Sometimes I forget that other writers don't have someone like my dad to ask all their questions to, which makes me feel super lucky, to be honest.

My dad is a knowledge sponge, he loves to learn and he absorbs the most interesting information, and he has a near eidetic memory. This means, I can ask him the weirdest questions and he has an answer most of the time.

Like, just today I asked him the average speed of an ATV and he gave me an answer right away. He just knew the answer. (It's 25 to thirty mph on average, but apparently, there are some that can get over 100)

I just remembered how excited I was about the Caretaker as a character . . . I thought they were going to slowly reveal their history as a spirit and bond with Solas over the course of the game, that they would have some piercing insight and tragic tale that would help us understand Solas better to save/defeat him. The fact that they only ended up being used to enchant stuff, drop hints, and open doors is a travesty.

Okay but do you know what really gets me?

There's no one left in-universe who can or will talk about Jaybin as he really was.

Bruce is the founder of the Jaybin Slander Department;

Alfred is no better.

Dick wasn't around much, didn't know him that well.

If Barbara ever interacted with him in his original run, I haven't found it yet.

I mean, he had some interactions with the Teen Titans, but was he really close with any of them?

I suppose Gordon could, assuming he isn't in on the Jason-bashing. I haven't seen it but I could be missing something.

And, well, Jason... somehow, I don't think anyone's asking Jason what he was like as a kid, nor is he really a reliable source. Autobiographical memory is weird.

No one in-universe will ever really talk about this bright, friendly, eager kid, and it's a tragedy.

He was smart and clever and had so much compassion.

He wanted so badly to help people, and he found joy in his work as Robin.

He had a dramatic flair and he was kind of a nerd and he was really funny on occasion.

He was so deeply, fundamentally good, and the fact that somehow his legacy has been twisted into one of anger and recklessness is honestly a crime.

It makes me so desperately sad that there's not a single character who can even start to undo the lasting damage of a four-decade smear campaign against a kid who did nothing to deserve it.

Hello, I kind of want to get back into TWST, but remember being annoyed about a lot of events that are just the characters being tourists in a place with no greater character development. Could you reccommend some events (outside of the main story) that actually have interesting moments with characters? One event I remember liking is that Rollo and Idia event.

I believe you’re thinking about the “hometown” events 😅, which only make up about 6 events out of the total ~25ish story events (not counting recurring events (like Master Chef/Culinary Crucibles or Sam’s New Year Sales or battle-oriented events). It’d be closer to around 8-9 if you count some of the Halloween events (GloMasq, Playful Land, etc.) as “just the characters being tourists […] with no greater character development.”

It’s true that most of Twst’s events don’t focus on character exploration or growth. They tend to just throw the characters into a silly situation and then showing us how they fare or how they rip each other apart. I often feel like these are such huge missed opportunities to expand on the characters we love 🙂‍↕️ but hey, this is the direction Twst chose to go with, so we have to roll with it.

If you’re specifically looking for story events that do further develop the boys and do it well (because there are events where they attempt to be deep and it’s not as successful) there’s:

Glorious Masquerade (the event you already mentioned; Idia connects with Rollo’s grief)

White Rabbit Fest (technically an accursed hometown event, but there’s a nice little arc in there about Deuce proving to his mom that he has changed his ways and no longer relies on violence to resolve spats with others)

Wish Upon a Star (a good showcase of how much Idia cares for his younger brother + foreshadowing for book 6, as well as show of Deuce’s drive)

Fairy Gala If/Remix (an exploration of Ortho’s independence and quest to define his own “evolution” following book 6; also has Silver shining + foreshadowing book 7)

Eternity Float (this one is technically also a hometown event that I have bias for, so—. It requires more reading between the lines, as the character growth is more subtle and technically already happened in Jade’s past; the purpose of the event is to see just how far Jade has come since his childhood days of simply watching people on the shore—now he can actually be among those very people)

Personally, I also think Ghost Marriage and Beans Day I + II had interesting interactions between the cast members. However, you won’t find any super complex character writing in them.

