At the moment, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever has eaten my soul. But I also have works in X-Men comics & movieverse (Summers brothers, Gambit/Rogue), MCU Avengers (mostly Taserhawk but a few Captain Hill thrown in there for fun), and possibly my longest running faves, Clois, in all sorts of media.

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?*

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

I'm trying to be better at it but I did go through about 5 years of not writing so I never answered those comments. Right now I try to reply as soon as I post the next chapter of the same fic.

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

A very very very VERY old Gambit/Rogue fic that I would disavow except I believe in archiving everything even your shittiest piece of work.

Angstiest ending of a fic that I don't mind naming? Toss up between Because Thorns Have Roses, a X-Men Fox movieverse involving a time-travelling Gambit; or Polish Them Rockets, Swallow Those Pills an MCU Taserhawk break-up fic (which has a sequel that negates the angst).

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Most of my fics end happily. They just go through the wringer to get there.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

I don't think so? Unless there are some subtweet style comments out there that I'm not privy to.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Yeps. Yeppers. Absolutely yes. About half of my fics have smut. I can't write PWP though; all my porn has plot.

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?

Yes. I wouldn't call them crazy by any means but I have 2 X-Men/Superman ones-- one where the Kents with a young Clark ended up adopting Scott Summers|Cyclops after his parents' plane crashes in their field. And another where FoxMovieverse Cyclops' ghost possesses Richard White from Man of Steel, just because James Marsden played both characters. Neither are on Ao3 at the moment. I should really post them there with FFN in its death throes.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

I don't think so. I hope not.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

Nopes.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

I have too many control issues to co-write anything.

14. What’s your all-time favorite ship?

I don't know if I have one favourite. I don't write them if I'm not utterly compelled by their chemistry.

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

LeBeau, the third installation of my D'Ancanto series. It's not a even a WIP, really, more like a detailed outline but I don't know if I'm in that headspace any more. Even if I was, I remember thinking the outline needed such a major overhaul that I'd basically have to start all over again except the very last scene.

16. What are your writing strengths?

Possibly world-building? It's my favourite part anyway. Dialogue for certain characters.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

I'm very verbose. That world-building thing. Also, sometimes I think I rush endings especially on the longer (> 50,000 word) fics

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

Depends. Long conversations in another language, I just write in English with a comment somewhere in the beginning that it's in whatever language. Phrases or words that have no "English" translation, I'll put in said language with translations in the notes. Also, if the character tends to say those words/phrases in another language. I try my best to find a real person translator though I've started to learn a few languages trying to translate it myself.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

Probably X-Men. Or the Anne of Green Gables books.

20. Favorite fic you’ve written?

Oh my god! I don't have just one, it rotates a lot, and usually whichever one I'm working on is my fave. My current top 3 are:

The Pearl I Carry in My Heart : The world-building, political drama Nashuri I mentioned before

Cho Chang and the Jasmine Code : an HP fic about using magic based on other cultures not just Latin/Greek/British-based lore; specifically, Chinese magic which is based on calligraphy and music/tonality.

and, D'Ancanto : an gory whodunnit X-Men FoxMovieverse, post-X2, with Rogue/Marie D'Ancanto is a detective in the first police department where mutant cops solve crimes against or by other mutants.

I am fast asleep after my fight with Richard he vanished like he wasn't even there right in front of me.

I went into a deep sleep the ones that you can't wake that easily from those types of sleep take you on a journey.

And it looks like I'm going on one tonight.

I was in a lavished room but once again not from my time line. Richard was standing by the window as he watched the snow fall, I went closer to him he didn't take any heed in my presence if he ever knew I was there deep down I don't know why but I feel like he knows I am there but this is just me feeling this.

Richard clutched a book of love spell by his chest written in latin, I was alert and noticed for some odd reason he is wearing seven rings and they are all so amazing so fantastic in details each ring has a carved face, I looked closer at them it was striking the details in these rings I started realise these rings were the Greek gods some female and some male the most elaborate one of all the rings is Hera her face of light amethyst and little emeralds and sapphire and clear crystal quartz her band of gold copper silver and brass intertwining together, The next is the ring of Demeter her face brown laced agate white bands swirled all over her face gold leafs some pronged with amber stones and green aventurine a band of gold the next ring is of Aphrodite her's is of a dark rose quartz small white pearls and ruby's surrounded her rose quartz face, Next is the ring of Athene her face is of bloodstone the dark hunter green spattered with red specs riddled her face the band is thick silver and her helmet was in nice details next is Hermes he is the only one made up of silver no stones also thick in band but really had the best details well for me anyways next was Hades a face of black spinel stone ruby's and amethyst surrounded his face but the most and my favourite ring is the Zeus one his face is of colorless opal his band matched his wife's Hera's of the four mixed metals his face had black matrix and the Zeus ring was the biggest.

