“Doctor shopping.” Let’s talk about her.

If you’re disabled you’ve probably heard of this before— if you haven’t, or you’re just unfamiliar in general, or an ableist who says this shit, let’s talk about it <3 because the definition has been overtaken and pissed on by more ableist bitches than the ones who demonized addiction within the medical field and caused this term to exist.

So, “doctor shopping” is actually originated from the people who oversee healthcare, which includes any non medical professionals who are involved in the process as well, like big pharma. It’s been defined (in medical related research journals, not just on social media/ the internet), as “a patient consultation with multiple physicians in a short time frame with the explicit intent to deceive them in order to obtain controlled substances.”

However, you hear in the community, from ableist ableds or even ableist disabled people who are like fucking rabid and frothing at the mouth, gnashing their teeth while flipping over the tiniest of pebbles to find “fakers”, (which is usually an AFAB person with multiple conditions that are followed by a slew of symptoms ranging in prevalence and severity, or someone that doesn’t “seem disabled” who becomes a target). So they call it “doctor shopping” when they see chronically ill or disabled people continue to advocate for themselves by going to countless appointments to try to find out what is causing their health to decline. They (ableists) think that by changing providers or continuing to pursue a diagnosis between multiple providers constitutes doctor shopping. It isn’t our desire, and it’s absolutely exhausting and painful when you’re left with no answers.

If I had not gone to the ER multiple times within two months, I would have died. The fluids kept me alive, and the medicine helped. My mom was preparing my dad for my death, and my fiancée was petrified of losing me because my condition continued to declined. But the entire time I was there, I was terrified of asking for medicine because I didn’t want to be labeled a drug seeker, especially because I’ve been open (for my safety) about using marijuana products. I was crying from how bad it was, my blood pressure was in stage two hypertension from the stress on my body.

They said it was, “nothing to worry about” when I saw my nutrition levels were low. My doctor wants a comprehensive metabolic panel because it is something to worry about because my symptoms were severe. And I had to see another doctor, but that facility ignored me for two months while my pcp and I tried working it out with them. They fucked around with my health for two fucking months. So I had to find a different person, and when I went to her she ordered a procedure, which meant a different facility, which means, yet again a different provider. I even had to go to a different hospital at one point for more tests.

Believe me, we don’t want to go to all of these appointments or see all of these doctors because, half of the time, even though there is something wrong with us, they don’t listen. We don’t want to go back and forth and get more medical trauma just for fun or for a silly little made up diagnosis competition bullshit.

People don’t change their doctors because they want to collect diagnoses like Pokémon, people do it because they want to live comfortably, or at the very least suffer less by finding some sort of direction to move towards to better their own health. I was literally preparing to die from medical neglect, because I did my absolute best and still, to this day, don’t have answers. If I hadn’t sought out more providers, I probably wouldn’t have been able to write this post. I’d be dead already.

This desperate desire to cherry pick what someone shares on the internet about their health and literally fucking stalk people on their social media accounts while looking for any sign that someone could potentially be faking their symptoms is, unfortunately, accepted due to disabled people hating themselves, and ableds hating disabled people. It’s that simple, in my mind.

Other peoples’ bodies, disabilities or symptoms are none of your fucking business, and, yes, this includes the things we decide to share. Disabled people share what we want to, and we live in our bodies 24/7. And some of you really need to sit the fuck down and shut the fuck up about how disabled people manage their health care.

I’m not saying there aren’t people who fake conditions, but I am saying that it’s far less than what you choose to believe. You say you want to protect “actually” disabled people by weeding out fakers, when all you’re doing is harming actually disabled people by playing Sick Olympics™️ and accusing them of faking when they’re just trying to seek out life saving treatment— which includes seeing multiple providers to dig deeper for a diagnosis, no matter how rare or outlandish you think it is. You don’t get a medal for harassing disabled people, you’re just a piece of shit.

I know New Year’s can be really stressful for mentally ill and neurodivergent folks so I wanted to post some reminders:

It’s okay to not want to drink/party/socialise/do drugs etc! Have fun and celebrate (or don’t) in the way you want to!

Fireworks and loud noises like shouting and cheering can be really triggering or difficult to deal with so excusing yourself/staying at home in a quiet room is perfectly fine!

Meeting new people and socialising generally (especially in large groups) can be very stressful. You don’t have to talk to people you don’t want to and you can leave/take a break when you need/want one.

