Incomeless; will proofread your fics! (Or anything else.)
I'm not sure how to head this with a snazzy, attention-catching image given I'm not offering an obviously graphic service like art commissions, but let's give it a go...
Tumblr media
Hello, I'm your friendly neighborhood disabled unemployed transgender queer on the internet. I have not posted a great amount about the details on this blog for privacy reasons, but I am currently in an untenable familial/financial living situation, which I am actively working to get out of. My primary barrier to disentangling myself from the pertinent parties is a lack of income. I've been unable to pursue traditional means of work due to being multiply disabled (slash chronically ill, slash treatment-resistant, et cetera...), but I do not qualify for SSI or unemployment, so I am stuck trying to find other ways of making money.
This is where you come in... If you'd like to help, you can:
$$ Hire me $$ to proofread your fics, essays, and more!
Click below for info! (I also may add separate posts for diversity reading and/or other writing- and editing-related services.)
For $0.00855/word *OR BEST BID*, I will vet your work of writing before you publish it, checking for mistakes in spelling, capitalization, & punctuation, missed words, inconsistencies of tense, formatting, & POV, and miscellaneous grammatical errors. Never again need you fear posting a finished chapter and discovering a slew of typos after the fact; no matter how sleep-deprived or late at night the state of writing, I will ensure your text is ship-shape. Or, if you happen to be interested in having other types of writing proofread before submission--essays, comics or webtoons, letters, transcripts, compositions of a personal nature, so on--I will happily take these on at a comparable rate.[1]
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in English with a minor in writing
Initiate of international collegiate honors society for English scholarship, Sigma Tau Delta
Active member of the International Association of Professional Writers and Editors (IAPWE)
Former lit editor for award-winning university literary arts magazine
Prior employment in tutoring and teaching English, as well as copy-editing and content writing
Nearly 20 years' writing experience
Previous experience as both fic writer and beta
Incisive eye for typo-hunting and tenacious attention to detail (I have high standards and will make those everybody else's problem... now for pay!)
I will read for content of any genre and all ratings, and am broadly[2] open to any subject matter, kinks, et cetera. I'll also post more detailed guidelines (booking process, any exclusions, additional criteria) on a separate, unrebloggable post so that any edits and updates are always current.
Message me via the chat feature on Tumblr, or send me an e-mail (I will post it on my more info post) to request a quote, bid for a slot, or just to see what I can offer for whatever project you have in mind. And please feel encouraged to share or boost this post! I am in urgent need of any income I can get, and every share counts 😭🙌

[1] There will be some exclusions to this, such as academic assignments/papers that have style guide requirements; i.e., I will not be your online MLA style checker or anything.
[2] As with anything, there will be sporadic exceptions to this as well, but I will always be up-front about such cases.

Writeblr Re-Introduction
Hi! I’ve been part of  Writeblr for a while now but I consolidated everything into my main blog here a while back so I thought it was about time I dids this again!
About Me
Name: Raven
Pen Name: Raven Elliot O'Connor
Age: 25+
Pronouns: they/xe
Location: UK
I'm a self-published author and you can read about my debut series here! I'm tag and ask game friendly and am also willing to answer asks in character. I'm queer, mentally ill, neurodivergent and disabled so a lot of what I write reflects that, because I want to see myself on the page and hope others will find value in it too.
About My Writing
Genre/s:
Urban Fantasy, LGBTQ+ Romance, and uh... fanfic XD
Demographic:
Young/New Adult
Themes:
Found family, interpersonal drama, trauma recovery/coping, magic and mystery
Current Projects:
Tumblr media
The Truth Saga
When they were children, their brother was stolen and their mother killed. Elyan and Lydia Moore have dedicated their lives to finding out what really happened that night, and where their brother was taken – but the truth will throw them into chaos they could never predict.
The Truth Saga is my debut NA series combining Urban Fantasy with interpersonal drama and romance. It's an indefinite series in which the books will be written in such a way that readers can jump in wherever and not be too lost/be able to figure out the story so far as they go. If you like a diverse cast, queer representation, characters who come alive on the page, and realistic depictions of trauma and mental illness without demonising it, you'll love this. The first book in the series, Reckless Truth, is available now from Amazon, Itch.io and Gumroad
Tumblr media
The Magiverse
Everyone knows the Magi exist. Some say the foundations of our greatest cities were built upon the bones of ancient Magi; others that they are simply freaks of evolution. One thing most agree on: they’re dangerous. But most of them are just kids, desperate for a place to belong -- and that's where the Shelter comes in. Deep within the confines of a troubled town, a small group of displaced Magi live and love and hide just like everyone else.
The Magiverse is a YA Urban Fantasy project focusing on a group of lost and displaced young adults in their journey to self-acceptance. It is about the grief and fear that comes with living in a world not built for you, and the love and trusting relationships we form regardless. Every forseeable novel will be completely standalone and follow a different group of characters! If you likefound family, queer identity and commentary on the societal demonisation of mental illness wrapped in a bundle of supernatural drama, you'll love this!