I admired it for a while and looked back up to Richard by the window he wasn't just watching the snow fall there was a crowd around the castle, Lit up with torches. Wow I thought to myself what's going on it looks like there some sort of rally down there.

Richard narrowed his gaze at the crowd looking and scanning studying them, I looked at him intently wondering what he was thinking about still clutching the book of spells.

A knock at the door made the pensive mood in the room dissipate. "Enter." Richard replied hiding his book quickly under the pillow by the window. "Merry Christmas Richard you want to see what father got me." Tim said. dress in green and red attire. "Yes let's go down then dinner is ready." Richard said melancholy in his tone as he spoke.

I wonder why he sounded like that. I felt being cut and led to the next scene of this dream.

And I am in a dining hall. Richard's family eating at this great room decorated and filled with pies and fruits wine a big pig at the centre of the table, I looked at one pie in particular I stared at it I felt like I've eaten this before this pie is made up of red snapper fish potato garlic onions with peas and carrots.

I could even taste the flavours in my mouth.

I looked down and noticed Richard's hand there were only six rings now and it is the Zeus one that's gone, As Richard drank wine like it was nobody's. "Merry Christmas to all of you I hope you all be the...." There are big shouts coming from outside it interrupted Thomas speech as he puts down his goblet and frowns. "What's going on now it's Christmas what can we do to stop them from rallying what do they want." Thomas wasn't really of a knowing person I gather he was really oblivious of what was going on and I have no idea how I even knew this piece of information.

"They are rallying because of..... because of werewolves and they are attacking them this is no longer a fairy tale to frighten the young this is really happening father we need to address this matter to them we can't stay here and eat this feast like are people aren't being ravage by this evil plague on us." Bruce put down his food utensils it looked like he didn't touch his food at all dark circles forming under his eyes, His silver circlet around his head shined in the low candle light of the room a tired man who is tired of his father's antics and aloofness and I still didn't understand how I knew all of this either.

"Werewolf what are you talking about is this Richard telling his tales again ha. This is madness big dogs prowling the countryside and town stalking people as prey crazy talk." Thomas said drinking down his wine and waving one hand as if to dismiss the notion.

Richard looking at his father and out the window. "It won't get better your grace it will get worse we need to remedy their mind it's best to confront them." Richard's voice sounded so sweet like he is talking to a wild boar in some observation he was.

"We need to be more involved with them and that we are here to participate in their suffering." Bruce replied he got up as Richard soon followed Jason and Tim as well they got up bowed to the king and left the dining hall, As Bruce grabbed a torch off the wall they walked in silence it felt so surreal people bowing to them.

I was also being pushed out of the hall and into the cold court yard.

The knights opened the gate with a few guards trailling behind them they made it outside as the crowd went silent, There is a lot of people here this was not just like villagers there are people here who or wealthy this was not good and I have a feeling I am about to find out why.

As the royal family stood there facing the crowd one of the villagers stepped forward. "Your highness please here are pleas for aid in this turbulence as evil is taking us down by numbers these sub humans are.... ar... werewolves are relentless." A hefty man spoke like an honest man.

"I hear you and I am here to help my people my whole family is here for your cries for help." Prince Bruce announced to the crowd he came forward just a little towards the crowd.

"Thank you. Your highness there are too many attacks that happened today we had a lot of dead and too many injured people, They need a doctor or a healer we don't know where to go what faces us next just look at the fisherman he almost got ravaged by a werewolf not long ago." I couldn't believe what he was saying not the same fisherman not Joseph.

And I looked over and saw Joseph torch in hand among the crowd one arm wrapped in tattered rags, His face has two slash marks on his cheek It looks painful. He looked away not expecting to have the spotlight on him he shied away a little to the side.

"Please bring all who are injured we will tend to your wounds and ailments please come this way." Prince Bruce said as he ushered the sick and the weak towards the castle, I looked at Joseph holding the torch procrastinating behind the injured limping something made me watch him carefully the torched hand had the Zeus ring on his index finger that's when my heart stop if that was possible.

That's why Richard has six rings he gave the Zeus one away to Joseph, It's the one I like the most but he's going in there with the ring god what if anyone notice it won't be good I don't know why I know this but those rings are Christmas presents from prince Bruce.

"Hey where are you going you have to stay with your family and talk to your people. You are not a doctor nor a healer do you get me if the king is a failure I won't let his grandson be one." Holy smokes that was a raw interaction as prince Bruce gripped Richard's wrist hard and shook him a little.

At that moment Joseph approached the entrance of the castle I felt something at that moment as he passed by Bruce and Richard. But I looked at Bruce more closely and he held Richard hand hard as Richard fell silent as he watched Joseph go in the castle seeking aid for his wounds, This can't be right does Bruce know about Richard this can't be he can't know about this it's just not possible there's no way.

I felt like time stood still here as I watched all three of them in this brief moment interact.

Then I looked at Bruce and he noticed the Zeus ring on Joseph his eyes told me he had confirmed something that only Bruce knows and no one else. I still think this whole ring giving was to see perhaps to prove something to Bruce.

