Oh, are we using ElenaA's Windswept OC Maker today? I already made an Idris with it, but I suppose I could always unscrunkle them...
...did you know they were a copy-editor on the Surface?
#OC: Idris Peters#they lost their author-wife in the murder investigation#mostly because they were outed during the murder investigation#then they got thrown into New Newgate because they were falsely accused of killing their own daughter#in the version of events where they were in New Newgate#it gets even weirder in vampire au this is the easy version

Whumptober day 10: Blow to the head
When a diplomatic meeting goes wrong, Elrond suffers the consequences. Gil-galad is stressed, and Galadriel plans a murder.
-
The representative from Eregion was being exceptionally rude, and Elrond felt, not for the first time during this elf’s week-long visit, that Celebrimbor had been able to make the trip. It’s not the smiths fault, of course, he is far too busy to sacrifice a week for a series of meetings that would end as they always do, with everyone on good terms. Elrond had been spending this week mostly out of sight, writing speeches and arguments for Gil-Galad to say during the meetings, but on this day he was in the meeting room.
He was not to speak but the opportunity was amazing, and Elrond was practically glowing with excitement as he took his seat along one of the edges of the room. Galadriel, who was sitting next to Gil-galad, gave him a bright smile, and Elrond returned it with wide eyes. As everyone settled into their seats, the last to arrive was the representative from Eregion. The meeting started, and Elrond scribbled furiously as the members of the room took turns speaking. His argument sounded perfect when Gil-galad made it, and he was unsurprised to find that as the meeting came to an end he was happier than he had been in weeks.
And then the elf from Eregion, whose name Elrond cannot recall for the life of him, stood up and made a very… abrasive comment towards Galadriel. The room stiffened, tension thick in the air as Galadriel sat up straighter and opened her mouth to speak, only for another one of the council members to come to her defense first.
“You cannot speak about Lady Galadriel that way!” He shouts, standing up and approaching. He storms past Elrond and grabs the Eregion representative, who shoves back. They begin fighting, and Elrond can see the moment he is spotted by the representative, and though he tries to disappear as best he can into the wall, he is not successful. Just as the guards make it to the fighting elves, Elrond is pulled into the fight- quite literally, by his cloak, and has a dagger placed to his throat. The room freezes again, and Elrond feels more concerned than frightened, because there must be something going on with this person if they are being to aggresive. They should be taken to the halls of healing before any further investigation or punishment is brought upon them. The blade knicks his skin and his poorly suppressed whimper echoes in the dead quiet of the room.
“Silnor, there is no need for violence,” Gil-galad speaks gently, but there is a collective inhale when he breaks the silence. Elrond trusts his High King with his life, but even he tenses ever so slightly, fighting to keep his breathing under control. He is scared now, more than concerned, for though he still cares for the health of Silnor- a fitting name-, the knife is pressing harder and he can feel the wet warmth of a droplet of blood slowly traveling down his neck. “Please, let the herald go, and we can have a peaceful discussion.” The knife moves away for a moment, the hand holding it going lax, loosening, and Elrond takes the opportunity and disarms the elf. He thinks of Elros as he does, who was always the better fighter out of the two of them, and for whose memory Elrond had kept training, long after it had been believed that peace times were upon them.
He manages to get the knife away, and tosses it low to the ground moments before he finds himself hitting the floor. Ears now ringing, Elrond manages to scramble away as the guards apprehend the other elf, pushing his back to the wall. The world turns dark, and he belatedly realizes his eyes are now closed and opens them again, blinking into the faces of Gil-Galad and Galadriel as they stand above him. “He needs to see a healer,” Elrond mumbles, tentatively touching the back of his head and hissing as it gives a painful pulse. Gil-galad laughs, though it sounds a touch hysteric, and Galadriel kneels in front of Elrond, grabbing his face and titling it so that she can see the damage.
“You need to see a healer,” Galadriel says quietly, pulling him into a tight hug. Elrond hugs her back, tucking his face into her shoulder because his eyes have filled with tears and he does not want to be seen with them yet. The adrenaline has worn off, and he finds himself coming to terms with the fact that he could have died. “Come, I will escort you.”
Galadriel helps him stand, steadying him when his legs shake. She links their arms, and Elrond is surprised when Gil-galad takes his other arm in his. The walk takes longer than it should have, on account of Elrond walking slower than normal. Each step is a tremendous exertion of energy, and his body trembles beneath him, but Galadriel and Gil-galad do not falter in their support, and eventually he is sat in a bed, getting looked over. His neck is bandaged, and his head shows no signs of physical damage, so he is permitted to leave not long after arriving. Galadriel and Gil-galad stayed the whole time, which is touching, though unnecessary. He lets them fret, unable to keep away the warm feeling he gets whenever anyone shows that they care for him.
“You must stop getting into these situations,” Gil-galad murmurs to him as they walk back to Elrond’s room. Galadriel had gone off in her own direction, though she promised to visit Elrond later to check in. He will have to make sure he makes her favourite tea, as a thank you for help. Elrond shrugs, he does not go searching for trouble, it simply finds him, as it had since he was a child. His leading theory, though one only for his ears, is that he is cursed by the silmarils to be bothered by other people forever, as they were.
“It is not my fault!” Elrond protests, opening his door and stepping to the side to allow Gil-galad entrance. He tidies up for a moment, though the room is impeccable as always, because Elrond refuses to leave it as anything but in the mornings. He straightens the papers on his desk and takes a seat on his bed, keeping quiet as Gil-galad looks around. It is not the first time the High King has been in his room, but it is constantly changing with new books, and the various trinkets he has on rotation. Elrond unclips his cloak, and fiddles with the pin for a moment, cringing at the thought of the letter that will have to be sent to Celebrimbor about his representative.
Perhaps he will make a visit, Elrond would be very glad if that was the case, as it has been some time since they had last seen each other, and though they send letters on occasion, it is different from seeing him in person. Gil-galad sits next to him and gently takes the pin from his hands, setting it on the bedside table and begins stroking the top of Elrond’s hair. Elrond sighs and leans into the touch, soaking up the comfort from one of his oldest friends. The earlier exhaustion returns full force, and he leans against Gil-galad, letting his eyes fall shut.
“Rest, Elrond. I will be here when you wake.”
-
Galadriel stares down at the elf who hurt her friend with distaste. He has been isolated from the others in the halls of healing, and she can see the corruption within him. It is the result of an injury, one made from a foul weapon, but she cannot feel empathy for him. If, upon his healing, he is still a foul person from the inside out, she will feel no guilt in committing kinslaying. Elrond’s safety and comfort is worth the terrible action. She glares deeply at him and turns away, making her way towards Elrond’s room with a soft smile on her face. Yes, Elrond’s safety and comfort is certainly worth most anything in their world.

I haven't seen much of this, but what about Danganronpa x Ranpo!reader (from bsd). Like, everyone in the trial is trying to figure out the murderer, and the reader is just standing there, already knowing the identity of the killer-
Personally I would prefer if the reader was in Danganronpa V3, mostly because I enjoy the cast more. But that does mean that the reader can't be the ultimate detective, so you can make the reader be in Danganronpa 2 if you want :)
Extra comment:
"all's well that's well for me!"
ft. Danganronpa V3 Cast, Ranpo!reader
synopsis. You find yourself trapped in a school, with 16 other students and forced into a killing game! But don't worry, you're the ultimate Private Investigator!
warnings. Spoiler to the Danganronpa V3 game, mentions of death, kinda short
This was fun to make :) I had to rewatch BSD though, I feel like I haven't watched it in a while 😅
·˚✎ straight off the bat, you would annoy the hell out of Maki
·˚✎ you are just plain rude sometimes, and you seem like you don't take things seriously at all, which is just a huge red flag for Maki
·˚✎ like calling everyone stupid, or not helping with investigations and just simply snacking in your room
·˚✎ in some way, you're kinda like Kokichi
·˚✎ speaking of Kokichi, he would take an interest in you. You're just... So carefree. Just like him.
·˚✎ but he could tell for sure that you were not what you seemed. I can imagine you and Kokichi having a small competition to who's smarter.
·˚✎ Kaito thought you were low-key creepy. Because you just didn't seem to be bothered. You only looked slightly shocked when Monokuma announced the killing game, but after a while you returned to your calm face.
·˚✎ Kaede kinda liked your carefree attitude. But she also found you a bit rude, which didn't cause her to be very close with you
·˚✎ Shuichi was always caught off guard when with you, so he didn't really become friends with you until after the first trial. When he began to realise your intelligence.
·˚✎ speaking of the first trial (haha amazing transition), you didn't really do much to help. During the investigation, you just went back to your room. So everyone thought you were being lazy and selfish.
·˚✎ but then when everyone was driven to a corner, you stepped in and helped everyone.
·˚✎ literally no one expected you, who didn't even help with the investigations, to have figured everything out. But that's when you pulled a "I'll let the main character do everything" move. (Flashback to "tell them Naegi")
·˚✎ like, you'd be the Kyoko Kirigiri of Danganronpa V3, just more annoying and more lazy.
·˚✎ although, when it came to Kaede not being the actual killer, that was probably the one thing you accidentally overlooked. And it was only until later that you realized that Kaede might not actually be the killer of Rantaro. Or maybe you were already killed before you figured it out
·˚✎ slowly, everyone took a liking for your personality, because you were pretty trustworthy

I think the best way to tackle a Modern AU for BG3 isn’t to make it a slice of life but to some how combine the elements of a collage drama, organized crime, a dooms day cult, and an alien invasion all into one coherent plot.
I do not know how to do this but I do have some ideas. All the characters have no reason to associate with each other until they’re all abducted by aliens, wormed, and released back into the wild like a bird that just got tagged. Everyone kind of writes it off as either a bad trip or a dream until the cross paths and the worm does the connection thing. Eventually bringing them all together with a few people investigating the invasion to get to the bottom of what’s happening.
Wyll is a pre law student mostly against his will to appease his dad. He wants to help people but doesn’t necessarily want to be a cop like his father the chief of police. He half asses his classes because he doesn’t have much passion for them, blowing them off to volunteer in clubs and community outreach programs. I think Mizora should be either a professor, Dean of students, or academic advisor. In exchange for favors she alters his grades pushes him through the system. Little does he know she’s also idk involved with a crime organization and her favors go from small and perverted to slowly becoming more dangerous and criminal. He’s young and she has a lot of power over his future and could even expose him as a fraud and an accomplice to his father so he feel helpless to defy her.
Astarion is a law school drop out but that’s old news. You’ll find him prowling the local bar and club scene looking for potential clients. After a string of bad luck and poor life choices he’s a prostitute and drug dealer for a local gangster in the Black Hand gang only known as The Vampire (I know I’m so creative). Cazador’s deal is still the pretty much the same local rich public figure is secretly a very cruel and evil man who uses fear and addiction to control his underlings.
Karlach worked as muscle for the leader of the Black Hand gang before she was forcibly sold and enlisted as a mercenary over seas. After a ten years fighting in foreign years she’s back and ready to get her revenge on the whole Black Hand cult unfortunately she has to do it quickly because (ok idk I tried doing some research and couldn’t find any condition caused by an injury that can suddenly become fatal idk maybe cancer from a bullet or shrapnel)
Gale isn’t a professor but like a doctorate student on a tenure track, but bordering on the mad science kind of research. He’s in an abusive relationship with his over seeing faculty Mystra. Ultimately a lab accident during his research leads to the orb.
I think Lae’zel should still be an alien. She was abducted on another planet and escaped while the earthlings were being tadpoled. Now she’s stranded and tadpoled on a strange planet.
Halsin is a university professor and a local environmental activist. He’s been investigating strange occurrences and is onto the alien invasion thing.
I’m honestly not sure about Shadowheart. She should definitely be college age. But I’m not sure how to approach the shar thing.
Not sure about Minthara either except maybe military turned death cult member.
Jaheira and Minsc are cops investigating the alien invasion I’m so sorry not like real world cops but like fun fictional cops that only exist in movies. Boo is their police dog. OMG wait no they’re Park Rangers!!
Other stuff
The dead three chosen are instead three gang leaders. Except Bhaal cult also doubles as a murder cult still on top of being a criminal organization.
The alien invasion is still the mind flayer grand design.
I don’t think the dead three are controlling the mind flayers this time. Instead they’re using the strange alien invasion occurrences as grounds to start a dooms day cult or maybe they are idk

Request for Chie, Yukiko, Rise, and Naoto where they have a best friends to lovers relationship with their S/O. I'm talking about Yu and Yosuke levels of friendship. Please and thank you.
Ouch...almost two months...murdered motivation sucks...
-Chie first met you back in middle school. Your mutual love of martial arts movies led you to becoming fast friends, even though she was much more... enthusiastic than you were. You really just liked watch people fighting but Chie took it to the extreme.
-Not that you minded by any means of course, you looked up and admired her passion and drive. When you two met Yukiko as you entered high school you quickly became the glue holding the three of you together.
-It wasn't long before Yukiko started shipping the two of you together. Your dynamic just really struck a chord with her, she couldn't really describe it. As the Investigation team is formed and more people join, they start sharing the same sentiment.
-It never really occurred to Chie, mostly because she's not exactly a wise sage, but it certainly at least crossed your mind once or twice. Being around her just felt so...natural. It sort of felt like you were already romantically involved.
-It's after your close encounter with death when you caught the true culprit of the murders that you realized you had to do something or nothing would happen. It got you thinking on your own mortality and the realization that if you wanted to see change in your short life, you needed to make it happen yourself.
-As soon as you did work up the courage to confess your real feelings, Chie immediately breathes a sigh of relief, both at the fact that you felt the same she did and that she didn't need to take initiative herself anymore.
-Truthfully, not much changes People were teasing you about being in a relationship already for a reason. But there is that extra bit of tension when you're together. But it's the good kind.
-Your parents moved to Inaba when you were a child, and naturally you had to go along with them. While you were waiting for furniture to be moved into the new place you all went exploring and ended up at the Amagi Inn everyone was seemingly talking about.
-While you're looking around for things to do, you meet a girl your age who you learn is the daughter of the owners and you become friends pretty quickly.
-You're the first to find out and worry when Yukiko goes missing during your second year of high school. Once you figure out that Chie, Yosuke, and the new transfer student have found out where she is and they're planning to save her, you quickly assert yourself into the group, no room for negotiation.
-You lowkey lead the charge, leadership from Yu be damned. You're not letting anything happen to Yukiko as long as you still draw breath.
-Once you confront Yukiko's Shadow you go pretty much into overdrive. If her Shadow wasn't as strong as it was you would've thrown hands with it personally, even if you were weak to Fire skills after awakening your Persona.
-You barely manage to slip by and get Yukiko out safely after she's able to accept her Shadow. Something's still bothering you, though. The way her Shadow called you her prince, coming to save her.
-Upon questioning her, she suddenly gets rather nervous, but eventually confesses that she'd had feeling for you for some time now. You were able to act normal around her, supporting her no matter what.
-And you'd still stick by her no matter what. But this time, as her S/O.
-You were shopping one day in Junes when a girl your age quickly approached you, asking you to help her hide. Not really knowing what else to do when put in such a situation out of nowhere, you complied.
-After the surprisingly large crowd that came out of nowhere left, she breathed a sigh of relief and introduced herself as THE Risette, having no choice now. To her surprise though, you weren't a rabid fan. Yeah you'd heard of her, but had no interest in her status.
-Needless to say this came as quite a shock to her, but it also came with a huge opportunity. the opportunity to make a real, genuine friend without needing to worry about it going south because of her fame.
-So that's exactly what she did. You were keeping out of public eye as much as possible so people didn't catch on to your repeated plots in hiding her whenever the two of you went out, doing normal teenager things and growing closer.
-The feeling of security, of being able to be a normal person around you was something Rise didn't want to lose. Someone she could actually be Rise with, not Risette.
-The moment she knew she wanted you as an S/O, she made that clear immediately. And of course you couldn't say no to such an infectiously energetic, upbeat lady.
-Your dad was in the Inaba police force, he had been for quite a while. You accompanied him to the station one day, and for a change, actually found someone your age.
-An androgynous young man, claiming to be a student detective brought on to help solve the recent murder cases. You ask if you can help any, you did at least pick up a couple things from your old man. He said he'd get back to you if he ever needed anything and thanked you for the offer.
-It's not long before this new acquaintance, Naoto, does in fact get back to you. You two go out somewhere to eat and discuss/speculate about the case. Naoto however quickly became drawn to you, somehow, and the you ended up hanging out more casually, slowly but surely.
-Naoto in a twist of fate, however, ended up going missing as well like a few other people have. You were worrying for days about whether or not everything was alright, worried another body would be added to the count.
-Miraculously, and much to your relief, he ends up safe and sound, though saying there was a big secret to reveal. Naoto was actually...a woman.
-After listening to his- er... her reasoning for the disguise, you completely understand why it was done, much to her relief. You don't judge her for it.
-Once the secret's out, she opens up much more than before, and soon it's not long before a different kind of feeling between you two starts to develop. Surprisingly, she's the one to confess first. After confronting her Shadow, she realized she needed to be true to herself more, thought you don't need to know about the whole world inside the TV deal.
-She's inexperienced, but she's trying. It takes her a while to accept the fact you appreciated her for her, but the idea of calling you her S/O definitely wasn't one she was against.

