him. it could be a number of things.
thursday, 8 p.m.
you rubbed your eyes, yawning in the middle of it, and lay back on your bed. you had just closed your computer after typing up a 10-page essay. it was nine when you started it this morning. you were just glad your one class of the day was canceled and that you had time to write the paper before next week. plus, there were no classes tomorrow, and you could have a whole day of doing nothing. you were stoked, to say the least.
feeling a vibration beside you, you reached for your phone and opened a text from lina. incoming in 5, it said, followed by a rattling of knocks on your door. you rolled off the bed and shuffled over, finding her and melly with wide smiles. it was infectious as you felt your own smile appearing on your face.
“what are you guys doing here?” you asked curiously, stepping aside to let them in. the door clicked softly shut as you followed melly to your bed where she went to sit. lina leaned against the wall across from you, careful of your roommate’s things.
“we were invited to a party and we were wondering if you wanted to come with.” lina said, sharing a quick look with melly.
you glanced between them, eyes narrowing. “what’s so special about this party?”
“god, how can you even tell that?” melly asked, slightly rolling her eyes.
“you guys have known each other longer than i've known either of you, but you’re easy to read.” you laughed.
“i don’t like that.” melly said quietly to herself.
you grinned at her, noting her curls springing around her face. melly usually had her hair pulled back out of the way and it was very rare to see her with a different hairstyle. there had been some days where she had braids and you enjoyed seeing the change of pace. lina on the other hand always let her hair down. tonight though, she had straightened it and thrown it into a high ponytail. you hadn’t really gone to a lot of parties with the girls, so seeing them all done-up was always fascinating.
“seriously, what’s the deal?” you asked again, looking to lina since she was the one who had proposed the idea.
she shared another look with melly again before finally coming out with it. “it’s at rafe cameron’s apartment.”
you felt that clenching again in your chest, in that same spot from last night. you swallowed, feeling how dry your mouth was in the span of three seconds.
“well, it’s his and topper’s apartment, so not technically just his.” lina said, waving her hand in enunciation. she crossed her arms. “i have this study group with topper and he invited me and mel and anyone else really.”
“come on, it’ll be fun.” melly said, nudging your arm.
you looked at the girl beside you, ready to say no mostly in panic of seeing rafe. you had nothing to worry about or freak out over, but it was a scary thought. so many things happened at parties. so many things could happen.
“okay,” you said easily.
the prior fears dissipated quickly as lina and melly gave a small cheer and encouraged you to get ready, and to take your time. you spent the next ten minutes asking them what you should wear, going through your side of the closet. all three of you agreed on a plaid skirt you had bought a few weeks before on a spontaneous shopping trip. you only wore it once since then and had been meaning to pull it out again. you paired it with a sweater, something easy to keep you warm through the night instead of bringing a jacket along. lina and melly agreed excitedly when you changed and raised your eyebrows, searching for approval.
9 p.m.
holding on tightly to lina’s hand, you laughed hysterically to the point of tears and a clear indicator in the nether region that you had to pee, badly. a connie bailey rae cover was playing from a speaker near you, your laughter probably not as loud as you thought it to be as you calmed down. melly stopped her ridiculous reenactment and pulled an exaggerated disgusted face as she dodged someone trying to dance with her. you shook with laughter and took a long sip of your drink, tilting your head back to finish it in one gulp.
the party had been way more fun than you thought it would be, especially when you walked the four blocks to get there. lucky for you, you had been smart and worn flat boots. the apartment was a good size for the event and had plenty of space to gather, enough left over for those that wanted a break from either dancing or just to relax. some people you didn’t recognize had the large tv on, a video game on the bright screen. there was plenty of shouting coming from their general direction, a wave of arms and pointing of rigid fingers.
you had seen rafe in passing, but never made the initial eye contact as if to let each other know that you were near. stepping into the apartment and being greeted with his friend topper, you felt like you were intruding or trespassing by being in rafe’s space. you didn’t know him, or topper for that matter, and it felt odd to you to be in their physical home.
“where’s the bathroom?” you asked lina as melly went to get more snacks.
lina stood up on her toes and pointed at a closed door. “i'm pretty positive it’s over there.”
you gave her a nod and walked in the direction she pointed you in, finding a couple people waiting against the wall. you took a place there and acted as a fly on the wall for a total of five minutes since the line went fast. once inside, you took a deep breath, feeling refreshed at the open window and the cool air coming in.
you dried your hands and placed the towel back where it was on the counter and opened the door. the next person waiting rushed in rather quickly, making you stumble against the doorway. you laughed to yourself and felt the rush of sudden wind as the door slammed.
excusing yourself past a small group, you headed toward the refreshments. you were already thirsty after having emptied your bladder seconds before, but you were aware it was just the addictive alcohol buzzing through your system. it was crowded closer to the drinks, rightfully so, and it only took one person to move for you to see rafe acting as a stand-in bartender.
part of you wanted to run right back out of the kitchen and find lina and melly, but the other part of you wanted to give a swift kick to your rear. you chose the latter and walked over to where he was at the counter. he was in the middle of pouring someone else’s drink and you stood on his other side, taking in his appearance while you still could. the blue hat on his head read “obx”, turned backwards. he wore an off-white t-shirt, the graphic design on the back drawing you in. you were too busy staring at his shoulders molded with the fabric to realize he had turned around and you were now staring at his chest. you blinked up at his face, smiling lightly.
“hi.” he said, a small lilt to his voice as he recognized you once again.
“hi.”
“can i get you something?” he asked, and you felt your shoulders falter a little, thinking that was all he was going to say to you. stick to his image of drink tender and have you go on your way. but his body told you differently as he turned fully to face you.
“um, i can get it.” you said, the instant flight taking effect at the very prospect of being shot down.
rafe nodded and stepped out of the way, moving further into the corner of the counter. you smiled at him and poured your own drink, mixing up your favorite. rafe still stood there and you could feel the strong vice his eyes had on you. it made you a little self-conscious, but you relaxed with a deep breath.
