hobie’s line of work requires him to jump language barriers. he knows his accent isn’t easy to understand so he knows how to translate some of his words so others can understand him.

he learned sign language while he was homeless, interacting with others from many different backgrounds. hobie utilizes it A LOT. sign language makes it easy for him to communicate and also express how he feels.

when fighting with his normal spider society teammates, he’ll teach them some key signs and terms he’ll sign to them when in combat or in stealth missions. this makes communication easier in long distance situations, and even helps catch the enemy off guard!

often times, hobie finds himself signing at his concerts. whenever he speaks or says words before his songs, he signs whatever he says with it. he wants to ensure everyone knows what’s happening and can enjoy the concert to its fullest.

he’s also the biggest advocate for everyone learning sign language. he hates how the world is set up to where those who need sign language are stuck behind a barrier, and wants that to change.

in a relationship, both you and hobie use sign language in cases either of you go non-verbal!

when hobie goes non-verbal, it’s because he’s exhausted. his day consists of fighting enemies, fascists, and corrupt government. of course he’s tired! when tired he’ll opt to sign as communication, too tired to even speak at that point. if you know sign language, perfect! please use it to communicate with him, it’s important to him. if you don’t, that’s okay! he’s your teacher now, teaching you all about the language and the culture with it.

whether you are mute, go non-verbal, or are someone with hearing loss, communication is never an issue with him. he knows how to sign effectively and efficiently, his communication and understand skills in sign language being amazing for someone self-taught. hobie always wants you to know that communication is never an issue.

even if you don’t require sign language, hobie is still going to use it. he uses it when he talks regularly, and its important to him you understand and maybe use it too.

he loves signing i love you. whether you both sign it with arms crossed over your hearts, or use the handshape to signify it, it’s still regularly used between you two. it’s something he appreciates greatly.

(also another little thing but he LOVES the sound his rings make against each other when he signs. i love the sound my rings make so im PROJECTING)

overall, sign language is an important part of hobie’s life. he wants everyone to be able to talk to him, get to know him. because no one deserves to not be understood solely because they know a different language than them!

8) Do you take inspiration from real life? If so how do you incorporate it into your fics? sometimes... i take my experiences of universal feelings (like the things i do when im VERY happy or VERY sad and then apply them to characters). characters like natsume (like. loners. etc.) are characters i relate to a lot so i can cherry pick little experiences ive had and fashion them to fit them. i never use the specific way i was abused (tmi) in my writing ever but the feelings that come from it are pretty common after being hurt, so i like to use those. ig long story short i keep the emotional part of my own experiences but discard the specifics.

14) What is something you wrote in a fic that you are hoping readers picked up on but you don't know if they did? And/or, what is something that you were excited that readers did pick up on? im primarily thinking abt all things rancid and delicate rn bc i think that one garnered a lot of attention compared to my other ga fics and also since it was one i put a lot of artistic effort into...

anyway i was very lucky, especially for that fic, that i had a couple of readers who would comment long reviews, discussing p much everything that stood out to them or even quoting passages they liked, so i could see what people were paying special attention to. when im writing i like to do extended metaphors or running themes that keep threads connected. in atrad specifically, there was the heart thing, though that was pretty obvious.

i think in subjectives, i want to imply that theres feelings OTHER than hatred between natsume and mikan because. well. its a romance fic. so i was happy to see comments pointing out that, even tho there was nothing specifically alluding to it, my readers were noticing that there was smth more there! lovely <3

(not in a fic but i wrote a line once that was supposed to be a metaphor i was very proud of but when my mom read it she took it seriously and was like ???? THAT REALLY HAPPENED? and idk if its bc she just didnt catch on or if the metaphor wasnt as well-written as i would have liked.)

16) Do you have a method for getting characters to sound/feel in character? i rly wish i had a more concrete way to put this...

i think its really crucial to have an understanding of the character: what they want, what they fear, their relationships with others, etc--both in the fic and in canon. try to keep the important features that stand out in the characters so they resemble the canon version. (for mikan, for example, that tends to be her optimism, friendliness, and kindness, but also her quick temper and occasionally unreasonable nature and for natsume, his impatience with most people, tendency to be curt and evasive, disillusionment with life in general, etc.)

its key not to stray from those more staple characteristics, even in au, but they can be stretched to fit a role (and this is just keeping them in character from the canon. sometimes ooc is the goal).

sometimes ill just stare at actual art from the manga, like a panel of natsume or mikan or somebody, and think abt lines of dialogue or certain actions, and i'll ask myself if i can see that character saying that or doing that. usually this method just makes me feel rly weird abt writing abt them at all, tho, so its more of a control method rather than some critical part of my process.

yeah ig its just understanding the character in canon and how those traits are reflected in ur fic and keeping those key traits consistent.

ULTIMATE AFFIRMATION GUIDE

ok so lately i’ve been getting a bunch of requests for affirmations for specific things, which is fine bc i’m very happy to give y’all affirmations, but it also made me realize how a lot of ppl actually don’t know how to make and use their own affirmations. so in this post, i will be teaching you guys how to create powerful affirmations and how to use them in an effective manner!!

˚୨୧⋆｡˚ ⋆ WHAT ARE AFFIRMATIONS ?

before we begin, let me tell you exactly what affirmations are. affirmations are statements you repeat that affirm something is true, which means that affirmations can be both positive and negative. according to the law of assumption, what you assume to be true will manifest, and repeating affirmations is an effective way to change your assumptions about your desires. another thing to keep in mind is that affirmations = your thoughts. you are technically affirming all day long without even if you don’t consciously realize it. this post is to help you take control of those thoughts (affirmations) and to make them work in YOUR favor.

