Ohhh I love this! You were VERY brave, look at all that fine line work. I love it when people on tumblr give compliments about lines. They say things like “I want to eat it” or “your lines are so crunchy and greebled” and so on.

For many years I did not know what to say about babies, when other people showed me their babies. Eventually I learned about the primary considerations of babies, and therefore, what to look for when observing and reporting on them. For example, if it’s very young and holds its head up well, commenting that the baby is clearly very advanced and clever is an excellent observation, when a basic reaction of “cute!” only convinces the most deluded or besotted parents. Human babies are mostly not cute, exactly, and if they aren’t deluded or besotted or sleep deprived, the parents can tell if you are lying or uninterested.

Anyway, what I’m trying to say here is that I love these lines a lot, even if I don’t understand why or how to compliment them. They remind me of illustrations that you would look at for a long time as a kid because they had unexpected detail in them. There is also something inexplicable in the slightly organic curve of the spiked collars and the observation of the jaw of the skull that feels familial to me. It’s very very similar genetically to how myself and my younger sibling think about those things and it reminds me of my sibling’s art.

@shipstorms / ipsilateral writes with a precision of word choice that I appreciate so deeply, and everything in each sentence feels so well-placed, and in their work as a whole there's such excellent use of pacing -- every paragraph serves a purpose

@soliloquy-dawn / soliloquy_dawn is so lyrical and lovely, with a richness of style that poses a confident challenge to the misconception that all detailed writing is "purple prose" (simply not true!); to me, Dawn's writing shows that often more is more and immersion is achieved best through a luscious focus on detail

@weimarweekly / VoluptuousPanic is delivering a masterclass on character voice with Looking for Eight, with writing that balances interiority, experience, and visualisation in such a delightful way. There's specificity in vernacular which is so competent and impressive, and the flow from a sentence > paragraph > chapter level carries you along in such a natural, gorgeous way

For a relatively small fandom, the writing side is quite prolific! There's a lot getting written all the time and I know I find it hard to keep up (and am sure a lot of people do). This list is hardly a dent in what I've enjoyed and who I've read! But it's stuff that's dug into my brain in the best way.

hi sex witch! i have a multi-part question (sorry) relating to alcohol and sexuality - namely in that i cannot enjoy kissing or making out unless i am intoxicated. i am 20, afab (pre everything ftm) and likely autistic. (legal drinking age here is 18) the first kisses i had were sober and i was 18 and i think i was so obviously unenthusiastic that i got ghosted by the person i was seeing lol. tbh i dont think id ever felt horny until i was 18, but then i started ssris which obvs got rid of that for me. (this is my first question. is it common for autistic people to develop sexual feelings relatively late?)

i have since started going out to clubs and i can enjoy kissing and making out, but i have to maintain a certain level of drunkenness else ill lose interest and find it unpleasant. (this is with people i genuinely find attractive) i think i would like to be able to kiss people sober bc it would be nice to function typically in a relationship without drinking too often. is it possible for this to change for me? i know it could be the ssris but bc i was so uninterested even before i took them it feels unlikely. i can imagine it would feel difficult for a partner that i would have to get drunk in order to be intimate with them, for a variety of reasons.

this is a situation where changing the behavior can really only be changed with practice. right now your brain and your body have a loophole to kissing, which is, unfortunately, alcohol dependency. this isn't uncommon; much has been written about college students who self-report a need for drugs or alcohol in order to feel comfortable flirting and hooking up. it's important not to let the skill of doing it sober wither away, though - and to make sure that you cultivate the skill in the first place.

a helpful place to start may be figuring out what it actually is about intimacy you've found unpleasant in the past - nerves? sensory issues? uncomfortable positioning? - and figure out how you change that up to work better for you. the key is making the experience pleasant without having to drink, so find what makes it pleasant for you.

The 6 Thallax from the HH Mechanicum box, which I will be using as Kataphron Breachers in 40k. These lads are my favourite unit from the Mechanicum range, both in looks and lore and I forever hope and wish they get legend-ed in to 40k (never happening I know, but a trooper can dream). I shoved them onto some 60mm bases to avoid any "modeling for advantage" accusations and I'm pleasantly surprised by how ok they look on the larger base size, I was worried they'd look a bit weedy but I think they fill the space well (though I am very biased). They have some really cool extra gun options, with the Phased Plasma Fusil's, Photon Thrusters and Multi-Melta's, but not enough to fill a whole squad with. I dont want to muddy the proxy waters any further than I am already, so they're all getting the same, still very cool, Lightning Guns that I can pretend are Heavy Arc Rifles. I've already talked about the inherent queerness of Zim and mentioned a few times that there’s a big overlap with autism/neurodiversity but I thought this would make a handy reference. Note that “neurodiversity” isn’t just autism/ADD/ADHD but also includes mental illness, personality disorders, mood disorders, learning disabilities, and anything else that isn’t “neurotypical”.

On the queer side there is actual canon queer rep in the show and comics:

Irkens are canonically aroace and intersex.

Groyna from the comics was confirmed by Eric Trueheart to be a lesbian.

Commander Poki from the comics may be trans, as she has eyelashes normally only seen on female Irkens, but lacks the curled antenna every other female Irken is shown to possess.

Recap Kid's gender is deliberately ambiguous.

There are also many instances of queer-coding that can be seen throughout the show such as:

The homoerotic rivalry between Zim and Dib.

Red and Purple basically being Zim's two gay dads.

Zim and several other characters having campy and dramatic mannerisms.