Richard does not know Bruce knowing about this till this day.

Bruce turned back to the crowd motivated speaking to them about finding courage and as he spoke I took one last look at Richard who stood still there emotions unreadable as I slowly woke up.

I stayed in bed but noticed that I wasn't alone in the room I looked to the bathroom we shared in the room, No I wasn't alone Richard was in the shower and he didn't close the bathroom door.

The best and worst films of 2020

Let’s be honest - 2020 was an extremely shitty year for moviegoers everywhere, as the Queen would say an annus horribilis.

Due to the Covid pandemic’s dramatic impact on nearly every facet of human life, cinemas closed, film festivals went virtual and film productions became an intricate mess of insurance and safety challenges.

Yet despite these dire challenges and an unpredictable future, cinema remained very much alive throughout the year, with a wide range of ambitious undertakings snaking their way into whatever form of release seemed viable. Blockbusters receded to the background, allowing a wide range of movies to trickle through an uncertain marketplace that would have been hostile to them even in pre-pandemic times.

So what cinematic gems and unmitigated disasters were dropped upon audiences during the year?

Ladies and gentlemen, may we please offer for your consideration...

2020′S TOP TEN BEST FILMS

10. THE WOLF OF SNOW HOLLOW

Hot off the critical success of his debut feature ‘Thunder Road,’ writer-director Jim Cummings’ refreshing yet effective take on the werewolf genre amped up the dark comedy whilst delivering quite a few chills. Tinged with realistically flawed characters and clever scares, ‘The Wolf of Snow Hollow’ might not have been your typical werewolf flick but it successfully managed to bring that classic legend to life once again.

9. LET HIM GO

Previously last seen together as Clark Kent’s adoptive parents in ‘Man of Steel,’ Diane Lane and Kevin Costner were reunited onscreen as husband and wife again in writer-director Thomas Bezucha’s neo-Western drama ‘Let Him Go.’ Adapted from author Larry Watson’s 2013 novel, the film featured stunning landscapes, full-blooded moments of sudden violence and compelling performances from Diane Lane, Kevin Costner and, most memorably, Lesley Manville’s turn as a gritty and cunning matriarch.

8. COLOUR OUT OF SPACE

Based on the classic short story by HP Lovecraft and featuring another scene-stealing performance from Nicolas Cage, this clever adaptation was an effective horror film with an unrelentingly grim sci-fi bent. In addition to the truly disturbing and inspired images of queasy body horror, ‘Colour Out of Space’ also marked the eagerly-anticipated re-emergence of filmmaker Richard Stanley (his first time back in the director’s chair since being fired from his 1996 remake ‘The Island of Dr Moreau’).

7. THE INVISIBLE MAN

Who knew a remake could be so refreshing? With this updated take on the H.G. Wells tale, writer-director Leigh Whannell did just about everything right, delivering a tense, clever thriller with touches of both horror and sci-fi. As the fascinatingly flawed yet appealing tough protagonist, Elisabeth Moss gave a captivating performance in a film that was chilling in all the right ways, packed with plenty of twists and a deliciously nasty resolution.

6. THE TRIAL OF THE CHICAGO 7 (NETFLIX)

Whilst the subject matter of ‘The Trial of the Chicago 7′ shared an uncanny relevance to today’s politically charged times, as a gripping courtroom drama with a stellar cast, the film ticked all the boxes. ‘West Wing’ creator Aaron Sorkin put his trademark traits - razor-sharp wit, rhetorical flair and political insight - to very good use in this masterful retelling of the trial following the 1968 anti-war protests outside the Democratic National Convention.

5. HEARTS AND BONES

In his debut feature film, Australian director Ben Lawrence created a spiritually rich and immersive drama about the relationship between a grizzled, broken war photographer and a Sudanese refugee. Whilst Hugo Weaving was note-perfect in his portrayal as a crumbling man wrestling with his past, equally impressive was first time actor Andrew Luri who delivered a quiet yet memorable performance in what was an affecting piece of cinema.

4. TOTALLY UNDER CONTROL (DOCUMENTARY)

Watching a documentary about the COVID-19 crisis in the middle of a global pandemic might not sound appealing but prolific filmmaker Alex Gibney’s latest work was easily the most essential non-fiction film of 2020. Shot safely in secret for five months, ‘Totally Under Control’ played out like a tightly-wound thriller as it placed the Trump Administration’s inept response to the coronavirus pandemic under the microscope.

3. BAD EDUCATION (HBO)

As far as crime stories go, embezzlement isn’t always the most thrilling subject. However, ‘Bad Education’ turned a relatively simple white collar crime story about a New Jersey school administrator caught stealing money into a compelling drama, thanks to an incisive and nimble script and spot on performances from Allison Janney, Geraldine Viswanathan, Ray Romano and especially Hugh Jackman.

