Hey I liked your writing on reader having to get in between Wolverine and Deadpool all the time 😆 it made me think what it would be like if they were crushing on you and there is a rivalry between them. If you could write what they’d do to win your favor or what shenanigans that would come with it 😂 subtle or not
Tumblr media
These two weren’t fond of sharing.
So when the other finds that they have similar feelings towards you, the outcome is never good.
They’re childish in a way where if either Logan or Wade was coincidentally standing too close to you, the other was bound to notice and make a scene out of it, all the while you wished you were anywhere else in that moment.
The pair couldn’t get along even if they bothered to try as sooner or later they’d end up stabbing each other just because the other one was breathing too loudly or just merely existing.
And yet their feelings towards you ends up causing Logan and Wade to butt heads more often, especially if you were constantly teaming up together, with you often being their meditator in all their conflicts.
Wade was more vocal and borderline flirty when it came to interacting with you, he would crack jokes, boop you on the nose or even playfully smack you on the ass just to hear your yelp in surprise and become all flustered.
‘Plush ass you’ve got there, babe! wouldn’t mind laying my head on it sometime and use it as a beautiful fluffy pillow.’ - Wade, skipping away.
Wade could be quite clingy at times so there would be moments where you can barely escape the guy as he hanging on your side like a koala bear.
You: Wade can you let go.
Wade: and let go of my emotional support person? *gasp* Do you want me to die?
You: well considering how fast you regenerate, you technically can’t die-
Wade: do you hate me? Do you think I’m clingy?
You: no- well yes but-
Wade: you hate me!
Wade can be dramatic and the only way to shut him up is to just let him be in close proximity of you and allow him to talk your ear off about how good a dog parents you’d be to Dogpool.
Dogpool is your weakness, you could never say no to Dogpool and Wade knows this like the back of his hand and will use this as leverage over wolverine.
After all It’s not like he has a version of himself that was an actual wolverine or maybe even a honey badger in yellow spandex. So Wade counts this as a win on his end.
Logan on the other hand would be more subtle with his approach, even though to Wade, Logan’s subtly was as an dopey cow standing in a field of grass with how the scruffier man tended to keep by your side protectively; so much so that he might as well start growling at every person who ever laid eyes on you in general.
He’s a guard dog of a man in every sense of the word but how that came to be was from a whole lot of trauma and loosing people he’s ever cared about, so needless to say he won’t act like he’s interested in you at first, his heart had been wounded about as much as his body has and even had the mental scars to prove it.
He’s lived a long life of pain, fighting, suffering and heartache. He’s not going to falter so easily until you did something that made him feel safe enough to fall for you.
Once he has however it was impossible to go about the mission without him always wanting to stand guard by your side when he sees someone he doesn’t fully trust, always using his body as a shield for your own as Logan knew he could handle much more punishment then you could. So he’d rather avoid you being grievously hurt by any means possible.
He’d probably scold you if you ever were hurt as he was afraid that he might loose you, yet his hands were gentle but firm as they worked to patch your wound so it’d heal properly.
Wolverine: you’re an idiot you know.
You: wow I really feel the love over here.
Wolverine: *huffs* you expect me to kiss your ass when what you did was reckless and could’ve killed you? *his hands linger on your own even long after he’s done patching you up as though committing your warmth to memory*
Logan is a secret softy who wouldn’t push you away if you were to ever fall asleep on him, he’d grumble but that’s about it.
He’d even toss you his jacket if you were to ever complain about being too cold or leave it somewhere for you to take yourself, again he’d act like he didn’t want you to but he actually did with how he almost smiled upon seeing you looking comfortable in his jacket.
Logan is evidently more subtle about his crush on you then Wade is, or so he’d likes to think but Wade can messily tell he’s smitten when he sees how Logan’s eyes were quick to follow you in a crowded room with protectiveness and adoration.
Wade: aww has our dear friend taken the stick out of your ass and you fell in love?
Logan: *growls* fuck off Wade.
Wade: *holds his hands to his lips and gasps* oh my gosh! You have! Me too!
Logan: *looks at him* you what?!
Wade: yeah cats out of the bag, I like them too wolvie. you’re not the only one to find them cute, how close minded of you seriously.
They can’t share to save their lives, I’ve mentioned this before but they genuinely can’t even if they tried because one is them was bound to get jealous and try to take you away from the other.
Wade: do you really want to be near me grumpy all the time? Yawn fest much.
You: stop riling him up, you’re making Logan mad. Why are you like this?
Wade: maybe because you deserve to be in the company of someone who isn’t still unhealthily hung up on his previous red headed lover.
Logan: you shut your fucking mouth.
Wade: see! He’s not denying it!
You: I’m going to go now. *leaves*
Logan: you should make full time fuck head your job.
Wade: and you should make full time teenage brooder in a full grown man’s body who still isn’t over his first breakup yours.
The shenanigans that would occur between these two would be headache inducing to say the least.
The constant fights that would break out between them that you’d have to break up.
The bickering over who gets to act like a couple with you on missions. They might even play rock, paper, scissors multiple times behind your back.
Wade probably tried to trip Logan up in front of you once but it backfired when Logan made Wade trip up instead as he puts a hand on your lower back and guided you away from the poor Merc with a mouthful of dirt.

Spending Christmas at Hogwarts wasn’t all that bad. It was quite nice to wake up and not have the responsibility of acting civil with family that were never around or family that liked to cause problems. Theodore and most of his friends decided that they’d stay during Christmas break, the night before Christmas, the boys were all awake in the common room. Some of them were playing wizards chess and the others were just fooling around with the other boys.
As it neared midnight, Y/N and Pansy had made their way to the common room with the rest of their friends. Pansy sitting between Blaise and Draco and Y/N making herself comfortable next to Theo. Once he got a good look at her, he knew right away that she had just woken up, her eyes were red and sleepy, her body was warm against his and her eyes were watering with how much she had been yawning.
“Lay down bellissima, you look tired,” Theo whispered in her ear, she looked up at him with a loving gaze. She took his offer willingly, kissing his cheek in return as she laid her head down on his shoulder and her legs over his lap.
“Thank you, Theo,” She whispered back, a drowsy tone laced in her voice.
Within minutes, she had fallen back asleep, this time sleeping soundly in her boyfriend’s arms where she wished she was when she had fallen asleep earlier in the night. Crabbe decided that now was a great time to become obnoxiously loud for no reason at all. “Shut up you buffoon! If you wake her up I will not hesitate to kill you,” Theo threatened the boy, who immediately shut his mouth in fear.
“How dare anyone wake his bellissima! Oh it's blasphemous!” Pansy teased earning a deadly glare from the boy.
Shut up Pans,” Y/N mumbled sleepily, snuggling herself closer to her boyfriend’s warmth.
“Let’s go to bed before you fall asleep again,” Theo suggested before urging her up from the couch and leading her to his dorm.
“Why are the dungeons so cold?” She whined, her feet freezing on the concrete of the dungeons despite the thick socks on her feet.
“We are surrounded by concrete, amore mio. Of course it’s going to be cold.”
She rolled her eyes in a playful manner as she climbed into his bed. She was shivering at this point, her teeth chattering against each other. He climbed into bed with her, holding her body close to his. She slid her hands under his shirt to try and warm them, Theo wiggling away from them. “Salazar bellissima, your hands are so cold!” He shrieked in surprise.
“And you’re so warm, Teddy! I can’t help myself, you’re like my own heater,” She told him. The two of them shared a laugh before letting out yawns. Neither of them remember falling asleep, only remembering sleepy laughter and getting woken up by a drunk Blaise and Draco as the sun began to rise. “What time is it, you heathens?” She asked her boyfriend’s drunk roommates.
“Like 6,” Blaise slurred out before collapsing on his bed. She looked to her boyfriend who had messy hair and droopy eyes.
“Happy Christmas, Teddy,” She whispered to him.
“Happy Christmas, amore mio,” He whispered back before planting a kiss to her lips. He let out a hum as he pulled away, “Your lips are cold.”
“Maybe you could warm them for me?” She winked at him causing a chuckle from him and a collective groan from his roommates. In turn, Theo closed the curtains and took his girlfriend up on her suggestion.

Chapter 15: Mo leannan
Johnny isn’t stupid.
Or blind, for that matter.
Since the first time that Ghost went on that ‘date’, he’s noticed how different he’s been acting.
And weeks ago, he caught him and Gaz leaving base together in civvies. Civvies that neither of them would wear to go out for just a pint.
And either way, if they were going out for a pint, they’d have invited him and Price to go with.
No, this was different.
Personal.
And when they came back, and for the days after, he caught them sneaking glances at one another.
They’d exchange this sort of… look, that he couldn’t quite decipher.
But he could swear Ghost was smirking behind that balaclava of his…
And Gaz would bite his tongue before looking away.
It kept happening… The two of them disappearing for the night over the course of a few weeks, and coming back just in time for morning training.
Both of them way too glued to their phones…
His brain filled in the blanks as best as it could…
And it decided that they were in love, Ghost and Gaz.
That they were sneaking off base to get together in secret…
That they would text each other sweet nothings…
That they would exchanges glances to signify ‘I love you’s they couldn’t say aloud.
And, well, it was none of his business…
But it kind of stung a bit that he wasn’t trusted with it.
So, he tried probing.
Just a little.
Going up to Gaz during training and sort of nudging at him, poking him to see if he could get a reaction.
He made up some lie about having a date and asking Gaz if he needed help finding one too. The other lad said no with a decisive head shake.
Then, another day, he told him a story he heard of some sergeant, their age, who was caught in a relationship with a superior in their direct chain of command. And he didn’t miss the way Gaz’s eyes darted away before he muttered how stupid those soldiers were.
But Gaz didn’t fess up to anything…
And Soap wasn’t about to go up to Ghost and try the same…
So he froze his investigation for a moment.
And he picked it up right. now.
As he stands on the next aisle at the corner shop, getting a few snacks to stock up on, he hears Simon’s distinct voice… it seems to be coming from a phone.
Peeking over what does he see if not you, listening to a voice memo with the butt of your phone against your ear, thinking the volume is low enough not to bother anyone else.
And it is low, but Johnny has good hearing, and could recognize his L.T.’s voice anywhere.
The audio is long and you’ve been listening to it for a while and giggling at it occasionally as you put things into your basket that hung from the crook of your elbow.
He’s sure you’ve been listening to the audio for like 4 minutes now, just a constant flow of Simon’s voice into your ear, probably telling you some sort of story.
Now there was something Soap hadn’t considered.
An extra piece of the puzzle…
He recognizes your face from a couple months ago on Tinder, when all four of them matched with you and, jokingly, Johnny said to Price, Gaz and Ghost that he did all the work in getting you with Price…
There was no way Ghost and Gaz were meeting up with you, was there?
Could they just have a new friend? Or… could you be more?
Thinking of approaching you and asking you directly, Johnny only catches on too late that someone is beelining right for you.
A tall, lanky bloke, maybe 6ft1 or 6ft2, with a look like he’s ready to kill someone stops grabs you by the shoulder and spins you around.
Your eyes double in size and recognition. “Who do you think you are?” He asks you.
“What the fuck do you want, Ethan?” You complain as you tap around on your phone, probably pausing the voice memo and sticking your phone in your pocket.
“What do I want?” He asks you with a humorless laugh. “I want to find out why the fuck you’re suddenly having multiple other blokes over at the flat for the whole night.” He replies.
Johnny’s eyebrows raise as he watches the scene from around the corner into the aisle.
“Since when is that any of your business? And how do you even know? Have you been spying on me?” You ask him, taking a step back.
“Spying? No. But multiple times now I’ve gone to your flat to get the rest of my things and when I was in the elevator got surprised by seeing a bloke going in or out of there.” Ethan reveals.
“Oh, piss off, Ethan!” You retort.
“You’re not denying it.” He replies. “That’s it, innit? You decide to break up with me, saying how you “deserve better” and you’re “not happy” and now you’re going around with a bunch of other blokes?” He says and chuckles dryly again.
“Oh, you’re such a knobhead!” You insult him, your feelings slightly bruised. “How dare you, honestly?! I’m not-” You add.
“You selling yourself now, ‘s that it?” He asks mockingly. “There was an old one leaving in the morning a couple months ago… now there’s black one too… And I’m pretty sure I saw one with a mask the other day. Your clients’ too embarrassed to show their faces around you, huh?” He taunts you.
“I’m sure if I went back tomorrow I’d find another bloke slipping out the door, wouldn’t I?” He continues, his words venomous. “I saw three so far, but I’m sure there’s been more. How many, hm?”
“Oh, my, God… You’re disgusting!” You tell him as you take a step back again, your fingers tightening around the handle of your basket. “I’m not selling myself, not that I need to justify anything to you! Now get away from me!”
“What’s wrong, lovie? You’re embarrassed to say that the break-up was all just an excuse for you to go around and be a whore?” He continues taunting you.
Johnny ses the panic in your eyes and before he can think about it, he’s standing behind this ‘Ethan’, who seems to be your ex.
“They said ‘Get away from me’, I think that’s your cue, mate.” Johnny remarks with disdain dripping from his voice. Ethan turns and looks down to find Johnny.
Johnny’s a palm shorter than him, at only 5ft10, but he’s built like a brick shithouse. Big, beefy arms, broad shoulders, strong pecs… Not to mention he’s in full military garb, minus the vest and pistols.
His appearance is more than enough to strike a bit of fear in men taller than him… And Ethan is definitely intimidated.
“This doesn’t concern you. I’m talking to my partner.” Ethan tries defending himself.
“I don’t think so.” Johnny replies and stalks around him to your side. “Way I see it, they’re my partner.” He bluffs easily while snaking his arm around the small of your back.
He prays that you play along, silently hoping that you remember him, if nothing else, from Tinder.
“Yours?” Ethan sputters and glares at the two of you. You look up at Johnny like he’s your saving grace and lean closer to him, as a sign you recognize him and appreciate the help.
“Aye, mine.” Johnny replies with a curt nod. “This is that Ethan you’ve been telling me about, mo leannan?” [my love] Johnny asks you as his hand gently rubs your back.
Looking up at Johnny, you end up nodding in agreement. “Yeah…” You say softly, knowing that you can’t quite lie, because Ethan knows you well enough to pick up on it.
“I figured.” Johnny says as he looks at Ethan again, playing the part of the overprotective boyfriend pretty well.
“All these blokes ye’ve been ‘seeing’ out of their flat are my mates.” He explains and forces a crooked, not-quite-nice smile on his lips. “They were making sure they were alright, safe and sound, while I was overseas.” Johnny gestures to his outfit.
The realization that you are ‘dating’ a serviceman seems to extinguish whatever revolt was inside Ethan’s body immediately, like a candle that has been blown out.