“i never got your name.” rafe said just as you took a sip and turned to leave the kitchen. “you know, from the other day.”
“that’s because i was too busy bumping into you.” you let out a small laugh and stepped closer to him, out of the way if someone wanted a drink. you turned your back to the fridge and tried to find a spot to lean on as rafe looked down at you, a smile playing at his lips. “i am sorry about that again. i was in a rush for a class.”
“it’s no problem. i’m just glad you’re okay, we hit pretty hard.”
“y/n.” you said and held out a hand respectfully.
“rafe,” he slipped his hand into yours, warm and strong, and smiled widely.
“i think i’ve heard your name only a million times in the past week.” you admitted, knowing that lina and melly would kill for brownie points. “my friends are a bit obsessed with you and fully willing to educate the newbie.”
“obsessed, huh? lina and mel, right?”
you nodded and took another sip. rafe reached on the counter and grabbed a handful of pretzels. he held some out to you. “they’re nice girls,” rafe said easily. “i’ve hung out with them a couple times, but i didn’t know they were obsessed.” he laughed to himself.
you munched on a pretzel and froze at an idea. “you’re not going to tell them i told you, are you?”
“not unless you want me to.”
you stared at him for a bit longer than you planned, then let out a breath and took another pretzel from his hand. it was odd to be sharing food with him when just the other day you felt like your heart was tearing in your chest. at the moment, you could only feel a dull ache.
“so, how do you like it?” rafe asked.
“like what?”
“campus, the college.”
you nodded and swallowed some of your drink to wash the pretzels down. “things have been really great. i enjoy it here. it’s an immense difference than my first college back home, so i’m happy.”
rafe smiled. “and the party?”
you followed his nod to the people around you, glancing to your original spot where you left lina. you didn’t see her anywhere until some people moved and you found her and melly sat on the couch. they were playing the video game with a whole mess of guys. you grinned.
“the party is great.” you commended, looking back at him. he had finished the rest of the pretzels in his hand.
“good.” he nodded. “i always get nervous when top and i invite people over. we’ve done it a bunch of times, but there’s always the possibility of something going wrong.”
“well, you’re doing great. both of you. hopefully, nothing horrible happens.”
11 p.m.
you would be lying if you said that your conversation with rafe from hours ago wasn’t still running through your head. it was difficult not to think about it when you kept seeing him more often throughout the party. most of the time you’d catch his eye, or vice versa, and instantly smile. you’d then recall the sound of his laugh and would even hear it from feet away. the clenching in your chest was now accompanied by a swirling in your stomach.
you were pacing yourself with your drinks, but by now you were on your fifth of the night. you were completely aware of everything around you and you were enjoying the ongoing buzz. lina and melly were a bit more inebriated than you were, which only added to the fun.
the two girls in front of you were swaying to a song together, not even close to being slow tempo. it was very upbeat, the bass pumping through the walls. the front door to the apartment was now open since it had begun to get warmer with the more and more people that were joining. a few windows were thrown open as well.
“you remember how in freshman year you fell down that flight of stairs and twisted your ankle and practically bashed your head in and then your mom yelled at you and then your sister called to tell you she was pregnant and then your dad! oh my god, and then your dad was like ‘hey i’m thinking of leaving your mom so uh, yeah’ and then your mom was so pissed but then she was fine because she found a total hunk of a man to replace your dad like that,” melly snapped her fingers as your body started to shake with laughter. lina was laughing too, not at all bothered with a quick recap of her, very shitty, first year.
“yes, thank you for reminding me mel. i love when we have tantalizing conversation like this.” lina leaned her head against the others’.
mel giggled, a few hiccups escaping. “i think i need to pee.”
“god, you’re like a peeing machine.” lina sighed and tightened her arm around melly.
“that’s what drinking will do to you.”
lina rolled her eyes and looked at you as she brought melly to the bathroom. you asked quickly if she needed help, but she shook her head and promised they’d be back soon. you watched them go then turned back to the party, turning too fast and not feeling the presence behind you in the moment. a cool liquid pooled over and down your chest, soaking the fabric of your sweater. you gasped at the contact, your mouth dropping open and looking down at the dark stain.
“i— “ you looked up to tell the person it was fine before an apology came out, finding that off-white t-shirt on a very familiar blue-eyed person. “we have to stop meeting like this.”
rafe looked horrified at having spilled his drink all over your sweater, his eyes wide as they stared at your chest.
“that’s the most cliché thing to say.” you said, laughing lightly to ease the tension so obvious in his features.
he let out a laugh too. “you can borrow something of mine. come on,” he held out his hand and you took it willingly, realizing some people were staring at the accident way too curiously. you let rafe lead you up the stairs, the complete darkness on the landing causing you to focus solely on his hand in yours.
rafe opened a door and flipped a light on, your eyes adjusting to the brightness. he led you further in and closed the door behind you before rushing to his dresser, a whole display of cologne bottles on top. as he rummaged through the drawers, you stood just in front of the door, a little timid to step further in. you were holding your sweater away from your chest, already feeling the stickiness of liquid on your skin.
“how’s this one?” he asked, holding out a simple white one.
“you don’t have to give me a shirt.”
“it’s the least i can do. the bathroom is right there.” he handed the shirt to you and nodded just behind your shoulder. you thanked him and went in, closing the door with a click. you pulled the sweater off and dampened a washcloth, wiping the dried drink from your skin. pulling the shirt on, you relished in how soft it was and styled the piece of fabric so it looked better with your skirt.
rafe was sitting on a couch next to his bed, more like a futon, his hands in his pockets and hat off his head. he looked up as you came out, straightening his posture and looking you up and down.
“i’m sorry.” he smiled guiltily.
you smiled and walked over, moving around the small circular coffee table and sitting next to him. “guess it was payback for the other day,” you teased as you folded your sweater and set it next to you.
rafe rolled his eyes with a knowing smile. you glanced at him as you leaned back, feeling the softness and rigidness of the futon. “you look good in my shirt.”