Only a Genius could Love a Woman like Her
Pairing: Ron Kamonohashi x Detective!Reader
Sypnosis: (Name) being one of the top detectives, everyone admire her and had a lot of fans, including Totomaru, but then Toto thinks, who would be the most genius? Is it Ron or (Name)? Well you might find out if they were in the same case...
Warning: mention of body, murder, serial killer (idk if this should be added but just in case 👍)
Fuyuu-chan: My first time writing a detective fic so yeah, also a big thank you to @mayaree-darling for being my proofreader and for helping me 💙 (love you mwah). Anyways enjoy reading! 😚
✧◝(⁰▿⁰)◜✧
(Name) is one of the top detectives out there, known for being very intelligent. A lot of people had been talking about her mostly because she had solved a lot of cases.
She's also a person you can trust, very friendly as well. All of the people in her investigation squad are her friends. She’s even close with other investigation team members, like Isshiki Totomaru.
Totomaru actually wondered who is the most intelligent - is it you or Ron, his friend that he made a few months ago that was also intelligent and a former student in BLUE.
Well that might get answered today as there was a new case involving a serial killer again.
You bumped into Totomaru in the mall and ended up hanging out. He tells you that he wanted to introduce you to someone he was gonna meet up with when you heard someone scream and of course out of instinct you and him hurry to where the noise came from.
And there you saw a body on the ground and a saleslady, judging by her uniform. The saleslady was sitting on the ground, looking terrified. Who could blame her, the people around look just as afraid. Totomaru looks shocked but you remain unfazed about it, probably because you've seen so many bodies before that you've grown used to it.
You called the police and after that you glanced at the body, observed the surroundings. When you turn back to the body, a man was lying next to it. "What are you doing? And who are you? This is a restricted area," you said to the man, but he seems to be saying something to the corpse.
Then Totomaru came towards you. "Ah, sorry Miss (Name). This is my friend, Ron Komonohashi. He's an acquaintance of mine, and he always does that. He's also the person I wanted for you to meet, the one I've been talking about," he said as he rubbed the back of his neck.
"I see...so that's him," you looked back at the man whose name is Ron. He got up and went towards you.
"You’re a detective right? You look pretty" he said as he smiled. "I've noticed a few details that might have happened here.”
"Oh? Well can I hear it? It might add on the details I've already taken note of," you said as you showed your notebook.
"Wait, you already took notes?" Ron asked.
"Of course," you said. "Also I believe this case is also part of the new serial killer based on how the victim died and that card next to the body, it's what that serial killer does whenever they strike again," you explained as you look at the body.
"As expected of the highly praised and famous detective," Totomaru smiled at you, his eyes shining with admiration.
"Although, I don't think you've gone near the body... how did you..?" Totomaru said, confused.
"Wait, she didn't go near the body?..." Ron said as he looked at Toto and back to you.
"I don't need to since I already saw everything I needed to see," you said as you shrugged. You never really needed to go near the body since you had sharp eyes; only needing to in complicated cases do you have to approach the body but most of the time you don't. It's one of the things your admirers admire about you.
"Sugoiii" Totomaru said, his eyes shining again. "So that's what all your fans have been talking about, I can finally see you in action during the investigation!" he added.
Ron was quiet the entire time, caught off guard. First, you were fast at taking notes about the details, second you didn't have to go near the body because of your sharp eyes and third, the fact that you already connected this case to the other, when most of the detectives he knew took a long time to realize these things. You were clearly different, you were fast and serious about your job.
Ron looked at you and analyzed you for a bit. You looked casual, friendly, approachable, but there is something about you that he can't put his fingers on, something he feels about you that he can’t place yet.
He was so busy thinking he didn't realize the police were already there. You were smiling for some reason. He realized he didn't investigate again, and got distracted by thinking of you. But then you spoke up saying you figured it out, making him even more shocked than before.
He listened as you explained and deduced the entire case. Finally, you point out the killer, which was the saleslady who "discovered" the body. You showed proof that she's the one who did it, only proven when she had one of the pieces of evidence on her.
As she was cornered by you she had no choice but to fall down to her knees and admit she was the one who murdered them all. You notice in your peripheral vision Totomaru leading Ron outside for safety purposes and for no accidents to happen again like any other case he'd been in.
After everything is solved and done you go outside to see the two of them talking.
"Ah, Miss (Name), is everything done?" Totomaru said as he looked at you.
"Yes," you answered.
"That's good to know...also, I'm sorry for not helping" he said as a sweat dropped.
You sighed. What had Amamiya done to this boy that he was sweating like this? Had she been scolding him that much? You thought to yourself as you waved him off.
"Nah it's good, I handled it anyways and besides it's your day off and this is my investigation squad area. No need to feel bad."
He sighed in relief, he thought you would scold him. "You're so nice, Miss (Name). Thank you," he said.
"No need to thank me... also, stop with the formalities. The job is over, anyways," you said as you finally looked at Ron only to meet his gaze already on you.
"Wanna have some coffee?" Ron asked.
"Hmmm? Well I guess I could use some coffee break, so sure," you said as you smiled.
Then the three of you set off to go to the nearest coffee shop. Once you all arrived you ordered your drinks and snacks and picked a seat in one corner. Ron breaks the silence "You were really good back there, I can't believe you solved that so easily."
You chuckled. "It was obvious, the girl already showed signs from the very beginning."
"She did?' they both asked at the same time.
"Yep," you said. Just in time, you hear the counter call the number for your order.
Totomaru said he would get the drinks so you and Ron were left alone. "Tell me, Ron, why were you so distracted earlier? I noticed you didn't get to solve it, either," you said.
"Huh..? What do you mean?" he said, caught off guard.
"You were looking around even while I was explaining the murder and the evidence, so it was pretty obvious,” you tap your fingers on the table. “But you’re probably wondering how I knew you were the one solving the cases when Totomaru “handles” the situation, right?”
Ron nodded. You turned to where Totomaru was and saw there was a line to get the order, so you looked back at Ron. "Don't tell it, Totomaru but knowing him, he wouldn't know how to solve difficult cases. When I heard what Chikori Monki the journalist told me about Totomaru’s attitude and reaction during the coffee shop case,it just confirmed it for me. Even Amamiya is surprised he gets to solve cases like that."
You looked back at where Totomaru is and back at Ron again. "And then I heard you were always with Totomaru in those cases, it clicked that you were the one solving those and telling it to him. I also heard you were a former student in BLUE, Totomaru mentioned meeting one of the professors there; well...late professor. You have my condolences," you continued.
Ron was silent the entire time, you know so much about him. "Did you research about me?" he asked.
“Not really. There was no need. I get all my information from stories Totomaru tells me, even if he leaves your name out of it. I heard your name a long time ago in BLUE, I just remembered recently. Finally, I heard from my friend Kawasemi about you and he just confirmed it for me when I told him.” you wave your phone around, showing your recent chat with the detective. Ron is stunned.
"That's a lot of information you have there," he said, chuckling nervously.
"Of course, I have to know things about the people I interact with," you said as you smiled innocently.
"Ah...wait...don't tell me you know about the-" he was about to ask when you cut him off.
"Oh, Totomaru is here... and to answer, yeah." you said as you looked at Ron and to Totomaru who was approaching with a tray in hand with all of your drinks and snacks.
Ron looked at Totomaru who set the tray down on the table. "Thank you for getting the order," you said as you grabbed your drink and snack.
"Thank you as well for treating us Mis- ah (name)" Totomaru said as he rubbed the back of his neck.
"You're welcome" you said as you took a sip of your drink.
"Wait..don't change the topic, how'd you know about that?" Ron said as he looked you in the eyes.
"Umm it's obvious? I notice a lot of things other people don’t, especially like earlier. Besides, when Totomaru tells me about his cases, or I hear the police talking about recent cases, I ask about details. And one thing the other police always mentioned was something happening at the end of a case: when the killer is found, a man would pressure them, but Totomaru would always manage to save the day.” you took a bite on your snack.
"Huh..?" Totomaru looks puzzled when you say that.
Ron just looked speechless. How could you know every little detail?
"Wait, Toto, don't tell me you lead me outside earlier because she told you to?" Ron turned to Totomaru and asked.
"...Umm, yeah, (Name) told me to. She said we should both go outside and I should look over you.." he said as he recalled what you told him earlier as he held his chin.
Then Ron suddenly looked at you with wide eyes and Totomaru gaped at you. "Hold on a minute, you knew from the very beginning? Is this what you’ve been talking about?"
"Not quite the very beginning, but yeah, some of it. I didn’t want any problems. And besides, I don't want that happening under my care. If you don't want whatever is going on with you and the culprit to happen then make sure to go outside or somewhere far away after Totomaru voices your deduction," you said as you looked at him unfazed. You were expecting him to react like this anyway.
Ron looks at you, completely floored. Here you were, basically aware of half his life, retelling it to him casually. Totomaru looked confused still, but then it clicked after a few minutes of silence.
"Wait, she knew everything? You knew?" Totomaru said as he looked at Ron and then you repeatedly, looking for an answer. So you explained everything to him again.
"Wait, but you never knew much about me and don't ask people about me," Totomaru said but you just shushed him
“That’s just what you think,” you chuckled as you sip your coffee. “Besides the more I heard about Ron, the more I thought he was interesting.”
After that you and Ron got close especially after knowing everything. He took his time with you, getting to know you almost as much as you knew him. Ron also found out you were also good at self defense after one of the killers in one case attacked. He saw how you handled it. He thought about it before, when he first met you, but you were a bit scary...
As time passes, you, Ron, and Totomaru had cases that all of you would investigate together. You and Ron took this chance to compete (in a good way) on who'd be the first to solve the case. Totomaru actually couldn't believe you and him would hold competitions even during times as serious as this but eventually he got used to it. Most of the time, you win because you distract Ron, but at the same time Ron does the same to you and that makes you lose to him.
You said you would defeat him in other cases, and there is no problem in finding some cases because every time you three are together somehow there is always a murder and if not probably theft or other things. Ron seemed happy to solve more cases; sometimes you were, too, but at the same time you find it rather concerning...
While in the past everyone saw only Ron and Totomaru, now they see (Name), Ron, and Totomaru together. People even said that Totomaru looked like a third wheel to you and Ron, especially with how you got along. Some even said that you and Ron looked like enemies to lovers as you two would always "fight" in investigations.

One thing I really enjoy a lot about I-1 and I-2 is a theme of availability and injustice, while always holding characters accountable. For a game that is targeted mostly at the young audience, teenagers and young adults, it does discuss difficult themes of corruption in legal system.
The half of this plot could've been avoided if people with power would care for something apart themselves. It's more of the I-2 theme, rather than I-1, but if at least one person stopped being awful Simeon (Simon) would never become such a paranoid. All this terrible abuse he suffered at the hands of Fifi Laguard (Patricia Roland). The woman that was supposed to care for him and become his mother figure, interrogated him like a convict. But one of the worst things is that Simeon couldn't even trust the police — people whose literal job is to protect innocent — because if he spoke out and sought help he'd be either silenced or investigated by Blaise (I don't have the brains to spell his new alleged name). Just because of some people's greed, he lost his childhood and became paranoid. Yet he still isn't innocent or made out to look like it. The game itself says it. During his quest for revenge he ended up hurting a lot of innocent people, whose fault was literally just being at the wrong place at the wrong time (Jill Crane, Kay, partially Bronco/Horace). It isn't justified, because innocent people's lives were taken because of his desires. And all of this because people with power, those who supposed to protect everyone, we're too preoccupied.
Same can be said for Katherine Hall. Is there a justice about Master getting in jail for a crime he didn't commit? No, and never will. Despite the best efforts of Gregory, Ray (Eddie) and Badd, nothing could be done, because authority to end the investigation belonged to MVK. His perfectionism was put above someone's life. And he got away with it. For 18 years.... Yet game doesn't try to say that Kate should've gone through with killing Dane. Because murder is never okay and because once again, it harms people unrelated to this case.
This is very good moral and very interesting topic to bring up.
I could go on and on about how these two games are about corruption and lies. But one question that applies to every character IMO is Where is a justice and if it even is achievable. Where is the justice for their suffering and should they resort to illegal means to find it?
I love this games

