"Good luck, Harry," he murmured. He turned on his heel and with a swish of his cloak, he was gone.
A breeze ruffled the neat hedges of Privet Drive, which lay silent and tidy under the inky sky, the very last place you would expect astonishing things to happen. Harry Potter rolled over inside his blankets without waking up. One small hand closed on the letter beside him and he slept on, not knowing he was special, not knowing he was famous, not knowing he would be woken in a few hours time by Mrs.Dursley's scream as she opened the front door to put out the milk bottles, nor that he would spend the next few weeks being prodded and pinched by his cousin Dudley......He couldn't know that at this very moment, people meeting in secret all over the country were holding up their glasses and saying in husband voices: "To Harry Potter---the boy who lived!"

[Baldur's Gate 3, Rolan, Act 3 Spoilers]
I really love thinking about how objectively protective all the BG3 companions (+Tav ofc) would be of Rolan after hearing what Lorroakan's been subjecting him to at Sorcererous Sundries since he started his apprenticeship. (Assuming you're playing to keep the tieflings safe and happy)
Hearing and eventually witnessing a person (or friend), even as prickly as Rolan's been, experience daily abuse by a "teacher" who waives power and authority over him-- I don't see those signs and indications sitting well with literally any of the companions whatsoever.
Just catch my entire camp squaring up behind Rolan with Lorroakan in his tower to beat the shit out of him. And I'll revive him and do it again right after.
Love Rolan and Lia and Cal.
Just such satisfying character development and totally worth the long game.

Villain: Tirivanis, the Duke of Wounds
The first rule of dealing in blood is to never dip into your own supply
One must admit that there is power in blood, mortals bleed so easy yet a few drops can mean the difference between life and death. Blood is what ties us to are closest kin, and agreements signed in blood are thought to be the most binding. Is it any wonder then that someone would look upon this power and not seek to claim it for their own?
Enter Tirivanis, an enterprising devil who sought to unlock all the multiverse’s sanguine secrets, mastering not only the binding blood contracts of his infernal kind but more esoteric sources of magic: the contagious curse of vampirism, pagan battle and fertility rites, sorcererous inheritance and destined dynasties. Over time the Duke became so skilled at Interweaving these disciplines that he could freely mingle his power with that of his follower’s bloodlines, creating a living reservoir of arcana that he could tap into at will without the need to tempt mortals individually. This made him a true power in the courts of hell, atleast until he was summoned to the material plane in order to lord over some of his underlings and ended up getting into a fight with a meddling seraph resulting in being entombed beneath the earth for a few centuries.
Imprisonment was not good for the duke, trapped as he was and unable to maintain the bonds of magic that sustained him and all the contracts he had struck began to slip into default, bleeding him of more and more of his power. This imbalance that was only corrected after a nightmarish battle above his resting place soaked the earth with enough blood and sorrow that he was able to wrest himself free at which point he emerged as a changed and harrowed thing, desperate to undo all that he once made.
Though Tirivanis can play at being the suave and calculating devil he once was, the moment he gets a whiff of blood touched by his old power he goes after it like a shark, ripping his victims apart, wringing their flesh of blood, even licking it off the ground where it was splattered, made feral with the ecstasy of being made whole bit by bit. When his frenzy passes and his mind returns, he rises again, having traded yet more dignity for yet another scrap of his old power. He begins the hunt again, using what magic he can muster to seek his next victim.
Hooks:
Its a classic story: the party is set on the trail of a curse-slinging warlock hellbent on acquiring blasphemous powers and willing to perform any dark ritual to achieve it, only to fight their way through the villain's dungeon lair to find their quarry in pieces all across the ritual chamber. In the centre of this gorily decorated chamber they find a once-regal devil trapped in a ruinic circle panting after the out of reach warlock giblits like a starving dog. Having caught Tirivanis in a compromising position, the party might be able to haggle for some infernal boon, provided they don’t mind using entrails as bargaining chips.
Having proven themselves erstwhile heroes, the party receives an invitation to a country estate to hear a potential request for employment. A day or so carriage ride from the town, they find their hosts “out” at the moment, but are invited to wander the beautifully kept grounds and be waited upon by the friendly ( if a little anemic ) serving staff. That night, the party is woken from their beds and invited to meet with their perspective employers, who turn out to be a family of vampires. Carefully controlling both their appetites and number, the vampires have managed to not invite outside attention, atleast until one of their number was attacked kidnapped. Do the party accept their blood money, or risk angering a very old and well connected family on principle alone?
The hottest new trend on the arcane black market? Rune inscribed leaches that’ve begun appearing in the realm’s swamps, which suffuse the caster’s body with magical stimulants while taking just a little blood in return. Tirivanis created these loathsome symbiotes to detect for those who share a tie to any of the magical bloodlines he crated. When one of the little critters gets a taste, Tirivanis is there in a matter of days, though the dealers have been covering up the deaths of tieflings and other users in order to move more product.

