The passing of a titan. His voice is one that's synonymous with kaiju dubs for me, and he was essential in making Hong Kong the place where so many of them were recorded. Rest in peace.

After some awkward moments of silence, he blurts out that it’s Spoiler. Since she is the only one from the main active team that isn’t his kid and this way he avoids picking a favorite.

(I like to think that) Lex Luthor gets clowned on by literally everyone, and Bruce is the absolute worst.

Like he'll attend an event and a literal millisecond later, Bruce will roll up and steal all the attention. And when they're inside, him or one of his crazy "children" will "accidentally" spill very red wine all over his expensive ass suit.

And what can Lex even do?

Last time he retaliated and mildly shoved Bruce, the man very dramatically flung himself across the room and fell straight into a table. He hadn't even gotten hurt- not a single bruise or cut- but that drama queen didn't appear in public for an entire month after the incident. The backlash Lex had gotten was so not worth it.

And it doesn't stop there. His kids join in on the "fun" and bully him too.

Tim permanently bans him from all the platforms owned by Wayne enterprisese, which is like borderline illegal, so Lex sues and somehow always loses.

Jason Duke and Steph team up and make it a game to throw things on his head without him realising. And when Luthor catches one of them, he can't even shout at them or whatnot cause hes actually scared shitless. Jason, the absolute tank of a man, just grins at him while placing his hands on the very noticeable gun at his hip. Duke and Steph stand on either side of him, gripping literal knives in their hands.

Damian just outright walks up to him and begins insulting him in a couple of different languages. He always gives Lex a final disgusted look before turning and walking off.

Dick might seem the sweetest, approaching him while smiling in that nice way of his. He's the worst, though, cause he always makes sure to bring a few reporters with him before he innocently starts outing Lex's latest evil scheme in front of the audience. He makes sure to bring solid evidence of the nefarious plans, but right at the end, he goes, "idk I could be wrong," before shrugging and walling off.

Cassandra doesn't do much, but she's definitely the scariest. Whenever Lex has had enough and is about to call a hit on Bruce, she appears out of nowhere, stares straight at him, and just shakes her head while saying, "No. Regret"

Basically, Lex Luthor, public enemy #1, gets (justifiably) bullied by the entirety of the human population (honestly, only the Waynes).

Mondo will release The Silence of the Lambs 24x36 screen prints by Nate Sweitzer tomorrow, January 18, at 1pm EST. Expected to ship in April, it's limited to 185 and costs $80.

Kaiju Week in Review (February 5-11, 2023)

Ted Thomas, the father of English dubbing in Hong Kong, passed away on November 26 last year at 93. A Briton who hopped from Naval intelligence to radio and television in the former colony, he founded Axis International in the 1960s and brought alone some of his coworkers for the ride. (The name was informal; as government employees, they weren't supposed to have side gigs.) The Axis troupe included Ron Oliphant (who also refined the scripts), Michael Kaye, Barry Haigh, Warren Rooke, Chris Hilton, Nick Kendall, John Wallace, Ian Wilson, Linda Masson, Mandy Cooke, and Angel Chapman.

Listing all their works would be nigh-impossible—so many have fallen through the cracks of history—but you can hear Thomas in The Secret of the Telegian (Police Inspector Kobayashi), Matango (Naoyuki Sakuta), Atragon (Captain Hachiro Jinguji and the High Priest of Mu), Dogora (Dr. Munakata), Gamera vs. Barugon (Kawajiri), Return of Daimajin (Genba Onikojima), Gamera vs. Gyaos (Tatsuemon Kanemaru), Godzilla vs. Gigan (Kubota and Godzilla himself), Godzilla vs. Megalon (Emperor Antonio), and Gamera Super Monster (the policeman and the narrator). If you're a fan of Shaw Brothers films, you've probably heard him in even more than that. He even went in front of the camera for Shaw's The Mighty Peking Man (above), playing a government official. With a resume like that, I can't help but associate his authoritative voice with toku dubs more than just about anyone else; I'd say Rik Thomas (no relation) and Andrea Kwan are the only ones in his weight class. Rest in peace.

Godzilla: Monster and Protectors - All Hail the King! concluded this week, with King Caesar giving Godzilla a helping hand against King Ghidorah, then briefly coming to blows with him as the tension between the kids psychically linked to them comes to a head. The pacing on these comics continues to be wonky, but artist Dan Schoening continues to show true Showa ambition with the fights. It ends on another sequel hook, which it had better get. (Maybe they'll tack on a third subtitle.) IDW's plans for Godzilla are mysterious right now; nothing is on the schedule except the next two Rivals issues. With the film series firing on all cylinders, I couldn't tell you what the holdup is.

Cleopatra Entertainment will be releasing Shin Ultraman to Blu-ray and DVD on June 13, while fellow MVD Entertainment label Epic Pictures will do the same with The Lake. The Shin Blu-ray will include the English dub, but no special features of note—disappointing but not surprising given how the U.S. home video releases for the live-action Attack on Titan films and Shin Godzilla went. The Lake is a Thai/Chinese giant monster flick with some seriously impressive practical effects. I've heard it's terrible aside from that, but whatever.

I feel like there would be such anxiety in the high society in and around Gotham when it comes to Bruce Wayne, his children and them attending galas.

I feel like he would basically never RSVP, but just show up with however many children he feels like. (Or accept everything and decide later).

What’s it’s gonna be? Bruce Wayne alone, flirty and drunk? Bruce Wayne, exhausted, because he has his whole gaggle of kids with him? Bruce Wayne and just some of his kids - if so, which one? The one that constantly climbs on something (tho he is popular with the young attendees and milfs), the 17yo CEO, the silent one (looks kinda scary but harmless), the sassy blonde one that isn’t even his fucking kid, the mystery blood child (very scary but if you have an animal charity he will donate lots of money), the newest no nonsense one or even the one that looks like the one who died and claims to have no relation to the Waynes but only ever hangs out with them.

Or will be bring a random date? Or his butler?

It’s a mystery, but you can bet: if even one Wayne shows up, it will be an interesting evening