Throwing this out into the winds of writblr, or authblr, idk what that part of Tumblr is, I'm just an erotic angsty fanfic writer BUT
Please reply, reblog or send me an ask if you have any reccomendations for fiction where the protagonist is non-binary (and clearly so. I'm not after implied gender so much as I am clear representation).
All genres are acceptable.
I'm looking for these from an analysis viewpoint. I wanna get some ideas and do some research on how non-binary protagonists have been approached in fiction already. I'm planning an original work for NanoWrimo next year, so I'm getting some pre-reading in early.
Ty in advance ✌🏽

A Song in Spirit: Diminuendo 1
The soldier named Han picked Himiko up by the collar and threw her over his shoulder, before peeking over his own, his master Cheong-Di had left the small farm by now. Han walked over to his brother-in-arms Seun-Jae, all the while cursing at Cheong-Di for making them do all the heavy lifting. Seun-Jae was crouching over the mother’s body, resting his head on the knuckle of his armoured fist. He rose as Han came up next to him, and Seun-Jae gave his older companion a look of something between indignance and amusement. Han in return pointed at his sword, and Seun-Jae picked it up with sarcastic glee and let it rest on his shoulder while the two made their way back.”
"The two finest swordsmen in the Water's Ring, reduced to being kidnappers." Han sighed, shooting Seun-Jae a glance over his shoulder. Seun-Jae chuckled and shrugged.
“Speak for yourself, I’m just the pack mule.” He pointed, and adjusted the sword on his shoulder, it had begun sliding down the side of his shoulder guard. Han stared ahead again, not dignifying that with an answer, aside from an amused silence. Their quips were put to an end by the presence of Cheong-Di, their elder. He stood with his hands at his back, and the air around him gave off a slight hum as his thousand-yard stare met the two approaching. He gazed from Seun-Jae, who reflexively inserted Han’s sword into its scabbard, to Han, who gave a slight bow. Both soldiers had become like their armours, rigid and firm as if cut from seastone, without a trace of their earlier merriness.
“Is the Medusa harmed?” Cheong-Di’s voice was tense, but also firm, and his question was terrifyingly so. Han nodded, and his lips wanted to thin out as much as Cheong-Di’s eyes did, the glare was razor-sharp, and the slight humming of vibrating air turned into a hissing. Then, as quickly as the anger had come, it went. The Elder let his eyes rest upon Seun-Jae again, and nodded, before turning around and pacing down the road towards the islands only harbour. Seun-Jae turned to face Han and gave his comrade a look of worried compassion as Himiko was moved from one shoulder to another. Seun-Jae, now receiving the limp body of the child made a slight grunt as he hoisted her up onto his shoulder, and Han felt an urge to smile and chide him for being weak, but nothing that his ingrained soldier’s rigor couldn’t stifle. As the sun graced the rough-hewn path leading away from the farm, he noted the rustic appeal of this little harbor. It was as if someone had carved a little dent in the surrounding lush mountain chain and decided to adorn it with quaint little houses and a few grain farms in places. Looking at the trees and bushes up close revealed leaves upon hundreds of tiny branches, fingers grasping at the sunlight and filtering it evenly, without any errant rays to disturb the eye; from afar it simply made to tint the mountain-side green with life. The popularity among Elder nobles to spend short vacations in inlets like this one used to surprise Han, but he understood it far better now seeing as the populace were very subordinate and agreeable, and the vistas were nothing to scoff at. All this was contemplated and observed as they grew closer to the centre of the village, where a score of people was silently observing a trio from inside their houses, and those that did not looked on with mixed emotions as a pair of mainlander soldiers, treading upon neutral ground, carrying a lifeless body of a girl they all knew. The attention of the villagers slowly shifted, and along with a chorus of hissing gasps in shock came the subtle rustling of shrugs and righteous nods. The two small groups of mainlanders there during the off-season met up, and a sound much like the grinding and crying of metal cicadas rose as two Elders met. One of the Sea and one of the bustling beauties of the inner cities.
The second one wasn’t visibly paying attention, instead basking in the wafts of cool air from the massive fans held by the two lieutenants that held a position much like Han and Seun-Jae’s. He was inspecting a bushel of flowers meant to appease the friendly applebug spirits of the island as Cheong-Di and his men approached, the two lieutenants saluting and Cheong-Di simmering. The Elder of Beauty was wearing a traditional wide dress for women, but with a tighter upper body masking body armour underneath. On the dress danced slithery serpents between bushels of wild grapes and canopies of camellia in full bloom, moving continuously as if they were alive in a small microcosm of evergreen summer. There was an otherworldliness to his presence; the fans that waved and made his dress shift its image to that of summer breezes gracing the earth, to the slight rocking of the many tiny metal plates, affixed to his forearms, ears, and hands through tiny iron rings piercing his skin. His lieutenants wore robes to match his, although with patterns that repeated in a short dance looping across their wiry frames. Their gazes were affixed, as if in a trance, to each other; their fanning was subtle and precise, as if taught through many hard lessons. When the well-dressed Elder of Beauty did move to acknowledge his peer, a clinker as if from an instrument accompanied his movement. His face betrayed a sense of disgust as he saw Seun-Jae carrying Himiko, and a barely audible clinker of metal plates told his handmaidens to retrieve the girl.
"I told you so, you should have learned to trust my intuition, Elder Cheong-Di." His voice was clear as glass, and the innocuous comment was equally as sharp, the chiding tone and look that Cheong-Di was given made so few words into an iceberg of vitriol.
"I'd rather trust a fox to lull a child, Meta. We'll be leaving immediately." Cheong-Di's voice and manner were flat and still, as he moved to Seun-Jae's side to stop Meta's handmaidens from taking care of Himiko. The air literally relaxed as he put distance between himself and his colleague, but the mood refused to do the same. One of the handmaidens, who had already seized one of Himiko's legs, did not let go immediately as Cheong-Di approached, instead she looked to Meta first as an act of loyalty. The waters of the cove that was Cheong-Di's mind had already retreated however, and her tiny insult was the squall that drove the waters back in force. He grabbed the girl by the throat and threw her to the ground, before forcing the bile in her body upwards, causing her to vomit violently. Meta's demeanour instantly softened and somehow made him even more terrifying than before, as he coldly ordered his handmaiden to walk it off.
"Well, just as tactful as belching swine still then I see. Touch my handmaidens again." Meta said, as a warning, before turning around and walking towards where their ship was docked. Cheong-Di only sighed, in an uncharacteristic display of sensible restraint, and rubbed the bridge of his nose with his pinkie finger. Han and Seun-Jae stood like statues, waiting for the tides of Cheong-Di's mood to signal safe sailing. The coast cleared as their Elder nodded in concession and followed in Meta's path, with enough distance between them and at a pace slow enough to feign the independence of his decision.