Johnny lies like it’s second nature to him. His pulse and his breath are not wavering… And you can tell, because the way he has you pressed against him, you can hear both.
You finally realize what Simon told you months ago about “lying enough” while on the job and striving for honesty when he’s out of it… These soldiers are trained to lie like it’s nothing.
“And frankly, now that I saw ye accostin’em like this in a public place, I’m glad I didn’t skimp out on asking my mates to keep an eye on m’eudail.” [my darling] Johnny continues.
“Now, if you don’t mind. We have shopping to do before we go home. So how about ye piss off?” He concludes and smiles politely. “Or else this is gon’ get very ugly.” He adds and his eyebrows shoot up in a silent lunge of a challenge.
Ethan doesn’t seem to quite believe the lies, but at the same time he’s intimidated enough to not try and argue. So he grumbles under his breath, throws his hands up in an exasperated groan and turns on his heel to walk back out of the store.
Only when he’s fully out of sight and Johnny’s sure the coast is clear, does he unwrap his arm from around you. “Ye alright?” He asks you. “Sorry for the sudden manhandling, could tell ye needed a hand… and had to get ‘im away from ye somehow.” He adds, apologetically.
You nod and look away a bit sheepishly. “Yeah, I’m fine. Thanks.” You say softly as you fix your grip on your shopping basket.  “Just never thought something like this would happen.”
Johnny nods as he looks at you, noticing your face seems extremely stressed, set into a grimace that he does not like. You’re clearly shaken up.
“Hey, it’s alright. He’s gone.” He tells you calmly and taps you lightly on the shoulder. “Do ye need me to walk ye home?” He suggests.
Nodding softly, you force yourself to smile. “I think… I think that’s a good idea.” You end up saying.
Johnny nods as well. “Want me to call Simon and Kyle to meet ye there?” He asks.
Your head snaps up to look at him and your eyes widen. “You… you know?” You ask him in surprise, your breath catching in his throat.
“They’re not as discreet as they wish they were.” Johnny says, once more lying through his teeth.
He would never admit it took him the better part of two months to realize Simon and Kyle were ‘together’, and that it only clicked they’re together with you right now… the confirmation having come from your stalker-y ex.
“Oh…” You say sheepishly and clear your throat awkwardly.
“It’s alright, I promise.” He assures you. “I’m not judgin in any way. They’re my mates, ye ken?” He adds in a surprisingly gentle tone. “Just tryin’ to help.”
From the stories you’ve heard out of Kyle and Simon, and even Johnny’s own bio on Tinder, you’d never have guessed he was so tender… They always described him as an anger-prone, grown-up class clown… And yet here he is.
Gulping down a breath, you nod. “Yeah… Please.. And I can… I can tell them what happened when we’re home.”
“Alright.” Johnny replies. “Ye wanna finish yer shopping first or d’ye wanna just go?” He asks you carefully.
“I… I’ll just get what I’ve already got in the basket… I want to get out of here…” You add as you shuffle toward the one register counter of the small corner shop.
“Right behind ye.” Johnny remarks as he follows after you.

Your Power (1)
Pairing: Azriel x reader
Summary: Meeting Azriel and the inner circle was not in your plans by any means. But it happened and it was not your brightest moment.
Word count: 3.4k
Warnings: mentions of death
A/N: Had this idea for a while and wanted to get it out! I haven’t read Silver Flames soo anything that might seem out of place is totally on purpose. I apologize for any (all) grammatical error :)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
‘’YOU!’’
Azriel saw you the second you started walking their way. Your wide-eyed friend behind you trying to keep up with your drunk self. As always, he was on high alert even when his family told him to relax and enjoy the night. So, when he saw where you were headed, he quickly analyzed the situation and realized you weren’t a threat, even more as your friend tried to get you to stop.
He looked at Rhys, who in return raised an eyebrow at you and gave you his charming smile, and then back at you and decided to entertain the scene before him.
‘’You’ve forgotten about us, you know that right?! How can you continue to act all high and mighty while the rest of us are breaking down more and more each day!’’
You had one finger pointing at Rhys, your other hand bunched up in a fist on your side. They (Azriel, Rhys, Cassian, Feyre and Mor. The rest of the inner circle didn’t bother to go out that night and join them at Rita’s) all knew you were drunk but you were looking at them so fiercely, your voice never quivered, you definitely had all of their attention.
‘’Yes, you saved us but for what? To cast us aside when you’re done?’’ You looked to Feyre then. ‘’And you! I had such high hopes for you! A high lady yes, go females! But you’ve done the same!’’
Azriel saw how Rhys stopped smiling the second you turned to his mate, still recognizing that you were all bark and no bite but knowing how Feyre was going to save every single word you were saying in her brain and was going to overthink it later. Clearly, the amount of drinks you’ve had didn’t make you forget you were currently yelling at the High Lord and High Lady.
‘’Velaris needs you, the people need you! So do something about it!’’ With this, you finally dropped your hand, looked at them one last time before storming away. Your friend, once again, running after you not wanting to look at them after what you had done. She knew you were going to regret this outburst the next day.
And you did.
The second you woke up the next day, everything came rushing back and you wished you had a hangover so you wouldn’t have to think about it. A hangover sounded a thousand times better than thinking about how foolish and stupid you looked the night before.
Like, really? To go to the inner circle’s table, drunk, and yell at the high lord and lady? Surely, they were either going to forget about it or kill you. Or maybe they’d kill you and THEN forget about the incident. Sure, that’s what was going to happen.
But you quickly dismissed the idea when two days passed and nothing happened. Your life went back to normal and that was it. As if, the encounter you had with Velaris’ (and probably all of Prythian’s) most powerful fae was nothing. It probably was, you were just another common fae.
So, two days passed and you put it on the back of your mind focusing on your duties. Today, first thing you must do is drop off your nephew at school.
On Tuesday mornings, your sister-in-law wakes up before the sunrise to get ingredients for the shop meaning she couldn’t take your nephew to school. Therefore, you volunteered to do it. You loved your nephew and would do anything for him and his mother. Anything to make their lives easier. Sometimes your mom would join you but most times, it was just you and you were more than okay with that, savoring all the time you can with your nephew.
‘’Excellent! You’re gonna ace that test, kid’’. You sent him a big smile, squeezing the hand you were holding as you made your way to the school.
‘’I hope so. Mom said she’d let join her to the meadows if I did.’’ Of course he was interested in joining his mother. Like her, he loved nature and everything it provided them. He said he wanted to follow her footsteps and he was unknowingly also following his father's.
Your brother.
‘’Then you better get your boots ready, kid. I’m positive you’re gonna do great.’’
He gave you a big smile. He had your brother’s smile and you loved that about him. It made you feel like he was always there with you. It made missing him hurt less, even if years had already passed.
Both of you continue the walk to school. Talking about anything and everything. Like you, he was a yapper. But not everyone got to see that side of you. Many said you were quiet but that’s only because you don’t trust easily. Once you trust someone then they couldn’t get you to shut up. It was one of the many things that made you, you.
As you were nearing the school, your nephew stopped. ‘’What was that?’’
You looked at him confused ‘’What was what?’’
He looked around as if trying to locate whatever thing he saw. ‘’ I don’t know. It looked like a shadow’’. You looked at him even more confused. A shadow?
‘’Maybe it was a dragon’’ He looked at you unamused. ‘’Dragons don’t exist, Aunt Y/N’’.
‘’Maybe they should’’ you murmured under your breath. You shook your head and forgot about it as you looked at the school. You sighed. ‘’All right, kid. Go in there and do everything I wouldn’t do.’’
He gave you a look. ‘’You’re not supposed to encourage that’’. He was so mature for being so young.
You giggled and gave him a push towards school. ‘’Give ‘em hell! I’ll see you later!’’ You waved and sent him a kiss goodbye.
Once he was inside, you made your way to work.
Before you were even born, your family owned an apothecary shop. Your mother made sure you and your brother knew all about the family business as you were growing up. Your father passed away when you were a babe, having no recollection of him. Therefore, your mother ran the business until you or your brother were old enough to take care of it.
Growing up, you knew quickly that you wanted to do nothing with it. Nature was not your thing, you had great respect for it but it didn’t come naturally to you the way it did for your brother. He loved it and he loved spending time in the shop with your mother learning about it.
They had decided then that he was to stay with the shop once he was of age and finished his studies. You, on the other hand, gravitated to another side: music and arts. You loved anything that had to do with music: listening, playing, creating it; you name it. If there was music, you’d be there. A trait you’d inherited from your father, that’s what mother always said.
You had a job at a music shop and you loved it. It was everything you ever wanted and you were SO SURE that the man that owned it was going to promote you and one day maybe even give it to you. You wanted to take care of it, of the instruments, of the stories behind them. The shop had nights where the people would come and play together creating beautiful music. You wanted to play in all of them. Music was one of the things that made you extremely happy.
But then the war happened and your brother died.
And all of your plans to stay at the music shop died with him. You couldn’t stay there and let your family business die with him too. Your mother, nephew and sister-in-law were heart broken (as were you, of course. Heart broken doesn’t even come close) and you knew they were in no shape to run the shop.
So, there you went and stepped up to the plate. It was very hard at first to get the hang of it. You weren’t your brother, you didn’t have the same patience or love for it but eventually, you made it through. A year later, your sister-in-law decided to work there as well, saying that it made her feel closer to her husband.
You understand her completely, because sometimes you feel like he was there. It made you somewhat happy that you didn’t give up on the shop, on his dream even if you had to give up yours. Also, you have so much respect for her, not imagining how it must feel to love someone (romantically) so deeply, someone you swore was going to be with you for eternity and then having them gone so unexpectedly. Never to see them again.
You had your flings sure, but in all your centuries of being alive, you had never fallen in love the way your brother and sister-in-law were. Their love story was one of the most beautiful stories you’ve ever experienced and you hope to have one yourself one day. But until then, your day must go on.
‘’Good morning!’’ You said to Sabrina, one of the faes that also worked in the shop. She looked at you and smiled back.
‘’Morning, boss!’’ She was younger than you by a few centuries and you enjoyed having her in the shop. Somehow, she was always up to date with the town’s gossip so it was great to yap with her.
‘’How was your night, huh? That male still thinks you’re his mate?’’
She gave you a mischievous smile and a wink. ‘’Oh yeah, you should’ve see him. I got him to fix my bathroom sink. For free of course’’. Oh yeah, she scared you as well. She was a beautiful fae (and she knew it). With eyes and body that resembled siren’s, she could have any male she wanted and somehow tricked them into believing they were mates. Like a siren would indeed.
You thought it was both hilarious and dumb. You’ve heard tales of mating bonds, of how precious, powerful and extremely rare they were. And yet, somehow the males believed Sabrina when she would tell them that she was their mate.
‘’Males are dumb and will believe anything you say to them so long you give them attention’’ She would always say. She was right in one thing for sure, males are dumb.
‘’You’re evil’’. You said with a laugh and went inside the office of the shop.
Ugh, this work was so boring and tedious, you thought. How did your brother enjoy this? Shaking your head to clear your thoughts, you sighed and started working.
Until about 20 minutes later, Sabrina stormed inside the office. You looked up at her confused, she wasn’t one to barge in like that.
‘’Yes? What’s wrong?’’ She was wide eyed, mouth opening as if she’d seen a ghost. So, you told her just that. ‘’You look like you’ve seen a ghost’’.
‘’Shadows actually’’ She whispered. You looked at her even more confused. Shadows? Like the ones your nephew saw this morning?
‘’Shadows?’’
‘’Shadowsinger’’
‘’Shadowsinger? Sabrina, you’re not making any sense’’. Truly, she was scaring you. Shadowsinger, what the heck did she mean?
‘’He’s here!’’ She whispered yelled. ‘’The high lord’s Shadowsinger. He’s here and he’s looking for you’’. Her frightened eyes never steering from yours.
The high lord’s-what? But then, it all clicked in. Your eyes and mouth opened wide.
‘’Shit shit shit’’ you whispered yelled as well. Standing up from the chair and pacing in front of Sabrina.
‘’What did you do?!’’ the whisper-yells continued.
But you weren’t listening to her, you were replaying that Mother’s awful night in your mind. ‘’I’m gonna die, he’s gonna kill me’’. You whispered and Sabrina let out a squeak, hands quickly going to her mouth.
‘’No! You can’t! I can’t lose this job, Y/N! I’m still so young. Oh my Mother. Who’s gonna tell your mother? I can’t tell her! She scares me.’’ Sabrina continued her rambling, you listening to bits and pieces and further feeling fear run through your body.
‘’My sister-in-law is ready to take over okay? Just, make sure you hide my body and everything will be okay. You’ll make sure of that right?’’ In another scenario, this would be downright funny to you but right now, you actually believed that the male behind the door (who was probably listening to all of this) was actually going to murder you.
Sabrina shook her head repeatedly, motioning with her hands as well. ‘’Absolutely not. That is a lot of responsibility here. I’m technically a witness here! What if he kills me too?’’ After saying that, she froze, and you saw how pale her face was getting at the thought of dying at the hands of the Shadowsinger.
So once again, you had to step up and be the strong one. With that thought, you stilled.
Okay so you were drunk and decided to go to the most powerful high lord (and high lady) and told them off. Not your brightest decision, clearly, but everything you said that night was true. It was what all of the citizens of Velaris were thinking but no one had dared to say out loud, specially directly to the rulers of the city.
After the first attack the city suffered, Velaris was a slowly sinking ship and it seemed like the inner circle wasn’t paying attention to it or its citizens. But you were. Because you were also one of them, another citizen. But you were very observant and most importantly, you listened. You listened to their troubles, fears and never ending grief. You and your family were all testament to that. So when it seemed like time kept passing and no one was stepping up, you said something.
Drunk, mind you, but it was said. So, if one of the most powerful faes of all time was there to kill you, then you’d find a sense of pride amidst all of the fear inside you, and then die knowing you tried to help the people of Velaris.
Even if they would never know.
‘’Let him in’’ You stated after clearing your throat.
Sabrina’s eyes stayed wide open. ‘’Are you sure?’’
‘’He’s not going to want to kill me in front of you okay? I- just’’ You sighed, none of this was making sense. ‘’Just let him in, please’’.
But both of you knew that there was no other choice but to let him in. So with that, Sabrina nodded, looked at you as if it was the last time she ever would, and walked out to get the male.
You struggled to stay still, hands fidgeting, looking straight at the door and swallowing down fear. Any moment now, he was going to walk in and death-
Holy Cauldron, he was the most gorgeous male you’ve ever seen.
You quickly replayed that night in your mind, trying to remember if he looked as good as he looks now but truthfully, your vision was hazy and focused only on Rhysand and Feyre. You were honestly glad of that, that you were so focused on your goal and not exactly looking at him because if you did, you’d cower and retreat at the sight of his beauty.
