2008: tito rabat -> 9.5/10. marc's longtime friend, literally part of the family according to marc. always gave me "got along great" vibes during the year but that's maybe also cause marc looked like a little bird and weighed five grams. maybe you can be okay with being outridden by a toddler when the toddler is cute.

look at the way they listen to him btw. i don't feel so good.

2009: cameron beaubier -> who gives a fuck about cameron/10. imagine you're a rookie and your teammate already got a year on you, is a year younger than you AND is doing things you cannot explain on that shit-ass bike. crazy.

well, one of them certainly had a bright future. the other one is still waiting to become the star of usamerican motogp racing, i heard.

2010-2012: ohhhhhhhhh we love a diva who had his own teaaaaammmmmmmmmmm cause he was soooooo gooooddddd (a bit of cheating for 2010 but not really, aki's other two signings weren't technically riding under the same team as marc)

2013-2018: dani pedrosa -> 8/10. i think anyone who survived six years as marc's teammate and still has a good relationship with him deserves a fucking nobel peace prize. dani obviously benefited from the fact that he was marc's idol growing up and they were moving in more or less the same repsol and red bull sponsorship circles for years by the time 2013 came around. i think marc respects dani a lot to this day and considers him by far his most influential teammate. again, lots of time spent together and even if things were strained at times, they always seemed to return to a more or less good relationship.

i have to learn more about their relationship to go in depth tho!!! this is just what i gathered across the months. where it comes to the goat question, i dare say dani prefers vale over marc, but i never read about that so maybe im wrong. in the end it must have stung to have been with honda for so long and never have won the championship and here comes that twenty year old CHILD, takes over everything, wins his championships like it’s nothing and has the audacity to make dani feel like a second rider to a king. not by his behaviour per se but simply by his achievements, and also the way honda's structure must have changed. remember, marc said when he arrived in motogp, dani was hrc's no1 rider. i wonder for how long.

sometimes i feel like dani got the "vale's greatest fears" speed run with marc. guy who is younger and clearly better than you, who is threatening your legacy, who considered you his idol and inspiration… but dani didn’t act about it all like vale did. dani didn’t ask “did marc have my posters in his room?” when clearly marc HAD. dani wasn’t insane about marc. in fact, dani was remarkably normal and calm, about marc and the whole situation, as far as i can discern without having watched it all. i think that was just his way. so maybe that was lucky, for both of them. bc had dani been more vicious, marc would have turned it up as well. and by the time dani left marc, marc was already known to be a monster. nothing to do about that.

in either case i find it very difficult to tell if dani actually liked marc as a person. i feel like they got along well enough and media duty was never as boring or bothersome as it could have been, but i sometimes also feel like of them all, dani could best tell that there’s something seriously wrong with marc. but again, maybe im just delulu. will come back to this question eventually, once i actually watch their years together. maybe dani is just… reserved as a person or maybe he simply didn’t give a fuck. or maybe he liked marc, in earnest. heard that happens sometimes.

2019: jorge lorenzo -> 7.5/10. talking out of my ass a little bc same as with dani im judging based on vibes transmitted via singular images but the sheer amount of cunt served by this duo is unfathomable. yes, marc absolutely destroyed jorge’s everything and won the constructors, the teams and the riders championships all by himself but also the amount. of CUNT!

if this had not been jorge’s fucked up retirement year, we might have had more fun with this. they might have been nasty with each other in a very funny bratty way. but alas, it was not to be. though it IS funny to learn NOW that MARC told honda to sign jlo as if he was some asset. this man’s brain is working on some different plane to the rest of us. either way, iconic simply for the history of it all. what a duo.

2020: doesn't count. oh, how i wish it did. but it doesn’t. do we ever talk about how fucked it is that alex had to be sole factory rider in his rookie year on like, one of the worst bikes on the grid? we should talk about that more.