So after Lorroakan I had a glitch at Sorcererous Sundries? Or was I supposed to check out Gale and Astarion's books before that? Cause after defeating Lorroakan there was a group of Flaming Fists standing guard the entrance to the Forbidden Area. So I tried distracting these fists, but there's just more inside. i absolutely just went on experimenting how to get passed them without going aggro on me (this is how I end up playing for hours).
After finishing up other quests, I came back and ended up just killing the fists outside the door with smokepowder barrels and explosives (while hidden) and just run back to camp. The fists inside was more challenging to kill, so I decided to just take Gale and Astarion while invisible. And Gale pulls this sht on me 😂😂 I never even tried speaking to him with Astarion

Psionics book propaganda, but hear me out...
The Psionics book has sort of just been shoved out there. I haven't talked about it enough. I've been really busy and exicted about a lot going on, the Grimdark & Dangerous being the primary distraction.
But I want to talk about some of the psionic features you can find in Psionics: Spellcasting & Specialties with a little more detail.
The thing I wanted to focus on most with psionic spellcasting was this idea that a person with psionic abilities would cast spells differently. Yeah, it's more or less a different route to the same destination, but that route should have something special, even if it's just good scenery. Which is why the psionic disciplines are there (though it is worth noting that the spellcasting feature for psionic spellcasting does work a little different and makes things a little more balanced for the various classes).
The disciplines narrow down on what a character's psionic abilities are; are they based on intelligence and what they know and learn, are they based on wisdom and what they understand about the world, or are they based on their charisma and their personal beliefs and self understanding. Because psionics allow you to make any class cast with any of your three mental abilities (you could have a charisma wizard, for example), it feels right to pay it off in case you lose some functionality from standard class features that might depend on a different ability than your new spellcasting one. So these disciplines generally expand the number of spells you have access to based on other unique traits your character has (languages known, skills they are proficient with, etc.) or make you a slightly more durable spellcaster when you have to invest in riskier spells.
I'm not going to write a feature that just hands a character a bunch of power at level 1 though, so it should be worth noting that psionic spellcasting has prerequisites: base 15 in the ability score you tie your psionic powers to, and your GM can increase that if you build with standard array or have power gamers in the group. But you can still get more than one psionic discipline, it just gets harder to get a second after you get a first and much harder to get the third when you have a second.
It's very fun. A little complicated, I will admit, but it is something I really want to play myself when my next home game campaign starts up.
As for the subclasses, I want to talk about my two favorites. Barbarian Path of the Psyker and Reincarnated Sorcerer. Spoilers below for details (trust me you want to keep reading).
The first is pretty easy to sum up. Psyker barbarians are similar to Warhammer Orks. They have an uncontrollable psionic talent that functions mostly in their powerful beliefs. If the barbarian believes hard enough, their psionic powers bridge the gap to their success. This means that if they think shouting extra loud when they hit someone deals more damage, they deal more damage. If they think that fancy armor makes them even harder to hit (even if it's just hide armor with extra feathers) that armor becomes more powerful. But they can also lose faith in their beliefs if they are proven wrong. Just like powerful belief can empower them, doubt can weaken them (though I wrote this more as an optional rule). But the really fun thing about this subclass is that it lets barbarians add some nuance to their rage; they can make their rage a senseless rage, a focused rage, or a determined rage. These different kinds of rage can empower different defensive capabilities and even inspire confidence in their allies. These barbarians also gain a powerful psychic roar that gets stronger when it has more minds to echo through (it can be a lot, max potential damage of… 36d8, I think) and can be incredibly debilitating against large groups of spellcasters.
Second is the reincarnated sorcerer. It's kind of what it sounds like at first but there's some nuance here. The origin of your sorcererous power is that you are the reincarnation of another powerful spellcaster (or really anyone and it has granted you spellcasting abilities and a psionic talent), but because it is power that comes from you and that you understand innately you are a different sort of spellcaster than you were in your past life. If you want to play an Avatar: The Last Airbender sort of avatar character, this class is your new best friend. You can set up some custom reincarnated spells based on what sort of spellcaster you are the reincarnation of, you can gain extra benefits for certain skills, call upon an artifact from your past life, and summon a specter of your old self (very much like Aang conjuring avatar Roku, I did not realize how avatar this subclass was until just now as I'm writing this out). And in this class, along with the other features that grant unique summons in this book, I wanted to drive home that your summoned allies aren't just you in a different form—these summons can act on their own and even defy your wishes if they have good reason (though this is more for flavor and not exactly mechanical). So, if the conjured version of your past life doesn't approve of what you've become, they might take it upon themselves to correct your path in life. (I enjoy Critical Role a great deal and I think this would be a very fun subclass if you wanted to play the reincarnation of someone like Delilah Briarwood or another powerful and now deceased NPC). And, hell, you don't even have to limit your past life to a humanoid—go full isekai, be the humanoid reincarnation of a dragon or celestial or archfey. There's a lot of fun things you can do with this subclass.
I hope I've piqued your interest in this book.