He was one beautiful intimidating male, that’s for sure. And one who was here on a mission.
‘’Hello’’ You squeaked out. Quickly clearing your throat and recovering (trying to at least). ‘’Is there anything I can help you with?’’
The fact that this female, the same one who had the balls to go up to his high lord and tell him off without a second thought, is the very same female who is now standing before him and looking at him like she wanted to run away, had him fighting a smile.
He’s a male who takes his job very seriously, known for being closed off and stoic. So when Rhys sent him to find the female who had left an impression on all of them and whose words stroke a nerve, he did it without a second thought. It wasn’t that hard to find you, he was really good at his job and also, your family business was well known in Velaris. People knew who you were and even though not all of them knew the real you, they knew you were a kind, caring and hard-working fae.
After finding everything he could about you, he reported back to Rhysand and Feyre. You were born and raised in Velaris, good grades, even better behavior, worked at a music shop, were now the owner of the apothecary, mother stayed at home, no father, has a sister-in-law who works at the shop, has a nephew, brother dead, no husband (that he could find at least). You were just another common fae. A really pretty one, one of his shadows had whispered to him.
He agreed.
He could see you getting antsier the longer it took him to reply. So with an raised eyebrow, he extended his hand toward you that held a parchment you had failed to see when you were too busy ogling at him and wondering if the death was going to be a painful one.
You saw it now. You also saw his hands. The rumors were true then. They were filled with scars, you wondered for a second how they must feel to touch.
Shaking those thoughts out of your head, you cleared your throat and stepped closer to take the parchment. ‘’Um-okay, thank you’’.
Really? Your thanking him for what exactly? You grabbed it and looked at it for a second before staring back at him. Not wanting to lose the opportunity to stare at his eyes up close.
Those rumors were also true. His hazel eyes were absolutely beautiful. For Mother’s sake, did he have an ugly bone in his body?!, you thought.
‘’Open it’’ How can someone so beautiful and intimidating make you feel things with just their voice? Is this what his prisoners feel before they die?
You could listen to him talk all day, but his reputation tells you that he’s not one to talk much, not like you. Which is exactly what you’re going to start doing if you continue to stand in his presence.
You weren’t sure if he was going to stand for your yapping. ‘’Oh! Sure-okay.’’ Clearing your throat once again, you looked away from his eyes and finally focused on the piece of parchment.
Opening and reading it, you gasped and your eyes widened.
‘’Dear Y/N Y/L/N,
We are inviting you to a formal meeting that will be held in two days, morning time at The Library. Please confirm with Azriel of your attendance.
We eagerly await your presence.
Rhysand and Feyre
High Lord and High Lady of the Night’s Court. ‘’
A meeting? With you? For what? Do they all want to have a part in your death?
You really need to stop thinking that they’re going to kill you, they would have done it by now…right?
Your ongoing thoughts were definitely not helping with the nerves. Why the heck did they want to meet with you?
Reading it a third time, you saw the name Azriel and assumed this was the Shadowsinger standing right before you and patiently waiting for your response.
Right, response. You’re supposed to confirm your attendance. But, were you going to go? Were you really going to say no to your high lord and lady? You might’ve been brave when you were under the influence but any other day you weren’t exactly courageous or anything. But what was at stake here? Maybe this was your chance to apologize for that night. You weren’t going to apologize for saying the truth but perhaps how it was delivered. Okay sure, you can do that..right?
‘’Right-umm’’. You looked at the male before you, noticing the brightness of his hazel eyes and was that amusement? Was he..amused by all of this?
‘’I’ll be there’’. You decided. Fuck, you weren’t sure about this. But it was out there, Azriel heard it and was sure going to report it back.
Azriel nodded and took a step back from you.
You were glad of the extra breathing space. It was still early, how the heck were you supposed to focus during the rest of the day?
‘’I wouldn’t leave your body here, I’d hide it. Can’t leave evidence behind’’
Did he just make a joke? Of your death? He obviously heard you and Sabrina then. And the male had the audacity to find it funny!
So, the cold and ruthless Shadowsinger had humor then…a dark one it seems. Interesting.
Too shock to reply to that, you saw a hint of a smile on his face before he quickly hid it and left. Leaving you with a memory of his eyes and smile engraved in your brain.
What the fuck did you agree to?
Yooooooo happy to see that field of mistria are making you happy ^-^ i'd like to request reader helping march dye his hair ( lots of bickering and threatening to turn him pink instead ) but since ik you don't really like him and might not feel inspired here's another idea ( choose whichever one you feel most comfortable writing for ) how about flower picking with Celine :)
SUMMARY: when the saturday market can't come to town, you offer to help march dye his hair instead
COMMENTS: no pls wifey im very much joking w you i like march :(( hes just a bitch and im going to stab him. with a plastic sword. gently.
i dont have dividers so i am recycling my header ITS FINE DONT WORRY ABOUT IT
Tumblr media
“Ow, would you quit pulling my hair like that?” March groans, shooting you a dirty look over his shoulder, “For all that skill you claim to have you don’t act—”
“Oh will you hush?” you huff, gently tugging on a handful of March’s hair on purpose, “If you stopped squirming and whining, maybe it wouldn’t hurt so bad!”
He grumbles something under his breath that you don’t catch, but you’re far too busy sectioning off his surprisingly thick hair to prepare for the (tacky) bright red hair dye.
“Why the fuck is your hair so thick?” you comment, very much amused.
“Oh shut up.” March snaps, “If I could reach back there and grab a fistful of your hair to yank around I would, you little—”
You click your tongue, interrupting him once again. “Worry about yourself, March. Wouldn’t want my hand to slip and for you to end up with pink hair, now would we?”
He grumbles again, and you giggle.
It occurs to you that, if anyone were to overhear this conversation, they’d assume you and the blacksmith were a hair’s breath away from killing each other.
You pat yourself on the back for the winning pun you just made. Holt would be proud.
“Oi, I can feel your smugness from here. Whatever you’re thinking about, it’s making me sick.”
“I was just thinking about you.” you comment offhandedly, snatching up the bottle of dye flippantly, “You must be pretty awful if you make yourself sick.”
“Don’t say shit like that, it’s weird.” he crosses his arms in his chest and sinks into the chair, his back hunched as if trying to make himself smaller.
You wonder why he’s shriveling up now. Normally he'd return your scathing insult.
Instead of asking, you opt not to. You pop the cap off the dye bottle and start applying it to his scalp, massaging it into the roots. You try not to feel smug about the way March so obviously relaxes, shoulders dropping and head falling into your touch, his breathing shifting from frustrated to calm.
You also try not to feel warm about the way he looks right now, vulnerable and soft, you try not to think about how it’s just the two of you here, with his brother who knows where, and you try not to think about the very tempting open space of his forehead, which is finally not all wrinkly for once.
You don’t want to smooth over those wrinkles with your thumb at all. And you certainly do not want to kiss them after a hard day’s work.
Even when he’s sweaty.
Especially when he’s sweaty.
You cough loudly into your arm, trying your best not to squirm where you’re standing, lest you mess up March’s hair.
Fully expecting him to turn around and scold you for ruining the moment, you’re surprised when he doesn’t move.
“You’re such a weirdo.” he says, but his voice his soft and there’s no real bite to them.
The smile that threatens to burst out of you is barely held back by your desire to keep the solemn, dare you say affectionate atmosphere going.
“So are you.” you reply, and your voice is equally as soft.
March snorts, and if you didn’t know any better you’d say it was a genuine laugh.
Getting air into your lungs was proving to be one of the hardest things you’d had to do for a long time, which, considering the journey you’d been on, was shocking. The act of simply breathing should have come easily to you, but it didn’t. It couldn’t. Not as you saw the reflection of your own bloodied face in the knife that was held up, a clear threat polluting the air.
You knew you had probably been lucky to even make it as far as you had — born into a world full of death and chaos and infection, you were bound to meet your gruesome end some day, but you didn’t want to die.
For the first time in a long time, your chest ached for the breath you couldn’t seem to provide, the want, the need to live almost suffocating you on its own. You had someone now, someone who cared whether you survived or not, who felt like you deserved even a glimpse at a happy ending, even if he didn’t like to state those things out loud.
Resentment was growing in your stomach, filling you with the need to be sick. Why did you always have to listen to the words Joel didn’t say, rather than the ones he did say? If you had just listened, conserved your trust for those who actually earned it, you wouldn’t be in this situation.
When your hunting escapades had led you into a small horde of infected, you had just blindly put your faith in the aging couple who came to your aid, not thinking of what they might want for their troubles. You’d never had to escape without Joel’s help before, and you quickly discovered you weren’t all that good at it.
The two of them had dragged you back to their nearby settlement which they shared with a couple dozen others, all whilst you were kicking and screaming, trying to get away, your resolve fading each time they hit you to near unconsciousness. When they passed by a young man stood beside an older lady, you had called out to them, “Please, help me, please.”
“Gotta get something in return for the gear we wasted saving her ass,” the man had snickered to the two of them as glanced at the couple, just nodding at his words before turning back to their conversation.
You’d been knocked out when they approached a large community house, just getting a glimpse of the carpeted floor before the woman had struck her gun against the side of your head.
You had woken up in the middle of a chilled room, your arms straining with effort as you pushed yourself to sit up, seeing the woman holding a knife towards you. You couldn’t be sure how long it had been since they’d taken you, not with the way your stomach clenched with pain. The whole reason you’d been out there was to solve that, but you were sure that it had gotten worse.
“Listen, please,” your scratchy voice came out, much quieter than you had meant for it to be, “I—I can get you replacements for everything you used, but you gotta let me go.”
“We don’t gotta do anything, girl.” The lady snickered, as if even you saying such a thing was amusing. It made you feel small, powerless.
She got up, hearing her name being called, Cheryl, you noted, and sneered at you. Her skin was dull, and she looked vaguely ill, but that didn’t change anything about her threatening demeanour. At least one thing you’d taken from travelling with Joel was never underestimate your opponent, no matter how small, or ill, or kind they may appear to be.
Her hand grazed your face as she strode past, “Yeah,” she said quietly, like she was complimenting you, “You’ll do nicely. We’ll both enjoy you.”
You managed to avoid throwing up until she left the room, hearing a lock click into place. All that came up was bile, the clench of your stomach just becoming sharper afterwards. Your muscles felt weak, likely beginning to waste away with you having been inactive for a little while and injured, less energy wasted on muscle cells and more going into fighting off the infections that were likely trying to poison your blood.
Scanning the room, like Joel would’ve advised you to, you found nothing of much use to you. An old rickety chair, perhaps, but that would only help you if you could lift it, and you weren’t convinced you had the strength left within you, but you’d be damned if you didn’t at least try.
Something deep in your chest nagged at you, the longing for Joel, probably. He had saved you on countless occasions, and you could only hope that it had been long enough that he had finally gotten worried. It seemed likely, he really did worry a lot for a man who wasn’t meant to care, but then there was the factor of him finding you, managing to take down all the people in the settlement that might fight to protect each other and—
You took a deep breath, finally feeling your lungs expand and take in some oxygen, and pulled yourself from the ground, keeping the bile that threatened to rise down as the nausea hit you.
The chair was lighter than you expected it to be, the insides of the wooden frame likely rotten away, and you managed to pull it towards the door, waiting beside it with shallow breaths. When the lock finally began to click open, you raised the lightweight chair as high as you could, and smacked it down against the person who entered the room. Splinters flew from it as it impacted, and you heard the clatter of metal as a tray they carried hit the ground with them.
Food, maybe, to keep you alive for… whatever it was that they had planned for you, you reasoned, but didn’t look to check. Instead, you grabbed a mostly-intact leg of the chair that caused splinters to dig into your palm, and stepped over the body of the man who had taken you, exiting quickly.
Footsteps hurried you, and you ducked behind a booth as they approached the room you were being kept in. There were lanterns lit all around the room, giving it a warm look that greatly contrasted the cold air and feel it had.
“Shit!” Cheryl cursed, and you saw her bend down to check on the man from over the top of your booth. A radio crackled though the air, before, “Lewis is down, the girl’s out. Anybody got eyes?”
Your fingers shook and you gripped on to the booth to stop them, hearing the distorted reply of whoever was on the other end of the radio, “She ain’t got out, yet, she’s gotta be in there with you. You need backup?”
“No,” Cheryl replied, her cold voice sending shivers down your back, “I’ve got her.”
The drag of Lewis’ clothes against the floor made you peak your head up, seeing her drag him into the room, before she exited and locked him inside. You ducked back down, heart hammering. You couldn’t escape from them in an open forest — how would you get out of a locked down building?
“Come on out, kid. It’s okay, you just gotta start behaving yourself.” She called, her slow footsteps failing to mask the sound of her unsheathing her knife. It wasn’t okay, it was very far from okay, you would argue, and you could feel that crushing fear of death pushing down on your shoulders, your chest constricting once again.
You tried to reassure yourself — you had faced countless amounts of infected and come out on the other side, what was one woman with very bad intentions? But it didn’t make you feel better, not when it was another human, who could feel exactly what you felt.
Her footsteps approached, and you leaped from where you were in the booth, trying to run as far away from her as fast as you could, but she caught up to you with surprising ease, your muscles clearly weaker than initially thought, and she grasped the back of your shirt, pulling you to a stop as you fell to the ground.
“Get the fuck off of me!” You cried out as she knelt down, one knee beside you and another pressing against your stomach, knife approaching your throat as soon as she settled you firmly against the carpet. It was red.
“You could’ve made this real easy for all of us,” she muttered your name, and you froze, having forgotten the way you’d yelled it out to them in the midst of the battle. “Be a good girl, now.”
You heard gunfire outside, and when her face glanced toward the guarded front door, you twisted underneath her, pushing yourself away to find enough room to kick the knee against the floor out from under her. She fell, her chin hitting the ground with a satisfying crack, and when she cried out, anger overcame you.
“You were gonna hurt me,” You said aloud, almost as if it was a realisation, rather than just fact. Your eyes hardened, gaze going red as you snatched the knife from her weakened grip. She reached out to try and snatch it back, but only got the drops of your blood that fell from the blade as you held onto it, twisting it until you finally held the handle. “Why— why were you going to hurt me?”
Her response didn’t filter through your ears, and the rage at how easily she and Lewis were going to do it pulsed, making your vision go blurry. When she sat up, tumbling forward to take you down again, you swiped her own knife until you felt the drag of something resisting it, and then you pulled harder, feeling something warm gushing down your hand.
Cheryl’s breath stuttered slightly, her hands rising to her chest as she groaned in pain. You looked down to your hands, where they were coated in a red that was darker than the carpet below them, and you were so lost that you didn’t notice her hand coming below yours, hitting it so hard that the knife went flying to the other end of the carpet.