Being alone on New Year’s doesn’t make you a loser or weird or not fun. I spent every New Year’s until the age of about 17 finishing the Pokémon game I’d got for Christmas because it’s what brought me joy and that’s okay!!

“New year, new me/you” is nice for some people but for others it can be hard, especially if you’re stuck in a depressive spiral or generally struggling mentally. Take things slow, you don’t have to change anything overnight or at all if you don’t want to.

This year has been really hard and full of shocking and horrible events and it’s okay to feel like you’re struggling to process it!

A lot of people may be spending New Year’s with abusive family, toxic friends etc. This is not your fault or a moral failing on your part. Going into the New Year with people doesn’t mean you will be stuck with them forever.

Feeling low or depressed or anxious or scared is really common at this point in the year. Keep an eye on your mental health though and if you feel like you’re reaching a breaking point then please call a friend, family member, hotline, ambulance etc. No matter what, you will make it through this and you are not a burden.

Above all, do what you can for yourself, no matter how small. You are important and you deserve happiness.

I certainly feel a difference myself, new fandoms and interests just don't rot my brain as all consumingly or as long as they used too

It's not a bad change, but I find myself missing it. There was a comfort to being consumed, absorbed, engrossed, to being lost completely in an idea. It was a powerful drug. One of the few parts of myself I thought I'd never be at risk of losings.

i still get super hyper fixated on media, mainly cuz of psychological stuff (not gonna get personal but yeah) so a certain media will just consume my attention at that moment in time. sometimes it’s for a few months, sometimes it’s for years. and sometimes it comes and go (like blue exorcist, my current hyper fixation haha).

idk if it’s different from when i was younger tho, i try not go around talking about my interests cuz i used to be that kid in middle school/high school that would never shut up about his favorite show and annoy everyone. and also get bullied for it as well (i got bullied for pokémon, like when it was popular, ?????). so i just don’t talk about my hyper fixations as much cuz of that. which in turn has made it harder for me to express my ideas on my favorite media so i have trouble getting involved in communities. also fandoms tend to scare me. i lived through some bad fandoms in my younger days online. so yeah.

Hwidkek it’s a bit long but if you really wanna hear it-

The general plot is that there is this organization, TECT, and they do all these wacky experiments on Pokémon. It isn’t JUST eevees, but those were the only ones I cared about. The specific eevees that are important to this story are part of a project called Project EVOLVE. The plan is to make new eeveelutions, whether that be completely different typings, or just different appearances and variations of regular typings. Some were made to be strong battlers, and some housepets. Battlers were forced to fight in an arena regularly to monitor their progress. Housepets were often drugged and sedated to keep them obedient.

The end goal is to sell these new Pokémon to anyone who could buy them, but most Pokémon ended up disabled and/or undesirable, so they never got sold. The specific lab that the story takes place in has a branch specifically dedicated to failures that the company needed time to find a new purpose for now that their original purpose is no longer possible. There are a lot of Pokémon at this facility, but I’m only talking about the big ones.

I think this entire concept originated with an animal jam roleplay, which is a tad embarrassing and not really important, but a fun fact nonetheless. Also, I drew some quick doodles of the importnat characters, just so I don’t have to worry too much about describing their appearance.

The main character was a shiny Sylveon named Gemstone. She had robotic wings, and was a steal/Flying type. I can’t for the life of me explain the reasoning the scientists had behind giving her full on metal wings when the rest of her is completely organic, I just know that that was what happened. She had not been born in TECT, she was a donation (I think her trainer had been manipulated into giving her up). Nearly from birth she was trained to be good and obedient and subservient and all that. She was let outside of her cage and allowed to just freely roam the facility a lot of the time due to how brainwashed she was. She genuinely believed the pain she went through was a necessary evil and loved her captors. She thought they loved her too. She’s super toxicly positive and often keeps secrets from the rest of the cast. She’s nice and friendly but has a major superiority complex. She’s only genuinely liked 2 people ever; Poole and Pixie (and, very far into the timeline, her children, but I refuse to think about them). Gemstone has been at this TECT location longer than anybody else, and was brought up as a Battler. Those who meet Gemstone tend to like her at first, but gradually realize how brainwashed she is. Gemstone is known for her cruelty in the arena. Her owners want her to be a good battler, so she will be.