I would love to know more about your Nutcracker and whether you'd introduce things from the book or ballet into a DisneyVerse version
Thanks for your patience anon! Ok, here’s the ideas I have, used some of the look of the live movie cuz I did like the designs for some of it but will be a completely different story, based somewhat on an old story concept I put together with my friend @im-fairly-whitty a few years ago.
Tumblr media
I see it as starting out like your basic Nutcracker ballet story, it’s Christmas, Clara gets a nutcracker from her godfather Drosselmeyer, during the night the mice come in and the nutcracker comes to life to fight them. Mouse King doesn’t die though he gets away and Nutcracker is still a nutcracker and Clara goes with him to the magical candy land of Cockaigne, where there are peppermint trees and lemonade springs and gingerbread houses, usually sans witches. (Basically Barbie Nutcracker Movie set up a bit, but Clara goes as she wants to have an adventure/doesn’t feel appreciated at home, she’s running away.)
They travel thru the war torn candy land and meet the Sugarplum Fairy, the leader of the ‘human/human adjacent army against the—for lack of a better word— vermin army that has been besieging them. The army is made of mice and bugs and other unwanted creatures that over hundreds of years have eaten the magical food that makes up the land and gained sentience and anthropomorphic traits which brought them into conflict with the humans. They are looking for the Krakatuk Crown, a powerful object that could tip the scales of the war. The Sugarplum Fairy takes them to the ruler of Cockaigne, Princess Pirlipat, who says she is the Nutcracker’s fiancé and who wears a mask at all times, the result of a curse placed on her by the Mouse King’s predecessor. She sends them on a quest to find the crown and save the land. Clara and Nutcracker have to find it as the main quest, and along the way we would learn about the Nutcracker and Mouse King’s backstory:
Years ago the Princess Pirlipat was cursed by the Mouse Queen, in revenge for Pirlipat’s parents having caused the death of the Mouse Queen’s seven sons in the war. Pirlipat is cursed into a hideous form that she can only be released by if someone with a true hero’s heart manages to defeat the sorcererous Mouse Queen and places the Queen’s crown of her head. (The crown could be carved from a magical Krakatuk nut to reference the og story and it’s where the queen gets her magic from). The court magician, Herr Drosselmeyer, believes his nephew Andre could be the destined hero and brings him from Our World to Cockaigne.
Andre, who also wanted to escape his old life where he didn’t feel understood and be a hero, undertakes the task of attempting to gain the crown by infiltrating the vermin army, during time he makes friends with the Queen’s one remaining son, Alexander, and comes to see that the vermin army are actually just as ‘human’ as people are and haven’t been treated right. He feels conflicted about his quest, but still determines to steal the crown and be a hero, and maybe once he’s proved himself and married the princess he could start peace talks?
—But of course it all goes horribly wrong. The Mouse Queen ends up being killed, Pirlipat’s curse isnt lifted lifted due to Andre’s not having a true hero’s heart (valuing fame over decency) .The furious Pirlipat tells him she has no use for him now he’s failed, and she will take the crown and use it to destroy all the sentient vermin once and for all.
And Alexander, now king and literally haunted by his dead family’s ghosts (I wanted so bad to have 7 headed Mouse King but I don’t think it could viably by animated so vengeance driven ghost brothers driving him mad it is) swears vengeance on Andre, who in shame runs away, hiding the crown so it can’t be used for any more curses, using it only once to banish the memory of its location and the shameful events from his mind, turning him into a toy, something tossed about by someone else’s will, stagnant, stuck in his shame and guilt. He’s eventually found by his uncle Drosselmeyer in his exile andwhisked away from Cockaigne by his uncle to try and find a new hero to break his self imposed curse, which Drosselmeyer believed he had found in Clara, not because she was inherently destined, but because she had the heart to learn what needed to be learned to find the truth and grow as a person, and help Andre realize he could grow and make things right as well.
Tumblr media
So basically the pair have to grow and realize a true hero means being compassionate and trying to understand those different from you, and doing what’s best for all, not just what will get you fame and glory, rediscover the truth of the Nutcracker’s memories and stop Pirlipat’s genocidal plans and save Alexander from his growing madness (the ghosts are very set on wiping out all the humans as well) and bring true peace to all the people of Cockaigne.
(And Mother Ginger is a good jolly kind person who runs an orphanage for war orphans, and I guess she can have an eyepatch still but yeah she’s like, a symbol of finding hope in hard times and the Sugarplum Fairy isn’t bad either, she’s a victim of Pirlipat’s propaganda and once she realizes that she stops the big attack their gonna do and helps Andre and Clara stop the mad princess and she and her cavalier are a kick-butt power couple who are ridiculously romantic for eachother…anyway rant over xD )

It bugs me so much that Raven's -- from the Teen Titans -- first name is not Raven. It's Rachel. Like she's this badass demonic sorcererous, daughter of the King Of Hell -- right, it's been a while not gonna lie -- and her name is Rachel. Like the most boring fucking white girl name ever and Raven is just such a better name. It could have been her name and her hero name.
Like Madonna or Cher or something.
But instead her name is Rachel.