˚୨୧⋆｡˚ ⋆ STEP 1: CREATION !

the first step to making affirmations is to decide what you want! it can literally be anything. whether it’s money, beauty, friends, an SP, a career, etc, just decide on what you want to manifest. have something in mind? awesome! now i want you to do a quick exercise that will help you make VERY powerful affirmations.

close your eyes (or not lol) and imagine yourself as the person who already has this desire. i want you to then consider this: what kind of thoughts are you thinking, now that you have this desire? really get into the mindset of being at the end of your desire and try to naturally think of some thoughts that would align with your desire. once you’re done, simply write down those thoughts or just pick a few to remember.

here’s a simple example of the process: say your desire is to be a billionaire. you would then start to imagine that you are now a billionaire…then you would ask yourself, "what thoughts would i be thinking if i were a billionaire?" it might be along the lines of….

i love being a billionaire

i can buy whatever i want

i am financially comfortable and free

i can’t wait to buy (insert expensive item)!

i live in my dream house

…and so forth. also remember that you can use this process for ANY desire!! and a helpful tip: MAKE THEM SOUND NATURAL! create affirmations that sound like how you would talk or think in real life. by doing this, you will feel as if you already have your desires, since they will feel natural to you!

˚୨୧⋆｡˚ ⋆ STEP 2: USING THEM !

alright onto the most important part: how to use affirmations in a way that will quickly and effectively manifest your desires.

(disclaimer: these are my personal beliefs and assumptions, you don’t have to agree, but this is what works best for me and many others)

first, let me tell you what NOT to do when affirming…

affirm 24/7: a common limiting belief that many people have, especially when first starting off, is that they feel like they have to affirm ALL day like a robot to get their desires quickly. they mindlessly repeat affirmations and they do it wayyy too often. the reason why this is pretty ineffective is that (1) you’re not really paying attention to what you are actually thinking and (2) it comes from a place of desperation as if NEED to affirm a million times to “get” your desires.

having way too many affirmations: when you have too many affirmations, it becomes much harder to consistently affirm each one or to even remember to affirm most of them. try sticking to only about 1-4.

only affirming for like a day then giving up: this is pretty straightforward, but consistency is key for affirmations. don't stop affirming just bc you're seeing the opposite of your desire in the 3d!

⋆ ˚✯✩. BEST TIPS FOR USING AFFIRMATIONS !

ok so now that that's out of the way, let me give you guys some of the best tips i have to help you get the most out of your affirmations! again these are MY personal beliefs that work for me <3

affirm only when you feel like it: don’t make affirming a chore or a job! it should feel 100% natural and easy. i recommend affirming whenever you are reminded of your desire. for example, when you think about your SP, you can affirm “they are so in love with me” or whatever other affirmations you have about your SP.

affirm right when you wake up and when you’re falling asleep: this is optional but HIGHLY recommended. this is because your conscious mind is much less awake and your subconscious is WAY more open to information. neville goddard himself swore up and down with this technique.

affirm with confidence: whenever you do affirm, affirm as if it's an indisputable FACT!! know that you are the operant power, therefore what you affirm is what WILL manifest no matter what. even if you don’t believe it is a fact at first, KEEP AFFIRMING! it will feel more natural the more you affirm.

affirm consistently: while you don’t have to affirm all day robotically, still try to affirm at least a few times every day. as i stated above, consistency is KEY with affirmations.

keep affirming despite what you see in the 3d: this is probably the MOST important tip on the list, but you guys, don’t quit affirming just because you see something undesirable in the 3d. i know the 3d may seem difficult and permanent but it is NOT! everything comes from within, so walk by faith, not by sight. simply acknowledge the circumstance, KEEP affirming, and KNOW that it will change.

use self-concept affirmations alongside specific desire affirmations: use affirmations that affirm the fact that you are extremely powerful, a master at manifesting, you manifest instantly or anything of this nature. this will make everything a million times easier.

bonus technique: RAMPAGE BABY!! ok i know this is a little controversial, BUT if you ever need a confidence boost, literally just give yourself a long rambling pep talk with the affirmations. you're essentially just hyping yourself up, telling yourself that you ARE that bitch who now has their desire. this post is an excellent example of what i mean!!

˚୨୧⋆｡˚ ⋆ SUMMARY

affirmations are statements that imply you already have your desires

create your affirmations by thinking of the thoughts you would have if you had your desires. choose about 1-4 statements, less is more.

affirm when you think abt your desire, when you fall asleep, and when you wake up. you don’t have to mindlessly affirm all day long. and when you do affirm, affirm as if it is an absolute fact.

persist in these affirmations, KNOW that you're going to get your desire in the 3d, and don’t seek validation from outside of you.

Stephen Strange could play around with an apple and make it rot and go back to fresh and unbitten. They tryna tell me he couldn't have done the same glowy time-turning thing for Tony Stark as he was dying of his injuries? Enough so he could be saved? Also the whole team hand-holding thing in Guardians Of The Galaxy, why didn't they try that? People give me the excuse that Quill was a half-god at the time and I'm like ??? Thor is a God! On the Avengers team they also had The Hulk, not one but two fecken super soldiers, A mighty powerful Spider-Man, Dr. Strange and his magic buddies, The Scarlet witch, and mutherfucken Captain Marvel?! They couldn't have done the same thing to save Tony? To stand together in that epic battle against Thanos and his homies? Why were the rUsSos so willing to kill RDJ off, he was like one of the best things in the entire MCU. They could have thought something up to save him if they wanted to. Also I'm PMS:ing hard and I just get so upset sometimes with how they let go of Tony in such a way. Sorry, I just had to vent! ^_^

I think you’re completely right. I even had a seven paragraph rant typed out explaining why; I backspaced it all since it was long winded, but it all lead up to the conclusion that Tony died and sacrificed everything for nothing—for people who didn’t deserve or appreciate it. Not because he had to die, but because they wanted him dead. I went over a few key moments in the MCU where his unfair treatment is revealed, but here are two main ones:

In the beginning, he was originally rejected from the Avengers, and proceeded to save everybody in the battle of NY. Then, Steve Rogers still had his name go first on the memorial placard even though he barely did anything.