Poole is a manipulative little shit who will do anything to get what he wants. He’s a grass type Umbreon, made as a battler. He hasn’t been at the location nearly as long as Gemstone has (no one has) but he’s not much younger than her. He’s obsessed with escaping and it often gets to the point where he faints from exhaustion, hunger, dehydration, etc etc. He loves Gemstone, and is constantly trying to find ways to save her. He wants her to break out of her brainwashing and run away with him (eventually, she will, but he wont survive the escape). He was defiant when he first arrived, used to a life of solitude and self government in the woods, but quickly learned that the best way to survive, and hopefully escape, is to play along. He’s a strong battler but still known to go easy on his opponents. He’s charismatic yet sharp tongued and bitter.

Pixie is a fairy type Espeon. She was made to be a housepet and is sedated frequently. Eventually she learns that if she behaves sluggish while off the sedatives, then she doesnt have to be on them. She doesn’t like them. They make her brain slow and they leave her basically defenseless against anything anyone wants to do to her. So she keeps quiet and keeps her head down, only allowing herself to truly be herself late in the night when the humans aren’t listening. She values her smarts above all else. She is polite but tends to keep to herself. She’s good friends with Gemstone and Poole, and is quite fond of Ex.

Speaking of Ex! He is a poison type Jolteon. You can’t really tell by his appearance, but he is. Honestly he’s one of my favorites just because of how cliche 2010’s emo bad boy he is. He was originally a failed project at another TECT facility, and now roams this one as a kind of guard dog ig? He keeps the Pokémon in line, and his bracelet somehow allows him to relay information to the scientists. They also use to to mind control him?? Don’t ask how that works. Anyway, he’s all gruff and tough and traumatized from being forced into snitching on and hurting his fellow pokemon. He doesn’t let anyone in out of fear of being hurt or hurting them accidentally. Pixie is the only person he lets himself get close to, and she inspires him to try to fight the mind control(??????) and this somehow works. He is a big contributor to how the gang escapes the facility.

Next up we got Shell, the egotistical and violent water/dark vaporeon. He’s literally so angry all the time. He hates everyone. He had a brief romantic stint with Tundra, but they broke it off due to Shell’s toxic behavior. Shell has been at the facility for a very long time and has been broken in. As a battler he’s dedicated his life to just destroying one opponent after the next. He has not been given to a paying customer because he’s very human aggressive as well. Tundra was the one mon Shell ever let himself get close to, but that didn’t last, clearly. It only cemented his beliefs that he can never open up to anybody ever. He’s vaguely friendly with Poole, but they’re not close. He hates yet respects Ex. He doesn’t pretend to be anything he isn’t. He’s aggressive and violent and it makes Shell not feel so bad about himself. He’s extremely intelligent and knows a lot about TECT. He understands humans better than anyone else but refuses to share his knowledge.

Next up is Tundra, the normal type glaceon! He has some serious anger issues. He is a recent addition to this TECT facility, where he is being held until they can find a use for him after his failures. Due to his abnormal biology, he’s extremely susceptible to frostbite. I can’t remember exactly why, I just know that it was important that he was susceptible to frostbite. He’s lost multiple body parts due to frostbite, and he’s always uncomfortably cold. That’s why he’s so short tempered, he’s pretty much always in pain. Tundra is much newer to the TECT facility than the others, so everybody else treats him like he’s stupid and refuses to tell him things. Knowledge is wildly gate-kept in TECT, as it’s the only valuable thing they have even remote access to, and have complete control over. This results in a lot of miscommunication, which leads to them not escaping TECT until much much later than they coudlve if everybody just talked to each other. This makes Tundra extremely angry, because he knows that everyone is keeping things from him and that if they just talked everything would be so much better. Shell was one of the only mon who explained things to Tundra, so he grew very attached to him. After he realized how toxic he was, he left him and now avoids him like the plague. He’s grown awfully close with Autumn, and after everyone escapes, they end up together.

Autumn is just your standard grass type leafeon, with some odd coloration. She was made as a housepet, and is very quiet. She’s always shaking, is extremely nervous and frightful, and barely ever talks. When she does talk, she just says incredibly out of pocket shit and goes back to never speaking. Shes extremely tired all the time but tries to be nice. People forget shes there, and often let things slip around her. She knows a lot. But she doesn’t have many people to talk to. She is close with Tundra, but still isn’t very talkative. She’s more talkative around Void, due to his own extravagant personality, but she oftentimes she can’t bring herself to form words even when she wants to say them. She gets a lot better after getting away from TECT, but is obviously traumatized.