2. MANK (NETFLIX)

Director David Finch’s dazzling portrait of Herman J. ‘Mank’ Mankiewicz, the screenwriter who collaborated with wunderkind filmmaker Orson Welles to write the first draft of ‘Citizen Kane,’ was a cinematic jewel from start to finish. Similar to last year’s ‘Once Upon A Time in...Hollywood,’ ‘Mank’ delivered a layered depiction of the filmmaking process, whilst Gary Oldman continued to excel at immersing himself in playing real-life characters, this time as the hard-drinking, intellectual screenwriter.

1. NOMADLAND

Writer-director Chloe Zhao’s intimate drama about an unemployed widow living as a van-dwelling modern-day nomad was a thoughtful, contemplative and reflective piece of storytelling. It may have touched upon mature themes about loneliness, financial instability and restlessness, but ‘Nomadland’ remained an uplifting and hopeful piece of cinema that captured the various bittersweet reasons people choose to live a life on the road.

With an outstanding performance from Frances McDormand, brought to life through the charm of the ‘real life’ supporting cast, great direction and Joshua James Richard’s mesmerising cinematography, ‘Nomadland’ was the perfect film for 2020.

...AND NOW THE WORST!

DISHONOURABLE MENTIONS

10. WONDER WOMAN 1984

To quote Red Letter Media’s resident film critic Mike Stoklasa, “this movie was the cinematic equivalent of the Bluesmobile.” Directed by Patty Jenkins, this 80′s-set sequel to the 2017 DC superhero hit was lethargically paced and featured a completely bonkers narrative that made absolutely no sense. Horribly scripted, disjointed and overstuffed (a runtime of 2.5 hours), ‘Wonder Woman 1984′ sadly jettisoned everything that made Jenkins’ original film so compelling. The result? An appalling misfire.

9. THE GRUDGE

A curiously talented and interesting cast were somehow lured into - and subsequently wasted in - this pointless, tired, reboot/revival of the long-running ‘Ju-On’ Japanese-based horror series. Despite director NIcholas Pesce’s attempt to disguise the rudimentary nature of the plot via back-and-forth timeline jumping, ‘The Grudge’ was just a formulaic paint-by-the-numbers meander through a poorly developed story that existed only to prop up a bunch of uninspired jump scares.

8. BIRDS OF PREY (AND THE FANTABULOUS EMANCIPATION OF ONE HARLEY QUINN)

There are many movies that have no reason to exist - and this latest misfire from DC Comics was one of them. Directed by Cathy Yan, ‘Birds of Prey’ was a mire of uninspired ideas and recycled genre conventions that got old real quick. Penned by Christina Hodson (’Bumblebee’ being the ‘highlight’ on her resume), the script was as simplistic as it was thin, with needless subplots merely introduced to inflate the film to a decent running time. Even Margot Robbie’s manic performance as the ‘Mistress of Mayhem’ couldn’t save this mess.

7. JAY AND SILENT BOB REBOOT

What could’ve been a dream film for fans of these two classic stoner characters instead was nothing but a string of cameos and callbacks in a plot-less bore. Director Kevin Smith sucked all the life and fun out of this watered-down story, that suffered from a constant series of awkward and forced jokes that were painfully unfunny. An unfortunate stinker.

6. AVA

This latest foray into the ‘female assassin for hire’ genre was about as cliched as you could get. An emotionally troubled female killer whose male mentor assumes the role of the surrogate father? Check. Pounding dance music score? Check. Obligatory nightclub fight sequence? Check. Confused love interest? You betcha! Humourless, dry and uninspired, ‘Ava’ played out like a poor man’s ‘La Femme Nikita.’

5. FANTASY ISLAND

Hollywood’s obsession with repackaging Gen-X childhoods continued with this absurd attempt to reboot the classic 1970′s TV series as a low-budget horror joint under the Blumhouse label. At a dangerously close two hour runtime, there was simply nothing interesting about the film’s characters or its inane plot about a mystical island that grants wishes (a’la ‘The Monkey’s Paw’). Our advice? Turn ‘de plane’ around if you ever plan to visit this ‘Fantasy Island.’

4. ARTEMIS FOWL

For every ‘Harry Potter’ that explodes into the public consciousness, there always seems to be a dozen or more failed franchises. Sadly, Disney’s ‘Artemis Fowl’ found itself in the latter category. Director Kenneth Branagh’s dull and superficial attempt to transfer this popular children’s book series from page to screen suffered from a lack of character development, an over-reliance in CG effects and featured a lifeless performance from newcomer Ferdia Shaw as the titular character.

3. HUBIE HALLOWEEN (NETFLIX)

A month before last year’s Oscar nominations were released, Adam Sandler joked on ‘The Howard Stern Show’ that if the Academy snubbed him for his role in the film ‘Uncut Gems,’ he would make a movie “that [was] so bad on purpose.” And that’s exactly what happened. Supposedly a comedy, ‘Hubie Halloween’ was unfunny, disposable and completely devoid of any originality. Sadly for audiences, Sandler signed a four-movie deal with Netflix last year, worth up to $275 million - so we can expect to see more of this shit soon!

