Each year, as the snows deepened and the rivers crusted with ice, the folk of the North made their long trek southward to Winterfell. They came not with pleas, but with purpose—knowing well the ancient accord: food, warmth, and shelter would be theirs, as it always was, in return for service rendered. The men lent their backs to timber and stone, hauling logs through the snow-choked gatehouses, repairing broken ramparts and wind-scoured walls. The women, robed in wool and adorned with pins of weirwood and bone, set about the sacred task of weaving—tapestries of thread and blood-memory, passed down mother to daughter, each stitch a vow to the old gods.

These were not idle works. The North remembered. The North prepared.

Lord Cregan Stark had ridden out weeks prior, vanishing into the frostbitten wilds with spear and hound in pursuit of meat and pelt for the Yuletide stores. When he returned, the sun was dim behind a veil of cloud, and the courtyard had stirred to life with the bustle of preparation. Children ran underfoot, snow-soaked and shrieking in mirth, while men shouted over the groaning of carts and the creak of swollen wood. The banners of House Stark snapped in the wind.

Even his children—the young wolves—tumbled over one another in the drifted yard, boys and girls alike roughhousing with all the vigour of their house. Yet Cregan, smiling though he was, noted the absence of one. A pair of violet-and-grey eyes, like twilight before a storm, were missing from the frolic.

It was then the cry rang out.

Shrill. Drenched in terror.

The courtyard stilled as if gripped by a sudden frost. All turned to see a child—small, pale, her breath steaming in frantic bursts—fleeing from the mouth of the crypts. Her sobs tore through the air like a knife through linen, and the thumping of her boots across the packed snow echoed louder than it ought. She threw herself at Cregan’s leg, clutching him with the desperation of one drowning. The stench of earth—dank and old—clung to her like smoke.

He knelt, boots crunching, and took her cheeks in his gloved hands. Her skin was ice-cold. The eyes that met his own were those he had sought: mismatched, wide with panic. Serana.

“Hush now, little one. What frightens you so?” he asked, gentling his voice though his heart had begun to thunder.

“B-bad man… in the tunnels,” she whimpered. “Papa—bad! Bad bad bad!” Her trembling finger pointed to the gaping maw of the crypts, flanked by two stone direwolves whose eyes seemed darker than usual.

Cregan followed her gesture. The shadows beyond the threshold did not stir, and yet… the longer he gazed, the more his unease grew. The air seemed stiller there. He had known the crypts all his life—knew their winding halls, their old kings laid in silence beneath heavy stone. A place of reverence, never dread. But now, his flesh prickled.

He lifted Serana into his arms. She clung tightly, her small fingers twisted in his cloak. His shoulders ached from the long ride, but the weight of his daughter was familiar and grounding. He stroked her hair with a steady hand.

“You are safe, little wolf,” he murmured. “There is no man down there, only bones and memory. The mind plays tricks in the dark.”

But before they crossed the threshold of the keep, she shrieked again—this time louder.

“Big!” she cried. “White, big, scary! He looked at me, Papa! In the deep! He had eyes like—like snow!”

He halted.

Her breath hitched as she continued to weep, but her words had already planted their seed. Cregan turned his gaze once more to the crypt entrance. The wind had shifted. It whispered now.

He said nothing further. But he did not sleep that night, even with his wife’s warm presence at his side. His flesh was warm, but his mind remained cold.

“of course not,” he smiles, subtly pushing his notes to the side to make room for your own. you ignore l’s glance as you pull out one of your textbooks and its corresponding notebook.

silence falls over the task force headquarters once again aside from the occasional noise of a mouse clicking or your pencil scraping against the page.

light occasionally glances down at your work, silently double checking your answers. he waits for you to finish answering the hardest questions before he shifts slightly closer to you. he moves now using his left hand to continue researching the yotsuba group. you smile softly when he reaches over, subtly resting his hand beside yours. you silently reach over to take his hand into yours, intertwining your fingers together before you turn your attention back to your notes.

you pretend not to hear matsuda’s cheering or light’s father scolding him in favour of absentmindedly rubbing small shapes against light’s skin.

light softly smiles to himself as he quietly enters your shared bedroom before closing the door behind himself. your body lays sprawled out on the bed - one of your arms haphazardly thrown across one of his pillows, keeping it closely pressed against your bare chest. 

a small sliver of moonlight just barely illuminates the room as light tugs his own shirt off. he tosses his clothes into a laundry basket hidden away in your closet. he slips into an old pair of your sweatpants before carefully slipping underneath the covers to lay beside you. 

you stir awake at the feeling, lifting your head up just enough to squint at him in the darkness. “light?” you whisper. 