Arei's s/o during the second trial
A/n:on this final installment of drdt daturday we have......angst well it's not as angsty and heartbreaking as the last episode I NEED TO GIVE TERUKO A HUG RIGHT NOW....don't worry I already have some ideas for some comfort fics for her
[Spoilers for all of drdt chapter 2 obviously]
It was hard to explain the emotions you were feeling in that elevator. You stood in the back with your head down and your arms crossed, you hadn't talked to anyone during the investigation, you didn't want to, the image of your girlfriend's body hanging from that swing was still fresh in your mind and the idea that you could even accidentally talk to the person who killed her made you want to vomit.
"Y-y/n are you OK?"
"......no"
"O-oh"
"Sorry eden, it's just.....she's gone"
"Don't worry, I understand. Her death hit me pretty hard so I can't even imagine what it's like for you"
".....thank you for checking on me"
"It's nothing. I promise we'll find her killer"
"......I don't know if that's gonna make me feel better"
"......."
Your conversation was interrupted by the door opening and everyone walking out. You went to your podium, and the trial started.
You stayed mostly silent during the first part of the trial only telling the secret you received and occasionally interjecting.....until David said this
"Ahahaha!!! Oh fucking fine.....i.....I killed arei, does hearing that make you happy?"
"!"
"You piece of shit, you really admitted to it"
"You.....how could you do that! You're horrible!"
"What a mess"
"How exciting~"
teruko convinced David to explain himself, and you were still shocked to hear what he had to say....but for a very different reason
"I suppose you could call me arei's murderer but it's more like I talked her into killing herself"
........what?
"You........what?"
"She already had a pretty low opinion of herself, and she was looking for validation from me. It was pretty easy to convince her she should die"
"That's.....that's-"
"Terrible! how could you possibly do that! Arei wanted to change! and you talked her into believing she couldn't!"
"And why should I care? Actually, to that matter, why should you care? Arei contributed nothing of significant value to my life or to yours. She existed as a background character for a few short days, to occasionally interject brief interruptions of bitching and now she's gone. Arei had about as much impact as a temporary weather spell, but no one cries when the sun comes out again"
You couldn't take it anymore. That bastard needed to shut up
".....I see so that's how it is.......how dare you"
"Oh, what are you mad that i-"
"How dare you lie to our faces like that!"
"........."
"Ahahaha and to think I believed you for a second, arei killed herself? Sure whatever you say!"
"Y-y/n?, what's wrong?"
"Listen to me, arei would never kill herself, do you know how many death treaths she received? Do you know how many times her sisters told her to do just that? And you think she'd do that because of you? Fuck off"
"I agree with y/n, arei wasn't the type to commit suicide plus there's too much stuff that David can't explain about the crime"
"Oh, you don't believe me? how cruel! I wanted to make this trial easier for you, you know?"
"Shut up! I'm sure teruko will find some concrete evidence to expose your lie but just know I'm not voting until this blue haired bitch tells the truth"
"Blue haired bitch? Awwww are you seeing arei's ghost? Maybe she wants you to join her"
"I was talking about you shithead, now stop lying"
"..........you want the truth uh?.......fine then I guess I'll tell you, y/n is right, I didn't kill arei, I didn't talk her into suicide, our conversation had nothing to do with her death"
"W-what?"
"Took you long enough"
"Why the hell did you lie then? Don't you know that if we vote wrong all of us will die, you too shitface"
".....I don't know if that will answer your question but if anyone was wondering............I know who the real killer is"
"E-eh?"
"What the fuck?"
"What are you on about now?"
"It's true, I was near the crime scene around the time of the murder, did you forget that? And I saw the murder being committed"
"He's probably lying again.....right?"
"But why would he?"
"W-who is it? Who killed arei?"
"Alright then, listen closely cause I'll say it one time only......the cold-blooded killer who ruthlessly took arei nageishi's life is.............. Y/N L/N!"
W-what did he just say?
"W-whaaaaaaaaaat?"
"No way!"
"Y-you bastard"
"Explain yourself"
"Very well, since teruko asked me so nicely, I'll do it. So, as you know and as ace can confirm, arei and i had a conversation in the relaxation room, after she left I stayed there for a while thinking about our discussion and when I left I passed by the playground, the rooms are right in front of each other if you remember, and there I saw....y/n right in the middle of strangling arei, of course I left immediately to not become the next portrait around here"
"....there's no way, you're lying, y/n would never, they loved arei"
"If you knew they were the killer, then why did you claim to have killed her earlier?"
"Because I was soooo distraught by the scene of y/n killing the person they claimed to love that I just felt the need to cover for them"
"R-really?"
"Nope I just wanted you all to vote wrong"
"Fuck you"
"We almost died because of your lie"
"Like I care, so what do you have to say.... you murderer?"
David looked straight at you, and you snapped, not only did this piece of shit lie to arei to gain her trust, not only did he try to get everyone killed but now he was lying again and claiming that you were the killer?
"......so that's how you want to play.... alright then, I'll play by your rules"
"How fun~"
"First of all why the heck would I kill arei? She was my girlfriend for fuck's sake"
"I dunno maybe you had an argument that escalated"
"As if I'd kill her for something like that"
"Then maybe she started attacking you first. She was pretty aggressive after all. Maybe this was all just self-defense"
"Oh, so you think I just carry around rope with me everywhere I go? She was hanged, remember?"
"Well I saw you choking her so maybe you put too much force and accidentally killed her, then when you realized what you had done, you decided to grab the rope and make it look like a suicide"
"Then why the fuck would I object when you yourself told everyone you talked arei into suicide? everyone was about to vote for you, if I stayed silent I would have won the trial"
"You said it yourself. You knew teruko was going to disprove me sooner or later, so you thought that by doing that whole scene, you would look innocent and play the part of the heartbroken partner who just lost their girlfriend. 10/10 performance, by the way, you could have given me a run for my money"
"Y-you........t-then why would I feel the need to fake the letter in eden's name, I could have used mine, and it would have probably worked better"
"Ah! You're so desperate. You're asking me these obvious questions? Anyone with a brain knows that if their name was found on the letter, it would have implicated them. Luckily for you, there was just one other person who arei trusted enough to meet with alone"
"..........son of a-"
"That's enough y/n, I have some questions too. What's the deal with the fishes at the crime scene?"
"How am I supposed to know, I'm not the killer. Ask them!"
"Y/n?"
"I. Don't. Know. I am not the fucking culprit"
"*sighs* you're both being so unhelpful"
"You want me to be helpful? Fine then. Why the hell are we trusting the testimony of the guy who NOT EVEN 5 MINUTES AGO admitted to lying to get us all killed, and might I remind you, who's secret is that he exists to manipulate everyone. We might as well trust a pathological liar at this point"
"Y/n's right, David's definitely lying again"
"Y-yeah, there's no way they'd kill arei"
"I agree with eden, y/n and arei really loved each other, I-I don't think they'd ever hurt each other in any way"
"I mean, people kill their lovers for stupid reasons all the time. If you add the killing game and arei's personality into the mix, I could easily see y/n killing her"
"......*sighs* I base my suspicions on evidence alone, not sentimentality, and right now, the only evidence we have is David's testimony. I would do the same if any of you accused him"
"T-teruko, you believe him? You really think y/n killed arei?"
".....it's definitely a possibility, one that I need to investigate"
"Are you even listening to me?!"
"I. Didn't. Kill. Arei. How many times do I have to say that before it gets through your thick skull? And I thought you were the smart one teruko"
"I didn't even say it was for sure. You have to admit it's a possibility, plus with how defensive you're getting"
"DEFENSIVE? do you know what it's like being accused of killing the person you loved. Actually you should know that feeling all too well after what happened with Xander"
"S-shut up"
"No, wait, now I understand. You're being like this because you think I'm like Xander, you think I pretended to love arei just to betray her in the end, you're projecting you own trust issues onto me aren't you?"
"........."
[Rebuttal showdown]
"I'm not arei's murderer!"
"What motive would I even have?"
"We already knew each other secret's even before this killing game"
"I have no reason to kill her!"
[Advance]
"As much as agreeing with David gives me physical pain. Like he said, the reason for arei's murder could have nothing to do with the secrets"
"Then what about the opportunity"
"The murder took place at 7:30 p.m right?"
"You're out of your element"
[Break]
"Huh? Charles? What is it?"
"I think David is lying, but when I was trying to think of evidence to prove y/n's innocence, I realized something much worse"
"Worse? That's bad!"
"What is it now-"
"Everyone Shut up! I need to think...........damn it. Teruko, we really fucked up"
After Charles explained that the murder could have happened at 7:30 am and teruko and Arturo admitted their mistakes (one way more calmly than the other) you started talking about your alibis at that time
"Most of us wake up at 8:00 am as early as 7:30 we would all still be asleep"
"Yeah. I was definitely asleep at that time"
"I don't have an alibi in the morning, neither does Charles"
"Do none of us have alibis during the time of the murder?"
"No I do"
"Hm? Y/n?"
"I woke up early to have breakfast, At around 7:30, David and Veronika were also there, and j came in a bit later, so they're all clear and should be able to confirm what I said"
"Yeah it's true I woke up early too to shake off arturo"
"Yep,yep, we were all having breakfast together. None of us could possibly be the murderer"
"And to think I was happily eating while arei was being murdered in the other room......it's so-"
"Exciting~"
".........."
".........shit"
"If y/n has a alibi, then they're not the killer"
"Not only that, but David was there too, so he can't have killed arei either, even if he already admitted to lying about that"
"S-so David lied....twice?"
"He really did try to get us all killed....what an asshole"
"So y/n's not the culprit after all"
"That's what I've been trying to tell you for the past 30 minutes......anyway, what do you have to say you lying piece of shit?"
"Whoops! You really should have skipped breakfast that day you know y/n? Waking up early isn't even that fun"
"Shut up!"
"David, without a doubt you lied about both you and y/n being arei's murderer especially now that we know that both of you are two of the few people who couldn't have murdered her"
"Well when you put it that way, I suppoooose its in the realm if possibility that I've been lying about everything for the past 2 hours"
"Dude, what the fuck? You do know that an incorrect vote will get everyone killed right?"
"David, why?"
"If I tried to explain why, would you even believe me? After all, everyone thinks I'm some sort of compulsive liar now, like y/n said"
"Don't give me that crap, teruko has already apologized for misleading the trial by accident. And she's teruko of all people"
"I'm "teruko of all people?" harsh"
"So don't think you can weasel out of an explanation for misleading the trial on purpose....twice"
"Besides,to try and get everyone killed, yourself included....I'm sure you must have a remarkably interesting motivation. So please, do tell me. Oh, and don't say something as boring as "I want to kill myself." I have no interest in such mundane reasons"
"Please, I'm an incredibly interesting person full on joyous zest for life......the truth is......... I killed arei"
That stupid repetition made you yell at him again
"SHUT UP, NO SHUT THE ACTUAL FUCK UP. I swear If you lie again I will actually kill you"
"Come on. It was just a little joke~ it's true neither me nor y/n killed arei. I only said whatever was necessary to make you all think I or they did. Hell, I didn't even think to take the blame for her death until halfway through this trial! And I only accused y/n because they wouldn't believe me, and they pissed me off. Also, it would make a good story, don't you think? You know for the TV show"
"So you accused me of murdering arei because you felt like it?"
"Pretty much, it didn't really make a difference to me as long as you believed my lie"
After David did his whole speech about Xander being a good person (which pissed off teruko) and how he wants to end the killing game, you started talking about alibis again and Levi, hu, Veronika and teruko said which secrets were theirs finally revealing them all.
"I've started to detect that this trial is no longer about me, it'd be bestif I kept my mouth shut from now on riiiight?"
"If it's settled then-"
"Wait before he shuts up for good, I need to ask him something"
"Oh what a surprise! I thought you hated me"
"I do, but you're the only one who can give me my answer.....oh, and my previous statement is still valid if you lie I'll kill you"
"Nooooo please, I'm sooooo scared. Don't worry, I'll definitely tell the truth"
"......what were her last words?"
"Hm?"
"You know what I'm talking about. You and arei talked the night before she was killed.....what did you talk about?"
"Didn't ace already tell you? She found out about my secret and confronted me about it."
"I know that. But what happened later?"
"........."
"How did the conversation end? Was she mad? Did she yell at you? What happened exactly?
"........."
"Eden, you want to hear that too right?"
"....Y-yeah exactly"
"Tell us, David. What did she say?"
".........nothing. absolutely nothing. I didn't say anything to her, and she didn't have that much to say to me either. Arei simply got annoyed with me and left without saying anything else"
"....that's a relief-"
"You're lying again"
"Uh? How do you know?"
".......I don't, but it's a bet I'm willing to make. Arei.......she couldn't have simply left. She had to have said something, anything.....let me hear her last words"
"........why do you even care? Those weren't even her last words"
"..........."
"She died the next morning, remember? She probably said something between our conversation and her death. I'd wager her true last words were her cussing out her killer it would be very in character for he-"
"STOP IT"
"Uh?"
"STOP TREATING AREI LIKE THAT"
"........."
"None of you know what she was truly like. You all think she was some irredeemable bitch who got what she deserved. I'm tired of everyone slandering her, hell even before this game, do you know how many "you deserve better" or "i bet she doesn't even love you" I got. Everyone who found out I was dating her looked at me like I was willingly undergoing torture"
".......y-y/n"
"And even now that she's dead, you can't even put an ounce of respect on her name. You're talking about her like she's a mannequin, someone who wasn't here talking to us just a few days ago. And when you occasionally remember that she used to be a living person, you remember her like she was a piece of shit who contributed nothing but being annoying, and I'm tired of it"
"........."
"Do you even remember why she was killed in the first place? Because she trusted eden enough to meet with her, because she wanted to befriend her this bad. Tell me, would a bad person do that? Would a bad person save eden from arturo? Would a bad person die trying to befriend someone?....... Would a bad person love me like she did?"
At that point, you were practically crying, but you didn't care. They needed to know who arei truly was. You couldn't just stand there and let her memory be insulted like that. Especially now that it was the only thing you had left of her
"No matter what anyone says. No matter what she herself says. Arei was the best person I ever met. Because she knew she was a bad person and she tried to change that"
"Well she was doing a pretty shit job at it then-"
"DO YOU THINK I CARE?"
"U-uh?"
"Even if by the end of her life she was only 5% less shitty, hell even if she was exactly the same as she is, I'd still love her and consider her the best person I met. Because none of you know how hard it is to truly change. None of you know the hell she went through daily when she was with her sisters, and despite that, she still tried her best to change. None of you know how fucking admirable that is"
"Please y/n calm-"
"David! Earlier, you said that no one would cry if arei died. Well, I did, I cried. Do you know why I didn't investigate? Because I was locked in my room sobbing because my girlfriend's body was hanging off a fucking swing and everyone else is acting like normal. So I need to know. Tell me. WHAT WERE HER LAST WORDS?"
The trial room fell silent, the only noise that could be heard were the cries and sobs that came from you and eden (who started crying in the middle of your speech).....until David broke the silence
"........she said that good people don't exist"
"U-uh?"
"She said that because even people like me and eden did horrible things, good people don't truly exist, and she didn't have to worry about being one"
"W-what?"
"She said that we could be friends because we're so similar, she said that maybe in the future.......we could be less shitty together"
".....y-you're lying again a-aren't you? Y-you're just playing with my feelings"
"No I'm telling the truth"
His serious tone caught you off guard and you decided to let him finish
"What you said before, about no one truly knowing who arei really was, about everyone disrespecting her after her death and no one believing she was a good person.....that's how I feel about Xander......so I thought you deserved to know"
You stayed silent for a few seconds taking everything in, but then you asked the question you couldn't keep inside anymore
"........d-did she say anything about me?"
"........yes"
[Flashback]
"What about y/n?"
"Uh?"
"You don't think they're a good person?"
"......no..................I think they're the best person I ever met"
"....what?"
"I don't know if they're an objectively good person. Like I said, I don't think those exist, but that doesn't matter to me. In my eyes, they truly are the best person on this planet"
".........."
"Well, I guess they have to be if they can keep up with me. no matter how many times I push them away, no matter how many times I get angry at them or yell, they never left me. They're always there to hug me when I feel down. They saw me at my lowest point in life, and they never said anything negative about me, they saw how shitty I was and never for a moment did they consider leaving me......I don't think I'd be here without them......I love them so much"
[End flashback]
You cried even more, just putting your head down as your tears landed on the podium. She loved you. Her "last words" were that she loved you
"*sobs*....arei......I don't know if you can hear me.....but if you can......please know.....that I love you too.....so so much"
Everyone stayed silent for a few minutes, even eden and hu who wanted to comfort you, they all silently agreed to leave you alone for the rest of the trial as they started talking about the case again, and they did, you couldn't bring yourself to say anything, you still listened but you stayed silent........until teruko narrowed down the suspects to only eden and ace
"......teruko"
"Y-y/n?"
"What is it?"
"Are you 100% sure that only eden or Ace could have committed the murder?"
"Yes, I'm positive. They're the only ones"
"......I see........monotv can I vote?"
"Uh?"
"W-what?"
"Wait a second, you can't be serious. We don't even know who the killer is, and you already want us to vote?"
"No, only I want to vote.....alone...you can vote later"
"What does that even mean? Why?"
"Because......eden can't be the culprit.......that can't be possible"
".......y/n"
"She wanted to be arei's friend, she was just as upset by her death as I was......she didn't kill arei I am 100% sure of that"
"What's your evidence for that?"
"........I have none"
".........what?"
"I trust eden, that's all the evidence I need"
"Your trust is going to get you killed"
"And your lack of it is going to lead to you making more mistakes"
".....!"
"You said it yourself earlier in the trial, right? You want to start to trust people more. Well then, consider this a show of what trust truly is. I'll vote for Ace. "
"W-what the fuck?"
".............why are you doing this?"
"I told you before, I trust eden and.....I know this is what arei would have wanted"
"........."
".......y-y/n thank you.....thank you so much"
"H-hold on is that even allowed. If you're wrong, then aren't we all gonna die?"
"Did you forget how this works? It's a majority vote. Even if I'm wrong, the rest of you can still vote for eden. So will you let me, monotv?"
"Hmmmmm, I mean, I guess there's no rule against a person voting before everyone else. Sure I'll let you it'll be fun here's your monopad"
You did as you said and voted for Ace. Everyone looked at you, surprised that you actually went through with that, except eden, who was very grateful that you trusted her this much.
As it turns out, you were right. Ace was blackened, and he only did it because he was scared of dying.....you didn't know what to think about that so you stayed silent once again in the moments leading up and during the voting.
"Y/n......are you OK?"
".........i....i"
"Of course they aren't. They just found out who killed their girlfriend, I'm sure they must be boiling with rage just waiting to see the brutal way ace dies riiiiiiight~?"
"...........I'm so tired"
"Hm?"
"I just can't do this anymore, yelling at ace isn't going to bring arei back, it's pointless"
"But aren't you angry at him?"
"..............of course I am"
"......."
"Of course I'm angry at him, and of course I want to hate him, I want to yell at him and be happy when he dies, saying that arei is avenged, but I just can't"
"W-why? I'm a piece of shit who killed your girlfriend because I'm a coward. Why can't you hate me?"
"BECAUSE I'M SCARED OF DYING TOO GODDAMMIT!"
"!"
"Everyone in this room is, even the dead, min,Xander, arei they were all scared of dying otherwise this whole killing game wouldn't exist"
"W-what do you mean?"
"Think about it, Ace just said it, he killed arei simply because he didn't want to die, isn't that the same reason Min killed Xander? Because she walked in on him trying to kill teruko and panicked, she was scared that he was going to kill her...and so she acted first"
".........."
"The fact that every single one of us, if pushed to the brink, could murder someone simply because of the fear that that could happen to them........it scares me"
"Y-y/n....."
"That's why even if you killed the person I loved most, even If you are a cowardly piece of shit I just can't hate you because I know that in the right conditions I would have done the exact same thing"
"........i-i"
"Let's just get this over with, I'm.....really tired"
Everything that happened later went by in a flash and it felt like a nightmare, ace punching monotv, Levi saving teruko from her punishment and ace getting executed, you all rushed to the infirmary to treat levi while teruko stayed back in the trial room.
You sighed and went back to your room after everything was dealt with. you plopped down on your bed and.....did nothing, you had already cried enough for the day and there wasn't anything to do, you couldn't even sleep since it was still morning so you started to think
Arei was dead, and there was nothing you could do about it. This killing game was going to continue and you were either going to get killed or give in to your fear of death and kill someone. You felt nothing but pure despair.
"Y/n, they're the best person I ever met, I wouldn't be here without them.....I love them so much"
Arei's last words came back to your mind. She really loved you.........would she want you to give up like this?.....no she wouldn't, she'd probably slap you and call you a coward If she saw you like this.......were you really going to disrespect her like this? Were you going to give up that easily?.....no, you didn't want to...that would just mean insulting her memory. As long as there was the slightest hope that you would get out of here alive, you would follow it.
"When we get back home.....I'll make you a grave in your favorite spot alright?"
You felt the wind hit your cheek like a soft kiss. There was no open window near you or nothing that could make that kind of breeze
".....I'll take that as a yes.....have fun wherever you are and make sure to beat the shit out of ace alright? And say hi to min and xander for me I miss them too"
This time, water hit your cheeks, your own tears that you couldn't hold back anymore even if you were smiling
".........I love you too"
No matter wherever she was, you knew she was somehow watching over you, and you were going to keep living for her....that was a promise that you were going to keep no matter what.