Void is the youngest and newest Pokémon at TECT. He’s a fire/dark type. The black on his fur will eventually spread until it covers most or all of his body. I can’t remember if that was a birth defect or something TECT did. He is also made as a housepet. He isn’t often sedated, due to his ability to charm the staff and faculty. This makes him incredibly unpopular among other pokemon. They think he’s a suck up and hate him. He plays it off as a joke, laughs about everything and pretends he takes nothing serious. Nobody thinks he’s funny. Void is trying his best to increase communication among everyone, and his contributions to their collective knowledge are vital to everyone escaping. He’s the one who collects maps and finds clever ways to sneak around. He’s incredibly smart but because of his age and newcomer status people still don’t like him. He pretends he doesn’t mind. He does. He craves intimacy but knows he’d never receive it if he asked. Even Autumn and Tundra don’t really care for him. He was only ever a means to an end.

Most of the story revolves around them looking for a way out of TECT, but there’s a lot of stuff after they get out (I’m not putting that here cuz I’ve probably rambled on enough). Idk if the similarities are apparent, but I honest to god see them everywhere. Everytime Eevee Plex is mentioned in SSEC my brain just goes “holy shit it’s TECT.” Everytime Vay says something shitty my head whispers “omg Shell moment.” These recent updates with Flame and Daisy being silly together reminds me of all those little comics I drew in the margins on my school papers way back when. Miku being all cutesy and then also being a violent lunatic (affectionate) reminds me of the way Gemstone would always go from 0 to 100 in the arena.

I do hope you don’t mind the comparisons, it’s legit so funny/fascinating/fun imo.

I read all of this when you first posted this and it’s all so INTERESTING!!! I can def see all the similarities, it’s WILD LOL, I’d love to see a full series of this or something cause it’s just so interesting!!! ALSO I LOVE YOUR DESIGNS!!! All of the characters are legit adorable (yes even Tundra and Shell) my favorite design is Pixie tho cause she’s cute, BUT I am very interested in Void’s story in particular because poor baby Q-Q I hope he gets the love he craves.

Mad Max/Wasteland Pokémon AU

So I developed this AU in my mind and was having trouble getting it all down for like a couple months now. I've taken to affectionately calling it the Groudonverse but... Here goes. Sorry if this sounds rushed, I just had to get it out of my brain.

I'd been using Mad Max movies as background noise and all I can think about is an AU where the world was mostly modernized (like 1980s tech) and then Primal Groudon came around (I guess yay for team magma?) and fucked shit up. Now we got a desert planet with little pockets of humanity ruled by what we know as various villainous teams.

Everyone is alive at the same time and it's been about 40 years since the Primal Groudon event. As is the way of things, the way the world has gone is not Groudon's fault, humans just made the situation worse(TM), inciting wars over resources that basically got us to this point.

Meanwhile gym leaders/elite four and protagonists are leading resistances/just existing and trying to survive within the various settlements.

Vehicles in this universe are also helped along by various Pokémon due to components breaking down, so a lot of drivers team up with electric types to help power vehicles as batteries. You'll also find people modifying their cars to allow for their Pokémon to fight if they're attacked on the road.

(On a more humourous note, on a desert planet Palossand is all powerful.)

Now when I say the colonies are basically run by the villainous teams, this is actually not including Team Skull and Team Yell, because we can all acknowledge Aether and Macro Cosmos were more the villains in those respective games.

On to the juicy lil details.

The Settlements:

Rocket: The primary hoarders of remaining gasoline. They're on top of an oil field and managed to get their hands on some old refining knowledge from the before times. If you want your cars to run, you'll probably have to either attack their convoys or lift straight from them. As such they're known for a fairly ruthless security squad.

Magma: Weird religious cult that cares for the Groudon hybernating within their colony's depths. They don't really supply much to the colonies aside from guarding Groudon, but Groudon "basically started" the world down this path, so the others generally don't want to piss them off.

Aqua: if you're looking for water type Pokémon, Aqua has a monopoly. Literally you will not see water Pokémon without Aqua being involved somehow. As would be expected they're in charge of water distribution amongst the colonies. Just don't worry about the sleeping water legendary under their colony. Sure they COULD put the world back as it was, but they have so much power right now.