Like a reflex, your fists came down on her face, feeling the shift of bones beneath your knuckles as they shattered upon contact. You didn’t stop, too wrapped up in the fact that you didn’t want to die, that she was going to hurt you, to kill you when she was done, she was going to tear you apart and throw away the pieces, she was going to take away what little humanity had left, she—
Arms pulled you away from the body beneath you, arms much stronger than your own, and you screamed, yelled out with your broken voice, “I’ll kill you, I’ll fucking kill you, get off of me! I’ll kill you!”
The person shushed you, only holding tighter as you thrashed, turning away from Cheryl where she… wasn’t breathing. You stopped, tense muscles in your body going slack and burning as you stared at her, at her body, lifeless and covered in blood.
“Kid, it’s okay, it’s okay, I’ve got you.” said the person holding you— said Joel. Your hands dropped from where you had scratched his forearm, his arm covered in blood — though whether it was his, or Cheryl’s, or yours, you didn’t know.
He loosened his grip on you, eyebrows creased in concern as your entire body slipped when he moved his arms away, as if you couldn’t even hold yourself up.
“No… she— it wasn’t, I didn’t—” you trailed off, unsure of what to say, the words dead on your tongue, because you didn’t what? Didn't mean to kill her?
Joel followed your blank eyes to the body he’d pulled you from, and he turned your head towards him quickly, eyes hard. “No.” He said, and at your somewhat confused expression, he continued, “You didn’t do anything wrong.”
“Joel, I—”
“No,” he repeated, and pulled your head towards him, keeping you looking away from Cheryl as a gunshot rang through the room, echoing in your ears so loudly you couldn’t hear Joel at first, as he held up the smoking gun for you to see, “—killed her, see? I killed her.”
“They were going… they wanted to—” You choked on the words, feeling that bile come creeping back up your throat, and you lurched away from Joel as it came out, feeling him pull your hair back from your face.
Something in his eyes settled, however, at the choice of word you’d used — they. So this body wasn’t the only one in here? His question was answered by a bang at a door on the other side, the way your entire body flinched at the sound.
The door splintered, and a battered man came tumbling out, hurrying over to where he could see people crowded. His face went red, and he began to shout, “You fucking bitch—!”
Joel shot one between the eyes, and the man crumpled before he could get anything else out. He turned back to you, to where you were hunched in on yourself. He shoved his gun back in its rightful place, and held your cheeks between his hands, gunpowder residue transferring to your skin.
“Do you hear me?” His muted voice said, and you looked up to his face with a confused shake of your head, “It was you or them, and the only answer is you.”
“But, Joel,” you were interrupted, and he wiped the underneath of your eye of a tear that you hadn’t even known had fallen.
“No. You listen to me, remember?” Joel affirmed, and you nodded, the tears falling more now that you’d acknowledged them, your hands shaking as you tried to look past Joel, but he just pulled your face back to him. “I’ve got you, kid. Keep your eyes on me.”
You turned your face into his neck as you all but threw yourself into his arms, and they wrapped around you like they’d been waiting to do so. You missed his pained expression at the words, and the way heartache burrowed in his chest as he stood the two of you up, his knees clicking.
He swept you up, as if you were the smallest and lightest thing he’d carried in years, and he carried you away, your eyes staying glued to him as the two of you left behind the carnage he’d caused in looking for you.
summary: you’re happy with your lot as nanny to the koopalings... until a chance encounter with the king sets your life off in a very different trajectory.
Few people like their jobs, but you’re lucky enough to count yourself among them.
Sure, there were places to work that weren’t as covered in lava. A little less rowdy and loud. But you’ve lived in the Dark Lands for so long they’re home now, and how you couldn’t imagine a day without needing to dodge a spit of errant fire from the ground.
Well, maybe you could. But you know now how to listen out for the telltale crack before an eruption, so you’re much less flammable than you used to be!
Maybe things would have been different if you didn’t get the job so… normally. Several years ago you saw a “help wanted” flyer advertising for a royal nanny, and, with Bowser’s reputation, people weren’t exactly chomping at the bit to apply. But you’d always had a way with kids so decided to give it a shot. This has been back when it was only Ludwig and Morton, and they’d only been young - not the eight terrors nowadays. It wasn’t so much a trial shift as a “try not to let them kill you” challenge, and when they didn’t you were hired immediately by a snivelling little man you’d later come to know as Kamek.
You never grew to like Kamek, exactly, but you loved the Koopalings. Your original duties hadn’t been too taxing. Mostly just some gentle discipline and education, as well as keeping them from maiming each other. They were rowdy kids. But they quickly grew fond of you and you of them, and it wasn’t long before the kids were acting like you’d always been there: a trusted adult who they could rely on to look after them.
Nowadays you can truly say that they’re sweet kids. Boisterous but with a soft side buried beneath - a lot like their father in that way.
Ah, Bowser. You can still remember the first time you met him. All those years ago. You’d been employed for a couple of weeks, and were hard at work cleaning up the playroom when a pitter-pattering of tiny feet let you know someone was approaching. And when Morton entered the room in tears and ran to hug you, instinct kicked in and you held the little tyke close. Ludwig had been going through a phase of teasing him about his star-shaped birthmark and Morton hadn’t been taking it very well. It led to fisticuffs almost certainly and tears more often than not.
“Oh honey, don’t listen to him,” you hummed, rubbing his shell soothingly. From his sniffles you knew you’d hit the nail on the head, “I like your star.”
Morton had pulled back enough to study your face, try and scrutinise it in search of a lie, but when he found you were sincere managed a wobbly smile.
Then Bowser threw the door off of its hinges.
“Morton-?!”
His eyes were wide, confused, a little angry as he took you in. As if trying to work out why his child would be in the arms of a stranger. Then his face softened as he put the pieces together in his mind.
“Uh, new nanny Kamek hired, right?”
“Yes sire,” you replied, a bit dazed from the splintered wood you just had to dodge, and not wanting to untangle from the distressed child to bow so instead choosing to nod deeply. Bowser looked at how Morton clung to you, his little muzzle buried into your clothes for comfort.
“Morton, you okay, little buddy?” he asked, more gently than the rumours about him led you to believe was possible. Morton nodded but stayed in your arms. Bowser let out a sigh.
“Okay, well… good.” He looked up at you. “You uh, keep doing that.”
So you did.
It was strange, seeing such a gentle side to Bowser from the offset. You’d heard he was a fearsome and fierce ruler - and, well, he was - but he also was a devoted father, too. And as more Koopalings came along to pad out the pack you found yourself growing happier and happier with your work. You were paid very handsomely, you were safe in the castle, and the children loved you so much that you were practically part of the family.
And… Bowser. Well, so what if your heart had a funny fluttering feeling inside it when you saw him sit down to have a tea party with his kids? That didn’t have to mean anything. Anyone would feel that way about a strong, handsome king. Besides you were certain he saw you as no more than a friendly face, a trusted confidant. Someone who’d been a rock by his side for years. He didn’t need to worry about his children when you were there to corral them.
You were content with your lot in life.
And maybe things would have stayed that way if you hadn't happened upon Bowser after that fight.
Tumblr media
It’s been a normal day. After a rowdy lesson which turned into less violence than you thankfully expected, the kids had headed off to do some kart racing. Now you’re just off to tidy the nursery - though perhaps the children are a little too old to call it that, it’s mostly referred to as the “games room” where their more expensive electronics are kept - before retiring to your quarters for the night. You expect to just have to clean up a few abandoned snack wrappers… so the breath is knocked out of you when you see the trail of blood.
Immediately you assume it’s one of the kids. Nanny instincts kicking in you take off down the corridor, round the corner, and -
See Bowser there. In the games room. He’s digging through one of your cabinets, muttering to himself. In fact he doesn’t even notice you approach him until your foot catches an abandoned controller; it goes skittering across the room and bumps against the wall, making the king jump and spin around to face you. There’s a nasty gash along his arm and he winces when you notice it - you’re not sure if it’s because of the pain or the fact you’ve caught him with your first aid kit in hand, trying to bandage himself up.
“Are you all right, sir?” you ask, quickly gathering your wits. Bowser huffs.
“Yeah, just got beat up is all.”
You frown. You’ve helped raise his children for long enough to know when he’s hiding something.
“It was that plumber again, wasn’t it?”
Another wince, but this time followed by a nod. You hold out your hand and motion towards the kit he’s clutching like a lifeline.
“Here, give that to me. I’ll clean you up.”
You’re using your ‘no-nonsense’ voice and it works a charm. Bowser sighs and complies easily, heading to the nearest beanbag and planting himself down on it. He mutters a little in irritation as the spikes on his shell pierce the fabric and a few beans spill onto the floor.
“Don’t worry about that. I’m used to patching those up for the kids,” you state, kneeling in front of him and opening the first aid box. Bowser watches you in intrigued silence as you clean the wound thoroughly before beginning to bandage it.
“Hey, can I ask you a question?”
His voice is gentle enough to make you stop what you’re doing and look up. You’re not sure you’ve ever really noticed the colour of his eyes before. They’re a sort of dark red-brown. It’s nice.
“Anything you want, my king.”
“Look, just ‘Bowser’ is fine, okay? We’ve been friends long enough.”
His admission of this surprises you, and sends a warm feeling through you that you don’t have time to dissect.
“Alright… Bowser. Fire away.”
“Do I scare you?”
Carefully you tie off the bandage before sitting back on your haunches to face him.
“Not really.” He seems surprised. “Oh, uh, sorry - do you want to scare me?”
“Well, no, I guess not. Just I’m kinda scary looking, y’know? The spikes and the fire and all that. That doesn’t freak you out?”
To add to this he begins to summon flames in the back of his throat. They dance against his teeth. He’d certainly seem menacing if you didn’t know better.
“Nope, not at all. I’ve looked after most of your children through their terrible twos, being three-nagers, and you would not believe how well equipped I am to deal with fire. If any of the kids even try that with me they get a time out. Don’t make me give you one, too.”
You say that last part as a joke, but don’t miss the way Bowser’s jaw visibly clenches at the idea. You’re not sure if it’s because he’s annoyed or… for some other reason. Flustered a little you decide to try and move on.
“There, all done. If you get hurt again just come straight to me, I don’t mind patching you up.”
You go to put the kit back, assuming that will be the end of things.
“Uh, thanks for doing all this. You’re… you’re nice to talk to.”
His voice is small, like he’s telling you a secret. It elicits a genuine smile from you as you turn around to face him. He’s looking at his claws, a sure sign of shyness - you know because Junior does it too.
“You’re nice to talk to too, Bowser.”
The way his face lights up makes your heart begin to race.
Hmm. You might be in trouble here.
lmk if you’d like to be tagged for future parts!
Okay soo I had an idea for a request for reader x Chad meeks-Martin. What about where the reader is with Sam, Tara and Chad when they're in the shrine at the end of the film. She'd gone off with Sam when Tara and Chad were off alone, which gave her mixed feelings because 1: she and Chad we're together and she could see there was maybe something there between the two or 2: She had feelings for Chad for the longest time, but could see the looks always shared between Tara and the boy so they'd stepped back to let it be Tara, after all they felt the girl deserved it with everything they went through. Sam could tell them that they need to stick together so they go to find them and see them all making out as we saw in the movie and they feel their heart hurt. When the two pulled away they looked at the two and could see how the reader felt. and it would be all like.. "Hey guys... um. Sam thinks it's best we all stay together, it should be time soon.' And they would see Tara get stabbed and eyes widen and she'd try to get them or whatever and ends up sacrificing herself for them? you can add stuff but maybe some like.. after fluff somewhere with Chad realizing the feelings for her and yeah! thank youuu!
tysm for the request! I hope I understood everything correctly and that you enjoy! This reminds me of the song “All for us” by the Labrinth + Zendaya :O
Doin’ It All For Love — Chad Meeks ★
Tumblr media
PAIRING: Chad Meeks x gn!reader
SUMMARY: You like Chad but don’t think he feels the same. In an act of bravery you decide to sacrifice yourself for Chad and Tara. Chad ends up confessing his feelings for you after everything that happened!
WARNINGS: mentions of stabbing but nothing graphic
Tumblr media
This was it, the night you were all going to kill Ghostface and hopefully end this for good. You stepped into the entrance of the ‘Killbox’ as Kirby called it. Kirby and Sam walking in before you and Tara and Chad behind you. Kirby explained the plan and Sam looked tense. Everyone decided to split up and look around because we had some time to kill.
You went with Sam while she tried to contact Mindy leaving Tara and Chad with each other. You were looking at all the displays with pictures and weapons. This whole thing was nerve wracking but all you could seem to think of right now was Tara and Chad. As selfish as it seemed in a moment like this, but you couldn’t help it. You liked him, like really really liked him. However, you didn’t think your feelings were reciprocated.
You knew Tara liked Chad and you were positive Chad liked Tara. You saw the small smiles they’d give each other from across the room, the eye contact they always made, Tara’s hand always brushing his slightly. It hurt you, but you knew she deserved this. She deserved all the happiness and love she could ever want. After everything she’s been through there was no way you were going to take the guy she liked.
Snapping you out of your thoughts you felt Sam’s hand on your shoulder. She seemed panicked. “Sam? Are you okay?” She shook her head, “I need you to listen to me. Bailey called we need to get out of here right now. Can you go find Chad and Tara for me please? We need to stick together.” Your eyes slightly widened, she was worrying you. With a quick ‘of course’ you quickly went over to the direction you saw them go when you first arrived. Opening a door your heart ached.
Chad and Tara were kissing and they looked really happy. As much as you didn’t want to interrupt them you had to for Sam, of course. You cleared your throat and the pair pulled away from each other. Chad quickly noticed the hurt in your eyes and Tara noticed your uncomfortableness. “Umm..” you started looking away from them and instead looking at the ground. “Sam says we should stick together, I think something might be wrong.” You looked back at them and they both nodded.
As you were about to leave Tara got stabbed in the back. Ghostface threw her on the ground and you ran to her while Chad was trying to fight back. You panicked you didn’t know what to do or if you should do anything. You only knew one thing and that was that you weren’t about to let that piece of shit hurt your friends in front of your face. “MOVE!” You yell to Chad and run in front of him. Ghostface plunges his knife in you and you scream. Chad tried to go in front of you but you wouldn’t let him. “CHAD TAKE TARA AND GO!” “I’M NOT JUST GOING TO LEAVE YOU!” He yells back choking on his own words. “GO! I’ll be fine!” Chad hesitantly nods, gets Tara and runs to find Sam. He was going to come back for you. He thought to himself, praying that you’d be alive when he returned.