Things I've Learned Reviewing An AI-Generated Audiobook
Google will autonarrate a book for you using AI, and I'm currently going through the process with my book Tomorrow And Beyond. I'm learning things I figure other authors might want to know!
AI's will read alpharumeric strains oddly, and the likelihood of that increases if it includes a common abbreviation. For example, the AI read 'unit DR-572' as 'unit doctor dash 572' and 'unit D.R572' as 'unit D dot 572'. Make sure you check every one!
Repeated words, like in studdering dialog, 'That's, that's not true!' sound like the AI is glitching. I fixed it on a case-by-case basis by either removing one of the words or adding '...' between the words.
An AI won't emphasize italic words, all it has is timing, and it doesn't always match my idea of phrasing. I'm removing or adding commas all the time as I listen to the audiobook line by line in the UI.
Visual cues of things like text messages or bot actions are read aloud. '>>Downloading...' was read as 'greater than greater than Downloading' and man was that annoying. I deleted where appropriate.
Google AI does tend to treat five repetitions of the same thing '-----' or '#####' as a pause, which is exactly what I want for a scene break so that's a win
Oddly enough, it sometimes struggles with plurals. It read 'implant' currently, but 'implants' became 'implahnts'. I don't know how to fix that.
It also had problems with vowel shifts for past-tense. 'reread' became 'rereed' but it was fixed when I added a hyphen 're-read' so it used the past-tense pronunciation of 're-red'
I had to also spell resumes as 'rezumes', otherwise the word got read as the noun and not the verb.
Putting things in capital letters seems to cue the AI to use the letter names. 'Two am' is read as 'two ahm' while ' Two AM' is read as 'two A M'
The AI rushed through small lists, so 'four, three, two, one' felts way faster than the sentence preceding it. The fix is to replace the commas with periods, which then made it feel slow. But I'd rather than then a jumbled rush. Especially if I think it's rushed at normal speed and many people listen at a speed between 1.2x or 1.5x
Made up words might be read differently in different sentences. The AI read my alien race, 'modling' correct the first three times but switched up the first vowel the 4th and I had to correct pronunciation by spelling it 'mod-ling'. This suggests for future SFF words I create, I need to be very aware of where syllables land.