“go back to sleep, y/n,” he murmurs. you shuffle even closer to him, tangling your legs together underneath the blankets. your arm lays draped over his side as you lean in to nuzzle yourself against his body. he stifles a chuckle, pulling you even closer. goosebumps raise along your waist when his hand ghosts against your skin. he leans down to press a kiss against your forehead. “i love you,” you whisper. 

“i love you too,” light murmurs.

you stifle a small yawn as you tiredly walk back to the makeshift workstation you had set up at one of the free tables in the middle of the task force headquarters. the fluorescent lights beam down on you from above as you walk through the sea of empty desks until you find your computer. 

set delicately in the corner away from your computer is a small bouquet of flowers and a fresh cup of coffee with a small note taped to the mug. you smile softly at the sight as you approach, setting your bag down on the ground before you sit down in the chair. you push your computer aside, reaching over to grab the still-warm cup and opening the note.

“i don’t understand why this is necessary,” l says, reaching out to eat another chocolate-covered strawberry. the chain of their handcuffs clink as light reaches over to grab a frying pan to continue making breakfast. “you’re not even going to eat the food.”

“it’s for y/n,” light says. his attention remains focused on the stove despite the complaints of the man chained to him. “he has a few classes this morning so i’m making his lunch.”

l remains silent, instead choosing to observe light. he occasionally tugs them around the grand kitchen as he expertly moves to cook your favourite meal. the chain drags against the marble countertops with each movement, though their complaints are left unsaid.

the handcuffs clink once again as light leans over the counter, quickly writing a love note on a piece of scrap paper. “i still don’t understand,” l comments.

light simply shrugs as he slips the note and container of food into your lunchbox before returning it to your backpack. l watches over his shoulder as he sets the bag down beside the couch. “i do it because i love him.”

“y/n?” light calls as he enters your shared bedroom. you flinch slightly at the sudden noise, finally pulling your attention away from your unfinished notes to look back at him. he furrows his eyebrows slightly when he steps closer, noticing your puffy eyes as he walks over to sit beside you. “is everything okay?”

“i’m fine,” you mumble, turning to look back down at your notes. “just… a little stressed.”

“you know you can tell me anything,” light frowns slightly as he reaches over to carefully grab your hand. “what’s wrong?”

you let out a small sigh as he begins to rub miscellaneous shapes against your hand. “i’m exhausted.” your voice shakes as each word leaves your mouth. “i have so much work - it all feels neverending. i don’t know what to do.”

“y/n,” light whispers. he reaches over to cup your face in his hands. “you’re incredibly smart, and handsome, and kind,” he brushes away a stray tear as it rolls down your cheek. “you don’t have to go through this alone. i’m here for you. i love you. let me take care of you.”

you nod, leaning further into light’s touch. “thank you.”

So this has been on my mind back during 183, and with this chapter I think I can talk about it adding to Kiga operating the structures thoughts.

Assuming the girl who told Death to go out and crush ants is the same bully from the start it kinda adds to the thought of the school's violence towards Asa forming the basis of her start as an anti-villain heroine in the story.

The way the bullying was what kicks off Yuko's vigilantism in her transformation into a devil mimicking AsaYoru's revival and cathartic victory after being killed by the class prez over the teacher's predatory intentions towards her.

The alienation Asa feels with her peers the opening for which class prez and teacher exploited.

And we can kind of see this sharing of retaliation between AsaYoru and Yuko in the hallways of the school, when Yoru makes weapons out of the students' belongings, the tools they use for school, the stationery aimed at Yuko as the villain to be defeated only for Yuko to redirect them into killing the bullies, the "real bad guys".

Even the way Yuko and Yoru purpose the school ITSELF as a weapon with Yoru stealing the floorboards, setting traps to turn the school into a battlefield, Yuko smashing the bully against the wall, flinging the student hunters out the window.

Asa caught between the fire that ignites class prez and Yuko in their transformation over her. The class prez kills her for romance and Yuko kills for her for justice as she's made to take on the role of love interest and hero through fire of her own, her "selfishness" through who she wishes to save.