As they were leaving Ghostface stabbed you three more times. You fell to the ground and Ghostface walked off not focusing his time on you. His Goal was Sam and Tara. You dragged yourself to sit back against a wall while holding your stomach and tears pouring from your eyes. All you cared about was that they made it out and you hoped to god they could kill that son of a bitch. Suddenly your vision became dark as you leaned your head against the pillar right next to you.
.・゜゜・MINI TIME SKIP!!・゜゜・.
You woke up being wheeled out of the building in a stretcher. They put you in the back of an ambulance before returning to probably go help the others. You couldn’t believe you were actually alive. Your eyes just got adjusted to the brightness outside when you heard “GUYS! Guys she’s awake!” Mindy yelled. You hummed and then remembered and tried to process everything that happened. Tara, Sam, and Chad rushed to you. “Holy shit! Oh my god are you okay?” Tara asked while squeezing your hand. “Eh, I’ve been better. Are you guys okay?” “Oh you know just a few stabs here and there” Chad said making you let out a soft laugh.
“Thank you. You saved my life.” Tara said with a genuine smile on her face. “Anytime.” You smiled back at her and then remembered there were masked killers “Wait, who were the killers? Did we get them?” you asked. “Ethan, Bailey, and Quinn and yeah we killed the mother fuckers.” Sam responded making your eyes go wide and your mouth hang open in shock because of who the killers were. “Wh-“ you started to say but Tara and Sam were asked for questioning and Mindy muttered a ‘I’ll tell you later’ before looking at her brother and walking off.
“I uh actually need to talk to you” Chad said with nervousness in his voice. “Yeah? About what?” You were confused, not knowing where he was going with this. “Back there, when you walked in on me and Tara-“ Your mouth made an O shape. “I just wanted to know if you were okay. I mean I know you’re not like physically and probably not mentally either considering what just happened, and this seems like the worst time to bring this up but were you okay? Like with that, did it make you uncomfortable?” He was cute when he rambled.
You thought this was it, you might as well confess now. If he rejects you, you can just say it was the drugs making you act like this. After a few moments of silence you suddenly blurted out “I like you.” “What?” Chad was looking down but looked up at you with genuine confusion. “I like you” you repeated, “like more than just a friend.” “Why didn’t you tell me?” You tried your best to shrug with the condition you were in, “I thought you and Tara had a thing going on, which I’m assuming is still true?” You meant it to be a statement but it came out as more of a question.
“Eh, we talked we think it’s better if we just stay friends. After all of this, she says she’s not ready for a relationship. And she actually said she thought you might’ve had a crush on me” he told you with a tiny smirk. “Oh reaalllyy?” you asked smiling a little. “Really,” he starts and then pauses a little before continuing. The silence making you nervous. “And it just so happens I like you too.” You thought you were going to pass out again. “What- did they put you on drugs too?” you asked half genuine half joking.
“Nono I mean it” he had a goofy smile on his face to which you returned with your own wider one. “Especially after what you did to help me and Tara, I think that really made me realize how special you were to me. I was really scared I was going to loose you.” He was closer to you than before and you slowly moved your hand to find his. You put your hand in his and smiled. “It took you long enough.” He laughed and leaned in and you happily mimicked his movement. It was a sweet and loving kiss. After you both pulled away you both had the biggest smiles plastered on your faces.
“HEY LOVE BIRDS!” Mindy shouted at you. “Time to goooo!!!” Chad playfully rolled his eyes and you giggled. “Shall we?” He asked in a very poor posh accent, you laughed and copied it with a ‘We shall.’ You were so glad this ended up in a happy ending.
ENDDD!! Sorry it took a while to write I was busy with school! I thought this turned out really sweet :)
(Part 1) (Part 2) (Part 3) (Part 4) (Part 5) (Part 6) (Part 7)
The villain can see the hero, just about, crossing the dingy basement car park. The lacklustre lighting throws them into silhouette, only recognisable by the stupid gait they always carry themself with, undeservedly confident.
“[Villain],” they open, their voice raised slightly to echo across the empty space, but the villain doesn’t give them the time of day. They shove their arm into the bag at their side, yanking their trusty pistol from the side pocket.
“Unlike you to wanna meet here. Figured you’d be scared of me keying your car.”
“I am, but my car’s not here.” They’re almost in front of the villain, and the barrel raises slightly to follow them. “I just wanted to talk.”
“You wanted to talk,” they echo disbelievingly. “What the hell would you want to talk about that doesn’t end with us both trying to kill each other?”
“Put the gun down, [Villain], jeez.” The hero finally pauses in front of them, letting out the deepest sigh the villain has ever heard from them. There’s a moment of deliberation, but they lower it slightly, just enough so that it’s not pointing in their nemesis’s face. “I would understand if you hated this idea and tried to kill me afterwards, though.”
The villain raises their eyebrows. “You’re coming to me with an idea that will make me want to kill you? Do tell.”
“It’s… it’s my parents.” The hero avoids the villain’s gaze to ignore the incredulous expression blatantly adorning their face. “I was stupid. They keep asking if I’m dating anyone, and it’s been incessant, and in the heat of the moment I just said I was. They know all the heroes—they’d know immediately I’m not actually with any of them.”
“Please don’t say what I think you’re going to say.”
“I just need you to work with me for one evening. Come to my parents house, say hi, have a civil dinner with them. We can get back to kicking each other’s asses next day.”
The villain crosses their arms, careful not to accidentally pull the trigger on themself. “And I would do this for you because…?”
“Ach, I don’t know,” the hero says quietly as if they hadn’t considered this. “I guess free food? I’ve seen you in the back of the restaurant before, and–”
“Okay!” the villain cuts across them suddenly. “Okay, stop talking. I will come, only for the free food, and I will go straight back to trying to kill you the moment it’s over, alright?”
The hero practically beams. “That’s perfect. You do have to be civil to my parents if you want the food, though. They’ll just kick us out if you’re an ass.”
The villain tsks in annoyance. “Typical.”
-
“Okay, if they ask what you do, you’re just as normal as any civilian.”
The two of them are sitting in the hero’s car on the driveway. The villain hadn’t been particularly set on the idea of voluntarily getting into a hero’s car, but they’d insisted. Their parents would doubt their relationship if they didn’t turn up in the same car, apparently.
“Did you bring your gun?”
The villain shifts so that the back of their jacket sits more smoothly over the top of their jeans. “No.”
“[Villain].”
“Okay, fine, jeez.” They pull their pistol out with an annoyed tut, shoving it into the glovebox. “Happy now?”
“Yeah. I don’t need you trying to shoot up my parents, thanks.” The hero pushes their door open, stepping into the cool evening air. “Come on then.”
The villain mirrors them on the other side as they go to the front door. The house is nice, very nice, much nicer than they could afford. A nice house must have some nice possessions. Maybe they can get something out of this trip.
They join the hero as they ring the doorbell. “Now, please remember to be nice.” They turn to give the villain a smile. “My parents are getting on now, and the last thing they need is a heart attack caused by you.”
“Sure thing.” The villain smirks a little evilly, and the hero’s smile decidedly turns less confident.
Both of them drop the act as the door swings open. “[Hero]!” the man at the door greets cheerfully, wrapping the hero in a tight hug before giving the villain a once over. “Oh, you must be the one they’ve been talking about. Please, come inside, we’re so excited to meet you.”
The villain flashes the hero a grin as they step inside, and they get an expression that screams regret in return.
The dinner is impossible to lie about—it’s delicious. The hero’s mother’s entrance is accompanied by a tray of potatoes as she lays it amongst the other vegetables for the roast she’s made. The three of them make light small talk until she sits down, and then it’s into the deep water.
The two of them probe as subtly as they can about the villain’s life. The hero pushes them in the right direction by giving them a light kick here and there, which the villain delightedly rewards them for by saying completely the wrong thing, much to the hero’s dismay. Their parents share surprised glances every-so-often, but they do a grand job of feigning neutral interest.
Eventually the villain decides they need their payment for this evening. “Excuse me, everyone,” they say innocently as they get to their feet. “I just need to use the bathroom.”
The hero’s father points them down the hall, and with a grateful smile they’re out of the dining room and off into the house.
Top five reasons Good Cop Bad Cop are the best characters?
Oh man! You knew what would happen when you asked that. Here goes!
(lots of text below)
1. Concept
GCBC’s concept has always stood out to me. Even before I was obsessed, I looked at his design, and I thought it was cool! The combination of the Good Cop Bad Cop trope and a dual-sided minifig head is really smart! Those ideas combine so well, and without that idea as a basis, GCBC wouldn’t be GCBC.
There’s also subversion of how split-personality characters tend to act! Obviously, Good Cop is the good one and Bad Cop is the bad one, but its more complicated than that. Good Cop is still willing to melt Emmet, and he still works for Business and participates in the policework, he is still a villain despite being nice! And Bad Cop, while it isn’t quite as noticeable earlier in the movie, 100% redeems himself in the end! (And I think he still has moments where he isn’t just full-on evil earlier on, I’ll get back to that later.)
A peculiar fact I know is that they started GCBC’s design with the Good Cop Bad Cop trope, NOT the dual-sided minifig head. I don’t know if it’s just me, but I feel like the natural progression would be starting with the LEGO feature and turning that into a character. But they didn’t do that. Originally, he was just going to flip glasses up and down from his hat.
Tumblr media
The highlight of GCBC’s design is obviously their head. I love their outfit (maybe not so much when I’m rendering something), but there’s not that much to do about a police outfit. I only wish it was actually purple. BUT I’m getting distracted. I was trying to mention how GCBC’s faces contrast so much! Good Cop’s large glasses highlight his eyes, and his eyes show how nice he is, they’re round and soft and cute! To contrast Bad Cop’s sunglasses block out his eyes, and all you get to see is his big ol’ mouth. He usually has his teeth shown, with each tooth lined out. You don’t see outlined teeth on Good Cop. Outlined teeth are something I always got told not to do in art, because it makes characters scary. But of course, Bad Cop is supposed to be scary! So he has that trait! And I love to see it!
I’ve always been interested in character design. It’s not something I myself can do very well, but I love to see interesting characters. And GCBC’s design and concept are exactly that! Interesting! (And this whole thing is about GCBC, but I think a lot of the other characters also have really good designs.) What I especially love is how all TLM designs are interesting despite the limitations of being a LEGO. In fact, I think they’d be worse if they weren’t LEGO! The artists had to put a lot of effort into making these designs look good, even as minifigs. I think that’s awesome.
2. Story
Ough! It already hurts and I haven’t even typed yet! But of course, GCBC’s story is important. GCBC is given the most tragic story in TLM. They are forced to keep working for a corrupt boss, and they are the only ones (outside of robots) who are aware of the corruptness. But that is exactly why they have to just go with it, they know Business has the power to kill them and everyone they care about if they went against him.
And even then, even when they’re working for him the best they can, knowing far more than anyone else and having to act normal about it, well you know what happens. GCBC loses everyone. They obviously do not have many people that support them to begin with, but Bad Cop loses his parents and Good Cop! And that leaves him with one person, Business.
It’s implied Business has been so terrible to GCBC for a while. Good Cop is so scared of Business that he avoids the guy as much as possible, to the point Business needed to specifically ask for Good Cop, and even then he would keep switching out. And GCBC’s helmet is mostly for protection from Lord Business, not master builders. But what can GCBC do about their situation? Nothing! Business is the damn president, they can’t do anything about it. And they can’t join the master builders, they’re murderers, they can’t just join the good guys! GCBC is a victim of such unfortunate circumstance.
Isn’t that crazy!? They just add the most horrific abuse on GCBC to this movie!? It’s a movie about LEGO! And you can even see how this affected Bad Cop, if you look closely, and have worms eating your brain! But again, I want to get to that later!
3. Personalities
IT’S LATER! Obviously GCBC is two guys in one. I love that. I love it so much that it feels wrong when people seperate them! I’m getting more and more into my own interpretation and outside of what is actually shown/implied in the movie, but I think GCBC just wouldn’t work seperated. I feel like Good Cop and Bad Cop exaggerate each other’s personalities. Good Cop is really nice, which leaves Bad Cop to have to be the mean one. No matter how nice Bad Cop might try to be, he isn’t going to be able to match Good Cop. And their names are no help anyhow.
If they were to be seperate people, Bad Cop wouldn’t be as aggressive. He wouldn’t HAVE to be! And if he was, then he would just be a complete jerk. But when they’re connected, they both balance eachother out and contrast more. Good Cop allows Bad Cop to be mean and Bad Cop allows Good Cop to be nice.
Good Cop is the nice one. But he isn’t THAT nice. I think I said this earlier, Good Cop was totally okay with killing Emmet and he still works for Business. But he is less violent. He is the Good Cop, so he must be the sympathetic one, or else he wouldn’t BE that! He certainly is evil, but he also certainly is kind.
Bad Cop is the antithesis. He is the bad one, duh. But he also is not entirely terrible. He can be a little nice, as a treat. Especially after the loss of Good Cop. Now that there isn’t a Good Cop to be the good one, that leaves Bad Cop. And if you’ll notice, he does start acting a little nicer. He offers an easy way to Emmet, Wyldstyle, and Vitruvius in that Old West scene, he says thank you to what he THINKS is a robot, and obviously he brings back Good Cop at the end, he’s not entirely evil. But he definitely is a little bit.
During the movie, Bad Cop has a running gag where he beats up chairs. Aha, I’m really going into headcanon territory right now, but I see that as him taking his anger out on chairs instead of PEOPLE! Wouldn’t that be sweet? He tries not to hurt people! Amazing! He also melts people but I forgive him for that!
I love GCBC’s personalities. I love them on their own, but especially how they work together, as ‘one’ character. I love how despite being a Good Cop and a Bad Cop, they’re both more complicated than that. Man these guys are great!
4. Family
GCBC is the one LEGO character given a family. Obviously the story is about the Man and Boy upstairs, and they’re family, but no other LEGO gets that. Emmet and Business aren’t exactly related, even if they’re the LEGOsonas of Will and Finn. In a draft of TLM, Emmet did have a mom, Doris, but she was removed. GCBC gets parents though. And also, eachother, as brothers!
GCBC is a villain. But they have a family that they really do care for. Good Cop can’t bring himself to kill his family, when he’s entirely willing to kill Emmet. And Bad Cop is ‘willing’. But it’s more like he knows that if he doesn’t do it, Business is going to do it instead, and he’ll be punished. And he’s clearly apprehensive anyhow!
I already mentioned how Bad Cop reacts to losing his family, the only people who care for him, but there’s more! Bad Cop sings the song ‘Danny Boy’ after losing Good Cop. An old irish song about losing someone (usually by death) and wishing to be reunited someday. Cool man! I’m not crying! My eyes are sweating!
The fact that GCBC is given a family is very special! And the family really helps with their character. And everyone comes back in the end, but does that change how terrifying it would be to lose all your family, family who Bad Cop was especially close to?