2021-2022: pol espargaro -> 8.5/10. forever rival, brother of my cousin, guy who possibly is responsible for my first kiss and/or handjob. didn’t visit me in the hospital when i had my fucked up operation but did send said cousin-brother to hug me cause we’ve been distant family for what feels like our whole lives (as family is) and also told everyone and their mother that im lowkey the goat. would also pay a lot to see me strip in a professional setting. some things never change.

very very very special. i wish we could have seen them race each other in a normal team and during normal years. sure marc would have kicked polly pocket's ass as per usual but it would have been so fucking fun. i love their relationship, personally. there's always something about it that strikes you as so. like a glance over the shoulder, to see if he is also looking back.

2023: joan mir -> 5/10. this is probably too high. maybe it's like. a 3/10. if we reached peak levels of cunt in the repsol honda team in 2019, then we have reached the absolute rock bottom of cunt levels with the arrival of joan mir in marc's worst fucking year on the death machine. it must be a special talent to make marc marquez look less cunty by physical proximity, and joan possesses that talent when sharing his team colours.

also, of course, The Incident. joan mir doesn’t understand how an eight time world champion cannot qualify without needing some wheel. marc high as a kite as joan begs for forgiveness. tragic scenes. and then they make them teammate (and they were teammates...)

personally i think joan is by far the teammate marc got along with worst, if you don’t count cameron, whom no one counts in anything ever. they played nice for the team and it’s all cute and shit until you NOW look at the way marc acts about joan, which is just a little bit too aggressive and dismissive for me not to think something's up. im pretty sure somethings up. there’s just something decidedly off about the way marc seems to indulge in poking fun at joan any chance he gets and remind him of his miserable existence, and though im not sure what it is bc i haven’t been here between 2020 and 2023, it’s so fucking funny. whatever part of joan pissed marc off like this, i know it was for a reason.

and also every time marc fucks with joan and joan complains afterwards these days, i laugh. okay mr one race win to his name. pipe down and ride your shitty bike in silence.

2024: alex marquez -> -69420/10. hate each other. obviously. worst teammateship marc has ever had to live through. definitely not exactly what he needed when he moved from his team of a decade to an unknown team and bike. neither alex nor gresini were absolutely perfect for him. WHO would want to team up with the person they love most in the entire world?

could write an essay and it wouldn’t be enough. alex is alex, and im eternally grateful for everything 2024 gave to marc. what a year.

2025-?: pecco bagnaia -> :3/10. lets see what will happen, no? let’s see how long it takes marc to become marc marquez in this new team. let’s see how immune pecco is to mind games. let’s see how his behaviour will change. funny that we compare pecco to a rat, honestly. because i feel like he IS a lab rat and professor miarc meowquez is about to put him into test courses you’ve never seen before.

every day I lament jack kline being in only the last few seasons of supernatural, because as well-written as he and his whole arc genuinely is, the rest of that portion of the show is uuuuh ASS, not to mention visually boring.

Hello! I remember in the past you'd mentioned using a cane - at least I think it was you? If it was you, I'm wondering if you have any advice... I had two severe spine injuries recently (terrible luck) that sped up my degenerative disease in my spine. I'll be using a rollator for the rest of my life now. I know a rollator isn't the same as a cane, but I'm wondering... Did it take you awhile to adjust to being in public with your cane? It's taking me awhile to get over people staring at me because I'm "too young" to need a rollator, and it's also been... Difficult for me to ask for disability related accommodations for events and locations for fear of being a bother. If you have any advice you'd be willing to share for getting over these things/dealing with them, I'd really love to hear.

And also, semi-related... I remember you have a really good fashion sense that I always admired, which is why I'm asking this part: any suggestions for how to decorate the rollator? It's dark red and black (I wanted a dark purple one but it was too expenny, city boys make do), and my usual style is sort of a mix of dnd elf-y rogue looking stuff and 2010s emo with a lot of piercings and jewelry. I want to make my disability aid feel like my own, but I don't have any ideas for how I could do so...

