Turning back

I was asked to share a spell I use to turn things back on people. This is the closest thing I have. I don't use it so much to turn actions back on people. But I do use it to encourage reflection on their actions. I don't use it often. Mostly because it requires I get my butt to the dollar store for main item and I tend towards not going to the dollar store. You will need:

A compact mirror with a mirror on both sides. If this is difficult to find, I have in a pinch put aluminum foil on the other side. Not ideal, but it will work. Twine A white candle A black candle A slip of brown paper To begin I like to center myself and think about the specific actions I would like this person to reflect on. I try to keep all my spells as specific at possible. I do this for two reasons. The first being I have found that it truly makes the spells much more successful. And secondly, it keeps that energy exchange very focused. Write the name of the person on the paper. Add notes about the actions you want them to reflect on. As I said, I like to keep it specific, and I have used code and dates etc for that. That part is up to you. Fold the paper tightly and place in the compact. Light both candles. Tie the twine around the compact. Begin dripping both colors of candle wax on the twine. It does not need to be perfect. We are just sealing it up in a primarily symbolic way. When you feel you have done that, it is time to put away the compact. This part is really about how you want to do it. I have a drawer in my altar where I have stored them. I have just buried them. If it is someone you are totally over, throw it away. It really doesn't matter. Or at least it hasn't in my experience. I don't tend to do a lot of verbal spells so there are no chants for this one. But if you are a verbal caster, something like: Take this time to think About how your actions impact Take this time to think About how they have harmed (And here would be where to list those harms) With this I turn my back on your mirror. So mote it be. Or create your own. This spell has worked for me in that it either helped me see that the person's actions weren't worth saving the relationship over. It has also brought me apologies. Have a magical day.

one of the things i love about wha is how clearly the magic and ideas the girls learn and have build on top of each other over time. the continuing theme of magic as solutions, and your own spells can be made by adapting what you know into something new.

in one of her first uses of magic, coco uses fabric to sail through the air at the dagda mountains; she later creates the mantle of flight. the air twisting seal she learns to use to pick fruit becomes part of a spell to create rain underneath the sea. agott uses a bird of light to distract people at the river; later, we learn her love for the decorative seals, and her knowledge comes in use to bring people joy, and to help with the curtain leech. every person has their own magic, and everyone's magic connects together to create new things.

no magic is useless; no magic is too small or too basic. no magic is unloved.

I was reading the Orphic Argonautica last night and the author has mentioned the various methods of divination Apollo knows and guess what? One of them is prophesying by studying the entrails of organisms. As soon as I read that I was reminded of your headcanon of Apollo being into hepatoscopy for divination and I giggled.

Hehe, so fun fact, the overall practice of divination by studying the entrails of animals (including blood, lungs, intestines and so forth) is extispicy while hepatoscopy is specifically using the liver in prophecy and divination readings.

If, like magic in old text exactly like the sort Medea is described as using, the types of divination spoken about in the texts are reflections of the popular divination cultures of the time, I much rather prefer ascribing those to Apollo than I do some vague, somewhat mysterious power which he uses to see the will of the fates, especially since it's mentioned a few times that he'll teach his sons the language of the birds and how to read their signs and so on and so forth.

In short: HEPATOSCOPY APOLLO IS COOL!! HE'S SO NEAT!! Apollo at the altar who predicts the coming droughts and famines from the entrails of his flock!! It's just such a neat little image (to me)!

Also the Orphic Argonautica bangs, genuinely I hope you enjoy it! Orpheus is an insane man and I do not think him along with the collective subspecies of mythical man known as 'sons of Apollo' get enough credit for how truly unhinged they are at any given point in time.

It was odd to be back. Nice, but odd. She caught Galena glancing her way as if she’d disappear when he wasn’t looking, though he tried to be polite about it and say nothing when she caught him. He’d only smile at her as she lay back on the couch and helped him review footage from another salvage run.

Distractions were welcome. Having been all hands on deck for so long had taken its toll on her more than she realized, but she still felt like she needed a task. Scrubbing through hours of footage on his tablet was close enough to a job that she could put her mind to it without feeling the creeping insanity of her life—all growls and hisses and hair standing on end—scratching around in the hallways she avoided.

When a chime at the door startled her, she was inwardly relieved that it was Galena who moved to answer it, though the stiff greetings and awkward hellos of a familiar voice caused her to sit upright.

Sure enough, Galena led a familiar long-eared figure to Pyrite, who was as wary about the unexpected visit as their visitor was uncertain about where to let her gaze rest in a colleague’s private residence.

“Shale,” Pyrite tried to offer a smile as she stood, “Shouldn’t you be off duty, takin’ a rest? Not that you aren’t welcome, ‘course.”

The eldite smiled back, finding her ease and a more sensible place for her attentions to be set despite it being obvious how strange it might have been to see Pyrite in her civvies. “Someone has to sift through all the new data we have. But don’t worry, I’ll take the long way back to the Stein after I finish business here.”

“Business? Should I take a walk?” Galena interjected between them, half in jest. “Actually, I came with a delivery for both of you,” Shale said, her smile tepid.

Pyrite and Galena didn’t even need to exchange looks to sense the other’s unease as the eldite woman fished something from her pocket that was flashed at both briefly before being offered to Pyrite. A small case was carefully laid in her palm, a glowing data shard within. Thin, flat, barely the length and width of a hyune finger and pulsing with the familiar purple-red glow of electrope. Pyrite looked up from the case to its courier, confused.

“Among the data Cahciua left us were encrypted files with each of our names. Yours was also addressed to Galena.” She explained, crossing her arms and shifting her weight to one hip. “Your file has been uploaded to this device with a cipher. I didn’t decrypt anyone’s files myself, so I have no idea what’s in them.” She shrugged at both hyune lightly, only the suggestion of a smile on her lips. “She didn’t intend to leave any unfinished business, I suppose.”

Pyrite and Galena did share a look this time, and Shale took that as a cue to make a polite retreat. Cool and kind as she was, personal affairs were out of her depth—especially those of a group of rebels who'd all lost a dear friend and leader without warning. She was liable to skip the scenic walk and take the leynodes to scurry back to the safety of her terminal where she might put this mutually uncomfortable conversation out of her mind.

“That’s all. Let me know if you have any trouble with it.” She said as she parted, turning to leave the two before so much as thanks could be offered. Not that they had a clue how to disengage either.

As their door slid closed again, Galena looked to Pyrite to gauge a reaction that she was intent not to show. Not that it mattered much—they had both learned too well that an absence was its own kind of presence. Instead she closed her fingers around the shard case and breathed deep.

“Assumin’ you got some idea o’ wha’s on tha’,” Galena stated simply. Pyrite nodded. “Some.”

He offered his palm, and Pyrite passed off the shard case carefully, as if afraid to drop it. With just as much reverence, he set it down atop a counter. He paused with his hand resting on it before tearing away to Pyrite, who stared at the shard, contemplative and yet vacant. His hands met her arms, his forehead pressed to hers.

“Then we’ll leave it be a while.” “Yeah...” she agreed without any hint of investment in the word. It would only be a matter of time before not knowing drove her mad, but she wouldn’t do it alone at least. Not this time.

She took a breath to shake herself free of her thoughts and reasserted. “Yeah.”