“i feel better in a less damp one.” you said, easing the fluttering in your stomach. your chest clenched again as you crossed your legs.
glancing around rafe’s room, you admired the movie posters on the walls and the multiple lacrosse paraphernalia. one of his jerseys lay crumpled at the end of his bed, the comforter pulled over the pillows to look made. it was better than you did with your bed, you were pretty sure yours was unmade and messy.
it was a decent sized room, plus the bathroom was nice to have. you’d kill for your own bathroom again. it would be nice not to wait in a line. you told yourself that you just had to figure out an earlier schedule so you could beat the crowd.
after a once-over of rafe’s room, you looked over at him to find him already looking at you. he was fully analyzing your face, you could see his eyes flickering to different parts.
you swallowed and licked your lips. “what?”
“nothing.” he said quickly and sighed, laying his head back on the couch.
you squinted at him, now tracing over his features. he looked nervous from what you could tell, his hands moving in his pockets. you stared at his chest moving up and down slowly, the intake of breath coming as it grew bigger. his adam’s apple protruded, bobbing slightly as he swallowed. your chest clenched once again as you looked at his face, watching him look up at the ceiling. he really was handsome. you shifted in your seat, switching your leg over the other.
“that look wasn’t nothing.” you commented, breathing in.
“what look?” he turned his head toward you, eyebrows slightly pushing together. you watched every change in his face, from his eyebrows to his eyes blinking then to his tongue peeking out to lick his lips.
“the look of ‘i want to eat you up’.”
he laughed, the couch shaking with him. “what does that entail?”
“major gazing and bedroom eyes.”
“bedroom eyes, huh?” he hummed and lifted his head. his lips tugged at a smirk.
“am i imagining things?” you asked seriously, slightly doubting if you made the right call. maybe he wasn’t thinking what you thought he had been. maybe you were imagining things.
rafe didn’t answer, instead looking down at the floor. the smirk alone told you that you had been right. his hands flexed in his pockets, hard for you to miss. a few silent minutes passed, the both of you listening to the party still going on downstairs.
“if you want to kiss me, all you have to do is ask.” you said quietly. after a moment you figured he hadn’t heard you, that he had lost himself in staring at the carpet.
“can i?”
“yes,” you nodded.
rafe sat up and met your eyes, moving closer until his thigh was touching yours. you shifted your upper half closer to him, feeling a wave of shivers run through you the second his hand touched your cheek. you instinctively pressed your legs tighter together as your heartbeat picked up and rafe lowered over you, licking his lips once more. they were soft and firm, just as they needed to be. he tilted your chin up, his thumb brushing just beside your mouth as you kissed.
seconds later, you brought your own hands to his face. you were eager to touch him, to feel the solidness of him against you. it was mostly a reassurance that this was in fact happening and that you weren’t dreaming. you pushed a hand into his hair just behind his ear and mirrored the last few pecks he was leaving you before he fully pulled away. you felt a pinch of disappointment, the small taste for him now growing bigger. you had to stop your hands from pulling him back.
he pulled away only a little and you opened your eyes to see him still so close and looking over your face. your breaths mingled together.
“what?” you huffed, letting your head fall back for a second in slight irritation. you just wanted to kiss him again. you let your hand slide down from his hair, resting near his shoulder. you wanted to squeeze the muscle under your hand.
“nothing.” he said again, eyes flickering down to your lips once more. he smiled, holding himself up on the back of the couch. his thumb brushed the same spot on your cheek. “don’t tell anyone, but i’ve been imagining this since you showed up tonight.”
you returned your hand to his hair, slightly scratching with a smile. “i knew you spilled your drink on purpose.”
rafe grinned widely and moved back into you. this kiss was deeper, your lips opening for him when you felt his tongue. his hand left your cheek and appeared on your hip, ever so slightly pushing your shirt up so he could touch your skin at your waist. you smiled against him as you felt his hand slowly creep up the shirt. you were reminded again that it was his and you pulled him closer by the back of the neck, hearing a soft moan leave his lips. your thighs squeezed, your excitement starting to rise.
“you just gave it to me and now you want to take it off?” you teased as rafe’s hand covered one of your breasts, the cool air of the room reaching your skin. rafe smiled and kissed you again.
his hand disappeared, apparently changing his mind, and reappeared on your thigh. you breathed in sharply at the warmth coming from his palm, resting just above your knee. your brain started to spaz for a moment and you imagined a bunch of smaller yous, running in circles like their heads were cut off.
rafe’s hand stayed steady as you uncrossed your legs, a silent invitation. he moved to kiss the corner of your mouth. “is this okay?”
the fact that he was pulling away multiple times to check in on you had to be evidence enough of why lina and melly liked him so much. you hadn’t met many guys that were so in tune with consent or caring about what you wanted. it turned you on seeing it coming from him.
“yes.” you nodded as you touched his forearm, not wanting to seem too eager.
you anticipated his hand moving and when it did, you held back the moan. you were much too eager for teasing and he was showing no signs of not giving you want you wanted. as he got closer to you, you placed your hand over his. he pulled you back for a kiss and you decided to focus on that for a moment to lessen your nerves.
his touch was soft once he met your underwear. his fingers pressed over you and you shivered from how wet you had become because of him. he hummed into your mouth, only adding to the pooling between your legs. his hand reached back and pushed your skirt further up so he could get to you more easily.
you let out a satisfied sigh against his lips as he ran a finger through your folds, collecting your wetness. your underwear had been pushed to the side, out of the way, finally feeling his touch.
“are you this wet for me?” he asked. you nodded against his forehead and pulled him back, letting out a moan as he brushed over your clit. it was only for a second, but you were about ready to burst.
you opened your legs wider for rafe, his fingers moving over you and exploring the new area. you gripped his hand to silently ask him for more along with an impatient moan. you wanted his fingers so badly in places you weren’t ready to admit yet. he wanted the opposite.
“talk to me.” he said, nudging the side of your face with his nose, planting a kiss to your jaw. you opened your eyes that had fallen shut, your breath getting heavier. your chest felt like it was going to cave in.
“please,” you said, adjusting your hips. “please, touch me.”