5. Love
And now I talk about what might be the best part of GCBC. The love! Theres so much to GCBC, clearly the creators loved him. I love being able to see that. Despite being the villain, and not even the main villain at that, GCBC is included on lots of merch. GCBC is also included in lots of extras. And he’s included a LOT. GCBC is given so much by the creators!
Liam Neeson didn’t have to voice GCBC in single takes, but he did. Because he thought it fit the character. Because he cared about the character! He improvised that darndarndarnydarn thing because he cared about the character! He added all sorts of weird noises because he thought it fit GCBC! He didn’t HAVE to do that! He wasn’t getting anything from doing that! But he did it because he felt like it made the character better.
Isn’t that just darling? GCBC is not just a fan-favorite, I think he was a favorite of the people who worked on the movie as well! And I think those guys know a lot about TLM, ha ha! So, that’s 5 reasons why GCBC is the best character, in my opinion.
PART 07: Aftershock
WORD COUNT: 1.6k
SUMMARY: Following an eventful night; the day after spent in the hospital ends up equally as eventful, only for a different reason.
[series masterlist] | {ao3} | [tumblr masterlist] | {ko-fi} | [spotify playlist]
Tumblr media
The hospital wing where heroes were allowed to rest and recover peacefully was too quiet for your tastes, but you knew you’d be overwhelmed if you were sitting in the waiting area with the general public. Any concern you had about not waiting for someone to get you was squashed when you’d heard that Red Riot, Dynamite, and Deku were all having various injuries treated - you’d have been waiting for them all day if you’d stayed out on the streets.
You’d already been home - actually to Eijirou and Bakugou’s - took a quick shower, and gathered fresh clothes for the two men. They each kept a go bag in the coat closet by the front door, which made it easy to get what you needed after getting yourself cleaned up before getting back to where they were. The nurse had told you that they both overexerted their bodies and their quirks, so they’d be sleeping for a while and not leaving until the afternoon at the earliest. Which was fine; you weren’t working today after almost falling from a helicopter that had clearly skipped a couple safety checks, so you’d be able to bounce between their two rooms and make sure they weren’t too bored.
Or at least try to bounce into Bakugou’s until it got weird.
You hear him fussing as a nurse leaves the room looking stressed, and you stop the door from closing so you could talk to him for a minute and let him have his stuff. Maybe knowing that he had pants and casual clothes ready would help him relax and not create a revolving door of nurses until they asked Midoriya to act as his nurse. You know it had happened before, since he was probably the most difficult patient this hospital had ever seen, and was likely to happen again.
“Uh, hey,” you greet, leaning in the doorframe and taking in the sight of the number one hero looking…very pathetic.
He looked less than thrilled to be there, the metal braces keeping him there enough to remind you that he was notorious for just unhooking himself from all of the IV’s and monitors and just jumping out the window to escape while still wearing the hospital’s clothing. He’d done that during your third date with Eijirou, surprising you both during a scary movie when he’d basically thrown the door open in time with the slasher on the screen.
“Get me the hell out of here!”
“Can’t do that,” you point out, letting the door close behind you as you walk further into the room. “I’m a reporter, not a doctor, and I don’t have the keys.”
“I’m gonna stop letting Kirishima bring you home.” The counter is half hearted, but you feel better when he relaxes into the bed as you stop at his bedside and put his go bag on the chair beside his bed. “How is he?”
“A bit better than you, I think, but still not great. The nurse said there were a few broken ribs, some burns and cuts, but he’ll be okay. He wasn’t awake when I was here earlier, so I’m not sure how he’s feeling exactly.” He relaxes more at the information, and you know it’ll kill them both to be stuck here but apart. You’d need to talk to a nurse about one of them getting moved to the other’s room, since they’d feel better if they could see the other in recovery. Bakugou being a bit more cooperative with Eijirou in the room would definitely be a selling point that you’ll emphasize to get them to see the situation your way.
“I’m about the same. Broken ankle, too.”
“From catching me, I’m sure.”
“And I’d do it again.”
“It’s your job to do it again, Bakugou.”
“Yeah, but that’s not why.”
“For him, then?”
“For you, brat.” He’s not looking at you, but being strapped down means that he can’t turn away from you and his redness of his face was not because he was upset. Bakugou was outwardly angry, he wouldn’t be speaking so softly if he was mad. “I’m not good at this shit, but I don’t hate you. Never have.”
“Then why-”
“Kacchan! You’re awake!”
“Pipe down, nerd!” The instant scolding doesn’t phase Izuku, the number two hero greeting you with a hug before carefully checking you for injuries while rambling about your fall and how incredible it was to see Bakugou catch you. There were questions, too, and you try your best to answer before he can ask another (but are only half successful) until eventually you have to cut him off and get out of there.
“I promise that I’m alright, but I should go check in on Eijirou. It’s really good to see that you’re okay, Izuku.” With that, you’re excusing yourself from the room - hoping to not have to answer any more questions until Izuku settles down a bit.
You catch a nurse in passing, taking the time to ask if they’d be able to move the guys into the same room while explaining that they’ll be able to keep each other entertained if they were close - something that has her assuring you that she’d do what she could to make that happen. It was in the hospital’s best interest that Bakugou was kept entertained during his mandatory stay, and clearly she understood that just as well as you did that keeping the number one hero pacified as long as they could was best for the entire building. Then you’re turning into your boyfriend’s room, carefully shutting the door to avoid making any noise that would disrupt him.
He’s still sleeping, which was a moderate relief for you as you sat down in the chair at his bedside. His face is relaxed, only a couple bandages on his face and neck from whatever combat he’d experienced during the night. His hands were in rough shape, and you knew his torso would be heavily bandaged to protect those broken ribs. That was how you knew without a doubt he’d overused his quirk, eventually he couldn’t keep his body hard enough to truly deflect whatever was being thrown at him in a fight.
“I was faking it,” he whispers, startling you easily and you have to remind yourself that you can’t hit him while he’s injured like this even if he’s got that stupid grin on his face. “The last nurse was really chatty, babe, knew she’d never leave if she knew I was awake.”
“She’s going to get you and Bakugou in the same room, so be nice,” you whisper back, but give his hand a squeeze when he continues to grin at you. “He’s gonna be okay, by the way.”
“You already saw him?”
“I went back to your place to get your bags, and he was awake when I went in to drop his bag off. Cuts and burns, a couple broken ribs, and a broken ankle. Izuku is with him now.”
“Good,” Eijirou breathes, leaning back into the bed while keeping his eyes on you. “I’m so thankful that he was able to catch you.”
“You saw that?”
“News camera was broadcasting to the electronics store I was near. Saw you fall and saw him catch you, scariest couple of seconds of my life - and I’ve almost died a couple times.”
“Yeah, it was pretty scary. But I’m okay, a couple bruises from hitting Bakugou so hard in the catch but I’ll take that over being scraped off the pavement.”
“Never getting in a helicopter again, I’m sure.”
“Absolutely not. Ayame wants a memorial shrine so bad, she can do the aerials from now on.” The joke lands, and you follow when a gentle tug of your arm requests that you move closer. You feel better being closer to him, seated on the edge of his bed and able to feel his body heat beside yours. A reminder that he was alive, he was still here and so were you.
“I heard that the world’s more beautiful, gorgeous, news lady was on the ground helping with search and rescue.”
“Yeah, well, I couldn’t keep working, after all.” Your reason has him humming, his hand settling on your shoulder to gently pull you back to lie beside him in the bed. The smile on his face is very proud, and that has your chest warm with your own pride at your actions. It wasn’t that you needed to prove anything to anybody, you were just doing what needed to be done. “People needed help, and I was around.”
“And you say you aren’t that cool,” he teases, and you roll your eyes but let him lean in to get a kiss from you. “How long do we have to stay here, do you know?”
“Depends. You both seriously extended your bodies and your quirks beyond simple exhaustion. If you’re cooperative and promise to rest, hopefully this afternoon. If you’re not, I’m not sure.”
“I’ll be the most cooperative man so I can go home and snuggle with my babygirls.”
“Your bed isn’t big enough for all three of us.”
“Bakugou’s is, and I’m sure he’d be okay with us all snuggling after you fell from a helicopter, I got stabbed, and whatever else happened to him.”
“You got stabbed?” That was news to you, and the look on his face says enough about the fact that he wasn’t intending on telling you that he’d been stabbed. To be expected, but that doesn’t quell the disappointment you feel that he was going to keep that from you. Typical hero.
“Oops?”
“Kirishima Eijirou you can’t just leave that out!”
I miss, you
steve Harrington x henderson reader
warnings- angst (and un prof read work promise I’ll do it later I’m just really tired
also feel free to leave feed back this is my first time writing anything like this and feed back would be great fully appreciated practice makes perfect!
summary: steve and reader had broken up they now have to fight these supernatural beings together what happens when dustin confronts steve while y/n’s in the car and asks him about how he basically threw himself at nancy
I had broken up with steve a month ago its not that i didn’t love him still. it’s more that i knew he didn’t love me. his heart belonged to someone else. and i was foolish to think that someone was me.
because how could steve harrington ever love me. when he still not over his first love. at first I thought it was in my head. but i see the way they look at each other. the stolen glances here and there. and who was i to deny him the person he truly wants to be with.
so i had to let him go. because i loved him. and he loved her. he always has and always will.
it was the spring of 86 and once again we had gotten sucked into fighting the supernatural once again.
we had just been in the shed that eddie was staying in when we started hearing sirens with confused glances towards each other we look outside and see a bunch of police cruisers. we quickly tell eddie to hide under the tarp while we go investigate.
we all get in steve’s car and I get into the front seat while robin and the kids sit in the back. dustin and max look shaken up.
“hey it’s gonna be okay.” I console them turning around to look at them.
once we get to the scene, we quickly recognize a familiar face. nance. what was she doing there? I wondered. she gives steve a little wave and nods at him.
which steve returns.
we all make our way to the trailer park in which most of these events have taken place. we all sit at a picnic table I take a seat by steve being as thats the only seat that was left. I smile at him and then return to the conversation at hand. it doesn’t have to be awkward.
right?
“so you’re saying this thing that killed fred and chrissy is from the upside down?” asks nancy
“if the shoe fits.” mentions steve
“our working theory is that he attacks with a spell or a curse. and whether or not he’s doing the bidding of the mindflayer or just love killing teens, we don’t know. ” dustin says trying his best to fill her in.
“all we know is that this is something different. something new” I mention.
“this doesn’t make any sense.” said a confused nancy
“it’s only a theory” reassures my brother
“no fred and chrissy don’t make sense. I mean why why them.” said nancy trying to figure out what the connection was.
“maybe they were just in the wrong place.” I answered
“they were both at the game”
“and near the trailer park” said dustin and max listing things on how this could all be related
“were at the trailer park. should we maybe not be here?” asks a concerned steve
“fred started acting weird the second we got here” said nancy
“acting weird as in??” asked robin
“scared, on edge, upset.”
“max said chrissy was upset too.” said my brother
“yea but not here. she was crying in the bathroom at school” adds max
“serial killers stalk there pray before they strike right? so maybe fred and chrissy say this vecman ” asks robin
“vecna” corrects my brother.
“i dont know about you guys but if I saw some freaky wizard monster, I would mention it to someone.” says steve I nodded agreeing with him
“maybe they did. I saw chrissy leaving ms. kelly’s office. if you saw a monster you wouldn’t go to the police they’d never believe you. but you might go to your.”
“your shrink” I said finishing max’s sentence
once we were all done talking we headed to steve’s car. nancy clearly taking a different direction. i started opening the car door when i heard a
concerned steve yell over at nance
“whoa. whoa, nance, nance! where you going.” he asks. ouch. i try not to let this affect me. I mean isn’t this what I wanted. and more importantly what he wanted. I ignore the pain in my chest.
“something I wanna check on first” she answers
“something you wanna share with us?” asks my brother
“I mean yea I thought we were all in this together.” I say
“I don’t wanna waste your time, it’s a real shot in the dark.”
“yea, okay are you out of your mind? flying solo with this vecna creep on the loose no it’s too dangerous, you need, you need some to” steve tried to think of something
robin stares at me and clearly sees my discomfort.
steve then tosses his keys to robin.
“here. I’ll stick with nance, you guys take the car, check out the shrink.” if only he was that persistent when we broke up. I thought rolling my eyes at his behavior.
“I don’t think u want me driving your car” says robin
“why?” asks steve
“I don’t have my license.”
“why don’t you have a liscense”
“because im poor.”
“I can drive” says max
“no, no, no never again. please. anybody but you no.” said steve persistently
“alright just give the keys to henderson.” my brother raises his eyebrows and reachers for the keys.
“no obviously not you dipshit your sister”
“I mean yea I could drive but I don’t necessarily have my license either. are you sure you want to trust me with your car?”
“you’ve driven my car plenty of times I trust you.” said steve reminiscing those times he would teach you how to drive when you were first considering getting your license.
robin then stares at me obviously noticing I didn’t want him to leave with her. robin didnt really understand steve and how so clearly he could’ve chosen you the girl he loves but he keeps doing stupid shit like this.
“alright this is stupid.” said robin grabbing dustins walkie to insure we have communication she smiles and winks at me.
“us ladies will stick together. unless you think we need you to protect us.” I snort which then causes steve to glare at me they both make there ways to nancys station wagon.
my heart aches.
“be careful.” steve yells
ouch. see I was okay with them being together but them rubbing it in my face like this hurt. and maybe it wasn’t intentional all I knew is I never wanted to see this again.
“your just gonna stand there and gawk harrington.” noticing the same thing i noticed
“shut up.” answers steve
I enter the front steve of the car while dustin and max head for the back. I roll my eyes.
“why don’t we go okay?”
“shut up and get in the car and wipe your feet.”
“on the outside not the inside.” says steve in a disappointed mom tone I laugh
steve eventually get in the car.
“always the babysitter. always goddamn babysitter!” he hits the steering wheel.
we arrive at ms. kellys house and we watch from the car as she goes inside
“okay. she’s in”
“we can see that. im missing collarbones not my eyes.”
“so…. dustin continues. we gonna talk about it?”
“im sorry talk about what?” asks steve
“your temporary insanity earlier today when you basically threw yourself at nance.”
i snort.
“that’s not what happened.” steve mutters
“pretty sure that’s what happened it was pretty public. there were a lot of witnesses including my sister.”
“don’t bring me into this.” I say
“are you implying I have a thing for nance?” asked steve
“no im not implying. im stating as it relates to your steadfast refusal to get back together with my sister it’s pretty much the only logical explanation.”
“no way your the one putting these ideas in your sisters head henderson? that im still into fucking nancy”
“I don’t know steve you tell me”
“why are we talking about this situation as if I’m not here.” You mention
“no because you and your brother seem have this stupid idea that im still in love with nancy when so clearly the only person i care for is u.”
