Meat Marionette #11?
Thinkin about the rogues in this Au, and like, the difference between their relationship with the bats vs this Au.
For example, Selina. I’ll admit I take a bit of inspiration from the 2022 movie and mix it with comic depictions along with the different cartoons, which honestly isn’t too different from each other by too much. Now, I don’t think that Catwoman would flirt with this version of Batman, what with his body being a meat puppet that is visibly not human and off putting.
There’s also the fact that she would have been an early-ish rogue of his, at least in order of encounters. Which means that she probably encounters the Bat for the first time while Bruce was still getting used to said gifted body, which in turn was probably terrifying.
So there’s still a cat and mouse game happening, but it’s more akin to Selina doing her darn best to avoid the Bat no matter what, because to her it isn’t above trying to kill. It’s like seeing a lion where you figure you’re safe at this distance, until it starts moving and you realize that you are definitely not far enough away.
Another rogue that I am thinking of is Harvey and Two-Face (Which DC, give Two-Face a proper name :/ he’s his own dude even if they share a body). Harvey was best friends with Bruce, hell they were practically high-school sweethearts in some cases! And Bruce still visits him in Arkham, canonically still talks and interacts with both his friend and TF.
Now if anyone is going to notice the changes to Bruce, it’s going to be Harvey. He’s going to be the first to notice how Bruce’s movements are now dangerous and downright predatory, with too much grace even for a dancer or martial artist. There’s something familiar about that movement, and Harvey isn’t an idiot, TF isn’t one either. They know there’s something wrong with Bruce even if he insists he’s fine.
In canon Harvey straight up broke down and cried when he found out Bruce was Batman, so I’m wondering what their reaction to this version of the bat would be…
There’s also rogues like the Riddler and the Joker who are downright obsessed with Batman, but would they still be with this one? I could see Joker slowly becoming obsessed as the creatures continue to thwart him over and over again, but I’m still rotating Riddler.
But y’know who would definitely be obsessed with the batclan?
Scarecrow.
The man is obsessed with studying fear, with the effects it has and how to cause it. So the bats, who bring terror wherever they go, with something about them continuously tingling at the back of ones’ more instinctive mind that this is something to fear? He would be utterly enthralled, he’d need to know more, he’d need to know Everything.
Especially if his fear toxin doesn’t work right on them. After all, how would a gas effect something without lungs? How can you inject something that doesn’t have blood, that’s not quite alive, not in the way that we as humans understand? How can you cause fear of something that has stared into the Tunnels’ heart and lived? Or something like that lol.

I’ve been reading a lot of dick & damian fics lately and I’m not gonna lie I always find the parentification of dick and damian’s relationship to be so off putting. like in general the seemingly common idea that people have that to be a guardian you need to be a parent kind of sucks but its always felt especially weird to me when it comes to dick and damian. I think it’s partially because I just can’t see dick as anything other than an older brother to the batkids but also whenever bruce comes back the whole situation really starts to give me the ick. like damian calling dick’s dad father and then dick calling damian his son feels so uncomfortable.

I really think Jason and Damian should get some good bonding time in. Because Jason knows a lot about being young and being blamed for being wrong in whatever way. For Jason it’s the victim-blaming and character assassination after his death, for Damian it’s a different kind of victim-blaming, failing to acknowledge his youth and the tragedy of his life so far and blaming him alone for the way he is without putting his “acting out” in context of two unloving parents and absolutely no freedom of self-determination in his life.
I want to see Jason and Damian bonding as Jason being able to offer guidance and understanding to Damian as someone who is older and has been through much of the same or similar things. I want to see them bond for the sake of Jason to get to confront his younger self by proxy of Damian and have this conversation he wishes he could have with himself. I desperately want Jason to care for the current Robin. I desperately want them to both fight and bond over Bruce. The sheer anger of Damian that Bruce treated Jason like a true son, both of their loss that Bruce is not much of a father at all now to either. The ostrasizetion both still experience from the family. The way they’re both labelled as angry, irrational, impulsive.
I just think a less critical adult figure is something that Damian actually really needs so he can get out of the strict black and white world view that the superhero/vigilante world often pushes. He needs someone who knows the pressure and what it means to be part of the Bats and someone who will see him as Damian in first line and not Damian al Ghul or Damian Wayne.

I don't think I ever noticed this parallel until this time around, but both the Xingese royalty are asked a terrible favor by someone lying immobilized and dying on the ground because they're the only one who can do it.
Buccaneer asks Ling to keep the gate closed. I don't remember his reaction in the show, but in the comic there is a several panel hesitation where his expression looks like he understands exactly what he is being asked to do - kill a bunch of people whose main crime is staying loyal to their leader in a situation they don't fully understand, the same thing that just left one of his own people dead at his feet. I joke about him being the 15 year old down with murder but he does not look happy about it. And then of course Mei is asked by Al to use her alkahestry - something intended for medical use, to help people - to send him back through the portal, potentially killing him if Ed can't get him back, and she's in tears.
In both scenes they're asked for a favor and told this is something only they can do. Big asks for children who didn't mean to get involved in the affairs of this country, but they are there to claim a philosopher's stone, even if Mei voices qualms about the ethics. You want to rule? You want to use something terrible because you believe it's the best way to protect people? Then here, do this other terrible thing. In that sense it's the same ask they've been getting their entire lives. The people we love need protection. No one else can do this. Only you. Now live with it.

i know i'm The Guy who never shuts up about people, especially modern-day professional wrestling fans with little to no awareness of pre-1980's wrestling, needing to read death of the territories. However. bodyslams in buffalo by dan murphy opens with the best overview of the entire history of professional wrestling i've found yet and, overall, it's a much shorter book that doesn't read like a textbook
this is a greatly accessible alternative for anyone who felt overwhelmed by death of the territories' scope, constant stream of factual information with little reprieve, and serious/academic overtone. bodyslams in buffalo has humour, dramatised retellings of events, and exclusive/rarely seen photos from the collections of both pro wrestling illustrated and the families of wrestlers. also: transcribed promotional posters, news articles, and advertisements! highly recommend
and don't forget to continue engaging in active boycotts, demonstrations, letter/email writing, awareness raising, and direct action in support of palestinian freedom and in opposition to the genocide of palestinians.