By the way, if this is too much to ask about, I won't be offended if you delete it! I don't know how your view of anonymous asks is after your time away, I just recall you used to give advice sometimes. No hard feelings regardless!

re: my cane, full disclosure that I don't have to rely on it all the time. my own nonsense comes and goes, and while 95% of the time it'll leave me with an unusual gait to my walk, it's only when it's really bad that I need use of a cane. having said that I do still have to whip it out every so often, and it took a little getting used to. mostly because people really do stare, my lord. I've been lucky enough that nobody's ever been a dick about it, but it does draw a lot of attention because I'm visibly "too young" to use a cane. (which is a ridiculous notion in itself but here we are.)

I did get used to it very quickly though, for two reasons. the first is that I really do not mind being stared at for something I'm wearing or doing deliberately, and my cane can kind of qualify as that second one (more on that in a moment). the second is that I'm just a fairly chill person and -- speaking for myself here, not trying to assign you motivations -- I don't see anything wrong with the fact I'm using a cane, I don't subscribe to the nonsense about being "too young", and I figure if someone's going to be a dick they're going to be the one being an ass to somebody for a disability so what do I care. as for the practical aspects of having a cane in public, a lot of practise. I was forever limping off and leaving it in the car or at my table :/ which is so objectively funny but what can I say. I am an idiot.

re: the second thing I mentioned, this relates also to your question about decorating. I will admit I don't have too much advice about this because my cane is the decoration, hence why I don't mind it drawing attention. my cane is a honest-to-god old-ass Victorian cane with a polished wooden body and silver fixtures, it is aesthetic as hell and I got it because a friend working in a massive charity shop in London saw it in the back and grabbed it for me because she thought it was my vibe. I tried it and it is the perfect height for me. it's genuinely A Piece™ and aside from having to polish up the silver it already feels like my own as it's such my vibe lol.

I know online you can find lots of cool things for both convenience and personalisation: stickers, extra aids like cup holders, you could look at stuff like holographic bike tape, ribbons, necklaces, and so on. I've never done it myself but I've seen people in public with similar things going on and it always looks cool as hell, so I hope you have fun and find something that feels just as Aesthetique as my cane!

So, about last night's promo

I've been getting my literary analysis groove back lately so I'm gonna sit down and rewatch last night's CM Punk and Seth Rollins promo on Raw and dissect it here. Because I'm conflicted. This is gonna be long.

Context: been watching wrestling for 6 months, Punk's my favorite wrestler, I've learned all I easily could about his career, but I'm not the scholar many older fans here are. I know the circumstances around his WWE and AEW departures but I wasn't there then to gauge the public mood.

So far, I've been unconvinced by this feud, I think Seth's arguments aren't solid enough for the level of hatred on display, and I think Punk has forked no lightning with his promos. Like, three weeks ago he was saying he didn't give a rat's ass about Seth, and it made sense because it was in the continuity of everything he's said since his return (here to make money, after a title and WM main event so not interested in a guy that lost his title, focused on the future, etc). So I'm struggling to believe that he's become interested so quickly. That's where I stand.

Now, the promo.

As much as I love Seth's energy and his command of the crowd, I don't get the "revolutionary" thing. He's painted as the company man in this feud, how on earth would he be that and a revolutionary? Why this talk of revolution? I'm just accepting that it had sense when he got the nickname and I just wasn't there to see it.

"The biggest fight in our sport, ten years in the making"

It feels four weeks in the making, is one of my issues here.

Seth saying that he's gonna be here the next monday and the one after that etc, is good. It's fair game to take a shot at Punk for being a part-timer, it's a callback to Punk's own issues with WWE in the 2010s. It would be hypocritical not to address it.