I Should Have Known Better Then To Debate My Brother On Star Wars But I Did It Anyway
That's a lengthy way to start a post, I know, but I'm in a very riled up mood right now.
I remember the first time I argued with him about this. Our family did a rewatch of the Star Wars series (prequels than originals) at my request (and I usually never get emotional, so they were very concerned when I started crying my eyes out during Order 66 and asking if we should stop) and afterwards we talked.
Since I'm an avid Pro Jedi fan, there was a lot of arguing about 'The Jedi could have done this/should have done this!'. A bit with my family, but mostly with my brother since we're an argumentative pair and he's the only one who's watched extra materials such as TCW to further why the Jedi failed/should have done more.
We had to agree to disagree, so it ended there. Now here I am years later, having already talked to him about why glorifying this particularly abusive M/F is not peak romance or good writing, what defines bad writing, and general amatonormativity, and since I'm back in a SW swing, I thought about bringing it up to him, hoping he'd gotten a little more flexible since the last time we talked about it.
Clearly, I was too optimistic to think that.
Cue the usual tangent of (which I've already seen from. . . So many fans):
-The Jedi should have known Palpatine was a Sith.
-They should have treated Anakin better.
-They should have made him a Master.
-They shouldn't have given him that advice about death.
-Obi-Wan wasn't ready for a Padawan.
-They should have investigated Sifo-Dyas's murder.
-They should have investigated more.
-That's just the way the story is written and how the characters would react in real life, so of course Filoni is a good viewpoint on the Jedi.
. . . And just the general, 'they should have done more' statement that's been uttered countless times before.
I tried to point out the flaws in this way of thinking, I really did.
-It's established right in TPM that the Sith have been extinct for a very long time, and they verbally acknowledge that they don't know whether the one killed was the Master of the Apprentice, so it wasn't like they just up and forgot about the enemy that could still be out there. And it's literally stated in the very next movie that their ability to use the Force has been diminished, so it's not like they could have seen the Sith in plain sight in the force. Minor note, I know Force Signatures are mentioned a lot in fanon, but I don't remember anything like that ever being mentioned in canon (I know there's Legends but that's a separate continuity). With all that to keep in mind, why would they think he was a Sith? We have a different view of things because we're the audience, but they don't! Even though they didn't magically know he was the Sith Lord, that doesn't mean they're blind to his dealings or the corruption within the Senate, unless I completely hallucinated the part where the Jedi Masters were on their way to arrest Palpatine even before they learned he was a Sith Lord.
-Questioning a kid to see how he would respond to your ways of life is not being nice enough apparently (people can debate about his trauma and the authorial intent all day, but the basis is that the Jedi are not supposed to be framed as the bad guys). Apparently adopting him and treating him as a part of their family just isn't enough. Clearly, they should have coddled him even more, maybe then he wouldn't have murdered them down to the last child! (This is sarcasm because they never treated him differently or anything, even the Chosen One thing is barely brought up, and all his darkest moments are ones the Jedi were never made aware of). I know people will just say to put him in therapy because I've seen them say that many times before, but the truth is that he's already in therapy with the Jedi, he just doesn't absorb any of it because he doesn't want to.
-Yeah, because an adult throwing a temper tantrum when he's been appointed to a leading authority by a shady government leader who should not have any authority over their organization isn't sketchy as fuck, that response alone proves he WAS not ready, because he still didn't understand what the Jedi were about, much less mastery of himself. My brother at least admitted that was a good point when I outlined it, so score for me, I guess.
-People give Yoda grief all the time for his advice, but they always seem to forget that, firstly, Anakin is asking this during a war they've been fighting for three years, one they've lost many friends and family to, and secondly. . . Anakin was really fucking vague when he brought this forward. He doesn't even specify who he's talking about isn't a fellow Jedi, clone, or otherwise (And I can't help but draw a parallel to how he didn't tell Obi-Wan about his visions of Shmi and people will blame Obi-Wan when Anakin's the one who can't bother to properly fucking communicate) and he doesn't listen because it's not what he wants to hear. He doesn't just want to save Padme; he wants to cheat death because he's possessive and greedy and doesn't want his loved ones to ever leave him. Yoda's advice was actually very useful, but since when has Anakin ever listened to good advice? Once again, my brother admitted that was a good point, so the second score went to me.
-I know fandom loves to portray Obi-Wan as this self-hating mess that's barely keeping it together (who also does a lot of medic dodging for some reason?). . . But that's not who he is in canon? The real Obi-Wan is controlled and capable, and he was a young adult when he was Knighted, not a kid, who went on to become the youngest member of the Council when he became a Master. It wasn't like he was left to teach Anakin alone, because he had the Order, and they're canonically big on communal teaching. Even just in the movies, we frequently see that Obi-Wan's the one who reaches out to Anakin and Anakin's the one who shuts him out. Obi-Wan was a great teacher, Anakin was just a shit student.
-The Jedi learned about Sifo-Dyas's unauthorized role in the creation of the clone army literally right before the war broke out, so it wasn't like they were in a position where they could look more into it. Even before that, they were under the impression that he died during a failed peace negotiation. My brother still said this even though there was a literal WHOLE ASS ARC IN TCW WHERE THEY INVESTIGATED HIS DEATH. He watched that arc to, and he still says they should have investigated his death even when they literally did. I have no words for such a contradictory way of thinking.
-I know it's easy to say stuff like that, but Star Wars isn't written for adults who want all the messy bits, but for kids for a good vs evil story, so of course investigation stuff is shoved to the side. Even in TCW where we do see them investigating, they're hampered by the Senate, by Palpatine, by the war, and by the narrative. Even ignoring that, Anakin literally said in ROTS that Palpatine was the Sith THAT THEY WERE LOOKING FOR, so that means they were investigating even though we didn't see it onscreen.
-Filoni. . . God just thinking about him makes me angry. I could write a whole essay on how he's twisted the narrative for Star Wars so badly, and I hate essays, but plenty of people have already done it better, so I won't.
-But still, I think it's hilarious that I can point out certain things he's written terribly (TCW, TOTJ, TTB, and Ahsoka) to show that he doesn't like the Jedi, and my brother is still saying, 'well that's just how the story is written and how the characters will react so he doesn't really hate the Jedi with that sort of evidence and blah blah blah.'
-Of course, for TCW, my brother brought up that stupid arc where AsHoKa iS pErSeCuTeD - I just think it's funny how, with trying to make his special oc look good and the Jedi Council unlikable, Filoni accidentally made her unintentional unsympathetic and made the dOgMaTiC lEaDeRsHiP unintentionally sympathetic. And of course, who could forget the infamous s7 moment of her not being fair to Obi-Wan? I know people will say she's a teenager and she's confused and she's still feeling betrayed - but the thing is, that doesn't hold up because the narrative never follows up on it. It's not a personal flaw of hers, it's solely there to frame Ahsoka (and Bo-Katan/the Mandalorians by proxy) as right and Obi-Wan (and the Jedi Council/Order by proxy) as wrong. I'm sure there are more examples that can be noted, but those are definitely two of the biggest offenses in my book.
-Tales of the Jedi wasn't even about the Jedi, it was about two specific individuals who LEFT the Jedi. One who went on to become invincible/immortal/a sanctimonious prick/even more of a mouthpiece then she already was, the other went on to become the undisputed head of an enemy who went full throttle on genocide, slavery, and war crimes. Mace's treatment and Yaddle's treatment was more poorly veiled racism and even more poorly veiled Jedi hate. And of course, the super special training from Anakin that allowed Ahsoka to survive Order 66 unlike those useless unprepared Jedi who were too soft on their kids - but really just made him look like an incredibly abusive parent. Frankly, while I do hate Anakin and can see him pushing too hard as in character, even I can see that it could have been written a lot better than it was. Tales of the Jedi was a fucking joke because it should have been titled 'Tales of The Super Special Creators Pet OC and the Asshole Who Falls And Spearheads A War', and if we ever get Jedi content that is actually positive for them without the usual criticisms coming up (Kenobi's the only one so far that's come the closest) I'll be throwing a fucking party.
-Of course, I have to point out TBB's whitewashing, consistently carried over from TCW except even whiter, though I forgot to mention how that show just completely fucking forgot the Jedi existed. Though frankly, I wouldn't want them to be mentioned in the utter waste of time that TBB is.
-Ahsoka was made into even more of a mouthpiece in her show then she already was. I didn't even watch Rebels in its entirety because I don't care for it, but even with some of the more frustrating decisions with her in that span of time she never said the Order wouldn't have fallen if they had just brought in more non-Force Sensitives to train them into being Force Sensitive (another part of canon that Filoni has fucking taken a hammer to) singing Anakin's praises after she's 'saved' by him (though even in Rebels it got pretty egregious how she just fucking abandons the Rebellion and the Jedi because she won't leave him again) just being a general fandom anti on how the Order was at fault for everything and Anakin was actually predestined to become a Sith (instead of defying his destiny by attacking Mace and siding with Palpatine as per Word of God) so everything he did was justified. All written and directed by Filoni, just as the other pieces where he's had narrative control will label the Jedi as arrogant, as forgetful, as unworthy, as not ENOUGH. And as soon as he can, he shoves them aside for characters who are 'to cool to be a Jedi, a cooler Jedi than those useless old Order jerks who spent too much time playing politics and being too stringent because they were cautious rule followers and not plucky rebels and weren't loving enough to poor widdle Anakin and -'
Though frankly my brother had some pretty ludicrous takes in general. There was this whole tangent we had about how since Rex removed his chip and voided death, that makes him gray/puts him in a gray zone. I just bluescreened at that, because while I've never cared for morally gray characters/storytelling, a character stepping out of their slated place in the narrative so obviously isn't gray it's not even funny, it's infuriating. While I know a part of me being a writer is what helps me look at stories more critically, it still makes me feel so confused how people will just take in bad writing or come up with bullshit takes like this. Whatever happened to thinking critically for the good of storytelling?
. . . I don't usually write my own posts (even though I'm usually better at wording things than actually voicing an argument as it started with my brother) because I prefer to just reblog stuff on my blog, I wrote this primarily as a vent post because my argument with my brother really got me stirred up, but I've been in a salty sw mood lately so it was kind of cathartic to get this out.
Also, if any Jedi anti or fan comes at me with 'but actually the Jedi should have -' no. Please just don't. I always try to tag stuff properly so people who won't agree will know what my blog themes are about, I'm never in the mood for the run of a mill gotcha takes that infest this fandom and I will not hesitate to block you if you come onto my post for that.

