What did/do you like about Pharah?

Uh, gameplay-wise, I really love characters in shooters who rely on three-dimensional movement techs. Chaining together hover and jump to stay in the air for as long as possible and keep momentum is so satisfying, and picking enemies off from the sky made me feel like a bird of prey. I was a good Pharah main.

Story-wise, there unfortunately isn't much to canonically go off because Pharah is so underutilized and neglected. Her personality's pretty boilerplate "heroic hero" (she's literally inspired by Captain America).

But it's the crumbs/bits and pieces that I really latched onto. Pharah's a confirmed lesbian; her short story with Baptiste implies she harbors a crush on Mercy (fucking thank you.). She's biracial Egyptian/First Nations. She has major mommy issues, having grown up both admiring and resenting Ana. She's the bridge between Old Overwatch, inspired by the idealized heroes who surrounded her childhood, and New Overwatch. She's one of the only inter-generational characters in the cast; someone whose experiences span the gap, which is why I seriously believe Pharah would make a great main character.

There isn't much to go off of, though; she's a very uncomplicated character (she's a soldier for a private military corporation, lol.). But that just means she's a blank slate character, so I've seen fanfic writers run wild and create some really interesting takes on her. My favorite interpretation of her's a dense, herbo gym-bro type (a lot of her liens are about work outs, exercising, and playing sports) who's easily excitable under her seemingly self-serious, armored visage. We see how she tends to gloat and hype herself up when she's on a streak too, so Pharah definitely has a competitive and boastful side under her more professional and militant performance.

Now Mercy? Mercy is a real complex character.

Okay, what if we combine the "Danny is Bruces bio child he didn't know about" with "Danny is dating Tims clone that Tim didn't know about" and "Danny now lives in the IR after shenanigans happen that prevent him from living in his home dimension"

So, Bruce nearly has a heart attack from finding out he has another bio son out there, Tim freaks out about having a clone and being a father, they both have simultaneous heart attacks after they learn they were dating eachother and have to sit down.

Half the family is practically having aneurysms over these kids and the other half is making fun of the fist half. Then they start learning about Dannys crappy childhood and whatever fresh hell the clone went through and suddenly they're not laughing anymore.

Danny at some point yells "You're not my dad!" to Bruce and the bats comfort him in thier own ways

Featuring: Danny renouncing his humanity and staying in his ghost form 24/7 which is suuuuper unhealthy, clone Tim being clingy, gratuitous handholding, Danny and Tim Jr being cute as f, arson, those last two not being mutually exclusive, Danny and Tim Jr exploring ghost cities, accidentally triggering Jason's ptsd, clown murder, cornhobbling, the whole bat family trying to adopt a pair of children who don't want to be adopted and are living out a romance novel in the most dramatic explody way possible, and so much more :D

Something that I think is really funny is that the word Anaklysmos (Riptide) doesn't even exist, it's just a combination of a suffix that means above and the verb κλύζω which means to ripple😭 [Help, even my Greek keyboard doesn't even recognize the word]

I read these books when I was 12 and as a native Greek speaker that also studied ancient Greek for 6 years, I fully thought this was an actual word because it sounds Greek but it's not 😭 Mf Rick Riordan gaslit me in my own language. Apparently he asked an ancient Greek professor and told him that this was the closest word he could use but like, my question is why😭? There are so many already existing words that are related to the sea and even if they don't directly translate to 'Riptide', just pick a Greek word and paraphrase it when translating it to English like it's not hard 😭

ya know having spent the last year living in a trailer has changed my perception of adam parrish a little bit do you gave any idea how silent this kid had to be to avoid getting his ass beat every day? how careful he had to be about all of his movements? you can feel and hear literally everything in a trailer like someone rolls over in their sleep and it shakes the whole thing sometimes and I literally cannot stress enough how you can hear everything both inside and out and it's so stressful sometimes and it gets so fucking hot in the summer and if the heating goes out in the winter it gets so so so cold to the point where really the only difference between outside and inside is that there's no wind inside and honestly this kid's gucking willpower is insane just to keep living in that trailer with his father despite having people who could very easily get him out like i get why he didnt want to leave that but holy shot dude it could have been so much easier if he just did I get why he's such a bitch now

is it normal to feel like you might not actually be femme bc of your physical appearance? every femme i've ever seen just had this natural beauty and glow, and i just don't have that, i'm ugly. i feel really drawn to the identity in every other way, but i feel like a monster next to other femmes. like.. if i look so different and feel like that there has to be a reason, maybe because im something else. and yeah technically i know femme doesn't have a specific body type or look, but i don't think ugly femmes exist.