"He's gonna cryyyy about it, he's gonna whiiiiine about it"

I just want to point out that I love his delivery there. Seth does have an obnoxious whiny voice, but he knows how to use it ^^

I like that Punk is straining kayfabe by calling Seth an industry plant. It's good to push on the fourth wall from time to time.

It's clever of them to blame Vince, and I didn't think they would do it as much. You can't really show the full importance of CM Punk if you don't get into the reasons why he didn't fit the WWE mold back then, what held him back, and how he changed the culture (even indirectly) when he left. CM Punk without his opposition to Vince McMahon (and the WWE's past way of working) is not the controversial legend they've been presenting him as since his return. So, good. And it feels in character for him to see Vince (and the old WWE) in Rollins and to dislike him for that.

"I haven't seen The Man around these parts in quite some time. Did she take her ball and go home too?"

I actually don't have a problem with that, because we've seen the netflix trailers, and we know Becky's coming back. So she'll be able to defend herself, give Punk a piece of her mind and tell him a public (and deserved) fuck you. It's not classy, but this is wrestling. Okay so far.

"In reality, you just want to cry because I abandoned you."

It starts going wrong here for me. They were going somewhere interesting with Seth and Punk's different professional philosophies here, they were grounding their feud in something real and believable. And now they're going back to this big brother/little brother thing that looks plain childish. Did they really have a big and little brother vibe back in the day? One that was visible to the audience? Or was it a backstage mentorship that the audience didn't know about? If it's the last one, this feels like an excuse invented a few weeks ago to bolster a feud they don't want to explain the real roots of.

"We both made our choices. We both made our decisions. I have no regrets."

That sounds like the reasonable Punk from a few weeks ago, who said he didn't think about Seth and was turned toward the future. Which is good for continuity and characterization, but in contrast, because Punk sounds so reasonable, it makes Seth's already feeble arguments look even weaker. It makes him look like a child kicking a wall during a tantrum. It's not good stake-building if Punk doesn't have a very personal reason to care about this feud ("that dude won't leave me alone" is not a good reason. With Drew, there was insult and injury.).

The part when Punk asks about Seth's injuries and Seth assures him he's recovered is good. It's good old taunting of your wrestling opponent. I think Seth should have asked about Punk's arm in return, hell, he could have made a dig about his age, even!

"How's your pride, because you didn't get a modicum of revenge on [Bronson Reed] and you saw me break his ankle at War Games?"

YES! Wrestling's revisionist history! The floor broke Bron's ankle, pookie, but by all means, take the credit lol

"Self-proclaimed martyr? You're damn right."

Attracting attention again to the fact that Seth is victimising himself and his casus belli is weak. Which of course is normal for the enemy to do. But the casus belli is weak in this case, which means the writing is weak, and they're pointing at the loophole again and again 😬

(Personal preference, but I think Punk making so many references to his money-making doesn't sound very...punk. I'm not saying he should pretend he doesn't care, he's literally at work, but his early identity was a straightedge punk rock rebel one and that's what I preferred.)

I like that Seth is calling the "little brother" thing crap, because it is! And I thought he was about to say "this is not what this is about" and get on to the real issues. But...

"My wife, she's taking a break to raise a kid. I know you don't know what that's like."

This, I HATE. Let me say something quickly: I have no doubt they went over this and made sure they were comfortable with what they were going to throw at each other. I have no doubt Phil will have ran something that potentially hurtful by AJ to make sure she was okay with it being said on TV.

THAT BEING SAID. I think this crosses a line (a kayfabe one). It's okay to make a remark about Becky, because she'll be back on screen sooner or later, she can hit back. But when you mention a guy's lack of children (like it is something to be critiqued), you automatically mention his wife's lack of children, and AJ is not here to tell Seth to go fuck himself. In real life, the couple is no doubt comfortable with this being said on TV. But in kayfabe, Seth Rollins just made a dig at CM Punk for something that, for all he kayfably knows, could be a deep wound for him and his wife. There is no way this doesn't paint him as an abject heel in this day and age (and I thought this was supposed to be a "both sides have a point" feud).