Galaxy: Specialize mostly in weapons and vehicles. Providing amunition, or helping to restore cars to a useable state. If it's metal, they can make weapons with it or make it move. A sort of "bullet farm."

Plasma: Mostly focus on breeding Pokémon to supply the various settlements with security. Think people that are obsessed only with breeding perfect IVs and imagine a whole group of people who cares about that and nothing else. They can't be the only people to keep Pokémon, so here it's mostly about controlling supply.

Flare: Mostly the pleasure colony and all that entails. Those that can afford leisure (gambling, drugs, sex work, alcohol) with their power can be found here when they want to have a good time. Also a hotspot for barter market places.

Aether: Focuses mainly on restoring medical supplies but also on chemical and biological warfare. For every disease they can cure they could also make everything worse for someone very quickly.

Macro Cosmos: Focuses mostly on Power/Nuclear Energy. This is to the detriment of the lower class citizens as, guess who experiences all the negative side effects/radiation poisoning? Those that can't afford to be protected of course.

All of these settlements have a complex set of interactions with each other where they're probably one bad day away from destroying everyone else, but recognize the value of each other. A very intricately balanced trade system.

Obviously none of these descriptions are 100%, every settlement has places they store their own supplies, have their own mechanics, etc. These are just specializations.

(Some of my assignments were intentional, some were just cause I knew we needed someone to handle a resource and no one else quite fit.)

Additional character notes:

-Team Skull basically are a little pocket for outcasts/burdens from various colonies. A lot of kids just left without parents to die, but Guzma wasn't having it. (So, if you're familiar with mad max lore, think the kids from the lost tribe from Thunderdome basically.) Incidentally a lot of the known protagonists in games end up here.

-Team Yell is more like a motorcycle-based nomadic scavenger group. Piers leads, showing Marnie how to survive and preparing her for when he can't be around anymore, as survival in the wasteland is never guaranteed. It's just a small group of spikey bikers doing their best and maintaining their freedom. They all escaped from the Macro Cosmos settlement to avoid radiation poisoning. They mostly survive by raiding supply convoys.

-You may be wondering where everyone's favorite train blorbo boys factor into this, and basically, when the world started going to pot, their parents were some of a group of people that went "fuck you we're going underground" and established a settlement in the subway system.

Not as creepy or dreary as it sounds, they actually managed to keep a lot of order down there. They've been surviving off a lot of low light vegetation, some gardens strategically planted under holes to the topside and Pokémon that inhabit the tunnels, as well has having their own little aquifer.

Things have been breaking down in the subway mechanisms/power supplies and since the knowledge is mostly lost the brothers are working together to get things back on track (hurr hurr). They're using Pokémon as a temporary fix until they can figure out something more permanent to provide power for the settlement they'd (accidentally) became defacto leaders of. The settlement basically is living in the cars of a train, mostly just needing to move it as a form of defense if the tunnels get breeched by anyone hostile. Just some hot little subterranean mechanics.

Gotta Catch Them...(Nihil)

Summary: The headcanons nobody asked for that I'm gonna do anyway. What are the Papa's Pokémon? I did say all the Papa’s.

I threw in this little bit. Every Papa has what can be called their 'mascot' Pokémon. The one present in all the interviews and magazine covers, and making stage appearances. Their starters are not necessarily their mascots, simply which on their team best represents them.

Also, every Papa has become a Papa in more way than one. In an effort to better prepare them for progeny, they are given an egg that hatches into a pre-evolved form. Can't let his Prime Mover do all the work. It's also to instill this idea of paternity as more than just status to the members of the church.

What happened to Papa's Pokémon after their death? The rumors are they were donated to the Clergy or simply just released. They could be sitting on a shelf in the crypt with their respective Papa's bodies. I can tell you one thing. They all put up a fight.

Nihil did some battling as a child. His Oricorio remains out and frequent the garden for nectar. Indeedee remains out to help him move around, acting as his eyes and general aid. He no longer has a full team. He has outlived most of most of them.

Starter. This man was alive for KISS, and they're what made him fall in love with music. When he saw the patterning on Zigzagoon and then learned what she evolved into, he instantly snatched her up. She's very vocal and was even before evolving. She's still vocal, but her voice has gone weak over the years. She could be seen often in the garden with Secondo's Toxtricity and nodding along to his strumming.

This smooth suave of a man learned to tango from her. He wanted to impress the ladies, and he and Imperator had still danced on occasion. Very old in her years, she doesn't dance anymore.
