Going back to my headcanon that while yes Dongfang Qingcang is canonically a 30,000-year-old virgin (and he has no shame about this, good for him), he has more knowledge of gay sex than any other kind because the man spent most of his life on the battlefield and UNDOUBTEDLY encountered his men getting it on multiple times.

Imagine him, when new to being at war, unashamedly asking Shangque about it because who else would he ask. And why be ashamed or embarrassed? At this point he has no capacity for that.

(And no, I don't think he'd care. He probably does not GAF what his men do during their free time as long as they get the job done.)

i think one of the reasons i love tgcf and mdzs is because of how seriously they take platonic love.

in tgcf, hua cheng and xie lian's love starts out as romantic but in a non-sexual way. they like each other because they have a lot in common, they like talking to each other, and they just generally turn every task into a two-person job so they can spend time together. both xie lian and hua cheng definitely read as demisexual to me and the story is pretty ace-friendly in my opinion. you've also got the xianle trio's love for each other and xie lian and shi qingxuan's friendship.

in mdzs, i think it's so important that wei wuxian started out as lan wangji's first ever friend. not to mention, you've also got whatever the fuck jiang cheng and wei wuxian have going on, the platonic love between the wen siblings and wei wuxian, xiao xingchen and song lan (i know there are romantic readings of their relationship but they're depicted as platonic in the story from my interpretation), and there's a lot of familial love (ex. wangxian and lan sizhui, wei wuxian and jiang cheng with jin ling, etc.).

I'm kind of equally inspired on a few different fics right now, so I'm reaching out for feedback on which one to work on after I finish Desert Moon. All are Canglan!

I have more info on some of these fics, including snippets, on the Haro fic tag.

Android AU- Jokingly called the 'chobits AU' because DFQC is a defective sex android found in the trash by Xiao Lanhua. Nothing else actually in common with Chobits lol. They work in a greenhouse together and fall in love. Demisexual DFQC+Trans girl XLH. I have posted some snippets from this that can give a better vibe than my rambling ahaha.

Soulmate AU- Or anti-soulmate AU more like. Have probably posted the least about this. Starting out as a very typical soulmate AU; XLH works at one of the international registry offices where people put their soulmate marks in a database in hopes of finding their match somewhere in the world. Her soulmate lives far away, but he seems like he's the man of her dreams (Changheng of course). In the time before she has the chance to actually meet him, she meets someone else; Dongfang Qingcang, who has no soulmate mark, and thus does not believe he can fall in love.

Figure Skating AU- Have posted snippets and some info about this. For his entire life, DFQC has been under the iron thumb of his coach and father, and as a competitor, he's thrived. As a person, he's pretty much a husk. Xiao Lanhua is an incredibly talented skater who faded into obscurity after her junior years, and on a whim, she throws her info up on whatever this fic's version of icepartnersearch is to see if anyone would be up to doing a pairs tryout with her. Meanwhile DFQC has just suffered what may be a career ending injury, right before the Olympic games he was favored to win... but Shangque has an idea that might give him another chance.

tl;dr it's the Canglan pair skating AU.

Xiyun/DFQC AU- I actually have two ideas for this, but I think I've settled on this one. We discussed a concept like this in the LBFAD discord, and I ate it up. Story is that after Xiyun is sealed, she has to go through some mortal trials to strengthen her primordial spirit. Meanwhile, DFQC is going down to the mortal realm because Xiyun's mortal family has something that he believes can help him unseal the 100k soldiers (so yeah, canon divergence where he gets away obviously). This artifact is connected to Xiyun's true identity, but DFQC doesn't know that. In order to get access to the artifact, he has to marry into mortal!Xiyun's family. Meanwhile, Xiyun's latent powers awaken his love tree...

Most of the story actually takes place once Xiyun's immortal incarnation has passed on. The two don't realize until they meet again, the true identity of the person they fell in love with in the mortal realm. Upon getting injured in battle (after all, his hellfire is dissipating), Xiyun takes DFQC into hiding to help him recover, and so they can reconcile what happened before. They fall in love (again) of course and irrevocably change the three realms. To note, in my mind, Xiyun is raised in a manner that really allows her to be her true self, so although she's a little more worldly than the Xiao Lanhua we meet, she's still very much XLH.

The only reason this description is longer is because I haven't really talked about this fic anywhere.

Character: Draco Malfoy (HP) Why I love them: I don't. I love the version of him I frankensteined together from fics I read/wrote as an undiagnosed autistic preteen who wished I knew how to be meaner, and was hopelessly demisexually gay for a brunette with glasses.

Character: Uzumaki Naruto (Naruto) Why I love them: Emotionally neglected ADHD powerhouse who thinks "what do 600 hot girls look like? Love me an asshole who dedicates his life to love and friendship. Yusuke's narrative is basically "Obviously all yokai are evil. Wait, some aren't (some of my best friends are yokai)? Wait, most aren't (I actually really enjoy the yokai world/community)? Wait, I'M a yokai? (THAT'S why I am the way I am, and actually that's not evil it's just different)??? So there's evil humans AND evil yokai but neither are inherently bad, MOST are just regular people on both sides, and both are worth protecting" and anyway this is a neurodivergent and queer allegory to me, which slaps severely.