Also, I've seen Punk's reaction to being asked about having children in one interview, and it's been enough for me to wish he'll never be asked again. I don't know if there's something there, and it's none of my business. Let's just say I fucking hated that part of the promo.

"You wanted this place to die with the echos of the 'CM Punk' chants. You went on your buddy's podcast, tried to tear this place down. When that didn't work, you took every single shot you could to try to kill this place, and you still couldn't do it."

Good: injecting some reality into it by mentioning the podcast. Bad: pretending Punk is some kind of boogeyman, a giant capable of tearing WWE down by words alone, or that he would try. Nobody buys that, Seth. @d-lanx said that Seth is acting like a fan just after Punk left WWE, and I agree. Public opinion seems to have shifted since then, and it seems like people agree that Punk was mistreated to some extent and was right to blow off some steam (especially since the truth about Vince's actions and his methods has been revealed). So once again, Seth sounds like he's exaggerating something everybody is at peace with today.

"And then you took a big chunk of change to go join the competition. How'd that work out for you?"

GOOD. Get him on that, bring out the dirty laundry! It's a low blow, but it's within the wrestling sphere, it's (from Seth's stated position) a legitimate argument. And it's not whining!

"And we won the war. And you wanna come back in here and wave the flag with us? No way!"

Okay, good way for this to go. Call him an hypocrite. It would make sense. This is not childish, it's a legitimate grievance. The revolution and war allegory is stupid, but "I worked hard for something and now a guy who hasn't contributed wants to enjoy the spoils" is a reasonable and relatable argument. But then he goes with the big brother thing again, and it doesn't sound mature anymore.

"You wouldn't be here if it wasn't for me."

Utilizing Punk's age and his career, his coming from the indies and everything is good. That's how you use an older wrestler.

"I loved the place I worked, I just hated the guy in charge. And he loved you."

This is also a sound argument. It's an emotional one, but it's not about Punk's ego (he's said that Seth can't threaten that anyway). "This is the guy my shitty boss held in high regard so I don't trust him at all and profoundly dislike him by instinct" is a reasonable and relatable position to have. It's his turn to have a point now. Balance!

"And in situations where you should have my back, all you did was shoot arrows in it."

Aaaand back to vaguing. They imply stuff, but they don't clearly say what happened, so it doesn't work as well as it could. And the arrows allegory was good, but I think he drags it out after that.

"And then I leave, and lo and behold, he shows his true colors and he stabs Roman Reigns in the back, and now he's dressed like an idiot, trying to play victim in a situation that he created."

Vaguing: bad. Referencing elements from the kayfabe canon: good. But also, they're pointing at the weak writing again. There's a big hole in this story, and it's called "We can't use Seth's real problems with Punk (if they exist) to make a work out of that because it's too sensitive and we don't want either of them to be presented as an actual real life bad guy so we give Seth a weak token excuse to go after Punk in this feud and now he looks like he's playing the victim".

"[...] they chanted, mostly during your television time, my name."

This! Seth could have used this! Saying "I'm sick of hearing your name, it hasn't been relevant in 10 years and never will be again" would make him sound less stupid than "You ghosted me and tried to destroy this billion dollar company with a podcast". I would understand him for being mad about Punk's name being chanted during his matches for years. I would be with him!

Arrow throwers are archers, if I may be petty.

"[...] with a fistful of arrows, and I'm going to jam them down your corporate throat."

Visceral, sexual, love it. Love it. Seth misses an occasion to point out that Punk's become quite corporate himself here, in my opinion.

Seth's cancer allegory is distateful, but it works, and I like it because he's finally saying what should come easily when you're up against a guy who came out of retirement: you're not relevant anymore, so much so that you've grown parasitic and should be on your way out already. It's nice (well, it isn't, but you see what I mean. If anyone is still reading).