stan having severe issues from his dad and those years of being homeless that we keep on getting more info on but never really getting confronted on (the drifter catalogue and tijuana incident...), him being completely alone for like twenty years when running the shack before soos comes along to the point that 1998 is noted as his low point, and him not really learning about bill+what he did to ford until ages after he killed him if he ever did get the full context

while i think amnesia and everyone seeing him as a hero actually helped with stan's 'i'm a worse version of my brother' thing its still a lingering issue too and we now got him being insecure over his own hands

ford being immediately thrown from 'being tortured by bill' to 'being stuck in the multiverse and being chased by bounty hunters constantly', him fully expecting himself to die when destroying bill, and him only now being safe for the first time in 30 years ....relatively safe, he's still in constant danger because of course he is

idk in the end the series wants them to be happy and they deserve it, its why i wasn't too worried about the book being like 'ooh bill is back!! and the book is haunting ford' thing cos i knew they'll be ok

The more I get into this translation and am able to read other works, the more I fear that the “plain language” of cnovels are actually a manmade problem and a self-fulfilling prophecy. Some translators, for whatever reason, flattened out the metaphors and imagery in the works they translated, those translations became popular and widely spread, people began to acclimate to this way of writing as “just the way cnovels are,” other translators internalizing this idea pick up other cnovels to work on, rinse and repeat. Cause there’s no way tgcf is this colorful and yet only a trickle of that shines through into English.

In all seriousness though, I don't blame you for not knowing this story if you don't play Ovenbreak. Kingdom doesn't really explain anything at all (tbh I think they were counting on people to already know? But most of the CRK fandom is Kingdom only, unfortunately. Only oldies like me know the ancient texts at this point)

Once upon a time (we do not know when, they never say. I personally assume ancient times), Fire Spirit was a regular mortal man. His original name, life, and how he came to be where he ended up are a mystery; all we know is that he somehow became trapped within an eternal flame, which instantly began eating away at him, burning him alive

Pitaya Dragon happened upon him by chance, and was intrigued and amused by Fire Spirit's persistance. For all intents and purposes, he should've already died - but he hasn't. He keeps stubbornly clinging to life, even beyond what should be possible for mortals. Very interesting.

Fire Spirit begs Pitaya for help, for mercy, for salvation, even offering to give them whatever they want in exchange. Pitaya is yet more intrigued by this; a mortal, making an offer to a dragon? When the opposite is what tends to be true?

Pitaya agrees. How can he not? This is too interesting an opportunity to pass up, no? But far be it from him to make it so easy. Fire Spirit can end his dance with death if he drinks from a goblet of Lava Juice - which is highly dangerous magic lava that normally kills people lol

Fire Spirit takes it well. Unusually so. Pitaya is even more impressed by him. Thus, Pitaya gladly gives him the Red Dragon's Bead, an item containing a portion of their power

Fire Spirit takes it. His wounds are instantly mended. He is freed from the confines of the eternal flame. Now HE is the eternal flame, body and soul burned to ashes and born anew. Once a mortal, now an Elemental

So yeah, that's pretty much the gist of it. Fire Spirit was about to die, Pitaya found him still fighting for his life, Fire Spirit begs him for help, Pitaya is impressed with his apparent fortitude and says he'll help if he does something for him in turn, Fire Spirit agrees, he's given the Red Dragon's Bead and is thus resurrected and made into a new man. With the bead, he is immortal, has immense power, and is essentially co-owner of the Dragon's Valley; however, the price seems to be that his strength and life force are permanently bound to Pitaya's, and he must do his part in upholding cosmic order by guarding the Flow of Life for all eternity. (And... Whatever it was that Pitaya eventually wished for. Whatever it was...)

Y por lo que fue así que decidí abandonar de acuerdo a mis convicciones esta comunidad. Ignoro si en la actualidad exista, de ser así mis mejores deseos para cada uno de ellos.