Character: Luke Fon Fabre (Tales of the Abyss) Why I love them: Nobody's doing character growth like this little shit. An icon. It takes like 30 hours of gameplay for him to become likable and when he does it's somehow genuinely worth it.

Character: Changheng (Love Between Fairy and Devil) Why I love them: (I'm picking only one character per story, which is the only reason Xiao Lanhua and Dongfang Qingcang aren't also on this list.) You're telling me the God of War's narrative is a "tragic princess, betrothed since childhood, can't escape her family's expectations, constantly has to put everyone else above herself, until finally she snaps" story blended with "man who has been forced to live in war, falls for the first person who acknowledges that he, too, needs protection, ultimately rejects the violence he's been forced to endure and enact in favor of pursuing peace" and I'm what? NOT supposed to go insane? Also his nose freckle gives me heart palpitations.

Character: Logan Echolls (Veronica Mars, specifically season 1) Why I love them: What an excellent example of a badly coping shithead jerk fuckup boy who would be SO soft in any context where he's not under constant threat. Something about his mouth-breathing under duress compels me.

Character: Kyo (Fruits Basket) Why I love them: Badly coping under duress, the entire system is stacked against him, anger management issues and the snatched waist of a 90's manga twink. What can I say, a feral cat finding stability and love gets me every time.

Character: Xue Yang (MDZS) Why I love them: Irredeemable asshole feral cat ass man, coping badly at all times with all things but holding it together with a winning personality (gratuitous violence and bad jokes). Choko is talking about this clip from SDOC3, which was edited/censored out of the episode that aired at the time and only recently came to light when a dance studio shared it on Weibo.

I've seen a lot of different reactions to this clip over the past couple of days. A lot of people view DD's response as being very gay, very into how hot and steamy this performance is.

DD definitely shows a lot of enthusiasm for the performance. And it's true that it's inconceivable that DD would ever respond quite this enthusiastically or openly to a similar performance from a woman. We all know how he responded to sexy dances from women during that same season.

However, I personally didn't interpret his reaction in quite the same way a lot of fans have. I don't see DD's reaction as sexual or aroused or drooling or whatever.

If you look at XJJ's performance, a lot of the moves are typical - even stereotypical - 'striptease', 'burlesque' kind of moves women have commonly performed in the past. It's a very sensual, sexual, seductive performance, the type of thing that is usually associated with femininity/women.

Men aren't typically seen doing this type of thing. Social and cultural norms don't allow men to present this sort of open, seductive sensuality in public.

I think DD (and Jackson too, for that matter) is reacting to the stunning way XJJ is breaking down barriers with his performance. His enthusiasm is for the bold courage and incredible skill being shown by XJJ, to do this sort of performance in public, in CHINA, on TV, for a group of male judges. XJJ has balls of steel. 😅

To a queer guy like DD - and like myself and a couple of others whose reactions I've heard from - this performance is powerful and striking in its bravery. As one person said - and I agree - queer people (and I think especially queer men) are ultra conscious of how to behave in public so as not to become a spectacle or create a fuss or draw attention to our queerness.

Seeing another guy do all of that so brazenly, yet so naturally and unselfconsciously, is jaw-dropping. He makes it look easy, and he shows us a glimpse of 'what could be' if the world wasn't so utterly fucked up.

I think that's why we see DD practically jumping the couch over what XJJ is giving on that stage.

It's inspiring to see a guy perform so beautifully and sensually in a setting like that.

And DD expresses in his comments afterward that he is impressed that XJJ was able to captivate 5 'street dance' men in the way that he did. It's a testament to how well he performed that sensuality.

So it's kind of difficult for me to clown about this clip or get all gleeful about what it says about DD's sexuality. I don't think it really has much to do with his sexuality. At least, not directly. It's more of a cultural thing, and very meaningful, to witness a man openly defying gender stereotypes and norms in this way.

And no doubt some of the political implications of that are likely why the clip was censored in the show that aired. The government there considers it very inappropriate for men to step out of the very tight, very constrictive box it's trying to keep them in.

Obviously none of us know what was going through DD's head, but based on my impressions of him, that's my take on it.

As for DD being demisexual, I guess it's possible, but I don't personally see him that way.

i feel like i'm not very original and don't have many hcs that are unique to me but i have a few thoughts:

i like to think xiao didn't choose his human form, like he just kinda hit the randomize button on the character creation screen and that's how he came out. and he would be surprised to learn that he's considered attractive by mortal standards (in canon so many npcs refer to him as handsome and dashing etc ahdhd they love their pretty guardian yaksha). i think he doesnt really understand how attraction works since i hc him as demisexual and stuff related to that just perplexes him. in aus i think it's very fun for demi xiao to catch feelings for venti and be very concerned bc the man is over 3000 years old and he's never felt attraction before. he'd probably think he's dying.

also i dont care what anyone says it only makes sense that xiao's hands are green under his gloves because All of his yaksha siblings have colored hands. bonus points for claws. it's canon 2 me that xiao has rough calloused green hands with sharp pointy claws