“i am.” he pulled away, a menacing smirk on his face just to gauge your reaction.
you huffed out and pulled his hand closer. “you know what i mean, rafe.”
“i like when you say my name.” he pressed a kiss to your lips sweetly.
“i might like when you touch me, so get on with it already.”
rafe laughed huskily, his breath blowing over your face. “you want my fingers?”
you wanted to roll your eyes at how badly he wanted you to beg, but you wanted his fingers more. “yes, please. i want your fingers. give me something.”
you let go of his hand as he finally pushed a finger into you. you adjusted around him for a moment and felt the need to close your legs to keep him there. he pulled your lips back to his, his tongue quick to lick into you. you held his face again as his finger started to move inside of you.
“you want another, pretty girl?” he asked after a few moments passed. you nodded again, breathing hoarsely, too intoxicated in him to speak. a second finger pushed into you then, stretching you ever so slightly. you sighed, letting your head fall back to the couch.
“you’re so wet.” he said as he moved his fingers, delighting in the sounds he was making with you in the palm of his hand. “you’re taking my fingers so well, y/n. do they feel good?”
you moaned as he said your name for the first time. it was something you didn’t think you’d like so much, but with the current situation, it was wonderful.
rafe’s lips appeared on your neck. you held the back of his head as he pressed a few kisses then closed his lips over a spot closer to your collarbone. if your breath had been short then, it was even shorter now as he worked to leave a mark on you. with all the attention you were getting, it only brought you closer to your release, and you started to move your hips. he freed your skin, startled at your movements, then amazed as he watched you chase his fingers. the spot he left throbbed now, all your blood rushing to two places at once.
“are you going to come?” he asked as you heard the start of song you had been replaying for the past few weeks. it was muffled and you could barely hear the words, but you knew it by heart.
“yes, fuck.” you looked up at him, taking in the sight. he was breathing over you, his eyes never straying too far from yours as your mouth opened in pleasure. “rafe, make me come.”
you squeezed your eyes shut as he kissed you hard, breathing deeply into your mouth. he reached his thumb to your clit and began to draw circles at a normal pace with his fingers. your stomach started to twist, the familiar feeling forming fast as he picked up the pace. he could tell you were close by the sheer dig of your fingertips on the back of his neck. it only edged him on more to bring you to your climax.
“come on my fingers.” he said, eyes half closed as he looked at you, lips brushing over yours as he spoke. you whimpered and felt your hips twitch before stilling completely, trapping rafe’s hand between your legs, as you came undone. his thumb continued to move to help you through it. your jaw went slack, eyes rolling under your eyelids, as you moaned loudly. you felt an overwhelming sense of content, the adrenaline rush coming and going quickly.
your blood pumped in your ears and it took you a few moments to register rafe giving you subtle kisses all over the underside of your jaw. you breathed in shakily and let your head fall back on the couch, your knees separating. rafe took his hand away and you winced as he did. you already missed the contact.
the moment was completely ruined as his name was called up the stairs. rafe’s lips disappeared from you as he looked toward the door. you didn’t know what came over you as you pulled your skirt down over your thighs, the footsteps heavy outside his door before a couple of his friends burst in.
“guys, come on. get the fuck out!” he shouted in annoyance, sitting up completely, his leg still touching yours.
“woah, sorry.” they said as they took in your presence. you shifted and knew that they could probably tell what you and rafe had been doing. they evidently didn’t care as they went into a whole spiel of something that had taken place downstairs. rafe tried to stop them and their alcohol-induced exuberance.
he looked at you over his shoulder, touching you lightly on the knee. “i'm sorry.” he said, his friends not hearing as they talked to one another. “i'll see you downstairs?”
part of you felt completely stupid when he said it, like everything that had happened moments ago was just an imagination. you felt your shoulders slump, but you nodded and got up anyways. the door was quick to close behind you and you were left in the dark landing, leaning against the wall to catch your breath. you smoothed your hair, took a deep breath, and fixed your underwear and skirt again.
your eyes adjusted gradually as you went down the stairs back into the swing of things. you swallowed, your mouth still dry post-climax. you went into the kitchen and filled up a cup with water, downing it slowly and stepping out of the way of some people. you couldn’t help but feel drained as you watched the people around you, laughing, dancing, and drinking. you had just spent the last 30 minutes in rafe cameron’s room and now you didn’t know what to do with yourself.
“y/n!” you looked up at melly coming toward you, her makeup slightly smudged, but that didn’t change how great she looked. “there you are!”
you gave her an assured smile and finished the water in your cup. “hey.” you tried not to let anything show.
“lina and i are ready to go if you want to come with. i think we’re going to get some food somewhere in town. i was thinking curly fries or a veggie burger. lina is dying for— wait, where did you go? we looked everywhere.” her expression suddenly changed to one of concern as she stepped closer to you.
“i— uh, well clearly not everywhere.” you said shamelessly, feeling your neck grow warm.
melly opened her mouth to say something then stopped. “oh my god, why are you so flushed? what happened to your sweater?” she looked at the shirt, her eyes catching on something near your collarbone. her eyes went wide as you tried to hide the mark. “oh my god!”
monday, 4 p.m.
“i was thinking that it could go more like this,” your friend said as she pressed a few buttons on her laptop. a new beat started from the computer, the screen following along with the track. you bobbed your head along with the beat.
the campus coffeeshop was somewhere you liked to go, mostly to meet your friends, but you also enjoyed the coffee. sometimes before class you’d make it just in time to get an extra scone before they were all gone. it was a cozy place too, filled with older antiques and an endless display of guitars on every wall. sometimes they’d have an open mic for students, letting anyone with any sort of musical or comical talent perform. most of the acts were later in the week though so no one had to worry about coursework.
after your classes today, you had met up with a friend you hadn’t seen in a while. she was eager to show you what she had been working on for her musical composition classes and you had expressed that you were willing to listen.
the past weekend had been spent mulling over a certain party and a certain someone you couldn’t seem to forget. not that you tried to, to be fair. you’d hadn’t seen him since, which was nothing new given the amount of times you had encountered the boy since that day on campus or seen him for the first time in the library. you didn’t find things weird, but things were left upspoken and it had been bothering you. you knew that melly or lina could’ve easily gotten his number for you, had you asked, but you couldn’t bring yourself to, nor did you know what you would say. all you could do was hope that he was doing well and maybe, perhaps, thinking of you too.
it was inevitable to escape having to talk about what happened in rafe’s room with melly and lina. you weren’t willing to share all of the details right down to what he smelled like, but you didn’t deny that nothing occurred. they seemed satisfied when you recounted having to change your sweater and rafe being kind enough to offer you one of his shirts.
speaking of the shirt, you had gone to your dorm that night and taken it off, seeing that “cameron” was written on the back, along with a large number. no doubt it was for lacrosse. the prospect of it made you shiver before folding it up to leave on your desk. you hadn’t touched it since.