2. ALIEN ADDICTION

Aliens visit New Zealand and get high smoking human faeces? Someone should have advised Kiwi director Shae Sterling that audiences have moved on from such puerile comedies as this abomination. Suffice to say, if anybody ever admitted to finding this film remotely funny, they’d probably be outcast from society. An embarrassment to all those involved.

1. THE BEACH BUM

Director Harmony Korine’s generic stoner comedy about a prolific poet who drifts through life in a drug-induced haze had all the natural high of an unfiltered, soggy joint and was easily, hands down, 2020′s worst film.

‘The Beach Bum’ was a pretentious and uninteresting movie whose lead character, considered to be an ‘artistic genius,’ was nothing more than a relentless shithead to everyone around him. As Moondog, the semi-naked, bongo-playing, pot-fuelled beat poet, Matthew McConaughey was insufferable and grating in his portrayal of a character you would quite easily want to punch in the face - repeatedly. Blazed and confused, ‘The Beach Bum’ had no plot, no class and no entertainment value whatsoever.

Contrary to his favorable people skills and warm Midwestern demeanor, there is some irony to Superman forming the Justice League. As Clark Kent, he grew up in the appropriately named Smallville, where he kept very few in his inner circle due to his alien origins. This way of life followed him as he became Superman, who in terms of crime fighting, is more of a loner than Batman. Besides the secrets he has to keep about himself, Clark has a naturally protective nature and would rather throw himself into the line of fire than risk anyone more vulnerable than himself. Outside of his fiancée Lana Lang/SuperWoman, Clark never wanted to take on a sidekick or other partners.

Eventually, a particularly nasty threat to Earth’s survival made him change his tune. Of all the heroes he worked with, Clark became the closest with Bruce Wayne/Batman and newcomer Diana Prince/Wonder Woman, forming sibling-esque ties with them. While Clark and Diana have similar powers and personalities, Bruce is significantly more aggressive and cynical. Instead of letting their conflicting philosophies make them rivals, Clark convinced Bruce that his team idea needed the Dark Knight’s experience and viewpoint as a non-metahuman hero. This incited Bruce to stand as a senior member and, without prompting, finance the operation.

The idea for Justice League Fellowship came more from Clark’s career as a journalist than a crime-fighter. While an unashamed American patriot, Superman always tried to distance himself from politics, wanting to view those around him as human beings as opposed to donkeys vs. elephants. However, when the rise of social media among other events eventually sparked a new age of civil upheaval, Clark wanted to act before the socio-political discourse of his parents’ day could be repeated. When certain media outlets began painting Superman and SuperWoman as overpowered privileged whites, Clark knew his status as the world’s hope symbol would not be enough. In addition to Bruce and Diana, Green Lantern John Stewart, Mari McCabe/Vixen, and Bruce’s oldest son Richard Grayson/Nightwing also joined Clark and Lana to battle for Earth. After their triumph, Clark proposed Justice League Fellowship to everyone. He emphasized his desire not for them to act as an imposing army but to establish a guild of different but equally heroic men and women with the same goals.

As JLF’s founder and commander-in-chief, Superman spends a lot of time in talks with world leaders and making executive decisions when necessary. He leaves the majority of inner JLF delegation in Wonder Woman’s capable hands. Clark has something of a sibling bond with the princess, connecting as “foreigners” with a yearn to help anywhere they can. Whatever their differences, Bruce and Clark are best friends and confide in each other often. Clark also gets along well with Richard along with Bruce’s youngest son, Tim Drake.

As both Superman and Clark, he has a natural rapport with children and the members of Young Justice Fellowship look to him with reverence.

Superman’s powers include flight, strength, invulnerability (to an extent), heat/x-ray vision, and heightened hearing. In addition to led and kryptonite, Clark’s sacrificial quality can be a huge detriment as well. When his shielding ways make him unintentionally overbearing, he has to be reminded that he must trust his teammates to hold their own. Regardless of his faults, the Man of Steel remains a kind and praise-worthy leader.

Being pregnant again was not on Vicki Vale's agenda, not when she's raising five boys and has to take care of her sister's children that she bas to take care of. Trying to keep the pregnancy from the father of her child, Bruce Wayne, wont be easy when she has to interview him at a charity event. Summary: Ren has a project due for her boss and Dick Grayson is there to save the day. In the midst, some secrets are revealed.

I jumped from rooftop to rooftop until I finally reached the coordinates Batman gave me. But, for the twentieth time these few months, a girl beat me to it. God, I had to be quicker. She took notice of my presence and popped another chip in her mouth. She motioned to the three gang members chained to the satellite and smirked, swinging her legs over the building, “Hey, Nightwing!” She shouted, moving off of the ledge and finishing off her chips, “Are those your guys?” She asked, kicking the unconscious head of the leader.