Where are people writing work with OCs these days? I feel like that used to be the realm of writing.com or mibba or wattpad. But I'm not sure if those places are still popular. Wattpad, at least, seems aimed at teens? Ao3 is interesting but I suspect that if you're not writing fanfic, people don't find your stuff. What have other folks found to work?

you will write again...
The author scurried over to her desk and dusted off her laptop, thoughts rushing through her head. A solid idea hadn’t surfaced in three months. She was under the impression she would never write again. The author was constantly tearing herself down, starting works and then hating them, abandoning her characters in the abyss known as her brain. She opened her notes she had taken earlier. None of them would have made sense to anyone but herself, but that’s all that mattered. She opened a word document, and put her hands on the keyboard, ready to tell the word her story. The blank screen stared back at her. Suddenly, her brain was empty. She had no idea how to start. Doubt overwhelmed her once again. Her career was over before it had even started. She was burnt out, with no original ideas. The author closed her notes and her laptop, and went back to the drawing board.
A few days later the author had an epiphany. The words were suddenly flowing out of her like no other. It took a while to complete, but when she was done, it was if the story was destined to be shared with the world. This book became a bestseller. The author wrote again, and it payed off.
One day, you will have an epiphany. You will write an amazing story that you always needed to share. It just takes patience...

Happy World Storytelling Day!! I thought I'd shake it up a lil and make some comp maps for my characters rather than the book itself -- so if you like any of the characters pictured you might like Reckless Truth, available from all good bookstores!

As I write for myself and hopefully one day to publish I cannot help but feel like I actually don't know what I'm doing. Will an agent even like my story? It is a strange topic concept after all, and if it does how do you market one?

Biography:
Tori Brightheart was kidnapped before she was old enough to remember anything, and taken to a secret facility somewhere in Scotland, where she was enhanced and trained to kill. Unlike the other children who were taken, however, she knows exactly how old she is and, at the very least, who her father was. When she was a child, her papa, a policeman, came to find her. He'd tracked her down after her kidnapping and discovered the facility she was taken to. Unfortunately, the Controller also found him, and brought him in to see her. They told her he was there to hurt them and Tori, not knowing any better, panicked. She killed him, and it wasn't until her fellow soldier, Ivy, saw the police badge he'd given Tori and reminded her about her father's occupation, that she realised just what she'd been made to do.
While Erik's tragedies at the facility turned him into one of their strongest soldiers, Tori's did the opposite -- she fought and begged and refused to cooperate until the Controller agreed to train her as a healer; deciding it might be useful to them.
As a healer, Tori was taught that her own life was worthless. Her only Purpose was to keep the people around her alive, at the expense of her own life if necessary. Despite having arguably the most vicious and unyeilding training, Tori prides herself on her healing ability, seeing it as the one thing she was able to choose during her time at he facility.   Still, she was curious. What else had she been forced to forget, besides her father? One night she managed to sneak into an office and hack their computers, learning that files were being kept on each and every one of them; finding out her age and that her surname was actually McCrae.
She was dragged away before she could find out much more, but it solidified in her mind what deep down she already knew: they didn't belong here. There were homes and families waiting for them somewhere in the outside world, and she grew determined to find them. She fought to escape, and one day succeeded with Erik, teleporting them away in a risky move that paid off and landed them right by the lake they now call home.
They were free -- or so it seemed.
Two years after they escaped the facility, she met a boy named James. They got close, and one day, he asked her to dance. Erik got her a dress especially for the occasion, and she saw it as the final sign that she was actually free now; she'd found her life and her prince and everything would be okay. But she was followed - soldiers from the facility stormed the party. Tori only just managed to hide in time, but they shot James to pieces. When they left, he was already dead, but Tori still tried to heal him and was left in a coma for three months. A week after she woke up, Erik found her with a gun to her head, and only just stopped her in time.   From then on she became nervous and reclusive - moreso than before - and Erik vowed to protect her always. It took a long time for her to regain her sense of wonder about the world, and when she did it was muted; hesitant and afraid. Still, she yearns to live a 'normal' life; to find her prince and live happily ever after.