“christ, i've got a meeting with my advisor soon.” your friend said, quickly exiting the program on her screen and closing her computer. “thank you again so much for listening. i can’t express how relieving it is to have someone do this.”
you waved her off with a sweet smile and packed up your own things. “i'm always around if you need a first-time listener.”
both of you stood and pushed the metal chairs in. you followed her to the exit, listening to her as she explained the reasoning for her upcoming meeting. both doors opened, the one from her pushing and the other from rafe coming in. you looked up as he met your eyes, and you couldn’t deny how good it was to see him.
“hey,” he smiled at you as all three of you paused.
before you could say anything, the words sticking to your tongue, you looked back to your friend. she was looking between the both of you, unsure of what was going on. you swallowed and acknowledged her. “i’ll see you later?”
a small smile came onto her face as she looked at rafe then back to you and nodded. the door closed softly behind her. you looked back at rafe as you felt his hand ghosting over your forearm.
“hi,” you said finally.
“it’s good to see you. come up with me?” he gestured to the register and you nodded, letting him take your hand. you didn’t think too much of it as you stood alongside him as he ordered. when the cashier asked if there would be anything else, rafe looked at you expectantly. you blanked for a second, remembering that you didn’t get a drink earlier when you first arrived. you had immediately gone for a sandwich, satisfied that that would be your dinner.
rafe pulled out his wallet and paid for the two drinks. he then led you toward the pick-up counter and faced you with a soft smile. “how have you been?”
“okay,” you breathed in deeply. you weren’t exactly sure how to answer. were you supposed to tell him how freaked out you had been? no, you decided, best not to. “the weekend was busy.”
“mine too. i've got practice tonight so i thought i’d stop by for some energy. i’m glad i ran into you.”
you refrained from asking him if he was serious. you could see on his face that he was with the way he looked at you. “rafe—”
before you could say much of anything else, rafe’s hands appeared on your cheeks and his lips pressed to yours. you kissed him back just as gently even though you wanted to do more now that you felt him again. he pulled away as his order was called, turning to thank the barista as he took the two cups.
“come to my place to study? after practice, i mean.” he said as he held your cup out to you. you looked at it then back up at his questioning eyes, a sliver of hope in them. you pushed down the question at the tip of your tongue and accepted the coffee.
“we’re just studying?”
rafe beamed and nodded. “i have a huge test tomorrow that i can’t fail, so yes.”
7 p.m.
before parting ways with rafe earlier he had finally taken your phone and put his number in it, but not before taking an odd photo of himself. it made you laugh watching it happen though. he promised that he would be done with practice around now and you left your dorm a little earlier than you planned to. it was out of pure thrill really.
knocking on the front door, you waited patiently for it to be answered. you shifted the books in your arms as you heard soft footsteps behind the door. rafe opened it, standing in loose-fitting clothes with damp hair. he smiled instantly and welcomed you in.
it was a drastic difference compared to the party. the house was eerily quiet, so quiet you could hear a pin drop. rafe turned to you from the door.
“how many books did you bring?” he asked seriously, glancing at them against your chest.
“just two,” you said defensively only until you saw the grin. you rolled your eyes and turned away from him to kick your shoes off.
he was chuckling to himself as he went into the kitchen and pulled out snacks to have. “do you want anything to drink?”
“water would be great.”
“smart choice. less sticky.” he said, his back to you, but you could hear the satisfied tone of his voice at his remark.
once he gathered drinks and a plate of snacks, he led you upstairs. it was brighter this time with his door already open and lights already on. you glanced at the other closed one down the short hall, finding the sliver underneath completely dark. maybe topper wasn’t home.
“how was practice?” you asked, setting your things down. he placed the plate on the coffee table and took a seat on the floor. you brushed your hair away from your face and sat down beside him.
“good. just ran some drills, normal practice stuff.” he shrugged, munching on a chip.
“is topper not home?” you set your books on the table and opened them up to where you had marked. rafe moved to grab his things from his bag sitting on the couch. he copied your actions and pulled out a pencil and a notebook.
“no, he went out with some of the guys for food.” he said easily, opening to a blank page. you watched curiously as he wrote down the topic he was studying for.
both of you fell into a silence as you started to read from your books. you were worried about it being a strange silence, knowing what happened the last time you were in this room. it was fairly difficult to push it out of your mind and to focus when rafe was right next to you, so close, along with the thoughts and memory of his touch. you pushed everything out of your head and concentrated back on the page you were reading from.
it wasn’t long when rafe’s hand appeared on your bent leg. they were crossed under you and he had placed his hand like it belonged over the side of your knee. you looked at him in your peripheral but didn’t see him look up once to acknowledge that he had in fact done that. instead you let it happen, ignoring the way it warmed up your skin. you swallowed in anticipation of him interrupting your studying session to turn it into a quick make out session, but the longer the minutes passed the longer his hand stayed where it was. after a while, you forgot about it.
if you had taken one look at rafe, with no prior knowledge of him or of the way his hands felt on you, you would have never guessed that he becomes so engrossed in studying. for the whole two hours that you both spent together with your noses in textbooks, he hadn’t once started a conversation. he kept at reading and writing, jotting things down in his notebook, while you held your head above your own book and soaked up every last word. it was comforting knowing that. the plate had even emptied, mostly due to rafe’s insatiable appetite after practice. you weren’t that hungry from your sandwich earlier.