That Kiga makes her entrance in this moment offering to save Yuko for Asa if that's what she wants despite the harm Yuko has done and continued to cause. Because she chose to let Yuko live, to do right by her heart like when she saved the cat.

That Justice, Fire was said to be in the school contracting students to grant their wishes and ideals under Kiga.

The class prez's contract as the inciting incident while Yuko's contract inspires Asa's motivation going forward in how she wants to live, the founding of a saviour born from injustice.

The shared parallel with Denji's protagonism and assigned heroism from his injustice. Their escape from death to begin their story.

And Death appears in this same school that kicked off the start of p2 to argue that this is suffering and therefore pitiful, but she isn't welcomed here even if she has what she believes to be only the best intentions for everyone.

She can't take out the trash because she's too important for that simply because "anyone can do it" she's Death! Not a face in the crowd Kiga plays as.

Also taking the trash to the incinerator carrying hints to Denji's revival from the dumpster given purpose through his dreams and desires, what makes his heart beat and revs his engine as it burns him all the same.

It almost seems like a mockery of Death with the task being menial, a reduction of what she represents when death merely acts in a position of service to the entertainment of the narrative which Kiga takes over.

daily, success threshold met at 183 days: journal, meditate, log my little habits and other countables, work out, drink 100 ounces of water, experience art, do some kind of mobility work even just a little bit of moving my butt on the foam roller, digital tidying of any kind, floss, write or work on a piece of writing even if it's not ready for writing (ykwim), no Scrolling before 10 p.m. (Intentional Posting such as this doesn't count) room re-set (a habit i had in 2023 decided i didn't need in 2024 and hugely missed once i had buried myself in a horrible pile i did not feel capable of tackling for like three months); 10k steps average for the year by 11:59 p.m. on december 31st

weekly: 5 Life Tasks Of Some Kind; try out weekly self-planning sessions although this is not a resolution because well what if i don't like it!

yearly: read 50 books; work about a thousand hours although this is not so much a "goal" as the result of me looking at my time tracking app and seeing if i can use this data to organize my life in a way that makes me feel less stressed about what is essentially my part-time job so i'm not gonna sweat the difference too much in either direction; i'm not gonna put my income goal on the internet but i do have one.

unquantified intentions: eat more vegetables/get to a place by the end of the year where i don't feel the need to resolve this again; be better about apartment tidiness maintenance tasks (an ounce of prevention...); be a more considerate and more proactive texter; keep working on showing up even when it's a little bit scary; i know i have writing as a daily goal but i'm also gonna say that an intention is to get to the end of the year feeling like i have a sense of how writing fits into my life as a regular practice instead of my historical feast or famine approach (which, to be clear, i don't think i'm ever going to be a nice normal Write Exactly 90 Minutes A Day gal.... so mostly i'm talking about avoiding the famines); keep jukeboxing; keep listening to new (generally and also to me) music; get back into/better at tarot

vibe: one other thing that came up when i was reflecting on 2024 was how much fucking time and mental energy i poured into being Totally Insane about how repulsive i am in many dimensions... this is not anything remotely new but i'm deciding now that i am over it and thus determining by executive decision that actually i am a hot fun genius and everybody awesome wants to be my friend.

Brazil’s Lula Made Progress on Deforestation, but “Agribusiness Is Winning”

“Members of the agrarian caucus vote together…This gives them immense leverage.”

When Brazilian president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva took office in January 2023, he inherited environmental protection agencies in shambles and deforestation at a 15-year high. His predecessor, Jair Bolsonaro, had dismantled regulations and gutted institutions tasked with enforcing environmental laws. Lula set out to reverse these policies and to put Brazil on a path to end deforestation by 2030. 

Environmental protection agencies have been allowed to resume their work. Between January and November of 2023, the government issued 40 percent more infractions against illegal deforestation in the Amazon when compared to the same period in 2022, when Bolsonaro was still in office. Lula’s government has confiscated and destroyed heavy equipment used by illegal loggers and miners, and placed embargoes on production on illegally cleared land. Lula also reestablished the Amazon Fund, an international pool of money used to support conservation efforts in the rainforest. Just this week, at the G20 Summit, outgoing US President Joe Biden pledged $50 million to the fund.  