I feel like in their own way almost every femme has felt like that, unfortunately, anon, like they don't belong or really inadequate around other femmes, most femmes I've known and talked to, at the very least. I have been feeling really inadequate and unwelcome and just weird in the community lately because of some things I went through recently and I'm still not too sure how to get back from that.

It does make me feel sad that so many of us feel like that and I think it's a two part problem. The first part speaks about our own insecurities, the ways we see ourselves and how we compare ourselves to others since they've been made the standards of the identity by others and sometimes by us too. The second part is the community praising and recognising almost only a very set pattern of traits that makes the rest of us feel like "if I'm not like that, then something must be wrong with me". That goes for the way you behave, to the way you describe yourself, to the things you like and dislike and it's a lot, it's tiring.

Sometimes people talk about this standard as if it needs to be protected like it's in danger of extinction, the very expected/standardized idea of femme (skinny, cis passing, hyperfeminine, pink and girly, always with makeup and hair done), it's silly. I mostly feel an immense sense of unfairness from all that. It inherently defeats the nature of femme, if it's made to be one size fits all.

I wish it weren't so, I wish the diversity of femmes in so much more than beauty (and in beauty too, since it's what you mentioned here) and more ways of doing femme, existing as femme were more widely recognised in the community, but we still have a long way to go to achieve that, I think.

What I want to tell you is: I'm sorry you're feeling like that, especially around other femmes. That's not how we're supposed to make each other feel, intentionally or not.

this idealised femme very much doesn't exist, what gets posted on the internet isn't what we look like a lot of the time*: it's not us feeling sick or tired or having a difficult day with disabilities, it's not us just finishing work after a long week, it's not us handling things with our partners, running around having to organize things at home, general responsibilities and not be late for work, it doesn't show us when we're sad and we're feeling less than strong and brave. This idealised notion of femme sometimes takes away from our humanity playing weaknesses and flaws, real or perceived, as not femme. And femme importantly isn't about beauty as you know, but it is about those things that don't get shown a lot too.

The way you're feeling is common, a lot of the time I'm right there with you, I wish it weren't common though. And for what it's worth, it might be a lot of you doubting yourself, though I'm sure it's not the entire issue. All kinds of femmes exist, so many of us, an amazing variety.

I'm not sure how helpful this is, but ugliness and beauty are subjective, but also exacerbated by silly standards. Be careful with those. Also thank you for trusting me with this and giving me a space to speak about my own feelings, anon, even without knowing.

*mind you, almost every time I post a picture I have makeup on or it's a time I feel really good about myself and it doesn't happen for the majority of the time.

I'd like to watch or read Heartstopper, but since I'm romance-repulsed I don't know if it's something I'd like. When the romance's queer it's not that bad usually. So I have a request for you. Could you rate the level of romance and/or amatonormativity for me? It'd really help me

There's LOTS of romance. Really, it's been a while since I saw a show with that many romantic scenes.

In short, I don't think it's for you, honestly.

I'm gonna put a list of the main ships and what happens with them (without names) under the cut:

mlm main ship: lots of romantic tension. Almost every time they are on screen. It's really a lot. They get together in the first season, and then navigate their relationship through the second season. As soon as they get together, they kiss and make out a lot.

mlm ship: A secret, toxic relationship in the first few episodes of season season one before the main ship gets together. They make out a few times but there's not that much about romance with this one (imo) because it is toxic. Also includes assault.

wlw ship: they are already together when the show starts. They are seen kissing every other episode and there are quite many romantic scenes with them, although the romantic tension isn't as strongly shown as with the main ship (imo).

mlw ship (with trans woman): A best friends to lovers situation. A few times, it's teased that they are possibly attracted in a romantic way to each other in season one. They get together in season two. And from then on, there's a lot of romantic tension with kissing. I'd say the romantic tension is similarly portrayed as with the main ship (which means very strongly) .

mlm ship: starts towards the end of season two. They low-key flirt in a few scenes (which wasn't as obvious as with the other ships imo) and kiss once.

I might have forgotten some. Please tell me if that's the case or if you think my summary is wrong (to those who have watched it, of course)