“okay, that’s it.” rafe said abruptly, causing you to look up as his hand left your knee. “my eyes are going to bleed if i read anymore.”
you laughed lightly and looked back at your book. “are you sure you studied enough?”
“i wrote a whole ten pages worth of notes.” he flipped through them, the pages brushing together.
you hummed, still engrossed in your text. rafe shuffled next to you, dropping his notebook over the open pages along with his pencil. he let out a long sigh which turned into a yawn.
“are you done?” he asked innocently, his head appearing on your shoulder.
you glanced at him and shrugged him off with a smile. “maybe.”
“come on,” he groaned and reached for your textbook. you automatically smacked his hand away. he laughed and quickly flipped it closed and took ahold of your chin to face him.
“that was a dick move.” you said, punching him softly on the arm.
“pay attention to me.” he whined, letting go of your chin only to touch your cheek.
you eyed him as he came closer, finally kissing you when you didn’t punch him again or push him away. you kissed him back as best you could with the speculation seeping into your brain then. rafe seemed to be able to tell.
“what is it?” he asked when he pulled away, running his thumb lightly along your cheekbone. it was reassuring almost.
you looked at him, trying to think of the best way to phrase it. you also thought about how badly it could go given the answer you were dreading. “i'm just— it’s nothing.” you shook your head quickly and leaned in to distract him with another kiss.
he reciprocated for only a moment. “what is it? you can tell me.”
“i guess i'm just wondering what we’re doing.” you rolled your shoulder as if you had a knot, pulling away from rafe in case he didn’t want to touch you. his hand fell from your face and he leaned his side against the couch.
“what do you want to do?”
you gave him a serious glare. “don’t make this a game, rafe. i'm just…wondering what your intentions are.”
rafe adjusted his posture and sat up straighter, all his attention on you. his eyebrows creased and you bit the inside of your lip self-consciously, knowing this wasn’t going to go how you wanted it.
“well, i'm enjoying spending time with you.”
“studying?” you asked with a monotone.
rafe glanced away from you as if he were wondering if he said the wrong thing. “yeah. is that so hard to believe?”
you wanted to huff again, but you held the breath in. your shoulders started to tense as you became frustrated. not because of him, mostly because of yourself for not being able to communicate. you felt stupid for asking it, but you did. “do you like kissing me?”
“of course i do.”
“is that all you want to do?” you finally asked, quickly looking away from him. you reached toward your textbook, fiddling with the pages.
“no,” rafe said. “i want to get to know you.”
it was hard for you not to roll your eyes. rafe noticed and a second later his hand touched your shoulder, gently shaking it.
“i'm serious. hey, look at me.” he pleaded, and you did. “i want to get to know you, but only if you’ll let me. i know the other night was weird and i don’t know— spontaneous, but i enjoyed it and i enjoy being around you. you’re not the only one who’s been thinking about it.”
“i’ve probably been thinking about it more than you.” you chided in a quiet voice, trying to tease him. you were pleased by the answer he gave you and you felt a little silly for being so stubborn at first.
rafe smiled slightly, eyes soft. “let’s just keep doing what we’re doing and see where it goes, okay?”
you took a deep breath in, pushing your book away and nodding. “okay.”
rafe’s hand rubbed your shoulder comfortingly before he pulled you in for an awkwardly placed hug. the side of your body fell into his chest, but he hugged you, nonetheless, pressing a quick kiss to the crown of your head. you turned into him and smiled widely, your cheeks strained to hold it, and hugged him around the shoulders.
all the time spent worrying about whether he reciprocated your feelings or thoughts were so obviously wasted as you spent the rest of the night together. you took it slow, never straying from innocent kisses as you curled up together to watch a movie. you couldn’t help grinning multiple times throughout the night, knowing that things wouldn’t be difficult like you thought. it was easy when you expressed yourself and talked things over, even mentioning small things made a difference. maybe this would turn out to be another smart decision. you had a feeling there were plenty of possibilities with rafe cameron, but only time would tell.

That’s My Ex
Dating your team mates ex’ This is for @footballffbarbiex writing challenge. I hope you enjoy this! I would lve to know what you think of this imagine as it is one of my favourites. Word Count: 1075 The photos you were seeing on social media of Jack and Ben, you massively cringed and wanted to hide yourself away because of it. Nobody had known a single thing about your relationship, you were a pretty private person on all of your social media accounts. The boys were allowed to have visits from families in between training sessions at St George’s Park. When Ben told you that you were finally allowed to come over and see him after missing him for so long, you were so anxious at the prospect.