Welcome to another round of W2 Tells You What You Should See, where W2 (me) tries to sell you (you) on something you should be watching. Today's choice: 民国奇探/My Roommate is a Detective.
My Roommate is a Detective is a 2020 drama about the Jazz Age shenanigans of a terrible OT3: a useless noodle boy, a spoiled journalist girl, and a handsome thug-turned-cop, who together solve Agatha Christie mysteries in 1920s Shanghai.
I mean, seriously, have you ever wondered what Hercule Poirot would be like if he were a 6'2" Chinese rubber man? If he had a long-suffering sugar daddy from the wrong side of the tracks and a spunky sugar mommy who owned their shared apartment? The answer is, it would be a laugh-out-loud-funny series about a ridiculous and charming assortment of weirdos solving only slightly believable murder mysteries in charming period clothing.
This is another one of those shows where I'm kind of shocked at how not well-known it is, except I'm not, because I can see exactly the problems that keep fandom from descending on it like horny little vultures. Nonetheless, I think it's a good time that more people would enjoy if they gave it the chance. Here's five reasons why you should:
1. Equal parts smart as heck and dumb as butts
On the one hand, especially given its tone and tenor, this show has many surprisingly clever turns and thoughtful moments, carried along by some talented actors. On the other hand, [.gif of a guinea pig in a rollerskate being pushed merrily down a hallway]
This show is not a complicated intellectual exercise. It's an action comedy about a goofy sleuth, a rich-girl reporter, and the cop who should be the straight man in this trio, except he's as much of a goober as the other two are. If the promotional tableaus are giving you real "cover of a Clue box" vibes, you've understood the kind of pastiche it's pulling off.
The mysteries are preposterous. They're all the kind of thing that exemplify the Doyle line about how, when you've eliminated the impossible, whatever's left has got to be the answer, no matter how ding-dang improbable it may be. You know the type: tons of overly elaborate setups, unbelievably perfect timing, coincidental long-lost relatives, people hallucinating right and left. They're also very short -- most full cases take only 2-3 episodes to introduce, investigate, and resolve, even when interspersed with the larger goings-on in these weirdos' lives. The DramaWiki page for the show lists 23 separate arcs over 36 episodes, so you do the math.
And yet, it's way more thoughtful and clever than its doofy little setup would indicate. Its attention to detail surprised me on more than one occasion. Add to that a bunch of solid performances from an ensemble of real characters, and what you get is definitely more substantive than a junk-food waste of time. You can't turn your brain off while watching it, but you sure can turn it down, and that's great.
It also doesn't hurt that everyone is super attractive and wearing great outfits. The whole show's worth it for the wardrobes.
2. THE GIRL
Fuck the haters, fuck everyone, I am going to climb right up on my little soapbox and tell you all why Bai Youning is awesome.
She is insane. She's a troll. She's a clever little monster. Every other character's response to her is, oh my god, you are literally the worst. And she is! She has been spoiled beyond belief by her incredibly rich Crime Dad, and she has learned to leverage her uwu just a widdle girl status to get her whatever the hell she wants. She simply cannot hear it when someone says the word "no." She will look her future sister-in-law in the eye and point a loaded gun at her own head without blinking. Every ball she has is made of brass.
She's hardly perfect. During the course of the show, there are some times where her entitlement runs face-first into the brick wall of reality. She's not nearly as good at her chosen career path as she's been told (mostly by the people who get paid to tell her she's good). She's rarely prepared to deal with the consequences of her actions, especially when she can't just throw money at the problem.
So she learns, and grows, and changes. She's always going to be a stubborn bitch, but she can become a stubborn bitch with a more accurate conception of her relationship to the world around her.
She's actually a really good romantic foil for Lu Yao, who is equally stubborn and spoiled and obnoxious as hell. It is a pure brat4brat relationship, where each one thrives on comically enraging the other. What this means, though, is that when they actually start showing one another some vulnerability, it's really sweet.
Now: I'm pretty sure that you could not have made a female character in her position that everyone did not hate, no matter how cool you made her, because that is the fate of all girls who theoretically keep the two boys from kissing. (More on that next point.) If she were less outgoing and friendly, she would've been hated for being too cold. If she were less headstrong, she would've been hated for being a pushover. If she weren't as into the boy, she would've been hated for being frigid. I know the "god forbid a woman do anything" meme is a joke, but ... man, god forbid this girl do anything. She gets a level of hate entirely disproportionate to what she's actually like. As I said with Eom Dada, it's not always sexism, but sometimes, yeah, it's sexism.
(Real talk: Her character is also fighting both how she's definitely not written as well as the boys are and how the plot sometimes needs her to be artificially stupid and jealous for Straightness Drama Reasons, so that's a legit problem on a structural level. Also, she's dubbed by someone else and the boys aren't, which gives her voice an annoying not-quite-there quality that's hard to ignore. The deck is stacked against her real hard even before she steps onscreen.)
So here's my advice: Go into this show wanting to like her. Embrace her terribleness as a positive, intentional quality. Don't be mad at her for straightening up an endgame that was never going to be gay, even without her. Welcome her contributions to the chaos. Realize that she is exactly as entertainingly irritating as her boys are.
Truly, this is a story of three terrible people in love. They're all just awful, and you wouldn't want to be in a room with any of them for longer than you had to. Left to right up there, Bai Youning is spoiled and self-absorbed, Lu Yao is arrogant and lazy, and Qiao Chusheng is suuuuuch a fucking cop. If you're into the kind of dynamic that can only be described OT3: You All Deserve One Another, then this one's perfect for you.
3. Do you really miss '00s queerbaiting?
Like, really? Are you just super-nostalgic for being able to see the showrunners go, ha ha, girls, we know you're watching and we know you want these cute boys to kiss, which they never will -- but what if we pretended for just this one scene??? Do you just carnally ache for that with every fiber of your being?
Yep.
Now, why am I calling the occasional really gay moments between these two gentlemen "queerbaiting" and not "bromance"? Because these moments are a) obviously intentional, b) completely sporadic, and c) never spoken of again.
For example: There's a scene (which you can see a gifset of here) where the two of them are at a restaurant frequented by the cop, who brings a lot of ladies there on dates. When the waiter points this out, useless noodle boy says, I'm his date. The waiter looks mildly surprised by this, the cop says not to listen to his bullshit, and that's the end of it. The scene moves on. There is no further discussion of this comment. It does not affect their relationship.
That's the essence of queerbaiting: that little on-purpose nod to the homoerotic tension between the two, in a way that isn't a joke but also isn't not a joke, and either way is never going to happen. (In fact, the show is going to go out of its way to make sure that ship gets sunk, so, uh, get your fanfiction lifeboats ready for that.)
A true queerbaiting move is something that should make a difference in a relationship, but doesn't. It should make a difference that our cop is so comfortable in the noodle boy's personal space that he invades it at will. It doesn't. It should make a difference that noodle boy keeps getting real weird every time the cop has a date with a girl. It doesn't. Those are some real romantic moves the two of them keep pulling, and then nothing comes of them.
I had this show sold to me as being incredibly shippy, to the point of being even more so than its censored-BL contemporaries. And ... well, it is and it isn't. It has textually gayer individual moments, but it is much less pervasively gay. It's clear from the start that it's going to throw all its actual relationship points into its canon het romance. When it comes to these boys, the show is toying with you. It knows you want to see those boys smooch, just as much as it knows (and it knows you know) they're never gonna.
How you feel about this is entirely up to you -- and indeed, it may be a dealbreaker on the whole drama for you. If you are inclined to pitch a fit when your ship does not become canon, you'll be happier somewhere else. If, however, you see this as a delightful opportunity to do whatever the hell you want with the situation as it is presented, all the while enjoying little moments of startlingly blatant homoeroticism between two handsome dudes, well, here you are!
(I mean, if you want my take on it, what needs to happen is that the cop and the girl need to fuck while the useless noodle boy watches with asexual bisexual interest, and then they all need to snuggle with the noodle boy in the middle so they can both annoy him appropriately, but your mileage may vary.)
4. The multicultural extravaganza!
1920s Shanghai had a lot going on in terms of cultures and languages, and this show actually does a fair job of representing that.
By now, I've seen a number of shows set during this era, and they all at least acknowledge the international nature of the city -- usually by mentioning the French Concession and having a handful of evil Japanese characters. However, this is the first time I've seen a show go to such lengths to actually show so many non-Chinese characters onscreen, even to the point of making one a recurring character supporting the main squad.
Salim is the best. Whatever he is being paid, it's not enough. He's Qiao Chusheng's right-hand man, which means he is also the dude who most often has to put up the main trio's bullshit. (The actor himself is also a dude with a pretty cool backstory, which is another great layer.) He's sharp, he's loyal, he's patient, and he looks great with his shirt off. He's got it all!
Other non-Chinese characters include a white Jewish art collector (I'd issue a warning for period-typical antisemitism, except … honestly, it's mostly just confused), a sadistic priest who maybe is supposed to be Italian, a completely different priest who [last episode spoiler], and three whole sinister white dudes behind it all.
It's not just the world coming to China, though! A large number of the Chinese characters are said to have spent significant time outside of China, whether for business or for schooling. Near the end, when some characters are discussing moving away from Shanghai, they consider a number of foreign cities as potential destinations.
Here's a delightful detail: When Lu Yao and his sister speak English, they're dubbed by actors with posh British accents who sound like native (or near-native) English-speakers. This makes perfect sense, because both of the siblings did a lot of their schooling in the UK. When Bai Youning speaks English, she's dubbed by someone who speaks English very well but also has a noticeable Chinese accent, which makes perfect sense for her character's background. And Qiao Chusheng never speaks English at all, because he's a street tough who has no reason to know more than three words.
...This is also kind of weird to say about something literally made in China, but go with me on it: Everything's kind of got that Art Deco Orientalist vibe to it. It looks like China's idea of what Britain's idea of China during that period would have looked like. The result comes across less like what 1920s Shanghai would actually have looked like, and more what an ad for 1920s Shanghai would have looked like. It's a fascinating aesthetic, and more so for how it's mostly pretty subtle. The show isn't some visual extravaganza, but it's always very nice to look at, and I appreciate that in a show.
5. A wonderful horrible protagonist
A lot of mystery-themed prestige television involves an asshole genius detective who gets away with being a dick to everyone because he's sooooo smart, while all his long-suffering friends and colleagues spend a lot of time doing damage control for him because, sigh, he's an asshole but we need him, genius excuses all dickhead behavior, we'll always make exceptions for him because he's just ever so special. (Watch histrionic sage hbomberguy's video on Sherlock if you're unfamiliar with the trope.)
Lu Yao is an asshole genius detective, but one who winds up spending most of his time being an asshole to a) people who deserve it, or b) his horrible friends who will be assholes right back at him. When he is awful to the people who don't deserve it, the show smacks him pretty hard on the nose for it and makes him apologize.
This is a show where you'll figure out pretty quckly if you'll love it or hate it, because if you love Lu Yao, you'll love it, and vice versa. He carries most of the show himself, with his goofy charm and his incredibly bendy slenderman body and his ability to make the one competent person he knows both protect him and give him money.
Like so.
For my own part, I find him intensely charming, and I think a lot of this has to do with Hu Yitian's ability to play him as an affectionately bullyable weenie who needs to get shoved in a locker for his own good. He's the worst, and it's comically endearing instead of offputting because at the end of the day, he really does have a good heart. He's just also lazy as heck and disinclined to do anything that he does not want to be doing, and really, aren't we all?
As I alluded to in point 3, he comes across as real asexual. He's just not that interested in sex, and he is in fact pretty uncomfortable in situations where he finds himself the subject of someone else's sexual desires. He's perfectly capable of romantic feelings! I mean, not only does he get Bai Youning as a love interest, we actually meet one of his ex-girlfriends. He's just not partciularly horny about them -- which is even more noticeable as a sharp contrast to how extremely horny Qiao Chusheng is for just about everyone, but this exasperating little dork in particular.
(Like seriously, 90% of the time, Chusheng is about to explode with sexual frustration at Lu Yao's skinny oblivious ass.)
This isn't to say you couldn't get Lu Yao into bed, because you absolutely could, and he'd probably have a good time. You'd just have to remove all distractions from the room, lest his ADHD ass wind up running off to solve a crime mid-coitus.
Twiggy little nightmare man. Garbage-animal boy. Love him.
sidebar: A word about the ending
I'm going to be vague and talk about general vibes instead of specific events, but you should still skip this section if you want to remain completely unspoiled. Jump to the picture of Chusheng holding the sledgehammer.
Okay, so, a lot of people do not like the ending, and I'm including myself in that number. I honestly don't know if they got rushed and had to wrap everything pretty last-minute, or if they thought they might get a second season out of it and were leaving things open-ended accordingly. Either way, it's incredibly unsatisfying.
I think there's a clue that the show didn't actually want to end this way, and it's not actually in the text of the show itself. Every episode, between the last scene and the start of the credits, you get to see a couple still frames from the episode (usually some of the queerbaity ones). After the very final shot of the series, you get two images: the boys hugging goodbye, and Chusheng's upset face. That's not a resolution! That is at best a "to be continued..." ending!
But no, that's it. That's all, folks.
It's not quite an ending so bad it ruins the rest of the show, mostly because it doesn't feel finished, so it's less like you're watching a car being deliberately driven into a wall because someone thought that was the best route to take, and more like you're watching someone leave a car on the railroad tracks because they figured they'd have time to move it later.
As far as I know, there has been no noise made about a second season. These 36 episodes are the entirety of the narrative. It had the distinct misfortune to start airing in March 2020, which wasn't exactly prime time for planning sequels, and that seems to have been that. (There is a 2022 show called Checkmate that stars the two main guys in extremely similar roles, also adapting Agatha Christie stories, but it's apparently pretty meh? Somebody else who's actually seen it, go ahead and weigh in here.)
I'll say that if you turn off the episode right after Lu Yao gets out the handcuffs, you'll save yourself the worst of it the awkward and unsatisfying moments (though I'm impressed at your willpower to stop watching something five minutes from the end). That's not all of it, though. Structurally, there are several situations rushed to a resolution and loose threads left flapping untied in the breeze. I guess stopping before the last five minutes simply saves you the hope that it'll pull a good ending out of the fire, because it won't.
And let's be real: The more you hate Bai Youning and her romance with Lu Yao, the more you'll hate the ending. (Not that liking those elements will necessarily make you like the ending, of course, because I'm a fan of hers and I still think the ending is butts.) The ending is already like a pair of uncomfortable shoes; if the het romance especially makes you grind your teeth, the ending becomes a pair of uncomfortable shoes that also have a rock in them. A lot of the comments online indicate plenty of people dropped the show when they learned the het romance would be endgame. It's a pretty common dealbreaker.
Oh well. Bring on the fanfic, I say! Those of us who are used to taking a sledgehammer to canon are unafraid.
Smash it, baby.

It's not a perfect show -- as evidenced by my digression about the ending -- but it's a lot of fun. If you can handle the occasional foible and some eyebrow-raising moments, you're in for a good time with some attractive people that occasionally tastes very gay.

❅ Sand and Snow | Chapter 4
ALL CHAPTERS HERE | PREVIOUS CHAPTER HERE.
In the city of Odate, Akita, there have been multiple deaths in the past few weeks. The first-grade sorcerer Nanami Kento is sent out to investigate the snowy city, not knowing that it would be his last mission as a Jujutsu High student.

