Can I be honest for a second?

So many people open up a conversation about the fetishization Nico and Will are subjected to in the fandom and they make absolutely no effort to build a logical or serious one.

The fetishization of queer people in media is a serious thing and I believe it deserves to have a serious conversation about it.

I hate when all those people do to prove that Nico isn’t an “emo femboy” is just listing all the badass things Nico did in the books, as if of course he wouldn’t be able to do any of those if he was in fact femenine. He wouldn’t be able to survive tartarus, to kill Bryce Lawrence or to kick anyone ass if he was femenine because of course to people femenine=emotional=fragile=weak. I’m tired of this type of conversations. Nico isn’t an “uwu gay boy” because he survived tartarus, because he’s strong or because he killed Bryce Lawrence and not even because he’s the ghost king. He isn’t an “uwu gay boy” because he ISNT. Listing all the tough things he did in the books doesn’t make him more masculine or shit, you are literally just perpetuating the idea that femeninity equals weakness and need for protection.

Not to mention, perpetuating this idea when you are trying to have a conversation literally ABOUT queer fetishization, which ALSO includes that VERY SAME type of idea, makes the whole thing even more insane.

The modus operandi of completely erasing the fragility and sweetness that Nico’s character HAS only for the sake of making him as tough and strong and masculine as possible as a way to “counterattack “the fetishization is absolutely bullshit.

Again: nico ISNT an extremely feminine guy, but that has NO CORRELATION to the fact that he’s a badass.

Nico is a very tough guy and went thru a lot, but he’s still a genuinely sweet guy, and to assume that portraiting that part of him = femenization is just stupid, not to mention a disservice to his character.

This being said, I’m no way even remotely suggesting that the fetishization isn’t happening, or that it’s not wrong. Both Nico and Will ARE fetishized in this fandom, but if you wanna have a conversation about it, instead of perpetuating stupid and old ideals, you could talk about the fandoms need to always pin point roles on characters, which often stems from heteronormativity (especially seeing the correlation that has with the sexual roles)! You could talk about how there’s always this association between femininity and need for protection! there are may things to be said about this, what I’m trying to say is that it is a serious conversation, and it’s an important one to have, but it is also important to be mindful about some things we say.

I’m sorry, maybe I’m just hypersensitive but cmon. There are hardly any writers for transmasc reader, let alone pre-op transmasc readers. There is so much fem reader content for you to enjoy.

The amount of times I, as a trans man, have read and enjoyed fem reader content because in my head, it’s really not that hard to imagine it says good boy instead of good girl. It’s not that complicated.

If you read my writing and it doesn’t suit your fancy, then it wasn’t made for you. Please move on. Commenting things like this will get you blocked. Especially when it’s so easy to see my writing rules on my Masterlist.

If they had messaged me in private or sent an ask I could’ve answered their question much more kindly, but commenting this under my writing just pmo. Sorry for the rant, I just hate this. I love and welcome any and all afab readers! Please just don’t ask things like this in public comment sections- send me a dm or an ask. The most I can do is gender neutral writing. And I imagine my fem readers can do what I do, and just replace the ‘boy’ with ‘girl’ in their head.

The Magnus Archives is one of my fav podcasts ever and yet I've never been able to finish it cause of the way it portrays paranoia and just,., psychotic elements in general. It hits so close to home that it feels extremely personal

I got made fun of and laughed at for not being able to finish it, but I think people who don't experience psychosis will just never understand how intense it is to finally find media that you can relate to, without feeling like you're being vilified just for having a psychotic disorder

EDIT: Just to be clear I am definitely NOT saying TMA put in psychosis representation on purpose or that its perfect! For me personally there are just a lot of things that I can find myself back in, even to a detriment, pls dont take this any other way than me trying to express myself (i feel like i need to over explain myself rn cause you know,.,. paranoia and all that)

Maybe it's just me and I just don't understand the arc. Or maybe this arc will get some grand conclusion I'm really starting to doubt. But like I'm sick and tired of Tashigi being used as Zoro's misogyny proxy. Like the "a woman swordsman could never beat a man" belief and trauma made sense for both Kuina and Tashigi and was a very valid fear way back in the East Blue when they were still fighting relatively normal people and had no scope of how big the world is

but at this point where there are literally 20 feet tall dudes and people can blow up a whole city with just Haki the only reason Tashigi is still weak is because she is being written that way. Which is really hard to understand because it seems now more than ever One Piece has been getting more and more strong female characters so I don't know why every time Tashigi is on screen with Zoro we have to rehash this. It's even worse cause all she does in the scene is prove Zoro right by getting in a fight that she can't handle and needing saving. It's such a confusing message and honestly doesn't really apply or come up anywhere but with Tashigi and Zoro (outside of that one time where Zoro yells at enel for blasting Robin because she's a woman which was weird because Robin's been in a lot of fights before but seemed there just so enel could point out just how ruthless it is.)

Hell with the exception of the G5 all being in love with her. She is treated like a regular character and not just "the woman"

It honestly feels like both Tashigi and Smoker got lost in the narrative and Oda just doesn't know where to put their arcs. It feels like she was being written to help Zoro overcome whatever mental block Kuina's death instilled in him about facing female opponents with his sword. But she is just sooooo far behind him it renders the point moot and strengthens his convictions (it's weird that he will literally crush a woman's face rather than use his sword and is the only reason I won't say he doesn't fight women he does he just seems to have a mental block about cutting them down especially if they fight with anything blade like) but also we've only ever seen him face female character he knows can't challenge him it would have been interesting to see what he'd do in a fight against someone like big mom, tsuru or smoothie doubt that will happen though. But here's to hoping for Tashigi to have an actual arc.

It does feels weird that they watered down Lila’s personality in reduced her to “soft cottagecore wife” when she was with Five. It does feels odd that she didn’t even mention her children until the very end. It does sounds odd that she practically used him for “survival” as if a 35 year old woman couldn’t live without a man to the point she would fuck the closest one even if that’s her husband’s young brother

Everyone is like “omg but they spent 7 years together and Five deserves to be happy” but does Lila’s character deserves to be used as a token made just to be pair with the current lonely male character?

“Omg a boy and a woman a long together for a few years of course they’ll fall in love ” It is such a childish excuse I’m sorry it literally sounds like they’re are ignoring the general context and background of the characters bc they can not fantom the idea of a male and female character not ending together as default

Another thing, when I was talking with my cousin the other day, she told me about a guy friend she had. She's in elementary school & her and her classmate (who's a boy) used to walk home together after school, since they live relatively close to each other. Notice how I said used to?

Yeah, so, a bunch of kids from their class saw them walking home together & started the classic, "oooo you guys are datingggg" teasing. Rumors spread along with that & it made both of them so uncomfortable, they stopped walking together entirely. I'm not sure if they stopped talking too, but she never mentioned him again after that story.

It's so upsetting she's lost a connection with her friend b/c some other kids thought "girl talking to boy = dating." She's 10, she should be able to walk with her friend, without having to deal with constant bugs in her ear saying "oOoOOo you can't just be friends with a boy, you have to date."