“Yes.” I replied, checking for a pulse on each of the felons, “I don’t understand how you keep beating me to these gigs.”

“Surprising to say the least, I’m the one wearing heels.” She smirked, “The media calls me Stardust, now.”

I nodded, waiting for Commissioner Gordon to get here so I could get back to my apartment. And more importantly, get back to Ren. I was supposed to help her with some project, “I’m still Nightwing. Are you going to wait for the police or am I?”

“Loser has to wait. Plus, I have somewhere to be.” She said, before taking off, hopping from roof to roof and eventually jumping off, to skim the streets I assume. It took forever for the Commissioner Gordon to arrive and I looked down at my watch, checking the time. I was already twenty minutes late. Ren was going to kill me. When I snuck through the window into my bedroom, I heard the knocking on my door.

“Dick! Wake up!” I heard her shout. I quickly threw open my closet and stripped out of my costume before locking it in the biometric safe.

I began to throw on some pants when I began to yell back, “I’ll be out in a second I’m just getting dressed.” I felt so bad, she was so tired last night after work but she had something to throw together for her boss that was due the next day and I promised I would help her. She was probably freaking out. I speedily threw on a shirt and tightened my watch around my wrist. Sometimes I wish I had super speed. I threw open the door to see a distraught girl, her hair messed up from her hands that were running through it in nervousness, “You good?” I asked, following her into her bedroom. It was covered in pastel pink decorations and littered with flowers of all kinds. It was the definition of girly, and that’s saying something for a young adult.

She picked up a magazine from her organized desk and threw it to me in a frenzy, “I have to come up with a whole new design for the cover and I have no clue what I’m going to do. How am I supposed to make Clark Kent look like somebody worth reading about? He’s a freaking farm boy!” She shrieked, her eyes widening. I stepped forward and pushed up her glasses before taking a seat in her white chair, spinning around and opening her laptop.

“Okay, Grayson is here to save the day.” I smirked, typing in her password. It’s been the same for three years. Rookie mistake. It’s always safer to keep changing it frequently. K1dFlashIsH0t9128. Not to mention, it was way overdue for an update. The Kid Flash I know isn’t Kid Flash anymore. I doubt she’d be in love with a boy who technically isn’t even born yet. Speaking of Bart Allen, I mean. “How about… The Superman of Media?” I suggested, looking to her for approval.

“Jesus, Grayson! You’re a genius!” She sighed, taking down her ponytail to redo it. She tied it up neater and straightened her sweater, “Hey, Dick? Is this outfit okay?”

I looked her up and down, taking into account her white blouse popping out from under her pink sweater. Her jeans looked nice enough and her pink ballet flats matched her sweater, “A necklace, maybe?”

She nodded and placed a long gold necklace over her head and let it hang down near her chest.

“Yep.” I approved, opening an editing software. I inserted the picture of Clark Kent and merged it with the magazine name, GOTHAM GIRL. Nice play of words, if I said so myself. Sounded like that show Ren used to watch when we first moved in together with none other than Jaime Reyes. What was it called? Gossip Girl? I was never one to watch girly shows, but Ren would just sit and watch while sipping some coffee. Jaime would just roll his eyes and run off to god knows where. It was mostly just Ren and I. She cooked dinner. She cleaned. She baked. I paid for rent and helped her with her projects. Jaime bought groceries, took out the trash, and got the mail. That was pretty much how we all worked together. I picked out a pink font that matched the title and typed, “Superman of Media - Clark Kent”. I moved the text box beside Clark and asked Ren for the highlights of the magazine. With each headline I added a different style of text to fill up the empty white space and inserted small designs to keep it fresh. Is Bruce Wayne Getting Bruce Laid? Is Your Boyfriend a Cheater? “This is amazing, Dick.” She looked at me with a sympathetic smile, “Thank you so much. I don’t know what I would do without you.”

“You would manage. It would’ve taken you two hours instead of thirty minutes, though.” I smirked, printing out the new cover. I stood up and walked over to the printer, handing her the sheet, “For you.” She accepted it into her hands and slipped it into a protective sheet before placing it into her folder.

“What did I do to deserve you, Dick Grayson?” She smiled, opening her door and walking out and into the kitchen.

“You cook for me.” I stated, sitting at the counter and watching her open the refrigerator.

She turned around with eggs, milk, blueberries, and other stuff I didn’t recognize, “I guess it’s true. Food is the way to a boy’s heart. Will Jaime be joining us this morning?” She asked, before pressing buttons to preheat the oven.

“No. Not today.” I replied, remembering he was out on a mission in Bialya. Ren wouldn’t know that. So I covered for him, “He’s on vacation.”

“Oh.” She replied, slightly hurt, “He didn’t tell me. I guess I’ll go get groceries when I get home from work.” She sighed, trying to hide her emotions. I guess she relied on Jaime more than I thought.

