When the chip readers for credit cards first started rolling out at the place I worked, there was a glitch where if the customer took the card out before it was done, the entire register system would freeze. I always, ALWAYS, told the customers “Put your chip in and don’t take it out until you hear the machine beep, otherwise it could freeze the system and we will have to start the transaction over/wait/etc.” We also only had three check-out registers, and two customer service registers.
Gentleman comes up to purchase his electronic. Puts chip in. I explain the way I always do. He takes the card out before it’s done. System freeze. He apologizes, and I reiterate that if he takes his card out before it’s fine the system will freeze. We move to another register while the first one reboots. He puts his card in. I tell him again not to take it out till it beeps. Again, he takes it out before. Second register is now frozen and has to reboot. When we moved to the third register, I asked him to hand me the card so I could perform the transaction myself. Idk if he was being malicious with his incompetence but he got REALLY pissy when I told him not to touch his card and that I would take it out for him. He asked for a manager. When the manager came over he literally told the customer “You’ve cause two registers to be down because you didn’t listen to instructions. I’m sorry but what else did you expect?”
One of the rare moments where management took my side.

Just a thought but maybe if you’re gonna be doing renovations/painting in the store that requires you to close off entire aisles and the bathroom, meaning that no one can buy anything in those sections or use the bathroom if they have to, maybe just close the store for a day instead of inconveniencing folks

The rotation of Christmas music that plays in the store I work at includes the following:
Any version of “Last Christmas” you could think of and then some, EXCEPT Wham’s
Various people trying to come up with weird new verses to “Jingle Bells”
Joey Ramone’s cover of “What a Wonderful World”
This one cover of “Do You Want To Build a Snowman” that’s sung in like. That specific really breathy way that pop singers do Christmas songs sometimes y’know?
The song from the Victorious Christmas episode
Three songs from the Phineas and Ferb Christmas special
“I Have a Dream” by ABBA except not the ABBA version
- DO YOU REMEMBER THE 25TH NIGHT OF DECEMBER

keep thinking of that clip of danny saying "can we get some critical thinking here" whenever customers ask me stupid ass questions that could be easily answered by things such as Looking At The Packaging and Reading The Labels

tried to ask a coworker who is an older woman if she has a mobility aid for her Lupus that helps her to kinda like talk about it a bit and see what helps her and she told me a bit about how she used to have one but now she takes a buncha drugs.
She thanked me for asking and then I told her I'm thinking about getting a rollator for my fibromyalgia because standing for too long really hurts me and she told me not to because I'm "young" and if I get one I'll be "too reliant on it".
Woman you're reliant on drugs like. I guess I could be reliant on drugs like you??? Idk??? like ma'am idk about you but I'm trying to ease my pain without being high AF 24/7
I went "well my friend uses a cane for their chronic pain and we're the same age" and she didn't really say anything after that like
So I told my friend abt it and they came in after their shift and literally the second they left, the coworker comes up to me and is like "so what do they use the cane for???"
Like hm imagine younger people having disabilities, no waaayyyy oh my god no way, no way, no way no way! Younger people??? Being disabled??? Needing mobility aids too???? WORM????

cw ableism, transphobia, general queerphobia
i work at [large grocery store chain] and specifically work at a customer service desk. i'm visibly trans (6'6 butch transfem) and visibly disabled (i use my cane all day when working) and constantly have customers say weird things about it. a "hey, do you mind if i ask why you use a cane / why your nametag says emily" doesn't bother me much. but it's when i get multiple customers saying "you don't need a cane you're too young (i'm 30)" or "what happened to your leg" or going "hahaha, emily! that's a good one! you're a boy and your name is emily!" etc etc etc. it gets incredibly exhausting on top of already doing a stressful job.
i've started matching my customers' energy by being weird back and it seems to be stopping my regulars from being weird in the future but we get a lot of new faces at the service desk every day. though free advice to anyone who has people ask "heh, what happened to you?" if they see your assistive device, just reply "i chose to be born disabled". it really awkwardly puts the ball back in the asker's court and most people get too uncomfortable to keep joking around with you.
anyways, i hope every visible minority who has to work a shitty job with casually bigoted customers has a lovely week and no weird questions/comments.

As someone who works in retail (at the tills in specific), I believe there should be such a thing as "supermarket etiquette" that everyone should follow.
I am BEGGING you, PLEASE put a divider in between your shopping and the shopping of the person behind you. I cannot count how many times I have scanned someone else's shopping and apologised for it when in reality it's cause the customers haven't put dividers down. No, it doesn't matter that your shopping is a distance away from the customer I'm currently serving, put a divider between them ya lazy bastard.
Please don't hold your discount card in my face just milliseconds after I served the customer in front of you. Yes, I will scan your discount card but PLEASE BE PATIENT !
For the love of all things that are holy, PLEASE don't ask a cashier if it's their first day if they seem flustered or don't know how to do something. You may mean well but it's really fucking rude and disrespectful, and recently it's been driving me up the walls. No, I've been working here for four months. If it was my first day I would warn you beforehand. Seriously who raised you to think that's appropriate to say to someone?
And I may be being a bit nitpicky here but if a cashier is about to go on their break/clock out for the day, please please please go to a different till, they will serve you.
I might do a part 2 if I think of any more

So after losing a crazy amount of weight over the past few months, I've decided to start tracking calories vs exercise daily. Not to lose weight, but to make sure I'm actually eating enough every day.
But now I'm just feeling depressed because I can't find a single calorie counting app that isn't 100% geared toward weight loss. Like, this is the app I'm using now:
Tumblr media
It's color coded, with red being "you ate more than your recommended calories per day" and green being "you met/stayed under your recommended calories per day."
But there's no indicator for "you ate way under your recommended calories per day are you ok?"
I just feel like having a day with an 1800 calorie deficit should at least send some kind of alarm. Maybe a little blue color, I dunno.
