to this day i can't get over how stupid it was to remove the headphone jack from phones. now if you want to use wired headphones you have to use the charging port. and then they made a stupid little external adapter you have to plug in that sticks out of your phone and advertise it as Hey now you can listen to music AND charge your phone at the same time! what an innovation! if only we could have done that before! the thing i want most from these increasingly sleek and efficient shapes and designs is to have a bunch of external bullshit sticking out of it to make it as clunky as possible! next they will remove the call function from your phone entirely and in order to make phone calls you will need to attach it by a twirly cable to an external keypad that plugs into the wall, and to enhance the speaker/microphone you'll be able to set your nice neat rectangle into a banana shaped device that sits nicely against your ear and mouth. and that's what we call innovation

Your Batman as king, children as princes thing has me THINKING. There’s a very teehee funny angle here but there’s also an angle of the kids trying over and over again to place that power in his hands. The kids protecting Batman first no matter what. The play of frustrations there… when Bruce rejects that position what does it say about them, as the “princes”? When Bruce won’t let them protect him, what does that mean about their positions and their relationships to Batman?

Yeah! I was rambling a bit in the tags of that post so I'll try and clean them up into coherent sentences here. Jason can be the Prince of Gotham and Bruce can be pissed about that, but what it really means is that, by default, Bruce is the king now. He just doesn't realize it. Bruce Wayne, the figure, is still the Prince of Gotham because he hasn't raised a successor up. But Batman? He's a King, in all but name. There's some things you outsource, at a certain point. Him delegating Gotham (in part) to his children is one of those interesting transfers of power, subtle as it is. A lot of Bruce's issues come from him still trying to play Prince right against his own kids. He has so much power, so much respect and deference from them, but he doesn't understand. He doesn't see how, even as Jason claws at his own power, there's so much of it he wants to give back to Bruce, if that makes sense. All of his children want to give it back to him -- they do the groundwork and bring back issues and patrol routes etc for his audience. They counsel him, but they still look to him for a final decision. They might not fully abide by the decision, but it's still his city. And there's a certain amount of respect that title begets. Even from prodigal sons like Jason and Dick, with their own loyalties.

I haven’t noticed until this re-read, “Darry is always rough without meaning to be.” Is a quote I see a lot. But it struck me this time around to read “Darry is always rough with me without meaning to be.”

It shows their relationship, and it is aided by the fact this is all written by Pony after the fact so he can sprinkle some of his newer insight into the story. Darry is rough on him but he doesn’t mean to be- not rough, not harsh. He probably pictures it as the same “tough love” he’d always given except for that shift in their relationship from brother to guardian. He has to lay it on more now, Soda says it so perfectly with “it’s just because you’re the baby.” (17?)

You really get to see Pony’s reaction to that here too as he immediately compares Darry to how their father reacted to things. “He’s not sorry actually. dad wouldn’t do that. And he had nice eyes not big dumb stupid mean eyes anyway.” He’s so 14 and we love him but genuinely it’s such a great show of both their mindsets at a time Pony is yet to understand his brother’s.

It’s so much more personal that he says, with me. As we’ve seen Darry interact with the others and we heard the way Pony talks about how he started acting all weird to him! He’s not rough on anyone else, not in that same way a brother- made guardian has to be on the baby brother. Ow.

Maybe it's just my major fear of being a useless burden, but the fact that Stolas was literally so depressed and dissociating and just kinda going through the motions and was so completely out of it that he didn't react to hsving trash thrown on him and didn't even bother to try and lift himself back up when he went in the bathtub and literally has nothing left yet Blitzø still offered him a place to stay and helped him and guided him into his home and bathed him while saying that it'll be alright and lifted his head out of the water and double checked to make sure be didn't do it again and got up from the couch so Stolas could lay down and didn't ever seem annoyed by him or berate him or treat him as a liability and seemed genuinely caring and willing to help without complaint almost made me want to cry