You tried your hardest to feel excited when you got in the car on the way to go and see him. But thought of seeing Jack wasn’t how you expected your day to be going. - “Who do you have visiting you today?” Ben asked Jack as they engaged in conversation as they walked through to where everyone was waiting to see one another. “My family I suppose” Jack replied as they both made it into room at St George’s Park. You heard the door goes as everyone walks through, you see Ben rushing over as he came over straight to you. Kissing you on the lips. “Woah” you laughed as he almost knocked you out with how powerful his kiss was, crashing down onto your lips. “Someone missed me” he smirked as you pulled each other away. “Hmm I think that might have been the other way round babe. You okay?” you smiled as you sat down. “Yes I am good, all better now I get to see you angel” you blushed. “Thanks” you laughed. “So anything new in your world?” Ben asked. “No sadly not, just missing you. I haven’t been done too much, just relaxing and that is it” you smiled. Out the corner of your eye you could see someone approaching. You felt your energy shift as you saw him walking over. “You okay?” Ben asked. “Yeah yeah, fine” you mumbled. “You look like you have seen a ghost” you laughed. “No it is okay. Just have a little bit of a headache” you groaned, rubbing your temples gently. “Hey” Jack smiled as he looked straight at you as he come over. You felt like your heart was going to beat out of your chest. The physical eye contact was making you extremely nervous. “So going to introduce me to your mysterious girlfriend?” you looked up at him. “This is y/n” you smiled as you hugged Jack, trying to be as friendly as you could. Not knowing how Jack was really going to react. “Must like my sloppy seconds huh?” Jack asked. “Huh?” Ben looked at his team mate confused. “Well this is my ex” you felt like your heart was beating out of your chest. You wanted the ground to swallow you up whole. “How the fuck did you not tell me? So the ex boyfriend who you speak about is HIM. One of my closest boys” Ben shouted, you nodded. Now you felt like everyone’s eyes were on you as Ben raised his voice furthermore. “Please can we not do this here. Everyone is watching us” you whispered as you got up from your chair, dragging Ben away and out of the room. “Why didn’t you tell me? The way you spoke about him, made him sound like a monster” Ben exclaimed. “Ben, he cheated on me. That isn’t okay, I don’t care if he is your best friend. He hurt me, how are you annoyed with me now over this. He cheated on ME. I’m YOUR girlfriend. Why are you making out like I am in the wrong here?” you shouted at him. Feeling your eyes leak with tears. “Look it’s a shock. I didn’t expect this. You can’t blame me for being annoyed, I didn’t think we lied to each other” Ben voice dropped. “I know I didn’t tell you the truth, but I didn’t think anything of it. Maybe I was stupid, but please Ben seeing you with him hurts me. I am gonna go back home, I think I have caused more damage than I needed to. See you” you said as you walked off. Ben grabbed your elbow. “No you aren’t, come here” he pulled you for a cuddle. Kissing your hair as he pulled his arms around your body. “I am sorry for shouting. It was just a shock. I guess one I have to deal with. I don’t know what fully happened with you and Jack. But all I know is that I won’t hurt you” “I am sorry too. I should have told you. I- was being silly” you pulled away from him as you heard foot steps from behind the both of you. You turned to look as you saw Jack. You smiled. “I am sorry for shouting, I shouldn’t have said what I said. I just wasn’t expecting you to be here. But if you are happy with Ben, than that makes me happy. I know I treated you like shit and I am sorry about that” Jack apologised. “It is okay, we are happy” you smiled. You glanced over to Ben as you had a smile on your face. “I guess that was a surprise to the day, I am going to leave, I think I have out stayed my welcome just enough for one day. I will see you soon” you cuddled Ben, kissing him on the lips. “Nice to see you again Jack, I wasn’t Ben’s sloppy seconds. I will never sink that low. Remember that Jacky boy. No need to be bitter” you tapped his cheek gently as you sarcastically walked away. Ben laughed as Jack’s face was like thunder. “That told you didn’t it” Ben smirked much at Jack’s expense. “Shut it man” Jack grunted. “Shouldn’t have thought with your dick than should you pal, win some lose some. This time I won” Ben smirked as they walked back to the room. “What the fuck was that about?” Declan asked as he came over to Jack and Ben as they walked back through the door. “Well, maybe you should ask Jack. That girl was my girlfriend and well I just found out that she also dated Jack” Declan gasped. “Shit” he mumbled. “So Jack got a bit pissed with what she said. But she deserves better and I hope she has found better in me too” Ben smiled feeling rather smug with himself. Part One. Encounter with the Sun.
When you spend so much time in the darkness, it's inevitable to feel blinded by the light.
It’s dazzling.
You don’t see anything at first, your eyes hurt. They burn.
Then, when you’re able to detect the things around you, you feel good, even amazed by the new perspective, the colors, the depths, the lengths, the shining. The new world before you.
After a while, however, you feel overwhelmed by it. By the spotlight that gives you. How observed and judged you feel and how out of place you realize you are.
So you miss your old friend, the darkness. The intimacy of it. How it covers your flaws, your fears, your insecurities, your lackings. Your secrets. The secrets you don’t even know you’re keeping.
When you're invisible it's just you and your deepest thoughts and desires. No exposition, no need to cover your flaws, or make an effort to fit in.
You're safe from the constant awkwardness for feeling different.
That’s what happened to me when I met Bryce Lahela. His light dazzled me. It made me see the world bright, as I'd never seen it before.
But soon I realized it wasn’t for me. I belong to the darkness, and there’s not so much a person from the darkness can do with a person with so much light like him.
Or that's what I thought.
It was my first day of Residency when I met him, walking hurriedly to the locker room, covered in blood and lost in my thoughts. Orientation with the new interns was about to start in five minutes, so I couldn’t show up with my scrubs stained with blood from the Thoracotomy I just had done.
I was so deep in my thoughts and worries that I didn’t realize there was someone around the corner of the lockers until I bumped directly into him, my face almost burying on his toned, bare chest if it wasn’t because he had quicker reflexes than me.
“Woah there,” he said, surprised, and then his firm hands grabbed me by the arms.
“Sh…” I stopped instantly, reminding myself I was in my workplace, so I couldn’t be cursing as I pleased, much less in front of a person I hadn't met before.
“Damn, I’m…” I tried to say instead, but as I looked up, my words choked in my throat.
Damn indeed.
A pair of brown eyes looked at me curiously but warmly. But damn, damn, damn. He was handsome, so handsome it seemed like a hallucination.
Fuck, people can be this handsome in real life? I thought, as I was taking in the sight of him: dashing broad smile, eyes wrinkling in a playful grin. And all that was complemented with toned, perfect abs, illegal triceps, and divine hair. I could swear my hair never looked that gorgeous.
But the way he looked at me, even casually, was disarming. Just one look and he had me all inspected. And for some reason, I couldn't stop staring at him. There was something hypnotizing about him. Inevitable.
“Are you okay?” he asked a few moments later, as he noticed my speechlessness.
I blushed instantly. Oh my god, how much I stared at him like an idiot?
“Or are you already getting all the fun without even starting your shift yet?”
I sighed, thanking internally that he was talking about the blood on my scrubs and not about my embarrassing loss for words because of his appearance.
“I’m sorry, yes,” I said, shaking my head as I kept walking toward my locker, my cheeks flushing in a beet red in a matter of seconds, “Just a thoracotomy in the waiting room, that’s all.”