“steve can we not do this while my brothers in the car. please.” you pleaded tears threatening to fall out of my eyes
“alright so get out and cover your ears henderson. the adults need to speak ” he rolled his eyes looking out the window
“steve i promise we’ll speak later can we just focus on max.” I asked he nodded and we continued on our journey.
—————
later in the day we made to nancys house we all had to keep an eye on max after everything we had just found out.
once all the kids were sleeping and only me and steve were awake he dragged me to the bathroom and locked the door.
“ we’re talking and I swear to god if henderson is putting ideas into your head that I’m in love with nancy-“
“steve it’s not dustin it’s everyone, we all notice the way you look at her you never look at me that. ever.”
“I don’t want to be in the middle of that you deserve better.”
“baby…..” steve whispers holding my face as he sees the tears I push him off.
“no steve i can’t keep dating someone who is still in love with someone else. I mean look crazy you got back at the trailer park”
“because she’s a friend and I care about her. I don’t see a future with her y/n I see it with you.”
“steve you can’t say things like that.”
“y/n im serious I see you being mrs. harrington one day and carrying my babies. I don’t see that with nancy I see it with you. and im tired of fighting because I miss you. and im sorry if I haven’t been verbal about how much you mean to me y/n but your my entire world..” I stare at him letting him console my cheek while starring into my eyes
“not nancy. you henderson. and I’d kill my self before I’d ever let anything happen to you.”
“im sorry…”
“it’s okay baby it’s, okay just come here.” he says pulling me in for a hug.
Nancy x Ace and the case of miscommunication in 4x07
Well, well, well, if it isn’t the consequences of their actions and a butt ton of miscommunication coming back to bite my poor idiots in the butt.
Just when Ace thought they’d had a moment and could go back to what they had been to each other, he’s finally started to realise that isn’t possible. Thanks Tristan, I may not trust you in the slightest, but at least you’ve given both Nancy and Ace a wake up call that action (or inaction) has consequences and you can never go back to how things were no matter how much you may want to. And on that depressing life lesson, let’s dive straight into this episode.
Every episode offers a new snapshot into Ace and Nancy trying to find out how they fit together. In 4x04 they had no contact at all (and they were both miserable). In 4x05 Nancy enforced a colleagues space boundary (and they were both miserable). In 4x06 Ace tried to fall back into his acts of service love language by catching Chunky, and Nancy tried to explore other feelings that were heartbreak and misery, and lo, they were both miserable.
Suddenly we’re back to gravitating towards each other like magnets. For all Nancy’s declarations later in the episode that she needs space, she needs Ace to let her move on, she’s orbiting him like he’s her own personal sun again. On finding that Ace is at Nick’s she barges straight in and doesn’t shy away from talking to him, making eye contact with him, drinking in the sight of him as though she’s parched by the lack of him for a night.
Throughout the game they move to be next to each other, Ace moves to help protect her. They are constantly in each other’s spaces, sniping at each other, caring for each other - back on the same team. Just look at how they riff off each other getting Nick on board at the start. This is them finally meeting each other in the same place again and it is beautiful to watch.
The whole episode is absolute gold, up there with 2x11 The Scourge of the Forgotten Rune for me (Nancy Drew is at its best when it embraces the insanity and has the whole crew together doing crazy things), but I want to focus on that moment when Ace comes back to The Claw to see Nancy again. Sure he maintains that he’s there to pick up the silver, but he knew she would be there on her own and he is so desperate to try and talk to her without the others present and get them back on the same page again that he returns long after everyone else has gone.
And Nancy knows who it is the moment she hears his footsteps. These are two people so attuned to the other that they don’t even need to see. She knows from the way he opens the door, from the tread of his boots, from the scent of his shampoo, from the stuttered breath when he catches sight of her, from the way her heartbeat trips over itself.
Tumblr media
She’s been having the arguments she wants to have with him over and over and over in her head the entire time she’s been cleaning, and finally he’s here so she doesn’t wait, doesn’t ease into it, just throws them headfirst into confronting it. It had felt like maybe things would be ok, even though she was feeling messy and confused about that dance with Tristan, and for a lot of the game night it had been. But then Chunky and she’s been angry and spoiling for this fight ever since.
GIF Credit @nancy-drew
Because she wants Ace, she wants to be with him, to love him freely and without judgement. And not only does she still feel like he’s abandoned her, abandoned them. But she doesn’t know how to unpack what happened with Chunky. Ace was cornered when she pieced it together, flustered and unsure and George and Nick were there and he didn’t know how to explain all of it. That he was trying to do something for her, for them, that Chunky was a metaphor and he knew he had to let her go even though it’s killing him. Splits him clean in two every time she looks at him like that. And he was embarrassed, that he couldn’t bear the idea that she’d know - that he’d seen her with Tristan, that he’d done this for her, that his heart was stitched so messily to his sleeve when it comes to her.
Tumblr media
He wasn’t able to tell her any of that - can barely express it to himself. Tongue tied up when it matters the most. He’s always been able to talk to Nancy, but now - now it’s like he can’t unpick the words from his throat, his chest. Push them out beyond his teeth, caught up behind the boulder of the I love you that’s jamming his throat.
GIF Credit @nancy-drew
So she doesn’t understand - how could she? And she’s furious and spent the last hours arguing in her head so she’s spoiling for this fight, desperate to provoke something after so much uncertainty. She’s tried pleading, tried telling him how she feels, tried giving him space, and for so much of this day it’s felt almost normal between them. Except for wanting to touch him, wanting to kiss him, wanting to take him by the shoulders and shake him into understanding how much she needs him. But it’s no longer her curse, it’s our curse, the last shared connection between them.
Tumblr media
GIF Credit @nancy-drew
And it’s his words back in his face - wanting to go back as they were, as friends. And hearing them back hurts harder than it should, a punch to the solar plexus as he clenches his jaw against the pain. She’s not wrong, she’s not hurling accusations, not telling him anything new. But when they’ve been close, so close, so close to touching, to what they had before, suddenly it’s like ripping his chest open and handing her his still beating heart.
Tumblr media
GIF credit @nancy-drew
She’s calling him out, direct eye contact, she’s not shying away from him, from this conversation. From everything painful they’ve been burying and pretending was fine. And he knows he deserves it, still can’t find the words to untangle it so she understands exactly why they can’t try again to break the curse. To make her understand that he cannot lose her, the world cannot lose her, their friends and her dads cannot lose her. But he will put himself in harm's way a hundred times, a thousand, to protect her. If it’s just his life on the line he will throw himself on it just to see her smile, to touch her face, kiss her lips again. But he can’t tell her, can’t formulate the sounds, so he just keeps messing up and lying and hurting her with how much he’s caught in a net of his own fear and pain.
Tumblr media
GIF Credit @nancy-drew
And he’s so close at this moment. This moment of acknowledging finally that he was wrong, that they can’t go back. He never truly wanted to, his heart was never in it. Nick was right, there was too much tangled up in their friendship - that was never all there was.
They can’t go back, but he’s so damn afraid of forward, of what it means, of the risks they would take. But it’s there, poised on the tip of his tongue, the set of his shoulders, the tightness of his jaw.
Tumblr media
GIF credit @nancy-drew
He is so close to saying they should try. That he can’t bear not being with her, that seeing her dancing with another man was like ripping out his heart, plucking out his ribs one by one. But he’s so afraid that she doesn’t want that anymore, that it was just a passing interest (that he isn’t worth it, never worth it, will never be worth it) that he can’t put the words in her mouth, can’t suggest it, has to hear it from her. He sets her up for her to tell him she wants to be with him, wants to try again. Is poised on the precipice with his agreement to try again caught on his lips.
Tumblr media
GIF credit @nancy-drew
But Nancy is so battered and bruised and afraid that he’ll just leave again if she opens herself up that when he doesn’t say he wants to try again, when he doesn’t take the opportunity that she left dangling like a promise, she shuts down. And despite what she just said, that they never lied to each other, she leaves that firmly in the past and lies now. Gaze moving away from Ace - she can’t look him in the eye and say this. She lies. Tells him that she wants him to let her move on.
Tumblr media
GIF Credit @nancy-drew
Her body can’t carry on the deceit, moves towards him even as she’s telling him to let her go. Catches herself at the last moment and pulls back. Only looks at him again when she’s sure she’s steady, pulled herself back, won’t reach for him, leaves her hands fisted on empty air at her sides.
Tumblr media
GIF Credit @nancy-drew
Ace was so braced for her saying they should try again, you can see the shock, the desperate fear as his stomach plummets at her words. He thought they were moving towards trying again, and she’s pushing him further away, feeding back into his fear that’s not enough.
And for a moment they are honest. A beautiful sweeping breath of air, a last salvation moment for both of each giving the opportunity to the other to break the stalemate they’ve reached.
Tumblr media
They are both in so much pain, both so desperate to protect the other that they’re twisting the knives in harder. Showing a soft spot to drive in the next. And Nancy thinks that maybe, maybe by clearing the air, by acknowledging how heartbroken she is, how hurt and desperate he is, that Ace will finally step up, undo the damage before it’s too late and tell her they’ll keep trying.
Tumblr media
GIF Credit @nancy-drew
Clean the wound before it festers and turns septic. She needs Ace like breathing, can’t lose him but can’t stand the constant battle of yes and no, heartbreak and love, touching and not. It’s too much, layered one of the other over the other until she feels like she might crack beneath the weight of it all.
Tumblr media
GIF Credit @nancy-drew
But Ace has misread it. Thinks she truly just wants him to leave, to let her be, let her move on and be with Tristan. And even though it hurts, kills him, like swallowing glass every time he looks at them, he can understand exactly why she would want that and not him, Why would she ever want him? If she wanted him she would have said, she would have told him she wanted to try again. If you love something set it free - that’s all he can give her now.
Tumblr media
GIF credit @nancy-drew
They’ve always been so good at communicating with each other, but somewhere in these last days and weeks they’ve fallen out of step. Stopped trusting their instincts, no longer believing what their guts are screaming is true. Nancy was so sure that Ace would understand - he’s always understood, even when she herself has barely been able to fit the jigsaw pieces of her feelings together. So him agreeing, saying they’ll take space is like a final brutal blow when she’s already been beaten bloody. She sways towards him again, unintentional, she can’t help it, moving closer to him is an instinct, he’s her home. But she can’t look at him, has to look away to hide the raw devastation in her eyes.
Tumblr media
GIF credit @nancy-drew
He takes her silence, her refusal to look at him as agreement - of course she would agree, it’s what she’s said she wants. She’d tell him if it weren’t true, she’s just called him out for lying so everything now must be the truth. He turns to go, hesitates, waits for a beat expecting her to say something (anything). As he moves away she moves to occupy the space he’s just left. Even as she’s turning away from him she’s still subconsciously trying to move closer.
Tumblr media
GIF credit  @nancy-drew
She can’t bear to watch him leave, still half convinced he’ll say something, stop, turn around, grab her and kiss her and to hell with the curse. And he hesitates once, twice, three times. So sure she’ll stop him, say something. Not trusting that tug in his gut that’s telling him to stop, turn around, take her in his arms and tell her how much he loves her, that they’ll fight, they’ll fight until they’re free, and he’ll be there by her side every step of the way.
Tumblr media
GIF Credit  @nancy-drew
Nancy was frozen in that state of waiting, couldn’t move, could barely breathe, sure that at any moment the nightmare would end, that he’d understand, that he’d come back. But Florence starts up and drives away and then she breathes. Then she moves. Then she lets the tears fall. Because he left, just like so many others, even though she thought he was different, that he understood. He left her all alone, just like they always do.
could I get afic about little Viktor being scared of Allison after their arguement in season 3 and not wanting to be around her and her having to make it up to him :((
Bittersweet :)
-----
Word Count: 1126
Summery: Viktor asks to be small with Allison one more time before the end of the world.
-----
Allison twirled a loose thread on her shirt between her fingers. Back and fourth, back and fourth. She kept her eyes locked firmly on the string like it was the most interesting thing in the world. Like the universe as they knew it wasn’t ending just outside their walls, and like Viktor wasn’t sitting silently across from her, trying to ignore her too.
Their fight had ruined everything they had worked to rebuild over the past… she’d lost track of how long by now. Every heartfelt conversation, comforting hug, shared laugh, and maybe worst of all, the rare trust that Viktor had put in her to look after him, all crushed in five minutes. She had seen Viktor regressed since the argument, trailing after one of their siblings or tucked away somewhere he wasn’t expecting to be found, but only barely. It was obvious that he was trying to avoid her at all costs when he was regressed, and that stung more than any of the insults or cold glares they’d been exchanging. Because he wasn’t coming to her anymore, and she knew exactly why. He didn’t feel safe with her anymore. The look of pure, unfiltered fear in his eyes on the few times she did come face to face with him while regressed was physically painful. It made her feel nauseous.
Their bond had been something special. It allowed Viktor to get back his childhood, a chance the rest of them would probably never get, and have the parental love she knew he craved. And selfishly, taking care of him gave her back her motherhood, a feeling she missed so, so deeply. Pushing Viktor away ripped out a piece of her heart, and the hole ached more and more every hour as the end grew closer. She was never going to see her daughter again, and now it was her fault that she would never get to be a mother again. God, she was a terrible person.
“Allison?”
Viktor’s eyes were downcast, his expression soft, and staring holes into the arm of his chair.
“Mhm?” Part of her wanted to break down right on the spot, because the ‘apathetic bitch’ act was agony to keep up and Viktor was talking to her again, but that could scare him off or even make him angry, so she just had to act ‘normal’. Even if the new ‘normal’ hurt like hell.
Viktor was silent for a long moment. His fingers occasionally twitched as he absently toyed with them, a little subconscious fidget that he did when he wasn’t entirely present. Eventually his eyes gained focus and he turned to look at her. “…I don’t wanna die.” He croaked.
And Allison didn’t really know what to say to that. “I don’t think any of us want to. But…” She spared a split-second glance out the window where the carnage had crept a little closer since she last checked. She kept promising herself she wouldn’t look, but she found herself looking anyway. Guestimating how much time they had left.
Viktor shook his head slowly. “I don’t wanna die like this.” He motioned between the two of them. “Hating each other. Angry. Whatever. I don’t wanna hate you.”
Allison tried to squash down the hopeful feeling in her chest and forced herself to listen patiently.
“I don’t forgive you.” He continued. “I can’t. You killed Harlan, you were horrible to me and I hate what you did, but I… If this is it, then I… I don’t wanna be afraid of you.” He trailed off, and Allison knew exactly what he was talking about. At least, she hoped she did.
Viktor swallowed and took a breath. “Could I be little with you? One more time?”