And in the end, they cut the scene on the endgame battlefield where every single hero took a knee to honour Tony. (I guess we should be grateful he got a funeral since Natasha got fuck all too. Easy to see who the writers’ favourites are.)

All that to show that he’s disrespected by writers and therefore the other characters themselves. Nothing he did was ever good enough for anybody, and he was consistently written off as an irredeemable douche. They gave him his happy ending and took it away. 😃 (although I would argue over whether an ending with Pepper was ideal since she mostly complained and rejected his identity for their entire relationship—again, a writer issue bc they tend to make women discontent nags. But still.)

I don’t know. It’s just depressing really. Tony didn’t have to die and he shouldn’t have. I mean…he’s iconic and a badass, so him dying while making the ultimate sacrifice and then getting a statue and documentary etc. is an excellent fuck-you to his doubters/enemies. But of course, it’s not as effective as it should be because people STILL talk about shit his pre-IM1 character, and Beck and his minions came for the barf glasses in FFH because they couldn’t let him rest. (Not to mention Toomes in Homecoming was anti Tony too as if he caused the Battle of NY—they even make Spider-Man villains be villains of Tony they hate him so much.) (even the Iron Man trilogy villains aren’t bad people Tony decided to stop himself, they were specifically people who HATED TONY. Stane and Hammer out of jealousy etc., Vanko for something Howard did to his dad, and Killian bc Tony was mean to him once.)

And that’s all just canon bullshit. Don’t get me started on the MCU fandom. I once saw a tik tok where someone criticized the new Captain America bc his intro on the football field with the marching band was too similar to Iron Man and his cheerleaders in IM2, meanwhile Steve Rogers used to have dancers and a play while he toured the front lines??? Like out of all the reasons this fool could’ve criticized John Walker, he chose to compare his MARCHING BAND INTRO to Tony’s Expo cheerleaders. Like what a fucking reach!!! (Meanwhile golden boy Steve can do whatever he wants and still be worthy of mjolnir) That’s how much people hate him lmao. Our king should’ve just snapped Peter back and let everyone else rot.

𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀 - you heard it here folks in im love with asahi. i spend every second coming up w headcanons for him so i decided: why not dump it all onto a soft, fluffy post? also ik this isnt the first time someone has posted something along these lines im not saying im original thanks okay byeee

☆ asahi is one of the softest people to live with, this is no surprise. he wakes you up with a cup of your favourite hot drink, whether it be tea, coffee or hot chocolate. he often prepares it before he leaves for his daily morning run.

☆ steal his clothes all you want, he loves it. when he first sees you wearing one of his shirts, he’s a blushing mess and he can’t form words for the first five or so minutes. you think that you’ve killed him.

☆ if his s/o is accident prone, he would basically baby proof the place. anytime he heard a crash or a thump, he’d come running to ensure that you’re okay. 

☆ sometimes it’s the other way around. because he’s so big, sometimes he doesn’t really watch where his limbs are going so he bumps into a table or maybe into the corner of a shelf. 

☆ he likes watermelon gum and breath mints, so there’s always a stash of it on his bedside table.

☆ he owns several stuffed animals and keeps them on a shelf in his room, i don’t make the rules here. he has a few that are his favourites, like an oversized teddy bear that he used to hug to sleep everynight.

☆ if his s/o just so happened to have longer hair, he’d love to braid it. despite his big and wide hands, he has a way with hair. his older sister taught him how to braid it, most likely.

☆ the biggest cuddler. ever. the big spoon and the little spoon always changes, even if you’re a lot smaller than him. sometimes, he just wants to be held and let the world around him melt away.

☆ if you’re comfotable with it, he would absolutely LOVE giving you back hugs at unexpected times. he’d be very nervous the first time around, his arms hovering beside you until you leaned back and bumped into his chest as a way to say “it’s okay, you can hug me.”

☆ he likes running errands for you, even if you don’t want him to. his love language is acts of service, so doing things for you is just second nature.

☆ when he’s designing, cleaning, basically going around everyday life, he hums to himself. whether it’s a random tune that he heard on the radio or a nostalgic song that was once sung to him, more often than not you’ll hear him quietly humming to himself. 

☆ he always tries to postpone you leaving. he’ll pout at you, “forget” things to get you to look for them, all those things. in reality, he’s just doesn’t want you to go.

☆ patience is key with this man. sometimes, he gets very nervous about things and just needs reassurance. if you give him that, he’ll be by your side forever. just be his little cheerleader. please.

☆ he loves animals. he probably asks you about getting one from time to time and will get so excited if you even debate it. he might seem shy, but he’s easily exciteable, especially when it comes to animals.

☆ he also likes plants. he’ll take care of them like they’re his biological child. he’ll say good morning to them, give them names, water them, all of those things. 

☆ as he becomes more comfortable around you, the two of you start having late night conversations.

☆ they can be complete nonsense or they can be about your insecurities, life struggles and more. he always likes it when you have deep conversations, he thinks they’re very heartfelt and that it helps to build your relationship.

☆ after a rough day, he’d want nothing more than to just lay on your lap, stomach or shoulder and listen to you talk about your own day. 

☆ he always, and i mean always, asks you beforehand when he invites friends over. these friends are mainly the karasuno team, which is notorious for getting loud. though, more often than not, he only has noya, daichi and sugawara at home because the whole team would be far too many.

☆ if you have an interest, he would let you sit and talk about it and he would listen for as long as you wanted. he enjoys seeing how happy said interest makes you, so he guesses that letting you talk about it might make you even happier.