I smiled softly before standing up and stirring the batter she whipped together seconds ago, “No worries. I’ll get groceries today.” She smiled and walked to the bathroom, surely to finish getting ready.

“Thanks.” She said softly, playing some music to fill in the silence.

I sighed and mumbled under my breath, “Anything for you.”

She whipped around with furrowed eyebrows, “Did you say something?”

I looked up at her slender body with a face of fake confusion, “No. Why?”

“Nothing.” She looked down for a slight second, uncertainty still present on her face. She continued on her way to the bathroom as I started filling the muffin pan with the batter. I waited for the oven to ding and I placed the tray on the shelf before closing the door. I set the timer to 17 minutes under her instruction and walked into the bathroom, finding myself watching Ren do her makeup. She didn’t seem to notice me standing behind her, but once her eyes met mine she jumped up in fear, “I didn’t notice you standing there.” She laughed nervously, “Did you need to use the bathroom?”

“No. I was just watching you do stuff to your eyelashes.” I pointed to the contraption she placed on the counter.

She laughed and pointed to the silver device before telling me sit on the counter. I did as told and relaxed as her fingers grazed my face. I flinched when she brought it close to my eyes but gave in when she tilted my chin down, “This is an eyelash curler. Don’t worry, it won’t hurt.” She bit her lip, and my eyes widened when she began squeezing the device. I began to pull back but she stopped me by giving me a firm look, “It will hurt if you pull.” She released the handle and removed the device out of my line of sight before smiling. She pointed to the mirror behind me and I turned around, taking notice of my eyelashes. They seemed to move up and not out.

“How…” I started, turning to look at her.

She placed her finger on my lips, shushing me, “Don’t question it, Grayson. It’s a gift. Speaking of which, it’s almost your birthday! What do you want?”

“To spend time with my friends and family.” I smiled slightly. Ren punched my side and I winced, watching her eyes turn from playful to worry.

“Are you hurt? What happened?” She asked, searching me for any further damage.

I looked down at her in all seriousness, “It’s nothing, really. I just got a little roughed up the other day.” Roughed up by the Penguin.

“Well if it’s little then you’ll let me see it.” Ren sighed, grabbing onto my shirt, beginning to pull it up.

I quickly pushed her hand away, knowing she’ll freak once she sees it, “It’s fine.” I scolded, giving her my most reassuring look.

She poked my side once more and rolled her eyes when I sucked in a sharp breath, “It’s not fine, Richard. Let me help you.”

“I don’t need help.” I replied coolly.

She gave me a glare, rendering me motionless and she pulled up my shirt, her eyes widening, “Dick… this is not fine.” I glanced down at the open gash down my side and sighed. I should’ve told Batman - but I was told not to investigate. And I investigated.

She took my shirt off fully and reached up into the cabinet, pulling out a first aid kit, “What are you doing?” I asked, grabbing her hand for comfort.

“Cleaning then stitching.” She replied, softly, shoving a rag in my mouth, “It’s going to hurt.” She wet another rag with wound disinfectant and pressed it to my side, frowning at my disturbed face. Better get myself turbed. I shifted softly and regained my defiant composure. She stitched me up bandaged my side before staring into my eyes. “Who did this to you?” She asked as I pulled on my shirt.

I couldn’t tell her the truth. So I did something I swore I would never do to her. I lied. “Just a couple of guys on the streets who wanted some money. Don’t worry about it.”

She looked me straight in the face, “Come on, Dick. Is there something you want to tell me?”

I kept my composure, “No.”

“I know who you are. I’m surprised you haven’t figured it out, Nightwing.” She replied, letting her hair down. I watched as the bombshell curls cascaded down her face and as she removed the glasses that hid some of her most defining features. I should have known before. I should’ve seen it. But I become so blind when it comes to her.

“Stardust.” I whispered, stepping forward and pushing her hair behind her ear. “But you never seem to be hurt…” I trailed, my eyebrows furrowing in confusion.

“You boys don’t expect a girl to fight well. They go easy on me, thinking I can’t handle it. That’s their mistake. Boys usually stick to what’s comfortable. You with your sticks or whatever. Everyone else with guns and weapons wielded from afar. They’re afraid to get close and they’re afraid to be bad at new things. So they stay with what they know, leaving them with only one strong attribute. Us women are well-rounded. We’re used to being seen as defenseless. We’re used to being seen as ones who cannot do as well as men. So we train ourselves to be better. It’s a gift and it’s a curse. It’s a blessing in that we women have an element of surprise, but it’s upsetting to know that we have to prove ourselves to be worthy of your standards. I am a woman, Dick Grayson. I was taught how to hide by you savages. I can cover my tracks. I can conceal my pain.” She smirked, “I can follow by your rules. Or at least, you think I succumb to your words. I nodded softly, “You’re a good detective.”