What I haven't said up to this point is how well acted and delievered this is. Punk glides through this as is his habit, but Seth really impressed me, he's just as good. Really nothing to criticize here.

This ends with Seth's music, and if he has the last word, I don't believe he's the victor in this. I feel like this is supposed to be an even fight, like they've both got points and nobody is right or wrong, but the weakness in writing on the side of Seth makes that impossible. Punk didn't only make good points, but he made more than Seth throughout this feud.

In conclusion: very good promo work, a little marred by the weak writing of this feud that still feels baseless and rushed to me. I could write something more coherent and comprehensive for this conclusion but this took me hours to write, I still haven't seen the rest of Raw, and I need to switch my brain off again for a few hours.

Also: none of this is hate. They both did a great job last night.

It’s time for music headcanons with the batfam, bc if I don’t get this out of my head and onto page, I’m going to implode.

Fave first, Dick is definitely a indie pop/indie rock kinda boy. Not just because I identify with that, but also bc he gives me those overly energetic, bubbly vibes, that I feel like only come from Grouplove, Vampire Weekend, and Adam Melchor. I also feel like he’s a Mitski and Boygenius kinda bitch, bc ough, boY, he has angst. Said angst can only be expressed through sad girl music, bc he will die before he ever expresses his feelings about anything to anyone.

NEXT we have Jason, I think he’s an emo ass boy, ngl, but specifically like folk punk. He listened to twin sized mattress one time, broke down crying, and hasn’t looked back. DAMIAN, I THINK, IS COMPLICATED. So, for one thing, he grew up in a weirdo environment, where they probably never listened to music, and if they did, it was “”tasteful”” music, for rich ppl. That, or it was culturally significant. So, I think I’m his exposure to music after moving in with Bruce, he started just absorbing absolutely all the music he could. Stephanie has a 2000s-2010s pop addiction. Anything that makes her feel like Hannah Montana is her SHIT. She’s out here blasting Bubblegum Bitch and early Taylor Swift. You also can and will find her crying to sad One Direction songs. When she’s moody, she will unironically play My Chemical Romance. She understands pop punk a lil bit, but the lyrics tend to get male-manipulator-y, so she sticks with the bands she already knows.

Alfred likes 50s/60s jazz/pop. Frank Sinatra, Chet Baker, etc. It reminds him of home, and of his family. He also really likes old French music, like Joe Dassin. I’m ngl, I don’t know old music enough to add more to this one, but u get the idea 😭

BRUCE. Ugh. He’s definitely the kind of dad who never moved past the music of his childhood. He firmly believes that the Beatles is the best band of all time, and no one can convince him otherwise. I think he tends to gravitate towards the rock/goth end of 70s/80s music, so things like the Cure, New Order, maybe a lil bit of Siouxsie and the Banshees. Ok, Cass is defo a similar situation to Damian, grew up with literally silence, so music is a super new thing to her. But I think she really enjoys all kinds of genres. I think she also likes to “sing” along to said instrumentals, but mostly it’s just making noises to the same beat and sound, but it’s very off-key.

The 2010s were such a boot decade. Ankle boots, riding boots, combat boots, work boots, bizarre boots that looked kinda like hooves... it was such a good decade to start developing my preferences in shoes. Right now I feel like the only boots I see much discussion about fashion-wise are frye boots and a very specific sort of platform boot, and that's a lot less variation than the previous decade had. I like and wear some of the other shoes that I've seen people talk about in the last few years (loafers, ballet flats...), but wearing a loafer vs. wearing an ankle boot is a different vibe for a different outfit or a different day. Omitting most boots on a vast societal scale in the fashion world seems like losing something to me.

Besides, there will always be ugly as sin shoes, and some of the weirder boots of the 2010s were ugly as sin, but I'd rather see an ugly as sin esoteric neon patterned boot any day over some of the ugly as sin pair of gross ass old uncle-twice-removed barbeque sandals or their pseudo-flip flop counterparts that fill up the shoe aisles in the 2020s.