☆ his number one goal is to make sure that you’re happy, coming off that last point. if the two of you have been apart for more than three hours, he sends you a message reminding you that he loves you and that he misses you. a lot.

☆ goodnight and good morning messages from him are a MUST. whether it’s a small “good morning! <3″ or a lengthy “goodnight ( preferred nickname ), i’ll see you when you wake up. i love you and you look very cute while you’re resting,  hehe, (´｡• ᵕ •｡`) ♡”

☆ his favourite nicknames consist of food based ones like honey, pudding and pumpkin. also prince. it makes him feel nice and fancy.

Okay spoiler alert if you have watched 4x04 yet.

Okay so this episode wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. But don't get me wrong there was stuff that made me so mad. But I don't want to talk about mostly bc s3 made me not care about any other character. But I will say this of course no one was upset with Kaleb and of course he still got the girl 😑😑😑.

Okay now for the Handon stuff, I was really doubtful that we would get any type of Handon reunion this episode. But what we did get broke me and killed me on the spot. Like they were happy to have each other and had 2 seconds of happiness before that ripped away from them AGAIN. But what really broke me is when Hope told Alaric that her humanity turned off the second she stabbed Landon. So that means she didn't do it on her own feel will. Her body just did it for her. Bc her heart and mind just knew that her killing Landon would just be to painful for her to handle even for second that it just turned off her humanity so she wouldn't have to. Talk about heart breaking, it's gonna take me forever to recover from that.

I also just saw this post that I couldn't agree with more. Bc this episode just proved that Hope is not toxic to Landon. Bc Landon was holding a knife made out Hopes blood, so if she was really toxic to Landon him hold her blood would have hurt him or done something to him but it didn't(okay now before anyone says plot hole. Yes there do be plot holes but it's never that big it's always something small or ends up not having a purpose to the story at all). And nothing happened to his body at all when knife stabbed him, he only died bc he was stabbed in the heart. So all of that plus Bretts interview just proves that Hope isn't toxic to Landon. I already know/ and seen h*sies and antis take that interview out of context or just read one part of it(but I'm not gonna argue with people over the internet it's not worth it). Plus there's also the fact that interviews can sometimes be misleading bc they don't want to give anything way. And I think the only reason they gave away tribird Hope and Rebekah is bc they want it to make sure they would get more views.

But anyways here's what I got from Bretts interview. That Hope was only "toxic" to Landon bc of Malivore. Bc of his influence and bc he was inside Landon. But with Malivore dead things will be different. Because that key compent isn't in the way anymore and he also things will be different. Meaning that with out of picture Hope isn't "toxic" to Landon anymore.

But if they really want it go a different way and say that Hope was toxic to Landon(and I don't mean that whole theory about bc he wasn't a Phoenix anymore) then go with the fact that she was only toxic to Landon bc a part of him was like Malivore. And when Hope killed him with that blood knife she killed the part of him that was like Malivore. So when he comes back she's no longer toxic to him. But either way they would HAVE to show us on the show one way or another for us to know for sure bc one interview isn't enough to know anything. Like Hopes blood somehow gets on or in Landon. And showing it not hurting him at all or it burning him or something.

Same! I just had no hope for this episode and was expecting the worst, which really helped because it wasn’t as bad as I thought! For sure, there was still messed up stuff that wasn’t consistent, was ooc, and made no sense, but it was still better than I thought it would be. Oh yeah, haha, truly hilarious that Kaleb suffered no consequences for his actions. No one got upset, Cleo had no problems with any of it. All is forgiven, he’s allowed to do what he wants because of love, but not Hope. Unbelievable.

And me too, especially when Hope said “see you on the other side” to freaking Alaric?! That pissed me off! That’s a Handon line! And then “I’m counting on it” was actually said by Malivore in another scene? Wow. That was such a cruel, cruel trick. So especially when that happened, I really had almost no hope of getting a reunion. But yess we got one! It killed me too. But ikr! Seriously 2 seconds and then they got screwed over again! And after waiting all this time?? So not fair, but better than nothing at least. Ooh but yes, Hope turning off her humanity! It broke me as well, seriously, the fact that her turning off her humanity was just her natural response, she didn’t even have to think about it. I do feel like she would have done it with her own free will anyway just because it makes sense that she wouldn’t be able to handle it after Landon dying. So I’m sad about it but honestly happy at the same time because this is finally something that makes sense! They’ve done so much crap lately that hasn’t made any sense, but this finally did! And was something I had wanted as well, if Landon had to die, it was the most fitting reaction for Hope.

Oh you make a good point about the blood knife! I hadn’t thought of that, yeah that does basically prove she’s not toxic to him? I mean, I guess it could be a plot hole but that would be a pretty big one. So hopefully that means something. And you’re right! I didn’t realize that either, his body didn’t dissolve when he was stabbed! Yeah, that kinda proves that he dissolved for some other reason, because that just doesn’t fit. And I saw Brett’s interview, which was pretty vague and I never know quite what to think when it comes to what is said in interviews. Idk what antis are saying, but not sure why they’d decide to focus on that. Even if Hope was toxic to Landon, I don’t think that would stop them from being together, they’d want to stay together either way. Hope wanted to with golem Landon when she thought he was the real Landon, and I’m sure Landon would feel the same way. So it’s not as if the antis win if Hope is toxic to Landon anyway. And true, I think a lot of interviews are misleading. I mean, Danielle saying Hope and Landon were gonna have a “readjustment period,” which you wouldn’t think would mean Landon dead/in limbo and Hope without her humanity, so you never really know. And I agree, they definitely want people to watch knowing tribrid Hope is happening and Rebekah is coming.

