Caitlyn's Objectives for Zaun are Vague and Terrible.

"Locate Jinx."

Plenty of people have already talked about this one, but there's a clear "and" missing to this statement. Caitlyn isn't going to just find Jinx say mission accomplished and go back to Piltover. She's left her intentions for Jinx ambiguous to her superiors (Ambessa) and subordinates alike, which leaves room for the situation to escalate.

"Dismantle shimmer."

I cannot overstate how bad of an idea it is. It seems simple in excution. Secure the refineries, detain Singed and other chemists that manufacture it, and destroy any existing supplies. But everything else that comes with it will turn the situation even worse.

I'm not even talking about the fact that Caitlyn is suggesting everyone in Zaun addicted to shimmer immediately go cold turkey without warning, preparation, or their consent. It's that fact that she's essentially destroying the only form of healthcare infrastructure that exists in Zaun.

For all the bad shimmer can do, it's still an effective medicine when used right. It's not a coincidence that once Silco took over and introduced shimmer there's suddenly people with visible disabilities and prosthetics on screen existing in Zaun. They exist because shimmer makes it possible. Even 5 out the 6 chembarons, the richest and most powerful people in Zaun, are disabled or use mobility aids. Chembarons like Smeech quite obviously use shimmer (his eyes are pink in every scene including his character sheet) to manage his prosthetics, he's had all four limbs replaced.

How many people live like Silco, with a chronic illness (probably a dangerous infection because Zaun is Piltover's human/industrial wastepit) that needs to be treated daily? How many people are practically dead and buried if the enforcers manage to destroy all remaining shimmer?

"Neutralize any agents still loyal to Silco."

What does that even mean? What does being loyal to Silco mean when he's dead? They're getting rid of all infrastructure related to shimmer production. The only thing that remains of Silco that anyone can be loyal to is the belief he left behind (and maybe Jinx but that's complicated).

Above all else (except Jinx), Silco wanted an independent Zaun. Will That's his whole thing, and shimmer was just the mechanism to make it happen. Will anyone who agrees that Zaun should be independent be considered a Silco loyalist? If so, then Caitlyn's mission isn't just about finding Jinx and getting shimmer off the streets, this is about crushing an independence movement AGAIN.

How will she characterize Silco's loyalists? Is she talking about chembarons that worked with Silco? Former members of his gang? People who worked in Silco's factories and liked the paycheck? Silco was the defacto leader of Zaun, most if not all figures in Zaun with influence were essentially complicit in his agenda.

Is there any real difference between anti-Piltovan sentiment and pro-Zaunite independence at this point?

The Tomura volume redraws resembles the atmosphere during Toga's final moments. They're dying, but at least they're leaving after getting some semblance of "peace" in their final moments

I still hate that they died, (I will always hate this decision), but at least they died without as many regrets - supposedly. There’s just something about Tomura and Toga getting preventable but “peaceful” deaths that will forever unsettle me.

However, with these updated Tomura panels in the volume, I kinda hope it means that Dabi will get something new in the last hellish Todoroki chapter.

Because if not, this will be the last time we see Dabi before he dies in the timeskip:

I hate it. I used to think it was """fine""" because at least his fate was vague in the final chapter, but knowing that he does die ruins this scene more for me. I don't want to think that Tomura and Toga got these """peaceful""" deaths, while Dabi is instead forced to live out his remaining time inside a prison coffin so Endeavor can feel better about himself

So, I do hope that Dabi gets something new too. Maybe a flashback or imagery of him with his family or the League, or just SOMETHING to show that he also found that "moment of peace" like Tomura and Toga did before they left.

Otherwise Dabi really did get the worst death in my opinion. It's probably for the best that he did die in the end (knowing how this series is), but it's still upsetting for me

Hey! the mod here, im glad you like that curly is here, bu i will be honest, im not a curly defender, i donr believe he is as bad as jimmy but he is defnitely not morally corect either, he couldn't do anything but he could show insatisfaction. and he didn't do that. Instead, he said he would help jimmy with what happened. I still haven't played how fish are made, but some people have said that curly sounds like he is obsessed with something in it, and I've seen some people say it's jimmy, which i dont doubt. Either way, i love both characters alot curly is my fav, but it's important to have the notion that curly isn't a saint he is mostly a morally grey character. To be honest, every single mouthwash character aint a fully good human being. That's one of the many things that makes me love them so much. anyway, im ranting.thank you for your question and for enjoying the blog

something really cool happened today that i wanted to share:

my nephew is 9 years old, and a stereotypical little boy. he likes dinosaurs, minecraft, and ninjas.