He chuckled as I was opening my locker to put my things inside, ignoring the anxiety washing over me slowly.
“Way to start the year, are you new too?”
“Y… Yeah,” I stuttered, begging internally he wasn’t looking directly at me at that moment. I didn't dare to check if it was the case.
By this point, I was used to changing clothes in front of lots of strange people, but it was always difficult doing it for the first time in a new place, so I tried to overcome my self-consciousness and simply tugged my stained scrubs out, ignoring the fact that he could see my curvy body in my simple black underwear.
After a lot of effort, I was a couple of years past feeling embarrassed by my body. I had finally accepted it the way it was -way off commercial beauty standards: chubby, fluffy, full of stretch marks and cellulitis-, but coming to terms with the fact that other people wouldn't think the same is completely different. There are always looks and awkward smiles, sometimes opinions. So this time I couldn’t help but feel a little shy about it, much more considering how handsome and sporty he was. It made me feel judged even if he wasn’t even judging me at all.
“Internal medicine?” he asked once I was with my fresh scrubs on. I turned around and found him with green scrubs instead, leaning against the lockers with a relaxed smile. There wasn't anything uncomfortable about his features.
“Yup,” I said sharply, giving him a quick glance before sitting down to lace up my black Chuck Taylors.
But then I felt the strange need to say something more.
I don't know why.
Any other day I would've replied and then acted like that conversation never happened. I hate small talk. But there was something that persuaded me to ask him something in return. Maybe it was the fact that I wasn’t expecting he would keep talking to me. Maybe I just wanted to repay the kindness. He could've just ignored me but he didn't.
“You?”
“Surgery,” he said grinning, fixing his hair with enviable naturality.
Oh, of course. Of course the living embodiment of Adonis would be a surgical bro. I should've known.
I couldn't help but chuckle as I shook my head.
“What?” He asked, with a puzzled look.
“Nothing,” I assured, still smirking while I was closing my bag before putting it back inside my locker.
“If you say so,” he shrugged before standing straight and checking his watch, “Are you ready? We can go to the Atrium together if you want. Considering we’re going to the same place.”
I froze in place for a moment.
I never expected something like that.
First, to interact with someone in my first hour at the hospital. Socializing wasn’t my forte so this felt like I was doing my first friend at playschool, even if this would bethe first and last time I'd talk to him in my life.
Second, to keep interacting with him after the usual pleasantries. He could’ve just greeted me and then done as nothing happened. Like I would’ve done it if it wasn't because my brain was pushing me to talk to him.
Third, that he would want to keep interacting with me despite how weird I acted and that I somewhat laughed at his face a few seconds ago.
“Y-Yeah, sure,” I said trying to conceal the slight shaking in my voice, and followed him outside the room.
“I’m Bryce Lahela, by the way,” he added, extending his hand to me as we started walking towards the exit.
“Matilde Luna,” I said in response, shaking his hand. His caramel skin felt smooth and warm on my palm.
“Nice to meet you, Matilde Luna. You have a really beautiful name.”
“Your name is pretty nice too,” I said without thinking too much of it, in my effort to hold the conversation even if I didn’t know what else to say.
When I turned to look at him, I could swear the ghost of a sad smile was concealed behind his -seemingly- signature smirk.
I frowned, wondering why that was. It was just a compliment to his name, how could I be wrong about something so simple as that?
But a moment later, that sadness was gone. As if it never happened, he grinned at me again.
“Do you have any friends or acquaintances from Med School here?” he broke the silence again, as we were reaching the stairs.
“I… I actually don’t know much,” I confessed, looking directly on the staircases before me. I couldn't care less about my classmates, honestly, but at that moment I felt bad for not knowing. Maybe guilty for my indifference. “I think a guy is in Peds and another girl is in Neuro?”
“Where are you from?”
“U-Dub. Washington.”
“Ah, cold and rainy. You won’t suffer too much with the climate here then.”
“Yup, I like it rainy.”
“You’re nuts!” He exclaimed, with an overacted shocked expression.
“Oh, let me guess why the gratuitous insult, you're from California, right?”
Bryce turned to me, perplexed, “Guilty as charged, what gave me away?”
“Mmm besides your tan and your surfer highlights?”
“Ouch, talk about gratuitous insults!”
“Just payback, ” I laughed heartily, “No, actually it’s your accent. I did my undergrad in Berkeley.”
“Oh,” he chuckled, “Makes sense.”
“Which part of Cali?”
“Stanford.”
Surgical bro from Stanford. La crème de la crème. Why was he even talking to me?
Just he replied, we entered the Atrium and found interns of all sorts of specialties gathered around place, waiting for the Chief to make her appearance.
My stomach churned at the huge amount of people before me. All these new people I'd have to meet and work with. To deal with.
But it didn't matter. If this was the price I had to pay to do what I love, to make her proud, so be it.
I took a deep breath, psyching myself to what was about to come, “This is for you, mama.”
And just the thought of her seemed to soothe whatever anxiety I was feeling at that moment.
“Well, Matilde Luna,” Bryce announced, after both observed the crowd in silence for a couple of seconds, “Time to meet my competition now. Good luck with yours.”
I looked up at him instantly, surprised by the slight tremor concealed in his voice. But there was nothing there. Bryce was already grinning at me, his caramel skin glistening against the morning sunlight. Melting as if they were just the same thing. But I could tell his smile wasn't reaching his eyes as before.
“Thank you, you too, ” I said as I watched him striding toward a group in green scrubs, each step taken with resolve.
But after a few feet, he stopped and slowly turned in my direction, a twinkle of honey piercing directly at me, “See ya later? ” he quizzed.
I arched an eyebrow at his question.
See ya later.
And made an effort not to snort.
With the sea of interesting people in this hospital, you won’t even remember my face by the end of the day, so don’t bother.
But I played along, it was the least he deserved for being so friendly with me that morning.
“See ya later,” I promised, convinced it was in vain. This would be the last time I would exchange words with him.
At that moment, though, I couldn’t even imagine how wrong I would be.