You could be right about the interview, and that’s a good theory, with Hope killing the part of Landon that was like Malivore so he wouldn’t be affected after. And actually, in the past I’ve kinda wondered if it could be similar to Harry Potter, in a way, since they had once compared Malivore to Voldemort. hey - this is one of the mods of the bi jon project. we don't actually dislike or disagree with pan jon at all, we just want to make a project focused on and celebrating bisexuality. our carrd is a bit rambling, but frankly we were trying our best/overcompensating to try and make sure people didn't misunderstand us and do - well, this. our intentions are good, and it's really kind of disenheartening to see all the hate we've gotten for what was meant to be a positive project. (1)

you're under no obligation to answer these, but i saw some of your posts in the tag and felt like reaching out because you did give us even the tiniest bit of slack in good faith. honestly, if you have any advice about what in our carrd is so overwhelmingly bad, we'd be happy to hear it. we've been trying to respond to the overwhelming amount of criticism we've got in a positive way, and take peoples' suggestions. (2)

as for why 'no anti-antis' was at the bottom of our rules list, it's legitimately bc we were trying so hard to be preventative about this negativity that we forgot to add it when we first posted the blog, and just remembered later. again, you're under no obligation to answer these, i just feel like no one's really actually letting us defend ourselves/are taking things in as bad faith a way as possible. pitting ace & bi identities and people against each other REPEATEDLY,  

starting off with a guilt trippy tone and maintaining it throughout (in my experience this is the #1 best way to receive backlash because people do not want to participate in events where you feel like youre being guilted into it, which going into scrutinizing detail over there not being enough content and passing judgement onto authors or artists over it is something that comes across as guilt trippy.),

repeatedly equating asexuality with sex repulsion (not to get into the misleading information about modteam aspec identity breakdowns, since you claimed that 3/4 of the team are aspec, which is technically correct, but what you didnt say was that only one is acespec. surely you know that [allosexual] aro and [alloromantic] ace are not interchangeable) and calling using biromantic over bisexual a “misunderstanding” of the identity as if how to define romantic vs sexual attraction (how to divide, if or if not to divide, use interchangeably different labels) isnt a deeply personal choice ace people who experience romantic attraction make, 

claiming that bisexual jon is canon (he isn’t. this is why people are suspicious of anti-other mspec identities sentiments. which theyre right, if youll be so kind as to stick around til the last paragraph) and repeatedly implying that the reason there isnt “enough” content centering bi jon because the aces are simply unable to not fixate on his asexuality (again, pitting identities against each other),

making the banned ship list way needlessly confusing and including ships that dont even include jon to it, which simply comes across as some kind of a list of bad ships, idk. a way to bypass this would simply be to say “we are looking for portrayals of healthy relationships!” and that couldve just been it. if you felt that that wouldnt exclude specific ships (eg. jondaisy that a lot of people write as a relationship between trauma survivors who have done very bad things trying to get better and learning to trust each other) it is possible to simply say “the modteam is squicked[/triggered] by ships with daisy/elias/peter and we’d like to read all of the works submitted so we’re asking not to receive submissions with those ships.” hating ships is literally completely normal but making rules hard to parse is going to attract questions, especially when the implication is that ships are excluded on the grounds of morality, and a blatant power difference ship (jonelias) is equated with jondaisy, which is from what ive seen almost exclusively shown to be a relationship between equals. that makes people EXTREMELY confused about where the line is. thats why youre getting so many questions about this.  

in general the carrd was spotty, guilt trippy, and needlessly moralizing where it definitely did not need to be. the key to getting people to engage without getting backlash is to make the event seem fun. when your carrd is filled with stuff about unrelated negative stuff people are not going to think it’s a fun event at all. 

and none of this even gets into the fact that at least one of the mods has a history of open hostility against pan people. i heard through the grapevine that he has since made a fauxpology about it, but frankly it already shone through in the language used in the event descriptions. its extremely hard to take any of this is good faith when it is easy to see that one of the organizers is quite fucking clear about thinking pansexuality is biphobic and the carrd is or at least used to be full of anti-pan (and other mspec identity) dogwhistles, and is notorious in some of the tma fic author circles for being extremely fucking nasty about trans men writing fic he doesn’t like to the point of pretending that we’re all cis people (in case youre not keeping track that is misgendering us by implication) because he doesn’t like it. i think some of you (or maybe all of you? idk) in general could stand to examine whether your engagements and participations in the fandom have been at all about having fun or adding positivity to anything, or simply making posts about what other people are doing wrong. it seems that every post i see from anyone in this group is guilt trippy and authoritative, and sadly this translated directly into the event. 

when youre, say, a trans man whose first touch to one of the mods was a post about how fic where trans men have piv sex with cis men is hurting him personally and making it a moral issue and not a matter of a simple preference to the point where he feels comfortable making claims about the trans men (and transmasc nonbinary people) writing fic about trans characters re: their gender or whether theyre fetishizing trans men, your willingness to engage in good faith with an event hosted by him that features numerous red flags is not going to be unconditional. 

im sorry to hear that it has been bad for your mental health, and idk whats fucking going on with this event anymore, but my good faith interpretations have diminished significantly since i saw the shit tmc specifically has been saying about pansexual people and pansexuality as an identity label. i have no clue where the rest of you stand but tmc has repeatedly, consistently shown himself to be unable to act in good faith towards anyone other than people who agree with him.

Hcs for one of the most underrated boys in this entire franchise

Ok, so:

It took a long time for him to become confident in his quirk and properly control it, but he worked hard to train it before coming to U.A

It’s canon that he grew up in a factory town, So I feel like he has basic mechanical knowledge about how certain systems like conveyor belts work.

This, along with his quirk makes him very popular among the support course students!

He’s constantly being hounded to come to the support studio to “hang out”, but he knows that it’s mainly so that they can use his quirk, and he’s tired.

