#medarants✨#lmao this is a vent and a half #just spent the last four hours peer reviewing rough drafts of the final essays of my two classmates #one of the essays wasn’t that bad tbh #but the other was SO BAD #and it was on edgar alan poe too ;(#edgar my love you didn’t deserve this #like peer reviewing is an important exercise in learning how to critique #but fuck man my english professor is so flaky #that i wouldn’t be surprised if this assignment was an excuse to not have to read over dozens of rough drafts #can’t wait to receive the review of my final essay #hoping that whoever is critiquing it can actually give me feedback that i can work with #because i can deal with critique #it’s just so rare to actually get someone to say something thoughtful about my work #but god i am so glad that after this week i will be done with this professor for now #can’t wait to receive my A at the end of the semester and then give his class a shitty review <3

i firmly hold that it's my duty as a reader to believe it when an author tells me at the beginning of the series that the dragons are gone forever and never coming back. but god it's a struggle sometimes.

#that is: i don't think it's fair to hold that kind of genre knowledge against a specific instance of it #not even because while i've read hundreds of bad fantasy novels someone else might not have read any #but because hm. 'the dragons are gone' is the foundation of a kind of feeling - discovery; renewal; awakening -#there's not a way to get the feeling later on without laying the foundation #so even if the foundation feels like busywork for me the reader #it has to be there in some form or other

whenever right wing people talk about “parental rights” they are talking about property rights. they are arguing for further political and legal enshrinement of their children as their literal actual property

the whole guilt-tripping language in posts about important topics paired with how I'm still getting bitches in my notes talking about why it's actually good to tell "bad" people to kill themselves continues to prove to me that a lot of people have absolutely no concept of social justice or activism outside of assuming the worst of and then viciously attacking strangers on the internet

#the worst part too is this is just the logical conclusion of the hyper-individualistic society #that thrives on isolating us from each other and our communities #anyway pls get out and go volunteer to clean up litter or at the soup kitchen or something #y'all need to see that your actions can have both good and bad real world consequences #and also interact with people who share your values but come from different walks of life #and also how to organize with people you don't always 100% agree with #so yeah hang out at the farmer's market or smthn y'all really need to connect with your communities