Gojo and Nanami shenanigans ensue. They find out more about the Yamadas.
WC: 3.4K | on AO3 here.
The curse-user had claimed yet another victim, 28-year-old woman Takahashi Mio. Given that the killings were timely spread apart, Gojo and Nanami decided it was best if they went alone to investigate this latest death. Gojo provided Shiori with his burner phone number, just in case.
"So, Nanami, could you get me up to speed on what is going on?" Gojo asked.
"Didn't you speak to Yaga principal? I've been giving him daily reports."
"No."
How could the supposedly strongest jujutsu sorcerer of our age not get any information about the mission before he got here? Gojo's irresponsibility was particularly bothersome for Nanami most of the time.
"And did you talk to Ijichi?"
"Oh, that I certainly did! Before yesterday, actually!"
Nanami remembered Ijichi's demeanor on the phone. "Well, did you threaten him in any way?" He asked.
"I strongly suggested he didn't report his findings to you on Jujutsu High's phone anymore." Gojo grinned.
Earlier that day, when they were at Shiori's house, Ijichi relayed to Nanami all of his findings about the Yamada family. Obtaining this information was particularly difficult, because Jujutsu High's archives that he could search did not offer a lot of information about the family, something that was unusual, so Ijichi faced a little more digging around than he was accustomed to.
Gojo helped (with a healthy dose of strong encouragement called "try to look in forbidden or somewhat classified archives" right before he left).
According to Ijichi, the Yamadas did not have the best relationship with the Jujutsu Society established by Tengen and frequented by the clans. The Yamadas didn't even consider themselves as a clan, given they wouldn't keep most of their jujutsu traditions or preserve their name during the centuries, and started to spread as non-sorcerers throughout Japan, while most of them stayed within Akita's prefecture. Those that remained were mostly the ones born jujutsu sorcerers.
It seemed that the main reason the Yamadas and Jujutsu Society did not get along was because Yamadas never surrendered their cursed objects or tools to them for safe keeping. There was one object worth noting, specifically, that the Jujutsu Society was keen on having, as it involved the ability to guard cursed objects, tools, and nearly anything with cursed energy above a certain threshold in a very convoluted way. Ijichi didn't quite find what it was, unfortunately, and questioning Shiori served little to no purpose for that matter.
Nanami was starting to suspect Shiori might've been withholding information.
And about her parents, they were apparently the most well respected members of the family up until their disappearance, serving as the informal leaders of the Yamadas. They had twins, Shiori and Shiro, both born with the ability to see curses and manipulate cursed energy.
"Could this object be like Toji's cursed spirit? The one that kept his arsenal?"
Gojo went silent for a moment. "Yes."
Even though Gojo's silence was usually something Nanami longed for during most of their interchanges, this was actually sorrowful. He felt bad for Satoru and the memories that might've evoked.
"So, we are working with the hypothesis that this is a mission for retrieving cursed objects, and not actually exorcizing anything or capturing anyone?" Nanami said.
"No!" Gojo promptly answered. "Nanamin, quiz time!"
"You don't know anything about quizzes." This roundabout way Satoru had of getting his points across was incredibly obnoxious. Nanami wasn't feeling so empathetic anymore.
"What were we sent to do in Odate?" Gojo asked, with a child-like smile on his face.
"What I was sent to do while you were unavailable was to investigate these deaths and deal with what was causing them."
"Correct! We were sent to do just that!"
Nanami sighed. "Ok."
"Next question: what is the probable cause of these deaths?"
Nanami was questioning if this was actually leading anywhere.
"A curse user, most likely."
"Correct again!" Satoru responded like he was in a trivia TV show.
Nanami put his fingers in between his eyes, fighting an emerging headache as they walked in the streets of Odate. "Can you please just say what you're thinking?"
"I'm teaching my underclassman!"
"I do not respect you as my upperclassman."
"I need to train my teaching skills!"
Nanami dreaded the image of Gojo Satoru being a teacher, as that implied he'd be the most responsible person in the room — that room being a classroom.
Gojo proceeded, "We're here to capture a curse user and take him in for questioning, preferably. What does that tell you about what Jujutsu High wants from us?"
That they want us to take this curse user to them, who probably knows how to find the actual object of their interest, Nanami completed in his head.
"I see your point. What is your plan, then?" Nanami asked Gojo.
Some girls were walking by and started commenting on "the tall guy with white hair". Gojo lowered his glasses and winked. The girls went mad. One of them fainted. Nanami sighed heavily.
"We get to that object first and retrieve that. I'd like to know what it is and how it works. Information is important, you know?" He answered, pushing his pitch black glasses back into position.
Gojo seemed like an uninterested idiot at times, yet he was definitely not dumb, nor easily manipulated by Jujutsu High's leadership.
"Hey, Nanamin!"
"Stop calling me that."
"We should go eat after we finish this, I heard they have the best Kiritanpo here in Odate!"
Nanami sighed, yet again, for Gojo had started with his foodie shenanigans. At least the cold breeze helped with the headache.
As they approached the scene, the same hectic scenery ensued. The building was surrounded by curious people, some news reporters, and the entrance had police tape around it.
"Gojo, we should check the perimeter first. Last time this happened, the curse user got away from me."
"Sure. I teleport myself in, and you go and do your checking."
It actually was a good plan.
"Fine." Before Nanami finished the word, Satoru had already vanished. He then started walking around the building to look for any suspicious activity, or even the motorcycle. There was not much going on other than what he had seen already, and no trace of cursed activity on the outside, so he decided he would simply wait around and see what Gojo found.
However, as he was about to just sit and wait, he saw something. Haru, that fox from the first day, was right on the other side of the street, looking at the apartment complex.
What is going on?
Nanami started walking towards the animal, but as soon as Haru saw him, it just bolted away. Given that it was not anything of importance, He decided to let it go and keep waiting for Gojo to come back.
"I'm done!" Satoru said, as he appeared back right beside Nanami. "Found some interesting things. Let's take a look."
First, he took out a small wooden box, just like the one that was in Nakamura's office. It had cursed energy traces all over it.
"I've seen one of those before, at the last murder scene." Nanami said.
"You have? Well, how about this?" Gojo said, as he took some papers out of his pocket. He figured that if the last victim was a Yamada that had changed his surname, this was also a possibility in this case. And he was right.
The high school conclusion certificate read Yamada Mio.
"This is concerning".
"Definitely." Gojo responded. He then took his burner phone and called Ijichi. "Ijichi, we have a request. Search all the victims, see if they've changed their names and were previously Yamadas. Also, please, check similar death's throughout Japan in the past few months."
"Last three months." Nanami said.
Gojo looked at him. "Last three months" he said before hanging up. "Why that time frame?" He asked, looking straight at Nanami.
"Come. Let's have lunch. I'll fill you in."
***
"So, this lady is pretty sus, huh?" Gojo said, as he had three kiritanpo rice sticks stuffed in his mouth.
"She doesn't seem like a bad person." Nanami responded.
Gojo thought about it. "You're usually not a bad judge of character" he said, as he pulled the three sticks out of his mouth at the same time, completely scraped clean and started talking with his mouth full. "But someone can be a good person and still do bad things. People find all sorts of justifications for their shit." He wasn't wrong.
"There are some things that are not adding up." Nanami pondered.
"What about this brother? Have they not contacted the police or anything about his disappearance?" Gojo grabbed three rice sticks simultaneously.
"Apparently, they haven't. But that could be explained by the fact that he probably would be dealing with cursed spirits involved in their parents’ disappearance. His sister seemed aware of that possibility." Nanami grabbed a single rice stick and started eating at a normal rate.
"I see." Gojo responded with his mouthful of rice. "Hey, Nanami..." his tone shifted to a more serious one. Nanami noticed it.
"What?"
"How is this mission working out for you?" He lowered his glasses so he could look directly into Nanami's eyes as he waited for a response.
Nanami contemplated if he really had an answer for that question, as he started to speak without really knowing what would come out of his mouth. "At first, it was angering to see they'd put me up for another mission that seemed above my capacities." He meditated for a moment. "But I'm fine now. I simply want to finish this mission. Why?"
Gojo smiled. "Nothing. It's nice to see you still have a good head on your shoulders." He said, giving Nanami a little tap on his back as he got up. "Well, let's detective Conan this!"
Satoru was back to using references. Nanami was not pleased.
Gojo's phone rang, and he picked it up. It was Ijichi. Satoru's demeanor went from playful to serious, as he said, "ok. Thanks for letting me know." and ended the call. "We have to go back to that house now."
"Why is that?" Nanami asked.
"All the victims were Yamadas". Gojo answered, as he put his phone away. "If my thinking is right..."
"She could actually be the next target."
***
As they got back to the house, the sky grew grayer. The sun was about to set, and they knew they had to question Shiori for real this time. Nanami knocked on the door, but before Shiori could open it after unlocking, Gojo just barged in screaming Good evening!
"Hey, guys! You're back." She said, greeting them with a smile and feeling startled as a giant dude with white hair had just let himself into her house unceremoniously.
"We are." Nanami responded. "And we have some questions for you."
Shiori looked at him somewhat confused. "Let me just feed Haru."
Gojo looked at her confused.
"It's a fox, I feed it sometimes." She clarified.
"Oh."
After Shiori went outside with a bowl of food for the animal, she walked back into the living room, where they were waiting for her. "Well, ok. What would you like to know?"
"Firstly, what you really might know about all these deaths." He answered, bluntly.
She sighed, resigned. "You said something about a venomous shikigami, haven't you? Well, I know something about that."
"What do you know?" He asked. Gojo was just standing in the corner of the room, watching the conversation.
"I know there is a shikigami technique that runs in my family, one where we can summon poisonous creatures. Most of us summoned flying snakes. Some curse users in my family might be the culprit."
"Why didn't you tell me this earlier?" Nanami asked.
"I... I don't know." Shiori said as she sat down on a chair, feeling embarrassed. "I've never really been able to trust or rely on anyone other than my brother. And I barely know you!" she said, looking at him. "And we kind of met when you were being a creepy stalker and I had a gun."
"Please, stop saying that." Nanami replied while he sighed.
"Stalker? Gun? What?" Gojo asked, seemingly puzzled.
"And you're from Jujutsu High, on top of it all. I don't know if you're both aware of that, but my family never got along very well with you guys. I never had much of a reason to trust anything you told me." She said.
Nanami stood silent. After all, she wasn't exactly wrong.
Shiori looked at Gojo. "Can you imagine if you came into my house and I said, 'hey, one of my relatives might be the murderer?' What would you do to me, then?" She sighed. "And to be fair, I still don't trust you both completely. So, yeah. What else would you like to know?"
"Is there any special cursed object in your family?" Nanami asked.
"... Why do you want to know that?" She retorted.
The answer was clearly yes. "These killings might be related to it." Gojo answered from across the room. "The murderer is collecting cursed objects at the crime scenes and leaving these behind." Gojo showed her one of the wooden boxes.
"Oh, I see."
"Do you know what these are?" He asked.
"Yes."
They were all silent for some time.
"Will you tell us what they are?" Gojo replied.
"No."
Gojo wanted to smack her.
"And you both are 'good guys', I can tell that much. You won't beat me up for information."
She was right. He still wanted to smack her.
"You should know that all the victims were Yamadas." Nanami said. "You could very well be the next target."
She was taken aback. "All of them?"
"All of them." Gojo said, trying to sway her stance from that bit of information.
She considered her options for a moment. "Shit." If she gave them the entire information, they would probably catch the culprit and just leave. She wouldn't be in danger's way anymore, but would probably have to surrender things her parents left her to Jujutsu High. On top of that, her brother was still missing, and after learning that Yamadas were dying left and right, he could possibly be in danger. There was another option.
"Well, that's life. I can die in my sleep." She shrugged. "But I do have valuable information. I just need you to help me with something first." Shiori said.
"What?" Nanami asked.
"Help me find my brother." These guys, while a dynamic team themselves, were clearly good at their jobs, and she could sense that Gojo was a particularly powerful sorcerer. She knew this was the best — and, maybe, only — bet at finding her missing brother.
We just got side-quested, Gojo thought, as he groaned and made his way into the kitchen. He hated being pulled into situations he couldn't simply solve by using his powers and beating or exploding things. "Are there any cookies left?"
"Can you both help me find my brother? Please?" She asked, worriedly waiting for an answer.
Nanami and Gojo said "yes" at the same time. Both of them sounded defeated.
"Fine. Then let's get talking. We need to find the remaining Yamadas in town. As much as I want to find my brother, I don't want anybody to die because of that." Shiori said. "There were 9 deaths, right?"
"There were 12, actually." Nanami replied.
"What?" She was very surprised. "What do you mean by twelve deaths?"
"They happened in other cities, with the same M.O." Gojo responded from the kitchen. He sounded like he was munching on something.
"And they were all Yamadas?" She said.
"Yes."
"Well, I need their names, right now." She opened a drawer and grabbed a key. "Come, follow me, you two."
They all went upstairs, following Shiori's lead. She then went inside the main bedroom, which was a little unkempt, and seemed unused for a while now. "Now, where was it...?" She started stomping on the ground, until they heard a hollow board. "Here!" Pulling it up, the woman grabbed a chest and opened it. Inside it, there was a small black notebook.
Before she could do anything, Gojo grabbed the notebook.
"What the hell?!" She yelled, surprised. Damn, he's fast.
"We need to be absolutely certain you're not withholding important information again." He opened it. There was a huge list of names. The pages were yellowy, and the small notebook seemed pretty old. "What is this?"
"The list of people that might be targets, from what you both have told me. Flip to the last pages, the most recent ones are there."
He did, and instantly read many familiar names under those that were already struck out. Nanami approached and looked at the notebook too. The name "Yamada Itsuki" popped out.
"Your mother's name is here." He said.
"I know. Let's cross out that, and also everyone that has died. Whoever doesn't have their names crossed will be the next targets."
"And how do you know that?" Gojo asked.
"I just do. You told me that people were dying and getting cursed objects stolen from that box, right?" They stayed silent. "So I'm sure that list is what we need. People usually just change their surnames, and keep their first names. This should be easy enough."
Nanami and Gojo asked Ijichi to send them the list of all the deceased's names, and after striking out those, there were only 2 names left. Miyuki Yamada and Ayako Yamada. They relayed that information to Ijichi and asked him to search for residents in Odate that went by the names Miyuki and Ayako, who were or had been married.
"Well, now we wait." Gojo said, sitting down and resting his face on his hand.
"I guess." Shiori replied, while her mood shifted. "I'll be going downstairs for now."
She did, while Gojo and Nanami shared a look. Gojo's look meant, what do you think? Nanami said nothing and followed Shiori downstairs. She was sitting at the table, looking very upset and poorly hiding it. Nanami sat beside her and waited to see if she would say anything.
"I just realized something because I'm an idiot, and I'm very angry at myself right now." She said. "If I had trusted you, even if you took me away for questioning or to Jujutsu High, or something else, that woman might still be alive if I helped sooner." Shiori clenched her fists. "I'm such an egotistical idiot."
Nanami realized she was truly saddened and furious at herself because of that.
"You only knew where to look after we told you about the cursed objects being stolen. There was nothing you could have done." Nanami replied.
Shiori looked at him and sighed. "Thank you."
"I just stated a fact." He said.
She smiled, still somewhat upset. "Yeah. I guess so. I was just scared that-" She choked up a little. "That I wouldn't be here for when my brother came back, whenever that happens."
"How do you know if he is still alive?" Nanami asked bluntly.
"Well, you're kind of abrasive sometimes." She replied, smiling. "I just do. I can't explain it to you factually. It's a twin thing. I know he is alive, I'm completely sure."
He wasn't going to question it. As a jujutsu sorcerer, he sure had seen weirder things.
"I want to help when you guys go save those two women." Shiori said, out of the blue.
"You will hinder us. You have no combat training." Nanami pointed out.
"Well, you will follow us no matter what we say, won't you? Just like you did today." Gojo said, as he came down the stairs.
How did he know that? And was he hearing our conversation all this time? "Yes, I will. Exactly like I did today." She answered frankly. There was no point in lying.
"We're not carrying dead weight, and we won't jeopardize this, because people might actually die. Do you understand?" He asked, staring at her. His tone was serious. She felt like he could see through her soul, and it sent shivers down her spine.
The way this man shifts between 'pretty boy' silly demeanor and this menacing aura is eerie, she thought. "I understand. I don't want to put myself or other people in harm's way anymore, but I still want to help."
"Fine. Then, show me what you've got." He said, hiding his eyes back behind his glasses and grinning widely.
End notes:
I started to go down that path where I'm hating everything I write, so it took me forever to be done meddling with this chapter before posting it. Ugh I hate when this happens (hope you enjoyed it, still).

Attention Grabber
Seth Borden x Reader
Sam, Colby, Nate, Seth and Reader are doing an investigation. What happens when the Reader faints by Seth?
Content: established relationship between Reader and Seth, mentions of murder, evil beings, harm to people, sickly but mostly fluff for Seth.
If any of these things mentioned above makes you feel bad or something along those lines, please click away
Sam, Colby, Nate, Seth and I walked around the Villisca Ace Murder House before Sam and Colby started their video. The house had a very dark entity and it did well to make itself known. Even during just the tours during the day the guide explained that people would get scratched, pulled and sick.
"When we initially walked into the house I was like okay it's creepy in here, little spooky but I'm fine. When we went upstairs, it wasn't when we went into the parents room, it's when we walked into the kids room, I felt the same feeling in my back that I felt when I had that experience at the seance at the conjuring house when I got an attachment. When a spirit is trying to attach itself to you it starts by making like a back pain in the bottom of your spine and it goes all the way up. That's legit what I felt and I just felt that same thing upstairs." Seth begins their video by explaining how he felt during the tour.
"That's crazy because I noticed the shadows around you but didn't say anything because they didn't seem ill intentioned. There were three around us in the kids room and were trying to play. I don't necessarily think that they were trying to attach themselves per say but they did look very curious." I told the boys what I saw when we were touring. They all looked a little scared when I was finished but they nervously laughed it off. I thought it was hilarious because the kid spirits were super friendly. Yes they had a bit of sadness and anger but they were residual emotions from the murder.
"I definitely felt like how I did during the conjuring house." Colby added onto what Seth told us.
"To be quite honest when I was like alright we're gonna go to these haunted houses, alright, but compared to like Hell Week we're chilling. After all of these stories and interviews we've done today I'm like thinking this might be one of the more scary places we've actually been to" Sam confessed to us.
"Seriously it feels like it too." Colby responded.
"This feels like you walk into the room and there is a psychic oppression. I noticed (y/n)s shift of mood really quick." Nate noted. I got nervous for a second because I hadn't even realized I did that.
" I'm not trying to hype this place up for the camera. I'm being so serious right now, like I have not felt that feeling since I had thy experience. " Seth chimed in. Reconfirming that this house was full of bitter emotions.
"He said that this house was actually known for physical touch, scratches and things happening. Most paranormal occurrences are like sounds or like you see apparitions. This is physical it's different." Sam pointed out. He was right. Most paranormal occurrences don't result in poltergeist activity.
"Oh and what's freaky is its not even the axe murder that's freaky. It's the fact that there's an energy that's been here for a long time. But that entity is still here. So that technically means that the murder is still here. " Nate pointed out.
"You guys all have great points. Now let's see if we can get anything. But we have to remember, we were told that this entity, spirit, being, whatever you may call it. It is a trickster. We may not come to the official conclusion like we hope. " I commented. The boys all agreed but we are all in the best spirits to keep hope that we can help shed some bit of light on the story.
Time skip to after the attic Estes Method
"That was crazy. I feel like it's still with us. Maybe we should try to go down to the guest room to do another one. I feel sick being up here. Something definitely wants us to leave." I proposed. The boys agreed luckily and we left the attic. I was feeling dizzy. "I think I am gonna get sick. I need to sit." I announced. Seth looked very concerned. I grabbed ahold of his hand and sat down. I was about to talk about how I wanted to just leave because something wasn't right when the music box started going off. I stood up really quick because I was sitting right by it.
"It's like something was waiting for us to come down here. I feel genuinely sick being in this room. " Seth muttered.
"I agree. But I think it wanted us to retrace its steps. I think it's playing with us again. " Sam frowned. He was right. I looked towards the door again. I could see the figure there. It was then that I got a throbbing head pain. Not quite like a headache. It was way worse. My vision went blurry and then eventually went black.
When I woke up I was confused. My head was in a lap and my hair was being played with. I turned onto my back and saw Seth smiling at me. He looked so cute.
"You fainted straight into my arms. You know, if you wanted my attention that bad you could have just asked for it, you didn't have to go to such extremes. " Seth smiled when I looked away blushing.
"I wasn't trying to faint but we do need to get out soon. Did you guys get anything when I was out?" I questioned trying to change the subject. The boys nodded.
"Yes. I don't think you'll believe this but it couldn't be the rival because he was out of town. If we are thinking logical then it was Paul because of the identical crime scenes. If we are thinking more spiritually then it is the reverend. When we did the Estes method, the answers it would give us were too perfect. It would give us a trail and then cut us off. " Nate indicated that the spirit continued to mess with them.
"In any case I think we should leave. I know that we technically haven't come to a conclusion but the ghost wants us gone and I have a feeling the next attack won't be as kind to you guys. " I voiced nervously. Seth helped me up and we gathered our equipment up.
"Hey (y/n) have you scratched your leg recently?" Colby inquired. I shook my head as I looked down. I had three long claw-like marks from the outside of my calf leading to the top of my shoe.
"Ya let's get out of here quickly. Thank you for communicating with us but you may not follow us. You may not attach yourself to us. You have to stay here. " I headed towards the door and the boys followed me. "Thank you again Seth for helping me. I appreciate it." I confessed to him.
"It's honestly not a problem. I didn't want to see you get hurt. " he leaned down and kissed me.
"Awe what a cute way to end a horrifying video." Sam chuckled