His main friend group consists of Hiryu Rin, Sen Kaibara, and Kosei Tsuburaba.

They became friends after their training exercise, when they were all put in a group together; Awase and Rin were the heroes, Kaibara and Tsuburaba were the villains.

Tsuburaba was chasing Awase, who was distracting him so Rin could get past Kaibara, and to the missile.

Tsuburaba was gaining on him, and yelled: “YOU READY TO GET YO A** BEAT?!”

Awase, in the heat of the moment, replied: “ NAH! I’M A BAD B*TCH, YOU CAN’T BEAT ME!

It was a lot louder than intended, so Rin and Kaibara could hear the whole exchange and tried (key word: tried) their best to keep from laughing

Kaibara’s team won, but honestly they were too focused on the vine reference to care. 

More about his childhood:

He’s the second oldest of four siblings, two sisters, one younger brother.

His older sister is 20, and is in college, and is a visual arts major

His younger sister is a year younger than him, and is really athletic, she loves basketball

His youngest brother is four years younger than him, and quirkless, and got bullied a lot. 

This made Awase very protective over him growing up, and he’s very worried about his baby bro when at U.A, but things seem to be better for him, much to his relief.

These altercations at school, is what shaped his decision to be a hero, to protect those that people tend to overlook. 

He may not be the violent type, but he’s got a strong sense of justice too, so when he sees people ganging up on others in public, he ain’t afraid to go in there to break it up. 

He often wishes he could do more, and hates how people discriminate based on quirks. 

But enough about that, onto a lighter note!!

Awase would insult him to his face, but Pony holds him back all the time, bc she’s scared of Bakugo, and doesn’t want Awase to get hurt. 

Normally he’d shake her off and let him have it, but she reminds him too much of his brother.

He and Kendo bond over keeping Monoma in check, being the “older siblings” of class 1-B, and their chance encounters with Yaoyorozu.

Now he’s normally pretty chill, and calm, and generally doesn’t talk a lot.

And gets pretty decent grades, and has common sense

He might not be good at giving advice, but he’ll put his game down and you have his full attention. 

Like, Pony and Rin are homesick? He’ll listen to them vent, and tell him  funny stories about their (respective) home country, if it’ll make them feel better

Tokage or Komori want to talk about a new band or movie that came out? The guy might not be a fan, but it makes them happy, so cool.

Kuoiro is having trouble with his feelings for Komori, but doesn’t want to tell her because that’s not an option? Been there fella, just let it all out. 

Reiko is afraid that she’s weird? He’ll be right there with the reassurance, that she’s pretty cool, and even offer to go ghost hunting with her. 

Anyone who disrespects or insults his classmates will live to regret it. 

Basically, he’s best boy, and best brother, give him more love you guys, he deserves so much more.

Hey! Aspiring fanfic writer here; I was wondering if you could talk a bit about your writing/editing process and how long it all takes.

Welp, roughly the same extremely long amount of time it takes to actually answer an ask, tbh 🙃

So...I only know how my brain works, and I can only tell you what works for me might not work for you, and that's OK. I'm breaking into two separate bits, because I almost never do writing and editing at the same time.

And as far as a timeline, honestly it just depends. On life factors, what my hormones are doing at the time (jfc like the week before my period, I have zero creativity, motivation, or attention span), if I'm having trouble with a particular scene, if I'm getting consistent positive feedback (yes, I can totally admit that I write faster when I know a particular reviewer is following along with every update), etc.

WRITING:

First, you gotta just...be fixated, I guess. Particularly if it's an AU, I sit with it for a long time before I ever write a word. I go over scenes, think about how the world changes, what stays the same, what *has* to stay the same to keep the characters true to their canon personalities. I sit with the characters for a long time, too--not just the main characters, but the supporting cast, too. In order to predict someone's future, you have to know their past. Most of our present actions are actually reactions to past events, when you think about it. The better you know your version of the character, the easier every other aspect of writing will be. I don't know how it is for other people, but I don't ever "feel" like I'm writing. I feel like I'm "witnessing", and the characters are simply doing whatever they wish. (***this is gonna be a thing during the editing process, too, so hang on to that)

Then once I have a general idea, I choose a title. Generally, I do not even start a word document until I have a proper title to put on it. The title is part of the theme and aesthetic to me, and it grounds me in the overall arc.

Once that's done, it's time for outlining. I generally wait until I feel this weird almost tingling in my left arm (weirder still bc I'm right handed) and I'm practically vibrating with a need to WRITE THIS STORY NOW. Then I put on some Bear McCreary (honestly, any videogame soundtrack will do, as they are literally designed to help you maintain focus and keep pace) and fucking go to town. For me, it helps to do this with pen and paper, so that I can go back up and squiggle little notes in the margin, rearrange the order, etc, far faster than I could on a computer.

Important note: the outline is not the end-all be-all. Some things don't make it to the final print. Some minor storylines get tossed or characters simply...take a different path than I expect. I will continue re-writing and updating the outline as I go along. On average, I usually have 5-8 outlines per story, and they're often 3-10 pages long. I also have a posted outline, which is a log of all the scenes that did make it to the final product. 

Then, it's the actual writing, at long last. I have found that I write best at the start of my day, before the noise and static of daily life comes in. So I wake up around 5am and spend 90minutes writing before beginning my workday routine. I have the Word app on my phone and may continue adding bits in throughout the day at work, if I get a moment. However, after 5pm my brain is usually fried and no more creativity happens. On weekends, I try to have one morning where I "sleep in" til 6am, and then write until at least 10am, sometimes 2pm, if I can get away with it.