today i walked in on him excitedly watching Nimona with my dad. (minor spoiler warning!)

i had never heard of it, but i sat down and watched some of it, just to see why he was so happy.

he started narrating it, anticipating parts of it, almost as if he’d seen it before. he had.

we didn’t get to finish it, but i watched it on my own, because it looked fun and i wanted to see how it ended.

and i loved it. it was a fun, exciting, fantastical adventure about the importance of acceptance people who are different to us.

and it had a very clear queer subplot.

one that my nephew hadn’t mentioned at all in his explanation of the film. his summary was “it’s about a monster who helps a knight that was framed for killing the queen”.

and honestly yeah, that is what the film was about.

before sharing it with us, he had watched it all, engrossed himself in the story, took it in entirely, and the part he cared about most was whether Nimona got her acceptance. he wasn’t indoctrinated, or confused, or questioning anything about himself.

he didn’t bat an eyelid over a gay love confession. he just enjoyed the film, raved about it, made my 60 year old dad watch the movie about the monster who didn’t fit in.

he’s still the same little boy who’s been asking us how to get a girlfriend.

the only thing a movie centred around queer and queer-coded characters taught my nephew was that those who are different to him are not monsters. that’s it.

and that dragons are really cool.

i feel like some people are missing the point of these "deaths" a little. like i know the previous arc's death baits don't help my point but i really don't think anyone is suppose to read the ADA deaths as permanent .. especially since fyodor and atsushi don't even do that. they both acknowledge the page and how to can undo everything. the point isn't for this to be the end of these characters stories but to use them show how 1) atsushi handles the intense trauma and stress of watching his family die in front of him and the pressure on him to get the page and undo it and 2) see how atsushi handles this situation since this is one of the few times he is completely on his own with no assistance, no plans and no fall back options.

now obviously i know akutagawa will likely get back into the fight too because of the s5 ending but id still say a lot of this is very reliant on atsushi since this isn't the same akutagawa he knows.

i know many people aren't enjoying this arc, they want skk back, they want back smaller scale conflicts, they want the ADA dynamics back, but people have also wanted atsushi to take back his place as the MC and this is setting up such a perfect opportunity to show atsushi's strength.

I can’t take criticism on Mel seriously because most of it is done by jayviks who say she’s pretty and call it a day then act like they love her😭. Like sorry, I’m not taking you seriously when your account is filled with only jayvik and you only talk about Mel to objectify her and seem like you don’t hate “the female character that gets in the way” that’s simply not enough. A lot of these hardcore “Mel is a manipulator” people are very obviously biased lmfao. “Jayce dumped her” except that never happened? They talked and then he left and fucking died lol, one important thing to remember is that these are CHARACTERS and there is writing behind them. What I’m saying is that they were handled poorly by the writers and they never actually “broke up” or should I say he never “dumped her🤓” they just.. had a thoughtful conversation and it was never brought up again. I feel like yall only say he “dumped her” so it fits the shitty narrative that Jayce dumped Mel for Viktor which is NOT true and literally never will be. You guys literally call her an “independent black woman who doesn’t need a man” except in different wording to make her seem unlovable. Yes, she doesn’t need a man but she WANTS a man. Stop acting like you actually want her to be independent, you just want to get her out of the way but also still seem like you’re an “”ally””.

No, my frustration with Rook's characterization isn't that there are limitations to a video games PC. It's that there are scant options to RP in the RPG and fewer options to make choices beyond 'do you want to do this quest y/n?' in a game series which previously bent over backwards to explore the idea of how far is too far for the greater good.

No, my frustration with the way the world seems to have changed is not that the there is a change or even that those changes are underexplained. It's that those changes feel more like reboots that don't want to continue the narrative of the previous games. Sure, the differences in the Crows could be chocked up to a differences in the Houses, or the change in how Circles are described could be because how the Mage-Templar war ended but A) that's never actually addressed or even lamp shaded B) the worldstate removal means that the changes can't be a consequence for past actions because it happened regardless of whatever occurred in the last three games!

No, the number of times the word 'okay' is used doesn't inherently make the game poorly written. The change in the writing voice, anachronist word choices, and flattening of characters into marvel quip speak is just best quantified by word choice.

Perhaps most frustratingly, No, my trans ass isn't somehow scandalized by the mere existence of a nonbinary person. There is plenty of transphobic bs being flung at the game, at Taash, and at the devs but acting like being critical of how Taash is written is exclusively due to transphobia just isn't true and it does boil my blood just a little when I see a post claiming that everyone critical of Taash's character is antitrans.