so, I'm thinking a teensy bit more about character death and, specifically, the death of a main character in a comedy show that I'm actually okay with. I'm talking about Death in Paradise.
Just as a primer for people who weren't raised by teaboos, it's a murder mystery comedy show, the premise of which is that there is one white British detective inspector guy who solves murders with his group of local cops: basically Midsomer Murders but on a fictional Caribbean island.
The comedy is always that he's some kind of socially awkward nerd who clashes in some way with his otherwise-entirely-Caribbean office, especially his black female second-in-command, even though they've at this point had four different DIs and I don't know how many changes of supporting characters.
The first two seasons, with DI Richard Poole, are your typical cozy murder-of-the-week-type mysteries. And then the third season starts, and the first mystery of the season is who killed DI Poole.
Like, it literally opens exactly like a normal episode, with a cold open establishing the suspects and showing us the murder victim before cutting to the jaunty theme tune and opening credits. It's just that this particular murder victim is the main character.
And then the plot progresses in exactly the same way, with a different white British nerd guy leading the investigation, because THE PROTAGONIST FOR THE PAST SIXTEEN EPISODES IS DEAD.
Now, some key differences between this show and OFMD:
It's a murder mystery show, so the rules are inherently different. No Muppet physics here: people die all the time and they die in totally normal ways, like getting stabbed with an ice pick or drowned in a fish tank or turned into a science class skeleton.
While this was the first time a main character was killed off, it was not the first time the DI had been killed. The pilot had Richard solving the murder of the previous DI, only for it to be revealed that his black female second-in-command of that episode was the murderer (Camille Bordey, his actual #2, isn't assigned to him until the very end of that episode). Like, shocking twists about characters you thought were "safe" was established in the very first episode.
The death actually affected the fucking characters and the fucking plot.
It's been like ten years since this episode aired and I still really like this episode, even though it gutted me the first time I watched it (and I don't like the later seasons nearly as much). Like, it's not my favorite (that's 2x06), but it's definitely in my top three. Because even though this is the episode they killed off DI Blorbo From My Britbox, it's also an episode about him.
The comedy is toned way down because the entire office is gutted by his loss. They have to do mundane things like call his parents to tell them he died and review CCTV footage and wait for lab data like it's just a normal case when it's not. At every step, there's a "what would Richard have done?" moment. And even though this is the episode that introduces the new DI, Humphrey Goodman, the summation at the end is entirely about Richard, with this pretty sweet line:
You know, bizarrely, I'm the only one who never met Richard Poole. But during this case, I… I feel as though I've got to know him a little. Mostly by the effect he had on those around him. But it seems we all forgot one very crucial thing: he was a detective. A good one. I think he made a discovery, had a theory about what he discovered, and then sent home for evidence to corroborate that theory. And in doing so, he has, in essence, solved his own murder.
His presence is felt throughout the entire episode, even though he's only alive for the first three minutes or so. His death is disappointing (especially for those of us who shipped him with Camille), but it actually has an impact.
So when they brought back Camille in S10, years after she was written out, they also brought back Richard: Camille imagines having a conversation with him when she’s worried that her mother is going to die, and he gives her advice and comforts her. And that scene makes me cry every time I watch it, because it's clear that she misses him as much as the audience does.
We didn't get that in OFMD. We didn't get an acknowledgement of how Izzy impacted the other characters (except Ed, in the weakest way possible), or even them looking sad for longer than two minutes. We sweep past it immediately and go directly to a wedding and then Stede and Ed settling down together.
There’s no gravity to it. There’s no time to process the loss. Hell, for the characters, there ISN’T a real loss. And if the characters don’t care, why should we?

Ask Game: Manuel brutally but accidentally kills All For One for good.
You have clocked my niche perfectly
1- "how the heck does that happen" well, during the Hosu chaos when it's all going very badly, another hero (mostly underestimating how much an asset Manual the Water Guy is at fighting fires) tells him to focus on finding his student and getting Izuku evacuated. Obviously Izuku will not evacuate, but he will get Manual to Tenya faster. So now there's two teenagers and the most chill pro hero in an alleyway fighting Stain, while Tomura and Kurogiri watch. And Tomura "fan of heroes with no merch" either recognizes Manual and knows he doesn't want to risk an actual pro ruining his fun with Stain, or doesn't recognize him and finds that even more suspicious as he has no clue what power level this npc is at. So while Manuel is trying to first aid Tenya and Native (oh yeah I guess there's a second pro in the alley too lol) while Izuku keeps Stain occupied and gets backup, he's also trying to figure out the Nomu thing. And then kurogiri appears, and Tenya yells because he recognizes him, but he can't move to shove Manual out of the way of the warp.
2- Manual is dropped in a very spooky lab with more nomu and some faceless creep on a throne. Manual does not judge the faceless thing, whatever some people look different. He does, however, Judge His Vibe. This guy clocked murderous intent from a teenager he barely saw on tv before it even happened, he Just Knows this guy is bad news. And in charge of the LoV, clearly, since Shigaraki didn't make sense as a leader and Stain just seemed mad about it. But Manual is also careful, and does not act on his vibe checks without further investigation. So he asks the suited creep "oh my god, are you the one that made the Nomu? Like the villain factory five years ago?" And AfO is just so pleased to be recognized as such a threat and confirms this, wondering what quirk he's about to steal from Manual.
And then Manual uses his quirk, and well, there's a lot of water in the Nomu labs. In the Nomu tanks. Running through the building, through AfO's medical equipment.
A lot of water.
3- Without the life-support equipment and half drowned, it is really really easy for Manual to hit him on the back of the head with a broken bit of pipe. This was not supposed to kill him- Manual saw a shape moving and thought it would not do much against a nomu, plus AfO is supposed to have a million quirks but- ah well. He's super dead now. And Manual is also surrounded by half finished nomu, also fairly dead now. And he's got to find the exit.
4- when Manual radios in that he's been warped under the Jakku hospital during the league attack in Hosu and he needs hero backup, now, he didn't expect all the backup he'd get. But all the heroes in Jakku were watching the news in Hosu and feeling useless, so they rush over and well. There's not much for them to do but cleanup nomu stuff and file reports. Manual appreciates the support anyway. And the blanket a nurse got him, and a coffee. And that everyone lets him focus on updates from Hosu, almost dropping his phone in relief that Stain has been taken in and the three -why are there three? There were two when he left!- teenagers are fine. The heroes offer to get him a ride to Hosu asap, but Manual stands up, pauses, and goes "wait, what about the mole? AfO had to have people working for him in this hospital to keep a lab like that under cover, right?"
5- with that terrifying thought, the Jakku heroes rush him out faster so they can figure that out, and Manual is on a train to Hosu. Once he gets closer to the city and two train switches later, he finds himself alone in the car with a tall, thin blond man. He knows the guy has to have some hero connection, because they were literally the only two people allowed on this train right now but he does not expect the guy to take a phone call, anxiously ask about a kid, get cut off, start swearing profusely in English, and then repeat "All For One? Are you sure????" about a dozen times before demanding around the clock watch until he can get there, and hanging up. The guy goes "Manual, huh?"
Manual looks up and answers, thinking he's being addressed, and the blond guy realizes it's him, and suddenly he's All Might and All Might is thanking Manual, bowing low. And that's just too much for Manual after the stressful week he's had. He passes out.

Tell us about your other Alenoaheather AU(s). I know you have them. 🔫
- Totally not Ophe
Hello completely random anon whose identity will forever be a mystery!
See, with the way you've phrased this, you've actually opened yourself up to a few options. I'll tell you a little bit about each one and you can tell me which one you want to learn more about first.
Currently unnamed G/T Alenoaheather
Definitely the most detailed AU of the bunch. It's got backstories and character arcs for each of the three. Probably the best way to describe it is Urban fantasy since none of them are (completely) human, but they pretty much live in a modern setting.
It does get dark at times. Think Beastars-adjacent in terms of vibes. Including the murder bits. But it's mostly self-defense or being forced into it, so take that as you will. I will say that it's nowhere near the levels of toxic relationships that something like the Sea Monster AU has. And they do actually improve as people. These three still get drama mind you, but it's from keeping secrets rather than being genuinely manipulative. ...Well. Too manipulative. It does have Alejandro and Heather in it. But it's got fluff moments because fluffy giant/tiny dynamics are precious and must be preserved at all costs.
It's got Alejandro who's a giant-shifter able to grow even larger than most other giant-shifters thank to his Burromuerto heritage. The Burromuertos are a completely upstanding giant-shifter family and definitely don't have any incredibly fucked up family traditions they expect Alejandro to continue.
Noah's a were-mongoose. Werefolk come in a large variety, though mongoose is on the far more uncommon side. Unlike most werefolk, this kid genius actually figured out a way to not completely give into his instincts during full moons. This has absolutely no negative repercussions on his wellbeing.
Heather who's a giant-shifter hybrid unable to grow thanks to her human heritage from her father's side. She's the only one of her siblings unable to grow. She definitely doesn't have a complex about this. But she has managed to find her own way of making herself just as much of a physical threat as her two boyfriends. (Aka the day I take away from Heather's inherent badassery is the day I die.)
Serial Killer AU
It's exactly what it sounds like. With exactly the vibes the name implies. Definitely the darker one. They're just a thriving villain throuple with a body count. It's also mostly Noah-focused so far as I haven't figured out Alejandro or Heather's motivations.
Noah stumbles across a body of a serial killer spree, only to be the first to realize that one serial killer is actually two. Curiosity leads him to investigate...but not for the reasons you'd think.
(For this one that's pretty much all I can share before just going into the whole AU)
And then, on the completed side since might as well dump all the Alenoaheather AUs:
Noah and the Beanstalk
Another giant/tiny AU! This one's actually got its own post already. I don't really have anything else that I didn't already mention in that post. But it's my blog, so I'll advertise my own AUs as I please!
Collab AUs
The Royal Court AU
Originally named The Lords In Black AU because it was originally inspired by me watching an animatic of The Summoning from Nerdy Prudes Must Die. Then it evolved into something far beyond that where the name doesn't seem quite right anymore.
It's got Alenoaheather as the worst teens at school and unashamed about it. ...Until Alejandro goes missing, and nobody else really seems to care. Leaving Heather and Noah to investigate and try their best not to be next.
They fail, but hey, at least they get cool eldritch powers out of it!
This AUs also dark because the premise is them being kidnapped to be used as sacrifices. And it's got plenty of eldritch horror in it. The posts for it are scattered because they ended up going into two separate reblog chains with @total-drama-brainrot and @ur-local-brown-multifandomist. If you look up 'lords in black au' on my blog you should be able to find most of it. I'm going to just centralize it for ease of organization one day. It'll just be. You know. Effort.
Also, @ur-local-brown-multifandomist is currently making a fic for it! It's their first one, so feel free to check it out.
Fake Dating Alenoaheather AU
This one's a collab AU between me and @total-drama-brainrot, a person you have never met because you are a completely anonymous anon. Noah gets caught in between Heather and Alejandro's attempts to make the other jealous by each making him pretend to be their boyfriend. Shenanigans and drama ensue. The posts for this are also scattered and tagged on both our blogs, and one day we might make a fic about it. For now, there actually is someone already making a fic about it that you can feel free to read!
I still can't believe two different people decided to start making fic of AUs I helped create. It's wild, and I'm incredibly touched.
"Why are all of these AUs except for one dark in at least some way?"
I honestly couldn't tell you exactly why my brain works the way it does. It just decided that the two canon villains and one-villain coded teenager deserve to be at least a little feral. As a treat.
Maybe one day I'll have an AU with them that's not so dark. That day will be a surprise to us all.
But yeah, that's all of the Alenoaheather AUs I got! The first two I'm more than happy to go into more detail for if you ask!