The hardest part still is knowing when to transition and when to skip to the next chapter/scene/whatever. This is like...zero percent helpful, but I liken it to Supreme Court Justice Potter Stewart's definition of pornography: "I know it when I see it." It may seem like a scene is circling, and sometimes it means you gotta leave the room a bit earlier bc the scene has already served its purpose. Other times, it means ya gotta stay with it a bit longer, because there's something the character is trying to say. Give them patience, and give yourself patience, too. Explore the scene and its dynamics. You won't know til you know and even then, sometimes you won't be entirely sure. That's ok, too. Part of the process. Remember editing will happen and you can decide then (hell, you can literally re-edit after it's been published, I've done that before too and added a note on the next chapter for any readers who might have read the first version 🤷🏻‍♀️ not ideal but still functional).

I do simple edits (spelling, grammar, etc) just about every morning as I reread what I wrote the day before, which is a refresher course for the day's writing session. But big "real" editing generally doesn't happen until right before posting.

Now, here's the ***issue from writing: sometimes, something just "doesn't work" in a scene. Again, you'll know it when you see it. The words a character is saying feels clunky. The pacing feels off. Something just...ain't right. More often than not, it means either I haven't truly sat with a character long enough to know their true motivations/backstory, or I am not giving characters the proper time/space/impediment to make the actions or say the things they're currently making/saying. I'm trying to force the flow, rather than letting it ebb and breathe when it needs to.

Absolute ProTip: You spent HOURS writing this scene. It's got some REALLY GOOD moments and lines in it. It doesn't work but you can't just delete it. It's your LIFE. I struggle with this A LOT, and I have found a solution: create a second "outtakes" document to cut and paste those scenes into. Sometimes I still keep moments or bits of dialog. Sometimes I later use bits in a later scene. Sometimes I never look at it again but I still feel secure in knowing that if I wanted to go back and use the original scene instead, I totally can. I don't think I've actually ever gone back to the original, tbh, but it reduced my anxiety about deleting the scene and starting over.

So back to the scene that doesn't work. I take it apart, figure out *at what exact point* it stops working, then work back up a few lines to see where the shift actually begins. More often than not, it's because I'm having characters express their feelings in ways they actually wouldn't. (people very very very rarely actually say what they're thinking/feeling, and you have to relay it in other ways). So I have to keep the internal monologue of what they're actually feeling/thinking, while figuring out how that actually translates via tone, body language, and what they do and don't say.

The "something ain't working stage" can take LITERAL WEEKS. I sometimes have to walk away for awhile, or tackle it only on days when I know I have hours upon hours to truly work on it. I keep circling back around, and eventually, the knot works itself out. Persistence, and insistence that "good enough" isn't actually good enough, are key. (this is why you have to fixated on the story you want to tell--because some days, it's going to take every ounce of that obsession to keep you going and keep you on the track of telling the story you wanted to tell, rather than settling or switching to an easier tack)

Sometimes, editing is a breeze. I don't change much, I may go a little more into the character's inner world here or there. Once you've been doing this for awhile, you'll just know when a story hits all its marks--and you'll also know when it's not, when it could be more or do more, and you can figure out how to get it there. There isn't a precise formula for it, it's more like cooking without an actual recipe to follow--a dash here, a bit there, you'll know it when you taste it.

And I'll leave you with this unsolicited bit: just write. Write often, write about everything, write what makes YOU passionate and happy, and absolutely write for yourself. Edit the fuck out of it, if you need to. Get a beta reader, if you need to. Get someone to just bounce ideas off, if you need to. And don't post it until you're truly ready and it's something you genuinely want to share. If someone gives constructive criticism, take in on the chin and move on (keep the notes, if you think they're valid, and toss em if you don't--you'll never be everyone's style of writer, so know that sometimes, people just won't be the target audience). Know that you'll grow and you'll learn and you'll find your own voice and like any skill, you'll develop a second nature about it--all those parts where I say "you'll know it when you see it" or "you'll feel it" absolutely come from spending a literal lifetime (28 years) writing stories, and thirteen years of writing fanfic in particular. It's ok if you don't see it or feel it right away. It takes practice. And you will have an audience at every skill level, no matter what (finding that audience? different story altogether...).

All totaled, this process can take anywhere from 3months to over a year. Stories are like children, I've found: they each develop at their own pace, and some may need more time and assistance than others. But they're still pretty wonderful. (except the bratty stories. they're the worst 🙄)

dark night fireworks- my first (published) mlqc fic <333 2nd person and entirely too pretentious (rumor has it even the author doesn’t really know what she was trying to convey except. n e u r o s c i e n c e and MEMORY is cool). slight spoilers for ch.16

watch the universe expand- a long, rambly attempt to explore lucien’s character and also evolutionary biology and evols told through excessive metaphor and bedtime stories. spoilers for lucien’s childhood and ch.13. im proud of this one ^^ though there is a lot of projection involved. also lucien is an enneagram five.

to dwell on- c: lucien and homes and him and mc being soft together that’s it <3 or in more coherent language some bittersweet fluff for lucien’s bday based on moments from his mini-house and his most recent bday karma + date. in hindsight i’ve realized i didn’t use his or MC’s name at all outside of dialogue LOL

king lear and other tragedies- a prompt for the librarian ask meme linked above! im p sure anon prompted me a month before i got around to actually writing an answer hndkslgj but. here we are. shakespeare and tragedies and parallels between characters and a lot of pretentious dialogue, meant to be an extension of/missing scene after lucien’s theater date. this only rly exists bc of a single line in the date mentioning the production being put on was king lear and i took that and ran for all it was worth