Indeed, almost two years into Lula’s administration, the upward trend in deforestation has been reversed. In 2023, deforestation rates fell by 62 percent in the Amazon and 12 percent in Brazil overall (though deforestation in the Cerrado, Brazil’s tropical savannas, increased). So far in 2024, deforestation in the Amazon has fallen by another 32 percent. 

Throughout this year, Brazilians also bore witness to the effects of climate change in a new way. In May, unprecedented floods in the south of the country impacted over 2 million people, displacing hundreds of thousands and leaving at least 183 dead. Other regions are now into their second year of extreme drought, which led to yet another intense wildfire season. In September, São Paulo and Brasília were shrouded in smoke coming from fires in the Amazon and the Cerrado.  

And yet, despite the government’s actions, environmental protections and Indigenous rights are still under threat. Lula is governing alongside the most pro-agribusiness congress in Brazilian history, which renders his ability to protect Brazil’s forests and Indigenous peoples in the long term severely constrained. 

“I do believe that the Lula administration really cares about climate change,” said Belen Fernandez Milmanda, Assistant Professor of Political Science and International Studies at Trinity College and author of Agrarian Elites and Democracy in Latin America. “But on the other side, part of their governing coalition is also the agribusiness, and so far I feel like the agribusiness is winning.”

An FBI spokesperson confirmed to PEOPLE that a task force has been established to investigate ongoing vandalism of Tesla cars and showrooms

Multiple “incendiary” devices were found at the northwest Austin Tesla showroom on Monday, March 24, CNBC, KXAN and FOX 7 report.

Austin Police Department (APD) responded to a call around 8:04 a.m. local time about suspicious devices at the Tesla showroom off N. Highway 183 in Austin. The APD bomb squad was called out to investigate.

Upon arrival, authorities determined the devices “to be incendiary” and were taken by police without incident.

A spokesperson for the FBI said in a statement to PEOPLE: “Director [Kash] Patel has been unequivocally clear: The FBI will be relentless in its mission to protect the American people. Acts of violence, vandalism, and domestic terrorism — like the recent Tesla attacks — will be pursued with the full force of the law.”

The FBI spokesperson confirmed that a task force has been established to investigate ongoing vandalism of Tesla cars and showrooms.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) also reported to the scene. A representative for ATF confirmed to PEOPLE that the agency “is supporting the FBI, who is the lead agency for this ongoing investigation.”

A spokesperson for the FBI confirmed to KXAN in a statement that it was investigating this incident and other recently reported incidents across the country.

“The FBI is working with our law enforcement partners to investigate a number of recent incidents in which Tesla charging stations and dealerships were damaged,” the FBI said, per KXAN. “Incidents have occurred in several states and the FBI is coordinating with federal, state, and local law enforcement partners to gather information.” 

“We would like to remind members of the public that if they observe anything suspicious or have information about potential threats to report it to local law enforcement immediately, call their local FBI field office, or contact our tipline at 1-800-call-FBI,” the statement read. 

The FBI also recommended that the public read the Friday, March 21, PSA, asking others to “exercise vigilance and to look out for suspicious activity in areas occupied by Tesla dealerships or Tesla-related entities.”

The request follows the criticisms and protests the company has faced since CEO Elon Musk joined as a senior advisor in President Donald Trump’s administration.

Monday's incident came amid the Justice Department’s investigation into several recent incidents of vandalism targeting Tesla showrooms and cars across the nation, per The New York Times. The investigation began on Friday, March 21. 

Trump, 78, said in a Friday Truth Social post that people found guilty of attacking Tesla properties could serve their sentences in prisons in El Salvador.

Days before, on Tuesday, March 18, Attorney General Pam Bondi issued a statement: “The swarm of violent attacks on Tesla property is nothing short of domestic terrorism,” per The New York Times.

Representatives for the Austin Police Department, the FBI and Tesla did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for more information on Monday.

Ralph Dibny is a powered superhero from DC Comics first introduced in 1960. Ralph gains his ability to stretch his body to comic proportions as a result of his chronic ingestion of what is basically an essential oil. Ralph's hero work is largely based out of Opal City (which is kind of a stand-in for Baltimore, MD). Ralph is best known for his membership with the Justice League of America, Justice League Europe, and the Croatoans. Ralph is a devoted husband to his wife Sue, has his own exhibit at the Flash Museum, and is one of, if not the best detective in detective comics!