Considering it has been in the public domain since 1962 (and for longer in the US), anyone and everyone can publish an edition of the Dracula novel. And since everyone is already familiar with it, you really don't have to worry about marketing it.

But also, like...there are HUNDREDS of editions of this book out there. Why would someone buy yours over another one? And also, vampires are cool.

All this taken together leads us to the amazing variation of covers for this book over the last 127 years.

(Some of these may be for strictly digital editions, or fanart. People who upload to Pinterest are garbage at providing accurate descriptions. But they're all going for the same cover-art vibe, so I've included them.)

(Also I tried to avoid comic book / children's illustrated adaptations, only because those aren't literally the same Stoker novel. ...But some of those are fun, so get bent, me.)

The original 1897 edition, and still probably the best. LOOK at this. Blood red, narrow, imposing font on sickening yellow, the leg of the R dropping below the line as an ominous red fang, pointing to Stoker's name. Golden Age of novels, indeed. Just goddamn perfect. This is going to be hard to top, right out the gate.

Valiant effort. Just the original with roasted edges, with a stock photo of Castle Bran and a giant full moon draped over it. This castle + moon thing comes up a lot.

Also I have no idea what this sequel by "Dacre Stoker" is the hell about. This book is public domain so anyone can publish whatever fanfic / sequels they want about it.

...Dacre Stoker is apparently legit Bram's great-grandnephew, and is a gym teacher from Quebec who used to be an Olympic athlete and coach. Now he just writes or co-writes Dracula books. Good on him, I suppose.

Obviously an edition post the Coppola movie, what with the castle that is very nearly the one from the movie, and the field of impaled people at sunset. It's fine for what it's going for, I guess.

This is the one from the hardback edition I have, in that this is on the dust jacket I threw out because fuck those things. The actual book is black with a simple red title font.

When I think Dracula, I don't think "2010s gritty emo reboot of Red Riding Hood." Don't know why anyone would. But I'm sure the original emo / goth PC wallpaper you stole from 2006 made someone's Evangelical coworker slightly annoyed.

Simple, artful, story-relevant. Font is going a bit too hard with the Steampunk signage thing, but it's inoffensive.

This is...a choice. I mean, this IS a scene from the book, and the art is okay. Just a weird choice for the cover, especially with the obviously lazy lasso tool selection and cropping. This doesn't really represent the overall tone of the novel, which is not about old men being irritated. I guess it is certainly distinctive...?

bro ive never heard a Ghost song in my life. got any recs for their heaviest-sounding songs. ive seen jokes that they aren't actually metal so thats why im asking for their heaviest songs lol or what someone would consider to be heavy for a Ghost song

The thing about Ghost is that their music doesn't neatly fit into one genre, and people probably wouldn't be saying they're not metal if this was 40+ years ago. They'd fit in with many 80s metal bands.

Their debut hit "Ritual" doesn't sound heavy at first, but thirty seconds into the song there's a heavy riff and then it goes back to a groovy tune and then another two minutes it's heavy again.

A lot of people jokingly refer to it as "Scooby Doo Rock" because it IS very campy and over the top. I think Square Hammer instantaneously hits you with that vibe, but it's a great song. Square Hammer is heavy, but it's also fun and upbeat.

Their songs often have a mix of heavy riffs and beautiful melodies, with inspiration clearly taken from 80s stadium metal and even 60s bubblegum pop. They're danceable. You can shake your ass to their songs and that's intentional.

It's also worth noting that the musicians supporting Ghost come from all different backgrounds. Their guitarist, Sodo, has been in heavy metal and death metal bands. However, Aurora, one of their female vocalists, is a pop singer.

I would say, though, some of their (subjectively) heavier songs are by album (early to new) are the following. I'd recommend working backwards from their new stuff to old if you're interested in listening to them because their sound is more polished now.