Gavin

just a summer thing- a short little scenario that manifested in my head one warm summer night when i should’ve been sleeping and my first foray into domestic!gavin territory <333 i’d say it’s probably one of my lightest fics, if not the lightest ahfksldg (also heavily inspired by the way @belovedstill writes gavin/mc pst basia’s fics are to die for)

under a golden sun- high school era gavin, MC and minor! originally intended for gavin’s bday except (1) i didn’t finish on time LOL and (2) the fic never mentions his bday oops. also in 2nd person though if you asked why i couldn’t tell you it just felt more right. ft. basketball and memories and a bit of bittersweet nostalgia. simultaneously has some of what i think is my weakest writing (in terms of pacing/consistent tone imo) and some of my favorite lines i’ve ever written for a gavin fic and i’ve come to appreciate it more over time bc of that c:

today, this is the whole universe (and that’s okay)- gavin, MC, and domestic, sleepy sundays. and a long ao3 title that’s it that’s the fic (narrator: and then, she never wrote anything purely fluffy ever again). heavily inspired by gavin’s sleepy morning asmr and that one clip of his cn voice actor playing/humming his theme (aka soft soft SOFTEST) also just. i said it already but all of my domestic!gavin is inspired by and exists thanks to the breathtaking writing of @belovedstill <333

in the wind- a semi(?)exploration of gavin’s wind but also just him loving mc bc that’s what he and his evol are all about. short and bittersweet <3 (if anyone’s keeping track i think this is where my writing starts to lean more on the uhhh descriptive side and becomes less dialogue-based? or i feel there’s a diff from this writing style compared to the earlier gavin fics (besides parts of under a golden sun) which is just interesting for me to think about but not relevant to the fic itself ahfklsdf) 

winter’s end- winter world!gavin and mc and a softer, more bittersweet reunion. m a j o r spoilers for ch.22 and what comes before. also gavin’s past. it hurt to write and apparently hurts to read b u t there’s a happy ending. i promise c:

Of Corgis and Christmas- a secret santa present for a victor stan that conjured some fluffy victor writing from my victor-less heart,,, a christmas miracle aND im lowkey proud of how it turned out but the highlights of the fic are Goldman and Cindy T-T they deserve more screentime and someday. i will write the subplot that got cut where Goldman sends Cindy embarrassing Victor stories to try to impress her and MC helps :>

I wanna start writing fanfics (mainly birdflash) and I need tips bc it's my first time?

Please run things through a basic grammar and spell checker

Use quotation marks to indicate speech

Paragraph breaks for lines of dialogue, changes in time/place, or switching topics; nobody wants to read a single giant text block

Don’t put author’s notes in the middle, it distracts from the story

Avoid text speak unless the characters are actually texting

If possible, get someone to beta-read for feedback (I’m always happy to if you can’t find anyone else, just DM me)

Put effort into your summary. Don’t say “the summary sucks but the story is better” or “no summary because spoilers”. Your summary is how you hook people, so if readers see you’re not confident in a synopsis or you refuse to tell them what they need to know off the bat, they’re less likely to continue reading

Steer clear of slurs if you don’t know how to properly write them or if your characters aren’t in a position to say it. Fictional ones like “mudblood” don’t count

Similar thing for cussing. Use cuss words only if a) it adds value to the moment or b) if the character is a known potty mouth. Otherwise those words lose the intense effect that they’re supposed to have

Give proper ratings. Don’t rate your fanfic “general audience” if there’s graphic violence or sex or whatever. When in doubt, get a second opinion. Again, I’m open for that too

Please don’t write the entirety of a song’s lyrics in a songfic. Just the important parts will do

If you’re using foreign words, italicize them and leave definitions in the notes below. Translating them as you go seems like a good idea but breaks up the flow of the story

If you don’t know what kissing/sex/etc. is like, look it up or ask somebody (fine, I’ll open my DMs to this one too)

Thesauruses keep things from sounding too repetitive, but it’s still better just to naturally expand your vocabulary

If there’s something non-traditional about the formatting (e.g. thoughts being in italics), indicate that either in the author’s notes or at the beginning before the story starts

If you’re collabing with someone, communication and consent are key

Tag content warnings properly

Find the platform(s) that are right for you and consistently build there—Tumblr, FF.net, LiveJournal, Ao3, Wattpad, whatever

Just based on my experience if you don’t know where to post: 

Wattpad tends to be better for OC or self-insert fanfics. Most writers are beginner-level and the fandoms tend to be really broad, like DC or Harry Potter

Fanfiction.net is…a little dicey. I know they’ve had issues in the past with censorship and stuff. Writing level ranges very greatly and it’s kind of hard to make yourself seen among so many users. They have more fandoms than Wattpad and they’ve also got a basic filtering system in place

LiveJournal is kinda old from my knowledge and I’m not even sure if people actually use it anymore. I know I haven’t ‘cause I’m part of a younger cohort, but hey, I might be wrong and it might be the perfect place for you

Tumblr is better for one-shots or fanfics with accompanying art or music from my experience. There’s a limit of thirty tags per post so you can cover your bases, but probably won’t be able to do specific ones. It’s relatively easy to get seen on Tumblr because their algorithm favors more recent posts in a weird way that I haven’t totally figured out. I’d say the average fanfic writing level in intermediate, but fair warning for gatekeepers, doxxers, etc. But that’s still unlikely unless you post something actually problematic

I think fandom Wiki or something allows people to write fanfics but I’m not sure

Goodreads is largely for published original works or classic stuff like the Iliad so…fanfics won’t fare so well there

Just avoid Reddit and 4chan for your own sake

Ao3 has writers of all levels too, but leans more towards the intermediate to proficient end. There are a lot of fandoms big and small and though there’s some OC/reader-insert content, the vast majority of works stick to canon characters. The tags get as specific as you like and filtering system is great, with places available in nearly every language you write in. There’s a wait period if you want to sign up and it’s also pretty uncensored

And remember: your first work isn’t gonna be too good and that’s okay. Practice makes perfect, and even the best of us always have room to grow!