A wave of relief washed over her. “Of course…” She smiled softly and patted the couch beside her. Viktor came over and sat down. He looked uncomfortable. “Can I hug you, baby?”
He hesitantly nodded, and leaned into her arms, tucking his head against her shoulder. He didn’t hug back, but that was okay. Allison was content just to be able to hold him close again.
“I’m so sorry, baby. For everything, okay? You don’t have to forgive me.” She rubbed a hand up and down his back. “Mama’s gonna try to make it up to you, because you deserved so much better… You deserve better. And you let me know if you want me to give you space after all, okay? I won’t be upset.”
Viktor nodded, and slowly brought up his hands to clutch at the fabric of her shirt. After that, the sniffling started. Allison shushed him gently, rocking him back and fourth and holding him like he was the most delicate thing in the world. “Shh, shh… It’s okay, baby. I know, I’m so sorry…”
She let him crying himself out on her shoulder, whispering as many comforting sweet nothings she could think of, until his breathing evened into shaky but deep breaths. “How old are we, sweetheart?”
Viktor thought for a moment, then tapped her arm one, two, three, four times.
“Four? That’s so big!” She cooed, “What do you want to do, sweet boy? Cuddle? Or maybe get a snack, hm?”
“Mm… snack, p’ease.”
“Okay, let’s go see what we can find. C’mon.” She took his hand and they walked to the kitchen.
The hotel kitchen was large and impersonal. It was missing the familiar feeling of their weird basement kitchen back home, sneaking strange little sandwich combinations behind their father’s back and breakfast with Mom, and it probably didn’t have many child-friendly snacks, but Allison would make do. They went into the pantry and began looking around for something fun. Pasta, spices, soup…
“Mama, look!” Viktor said, holding up a package of microwave popcorn, “Can we have this?”
“Sure, baby.”
In two minutes the popcorn was ready. Allison dumped the bag into a large metal bowl and they returned to the couch, huddled close. The internet had stopped working days ago, but Allison still had a few movies downloaded to her phone, so she put on grainy, low-quality Finding Nemo while they ate. As the movie played, she kept glancing over at Viktor, soaking up as much of this time as she could get. Viktor’s face was calm and content as he munched on handfuls of popcorn, highlighted delicately by the white daylight coming in through the windows that she could see little speckles of dust on his eyelashes. His sweater was soft, his breathing was slow and steady, and his body lay relaxed snuggled against hers. It was… perfect. Hurtling towards certain doom with no escape, Allison found herself in one more moment of perfect peace, one more perfect day with her brother, and her baby.
in sickness and in health (6)
warnings: remus-typical gore/nsfw mentions, injury mention, captivity, panic, logan mad scientist moments: mini edition, cliffhanger
-
The situation had spiraled out of control faster than Virgil’s self esteem mid-mental breakdown.
His mind kept replaying the last few moments, trying to find the choice that would have saved him. There were a hundred obvious answers, and ones that had been obvious even before he’d landed himself in his own worst case scenario.
He should have realized something was wrong with the stranger’s act before they’d gotten to the point of trying to stab each other. He should have been less harsh with the tackle, going by the wince-worthy crack of skull against marble. Most of all, he should have just cut his losses and ran the moment he’d realized the other borrower wasn’t even listening, but—
“You don’t get to take anything else from me,” he’d said, squinting against the light, each movement more stumble than step.
The guy was trying to protect Patton and his friends. He’d clearly had a run in with the Monoxide group before, had lost people to them before, and he’d still decided to confront Virgil.
Murder attempt or not, he couldn’t just leave the stranger there to get caught.
Now that he was squarely in the palm of a hand big enough to crush him in one motion, he was admittedly having some regrets.
“Woah there, Goth Thumbelina, no need to panic,” said Remus, hurriedly moving his other hand close to form a wall as Virgil attempted to duck away from the fingers curling over him. “A guy as small as you does not want to fall from this height, trust me. We’d turn the kitchen into a total splatter zone.”
And here Virgil had thought his heart couldn’t beat any faster. Life was always surprising him in the worst ways possible.
“Hello? Can you hear me, little guy?” Remus asked, lifting his hands to face level in a motion quick enough to shake what little balance Virgil had left. “You’re not dying of shock, are you? If I accidentally murder a fairy in Patty’s house, I’m pretty sure I’ll legally have to commit some kind of elaborate ritual suicide to atone.”
Well. His parents would probably be happy to know that he’d taken one last human down with him, at least.
Virgil drew all his limbs in until he felt more pillbug than person, his mind too full of mindless panicked shrieking for anything resembling a plan to form.
He couldn’t get away. He couldn’t fight the human off. He couldn’t even say anything, not unless he wanted to make this even worse for every other borrower in the world.
In the end, for all their malice and arrogance, a borrower from the Monoxide group was the same as any other borrower. There still wasn’t a single technique that would save them when they were in the clutches of a human.
All he could do was wait and see what the human decided to do with him.
… At the moment, Remus mostly seemed to be intent on poking him, over and over.
“Hey, c’mon, don’t kill us both in the world’s bizarrest murder-suicide! I haven’t even gotten to third base with a ghost yet!” The finger prodded lightly at the curve of his back again. “If we both die here, we’ll have to haunt this house together. Is that what you want? Because I will inevitably make it weird.”
Do not bite the human, Virgil reminded himself. Do not bite the human. That is a one-way ticket to getting thrown against a wall. Do not bite the human—
“Wow, you are way more polite than most of the small creatures I’ve held,” Remus noted enthusiastically. “On a completely unrelated note, are you venomous?”
Maybe one bite would be fine.
“Remus, if you’re cavorting with rodents in Pat’s kitchen, I swear—,” an annoyed grumble came from the entryway.
“Au contraire, less fair brother of mine,” Remus replied as he spun around to face his twin, “Any true rodent would have given me rabies twice over by now.”
Roman, who had a blanket cape draped over his shoulders and a cranky expression draped over his face, didn’t even glance down at Remus’s cupped hands. “Well, unless you’ve found a mouse-sized poltergeist, my beauty sleep—,”
“Huh.” Remus tilted his head, as though considering Virgil from a new angle. “Actually… maybe this is Patty’s mystery polterguest! Come look!”
He beckoned his twin over with a jerk of the head, and Roman’s suspicion deepened immediately. “Remus. If you are about to throw a cockroach at me, the repercussions will be severe and without mercy.”
“Heh,” Remus looked as if he was indulging in a fond memory. “Nah, I don’t want to ruin my intact-window streak by making you scream like an opera singer in a saw trap.”
Roman edged closer, eyes narrowed. “I still don’t see what kind of ghost would be that small—,”
“Tsk, tsk! Don’t judge a home invader by their size, RoBro!”
Virgil barely bit back a yelp as the human promptly stuck his cupped hands out, nearly knocking his kneeling form right back over. He ducked his head slightly, as though he could somehow prevent them from seeing what he was when he was literally being displayed at that very moment.
Roman’s eyes went wide as quarters as he peered down at him. “Holy Heracles. Is that a fairy?! Patton really is a Disney Princess!”
“That’s what I thought, too, but check it,” Remus nudged Virgil onto his side, revealing his back more clearly. “No wings, or even wing stumps. Plus, they live in the walls.”
Great, he’d noticed that. Still halfway to a panic attack, Virgil spared a pitying thought for all of borrowerkind.
“I feel like there was a Barbie movie that addressed the validity of wingless fairies,” Roman mused, before pausing to frown. “What do you mean, the walls? Tell me you didn’t try eating drywall again. This is not our house.”
“Nobody ever wants to try my fun sleepover activities,” Remus pouted, before rolling his eyes at Roman’s glare. “Don’t get your crown-patterned boxers in a twist, I caught them pre-wall entry.”
“‘Caught them’?” Roman echoed, glancing back down at Virgil, whose body had decided to start trembling hard enough to hopefully vibrate him right out of existence. “Oh my god, you traumatized the fairy. We are so gonna get cursed.”
“Awesome!” cheered Remus. “I hope it’s something with boils.”
“I am not re-enacting the Princess and the Frog as the more amphibious role!” Roman snapped, and lunged forward as though planning to snatch Virgil right out of Remus’s grasp.
Virgil had managed to keep his screaming internal thus far, but the strangled noise of terror that escaped him at the motion was entirely involuntary. Luckily, it was also probably high-pitched enough to bypass human hearing entirely.
“Woah!” Remus recoiled sharply, his hands cupping together to completely surround Virgil, like a child holding a firefly. “Do you even know how breakable itty-bitty creatures are? If I wanted to play tug of war with someone’s guts, I’d kidnap a politician!”
“If I shouldn’t be trusted with delicate creatures, you definitely shouldn’t be,” Roman shot back, though going by the distance of his muffled voice, he’d aborted his grabbing attempts. “Just put them down, they can’t even fly!”
The two of them exchanged some petulant, mostly-indistinct muttering, and then Remus shuffled to the side before placing his clasped hands down on something solid and slowly shifting them out from underneath Virgil.
Rather than fight the motion, Virgil pulled himself upright and let tension coil in every muscle, prepared to take off the instant he felt stable countertop under his feet again.
Sure, running hadn’t worked out for him the first time, but the first time, he’d been dragging the majority of a concussed stranger’s weight along with him. Seeing as Remus had barely caught him even with that handicap, he was more than willing to give fleeing for his life another shot.
His weight dropped onto a surface that was distinctly smoother and slicker than a kitchen counter, and his heart dropped along with it.
Sure enough, when Remus’s hands pulled back, he found himself standing at the bottom of a glass lemonade pitcher, no closer to escape than he’d been when a human hand had been the only thing between him and a fatal fall.
The twins were looming close enough to make his heart stutter, but they were also currently too preoccupied bickering with each other to pay their captive too much attention. Virgil backed up until his shoulders met glass, and slowly slid down into a sitting position, tucking his knees up against his chest.
He was never getting out of this.
“Janus,” Logan started, from where he was peering out the wallpaper doorway. “Haven’t we always agreed that we wouldn’t wish our humans on our worst enemy?”
“I don’t recall agreeing to that,” Janus countered halfheartedly, squinting past his near-blinding headache to follow Logan’s gaze. “Really, if you think about it, our worst enemies deserve to be faced with our least merciful weapons.”
In the kitchen, Remus cheerfully put his brother in a vicious headlock.
Also in the kitchen, the borrower Janus had totally and utterly screwed over flinched and flattened themself further against their glass prison.
Logan hummed in a way that did not make Janus feel like he was winning the argument. “And is this solitary borrower our worst enemy?”
“They could be,” Janus replied, indulging in as much of a sulk as his dignity would allow. “They have the mark, they knew what I was talking about. This could all be part of a long con.”
“A long con,” Logan echoed, “to get captured by humans.”
Humans that could have easily caught Janus instead, he pointedly didn’t say.
Janus felt the phantom pressure of a pair of hands shoving him to safety at the last moment, and nausea bubbled up in his throat. He felt fairly certain that it was only partially because of the alleged concussion Logan insisted he absolutely did have. “Anything’s possible.”
Logan turned from the nightmare scene in the kitchen to give Janus the look that comment deserved. “There were no passages to window box gardens or stores of harvested poisons in their home. All of the equipment I found was intended for borrowing, not assassination. There’s only signs of a single borrower residing here, when Monoxide members favor traveling in pairs or trios.”
Janus hissed under his breath. “We can’t just dismiss the possibility that they’re an outlier. A really strange, ineffective, idiotic outlier.”
“Perhaps, but looking at the current evidence offers us a far more plausible conclusion,” Logan said, and then paused, taking in Janus’s grim, hunched-over posture. “... Of course, we can’t truly confirm any theories without investigating our suspect further.”
“Our humans seem entirely too willing to interrogate them for us,” Janus replied bitterly.
Logan turned away from the doorway, dragging his oversized pack in front of him and rummaging through one of the side pockets. “In my experience, our humans have also been very susceptible to distraction.”
Janus perked up, recognizing something familiar in Logan’s tone. That was the tone that preceded a scheme risky enough to make typical borrowers faint just thinking about it.
“Of course,” Logan continued, pulling what looked like miniature explosive prototypes out of his bag, “a distraction loud and flashy enough to divert the twins would only worsen your concussion. I, however, am not concussed.” He paused to give one of the prototypes a dubious glance. “Yet.”
Janus leaned forward to try and inspect one of the devices, and received an armful of coiled thread and a meaningful look from Logan instead.
“Oh, sure,” he complained. “Leave the guy with the head injury with the job of convincing the stranger he tried to stab to participate in the rescue attempt, that makes perfect sense.”
“I have utmost faith in your persuasive abilities,” Logan said in that deadpan way that always made Janus doubt his claim to not understand sarcasm. “Be ready to move as soon as the twins are lured away; I haven't tested the new formula and I’m not sure how long they’ll burn.”
With that extremely concerning statement, the borrower tucked a pair of matches under his armpit, turned, and vanished around the nearest corner.
Janus pulled the thick loop of thread over one shoulder, crouched by the kitchen entrance, and waited.
To Logan’s credit, he worked fast. A series of crackling pops went off, distant but distinct, and their humans only exchanged the briefest of glances before haring off in an unspoken competition to get to the mysterious noises first. Truly, they were predictable in the most amusing ways.
Running had proven to be highly disorienting, so Janus speed walked across the counter to where the borrower’s prison sat. Undignified, but effective.
It hardly mattered; the stranger had crossed the width of the pitcher to peer after the twins and thus was facing the entirely wrong direction to notice Janus’s approach.
They did notice the weighted end of the thread clunk onto the glass behind them, going by how high they jumped and their vehement, half-wheezed swear. They glanced between him and the rope several times in bewilderment.
Janus waggled his fingers in an obnoxious little wave, just because he could. “Any day now. Unless you prefer your current accommodations, I suppose.”
“You’re… helping me?” they asked, with far more dubiousness than Janus felt was warranted. He hadn’t even managed to actually stab them.
“Do you really have the luxury of suspicion right now?” he asked back, shaking the rope for emphasis.
That seemed to snap them out of it. In the next moment, they were wrapping the end of the rope around their wrist and planting their feet on the glass wall, hauling themself up with impressive speed.
Janus leaned back, planting himself as a firmer counterbalance, and then paused.
He could still hear the muted bangs of borrower-sized chemical warfare going on in the other room, but that was it. For a space inhabited by both twins at the same time, there was a suspicious lack of shouting.
Unless…
A chill ran up his spine, and he resisted the urge to yank pointlessly on his end of the rope. “Hurry.”
“I’m trying,” the stranger bit back, grunting as they got a grip on the edge of the pitcher and pulled themself up. They lifted their head and froze in place, all the blood draining from their face.
Janus knew what he'd see before he even turned his head.
“I knew it,” Roman crowed from where he stood in the kitchen doorway, “you do talk!”