“It doesn’t take a detective to figure out who you are. It takes a friend.” She corrected, walking to her room. She changed out of her bloody clothes, courtesy of my stitches and walked out of her bedroom with a solid blue crop top that hugged her figure and a floral, satin blue midi-skirt that was the exact same shade. Her blue heels were a solid royal blue that matched her tank and she looked at me with a sense of content, “I am your friend, Grayson. I used to think that I was your best friend, but best friends tell each other when they’re hurt and when they’re in trouble. I understand why you didn’t tell me you’re Nightwing. I didn’t tell you I was Stardust. But I would at least expect you to tell me when you’ve been hurt. Especially of this severity.”

She pushed up her glasses and combed her hair down with her fingers when I spoke, “I’m sorry.”

“You shouldn’t be sorry, Richard. They were your choices, and you have to live by them. You should know that, of all people.” She hesitated as her hand laid on the apartment door handle, “I thought…”

The silence became deafening, “What?”

She sighed before running a hand through her perfect hair, “I love you, Richard. And I thought you loved me too. I thought…” She trailed, seconds before she spoke again, “I care for you, Richard. I just assumed you cared for me as well. I thought you cared for me and my safety. And I thought you cared for yourself and your safety. Apparently, this is only a one way street where I thought it was two.”

“I love you. So goddamn much.” I blurted out, my emotions laced with each word. Ren looked up at me in disbelief, “Yes, I love you. And I care for you. I believed that keeping these things from you would keep you safe and happy but I was wrong. I’m not afraid to admit my mistakes, Ren. I love you, okay?”

“Okay. I’ll see you later.” She whispered, not accepting my words as the truth. She grabbed her silver purse and opened the door, about to step out. I had to make her believe. I had to let her know. I ran forward before she could leave and I grabbed her hand in mine, yanking her towards me. I pressed my lips against hers before she could comprehend and felt her eventually ease into the action.

“Hey, Grayson.” The door flew open. I pulled away and saw Damian walking in with sunglasses, a black shirt with blue jeans and his regular red converses, “Hey, Star.”

“Hey, buddy!” Ren grinned, running over and wrapping Damian in a hug. Wait… Damian knew when I didn’t? He laughed softly - something Damian never did and hugged her back. “I have to get to work. You want to come with me again?” She asked, raising an eyebrow and nudging his shoulder. Damian nodded and pulled a muffin out of the pan Ren took out earlier. He scoffed it down and looked at me in all seriousness.

“Clown face is calling for all seven of our heads. Yours, Ren’s, Barbara’s, Dad’s, Idiot Number One’s, Idiot Number Two’s, and mine.” Damian stated, grabbing the whole pan and picking up his bookbag.

Ren laughed, “Oh god. That’s cute. He can barely take Batman on his own - what makes him think he can take all seven? At the same time, no less.”

I grabbed my laptop and opened the front door, pressing the button to the elevator and stepping in with the other two. Damian tapped his foot impatiently and Ren tapped away on her phone, probably to her boss. I looked towards the two, “I don’t know what he’s up to, but it’s something we’ve never faced before. He has something up his sleeves and - ” The elevator door opened and an elderly woman stepped in, her face shielded by a hat. We all stood in silence, except Ren.

“Yes.” Pause. “Yes, I have it.” Another pause. “I understand. Yes, he will be coming with me today.” She laughed softly, “Got it.” Her eyes widened and she instantly pulled a notepad and a pen out of her bag and began writing, “Okay. Cesar Salad, dressing on the side. No tomatoes. Croutons, five exactly.” Pause. “Yes, of course. The raspberry iced tea with the cylindrical ice in a separate cup. And the usual for breakfast?” Pause. “Caramel Macchiato, no foam, coconut milk with a splash of soy instead of low-fat, and a dash of cinnamon. Plus a warm apple cinnamon muffin from Jackie’s. Is that all?” There was a long pause before the elevator opened again to reveal the lobby, “Six PM at Kergesin’s for two on the terrace.” She smiled and relaxed a bit before continuing, “No. That is not a problem - at all. I’ll make it happen.” She hung up the phone and took a deep breath. The old lady seemed traumatized. Hell, even I was traumatized. Damian just walked with a smirk, eating another muffin before throwing the muffin pan in the back seat of Alfred’s car. I climbed in the front seat and smiled as Ren and Damian walked down the street quickly, making it seem easy to weave through the city goers. What did Batman need this time?

Ren’s POV

“Yeah, and then he kissed me.” I said, exasperated.

Damian smirked, “He’s gross, sometimes.”

I rolled my eyes, “I mean it wasn’t gross. It was nice. It was just unexpected. Did Tim or Jason hurt you this morning?” I asked, checking for any sign of damage, “I’ll beat them up for you.” I smiled, pulling open the door to Jackie’s. I walked up to the counter and smiled at the familiar waiter.

The day went by slowly, but this morning’s encounter with Dick made things ten times better, and having Damian help me out through the day was a blessing. Overall, today was the best so far.