Caught up again- an emily prentiss/larissa weems fic
during an investigation that took the bau team to a Special school in Vermont, Emily runs into her one love she thought she lost forever while trying not to get wrapped up in the bs that is now her life and larissa grapples with the sudden re-appearance of the one who got away while dealing with yet another serial killer in her woods that threatened her precious school and it’s unique pupils.
pairing: Larissa weems x emily prentiss warnings: language, arguments, gruesome violence (like a typical c.m. episode), tension, angst, etc.
3.6k words
Chapter 1:
Emily sat with her team again in the round table room, waiting for penelope to introduce the latest crime that needed their attention. This was her life now, a typical tuesday, really… but maybe it’s become too much of her life.. She dosent know. Then again, with everyone telling her she needs to let off some steam, take a vacation, get laid, maybe she does know, but refuses to admit it ... oh well, who cares? It's no big deal anyway, shes lived this long she’ll be fine. she just has to get through this case and then her weekend- or whatever few days of the week it'll be- will be free to do as she pleases.. Which is mostly sleep, but that works. Emily is pulled from her thoughts when Penelope finally shows up and starts the debreif.
"Alright people, our next case is a series of murders, believed to be a serial killer in Jericho, vermont...”
Jericho? emily thinks man, I havent been there since... no, not gonna think about that now, em, dont. she disciplines herself before her focus is back on garcia and what she's saying
"..So this is their second serial killer in two years, which is part of why we’ve been called, also because the last killer was a hyde boy being controlled by a woman who groomed him."
There's a slight pause as everyone takes all this information in, before Penelope continues.
"Because of this, we'll all be having to take a quick refresher carse on outcasts with a member of our OCR(outcast crimes and relations) division, who's supposed to arrive in...5 minutes! Anyway, that's all l've got for you guys, buT I told SSA Oakley we’d be all Together in this room when she arrived, so…” pen shrugged, plopping down into her swivel chair next to where she was standing and fidgeting with her fluffy purple, sparkle pen.
There's yet another pause, a brief moment of silence while everyone processes this information and then it’s all over as soon as it began, the entire room envellopped in overlapping conversation. JJ talking about what she remembered when she worked with outcasts at the pentagon, rossi and Alvez asking a slew of questions, penelope and Tara gossiping over what they think having to work with outcasts will be like, matt babbling over them about professionalism and so on, and then there was Emily... Just... sitting there, in silence, Thinking. Contemplating, really, Because emily has more secrets than the team knows, and one of those is her status as an outcast herself, another being - no... she chastised herself again. were not thinking abat that right now,.. and so she didn’t, She thought about the case and her plan and not a moment later when JJ was asking why she was being so quiet, her answer was interrupted by a knock at the door, penelope rushing to get it...
"Ah! SSA Oakley, l'm penelope, it's awesome to meet you!" she said engulfing the woman infront of her in a hug.
"Likewise" the woman said, ner voice sounded strange, like a breeze rustling through leaves in the spring, but pleasant.
“I assume everyone already knows why i’m here?" she kindly asks the group and a chorus of yes-es and other such agreeing sentiments are returned her way.
"Wonderful! Then let's get started." she said, pulling out a laptop and hooking it up to their tech.
"So.. Number one thing I need to ask, is who nows anything about outcasts, just in general." the agent asked the group and everyone immedately has Ideas, but JJ speaks up first.
"There are many types of outcast and just like us, obviously, there's good and bad ones. I worked at the pentagon for a bit and one of my favourite coworkers was a werewolf named chelsea, she was so sweet and gave the best hugs!"
"On you know chels? shes super sweet, never met a warmer body, either!" SSA Oakly smiled, and it finally clicked for the group what made her seem odd, she was an outcast herself, seemingly a vampire at that.
“Anyways, yes, SSA Jareau, that’s actually the first thing on my list as a reminder, arcasts are people, too. Pretty much exactly the same in all aspects but their particular quirk, actually.” She smiled, closed-lipped this time before asking “Anyone have anything to add? I know this is a refresher course but if you’ll just bear with me I need to know how much of a refresher is really needed..”
And surely, as she trailed off, garcia gladly spoke up.
"ooh. I got something-although you may be enthralled with them, staring or making comments is Just weird, so try not to do that." Emily smiled at what she said though internally was a bit bored. As a siren herself she found this all quite stupid, for it was all clearly normal and obvious stuff... but she had to remember her team was all normies, albeit quirky ones, so she had to just shut up and hope this "refresher course" helped.
"Yup!" Oakley said, "Just like it'd be for anyone else.... I mean- any normies." She finished, waiting to see if anyone else weld speak un-pronted and catching eyes with their unit chief, a look of mutual understanding briefly lashing in their eyes as Oakley clocked Prentiss but knew not to say anything.
After a moment of no one speaking Oakley moved on to continue her reminder.
"Well, if no one else has anything
to add, since you’ve got down the general basics, l'd like to give you all the opportunity to ask questions about anything you want to know. Anything at all, nows the time to ask.” She said, pointing around the room.
Emily held back as her agents bombarded the OCR agent with questions upon questions upon questions about seemingly, as Oakley had said, absolutely anything. But eventually as everyone else's curiosity dwindled, they began to notice emily's lack of involvement in the whole ordeal and the gazes of her teammates began to shift towards ner more and more before Rossi finally had the courage to speak
about it.
“Prentiss? You’ve been pretty quiet this whole time.. anything you wanna ask or what?” He questioned her.
Not anything I didnt learn in school already, but thanks she thought, but didnt dare speak. instead easily lying with an “Oh, no i'm good - you all managed to cover anything I wanted to learn, and everything else l’d learnt back in university. I actually took a few classes on outcasts and i’m not that old yet." Fortunately, everyone seemed happy enough with that answer, though JJ was a little skeptical.
"Really? I didn't know that..." A sideways questioning glance was thrown her way by the blonde but emily just avoided her questioning gaze, instead locking eyes with SSA Oakley who swiftly moved the conversation- and lesson- away from her once more.
"well, since we were so thorough in that questions period " everyone looked a little guilty but Oakley reassured them
“Oh no worries, it’s honestly easier that way, it just means we’re nearly done now. The last things you all need to learn are just some simple facts about the most common species which you should mostly know of already, and some of the most common misconceptions,” Oakley explained further, “How about we start with the easiest one for me: vampires, tell me what you think you know.” She announced casually, Rossi immediately speaking up.
“You will never be able to enjoy the wonderful food of my people, for one.”
“Albeit a very common allergy among vampires, that’s actually not completely true. Being allergic to garlic is like the lactose and gluten-intolerant normies. Pretty common, sure, but honestly most just suck it up to enjoy good food, even if they’re stuck in the bathroom for three hours afterwards. What else?”
“Well, in most stories you can’t go out during the day because the sun will kill you.. but obviously that isn’t true.” Tara said.
“Yes, correct! Giant myth. We’re all naturally nocturnal, so our eyes and skin are much more sensitive to light but it can’t actually make us burst into flames or dust or whatever the current normie stories are saying.”
“What about blood?” Alvez asked, “I mean- like, you’re obviously not all murderers so…”
“Actually most of us are like… the equivalent of a human vegetarian- we don’t need human blood, it tastes much better though, and if you’re lucky you can find a blood donor, but otherwise we mostly just drink animal blood.”
“Oh, cool!” Alvez smiled, clearly fascinated.
“The next species we could talk about are sirens, what do you know?”
At the mention of her own classification, Emily became slightly anxious, worried about what their perception of her would’ve been if she was forthright about it.
“They trap sailors with their voices and seductiveness and have sex with them just to kill them.” Penelope said.
Oof. that hurt. thought Emily before she spoke up. “Actually sirens are much… more like sharks, like, they prefer fish and humans have only accidentally been eaten during siren-song a handful of times. And the sex thing is just a huge lie.” The moment she finished speaking, Prentiss realized her mistake when all eyes were on her. She backpedaled quickly “They were my favourite species to study in university” she added on a bit nervous yeah, because I am one was the thought that passed through her mind afterwards.
“Yes, actually! Chief Prentiss is absolutely right- siren-song isn’t used for sex or any personal gain normally, and is actually just traditional communication between them. Almost all sirens wear a special piece of jewelry or something of the like to keep their song from affecting others.” As Oakley said this, Emily played with the necklace hidden underneath her shirt, praying no one noticed all of her odd behaviour.
The team were impressed with this answer and the questioning continued on with a comment on werewolves from tara.
“Ah, yes! well, as JJ so kindly said…”
…
About 20 minutes later, after everyone but Emily had learned many new things Oakley was finally satisfied enough and began to pack up.
“Well, it was absolutely a pleasure to meet you all, and hopefully we can see one another again!” She smiled wide at the group, showing off her fangs once more, before turning to Emily with a knowing look in her eye, “And if you ever find you need it, you can always call me.” She slipped a business care to her on her way out the door, a chorus of ‘bye’s and ‘nice to meet you’s following her out.
Merely a minute or two later, after Emily had announced wheels up in 30 and sent everyone to collect their go-bags and prepRe had she been sat back in her desk, grabbing for that business card.
The front was simply a standard issue FBI card with a name, title and number on it, but when she flipped it over it read
“Really, if you ever need any support, there’s an FBI outcasts group. Give them a ring. xxx-xxx-xxxx
-Oakley of Antipaxtos.”
There was a knock at her office door and she quickly shoved the card into her blazer pocket “come in!” she called, turning towards the door to see which it was.
…
About 25 minutes later and everyone was set and ready on the jet. They’d have to fly out to Burlington and then make the hour drive to Jericho to meet with the sheriff before heading another half-hour out to the school for outcasts - nevermore - where they’d be conducting most of their investigation as well as staying at.
With penelope paged-in on one of the many tablets, light conversation rolled for the first hour or so of their plane ride and Emily joined in here or there, but remained mostly in her head as she thought about returning to nevermore for, well, the first time ever. She wondered who the current headmaster was.
Less than a second after what thought crossed her mind she was pulled down, out of the clouds from which her head was floating in.
“I’m sorry, what?” She asked and JJ frowned at her for a second time that day.
“Are you alright?”
“Yes, yes i’m fine, what is it?”
JJ seemed skeptical but continued on, “Pen asked if you’d lived out in Jericho when you were younger for a bit.”
“Oh. Yes, actually I did. My mom thought it best I spend some time with other ou-my father. It was only a couple years when I was 18 and 19 but it was quite nice. To my memory Jericho is quite quaint ..and has a lovely hot-chocolate spot.” Emily added, reminiscing on a time long since past when her and a delightful blinde would spend hours in that cafe together after school…
She coughed, bringing herself back to reality “..Although i’m pretty sure theres high tension between the outcasts and normies, if it’s anything like when i graduated..”
“Really?” Tara butted in “I mean, I know theres still a big gap in knowledge on our side, but i assumed its just like in any of the cities, where were civil and kind at minimum…?”
Emily laughed, a sarcastic sound “yeah… no, Jericho was originally filled with pilgrims, and most are still pretty nutty, so they think outcasts are less worthy than them, or something.” She sighted, everyone feeling a twinge of sadness for the outcasts in the area at that.
“Well, to brighten up the mood a bit, guess what i’ve just gotten?!” Penelope squealed, “Your sleeping arrangements at nevermoreee!! Ooh, i never thought i’d get to be this excited about dorms after college… so! who wants to hear who their roomie is?!” she clapped excitedly, waiting expectantly for someone to speak up.
“All right, I’ll bite,” Alvez told her, “where am I staying?”
“So lovely for you to ask, newbie, you’ll be staying in the empty teachers apartment at the end of the Dickinson boys hall with our de Rossi and Matt. Don’t worry, it’s quite spacious, and there’s three separate beds for you all.” she told them with a smile.
“ and what about us?” JJ asked.
“ yeah! what are we, chopped liver?” tara joked.
Emily smiled along, though she still felt like a fish out of water as they got mirror and mirror to her former school and the secrets she left buried there.
“ of course!” she heard Penelope say, but her mind had drifted as she listened to what Penelope was saying, only catching onto the last bit…
“… and you, my dear Emily, get the room right next to the headmistresses, all to your lonesome, which I’m sure you won’t mind” she informs her.
Oh great thought Emily, how fitting for the former student.
“ yes,” she ended up saying instead with up or smile on her lips that she looked real enough. Emily digited with her hidden necklace.
…
Later, when everyone was loaded up into what was basically a limousine and getting driven to Jericho 13 was once again feeling quite chatty… Too chatty for Emily’s scatterbrain at the moment. And unfortunately, for her, Tara could tell.
“Hey, you,” Tara said sitting down beside her and bumping their knees, “Whatch’a thinking about? You’ve been pretty weird this whole time, is there anything that we should know about?” She spoke softly, almost in a whisper, to the other woman and when Emily dosent answer at first she adds, “or that you want to get off your chest? I promise i won’t judge.”
After a bit of internal deliberation on Emily’s end, she decided to leg at least a little bit of whats bothering her off her chest.
With a sigh she spoke “I just.. I never thought i’d ever be back here to be honest.. A lot of shit went down when i was here, a lot of bad shit.. and of course i expected to come back to Vermont for work but.. not here, you know? its just a lot of memories and emotions and events to get thrown back in..” It’s a bit vague, what shes saying, she knows.. but to give much more detail she’d have to tell tara- and by consequence, most likely the who team- a secret she’d been keeping from them since before she even joined the FBI.
“Wow.” Said tara, “Yeah, that cant be fun.. but i’m sure whatever happened back then is long over now- it was practically 30 years ago was utterly not? I-I cant promise you’ll be fine, but i’m sure it’s just nerves and that everything will work itself out in the end.”
Emily really doubted that, especially id all the memories in the form of photos and trophies of hers were still there, she was actually just screwed.. but she wouldn’t tell tara that, she was just glad tara didn’t seem to want to push the topic and just said something along the lines of “yeah, thanks” before leaning on her shoulder and staring out the window, waiting out the rest of the drive in silence.
…
When the team finally reached jericho the charter that had previously infected the group had developed into nerves. This was the first ever case they’d had that included outcasts and none of them had any real experience with them.. or so they thought. because of this, emily found it in their best interest to go meet the sheridf as a collective before splitting off to begin their investigating and profiling.
“Hello, sherifff galpin. Cheif prentiss, i assume?” a scruffy mean about emily’s afe asked, and out for a shake.
“Yea, thank you for bringinv us on. These are SSA Alvez, Rossi, Lewis, Simmons and Jareau. Out tech js patching in through your computer, if needed.”
“thank you all for comjng, if you’d just follow me, i’d like to discuss a few things..”
once they’d arrived in the small station’s one boardroom and gotten settled, sheriff Galpin, shitty coffee in hand, immediately began to blab.
“ oh boy am I glad to have you and your team here!” the sheriff said, voice laced with exhaustion. “I really was getting worried here- ‘specially since I cant be working this case…” he trailed off woefully.
Emily had to hold in her surprise at this development, taking a sip out of the styrofoam cup she calmly asked “well, what exactly do you mean you cant be in this case? I assumed we’d be working closely together..” her expression turned to show a look of professional concern.
“Well..” there’s a long and awkward pause between them, with the sheriff seemingly fighting an internal battle before speaking up again with a sigh, “unfortunately i’m unable because i’m considered to have a conflict of interest.. you see- my son Tyler, and his mother my late wife, are hydes. Actually, he’s the hyde that caused the deaths of so many last year. though he was under the control of laurel gates.. it’s quite sad, really. she was a damn good woman in many ways with agreeable values. Felt her opinions should be more valued and represented in the community, with the whole segregation and all that. too bad she went crazy.. Anyway, considering my son, Tyler, was part if the whole situation last year and just recently escaped his centre for troubled youth, he’s one of the prime suspects, and as it turns out i’m not allowed to work a case that he’s a suspect in..” the man says solemnly.
Emily has to take a few moments to process these bombs that have just been dropped on her when before she can even speak up, he continues his scary speech.
“But don’t worry,” he says, “it’s no big deal. we all know it’s those.. fucking FREAKS up in their special school that did it. This time i’m sure of it. Man, those guys are fucking creepy and weird as shit. Hell, their headmistress didn’t even die from poison. Big ass bug in my opinion..” he finally stops, seeming to be internally fuming over his one-sided hatred of outcasts, and to this headmistress in particular it seems.
Emily just sits there, stunned at how open he was and vocal of his opinions… I mean, she knew the people still thought like this, but she really thought it would’ve gotten marginally better since when she attended there.. She toyed with her necklace, trying to compose herself and the inner turmoil she was having with her life at the moment.
When she managed to gain enough control over her emotions -specifically towards this sheriff she was now glad to not have to work with- Emily found her voice once more, making her first comment since this little.. rant debacle began.
She cleared her throat, “ahem, so, speaking of this.. headmistress, i’m assuming i’ll have to be working with her as opposed to you?”
“Yes, yes.. as you’ve probably gathered we’re not exactly a big town, and as much as i hate to admit it, she does have grounds and different levels of authority over her school per the outcast laws anyways, damn outcasts, always taking more than they deserve- she’s not even American you know?!” Sheriff Galpin spoke on as Emily began to get a gut feeling about this no, it couldn’t possibly be- right?! i’m crazy, snap out of it prentiss! you’re better than this, she was in her head as the sheriff was still speaking.
“…And I swear the guts on that woman, fucking english giant! That weems woman will be the death of me and all that I stand for, I swear.” He said, anger in his tone like he still had more to say, and he did, but it was at this moment where it all ended for Emily as she was mentally transported back to a time lived and long since passed of her youth.
Fuck. Fuckfuckfuckfuckfuck. Weems?!
…
over the course of that …’meeting’- if you could even call it that- emily learned several unfortunate things.. among them were thag the sheriff had called them in to help because he himself could not work the cae- considering his son was the last killer out here ans one of the main suspects. The second thing she learned was, although his late wife and son are outcasts, he seems to have an irrational hate for all things not 100% normie.. and worst if all, the main thing she was running from out here was the headmistress of the schol she had to work with. Her ex.
Larissa Weems.
Apparently, without realising it herself until later, she managed to black out everything that happened after that last discovery. about the lo-her ex. Larissa. That woman always managed to do that to emily. make her forget about everything else in the world but her, that is.. Seems like she still can, though its not nearly as pleasant as ut waa when they were together. Granted, emily probably deserved tgat after what she did.
Unfortunately, though, she really needed to pull herself out of her head. she could hear someone saying something to her.
“Hmmn?” She muttered, turning her head. Oh good, it’s just JJ.
“I asked if youre ready to head to the school now? everyone else is in the car, we were just waiting to see if you were out of your meeting with sheriff Galpin yet?

“Okay, cool.” JJ said grabbing her hand and dragging her up and outside to the car.
“Everyone’s ready? Feeling prepared?” Emily asked her.

A/n: Hello everyone! so sorry for this long ass wait, and apologies in advance for the VERY slow updates I will continue to have. I promise I’m still very much in love with writing and I won’t give up finishing my fics but I have some family obligations along with classes that have to take precedence over my writing. Updates might be more like once a month, but hopefully they can be longer! Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this, remember to drink water and go outside today! xx -bug💜
